1:45 I will continue to automatically send them to you every single Friday.

1:50 So, you just sign up once and I will

1:52 continue to send you my free worksheets every week.

1:55 How cool.

1:56 All right, so should we get started?

1:58 Let's put on our food helmets.

2:00 Hope you're not hungry because there's a lot of food in here.

2:03 So, what I'm going to do is simply take out each item that I purchased.

2:08 Maybe I'll say a little something about it if there's something to be said.

2:11 Maybe not.

2:12 And I will set them on the table.

2:14 There are so many things.

2:16 Are you ready?

2:16 [laughter] Um, some of them are not all packaged together.

2:20 So, this is not all the fruit.

2:23 This is not all the pantry supplies,

2:26 but we'll just go with the flow and see what we got here.

2:29 And hopefully after this video,

2:31 my family will come back inside and help me to put everything away.

2:35 Isn't that the dream?

2:36 So, when I do a big grocery shop like this, this is a lot of food.

2:41 Usually, it's for one month.

2:42 I try to purchase almost everything we need for an entire month.

2:46 Now, each week I do need to purchase a few new things like fresh things,

2:50 some extra bananas, some extra greens, maybe some milk, things like that.

2:55 But mostly all of the food we need for our family of five,

2:59 two adults, an 8-year-old, a 5-year-old, and a 2-year-old is all of this.

3:05 There might be a few things we're missing,

3:06 but in general, that's why it's a lot of food.

3:08 So, let's get started.

3:10 I bought us some apples.

3:12 These are organic Pink Lady apples.

3:17 I got us a big thing of mandarin oranges.

3:20 You can also call these tangerines.

3:22 I know they're slightly different, but usually we use the same word.

3:25 I love these in the winter.

3:29 We bought one Asian pair.

3:31 This is like $2.50 for one Asian pair.

3:35 But whenever I go to the grocery store,

3:37 I let my kids each choose one little thing

3:40 that they want to purchase um if it's under $5.

3:44 And this is what my two-year-old daughter chose.

3:47 She even already took a bite out of it, [laughter] so we'll eat that later.

3:52 I have some olive oil for those of you from Italy.

3:55 It says product of Italy.

3:58 Um 100% Italian President's Reserve extravirgin olive oil, cold pressed.

4:03 All right.

4:04 Well, it says it's from It says product of Italy.

4:08 Olives are grown and harvested in Italy.

4:10 Okay.

4:11 So, you can get a lot cheaper versions of olive oil in the US,

4:14 but at the grocery store that I went to, which is Trader Joe's,

4:18 I've talked about that grocery store on this channel

4:20 a lot because if you come to the US,

4:22 it's a great place to go to have a little quick conversation with someone.

4:25 They are very friendly there.

4:27 Um, that was the biggest size that they offered.

4:30 All right, I got some peeled tomatoes in a can.

4:35 Uh, Theo, my oldest son, wanted to get this lightly smoked muscles just for fun.

4:41 I got some granola bars here.

4:44 We have We like to buy lots of nuts and dried fruit because

4:48 we eat that as a snack instead of potato chips or something unhealthy.

4:52 So, we go through a lot of nuts.

4:54 You will see that in the next bag.

4:56 Here I have some raisins.

4:58 Raisins are dried grapes.

5:01 I have some walnuts.

5:05 Some more walnuts.

5:09 and a little thing of orzo pasta.

5:12 Lots more pasta to come.

5:16 All right, here we have lots of trail mix items.

5:20 We call it trail mix just because trail mix means nuts and fruit usually,

5:25 but we like to make it ourselves.

5:27 Uh this these are some almonds.

5:30 They're raw almonds.

5:31 I like them like this because they don't taste as oily or salty.

5:34 So there's no salt.

5:35 They're not cooked.

5:36 It's just raw almonds.

5:40 Brazil nuts.

5:41 These are the most expensive ones.

5:43 I think this bag is $10, but this bag of walnuts is like $5 maybe.

5:50 But Brazil nuts are really hard [laughter] to open.

5:53 It's very labor intensive.

5:55 Um, so this small bag is very expensive, but they're really healthy for you.

5:59 Um, I heard there's a couple minerals you

6:02 need in order to help your immune system especially.

6:06 And selenium, I'm not a doctor.

6:09 This is just what I read.

6:10 Selenium is one of the most important um immune boosting minerals.

6:14 And Brazil nuts have it a lot.

6:17 So, if you eat like two or three Brazil nuts every day,

6:20 which we usually do, um it's really good for your immune system.

6:24 But don't eat too many cuz if you eat eight every day, you can overdose.

