I Tested America's Worst 1-Star Fast Food

I Tested America's Worst 1-Star Fast Food

Joshua Weissman

0:00 I'm gonna come clean.

0:01 I've been giving the most brutal one-star reviews against fast food for years.

0:05 The only reason was because I felt we deserved better food.

0:09 Except everyone's a critic now.

0:10 If you look at the reviews of any fast food restaurant across the USA,

0:14 you'll see insane claims worse than anything I've ever said.

0:17 That's why today I'm putting the absolute worst one-star fast food reviews

0:22 to the test to see if they actually deserve that one star.

0:25 Starting with El Zarape in Denver, Colorado.

0:28 Now, why are we here?

0:29 Supposedly, these are the best burritos in Denver.

0:32 But anybody who said that did not read Jenny L.'s review because she said,

0:36 "Beware what you put in your mouth here.

0:38 They screwed up my food." It's a pun.

0:40 That's a good one.

0:41 That's a good pun, I'll give you that.

0:42 Because look at this image.

0:44 That is scary.

0:45 That's a little scary, but it also kind of is peculiar to me.

0:48 If you read a little further because it says,

0:50 "We heard that they had the best barbacoa in town,

0:52 we went and ordered two pounds for the whole family."

0:55 She says a lot of other things in this review, which I find really funny.

0:58 But ultimately it's about this image,

0:59 which is wild looking to me, but I feel like it's planted...

1:02 Because let's think about this.

1:03 She went in and she ordered, in bulk, barbacoa.

1:06 So that means you get a big plate of barbacoa and a big plate of tortillas.

1:09 And she said that in her review.

1:11 And yet somehow there's a fully assembled taco...

1:13 with a screw in it.

1:14 How did that get there?

1:15 Detective Josh is on the case today and we're going to find that out.

1:18 The next review seems equally hard to comprehend.

1:21 Guillermo H.

1:21 says, "Ordered Bistec a la Mexicana

1:23 and the food looked like they blended the bistec.

1:26 Told the waiter about it, but didn't do anything...

1:29 Not going to this place ever again." And then finally, Nicole T.

1:33 said, "Poor quality food and false advertisement on their website"...

1:37 No clue what the false advertisement is.

1:39 "Server was pretty rude about letting us

1:41 know that they would charge extra for avocados.

1:44 Building is falling apart and very...

1:46 dirty overall...

1:47 And the pancakes tasted refrigerated." Sad face.

1:50 Well, the building is definitely not falling apart.

1:52 Honestly, I actually kind of like it.

1:53 I think it's cute.

1:54 It's actually surprisingly clean.

1:55 Even the rock looks clean.

1:56 Let's just order some food and see how this goes.

1:58 I asked for avocado on the side, they weren't even mean about it.

2:01 And by the way, she did not charge me for it, actually.

2:04 Okay, pancakes.

2:05 They look good.

2:06 The texture of the pancakes are great.

2:08 They're not overcooked.

2:08 They're not dry.

2:09 They're moist.

2:10 They're even a little crispy around the edges.

2:11 Now, do I detect a refrigerated flavor?

2:13 No, dude, these are clearly fresh made.

2:15 I watched him make them.

2:17 No refrigerated taste at all.

2:18 Okay, the bistec.

2:19 Is the bistec blended?

2:20 No, it's just chopped.

2:22 Haha, chopped.

2:22 It's just chopped up.

2:23 The one thing I do think is funny is she asked me if I wanted it medium rare.

2:26 I mean, this is definitely not going to be

2:28 medium rare when you cut it up like this.

2:29 But it's not blended.

2:31 It tastes great.

2:32 The fried eggs are cooked perfectly.

2:33 They're runny, lacy, seasoned really well.

2:35 Spicy.

2:36 It's a delicious plate.

2:37 Honestly, it is fully cooked.

2:38 I will say that.

2:39 But it's a fattier piece of meat.

2:40 So it's not dry.

2:41 Now the real thing, I'm actually scared of this one.

2:43 We got to be really careful here.

2:45 This person found a screw and scrap metal in it,

2:48 supposedly, but I'm questioning whether or not that's true.

2:51 But I mean, look at this photo.

2:53 It's kind of scary...

2:54 opening it up.

2:55 Check the first taco.

2:58 Okay.

2:59 Okay.

2:59 Okay.

3:00 That looks safe.

