TechJoyce: From DIY Builds to Building for Millions | It Starts with Windows

Windows

0:00 Hey, guys Windows is gonna interview me for four minutes straight,

0:03 and they're going to ask me about my life

0:05 so you guys can go ahead and watch this.

0:07 Have you ever thought about making tech content?

0:10 It's actually way easier than you think.

0:12 Hi, this is TechJoyce.

0:14 I started my journey on Windows.

0:16 I am a content creator.

0:17 I make tech, engineering, car and DIY content.

0:21 I was in high school.

0:22 I started doing gaming, I did a bit of blogging,

0:25 and then over the summer of 2022, I was like,

0:28 I want to try tech because I was just scrolling TikTok and I saw

0:30 some people my age that were doing really well in tech and I was like,

0:33 I could probably do that.

0:33 So at the time, I had my Windows 10 gaming PC and I use that to edit everything.

0:38 So I had all the tools I needed to start and I was like,

0:41 okay, let me just start by doing some tech reviews.

0:43 I did keyboard reviews, monitor reviews, mouse reviews,

0:46 and my first few videos blew up because people thought I was like,

0:50 really quirky and weird and I was like a 15 year old girl,

0:52 which is new in the tech space.

0:53 Most people were like guys.

0:54 And then a few months later, I decided to do my first tech invention.

0:58 I did a brother squirter device.

1:00 Essentially, it would recognize my brother's face,

1:02 and then it would use a water gun to squirt him,

1:04 and that got like 7 million views.

1:06 So 7 million views.

1:07 I was like, I'm famous, I'm actually viral, I'm famous,

1:10 and then shortly after I got my first brand deal,

1:11 and that's when I was like, okay, let me lock in and do this full time.

1:14 So the Somali was actually a school project, but I made it into a video,

1:18 and I thought of the idea when my grandma

1:20 was bedridden and she couldn't reach the light.

1:22 So I was like, you know what?

1:23 Let me just make something like funny, but actually practical.

1:26 People liked it because I said my crusty grandma,

1:28 and then the other half liked it because it was like,

1:31 oh, this is such a cool project, and a girl's doing it.

1:32 So I was like, well, this is new.

1:34 I try to have a good balance between funny

1:36 and educational because I want to keep my audience engaged,

1:38 but I also want to teach people something new and inspire people.

1:41 At one point in my life,

1:43 I was also the person behind the screen watching someone.

1:45 So I want to make people feel the same way I did as a kid.

1:48 The dumbest thing I've ever built is my car-seat-shocker.

1:51 The video premise was my brother kept blocking my view when I was driving,

1:54 so whenever his head was like close enough to a certain part of the car,

1:58 it would shock the seat.

1:59 Working with my brother is fun.

2:01 I mean, I just shove a camera in his face and force him

2:03 to say some lines and he has to listen because I'm a sister.

2:06 After that point, I started realizing like, oh,

2:09 I should try something new because I've been

2:11 doing these inventions for like over a year now.

2:14 And that's when I started getting into like car content.

2:16 So behind me is my setup.

2:19 It's messy but organized in my head, if you ask me.

2:21 Oh, where where are the metric wrenches?

2:23 I'll be like, right there,

2:24 my camera here I have my tire because I just took it off.

2:27 I'm fixing something on the car.

2:28 There's always something new to do, like that is never ending.

2:31 My favorite part is definitely near the end, where everything's coming together,

2:35 and then you get to see your project fully fleshed out,

2:39 working, beautiful, pretty.

2:41 Just.

2:42 Oh.

2:43 I started my journey all my dad's Windows 7 PC,

2:45 and that's where I got introduced to YouTube.

2:47 That really sparked my desire to create content myself.

2:50 If I had to describe Windows in five words, it would be smart, beautiful, funny,

2:56 charismatic, sexy, intelligent, inspiring, efficient, classy.

3:03 And here we have my Windows editing PC.

3:05 And this is where the real magic happens.

3:07 This is where I take my footage, cut it up,

3:09 and turn it into a masterpiece to give it to you guys.

3:11 When I'm in my zone, I always have Microsoft Word on the side,

3:14 and this is where I read my script,

3:16 do my voiceovers, and write down some notes I have.

3:19 And then I have Excel.

3:20 This is where I do my budgeting,

3:22 my spreadsheets, anything related to accounting, bookkeeping,

3:25 everything is very easy and concise for me to use, and it's all in one place.

3:30 So I have two setups right now and they're both Windows PCs.

3:33 And realistically, who's gaming on any other operating system?

3:36 Boom, let's frickin go!

3:38 My gaming setup and my editing setup are actually identical,

3:42 and I built them both myself.

3:44 This is my gaming setup as you can see, this is where I film,

3:47 this is where I stream, and this is where the magic happens.

3:50 The PC has the same specs as my editing room.

3:52 PC is running 32 gigs of RAM, a 4080,

3:55 a 13700K, and of course Windows operating systems.

4:00 I'm traveling a lot,

4:01 so the Surface Laptop has helped me work on the go is light,

4:05 portable, fast, cool.

4:06 Awesome.

4:07 Sexy.

4:08 Well, so I started with a $500 Windows laptop and that's

4:13 where I learned to edit from where I learned to make thumbnails.

4:16 And a lot of you guys don't realize,

4:18 like, everything is at the tip of your fingers.

4:20 If you have a phone, if you have an old laptop, you can do anything.

4:23 Get a Windows laptop!

4:25 That's the clip!
