English by Jay - Sprout

0:00 I am in the train station.

0:01 Today we're traveling to Busousan and we

0:04 will learn lots of English along the journey.

0:06 I am standing on the platform which is the place that you wait for your trains.

0:12 And to my right there are the tracks.

0:15 These are the lines that the train runs on.

0:18 Each section of the train is called the carriage or the car.

0:23 Now time to get on the train.

0:29 [music] [music] We've just arrived at the hotel and what a view.

0:47 In the distance, I can see huge ships on the horizon.

0:55 There is a statue of a whale in the water.

0:58 And there are lots of white birds.

1:00 These white birds are called seagulls.

1:04 Ooh, there's also a lighthouse.

1:10 There are people walking along the beach.

1:14 Cool.

1:14 Let's go [music] down to take a closer look at everything and explore this area.

1:32 [music] So, we are in Gamion Culture Village,

1:40 which is a giant village full of colorful houses, cute little alleyways,

1:45 and right now we are on the viewpoint looking over the view.

1:50 We're going to go in, check it out.

1:52 The sun is setting, so everything is beautiful.

1:55 Let's go see inside.

1:57 There's lots of art and colorful things.

2:03 [snorts] I'm walking down the steps and through the wooden gates.

2:08 Can't close that.

2:10 [panting] We're walking down a small alley.

2:14 And this is actually a corrugated [music] roof.

2:19 It's made of metal and corrugated means it has wavy lines

2:24 or ridges so the rain can run off and drain out.

2:29 These stairs are pastel pink and this wall is pastel green.

2:34 Pastel is a lighter version of a color.

2:38 It has more white in it.

2:40 It's more pale just like my skin.

2:47 You'll notice, guys, I have fewer layers on.

2:50 I'm not as uh wrapped up because it's warmer here in Busousan, which is nice.

2:59 This is a mural, which is wall art, and it's a mural of the little prince,

3:05 which is a book that I read in my French class actually.

3:08 And this phrase means you will be uniquely [music]

3:14 mine in the worlds and I will be uniquely yours.

3:17 It's a beautiful book and if you haven't read it, [music] I would recommend it.

3:36 Okay, this is a truck.

3:39 On the back of the truck, there are vegetables, sweet potatoes,

3:44 and there is a voice coming out of a speaker, a loud speaker.

3:52 It's obviously selling fruit and vegetables.

3:55 DIY.

3:56 DIY stands for do it yourself and it refers to jobs

4:01 that you do at home like hanging up a painting.

4:05 Do it yourself.

4:10 We have lots of little [music] toys and figures outside this shop.

4:16 And it's a to [music] where is to grandmother's memory.

4:26 [music] Oh, so this is [music] kind of like fun and unusual.

4:35 This place, a great a great word we [music]

4:39 can use to describe something fun and unusual is quirky.

4:43 I am a little bit quirky as well.

4:46 I'll try not to fall over again.

4:50 [music] And it's very hilly this area.

4:57 Hilly means it has lots of hills and we can use it as an adjective.

5:02 [panting] This area is very hilly.

5:09 Go through here.

5:12 Wow.

5:16 This really is quirky.

5:17 It's very unusual.

5:20 There aren't many places in the world that you see colorful houses like this.

5:24 And lots of hills, [music] winding alleys, beautiful sunlight.

5:30 [music] I mean, look at that.

5:34 Good word to describe a view.

5:36 Stunning.

5:38 Can describe a view, person, or food.

5:43 That is stunning.

5:43 [music] Oh, hello.

5:54 Wow.

5:58 Up there there is a woman painting the wall yellow.

6:03 She's painting the wall yellow with a giant paint roller.

6:07 Now it's time.

6:09 It's time.

6:12 for a photo shoot.

6:17 It's chilly.

6:18 In this picture, a blonde man wearing a white puffer

6:21 jacket is looking into the distance at the colorful houses.

6:26 In this picture, Chang is walking uphill,

6:30 holding a handbag, and looking towards the sun.

6:34 Behind me is Gamchon Culture Village.

6:38 A village built on a hill

6:41 with loads [snorts] of colorful houses clustered together.

6:45 Clustered means they are all very close together.

6:49 You can see the rooftops of the houses.

6:52 And right now the sun is setting.

6:56 It's dipping behind the hill and everything looks pretty.

7:01 Where's your gloves?

7:02 My gloves.