6:27 Very strange.

6:28 But all right, there we go.

6:30 Uh, we have pistachios.

6:32 My kids love to eat pistachios, especially in the shell.

6:35 It's a fun activity.

6:37 Um, roasted and unsalted sunflower seeds.

6:41 All right, this is almost the end of our trail mix.

6:46 The last thing for our trail mix, I think, are these cashews.

6:50 Now, vegans, we are not vegan,

6:52 but vegans or vegetarians like to make creamy sauces for pasta out of cashews,

6:58 especially these types of raw whole cashews.

7:02 I just like to eat them.

7:04 I think it's a good snack.

7:05 Um, all right.

7:06 Now, we have our pasta sauce.

7:08 This is Italian tomato basil pasta sauce.

7:11 Whole peeled tomatoes.

7:12 I'm kind of picky about tomato sauce.

7:15 I think because in the US there's a lot of very

7:17 low quality sugary tomato sauces and this is really good.

7:22 But this whole jar is like $4.50 maybe $4.

7:28 I think that's kind of expensive for pasta sauce.

7:31 If you look at all the pasta sauces mostly they're like $1, $2.

7:36 So this is pretty expensive for pasta sauce, but it's so good.

7:39 So, I will always choose something like that if I can afford it.

7:44 I got three of those for the whole month.

7:47 We have some cans of tuna.

7:50 This is a nice I don't know what to eat for dinner kind of meal.

7:53 Sometimes we make tuna melt sandwiches,

7:56 which is toast and tuna and some cheddar cheese and we put it in a pan

8:00 kind of like a grilled cheese sandwich and it's

8:03 really good with a little bit of mayo.

8:06 All right.

8:06 Oh, here we have my receipt.

8:08 How much do you think all this food costs?

8:10 We're not [snorts] even close to done.

8:13 All right, we have some seaweed packs.

8:18 These are roasted seaweed.

8:20 We use this to wrap rice in.

8:23 Um, every Monday we have miso Monday at my house.

8:27 Uh, which means that we eat miso soup, usually some edetamame,

8:33 usually some kind of fish like these muscles or tuna.

8:37 Uh, we make a little omelette, like a Japanese style omelette with soy sauce.

8:41 It's really good.

8:42 Very healthy, I think.

8:44 And we love to eat the seaweed with rice.

8:47 Okay.

8:47 There's a bunch of random stuff in here.

8:49 Valentine's Day pasta.

8:51 Yeah.

8:51 The thing I like about Trader Joe's is um this these are little hearts.

8:56 I don't know if you can tell for Valentine's Day.

8:59 Um, but they don't use any food dyes.

9:02 So, this red is from tomato and beet powder.

9:06 Very cool.

9:07 Um, when possible, I try to avoid food dye.

9:11 Not all the time, but usually.

9:12 Oh, this is another trail mix thing.

9:14 Dried banana chips.

9:16 So good.

9:17 I love them.

9:18 All right, we got some chocolate chips.

9:20 Some more chocolate chips for making cookies this week or this month.

9:24 Some jam.

9:26 Raspberry preserves.

9:28 Jam.

9:28 You can also call it jelly.

9:30 You can call it jam.

9:31 You call it preserves.

9:32 Preserves is kind of fancy.

9:34 That's why they have it on here to make you feel like it's fancy.

9:37 Um, I just call it jam.

9:40 Salsa.

9:41 You can get fresh salsa at the grocery store,

9:43 but I wanted this to last a lot longer, so I got the kind in a jar.

9:47 And we will eat that with our tortilla chips.

9:54 All right.

9:55 I have lots of chocolate bars.

9:57 These are pretty cheap chocolate bars,

9:59 but in the winter we like to have a bonfire and make s'mores.

10:03 And that is graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate.

10:06 So, we go through chocolate whenever we have a bonfire.

10:09 We'll probably use this whole pack because we invite all

10:12 the neighbors over and we go through lots of supplies for s'mores.

10:17 I think s'mores is my favorite dessert.

10:20 My favorite like home dessert.

10:22 There's some fancy desserts at other places that are really good, but s'mores.

10:26 Toasted marshmallows with chocolate and graham crackers.

10:29 If you have never had it,

10:31 the only way to have it is over a bonfire, but it's so good.

10:35 [clears throat] All right, we got some more granola bars.

10:37 I like to keep granola bars at the house just because it's like a easy Oh,

10:43 we're at the park and I forgot to bring a snack

10:45 and my kids are starting to scream and they need some food.

10:48 I have a granola bar.

10:50 Very easy mom trick.

