We Raced to Every Train Station in Taiwan

We Raced to Every Train Station in Taiwan

Jet Lag: The Game

0:05 We're here in Taipei, and over the next five days,

0:07 we're gonna race to every train station in Taiwan.

0:10 Whoever gets more wins.

0:11 But right now, it's 7:30 am.

0:13 So we gotta go, go, go!

0:15 Alright, alright.

0:16 Here we go, Ben!

0:18 Let's go!

0:27 Okay, here's the deal.

0:29 There are 243 long-distance train stations in Taiwan.

0:32 Over the next five days, we're gonna be racing to see who can get more of them.

0:36 That's a neat train!

0:37 Clapping in appreciation.

0:38 Look at the livery, yeah.

0:39 Along the way, we'll be completing challenges.

0:41 Estimate Monkey Mountain.

0:42 Pitch a painting.

0:44 Let's make a deal.

0:45 Seeing sights.

0:46 Yeah, that's sick.

0:47 Look at the view.

0:49 The view is great.

0:50 Boy, we are— Sure already feels like we are out here.

0:52 And doing everything we can to stop

0:54 the other team from claiming stations of their own.

0:56 There was a problem with our passes.

0:57 Now I think we might miss our train.

0:59 Go, Sam, go!

1:00 Go, Sam, go, go, go!

1:02 Here's how it works.

1:06 At the end of five days,

1:07 the team with the most stations under their control wins.

1:10 In order to take control of a station, teams must physically travel to it,

1:13 and then place down some number of the game's currency,

1:16 which we're calling chips.

1:17 But we'll need to be careful because claiming

1:19 a station doesn't mean we'll control it forever.

1:21 If the other team goes to that same station and puts down more chips,

1:25 they'll steal control of it.

1:26 Each team starts with 50 chips,

1:28 but can earn more by completing challenges which are spread across the map.

1:32 Each challenge is worth a different number of chips based

1:34 on how hard or how risky it'll be to complete it.

1:36 For now, that's all you need to know.

1:38 So now both teams have gotta look at their options and decide

1:41 where they'll want to head first to start earning chips and claiming stations.

1:44 Welcome, you're our newest quirked up white boy.

1:46 Hello!

1:48 This is Mike.

1:48 We'll introduce you more later.

1:50 But first three challenges, we need to generate them.

1:52 Alright, Adam.

1:54 We gotta generate the first challenges.

1:56 Yep, yep, yep.

1:57 Here we go.

1:57 Let's take a look here.

1:58 Okay, so there's one in this cat village.

2:01 That one's worth 25.

2:03 I don't know what a cat village is.

2:06 No.

2:06 And then there's one sort of down the west coast.

2:10 Uh-huh.

2:10 I think a big question right now is like,

2:12 what part of the board do we want to gain control of, right?

2:15 Lemme tell you.

2:16 I kinda like the east coast.

2:18 Okay.

2:18 Strategically.

2:20 We could go ahead and snag the west coast line,

2:24 which I think is the better line to start with.

2:26 I think that if we can have that under our control,

2:29 it's going to throw a wrench in their works.

2:33 Okay, then there's one worth 30 coins.

2:35 That one is...

2:36 Right here.

2:37 Right here in Taipei.

2:38 Oh, that's like...

2:39 right here.

2:40 It's— We could get there in 19 minutes on the metro.

2:43 Would we want to do that?

2:44 Yeah.

2:44 And then once we complete it, it generates two more challenges.

2:47 Two more.

2:48 So we'd have more to choose from.

2:50 I mean, the real question is,

2:52 should we just go knock out this one that's close to us?

2:55 Because we don't have to travel there, right?

2:57 We can go get those coins right now.

2:59 They haven't made a move yet.

3:00 I think we should.

3:01 Should we do that?

3:02 Oh, it looks like they're going.

3:03 Okay, well, we're going too.

3:05 Alright.

3:06 I don't know where they're headed.

3:07 Let's keep an eye on them.

3:08 They're following us.

3:09 Yeah.

3:09 I think we can...

3:11 beat them.

3:11 Are you sure we can beat them?

3:13 I'm sure.

3:14 It's gonna be that kinda season.

3:15 Yeah, I think they're headed to the park.

3:17 Okay.

3:18 I don't wanna compete with them.

3:20 I think we should go lock up the west coast.

3:21 I think we should maybe even arguably put...

3:24 some decent claims down.

3:25 Put— Yeah.

3:26 Let's go to the challenge that's on the west coast.

3:28 Okay, west coast challenge.

3:30 And on the way, we can get some claims.

3:31 Okay.

3:37 We want that.

3:39 Got it.

3:42 B-roll, B-roll, B-roll.

3:44 Lovely B-roll.

3:47 Alright.

3:47 We're on the move.

4:03 Welcome to Taipei Main Station, Benjamin.

4:05 I love being in Taipei Main Station.

4:08 Alright, Ben.

4:09 Alright.

4:10 Okay, here we go.

4:11 So here are basically our options.

4:13 We need to get to Xinzhuang Station, which is here.

4:17 We could take the high-speed, which would be about an hour and a half.

4:21 Okay.

4:22 Or we could take the low-speed, which would be two hours.

4:24 Now— But we could claim a lot more stations on the low-speed.

4:27 We claim a lot more stations on the low-speed.

4:29 We can take this limited express that goes on the low-speed route,

4:33 but still hits all of the stations.

4:34 To me, that's perfect.

4:35 That's pretty good.

4:36 That's in 13 minutes.

4:36 That's pretty well-timed.

4:37 Let's do that.

4:41 This is our own map that we made.

4:42 Oh, we actually made it.

4:44 This is our map.

4:45 Sorry.

4:45 Everyone wants our awesome map.

4:47 Okay.

4:48 Let's figure out where that is.

4:55 So we gotta go up and out.

4:57 Yeah.

4:59 Okay, I think that's the park?

5:01 That— Looks parky.

5:02 It does look parky.

5:04 This is a nice park.

5:05 This is like the central park of Taipei.

5:07 I don't think that's true, but— Oh, okay.

5:10 I think it's a park.

5:11 (guffaws) Alright.

5:13 Alright, we've made it to our spot.

5:14 Challenge details.

5:15 These are the mystery challenges.

5:18 They're all numbered.

5:19 Ready?

5:19 It is called: Go birdwatching in Da'an Park.

5:28 Go birdwatching in Da'an Park.

5:30 Da'an Park is an iconic birdwatching location in the heart of Taipei.

5:35 Go to this sign, which lists 33 bird types that can be found in the park.

5:38 One team member must attempt to memorize these birds.

5:41 Once ready, the other team member will go and photograph

5:43 a bird and then present it to the memorizer.

5:46 The memorizer, without looking at the sign,

5:48 gets one guess to successfully identify the bird.

5:51 If they fail, they may reattempt once with a new bird.

5:54 I've never had a good time with an animal challenge.

5:57 I'm...

5:57 pretty good at spotting animals.

5:59 I like this.

6:01 I'm willing to let you do that.

6:02 However, I will warn you.

6:03 I am god awful at memorizing things.

6:06 Okay, well then maybe we should switch.

6:07 If you're halfway decent at memorizing, I think it's probably better.

6:10 Okay, alright.

6:11 Yeah, let's switch then.

6:13 Well, nice pond.

6:16 We're not here for that.

6:17 We're here for the— Oh my gosh, there's a lot.