3:01 Second taco.

3:04 Oh, looks fine.

3:06 But the real test is taking a bite because

3:07 what you won't be able to see is scrap metal.

3:09 If there's scrap metal in this, I'm probably going to go to the hospital, so...

3:11 Cheers.

3:19 I did just bite into something hard.

3:22 It was a bone.

3:24 It was a bone.

3:24 We're good.

3:25 We're good.

3:25 Small bone.

3:25 This barbacoa is...

3:27 delicious.

3:28 This is great.

3:28 What the...

3:29 Nothing else to say.

3:30 I'm ready to leave my review.

3:31 First of all, the lady at the counter, extremely nice.

3:34 The bistec, definitely not blended in a blender.

3:36 Chopped up nicely, fatty and delicious.

3:38 And when it comes to barbacoa, these guys will not screw it up.

3:42 Honestly, four out of five stars.

3:44 Banger.

3:44 I'm shocked.

3:45 I wouldn't have expected that random spot in the middle of Denver.

3:48 You know, that old school burger spot that's hanging by a thread,

3:51 but it might actually suck.

3:52 Could be Dan's Hamburgers in Austin.

3:55 Since 1973.

3:56 I've heard good, I've heard bad.

3:58 In Gary T.'s review, he said,

3:59 "My wife and I have eaten at Dan's for over 30 years, but no more.

4:04 The hamburger buns were cold.

4:05 The meat was tasteless and greasy.

4:07 Tomatoes green, lettuce soggy,

4:09 and cheese was tasteless." Sounds like an Eminem line.

4:12 Yeah.

4:12 Buns were cold, the meat was tasteless and greasy,

4:15 tomatoes green, lettuce soggy.

4:17 Anyway, "The onion rings were cold, tasteless, and limp.

4:20 The two chocolate shakes were melted and tasted like medicine." Medicine?

4:24 I don't know how that's physically possible in a shake.

4:26 It feels like a new low.

4:27 But if I was looking for some sort of word to describe that, Morris P.

4:31 found it.

4:31 "This was truly sub-McDonald's in every way...

4:34 Stale bun, gray tasteless patty, microscopic bits of onion and pickle.

4:39 Just awful.

4:40 If Dan's was ever good, it is absolutely terrible." Now,

4:44 that one kind of cut me a little bit.

4:45 Don't know why.

4:46 Our last review, Jeremy said, "Food was sh*tty,

4:49 and the place smelled like an old wet dog.

4:52 My burger buns was soggy." "My burger buns was

4:55 soggy." "And my fries were cold and oily as hell.

4:59 I think I should have went to Whataburger across the street.

5:02 P.S.

5:03 The root beer was good." At least the root beer was good.

5:06 I'm excited for the root beer.

5:07 Now let's get to work.

5:08 Alright, we're in here.

5:09 It does kind of smell like wet dog,

5:10 but it's a fast food place, so we're waiting for our order.

5:12 I've got the root beer.

5:14 The root beer is good.

5:15 Jeremy, I gotta hand it to you.

5:16 You got good taste in root beer.

5:17 This is a good root beer.

5:18 So they said, sub-McDonald's burger.

5:20 We have it right here.

5:21 First of all, is the bun cold?

5:22 It is cold, except the top bun is slightly warmer, but the bottom bun is...

5:26 It's not as cold as ice, but it's definitely below room temperature.

5:29 The tomatoes do not look green.

5:31 I literally just touched the bun and a piece of it just gooped off.

5:33 But ultimately, is it a sub-McDonald's burger?

5:36 I'm a little confused.

5:37 Some of it is great.

5:38 Some of it is horrible.

5:40 The flavor's not bad.

5:41 It's beefy.

5:41 I appreciate that.

5:42 Pickles are definitely present.

5:43 The beef is not gray.

5:44 It's not tasteless.

5:45 It tastes beefy, and it's seasoned nicely with salt.

5:47 Not sub-McDonald's.

5:48 It's definitely not much better, though.

5:50 It is a little greasy, but I don't mind a greasy hamburger.

5:53 It's not greasy in a bad way.

5:54 We have our onion rings.

5:55 First of all, they said they were greasy, but are they soggy?

5:58 Not at all.

5:59 Great texture, though.

6:01 Nice crunch.

6:01 My biggest gripe.

6:02 Zero salt on this onion.