10:52 All right, we got some mac and cheese.

10:54 I like to have this at the house so that when

10:56 we have a babysitter come and make dinner for the kids,

10:59 that's what we always make.

11:00 Easy.

11:01 Uh, this is my little treat.

11:03 This is JJU matcha latte packets.

11:06 It's [laughter] so silly.

11:08 It's tea and it's just a little packet that you

11:11 open and it has powdered matcha tea in it from Jju

11:16 which is an island in the south of Korea

11:18 that Dan and I visited and it's just a little treat.

11:23 It's way too expensive for what you get.

11:25 I think this 10 packets of tea was like $4 or something.

11:31 I think that's kind of expensive because you can buy a whole box

11:34 of tea for $4 and have 25 tea pack tea bags in there.

11:38 So, this is my little afternoon treat sometimes.

11:41 All right, we're running out of space, but we're still going.

11:44 All right, we have pasta.

11:49 So, pasta is very cheap in the US.

11:51 This bag was like a $150.

11:54 Pretty cheap.

11:55 Oh, there's more pasta in here, but it's buried.

11:57 All right, we got more seaweed.

11:59 Usually we buy a big package of them

12:02 online um because we can get a better price,

12:07 but I just bought them at Trader Joe's because we needed them on Monday.

12:11 More apples.

12:12 We go through a lot of apples and they last forever in the fridge.

12:16 Two boxes of mac and cheese because three kids can eat two boxes.

12:20 Cocoa powder so we can make hot chocolate.

12:23 It's supposed to be very cold this week.

12:26 Another final thing of seaweed.

12:29 This is Noki.

12:31 Usually I don't buy Noki, but Theo wanted to buy this and I gave in.

12:37 I guess we'll put it with some pasta sauce and cook it.

12:41 We'll see.

12:42 Maybe I'll put some sausage or meat or something with it, too.

12:48 Another thing of pasta.

12:49 This is dried pasta.

12:51 This is not fresh.

12:52 The noki is a little more fresh, but it's been um vacuum sealed in here.

12:59 This was my treat I bought for myself.

13:02 [laughter] Uh, now usually this is the kind of thing I would make for myself,

13:07 but I wanted to buy it because that's fun.

13:09 This is lavender salt scrub.

13:12 [laughter] So, in the shower you can take some

13:14 of this and scrub it on your skin and it feels

13:17 kind of abrasive but also makes your skin feel so

13:21 soft and sometimes in the winter that's really nice, right?

13:26 Oh, we have a little another thing.

13:27 This is some dried mango.

13:29 We like to have that with our trail mix.

13:32 But when you have dried fruit, warning, if you have children,

13:36 um you have to be very careful because this can get stuck in their teeth.

13:40 And we've had problems with one of our kids having a cavity because they ate

13:46 dried mango and raisins and we didn't brush it out of their teeth well enough.

13:51 It will stick in their teeth.

13:53 So, make sure you brush your teeth.

13:54 [laughter] All right, we got onions.

13:57 We got more onions.

13:59 I'm actually going to put those back in the bag.

14:01 These are organic yellow onions.

14:03 This bag of four of five onions is like $4 maybe.

14:11 And these garlic.

14:14 I got two heads of garlic.

14:15 I have some garlic, but I wasn't sure how much I had.

14:18 And garlic, each garlic thing is like 60ents.

14:22 It's pretty cheap.

14:23 Um, usually I grow garlic and we have a ton of it,

14:26 but last year my garlic didn't do very well,

14:30 so we have to buy it, which is okay.

14:32 All right.

14:33 Now, we have some cold Oh, let's do this bag first before we get to cold items.

14:38 We have one loaf of [laughter] bread.

14:41 Usually, I we will buy some bread and then I'll make

14:44 bread if we need more bread cuz it's very easy to make.

14:48 If you would like to immerse yourself, continue to immerse yourself in English.

14:52 Um, I made a video while I was making bread

14:56 and that video you can see up here or here,

14:59 wherever it is, and you can immerse yourself as well.

15:02 I also made a special drink, secret drink,

15:06 um, kind of a drink, um, during that video.

15:08 All right, we got bananas.

15:10 Now, usually in the US, you can buy bananas by the pound.

15:14 Um, I don't at Trader Joe's it's like 50 cents a pound, I think.

15:24 50 cents a pound.

15:24 It's very cheap to buy bananas,

15:26 which is crazy because these are organic bananas and they came from Colombia.

15:33 Wow.

15:34 Okay.

15:36 So, they traveled very far from the country of Colombia,

15:40 and somehow I can still buy them for so cheap, which is wild.