6:19 32 birds— 33 birds listed.

6:22 So they do have— they have the Latin name and the English name.

6:27 That's a relief.

6:28 I mean, I just wanna point out.

6:30 It's not like just a treepie.

6:32 It's the gray treepie.

6:34 And it's the...

6:35 black bulbul.

6:37 What's the difference between a barbet and a night-heron?

6:40 Ooh, night-heron?

6:41 Alright, okay, let me— Gimme two minutes to put this together.

6:44 Cutaway to Adam and Ben while I memorize.

6:47 So many people here.

6:47 Oh my god.

6:48 It's crazy.

6:55 So we do have to decide...

6:56 Yeah, how many coin— how many chips do we wanna put down on these?

6:59 What kind of claims do we wanna make?

7:00 We have to go a lot of stations.

7:02 Yeah, how many?

7:03 So I think we just put down one on each.

7:04 I mean, could we afford to do two?

7:07 Let me look.

7:08 22.

7:08 Yeah.

7:09 So we could put down two.

7:11 To me, that seems like a big risk.

7:13 Yeah, I agree.

7:14 We shouldn't be playing with that low of a balance.

7:16 If we were to fail this challenge, we would be in huge trouble.

7:19 Alright, one chip each.

7:21 I feel good about this.

7:22 It's definitely— it's slow, but I think it's gonna be a strong start.

7:26 Now that Ben and Adam are heading west

7:27 to claim their first stations of the game, I need to explain one last thing.

7:32 While traveling is free,

7:33 teams can only travel through stations that belong to them.

7:37 If they're traveling through unclaimed territory, like they are right now,

7:40 they need to put down at least one chip on each station

7:42 to add them to their territory as they head down the line.

7:45 If they ran out of chips,

7:47 they'd only be able to travel back to stations they already own.

7:50 That means that claiming stations is not only useful for earning points,

7:53 but also for controlling certain parts of the map.

7:56 If Mike and I want to travel along this same line,

7:58 it's now gonna cost us more because we have to flip

8:01 each station to our side if we want to travel through them.

8:04 Putting down big claims on important lines can be enough

8:07 to completely block your opponent from entering certain parts of the map,

8:10 and controlling the right areas at the right time

8:12 is going to be the key to dominating this game.

8:15 Here's one thing, Adam.

8:17 So right now, we're about to pass through this station, Banqiao.

8:21 This is a station that is both high-speed and low-speed.

8:24 If you want to go anywhere in the west...

8:26 Right.

8:26 Mhm.

8:26 You've gotta pass through here.

8:28 So maybe it would be worth it To fortify— to just fortify this station.

8:32 Put like a— put five down.

8:34 Just create like a wall.

8:36 By the way, a team isn't allowed to control a station by more than five chips.

8:40 So for an unclaimed station like Banqiao,

8:42 five is the maximum amount Ben and Adam can put down.

8:45 It'll encourage them to stay away.

8:47 To head east.

8:48 I'm compelled by it.

8:49 It's a nifty little bit of strategy.

8:51 Yeah, it's fun.

8:54 Whoa, it's already pretty.

8:56 Whoa-ho, dude.

8:59 Look at that.

9:00 This is gonna be like one of the prettiest seasons, I think.

9:04 That's awesome.

9:16 Okay, there's a bunch of pigeons, doves, turtle doves, spotted doves.

9:22 There's magpies, moorhens.

9:26 What's a drongo?

9:28 Alright, Mike, how you feeling?

9:31 Good, I think I'm feeling good enough to give it a first guess.

9:35 So, you go find a bird, take a photo.

9:39 Okay.

9:39 This is a bird.

9:43 Alright, here's another one.

9:49 Mm, okay, maybe.

9:51 Eh, this one could be decent.

9:53 Could be.

9:54 These birds are so cool.

9:55 Look at that guy.

9:57 Oh, J-chillin.

10:00 Alright, this guy seems really distinctive.

10:04 I really like this one.

10:07 I think this one's pretty clear.

10:19 You feeling confident?

10:21 Feeling confident.

10:22 Alright.

10:25 I believe that...

10:27 to be a black-crowned night heron.

10:34 I believe it to be this, which is number 12,

10:38 which is a black-crowned night heron!

10:41 Sh'awfully looks like it.

10:42 We're off to a good start!

10:47 I learned all the pigeons and turtle doves and doves that they have.

10:51 But you know what?

10:52 I'm gonna forget it all.

10:52 Let's keep going.

10:53 Yeah.

10:53 Ben, we have a message from Sam,

10:54 and I would say I'm worried about how early he sent it.

10:57 Yeah, that was fast.

10:59 Okay, they have completed the challenge at Da'an Park.

11:02 Well, that is quick.

11:04 Well, let's see what the new challenges are, shall we?

11:06 Yeah.

11:07 Let's see what's dropping there.

11:09 We generate two.

11:11 One of them...

11:13 Ooh?

11:14 ...is all the way down there.

11:16 West coast.

11:17 The other one, it's to the east, okay.

11:20 It's at this hot springs.

11:23 And it— But it has a variable reward.

11:25 So that means depending on how well you accomplish it or...

11:27 Yeah.

11:28 Whoa, an otter just...

11:30 That's cool.

11:32 That's not a bird.

11:33 So I now suspect they'll probably go east.

11:36 It would be pretty expensive for them to fall

11:39 behind us and try and start taking our territory now.

11:43 Yeah.

11:43 I think they probably want to get some territory of their own.

11:47 This is the awesome thing about having a beard is

11:49 I feel like I can really— it helps me think.

11:51 Yeah, yeah.

11:53 I'm thinking really good now.

11:55 Hmm.

11:55 We'll see what they do.

11:57 Let's see which direction they're going.

11:58 Oh yeah, where are they?

12:00 Going west.

12:00 Okay.

12:01 So do we want to go east?

12:03 If we go west, that means we're fighting with them, taking chips off each other.

12:08 If we go east, we're free for at least today, possibly tomorrow.

12:12 Regardless, we wanna get to Taipei Main Station.

12:14 So how about let's get going.

12:15 Yeah.

12:15 And we figure it out on the way.

12:16 Okay.

12:21 Sam, I have an idea for a team name.

12:24 Mam.

12:24 Thanks to the bird, I think we should be the Night Herons.

12:28 Sounds cool.

12:30 Normally we just do a portmanteau of our names.

12:32 Not gonna stop me.

12:33 I mean, it was a very cool bird.

12:35 It was a great bird.

12:36 I would love to have its hairstyle.

12:38 (laughs) It's pretty here.

13:11 Benjamin, it's pretty here.

13:13 This is what we've been told.

13:15 Yeah.

13:15 It's what everyone said.

13:21 Okay, welcome to "Siin-Chuan".

13:25 "Sing-Shong".

13:27 That's what it sounded like they said on the train announcement.

13:30 Okay.

13:30 I don't trust either of us.

13:32 Yeah.

13:32 The important thing is we have to get to the river.

13:34 The challenge is at the river.

13:35 We don't know what the challenge will be.

13:37 No.

13:37 But it's a little bit of a trek.

13:38 Yeah.

13:41 You know, 40 chips is pretty good.

13:44 It's nothing crazy.

13:45 So hopefully this challenge is not...

13:48 Yeah, I'm hoping this challenge is not super hard.

14:04 It's convenient that the camera has already been there.

14:07 Oh, yeah.

14:07 Planning time.