6:04 I mean, none at all.

6:05 It's kind of killing it because then you just have,

6:07 like, slightly cooked, unseasoned onion.

6:09 Like, who wants that?

6:10 Now a french fry.

6:11 Nice crispness.

6:12 They're not soggy, they're not limp.

6:14 Tastes like a fresh potato.

6:15 But again, no salt.

6:16 I don't know why places do this, guys.

6:18 It's the one thing, the one thing that makes

6:20 or breaks a french fry or an onion ring.

6:22 You put no salt on this.

6:24 This is a raw potato covered in vegetable oil.

6:26 Who the...

6:26 wants that?

6:27 Last but not least, the crescendo to it all.

6:30 The shake...

6:30 Honestly, it's not bad.

6:32 It's not bad at all.

6:33 I've had great shakes, and this is far from great.

6:35 But does it taste like medicine?

6:36 No, course not.

6:37 That's ridiculous.

6:38 That's absurd.

6:38 Let's rate.

6:39 Let me start off by saying, excellent root beer.

6:42 The beef on the burger, surprisingly beefy, surprisingly tasty.

6:45 Although the buns were quite soggy.

6:47 Fries and onion rings could really use some salt, but cooked nicely.

6:50 Overall, if I wanted to gain weight at a fast food joint,

6:52 this would probably not be the place.

6:54 But it's decent.

6:55 2 out of 5 stars.

6:56 If you thought Dan's 1-star reviews were bad,

6:58 they're nothing compared to the 1-star reviews of our next fast food spot.

7:02 There's not a whole lot of fast food grilled chicken places.

7:05 That might just be because places like El Pollo

7:07 Rico have a hard time getting it right, apparently.

7:09 According to Matt F., He said,

7:11 "Apart from the projectile vomiting and diarrhea experienced not

7:15 long after eating here..." Why am I doing this?

7:18 What?!

7:19 Who put this on the list?!

7:21 Oh.

7:22 The chicken was pretty good.

7:24 Rice was pretty plain.

7:25 Beans were disgusting and soupy with chunks of something in there.

7:29 Hot dog, maybe.

7:30 I'd say the worst thing was the green sauce.

7:32 This is where things get scary.

7:34 Jose O.

7:34 Whoa.

7:34 This photo's...

7:35 interesting.

7:36 I thought a lot of these are a lie until I saw this...

7:39 photo.

7:40 Jose O.

7:40 said, "I ordered nachos and bit into a staple.

7:43 I can't believe...

7:44 how irresponsible the workers are.

7:45 This is pathetic." Honestly, that...

7:47 That's a lot less intense of a review for someone

7:50 who just bit into a staple than I would have expected.

7:53 That said, let's taste.

7:54 He actually said the chicken was good.

7:56 And I will say, opening this up, you got a half a grilled chicken with an onion.

7:59 I'm not complaining.

8:00 Honestly...

8:00 Really good.

8:01 I'm not gonna lie.

8:02 Seasoning's nice.

8:02 Flavor is nice.

8:03 Little overcooked, but...

8:04 overall, great chicken.

8:05 All right.

8:06 Rice doesn't look too bland.

8:08 That's great.

8:09 Bland?

8:10 This is seasoned literally perfectly with salt.

8:12 Super flavorful.

8:13 The beans I'm a little scared of.

8:15 They do look soupy, and there are, in fact,

8:17 chunks in there that I cannot identify personally.

8:21 They're not bad, actually.

8:22 The broth that's in here is pretty tasty.

8:24 Overall, the beans are, like, not my most favorite, but they're decent.

8:27 They're very decent...

8:28 Scary statements made about this sauce.

8:30 I'm gonna put it on my taco.

8:31 But I'd say the worst thing was the green sauce.

8:35 It tasted like cardboard and had something rot.

8:41 That's great.

8:41 It's like a creamy jalapeño salsa.

8:44 But hold on a minute.

8:45 What about the nachos?

8:47 Am I going to open this and see staples in them?

8:50 Because I really don't want to go to the hospital after this.

8:52 Please.

8:54 No staples...

8:58 In fact, there were crispy, delicious nachos.

9:02 Wow.

9:02 From the delicious chicken to the vibrant green salsas,

9:05 I'm a fan of El Pollo Rico.

9:06 This is the kind of fast food place

9:08 that makes me want to try everything on the menu...

