Bayern Munich vs. PSG PREDICTIONS! Who will Arsenal face in the Champions League final? | ESPN FC
ESPN UK
0:01 Uh, Wednesday sees the second leg of what
0:03 was of course one of the best matches we've
0:05 seen ever in the uh Champions League in the first
0:08 as it finished PSG 5, Bayern Munich 4.
0:11 All to play for then in Germany.
0:13 Here are the two coaches.
0:17 The mission is to win games.
0:19 That's all it is.
0:20 We want to win the the football match.
0:22 Uh, we have ideas that that we think help us
0:26 to to do that and and we win a lot of games.
0:29 But, um I mean, what do you have to say about PSG?
0:32 That that they are the ones who won the Champions League last year, by the way.
0:35 And I'm sure that when Luis Enrique comes to his press interview,
0:39 you're going to say the same questions.
0:41 So, um I I don't discuss ideas or philosophies.
0:45 It's not about this.
0:46 For me, it's about winning the game.
0:48 Um What is important and and I think that we shown that we win a lot of games.
1:23 You're going to feel one of these coaches,
1:25 does your approach to this game differ to that of the first leg?
1:33 I think uh the approach to the second leg is uh is a bit easier,
1:38 actually, um than to the first leg because the first leg, you know,
1:41 there's there's so many open questions and there's so many scenarios that you're
1:45 going through and then it turned out into um as, you know,
1:49 this this picture showed that that's the Wunder Spiel
1:51 or the the the game of the century, basically, 5-4.
1:55 Um now it's it's it's a very very clear situation, you know,
1:59 Bayern Munich needs to win by one goal and going into extra time and then
2:02 they might go into to penalty shootouts and it will be it will be a thriller.
2:07 There's no doubt about it.
2:08 I think you those two teams are the best in Europe at the moment.
2:11 They're meeting in the semi-final so one will go home.
2:14 Um, and it it will be very very tight, you know,
2:17 what I hear from from my friends in in Munich
2:20 is that they they are hungry hungry hungry.
2:23 They want to they they want this final and they want this trophy so badly.
2:27 I mean obviously PSG won it last year
2:29 in a fantastic way against Inter Milan and yeah,
2:33 it will be interesting to see how how PSG
2:36 will will will will counter every move from from Bayern
2:39 Munich but Bayern Munich is in in its
2:42 way of playing and it's its style over decades.
2:46 And not only under under Vincent Kompany who's doing a fantastic job there is,
2:50 you know, they take matters in their own hands.
2:52 They're not waiting for PSG making their own moves.
2:55 They they're going to go for it.
2:58 So hopefully we see a couple of goals as we not as many probably as in the first
3:02 leg but but we're going to see some goals and it will be a a spectacle.
3:06 I mean it's it's two fantastic teams meeting up.
3:09 They're not going to let us down, Rob.
3:10 It's not going to be like today, is it?
3:11 Don't be silly.
3:13 No, it's certainly not going to be like today.
3:15 I mean we're still going to see both sides
3:17 try and win the game and go and and attack.
3:19 But I think both coaches and both sets of players will
3:22 be a little bit more aware of when they do lose possession,
3:25 how can they defend better than they did in the last game, you know?
3:28 We we can't throw quite so many men forward, you know, when we're attacking.
3:31 We've got to have some sort of a resistance
3:33 at the back so that if we do lose the ball,
3:36 you know, we won't be broken down quite so easily.
3:38 You can't allow the game to be so open because it
3:40 becomes pot luck who's going to finish off the the chances.
3:43 And I don't think either manager would want that.
3:45 So I think we're still going to see a great game.
3:46 We'll see both sides go for it but there will be a little bit
3:50 more reservation in terms of making sure
3:53 you're not caught on the counter attack.
3:54 If if you're a player, you're excited, aren't you?
3:56 Well, obviously you're excited Champions League semi-finals,
3:58 it's a stupid statement, but even more so given what we saw in the first leg.
4:02 Yeah, I mean, you are you always want to play in the biggest of games
4:05 and this is just a monster game to try to get to the to the final,
4:09 particularly after what happened in in Paris.
4:12 Hakimi, I think, is out, so that's a that's a that's a blow.
4:16 You know, with his dynamism and his pace
4:18 getting forward and his attacking style, obviously.
4:21 Nuno Mendes had a a tough time from from Alicia.
4:23 There's so many sort of subplots and sub stories to to this game.
4:28 I was trying to think back to all the goals and if why bother.
4:31 Yeah.