14:08 We need to make some decisions.

14:09 Well, okay, if you look at the map, the west side has a lot more

14:13 lines that cross the high-speed rail, regional rail.

14:17 Whereas we go east, there is one and only line.

14:20 So if we go that direction, and we drop a bunch of chips

14:24 on the first bunch of stations to essentially "defend" it...

14:29 then that gives us a lot of freedom

14:30 to run without feeling like they'll take it over.

14:33 Yeah, and we can kind of build a bit of a fortress

14:36 from Taipei to really disincentivize them from ever competing in the east.

14:39 Right.

14:40 Okay, next question is, what do we do on the line?

14:43 We're going to Houtong.

14:44 What if we did three stations with five in a row?

14:47 Yes.

14:47 Build a wall.

14:48 Yes.

14:49 Then one on the rest.

14:50 That— I— Because we do have a balance.

14:51 We do have a bigger balance.

14:53 I feel very good about that.

14:54 And then all the other ones, we put one.

14:55 So good on that strategy?

14:56 Good on that.

14:57 Shall we get in the train?

14:58 Let's get.

14:58 Let's go.

14:59 (grunts) I'm so excited to get on trains.

15:02 (laughs) I wanna see the sights.

15:06 We are pretty much out here.

15:07 Oh, look at that.

15:08 That's kind of cool.

15:09 I mean, just this view.

15:10 This is a great view.

15:11 Look at that.

15:11 You got the mountains and the bridge and the...

15:14 Here, do a little zoom.

15:16 Really frame that (bleep) up.

15:21 Yeah!

15:23 We haven't mentioned, who are you, by the way?

15:25 Oh, my name's Mike.

15:26 I run a YouTube channel called DownieLive,

15:28 and it's about fun things like riding trains

15:31 or blimps or going to Formula One races.

15:34 Transportation type stuff.

15:36 Formula One is trans...portation.

15:38 Yeah.

15:38 They drive cars.

15:40 Yeah...

15:46 Alright.

15:47 Our first train of the season.

16:00 Oh wait, have they started moving yet?

16:02 Let's take a look.

16:03 Yes, predictably, it looks like they're heading east.

16:06 I think that starting east is a mistake.

16:09 I think it's— it definitely is going to reduce their flexibility.

16:13 Yeah.

16:14 Which— We're gonna have a lot more options.

16:16 They've put five on...

16:19 a station down that way.

16:20 I mean, we're both doing a little bit of defense.

16:22 Yeah.

16:23 We have no interest in going that way.

16:25 At least not yet.

16:26 Yeah.

16:27 But it's gonna be a little bit annoying when we do eventually go that way.

16:30 Yeah.

16:31 Very possible we end up going along the east from all the way from the bottom.

16:35 I think that's very likely.

16:37 Alright.

16:37 Let's get to this river.

16:43 Okay.

16:44 Damn.

16:46 Let's see what our challenge is.

16:49 Are you ready?

16:49 I'm ready.

16:52 The floor is mostly lava.

17:00 The floor is (mostly) lava.

17:02 Choose one team member to cross the Tofu Rocks.

17:05 There's only one correct path to the other side,

17:07 which they will have two minutes to memorize before they cross.

17:10 Once they begin their attempt,

17:11 if they step on the wrong rock or deviate from the path in any way,

17:15 they are incinerated and the challenge is failed.

17:19 Alright, Ben, we have to pick one of us to memorize.

17:22 How confident do you feel?

17:25 Well, I'll note that I'm very hungry.

17:28 I was trying to get a snack earlier, and I failed.

17:31 I do think that historically,

17:33 I have been slightly better at memorization challenges than you.

17:37 Yeah, that is pretty clever.

17:39 Nope.

17:40 That is pretty clear.

17:41 (muttering)♪ What can you do♪♪ to turn it around♪ Oh, I turned around too early.

17:46 The driver doesn't worry♪♪ The driver doesn't worry♪♪ if he takes the journey

17:48 slow♪♪ if he takes the journey slow♪♪ driving—♪♪ This is—♪ No, it's driving.

17:52 (bleep bleep) It's dri— He goes— He— now— 'cause we're talking

17:55 about the dri— I think you do have a very good memory.

17:58 So— Here's something that I think we could establish now before looking.

18:04 I can right now in my head decide what sort of mnemonic device I'm going to use.

18:08 Right, right, what is the best way to study.

18:10 Right, 'cause ultimately there's always gonna be like eight ways you could go.

18:14 Eight ways you could go.

18:14 Right?

18:15 Yeah.

18:15 Then I just have to memorize a number.

18:18 Yeah, that's pretty good.

18:20 I think numbers will be a little bit easier.

18:21 Okay, I'm gonna memorize it with numbers.

18:23 Alright, Ben, you gotta have a timer ready?

18:25 I'm gonna bring out my iPad so that I can be translating it.

18:29 I'm ready.

18:30 Now.

18:31 Okay, here we go.

18:34 Two minutes on the clock.

18:35 Wait, oh no, this is crazy.

18:37 It's offset.

18:40 No, the— this system isn't gonna work.

18:42 There's actually five that surround them.

18:45 So it's gonna have to be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

18:49 So it's gonna be: one, one, three, three, one, one.

19:00 Okay, no, I'm just gonna have to do it visually.

19:03 Alright.

19:03 Get that in your brain.

19:05 Stick it in the brain stem.

19:06 I, you know, I wanted to mention, by the way.

19:09 I realized that...

19:12 I think this season, I really want to win.

19:16 I really wanna lock in.

19:19 I'm glad to hear that because that's I really— the only reason I came, Sam.

19:22 Let me do the take that we put in if we lose.

19:24 Okay.

19:26 You know, what I realized a couple seasons ago is like,

19:29 it's really not about winning.

19:30 (giggles) Okay, I just have to look at it.

19:35 Alright, that's time.

19:35 One, two, one, two.

19:39 I shouldn't have been trying to...

19:42 I got too fancy with it.

19:43 You're starting from that edge?

19:45 Yeah.

19:46 Okay.

19:47 I'll come down too with this.

19:49 Alright.

19:52 Alright, I know the first one.

19:56 Yep.

20:10 Then it makes like a triangle.

20:17 Yeah.

20:23 Yeah.

20:32 Alright, this is where I completely lose it.

20:43 Yeah, that.

20:44 Yeah?

20:45 Yeah.

20:53 No?

20:53 No.

20:54 Was it that?

20:55 You had to go that way.

20:56 It was that way?

20:57 It was that way.

20:58 (bleep) So just by the way,

21:00 Ben and Adam failing this challenge is gonna create two big problems for them.

21:03 For one, they're almost out of chips,

21:05 and they just wasted a bunch of time for nothing.

21:07 The other problem though, is that this challenge is gonna stay on the board,

21:10 and the reward is now getting boosted.

21:12 They can't reattempt it, but Mike and I can.

21:15 If we manage to complete it, we'll earn a whopping 60 chips instead

21:19 of the 40 that Ben and Adam were competing for.

21:21 Yikes!

21:23 Alright, well, that's not so good.

21:25 No, it's...

21:28 It's a tough loss of 40 coins.

21:32 (bleep) Well, we'll have to inform them that we failed here

21:37 and that this challenge is now worth 60 if they're able to complete it, but...

21:41 There's no way.

21:42 Look, I'll tell you what.

21:44 I don't think they're completing it.

21:47 I hope they come waste their time.