9:10 Love you.

9:12 Four out of five stars.

9:13 This place is a banger.

9:14 We're in LA, arguably the birthplace of fast food,

9:17 because of places like this...

9:18 Astro Burger.

9:19 Celebrities literally eat here in their tuxedos after award shows.

9:23 But unfortunately, according to Young H, food here tastes like butt.

9:28 Whoa, pause.

9:28 How do you know what that tastes like?

9:30 No, no, really, how do you know?

9:31 Don't recommend this place.

9:32 And it's overpriced for what you're getting.

9:34 McDonald's is better than this place.

9:36 Yowch.

9:36 Emil M.

9:37 says parking sucks.

9:39 All employees are frown faces,

9:41 and even don't call your number even if your food is ready.

9:45 Super slow.

9:46 Cash only...

9:47 What the heck?

9:48 Food tastes tasteless.

9:49 Maybe Roxanne O.

9:50 has something a little bit more, you know, critical thinking, and she said...

9:54 I'm honest, I don't know what, what I'm looking at here.

9:56 The food was horrible.

9:58 Only one cashier.

9:59 She was very rude.

10:00 I bought a fish sandwich, and the fish was bad.

10:02 It was old and had a smell to it that is pretty gross.

10:06 I went to ask if I can exchange it for something else.

10:09 The cashier, she would not let me change my food or get my money back.

10:13 Bad work ethics, bad business.

10:14 I don't...

10:15 Is there a single period or comma in this whole review?

10:18 There actually isn't.

10:19 This is entirely one giant run-on sentence.

10:22 That's amazing.

10:23 But, you know, despite the bad grammar, the photo is compelling.

10:25 And I'm nervous to see if that's what it looks like.

10:28 So let's order.

10:28 Oh, wait hang on.

10:29 There's one more review.

10:30 Rono S.

10:30 says, "I've been going to Astro since the '70s." We got a period here, guys.

10:35 We got a period.

10:36 Their burgers were the best.

10:37 In the last month, I've been twice, and they went from my favorite to the worst.

10:41 They changed the meat.

10:42 It was overcooked both times.

10:43 Tasted nothing like the Astro Burger I know and remember.

10:46 So quality went down, but the price is up.

10:48 I will not be going back to Astro Burger again after 45 years of great burgers.

10:52 And the owner responded to this.

10:54 Wait.

10:54 They said, "Rono, I'm sorry for your bad experiences.

10:57 At Astro's, we cook all of the meats medium

10:59 well unless specified different from the customer." Okay, medium well.

11:02 So not well done.

11:03 I'm going to be looking for that.

11:04 Our quality meats is choice quality, the best we can buy.

11:08 Choice is actually the worst you can buy, Andrew.

11:10 I'm sorry to tell you that, but it's literally like,

11:12 as close to the bottom of the barrel as you can get.

11:14 As for pricing, it's beyond our control,

11:16 as everything has gone up due to many factors.

11:18 That's fair.

11:19 That's one of the hard things about running a restaurant business.

11:20 I can't argue with Andrew there.

11:22 But, hey, look, there's only one way to find out.

11:24 Before we go in, here's the parking situation.

11:26 Honestly, this is really not bad for LA.

11:28 They've got a solid lot and it's open for the most part.

11:30 Hi, how are you?

11:31 I'm good.

11:32 How are you doing?

11:32 Good.

11:33 Let's see.

11:33 Can I do a fish sandwich?

11:35 Okay.

11:36 I'll also do just a cheeseburger.

11:37 And that's it.

11:38 Alright.

11:39 Are you Joshua Weissman?

11:40 Yeah.

11:41 How are you, man?

11:41 Nice to meet you.

11:42 Yeah.

11:42 Pleasure.

11:42 What's your name?

11:43 Zach.

11:44 Zach.

11:44 Nice to meet you, Zach.

11:45 Pleasure.

11:45 Pleasure.

11:46 All right, now we wait.

11:47 So the workers.

11:48 50/50, right.

11:49 The lady at the cashier, I will say she did look actually a little sad.

11:52 You know, I don't blame her for that.

11:53 Life is hard.

11:54 But she was definitely not giving me a vibe.

11:56 Now, on the other hand,

11:57 the fry cook who just started working there, super nice guy, really sweet.

12:00 He said hello, it was nice.

12:01 It's split.