15:45 All right, we have these mini tortillas.

15:48 I like the small ones because we can kind of make little tacos out of them.

15:53 And potatoes.

15:54 I have some potatoes in my closet, but I needed some more for this month.

15:58 And these are great in soup in the winter.

16:02 Okay, let's make a little space here.

16:05 Here I have one [laughter] and two gallons of milk.

16:11 Um, you can buy very cheap milk.

16:14 Milk could be like $2 for this.

16:17 This is $6.

16:19 Uh, because I try to buy a little bit better milk.

16:22 Usually I like to buy local milk.

16:24 That's my favorite thing.

16:26 Um, and it's $8 for one gallon of local milk.

16:31 But because I was already at Trader Joe's, I got this, which is $6.

16:36 And we are supposed to have a giant snowstorm in three days.

16:40 We never get snowstorms, but we're supposed to have a huge snowstorm.

16:45 So, I decided to buy two milks.

16:48 Usually, I wouldn't buy two, but it's nice to have extra milk.

16:52 My daughter, who's two, she drinks so much milk.

16:56 My sons never drink milk.

16:58 She loves milk.

17:00 So, I buy lots of milk, but that's okay.

17:04 All right, let's go through this.

17:05 I have some cold things.

17:07 So, here I have some frozen peas.

17:11 I'm going to put these in this bag.

17:15 [clears throat] All right, we have some frozen peas, some frozen edamame.

17:19 If you have ever gotten this at a an Asian restaurant,

17:23 Japanese restaurant, Chinese restaurant before,

17:26 it's so cheap to buy these frozen.

17:28 I think it's like $2, maybe $3 for this whole pack.

17:33 And it's so fun.

17:34 I love edamame.

17:36 We eat that probably once a week.

17:39 Um, I got a big thing of lettuce because

17:41 tonight we are going to have Korean barbecue lettuce wraps.

17:45 So, usually I don't buy this lettuce.

17:47 I don't think it's very tasty,

17:48 but it's good with beef and rice and some samjang dipping sauce.

17:56 So good.

17:57 All right.

17:57 Then we have some uh these are some fresh sugar snap peas.

18:01 I have some hummus in the fridge and we

18:03 like to dip fruit or dip vegetables in hummus.

18:06 So we have some peas.

18:08 We have some carrots.

18:09 The only carrots they had left were these many colored carrots.

18:13 So you can see they're purple kind

18:17 of yellowish white and then the regular orange.

18:20 Very fun.

18:21 Carrots are really cheap too.

18:23 So this bag was like $1.50.

18:25 But my kids can eat carrots so fast.

18:28 They'll dip them in hummus.

18:29 I'll put them in soup.

18:30 They could eat this bag in like two days.

18:34 Oh yeah, my kids love cucumbers.

18:36 Love cucumbers.

18:38 If they saw this, it would be gone in 5 minutes.

18:41 It's not cucumber season,

18:42 but it makes them so happy that I often just get a cucumber.

18:46 This cucumber, this is like a English hot house cucumber.

18:50 It comes from Canada in a hot house somewhere, probably a greenhouse.

18:54 This was like $2 maybe.

18:58 Um, which I think is kind of expensive for a cucumber,

19:01 especially because we can grow them in the garden

19:03 in the summer for free, but it's okay.

19:06 Sometimes in the winter you have to spend a little bit more money on food.

19:10 Um, I got some celery.

19:11 I'll make soup with this later.

19:12 Maybe we'll dip it in hummus, too.

19:16 And I have some I have some sausage.

19:19 I'll put this in soup.

19:20 All right, we have one bag left.

19:22 Can you believe it?

19:23 Let's get to it.

19:25 This is some cold things.

19:26 So, I have this cold bag.

19:28 It's a kind of a cooler bag.

19:30 You could say a cooler bag or a cold bag.

19:33 And I like to take that to the grocery store so that my frozen

19:37 things or milk products or cold things can stay a little bit cold.

19:43 We have some frozen cherries.

19:45 So, these are things that we like to put in smoothies.

19:48 Smoothies are one of my favorite afternoon snacks.

19:52 Healthy snacks, I think.

19:54 So, we'll put some fruit like cherries or blueberries.

19:57 We put this in yogurt as well.

20:00 Raspberries.

20:00 We buy these frozen in the winter.

20:03 Um, some more blueberries and yogurt.

20:10 Um, we will put yogurt, milk, fruit.

20:14 Sometimes I put other things like peanut butter

20:17 or this cacao powder to make it a little bit chocolatey.