21:49 (gasps) They failed it.

21:52 No!

21:53 (laughs) No!

21:54 No way!

21:56 Okay.

21:58 We're off to a good start.

21:59 Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

22:01 Oh, wow.

22:02 I did not expect that.

22:05 Does that change anything?

22:06 We're winning.

22:07 That's what changed.

22:09 Yep.

22:09 It's not over yet, Sam.

22:11 No, with the game— the game's over.

22:13 No!

22:14 This is them being McLaren being disqualified in the race,

22:17 and we're Max Verstappen.

22:20 It's inevitable.

22:21 (laughs) It's inevitable.

22:22 Max Verstappen, World Drivers' Championship is inevitable.

22:26 So...

22:29 We're poor.

22:29 We're poor, Adam.

22:30 How many chips do we have?

22:31 I think we have 23.

22:33 Okay, that's not a ton...

22:34 but we're right near the high-speed line.

22:37 The fastest way to do this is to go up to the high-speed,

22:40 go down, and then transfer.

22:42 You can do it in five stations.

22:43 Okay, well...

22:44 (sighs) I mean, look.

22:46 I certainly would love to be putting down bigger claims on the high-speed,

22:50 but that is a luxury that we simply can't afford.

22:53 Nope.

22:54 There's a train at 11:07.

22:57 So we should be able to make that if we leave right now.

22:59 Okay.

23:00 Ugh!

23:01 Sorry, man.

23:02 It's okay.

23:03 I— look, I don't think I would've gotten that.

23:05 That's for sure.

23:06 Shoot!

23:26 Okay, we are in Houtong.

23:28 Is that one more chip?

23:30 Yes.

23:31 Ready?

23:34 We'll just edit that in post so it worked.

23:36 No, we won't.

23:38 (laughs) Welcome.

23:41 Ooh, it's chillier here.

23:43 Oh, it's raining.

23:44 Alright.

23:44 What do you reckon— We gotta do something cat-related here, surely.

23:48 Yes, okay.

23:50 Cat village.

23:51 It's a village for cats?

23:53 I think it— yeah.

23:54 Oh?

23:56 Oh?

23:57 A black-breasted wa—warbler.

23:59 Is it?

24:02 Do you assume every bird is that now?

24:03 Yeah.

24:04 It's like an old rail yard.

24:05 Oh, nice.

24:08 Cool!

24:08 This is it.

24:09 I mean, you just never know where you're gonna end up on Jet Lag, do you?

24:11 Yeah.

24:12 You ready?

24:13 Yeah.

24:14 (chortles) Oh no.

24:16 Cat-ven-gender— Cat-venger hunt.

24:23 Catvenger hunt.

24:24 Once a rich coal mining town,

24:26 Houtong is now best known for its massive population of stray cats.

24:30 You have one hour to find and photograph all of the following cats:

24:33 a cat that is asleep, eating, touching another cat,

24:36 more than 15 feet from any other cat, and above you.

24:39 No cat may be used in multiple pictures.

24:42 Okay, okay.

24:43 Those two cats are 15 feet apart.

24:44 Under the woodshed, and the white one.

24:47 Do we have to photograph it, you said?

24:49 We do.

24:50 Those two are 15 feet apart.

24:52 They are right now.

24:52 I don't— I think that one's gonna be easy.

24:54 I think the rain is gonna make things trickier.

24:57 A cat eating is gonna be tough.

24:58 Oh, there's food there.

25:00 Hello, you want to eat, kitty cat?

25:03 Hi.

25:04 Oh, there's no food in the bowl.

25:06 That guy...

25:07 Okay, we have found cats.

25:09 Finding them above us?

25:11 They're not really gonna be on a roof when it's raining.

25:14 No.

25:15 And eating is going to be hard.

25:17 Okay, I'm gonna lock this one as our 15 feet one.

25:19 Yeah, those two.

25:20 Those are definitely more than 15 feet.

25:22 Yes.

25:22 Okay, so we've got one.

25:23 Touching another cat, right?

25:25 That one's gonna be tricky.

25:26 Cats do not like associating.

25:29 They...

25:29 I agree.

25:30 Above us— Oh, there was one on that patio.

25:33 There was one.

25:34 Do we stand under?

25:35 Does one of us go up with the camera?

25:36 Maybe.

25:37 'Cause we can squat.

25:40 Wait, wait.

25:40 Oh, oh.

25:42 Oh, no, sniffing.

25:44 Are you two gonna touch?

25:46 Wait, okay, but here's the thing.

25:50 Oh, is that above you?

25:51 He's definitely— He's fully above me, right?

25:54 Yeah.

25:54 Yeah, that's a clear...

25:56 Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

25:57 Oh, oh!

25:58 That's eating!

25:59 Huge!

26:00 Huge!

26:02 Okay.

26:02 Two in one.

26:03 Aw, these guys are so cute.

26:05 You're so cute.

26:06 Aw.

26:06 Oh my god.

26:07 That's a little— We're not allowed to double count.

26:10 But as in, if these two touched.

26:12 So I think— Oh, okay, so move on.

26:14 Yeah.

26:15 Okay.

26:15 Do we want to just— Oh man, these ones are so tiny.

26:18 So tiny, so cute.

26:20 Man, these cats are copious.

26:21 I think the touching...

26:23 Surely there are a bunch of cats that are hidden somewhere warm.

26:27 Reaching out♪♪ Touching hands♪♪ Touching you♪ Under the cover.

26:35 Sweet cat feline♪ We don't have the rights to that.

26:37 Oh.

26:38 (laughs) I'll ed— It's so serene.

26:46 Are you feeling serene?

26:49 Not really.

26:51 I would be feeling serene if I had walked on those rocks correctly.

26:56 Well...

26:58 We'll get our serenity back.

27:01 I want serenity now.

27:03 We need a wittle sweepy little kitty cat.

27:06 This one's so cute.

27:07 There was one in the station that was kind of sleeping on that water...

27:11 thing.

27:11 I agree.

27:12 We could go head back there.

27:13 Yeah.

27:15 Oh, he's awake.

27:16 Oh, he's not sleepy.

27:18 Oh, underneath.

27:19 Underneath the table.

27:21 Ooh.

27:22 There.

27:23 That's our sleeping cat.

27:25 That is a very sleepy cat.

27:27 Very sleepy guy.

27:29 Okay, so we just need one more.

27:34 This is interesting though!

27:35 Whoa, what an overpass!

27:37 Yeah, that's a fancy overpass.

27:40 I feel like I'm on a movie set.

27:42 Or like we're going into a haunted house.

27:44 Excuse me.

27:45 Do you know where more cats are?

27:47 I mean, it's an appropriately named village.

27:49 There are a lot of cats here.

27:50 Oh, here's another cat.

27:52 Let's let these two do their thing.

27:55 (meow) Okay, there you are.

27:57 Cat?

27:57 (meow) Cat?

28:00 No?

28:01 Oh, oh, oh.

28:02 Step back, step back.

28:04 Let it happen.

28:05 (gasps) No!

28:05 Oh!

28:06 So close.

28:07 (laughs) No!

28:08 The problem is cats don't like other cats.

28:10 I know, but— They just swapped spots.

28:15 Did those two— Yeah, did— You going to touch that one?

28:18 No.

28:19 (meow) But maybe.

28:20 They're getting mad at each other.

28:22 Oh, that one's about to throw up.

28:23 I just assume, maybe they'll fight.

