0:10 I have to tell everybody this, because a couple weeks ago, we were off.

0:13 We were on vacation.

0:15 I'm at this beautiful vacation spot with my family.

0:17 -Unplanned.

0:18 I'm on the beach.

0:19 And who comes up around the corner?

0:21 I go, "Is that— It's Ronnie Wood." And you're like,

0:24 "Hi, bud!" And I go, "Wait, am I at, like,

0:26 a fantasy camp or something?" I'm like, "What's going on, bud?" I mean,

0:29 you're a rock— I love you so much.

0:31 I'm like, "Is this, like, a treat?" It was like a dream.

0:34 We hung out.

0:35 You were there with your beautiful family and Sally and the twins.

0:39 And you go, "Do you want to hear the record?

0:41 I got the new album." I go, "Are you kidding me?

0:44 You're going to play me the album?" -I said,

0:46 "3:00 tomorrow afternoon, in the studio, full blast." -Yes!

0:50 We listened to the whole Rolling Stones album together.

0:53 We have a video.

0:57 -Come on, Ronnie.

0:59 Guitar solo] -Yeah, come on, Ronnie!

1:03 [As Jagger] Come on, Ronnie!

1:04 Come on, Ronnie!

1:05 -And he went further and further through the ceiling.

1:09 -I was rocking out so hard.

1:11 -He went up through the ceiling.

1:12 Each song got higher and higher.

1:14 -Yes, I was dancing around.

1:15 -Finally disappeared.

1:16 -I loved it so much.

1:17 There's so many great jams on this.

1:19 And I listened to that.

1:21 That was "Back in Your Life," right?

1:22 -Yeah.

1:23 -And your solo is fantastic.

1:25 You were telling me that you played for like—

1:27 Did you play for— -Nine minutes it was, yeah.

1:29 -A nine-minute guitar solo.

1:30 -Yeah.

1:30 And then I came in—[ Cheers and applause] -Who else— -We cut it down to 4 or 5.

1:36 -Yeah, you cut it down, you cut it down, but you played for nine minutes.

1:38 You're just in the zone.

1:40 -I'll tell you what— I was so moved that day and disappointed and sad.

1:45 And I had so much feeling because Brian Wilson died that day.

1:51 Yeah.

1:51 I'll never forget.

1:52 And that week, Sly Stone died, too.

1:54 And I thought, "Oh, no,

1:56 it's so sad." And it come out through my guitar, the feeling, you know?

2:01 And— -You did it.

2:03 -Just one take.

2:04 And I just said, "I didn't do that." The guitar played itself.

2:08 -Yeah.

2:08 Do you—[ Cheers and applause] It felt that way.

2:12 It felt that way.

2:13 It's just magic.

2:14 Do you remember getting your first guitar and where were

2:18 you and where did you first try to play or...

2:21 -Yeah.

2:21 Well, when I was 5 or 6,

2:25 I had— My brothers were 8 and 10 years older than me, you see?

2:29 And they were both musicians and they're both artists.

2:33 So if they played, I would play.

2:35 And if they painted, I would paint.

2:37 And a friend of theirs gave me his acoustic guitar to borrow.

2:42 And then he got called up to the Army and took it back.

2:45 And I was so disappointed.

2:47 So my brothers got me one on the plan.

2:49 And that's where I started.

2:51 -And then you also played bass for a while.

2:54 -Well, you know, after playing guitar with The Birds,

2:57 then I met Jeff Beck on tour,

3:00 and he— We said, you know, "One of these days, we'll get together." So,

3:05 you know, my group, The Birds, split up, he left The Yardbirds,

3:09 and I rang him up and I said,

3:11 "What are we gonna do?" He said, "Come on, let's get together.

3:14 I got this vocalist.

3:16 I don't know if you know him.

3:18 His name is Rod Stewart." And I said, "Oh, Rod." I met him.

3:23 So, he said, "Would you mind playing bass?" Jeff said,

3:26 "Would you mind?" I said, "No.

3:28 I love a challenge.

3:29 Let's go." Boom!

3:29 So that was it.

3:31 And then I got a different aspect of playing the guitar

3:34 when I went back on the guitar with The Faces.

3:36 -And you bought a bass guitar or...

3:39 -Yeah, well, I had no money,

3:41 so I had to borrow it during rehearsals in Chinatown, in Soho in London.

3:46 And I went round to Selmer and I said, "Could I have that jazz bass?

3:52 Could I borrow it?" You know.

3:53 And they said, "Yeah." -They let you borrow it.

3:55 -Yeah.

3:56 "You'll have to get your parents to sign the form,

3:58 you know, if you like it." And I said,

4:00 "Well--" They said, "Promise to bring it back

4:02 this afternoon." So later on, I— Five years later,

4:06 I went back to the store and said,

4:10 "Do you remember that jazz bass that went missing?" And they went,

4:13 "Yes, we do." And I said, "It was me,

4:16 and I've come to pay you."[ Laughter] -He's allowed to steal.

4:21 Come on.

4:22 It's Ronnie Wood.

4:24 But you're actually— For the first time,

4:27 this summer, you're doing your first solo show.

4:30 First in 16 years.

4:31 This is amazing.

4:32 You announced you're doing solo shows, and it's sold out.

4:35 It's beyond belief.

4:36 -It's nice.

4:36 Hey, guys, you've got to keep your chops together, right?

4:39 -Yeah.

4:39 You have to.

4:40 -Alright.

4:40 You have to.

4:41 -So, you know, in between times when I'm not painting, I'm playing.

4:45 So I've got to keep— I've got— I

4:48 rustled up some original musicians that I played with.

4:51 Andy Newmark, my first drummer on my first solo

4:53 album— he played with Sly and the Family Stone.

4:56 And he was incredible.

4:58 We had Willie Weeks from, Aretha, you know?

5:01 And those two together were incredible, bass and drums.

5:05 -You've played with everybody.

5:07 -Yeah.

5:08 -You're going to meet up with Van Morrison.

5:10 You're meeting up with Eric Clapton, your buddy.

5:12 -Yeah.

5:12 I'm going to have Rhonda in my band, from Jeff Beck.

5:14 -Yeah.

5:15 -Come on, bud.

5:16 -This is what— I was going to ask you, though,

5:18 when you— Because we had you on the show before,

5:20 and we were talking about your art.

5:22 And, by the way, you're an amazing artist.

5:24 And you're having a show in Germany, right?

5:27 You're having a big show?

5:29 -Big museum show.

5:35 I just want to show you some of Ronnie's artwork, just so you understand,

5:38 because we all know your guitar playing,

5:40 that artwork, but your painting is stunning.

5:50 But, also, you do— You do the band, as well.

6:20 -Yes, you are, right?

6:21 -Yeah.

6:22 -I knew I got it right.

6:23 -It's inspirational to do— You know, I'm lucky enough to do a solo thing

6:28 with the painting and then be part of a band,

6:30 you know, be part of a group to express musically.

6:34 It's such a gift, you know, to be able to do both.

6:37 -Yeah.

6:37 I can't even tell you how much I love the album.

6:39 I already told you.

6:41 I would say "Back in Your Life" was one of my jams.

6:43 I like "Rough and Twisted." You do a cover of Amy Winehouse.

6:48 I don't know if anyone knows that you guys

6:50 are— "You Know I'm No Good." Quest, this jam is.