20:20 Sometimes a glug of maple syrup so that it's a little sweeter.

20:24 Oh, and frozen bananas is the key to make it nice and creamy.

20:27 And I I like to put a lot of water in it

20:31 so that it's drinkable and my kids can drink it too.

20:35 But some people like a very thick smoothie.

20:37 But we eat a smoothie every other day maybe if we have the ingredients.

20:44 All right, we have bacon because we are going to be making breakfast tacos,

20:49 which means eggs, bacon, maybe potatoes.

20:52 Cook it all together, put it in a tortilla with a little bit of salsa.

20:57 So good.

20:59 All right, we got some bacon in here.

21:02 I have this is usually how you buy meat in the US.

21:05 It will be prepackaged.

21:07 You can buy it in different packaging,

21:10 but often times we'll buy meat like this in a little oneb package.

21:15 That's what like 2 kg maybe.

21:18 [laughter] Um, and this is called ground beef.

21:21 It will tell you how much fat is in it.

21:23 And you can choose the percentage like 5%, 15%, 20%.

21:28 I think 20% is the most fat um that you can get and that's the tastiest I think.

21:35 So, we usually get the 8020.

21:37 80% meat, 20% fat.

21:40 I think that's very good.

21:41 And I'll put this in a meat sauce in the tomato sauce with pasta for a dinner.

21:49 It'll be really good.

21:51 All right, we have some cheese sticks.

21:52 This is a very American snack.

21:54 I don't know if these exist in other parts, but my kids love them.

21:57 I love them.

21:58 It's literally a little strip of cheese and you just eat the strip of cheese.

22:04 It's kind of like the Bobby Bell round cheeses, but it's in a strip.

22:10 More smoothie things.

22:12 Mango is so good in smoothies.

22:16 Half and half.

22:16 So, this is what Dan will put in his coffee in the morning.

22:21 Half and half means half milk, half cream.

22:25 So, it's thicker than milk.

22:28 I put milk in my tea in the morning, but I can put half and half in it, too.

22:32 All right, we are almost done.

22:33 I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

22:35 One more pack of granola bars.

22:37 Hopefully, those three packs of granola bars will last us a month or longer.

22:43 We have some sour cream.

22:45 Sour cream, um, it probably exists in most countries,

22:48 but it's just a thicker type of yogurt.

22:51 It's not as healthy as yogurt,

22:53 but we like to put it with uh tacos, with tortillas, with those breakfast tacos.

23:00 A little bit of this.

23:01 So good.

23:02 Um you can also make your own ranch dressing, which I often do, with sour cream.

23:07 Very good.

23:08 And finally, some tofu.

23:10 We'll put this in our miso soup every Monday.

23:13 Okay, I think we did it.

23:14 Holy cow, I got so much food.

23:16 So now is the grand question.

23:18 How much do you think all of this cost?

23:22 Here is my receipt.

23:25 This costs a grand total of $346.92.

23:33 Oh my goodness.

23:34 So, this store has no discounts, no coupons.

23:38 Everything is generally just a low price.

23:41 Um, so I could probably save a little

23:44 bit of money by going to different grocery stores,

23:47 but I like this grocery store and I can get almost everything there.

23:52 I want you to guess what was the most expensive item.

23:57 Everything here, every individual item was less than $10,

24:01 but one thing was more than $10.

24:05 What was it?

24:08 The olive oil.

24:10 The olive oil was $12.99.

24:15 Okay, so that's fine.

24:16 This is high quality.

24:18 It will last us for a little while.

24:20 Um, the next most expensive thing [sighs] [laughter] maybe the the bacon was $7,

24:34 but everything else is pretty cheap.

24:36 Um each of the nuts, the nut bags are individually expensive and bec

24:41 or less expensive like four, five or $6.

24:45 But we bought so many nuts.

24:47 So that whole trail mix purchase is pretty expensive.

24:52 But we use it all month.

24:53 We eat it all the time and it makes me happy

24:55 to know that my kids are having a healthy snack that they love.

24:59 [laughter] And I will bake a lot of stuff with these ingredients.

25:03 We'll make a lot of meals.

25:04 Um, certainly smoothies.

25:06 Um, I will bake healthy cookies with different oats

25:10 and different ingredients that I have in my pantry.

25:13 And hopefully this will last us for a long time.

25:15 We already have some meat in our freezer.

25:18 Some chicken, some salmon, and some shrimp.

25:23 So, we will also eat that.

25:25 I know I didn't purchase very much meat,

25:28 but we will we have some in the freezer as well.

25:31 All right.

25:32 Well, thank you for joining me for this grocery shop.