28:24 That one just threw up.

28:25 (giggles) Oh, it did too.

28:28 (whispers) Oh.

28:28 Wait, maybe they'll...

28:29 Maybe they'll touch.

28:30 Talk to each other.

28:30 No.

28:32 No.

28:33 (giggles) Okay.

28:42 Alright.

28:42 We made it back to the station.

28:44 We got a pretty well-timed train actually,

28:47 to the high-speed station, and then down we go.

28:50 It does look like they're still at Houtong.

28:53 Wow, they're really struggling.

29:08 There's another cat there, and there's another cat this way.

29:11 Will they touch?

29:22 Ooh.

29:23 (whispers) Come on.

29:25 Either fight or love.

29:26 Go nuzzle 'em, yeah.

29:27 Gotta be quick with the photo.

29:31 He's stealing your food.

29:33 We could be here for ages.

29:36 (whispers) What's happening?

29:37 Oh, is it for them to stay dry?

29:39 Look at him, look.

29:41 This went from very easy to very difficult to almost impossible, very quickly.

29:46 It hasn't been that long.

29:48 It's not catastro— Look at the view.

29:50 I mean, good point.

29:53 The view is great.

29:55 Still an impossible task.

29:58 Hello.

29:59 This looks like the sheriff in town.

30:01 Yeah, he looks...

30:02 on a mission.

30:04 Yeah.

30:05 There's another white one eating under there.

30:07 Get this one eating.

30:08 I'm gonna get this one eating.

30:10 You got him eating?

30:11 I got him eating, yeah.

30:12 And I'll prove that he was eating.

30:17 I think let's go check out that cage.

30:19 Right.

30:19 So if we could swap those out Yes.

30:20 Right.

30:21 to the two touchy ones.

30:22 We have the eating.

30:23 I'm not worried about the one above you.

30:24 I think that one we can get relatively easily.

30:26 Okay, so let's head back.

30:28 I'm feeling good about the cage.

30:29 They seem to like each other.

30:30 I agree.

30:31 I'm gonna get this one for our one above.

30:34 In case we wanna swap out.

30:36 It's fully above.

30:37 It's definitely above you.

30:38 Fully above you.

30:39 Thanks buddy.

30:40 This cat's cooler than the others.

30:43 Oh, they might be touching right now.

30:45 Oh, they're awfully close.

30:47 Oh, come on.

30:49 Okay, what if we...

30:51 What if we give 'em some love?

30:53 Okay, okay.

30:54 You— okay.

30:55 Come on.

30:56 Oh!

30:57 Come on, come on.

30:58 No, it was touching.

30:59 It was, but I don't think you got the photo.

31:01 Come on.

31:02 Can analyze the photo in a second.

31:03 The tactic works.

31:05 Oh yeah.

31:06 Aren't you jealous of this love?

31:07 Come on up.

31:08 Come on up.

31:10 Yes, yes.

31:11 Oh no, he's going away.

31:12 He's not touching.

31:15 That was it.

31:15 Did you get it?

31:16 Oh— That was it.

31:17 Alright, we've analyzed the playback,

31:20 and at the moment of the photo taken, they were indeed touching.

31:24 There was impact.

31:25 There was impact, and we captured the impact.

31:27 So...

31:29 We've done it.

31:30 Challenging...

31:31 accepted.

31:35 Ben, we have a text from Sam.

31:37 They have completed the Catvenger challenge.

31:42 We're sort of getting absolutely cooked.

31:43 We're getting chip hogged.

31:46 Yeah.

31:48 But we're about to do so much awesome stuff.

31:51 So we don't even have to worry.

31:53 And also we should look at now, two new challenges should be generated.

31:57 First we need to generate two challenges.

31:59 Oh yeah.

31:59 So let's do that quickly.

32:00 Oh, one more down in the east.

32:02 South on the line.

32:03 Variable reward.

32:04 That one's way down.

32:06 That's far the other way.

32:08 Yeah.

32:08 So none of those I think should impact our movements that much.

32:13 Okay, so a new one on the east coast.

32:16 It's west coast.

32:17 30 coins.

32:18 It's pretty far down.

32:19 It's further down.

32:20 Yeah, so I think there's no chance we wanna go to that first.

32:23 Well, but we can go to it next.

32:25 That's not bad.

32:26 That's not bad.

32:26 This makes me think, so we could go to what they just did.

32:29 Tofu Rocks.

32:30 But...

32:30 They failed it.

32:31 They failed it.

32:32 And we're also in no rush because they can't attempt it again.

32:36 This kinda makes me think, continue to this challenge.

32:39 Then consider turning back to Taipei.

32:42 Yep.

32:43 Having really solidified this section.

32:45 Yep.

32:46 And setting ourselves up for more competitive action on the west coast tomorrow.

32:50 Yeah, I agree.

32:51 Alright, so wait for this train.

32:53 It's in 24 minutes.

32:55 Perfect.

32:55 Sounds good?

32:56 Would you like a coffee?

32:57 I would love some— I would love maybe some food.

32:59 A cat coffee.

33:15 Yeah.

33:19 Okay.

33:20 So we need to hurry a little bit.

33:22 Okay.

33:24 Train's in six minutes.

33:26 It's the 11:22.

33:28 Says it's on time.

33:30 It still shows.

33:34 You got that business guy to start running too.

33:38 Invalid card.

33:40 Uh-oh.

33:44 No.

33:44 (sighs) It's not working?

33:46 Nope.

33:47 Well, Ben, we've missed our train.

33:49 Yeah.

33:50 Our rail passes...

33:52 You have to show them to a person.

33:54 And so we were moving too slowly.

33:57 But there's another one...

34:00 ...in 25 minutes.

34:01 Oof.

34:02 We are off to a rough start.

34:04 This is not one of our finest starts.

34:07 I'll tell you that.

34:08 But it's okay.

34:09 It's gonna put them at ease.

34:12 And then we will strike.

34:13 Yeah.

34:14 Yeah, for sure.

34:16 We've acquired...

34:19 ...milk tea, milk tea boba.

34:20 And caffeine coffee.

34:22 Less interesting.

34:23 And yeah.

34:24 This is great.

34:26 Good.

34:26 Let's see what they're doing.

34:27 Oh, so they're probably waiting.

34:29 Oh.

34:29 The next high-speed train for them is not for another 29 minutes.

34:32 That is tough.

34:33 That was poor planning on their part.

34:37 Man!

34:37 I don't want to get my hopes up.

34:38 'Cause look, luck is never on Team Sam's side.

34:41 You'll learn that with time.

34:42 And luck can turn quickly.

34:44 I mean, it doesn't really turn if it's always bad luck for me,

34:47 which makes me think that there must be some

34:49 roundabout way in which this is good for them.

34:51 Ben?

34:54 Yes?

34:55 What do you got?

34:56 We may be here...

35:00 Did you forget where we are?

35:01 In Hsinchu Station?

35:03 Yeah.

35:03 But in a larger, more philosophical sense...

35:08 we are in...

35:09 ...the Snack Zone, baby!

35:18 I love these so much.

35:20 Welcome to The Snack Zone.

35:21 Today we'll be trying Coolish.

35:28 Oh my god.

35:30 Cool-ish, more like the coolest snack around.

35:43 I think we have Snack Zone'd Coolish before,

35:45 but it's extremely deserving of a second Snack Zone and a third and a fourth,

35:51 and we will keep Snack Zoning it every time we come

35:54 across it because it is one of God's greatest gifts to man.