4:31 Remember how they happened because it was just I
4:34 I I think we said it at the time, you didn't have to you didn't even have
4:37 to make like a big mistake and you got punished.
4:39 You might have just been on the wrong side
4:41 or you might have been halfway out of out
4:42 of position and all of a sudden a ball was
4:44 played through or a ball was played over the top.
4:46 Uh so, it's going to be a game of fine margins.
4:49 Both teams, I think, will try and dominate it.
4:51 As you saw in the graphic there, they you know,
4:53 Bayern Munich did dominate possession even away in Paris.
4:56 Uh did create a lot of chances.
4:58 You think about the one Alicia missed, I think it was in the first half.
5:00 It was a little bit lightweight from him, which is unusual,
5:03 so but there there are there are so many facets of this game
5:08 that that could go brilliantly for either team or just or just
5:12 wrong because some of the players that are on the field this they
5:17 see a pass so early that sometimes it's just difficult to defend.
5:22 You know, before you know it, that ball's around the corner and there's
5:24 a striker in or there's a wide player in.
5:26 There's so much quality on both sides.
5:28 It's a really really difficult game to call.
5:31 I I don't think I think I don't think either
5:33 of these sides will even think about taking their foot off the gas.
5:37 They have sub- sublime confidence in how they go about it and they won't change.
5:42 And that's that's why I think we saw such a great game in the first leg.
5:46 And and I we'll see maybe not nine goals,
5:49 but I think we'll see another high-scoring one in this game in the Allianz.
5:54 And to that point, while I understand what
5:57 Stewie is saying in that he's probably thinking
6:00 that these teams are going to be more aware
6:02 defensively because they know that that little bad decision here,
6:06 that little bad step here cost you a goal a week ago.
6:11 I don't think they have it in them
6:13 to speculate defensively or to speculate with the result,
6:16 or to speculate with possession.
6:19 These are teams that want to get up and go.
6:21 They want to go and attack.
6:22 They want to get on the front foot.
6:23 They want to be the ones that dictate how the game is going to play.
6:26 And eventually, because this is a game of turnovers,
6:29 somebody loses the ball in a bad area,
6:31 and you're catching somebody out of position,
6:33 and now it's Elisa running, or it's Luis Diaz running,
6:35 or it's Dembélé running, or it's Doué running,
6:38 and it's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this way,
6:39 and you're thinking each of these players, unlike today,
6:43 for example, each of these players can hurt you individually.
6:48 So, yeah, I don't believe that there's going to be
6:51 a whole lot more defending that there was last week.
6:55 There There may be slightly better position to start off with, but in the end,
7:01 once that a turnover happens, they're going to get up and go.
7:04 As for Bayern Munich,
7:05 I'll throw a number that that we were talking about this past weekend.
7:10 We think about the goals that they allowed to Real Madrid.
7:13 We think about the goals that they allowed to PSG.
7:15 Since April 15th, they have played six matches in all competitions,
7:20 and this Bayern Munich team that we consider to be one of the best of Europe,
7:23 potentially the best in Europe, has allowed 16 goals.
7:28 16 goals, and it's not just Real Madrid, it's not just PSG.
7:32 No, no, it's Mainz, and this past weekend is three goals against Heidenheim.
7:37 So, point being, this team hasn't been defending well for a while.
7:43 It's not just against PSG.
7:45 And yet And yet you You know it and you love it.
7:50 Bayern Munich are going to get back.
7:51 you wondered if Vincent Kompany is thinking You know we
7:55 saw the for those that watched the Real Madrid game,
7:57 he put Konrad Laimer to Was it right back or left back
8:02 to to to to to shut down in the second half to shut down Vinícius?
8:06 To shut it well he he he put him Right back.
8:08 He basically put Konrad Laimer on He took Davies
8:12 off and he put Stanisic to the other side.
8:15 Yes, and Laimer
8:16 And then Laimer to right back and he shut down Vinícius Júnior, right?
8:19 He's that kind of player.
8:20 He's really a midfielder.
8:22 Uh but he's a good player, really good player,
8:24 but he he's he can do a real job on somebody if he wants to.
8:28 And he maybe you think to yourself Does Does Vincent Kompany think right,
8:33 do I put like do I do I make a little tweak here?
8:36 Who do I try and do I put him on Vitinha?
8:39 But then you think well I don't just have to worry about Vitinha.
8:43 I've got Neves and one or two others
8:44 and Fabián Ruiz if he plays or whoever it is.
8:46 So but does Vincent Kompany have something up his sleeve
8:49 where he thinks well how do I stop this PSG team?