12:01 I'll give it to them.

12:02 Cause it is the middle of the day.

12:03 I'll give it to them.

12:04 Okay, here we go.

12:05 The burger, it actually looks nice.

12:06 Like it's got a good grill mark on it...

12:08 The beef has no salt on it at all.

12:10 That said, it does taste beefy and charred.

12:12 There's no salt on the patty.

12:14 I will say though, our boy who happens

12:16 to be the owner said these are cooked medium-well.

12:18 No, this is well-done and it's definitely choice beef.

12:20 That said, though, it's actually not bad.

12:22 This reminds me of those, like,

12:24 burgers that you have at a mid hotel by the pool.

12:26 I'm not hating it.

12:27 Out of all the fast-food burgers I've had,

12:28 this is definitely not at the bottom of the list.

12:30 But I'll save my rating to the end.

12:31 Let's experience this fish sandwich.

12:35 Okay.

12:38 Okay.

12:40 Okay.

12:42 Okay.

12:43 Oh.

12:45 Oh yeah, it looks fine.

12:46 Actually, I'm a lot less scared now that I've seen it.

12:49 This could be its moment.

12:51 Honestly, not bad.

12:52 The fish is really crispy and nice.

12:54 It's not overcooked.

12:55 It's nice and moist.

12:56 It certainly doesn't look like the photo.

12:58 Any of the complaints that that lady had was maybe a little unwarranted.

13:01 But I mean, you can see here.

13:02 I mean, looks good...

13:03 Let's get our rating going.

13:04 Cashier and the cook were nice.

13:06 The burger was definitely well-done, but had a good char flavor.

13:10 Maybe use more salt.

13:12 Also, fish was not gross.

13:13 3 out of 5 stars.

13:15 On to the next...

13:16 This is a legendary place to people who live

13:18 in Austin and even people visiting Austin: Torchy's Tacos.

13:22 And Hans has something to say.

13:23 "I waited 14 minutes for a single chicken fajita taco.

13:27 The taco I had was adequate and nothing special.

13:30 I honestly would have rather gotten a chicken soft taco at Taco Bell.

13:33 Oh, lastly, their sound system was playing U2's 'In the Name of Love' song,

13:37 which has been terrible for its 30-plus years

13:40 of existence." I could not leave quickly enough.

13:42 There's a lot to test here.

13:44 Now, Amanda P.

13:44 seems to think that this location is the problem...

13:47 "Here's the thing.

13:48 Don't go to the Spicewood location." "The Crossroads tasted burnt, like vomit.

13:53 The Green Chili Pork was nowhere near a good taco.

13:55 Is this what Austinites have become?" Even the breakfast tacos,

13:59 something you cannot mess up in Austin, Texas, gave Dan F.

14:02 a true identity crisis...

14:04 "My taco was a brick of yellowish egg-like mass

14:08 with a half-centimeter thin by one-centimeter wide wedge of avocado.

14:12 If there was pico mixed in there, I sure couldn't tell.

14:16 Nor was anything crisp about this taco either." "Not the corn tortilla bits.

14:20 They were mush." It's pretty funny, honestly...

14:22 Not going to lie.

14:23 Mark says, "Terrible house fly problem...

14:25 Avoid Trailer Park as well as Brushfire, Republican.

14:29 Tipsy Chick was okay.

14:30 Flour tortillas were weak, never coming back.

14:33 But if I did, I'd bring my own fly swatters." "That's fly swatters, plural,

14:37 because they were thicker than honey." I

14:40 don't know what that last sentence means, to be honest with you.

14:42 I guess, like, there's a lot of them.

14:43 If there was going to be a wait, this would be where it would happen.

14:46 Might as well start the timer now.

14:47 I'll do the timer for before.

14:49 Before we order and after we order.

14:50 The test begins now.

14:51 Well, it looks like everybody placed their order.

14:53 I'm not even joking.

14:54 That was 42 seconds.

14:55 And it's our turn to order.

14:58 Hi...

14:58 She's laughing.

14:59 Okay.

15:00 She was very nice.

15:01 We've ordered.

15:02 Now we begin.

15:03 How long will it take for us to get our order?

15:05 All right, it's our turn.

15:06 Four minutes in.

15:07 So we're at 4 minutes and 45 seconds total.

15:09 Their tip jar has two screwdrivers in it.

15:11 Hi.