36:01 It's a very aesthetic coffee shop.

36:02 I can't take the coffee on the train, so, I gotta cool it off quickly.

36:06 Down in one, suck it up.

36:07 Just scold my throat, my esophagus.

36:09 Yeah, you don't need that for Jet Lag.

36:11 (sighs) Back to the trains.

36:15 I think it is...

36:17 Yeah, southbound, 1A.

36:19 How do you know?

36:20 11:39.

36:21 How— I also speak Mandarin.

36:23 It's amazing.

36:24 Yep.

36:24 You didn't prep for the season?

36:26 (laughs) I didn't take lessons for the last six months.

36:29 Okay, so before we get on, what do we wanna do for deposits?

36:32 I mean, I think we agreed on our fortification plan,

36:35 and I'm happy with it as is.

36:38 Unless you want to drop more.

36:40 I tend to think that considering there's no steal on the board,

36:43 I kinda wanna keep budget.

36:44 Yeah, I agree.

36:45 So, I think minimum deposit under the theory

36:48 that we're probably gonna turn back towards Taipei.

36:51 Yes.

36:52 Train.

36:53 Train.

36:53 Well this is a different train.

36:54 Different rolling stock.

36:55 Oh, this is a cool red one.

36:56 Oh, I love the font.

36:59 Taiwan font.

37:03 (applauds) You clapping for the train?

37:08 That's a neat train.

37:08 Clapping in appreciation.

37:09 Look at the livery!

37:10 Yeah!

37:10 Okay.

37:15 We missed the shot of the train arriving.

37:18 Sorry!

37:26 Ooh, nice seats.

37:28 Yeah, more plush.

37:29 Good bye, cats.

37:31 Yeah.

37:31 Good bye, kitties.

37:35 Those were very, very good kitties.

37:37 Very good kitties.

37:38 Very good kitties.

38:01 Okay.

38:03 We need to get to the local station.

38:15 Off to Changhua and then some chips finally.

38:19 Please god.

38:20 Yeah.

38:21 Yeah.

38:21 And we're just gonna put one chip down on these next two.

38:55 Watch your step.

38:56 Thank you.

38:57 Alright.

38:57 So we need an update.

38:59 How many stations do we check off?

39:00 We're at 24, I believe.

39:03 So they're still in the lead, but not by that much.

39:05 But we have a whole heck of a lot more chips than they do.

39:08 And...

39:09 we're gonna nail this challenge.

39:11 That's right.

39:12 You know, I think they're still pretty far from their challenge.

39:14 There's a chance we can complete this challenge

39:16 before they even get their first challenge done.

39:18 Or at least first challenge successfully done.

39:20 Okay.

39:21 So that gives us a...

39:22 strategic advantage, yeah.

39:23 The psychological edge, yeah.

39:27 Whoa!

39:29 This is pretty.

39:30 This is very pretty.

39:32 Wow!

39:34 Oh, it's a little walkway!

39:36 You wanna take it?

39:37 Yeah, I do.

39:38 Why'd they put it here though?

39:39 Look at this.

39:43 That's fun.

39:44 Very vibey.

39:45 Very fun.

39:46 Okay, we're going to the hot spring park.

39:48 Ooh.

39:49 Which I hope means we're going to a hot spring.

39:51 That would be very nice at this moment.

39:52 I didn't bring a bathing suit.

40:13 Alright, well— Benjamin— We've made it to Changhua.

40:17 Welcome to the wonderful plac— I don't know if it's a city or a town.

40:21 Welcome to the place, Changhua.

40:23 And look, those chips, they're so close, I can almost taste them.

40:27 They are actually sort of a 25 minute walk away.

40:30 That's close enough for me to taste them.

40:31 Yeah, you have an incredible sense of taste.

40:33 Yeah, it's kind of awesome.

40:35 We need this one bad.

40:36 Yeah, we— if we don't get this one, we're in real big trouble.

40:40 Yeah.

40:45 This is cool, whatever it is.

40:46 Yeah, this is cool.

40:47 This isn't where we're going.

40:48 No, this is not where we're going, but it's neat.

40:51 I like that guy's vibe.

40:52 This is very steep.

40:53 Oh, no.

40:54 Oh, Ben.

40:56 Yeah.

40:57 Oh dear.

40:59 It's...

41:00 very much uphill.

41:02 I don't know if it's coming across on camera, how steep this is.

41:05 No, it feels extremely uphill when you're here.

41:08 Oh, so look at the image here, and then imagine it— Make it worse.

41:12 In your head, make it worse.

41:14 Editors, make it worse.

41:16 Oh man.

41:17 How do we pick the right challenges every time?

41:20 Oh yeah, we've been— we've done good.

41:22 We're— Bird watching.

41:24 We're off to a hot start.

41:25 Cat watching.

41:26 Yeah.

41:26 Hot springs.

41:28 Oh, it smells delightful.

41:30 It does smell— Incense.

41:31 Gotta say, this is lovely.

41:33 The vibes are incredible.

41:35 Look at this place.

41:38 Challenge time.

41:41 Challenge number 49.

41:44 Be in the hot seat.

41:46 That makes sense.

41:47 Okay, pause.

41:48 Before I read this challenge, I should explain how this kind of challenge works.

41:52 Most challenges on the board are just worth a flat number of chips,

41:55 like that Tofu Rocks one.

41:57 But in a call your shot challenge like this one, we set the reward ourselves.

42:01 The higher the reward we set, the harder the challenge becomes.

42:05 And if we don't hit the level we set for ourselves, we earn nothing instead.

42:09 There are a few other types of rewards that'll come up later,

42:11 like multiplier challenges that multiply our whole chip balance,

42:14 or steal challenges that steal a certain percentage of the other team's chips.

42:18 Those are gonna matter a lot,

42:19 but we don't have to worry about them until one comes up.

42:22 For now, let me read the rules of this challenge.

42:25 Be in the hot seat.

42:27 You are now at one of Jiaoxi's many famous hot springs,

42:29 but you aren't here to relax.

42:31 You are in the hot seat.

42:33 While in a hot spring, one team member must correctly answer as many

42:36 trivia questions as they can in 60 seconds.

42:38 Questions may be skipped, but can only be answered once.

42:41 You can earn eight chips per correctly answered question,

42:44 but you must call your shot.

42:46 If you do not reach the number

42:47 of correct answers you predicted within the 60 seconds,

42:49 you earn nothing, and the challenge is failed.

42:52 The question-asker can read the questions before you call your shot,

42:55 but cannot discuss any specifics with their teammate.

42:58 That makes sense.

42:59 At a hot springs?

43:00 So one person will ask, the other person answers.

43:02 Yes, but it's a call your shot.

43:04 We have to decide in advance how many we think we'll get right.

43:06 Okay.

43:07 Ben, they appear to be doing a challenge at a hot spring.

43:10 This one was one of the variable ones, right?

43:12 Yeah, this is a call your shot.

43:14 So you know, we have to hope that one of two things happens.

43:19 One, they play it so conservative that they barely get anything.

43:23 Yep.

43:24 Or two, they get cocky, they call too high of a number,

43:29 and then they can't pull it off.

43:30 Look, if I were them, I would be feeling pretty cocky right now.

43:33 I lean towards being pretty conservative.

43:35 Okay.

43:36 What do you think?

