Parkour down the most extreme Ski Slope: The Streif
Jason Paul
0:00 Take over.
0:02 2.
0:09 20 years of parkour.
0:12 I've done it all.
0:13 I can take some time off instead of dreams.
0:15 Just memes.
0:18 Wait a minute.
0:20 What are these guys up to?
0:22 The Han come.
0:23 Ah, that's the most dangerous ski race in the world at the famous strife.
0:34 Huh?
0:35 I got an idea.
0:38 My own trick.
0:39 Parkour on the strife.
0:41 I do have a particular set [music] of skills and skiing is not one of them.
0:45 But maybe I could work around that.
0:47 Maybe ride on the back of a skier.
0:49 Maybe build a small takeoff to send me into a flip.
0:52 It would be the world's first ski tandem gainer.
0:56 It must feel incredible.
0:57 Like that one time I did park one ice.
1:00 That went amazing.
1:06 Then I started thinking maybe I should just forget about the whole thing.
1:11 But then I met this guy.
1:19 Zabi Mal, a pro- free skier known for taking park skills into the back country.
1:25 With Seb's input and encouragement, things finally clicked and we made a deal.
1:31 If I go to the Schlife and find the right spot for the tandem gainer,
1:34 he'll come and send it with me.
1:36 And so I entered the dangerous world that is the strife.
1:46 I want it all
1:47 right now.
1:48 Thanks for the ride.
1:50 Up to the party.
1:51 Y'all don't want smoke.
1:52 Energize the body.
1:54 Raise up the right now.
1:56 Tell me who you are.
1:57 Get in the car right now.
1:59 I want it all right now.
2:01 Tell me who you are.
2:02 Get in the car right now.
2:04 For the stars.
2:04 I want it all right now.
2:06 Tell me who you are in the car right now.
2:09 [music] I win it all right now.
2:14 There we go.
2:19 Okay, that was fun for a second, but this this is serious.
2:23 This is ice.
2:24 This is steep.
2:26 This is dangerous.
2:27 So, we're now going to work our way down
2:29 and check out some of these legendary areas to find
2:32 the place if there is a place because right now
2:36 this turned from like parkour to survival from here on out.
2:42 All right.
2:43 So now we are right below the start of the strife where skiers already reach
2:47 speeds up to 100 km an hour which is illegal on most highways around the world.
2:51 And then they enter the mausala which [music] includes
2:54 a jump that sends you about 80 m downhill.
2:57 So I'm a little bit intimidated right now.
2:59 I still want to check it out as a potential spot for a tandem ski gainer.
3:03 I'm going to do it from the side.
3:04 Let's go to the viewing platform.
3:11 Looks a bit like a parkour spot if you ask me.
3:16 Are we?
3:17 Well, I heard a lot of talk about things that you can do.
3:21 You think nobody else can do it half as good as you.
3:24 They [music] tell me that you shake that thing.
3:27 Well, I just want to know.
3:32 Are you ready?
3:34 [music] Are you ready?
3:38 Oh, I'm so glad that went well.
3:40 [panting] Mafala, from my experience,
3:44 it's like getting out of a car while you're riding on a highway.
3:49 [snorts] We're going to keep looking at the next spot a little further downhill.
3:53 Stylan, [music] we made it to the dangerous Stylhan,
4:03 which literally translates to steep slope.
4:06 And at the bottom of this 85° grade steep steep [music] steep slope,
4:11 they put a very sharp turn.
4:12 What a great idea.
4:13 And on skis, it's hard enough to make that turn.
4:16 Without skis, there's no way I'm going to make that turn.
4:18 So, I'm going to slam into the bottom.
4:19 As far as I know, nobody was ever brave enough to attempt.
4:22 So, I'm going to be the human guinea pig for today.
4:25 Wonderful.
4:25 Let's see what happens.
4:39 It was such a long slide.
4:41 There was so many [laughter] so many emotions.
4:44 I was like, "This is good." Then I was like,
4:47 "This is scary." I'm like, "No, now it's good again.
4:50 Now I know it's really scary again." And I'm like, "Oh,
4:52 no." And then the the wall at the end came really quick.
4:55 I was like, "I still have some room to like put on the brakes." And I was like,
4:57 "No, I don't." They just slammed into it.
5:00 It was okay though.
5:01 This is tested.
5:03 Does a good job.
5:05 Would I flip into it off of a skier?
5:10 Maybe.
5:11 Let's keep looking.
5:11 Maybe we find something a little better.
5:20 Wow.
5:21 Okay.
5:22 This [music] right here is the houseback hunter.
5:25 If you're a skier, you know this as one
5:27 [music] of the most dangerous jumps in the sport.
5:30 You fly down here at about 3 and 1/2 g.
5:32 Let's have a closer look.
5:37 I mean, this looks pretty great.
5:39 I'm [music] not going to be quite as fast as the skiers.
5:41 So, we're going to modify the setup a little
5:43 bit with a ramp to give me the air time.
5:45 Then, we're going to need Zeie.
5:47 I'm going to call him right now so he can come over here.
5:49 We're going to get some practice runs in later today, and then we will return.
5:53 It's going to happen.
5:56 when I'm here.
5:58 Okay, let's do a flip.
5:59 And we're getting here.
6:01 Sorry.
6:04 Wait.
6:07 It's really hard for me to stay on the ski.
6:09 So, I think we have to find a way to kind of lock into the skis.
6:15 [music] Yeah.
6:27 [music] A
6:30 lot of traffic today.
6:31 A lot of traffic.
6:38 All right.
6:38 Come on.
6:39 That felt good.
6:42 Woo.
6:44 What do you think of this bad boy?
6:45 It's a bit hanging to the left, I feel like, but I'm not sure.
6:49 And it's fully flat.
6:51 It's going downhill.
6:52 Eh, I wonder if it's going to get scary doing it.
6:55 I don't need to wonder.
6:56 It's going to be scary.
6:57 It's going to be scary.
6:58 It's already scary.
7:02 Awesome, man.
7:10 [music] Yeah, I don't really know what happened.
7:20 We will see.
7:20 I'll try another one.
7:32 You turned around.
7:32 You were like, "How was your flip?" I was like, "Uh,
7:36 there was no flip." Don't be so happy when this is done.
7:45 [music] It's kind of tricky.
7:51 Usually with a trick,
7:52 you [music] know exactly what went wrong and you know what to change.
7:55 But with this, it's fail.
7:57 Right now, it's kind of tricky.
7:59 I'm like, was I just scared and that's why I didn't go?
8:02 Was it my technique?
8:03 I think my best theory is that because it's downhill,
8:06 I have to lead more forwards than I'm used
8:07 to and that will give me the push I need.
8:10 But, um, and we're working with very little data here, learning on the job.
8:17 Let's go.
8:39 Come on.
8:42 Fight it.
8:47 [music] All right, but now for real.
9:00 I deserve [music] some time off.
9:02 Just enjoy for once.
9:03 No jumping around.