8:52 How do I negate some of their biggest threat?
8:55 And I I don't think many would disagree
8:56 that Vitinha is the heartbeat of that midfield.
9:00 However, he's not the only one and that that is the problem.
9:03 Or does Vincent Kompany say you know what
9:05 We went toe-to-toe with them the first leg.
9:07 We dominated the possession in the middle of the park.
9:09 We just have to brush up on the defensive
9:11 errors and he's going to go for it that way.
9:14 Uh so he does have some options,
9:16 but trying to I mean try to stop both teams is difficult,
9:18 but try to stop this PSG midfield in the way they operate it is not easy.
9:22 Considering what we saw in the first leg,
9:24 Jürgen, as a coach once this game kicks off,
9:26 how much of an impact can Luis Enrique and Vincent Kompany actually have?
9:34 I think they will have a huge impact
9:35 because they they give the direction to to both teams and I think you could see
9:39 in the words of Vincent Kompany very clearly says,
9:43 you know, it's it's just about winning.
9:46 He knows that they are far more under pressure to win this game than PSG.
9:51 PSG won this this trophy last year in an incredible manner against Inter Milan.
9:57 They they can actually go far more relaxed into the second leg and say,
10:00 "Okay, if it doesn't work out this year, okay,
10:03 we won it last year." Bayern Munich and for for their fans,
10:09 for their city, they they have to win this trophy this summer.
10:14 So, they are under a lot a lot of pressure in in that way.
10:18 And and and I think that's what Vincent
10:21 meant with saying it's it's just about the result.
10:24 You just need to win this game.
10:25 Doesn't matter really how.
10:26 And there's another kind of little point into this this kind
10:30 of big rivalry now is is the last year's game in the well,
10:35 in the Club World Cup in Atlanta where, you know,
10:38 the the accident happened between Donnarumma unfortunately with with Musiala.
10:42 I was at that game and and that game was
10:44 controlled by Bayern Munich until that injury right before half time,
10:49 you know, and and this is this is a little bit still up in the air.
10:52 So, there is so much hunger that I mentioned before on Bayern Munich's side
10:56 that they they they have to figure out a way to beat them tomorrow.
11:00 It's it's it's a must-win for Bayern Munich.
11:03 It's a nice-to-win for PSG if they go through
11:06 and and that gives it even far more energy.
11:09 And let's take a look then at everyone's predictions.
11:10 We already heard that Ali is going for Bayern.
11:13 I would bet I'd bet my house that Jurgen's also going for Bayern.
11:17 Yes, indeed, convincingly as well.
11:21 Shaka has got Bayern to run away with it in extra time.
11:24 Jules has gone for Bayern.
11:26 Oh, Julian, what a Julian,
11:28 what a It's only myself and Craig that are going for PSG.
11:32 Robo, why Bayern?
11:36 Because I think they have got such attacking talent.
11:39 I think they've got players in the wide areas that can go past.
11:41 So have PSG, but I just think they would
11:43 dominate possession in that in the first 20 minutes.
11:45 I think they're going to get an early goal and I think they
11:48 would eventually get grind out the the result for 2-1 in my view.
11:54 And then it will go to extra time
11:55 and penalties and I think Bayern will win on penalties.
11:57 That's that's how I see it, but what Bayern can't do,
12:00 they can't think they've got to win the game in the first
12:02 20 minutes or get back into the game in the first 20 minutes.
12:04 That's when they can lose the game.
12:06 If they allow PSG a couple of chances and they score them,
12:09 that will be the big problem for Bayern.
12:10 Let's not forget that this was 5-2 at one point.
12:13 Mhm.
12:14 The reason I'm picking Bayern is because Bayern
12:17 made it 5-4 and PSG allowed that to happen.
12:20 They would have been in full control of this match if they had
12:24 been able to hang on to the 5-2 or even make it worse,
12:26 which it looked like it was going to be likely outcome.
12:30 They allowed Bayern Munich back
12:31 in this and in allowing Bayern Munich to believe,
12:34 they asked for trouble Bayern advance.
12:36 Welcome to team Thomas, Burley.
12:38 Can I change?
12:40 Can I change?
12:41 Can we change the graphic quickly?
12:44 All will be revealed of course tomorrow.
12:45 Jurgen, thank you very much, mate.
12:47 Much appreciated.
12:48 ESPN FC then will give bring you everything
12:51 you need to know for that second semi-final.
12:53 Of course, the final against Arsenal at stake.