43:38 I would rather we complete it...

43:40 Yeah.

43:41 successfully than not.

43:42 I would think that three or four is probably the right answer.

43:45 Okay.

43:46 I lean towards me doing the trivia.

43:48 I agree.

43:48 And you asking.

43:49 Yes, and I'll make a conservative decision as to how many we should go for.

43:54 Well, the other thing, it doesn't say you have to ask them in order.

43:58 No?

43:58 So you could ask the questions that you think I'll be best at first.

44:01 Right.

44:02 Before you ask the questions, here's what I'll say.

44:04 I think pretty much everything I know is from writing videos, so...

44:08 Which is a lot.

44:09 That brings you a lot.

44:10 Geography, politics, not great on history, really bad at pop culture.

44:14 I was gonna say, yeah.

44:15 I can go away for a bit.

44:17 So you can talk with the camera Right, okay.

44:19 about the questions.

44:20 Okay.

44:20 And then I'll come back in like 60 seconds.

44:22 Okay.

44:23 So it looks like at first here, there are some questions regarding Taiwan.

44:28 There are some questions regarding Jet Lag: The Game, the YouTube channel.

44:33 I'm glad we've decided to have Sam answer these questions rather than myself,

44:36 'cause he should be able to answer at least the Jet Lag: The Game questions.

44:43 What is this?

44:44 This is a freaking airplane.

44:46 There's a giant statue of an airplane?

44:51 This is not the challenge location, by the way.

44:53 No, this is just here?

44:54 This is just here.

44:56 Okay.

44:58 Tell you what, I saw this challenge, and I was like, well, 25 minute walk.

45:02 At least it's not as bad as the walk to the rocks.

45:06 It's as bad.

45:07 No, it's worse.

45:09 It's as bad.

45:11 Yeah.

45:14 Oh, I think I see what it is.

45:16 Yeah.

45:16 I think that it's pretty chill to be here.

45:19 There are arcade games.

45:20 Yeah, yeah.

45:21 It's for him?

45:23 Yeah.

45:24 Him?

45:27 No, it's not for him, Ben.

45:29 We think it's about him, probably.

45:31 Oh, that makes more sense.

45:33 Alright, we can set up an awesome shot here.

45:35 Yeah.

45:37 Ready?

45:37 Yeah, okay.

45:39 Well, we made it.

45:40 What do we got?

45:42 Let's see.

45:43 Whew.

45:43 Got our challenge envelope here.

45:47 Let's make a deal.

45:53 Let's make a deal.

45:54 You may have noticed three tall structures in this park:

45:56 the Big Buddha and the two pagodas.

45:58 You'll complete this challenge by selecting the right one and going to it.

46:02 Which one is right?

46:03 Head to this website to find out.

46:06 This challenge has its own website.

46:07 Yes, well, look.

46:09 Amy does love to do things a little extra.

46:11 Alright, so we just— we pick one of these and we go to the top.

46:15 Okay, we've selected the Buddha statue, and it says,

46:18 "Climb to the top of the Great Buddha Statue.

46:21 Click when you make it." Okay.

46:22 Okay, well look.

46:24 That is tall, but we— It's not as bad as getting up here.

46:28 We just went up a pretty tall...

46:30 So I feel like it's gonna be okay.

46:31 What do you think the odds are that it is just the Buddha?

46:33 It feels so obvious.

46:35 The Buddha feels obvious, but maybe Amy is feeling merciful.

46:38 Right.

46:39 This is pretty sick.

46:42 So we just...

46:43 ...go up, I guess.

46:46 Let's go up.

46:49 (groans) Yeah, it's burning.

46:52 Yeah.

46:54 Oh, I hit my head.

46:55 I hit my damn head.

46:56 Careful.

46:57 I'm perfectly sized for this Buddha.

47:00 Alright.

47:01 Seems we can go up no further.

47:03 Okay.

47:05 We are at the top of the Buddha.

47:07 Here, I'll click when I made it.

47:10 Okay, we've learned that North Pagoda is incorrect.

47:13 This is the information we've earned.

47:14 We have Great Buddha selected.

47:16 Would we like to keep it or switch to South Pagoda?

47:18 Okay, I see— We should switch because of Monty Hall problem.

47:23 Isn't that like magic?

47:24 No, no, no.

47:24 Monty Hall problem is real.

47:26 That's math.

47:26 Monty Hall problem has never made sense to me, but I believe you.

47:29 Switch to South Pagoda.

47:30 Well, it says now to climb to South Pagoda.

47:32 Fine.

47:33 Okay.

47:35 No problem at all.

47:37 Alright, watch your head.

47:40 Oh.

47:41 Okay.

47:43 South is that way.

47:44 So that would be the South Pagoda.

47:46 You know, the Monty Hall problem doesn't really make sense, but it is true.

47:49 Please, in the comments, explain the Monty Hall problem to us.

47:55 Should I come back?

47:56 Yeah, you can come back.

47:57 Okay, so I have to come up with a number.

47:59 I haven't come up with a number yet, but I'm moving through.

48:01 Yeah.

48:01 We might not want to do too many.

48:04 How many does that mean?

48:05 I think three or four.

48:08 Look, I would not be disappointed if we went away here with 24 coins.

48:12 But I would be disappointed if we walked away with zero.

48:14 Yeah.

48:15 Okay, let's go with, we gotta get three correct in 60 seconds.

48:19 Yeah.

48:19 I'll ask the first three questions that I think are the easiest,

48:22 and after that we'll go through and we'll make guesses.

48:25 Okay, alright.

48:26 Should we go find some hot springs?

48:27 Let's go find the hot springs.

48:29 Right.

48:29 Now you've been told that one of them isn't right.

48:32 So you can switch to that one, and there's now a 66.6% chance it's this.

48:36 Now what's gonna be really frustrating is if we're

48:39 in the 33.3% chance that it always was the Buddha.

48:45 Okay.

48:45 Alright, Ben.

48:46 We have made it to the South Pagoda.

48:48 Okay, here we go.

48:49 What does this say?

48:51 Wrong choice.

48:51 Oh (bleep) We have to get to the top

48:54 to the great Buddhist statue in the next five minutes.

48:56 Okay, we can do that.

48:57 Yep.

48:58 Just, we're being very respectful.

48:59 Can we get up that way?

49:00 No, I think, yeah, this makes— More

49:08 free foot action for Nebula subscribers only.

49:10 Oh yeah, this is for all the paying viewers right here.

49:14 Nebula subscribers only, as always.

49:15 That's our policy on feet.

49:17 (snickers) Ohh...

49:20 that is lovely.

49:22 I know it says only one of us has to be in the hot seat,

49:24 but I'm going to stand here.

49:26 I haven't— It's delightful.

49:27 I haven't come all this way not to get in.

49:29 Alright.

49:30 Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to "In the Hot Seat" with Sam,

49:32 who is in the hot seat.

49:34 You ready?

49:34 Alright, you know your order.

49:35 I know the order.

49:36 We are going for three questions.

49:38 We're gonna beat— We're gonna nail it.

49:39 We're gonna nail it.

49:40 Alright, we're gonna start in three, two, one.

49:45 At the time of writing,

49:46 what is the most viewed video on the Jet Lag: The Game YouTube channel?

49:50 Skip, skip.

49:51 Okay.

49:52 No, Hide and Seek Japan, episode one.

49:55 Yes.

49:56 Okay.

49:57 No.

49:58 Skip.