15:12 How are you?

15:13 Good.

15:13 How are you?

15:14 Done?

15:14 Okay, not bad.

15:15 Six minutes.

15:16 We have a huge order, too.

15:18 Like, big...

15:19 And that took six minutes.

15:21 I'm not...

15:21 I'm not mad.

15:22 Okay, let's eat.

15:23 There's no U2 playing.

15:24 I'm bummed, actually.

15:25 That might lower my rating.

15:26 Let's start with what to avoid.

15:28 So this is the Trailer Park.

15:30 That's pretty good.

15:32 This is the Republican.

15:34 Okay.

15:34 And then the Brushfire.

15:36 Good.

15:37 I wouldn't avoid any of those.

15:38 In fact, I would order all of them.

15:41 These flies are going to piss me off.

15:43 The Crossroads...

15:43 Jesus.

15:44 Burnt and, like, vomit?

15:45 I mean, it smells...

15:46 delicious.

15:47 I mean, listen, it's far from Mexican food, but it's delicious.

15:51 It's like smoky brisket, avocado, cheese, pickled jalapeño.

15:54 I don't know what they mean by burnt, though.

15:56 I mean, like, it's smoky.

15:57 Green Chili Pork.

15:57 Nowhere near a good...

15:58 I mean, it looks like a good taco.

16:00 This is the most traditional-looking taco on the list.

16:01 I mean, look at it.

16:02 You got onion, cilantro, and lime.

16:03 It doesn't get more traditional than that.

16:05 And on a corn tortilla.

16:06 Question is, does it taste any good?

16:08 It's not dry.

16:09 It's juicy.

16:09 It's seasoned perfectly with salt.

16:11 It's porky.

16:12 It's delicious.

16:12 Zero complaints.

16:13 That was the most traditional tasting taco I've had so far.

16:16 That is definitely an egg mass.

16:17 I will be honest.

16:18 Also, the stem of the avocado is on there.

16:20 I don't know if you can see that.

16:22 I'm gonna take that off...

16:23 Okay, let's just do this.

16:24 Not cold, first of all.

16:25 And also, the chips are surprisingly crispy, but it tastes of nothing.

16:29 It just tastes like pure egg with no salt.

16:30 Like, who wants that?

16:31 But it wasn't, like, gross, though.

16:33 It just was just kind of mid.

16:34 Okay.

16:34 The Tipsy Chick.

16:35 Now this supposedly was okay.

16:37 Honestly, that was the most boring one I had in the entire list.

16:40 I'm not even joking.

16:41 Least flavorful.

16:42 The chicken's under-seasoned.

16:44 It's fine.

16:44 This person has terrible taste.

16:46 That's the worst one, easily.

16:47 Time for Josh's review.

16:49 "I really wish these guys played U2 more on the radio.

16:52 Still haven't heard it yet, but better yet, I'll be honest.

16:55 These tacos are far from anything traditional, but they are delicious.

16:58 I mean, come on.

16:59 Fried chicken in a tortilla?

17:00 Who's not gonna like that?

17:01 Despite its lack of traditionality,

17:03 you have some tasty food and a quick and easy line to boot.

17:07 4 out of 5 stars.

17:08 Torchy's was surprisingly good,

17:10 but I can't say that it'll be the same thing for the next spot: Crown Burgers.

17:15 Now, despite the excessive signage,

17:17 they're surprisingly more known for their gyros.

17:19 I...

17:20 What?

17:20 And the vibes?

17:21 Apparently.

17:22 Scrolling through, Dylan D.

17:23 is saying something nice.

17:25 Actually, "It brings you back to your childhood." I don't

17:27 know what that means for our first review because River G.

17:30 said, "Called this restaurant and the person who answered the phone told

17:33 me to go have sex with myself." There's no way that's real.

17:37 I'm nervous for this.

17:39 Hi, quick question.

17:41 What time do you guys close today?

17:42 We're closed at seven today.

17:44 Seven.

17:44 Okay, great.

17:45 Awesome.

17:45 Thank you for that.

17:46 Yeah, you're welcome.

17:46 Bye.

17:46 Appreciate you.

17:47 Bye.

17:47 Bye.

17:48 Didn't tell me to do anything to myself.

17:49 It was very straight to the point.

17:51 That said, Steve M.