49:58 Okay.

49:59 Including this one, how many people have competed

50:01 on at least one full season of Jet Lag: The Game?

50:05 Michelle, Toby, Scotty...

50:09 Adam, Ben, Sam...

50:11 Brian...

50:14 you...

50:17 Nine?

50:19 Incorrect.

50:19 Which of the US states is closest in land to Taiwan?

50:22 Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut?

50:26 Massachusetts.

50:28 Incorrect.

50:28 Keep going, keep going.

50:29 Four out of the ten North...

50:32 We're out of time.

50:32 We're out of time.

50:43 That was disappointing.

50:44 I feel like we should have been able to get that.

50:46 Those questions were longer than I expected.

50:47 They were long-winded questions.

50:50 The other ones were harder.

50:52 I thought you get the— Geography.

50:53 I know geography.

50:54 I know.

50:54 I thought you'd get the Jet Lag questions.

50:56 I don't know.

50:56 I don't know geo— I don't know— (wheezes) You should listen to The Layover.

50:59 I don't know anything about Jet Lag.

51:01 (groans) I don't like that, because to be honest,

51:06 there's every chance they can get that, and they'll now have a 50% bonus.

51:11 Okay, well, all we have to do now is head

51:13 back to the train station and make the next train.

51:17 (sighs) Yeah.

51:19 Let's not let this take the wind out of our sails.

51:21 I don't know.

51:22 My sails are pretty windless.

51:22 It's not over yet.

51:24 I don't know, that just— That felt like a fumble.

51:26 That didn't feel like bad luck.

51:27 It was, it was.

51:28 It's gonna give them...

51:29 A lot of hope.

51:30 It's gonna put a lot of wind in their sails.

51:32 Yeah.

51:34 Oh good, it's more up.

51:37 Okay, let's get up there.

51:48 (pants heavily) Come on, buddy.

51:52 I'm coming.

51:53 (groans) No problem.

52:01 I made it.

52:02 Nice recovery.

52:04 Challenge complete.

52:08 Yeah.

52:09 Had to work for this one.

52:11 Yeah.

52:12 But we did it.

52:14 Okay.

52:16 Let's get out of the big Buddha.

52:18 Let's generate new challenges.

52:20 And let's tell them.

52:22 Oh!

52:23 I feel like Michelle Khare after she ran her seven marathons.

52:28 This is definitely just as hard.

52:30 Okay.

52:31 So, option one.

52:32 Whatever the (bleep) that we're done with.

52:35 The past is the past.

52:36 Moving forward.

52:36 I feel like I needed humbling.

52:39 I was getting a little too excited by our lead.

52:40 We had a hot start.

52:41 So our next challenge on the east coast, I'm looking, is really far.

52:46 Quite far south.

52:47 It's only— it's actually— well, sorry.

52:48 It's a variable challenge.

52:49 So we don't even have a guarantee.

52:50 Ooh.

52:51 And I don't— After that, I don't like variables.

52:52 I don't either.

52:54 Okay.

52:54 So then let's go to Taipei.

52:56 I think we go to Taipei.

52:57 We see what drops on the map.

52:59 Yep.

52:59 When they populate it.

53:00 But like for the rest of today and tomorrow, I wanna be in the action.

53:04 Okay.

53:10 Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!

53:25 Pick three.

53:26 Alright.

53:26 Oh, wait, Ben.

53:28 Sam texted us while we were doing the challenge.

53:31 (chuckles) That was good?

53:36 They failed.

53:36 They failed.

53:37 That's good.

53:38 They did get a little— They got cocky.

53:40 They got a little big for their britches, didn't they?

53:43 Guess what?

53:43 Well, well, well, well.

53:44 Your britches have split, and our britches...

53:47 Are doing perfect.

53:48 They've been patched, and they can hold...

53:51 Everything.

53:52 Everything.

53:53 Alright, let's reveal the next two challenges, Ben.

53:56 38 and six, Benjamin.

53:59 Oh (bleep) 38 is a steal, near them.

54:04 Bolstering...

54:06 Did we just get new challenges?

54:08 Ooh, this could change things.

54:10 Caption+ by JS* caption.plus| @caption_plus Welcome back to Jet Lag.

54:13 This season is amazing.

54:14 And if you want to watch more of it right now, all you got to do is go to Nebula

54:18 because the next episode is available right now on Nebula.

54:21 And that's always the case.

54:22 As you probably know, if you watched this before.

54:24 We're always one episode ahead on Nebula, throughout the whole season.

54:27 And let me tell you, this season, I'm really excited for y'all to watch it.

54:30 Hopefully you're enjoying it already,

54:32 and hopefully you're enjoying Taiwan already.

54:34 It was such an amazing location.

54:36 But what you can also probably tell

54:38 from this episode is that this season really builds.

54:41 You know, as the map gets filled up and all that, things get pretty crazy.

54:46 I think it's very fun.

54:48 Very strategic.

54:50 Very...

54:51 Yeah, there's some big tactics, let's say.

54:54 I would say the number of tactics you would even believe.

54:56 You would not believe the tactics.

54:58 At least three.

54:59 And you wanna know what else you wouldn't even believe?

55:01 That on Nebula, not only do you get every episode of Jet Lag one week early,

55:05 you also get access to the Layover podcast.

55:07 That's our Nebula exclusive aftershow podcast where

55:10 we recap every single episode of Jet Lag.

55:12 We talk about the behind-the-scenes.

55:14 We talk about things we had to cut.

55:15 You know, we talk about how we designed the games...

55:18 Yeah.

55:18 ...and all of the thought that went into that.

55:20 And I think, with a season like this, that is so strategic...

55:23 Yeah.

55:23 The Layover only becomes more important.

55:25 'Cause there's so much to explain about why we do things.

55:28 Oh, and Michael Downie, of course, is on The Layover.

55:30 Oh, yeah He'll be our guest every episode this season, of course.

55:33 Our favorite Canadian Jet Lag guest.

55:34 We love that guy.

55:35 But of course, Nebula is more than just Jet Lag a week early and our podcast.

55:39 We also have a million —Well, I guess not a million things, False advertising.

55:44 but a lot of things on Nebula.

55:47 Other documentary projects we've worked on, other game shows we worked on.

55:50 And of course, that's just us.

55:51 There are tons of other amazing creators on there.

55:54 If you like video essays,

55:56 Lindsay Ellis puts out a lot of her video essays exclusively on Nebula,

56:00 and they're just great.

56:02 She recently released one about the media ethics of South Park, which I loved.

56:07 There's so much to watch on Nebula.

56:11 And you should definitely sign up.

56:12 Now that I think about it,

56:13 I think we do have millions of things if we consider individual frames.

56:17 We might, yeah.

56:18 Sure.

56:18 We made every individual frame.

56:20 Yeah, yeah.

56:20 Every frame's a painting.

56:21 Right, exactly.

56:22 So we made millions of things.

56:24 How do you sign up for Nebula?

56:25 You gotta tippy-tippy-tap some buttons.

57:00 account that makes this show and pays for everything you see on screen,

57:04 everyone working behind-the-scenes.

57:05 You know, there's like two dozen people working behind-the-scenes

57:08 of various elements of this show, to put it together.

57:12 And that's only possible by our Nebula subscribers.

57:14 So, we really appreciate it.

57:16 So go to nebula.tv/jetlag to sign up and go

57:19 watch the next episode right this very moment.