17:52 came out guns blazing: "It took 20 minutes of waiting in a hot,

17:56 stuffy restaurant for one of the most pathetic excuses

17:59 for a gyro I have ever had." "And overloaded

18:01 with tons of feta to make up for the tiny bit of meat they put on it.

18:05 You could literally count the pieces of meat on it.

18:08 Four...

18:08 in total...

18:08 Just pathetic." Well, we're here.

18:10 Let's test it.

18:11 Is this gyro pathetic?

18:12 There is only four pieces of meat in here.

18:14 I'll be honest, looking back at that review, this is four.

18:16 But it's four pieces of meat the long way.

18:19 It seems like enough meat...

18:20 It's fine.

18:21 The meat is definitely not fresh, but it's seasoned nicely.

18:24 It's got good fattiness, even the pita is nice and warm.

18:26 The veg is fresh.

18:27 Pathetic is a strong word.

18:28 Not bad.

18:29 Dear Crown Burgers, despite your confusing menu, the gyro is pretty decent.

18:33 Nicely seasoned, full of fresh veg.

18:35 But it's nowhere near king status.

18:37 But hey, love ya.

18:38 Three stars.

18:39 On to the next...

18:40 This one's a hate it or love it burger spot.

18:42 This place doesn't have a lot of locations, but it's called Hat Creek.

18:45 And, well, this first review might explain why

18:48 they are not ready for a big operation.

18:50 Supposedly, according to Garry C.: "Worst food ever...

18:54 paper has more flavor.

18:55 Parking?" "Better walk there.

18:58 Avoid this restaurant like the plague...

19:01 Unless you like the plague, then welcome home." Apparently Apple J.

19:04 did not have much more luck in the drive-through.

19:07 "$6 for a burger and $1 for an unmelted American cheese.

19:11 Mediocrity at its worst.

19:12 Let's not forget the sensitive staff who was offended because

19:16 of yelling when I'm going through drive thru and on a call...

19:20 By the way, in English, cheeseburger implies cheese." Wait, but I'm confused.

19:25 You paid $1 for unmelted American cheese, but they didn't give you cheese?

19:29 Or they did...

19:29 Now, Walter F.

19:30 said: "Hat Creek brought tears to my eyes when I tasted

19:33 their bitter burger." "I hated how they put red dust on their fries.

19:37 They have good milkshakes.

19:39 If you're three years old with a sweet tooth.

19:41 I give this a 0 out of 10." "I do not recommend." Well, Walter,

19:44 you gave it a one out of five, so I don't know what the...

19:47 if you're saying...

19:48 I guess I'll pretend to talk loudly on the phone and we'll see what happens.

19:51 I'm nervous.

19:52 Yeah, John, I'm just not gonna be there, John.

19:54 I'm just not.

19:55 I don't have time to.

19:57 Oh, hi.

19:57 Let me get a Big Hat with cheese.

20:01 Okay would you like the combo sir?

20:02 Yes, please.

20:03 What's your favorite milkshake?..

20:04 No, John, you're not getting a milkshake.

20:07 Sorry.

20:07 Which one?

20:08 All right, sure, I'll try it.

20:09 Yeah, I got.

20:10 I gotta go.

20:11 I gotta go.

20:11 All right.

20:12 Bye.

20:12 Hi sir.

20:13 Hi.

20:14 Sorry.

20:14 How are you?

20:15 My phone was on.

20:15 You could see my phone screen on that.

20:16 She probably knew I was faking that call.

20:20 But she didn't mind, though.

20:21 She thought it was funny...

20:23 Hat Creek, the milkshake.

20:24 It's actually delicious.

20:26 This was much better than the milkshake that we had at Dan's.

20:29 It's sweet, but I mean, it's literally blended ice cream.

20:31 What do you expect out of a milkshake?

20:33 The fries, he didn't like, the red dust.

20:35 I Love these crispy shoestring fries the way they should be,

20:39 seasoned beautifully with salt.

20:41 Love the spice on it.

20:42 Now I will say this burger doesn't look perfect,

20:44 but really my main concern is that this at least tastes better than paper.

20:49 I gotta be honest with you guys, it's actually pretty good.

20:52 The seasoning is nice.

20:54 This is like the first time I've encountered

20:55 a burger I'm getting a little flecks of fresh pepper.

20:57 It's juicy, it's not dry at all, it's cheesy.

21:00 The pickles are like refreshing and snappy.

21:02 You saw those.

21:03 I mean, those are some nice looking pickles.

21:03 And it's a traditional potato bun.

21:05 So you have that nice sort of soft, fluffy, almost creamy potato bun.

21:08 I don't know if you could tell when you saw this, but there

21:11 is in fact cheese in there and it is in fact melted.

21:13 This is one of the better burger spots we've

21:14 been to, so I guess I'll give my rating.

21:16 Hat Creek.

21:17 I'm genuinely confused why you have such a low rating.

21:19 But the one thing I'm not concerned about is the food.

21:22 Great fries, tasty milkshakes,

21:24 and a burger that comes with plenty of melted American cheese.

21:27 4 out of 5 stars...

21:28 Hat Creek's rep is redeemed.

21:30 But can it happen again at our final spot?

21:33 This place is legendary amongst the locals,

21:36 but unfortunately their new ownership is getting some brutal reviews...

21:41 We're at none other than El Huero...

21:43 Max says...

21:44 "consistently terrible or mediocre food combined with absurd waits.

21:48 I got a burrito with the worst carne asada I've ever had,

21:52 which hemorrhaged its flavorless insides all over my hand." "And each time I go,

21:57 I read the reviews and maybe think that I'm just crazy.

22:00 I've been here five times." First of all, Max,

22:03 just based off the descriptor, why did you go back five times?

22:06 Like you ever heard: once, shame on you, two times, shame on me...

22:09 five times?

22:10 Who's the shame on, your mom?

22:11 But here's what's more troubling.

22:13 This next one has a photo.

22:15 Areiona H.

22:15 says: "ordered three tacos in the drive thru...

22:18 drive across the street.

22:20 So I eat the first taco and as I take a bite

22:24 of the second taco there an entire toothpick inside the tacos...

22:28 covered in cheese and sour cream...

22:31 I immediately spit the food out my mouth and scream

22:35 to my fiance." "We go back to the window,

22:38 I show the workers and he immediately says,

22:41 'let me show you the cool.' And I kid you not,

22:44 he has a toothpick in his mouth." Whoa...

22:47 So let's see if they have toothpicks in their tacos.

22:49 I'm actually kind of scared.

22:50 If he has a toothpick in his mouth, I'm going to be mortified...

22:53 Let's eat.

22:54 Hi, can I do a carne asada burrito?

22:56 Okay.

22:57 Can I also do the carnitas tacos?

22:59 Okay.

22:59 Anything else for you?

23:00 That's it.

23:00 There was no toothpick, guys.

23:02 They did not have a toothpick in the mouth.

23:04 We're good so far, but is there a toothpick in the tacos?

23:06 It took seven minutes and 30 seconds to get our food,

23:09 which isn't McDonald's fast.

23:10 But I'm not mad.

23:11 I'm still thinking about Max's image of how he was holding his burrito and...

23:15 well, we're good.

23:16 We're good, guys.

23:17 I was scared.

23:18 Honestly, it's pretty good.

23:20 It's not like the greatest burrito I've ever had, but, like, is Max crazy?

23:23 Yeah, I think you might be.

23:24 Actually, I'm pretty delighted.

23:25 I was worried coming in.

23:26 So far, so good.

23:27 One more thing to test.

23:28 I'm a little nervous.

23:29 What could be in this?..

23:31 She did say an entire toothpick covered in cheese and sour cream.

23:47 This is probably the most boring bite.

23:50 Turns out, no toothpick.

23:51 We survived.

23:52 Time for the rating.

23:53 I'm very thankful they don't put toothpicks in their tacos.

23:56 Service was great with a smile.

23:57 Honestly, food was better than expected.

23:59 The burrito was truly not horrible.

24:02 3 out of 5 stars.

24:03 Don't get me wrong.

24:04 As you know, I'm very opinionated about my eating,

24:06 but a lot of these reviews seem like

24:08 they were downright trying to hurt the restaurants,

24:10 which is not the right thing to do.

24:12 Sure, some reviews were true, but most...

24:13 were not.

24:14 So the next time you go to a restaurant, don't always trust the reviews.

24:17 And more importantly, if you plan on leaving one,

24:20 make sure it's at least, I don't know, accurate.

24:22 Because remember, just being annoyed at something might last five minutes,

24:26 but reviews can last forever.

24:27 Love ya.