7:03 They're in my pocket.

7:05 Yeah, my gloves.

7:06 I'm putting on my gloves now because I'm chilly.

7:09 Chilly means slightly cold.

7:11 I'm not freezing.

7:12 That means very cold.

7:13 I'm just a bit chilly.

7:15 Bit nippy, actually.

7:17 We say nippy in the UK.

7:19 That's better.

7:20 Feeling good.

7:21 Um, I want a drink.

7:22 Some hot drink.

7:24 I don't know.

7:24 Let's go find one.

7:26 A pink house.

7:27 Just what I've always wanted.

7:35 Well, when I said, "Let's grab a drink," I didn't expect this.

7:39 This [snorts] is about the most feminine drink I've ever had in my life, Barbie.

7:45 I ordered a pink smoothie.

7:47 I don't know what I expected, to be honest.

7:49 Um, [laughter] it's even got sprinkles on.

7:51 Good word [snorts] for you guys.

7:53 These are sprinkles.

7:57 Colorful sweet things on top of the drink.

8:00 sprinkles.

8:01 This is extremely feminine.

8:02 I'm not sure I can drink it.

8:05 I can and I will.

8:06 Thankfully, I asked for it with no sugar,

8:08 but it looks like it's got a lot of sugar in still.

8:16 It's all right.

8:17 Tastes [snorts] like strawberry and yogurt.

8:20 I've just been beaten to my knees.

8:22 I've just got brain freeze.

8:24 Brain freeze is when you eat too much ice cream

8:27 or drink something really cold and your head really hurts.

8:31 We call that a brain freeze and it's literally taking me down to the floor.

8:38 The cat a friendly cat.

8:41 She's meowing.

8:46 And this is a caricature shop.

8:48 A caricature is a cartoon drawing of a person

8:54 or an animal where the facial features are exaggerated.

8:58 So they might do you with a massive nose or big ears.

9:06 [music] This is a very famous restaurant apparently

9:11 and people have left their reviews on Bunting.

9:15 This is bunting.

9:17 And they've left them with these colorful pens.

9:23 And these pens are in a pot.

9:25 There are pots and books on the shelf.

9:28 And generally pens, pencils, rulers, rubbers.

9:33 We call that stationery.

9:35 Stationary.

9:41 Okay.

9:43 Here.

9:41 Yeah.

9:42 There, please.

9:43 Thank you.

9:45 And then we got mine be soup.

9:50 Thank you so much.

9:51 This is a sword.

9:52 A little sort of delicious.

9:54 Okay.

9:55 Thank you so much.

9:57 Oh, lovely.

9:58 So, here we have the beef soup, the dumplings,

10:07 and you can see the steam rising off the food.

10:11 It's steaming hot, we can say.

10:14 This soup is steaming hot.

10:19 I'm just going to burn my mouth.

10:24 Oh yeah.

10:42 Okay.

10:43 [laughter] All right, here we go.

10:46 Transparent floor.

10:46 Transparent floor.

10:48 You can see you can see through the glass floor and we call that transparent.

10:55 And they gave us some lollipops.

10:57 I don't know why, but um maybe so you

11:00 can have a suck [laughter] while you watch the view.

11:04 This is cool.

11:05 Flying through the sky.

11:07 First night in Busousan.

11:08 I'm about to suck on a lollipop.

11:11 And our hotel is just over there in the bay.

11:15 It's very pretty.

11:17 You can see a skywalk down there, which we're going to go on tomorrow.

11:22 Um, first impressions of Busousan, very enjoyable,

11:26 great food, cool place, nice beach town.

11:31 Hopefully we don't fall in the ocean.

11:33 You can see the cityscape.

11:36 Cool word.

11:38 the buildings, the streets, the lights.

11:41 The cityscape is [snorts] basically the urban version of a landscape.

12:04 Heat.

12:05 Heat.

12:16 [music] [music] [music]

12:37 Good morning, world.

12:39 It's day two in Busousan.

12:41 The sun is shining.

12:42 It's a gorgeous day.

12:43 And we have found a very cute coffee shop.

12:46 So, we're going to get some brunch now.

12:49 Breakfast, lunch, brunch.

12:59 [music] [music] Hello.

13:05 [clears throat] [laughter] [music] So pretty in here.

13:19 Just chilling next to the plants.

13:22 And this place is beautiful.

13:25 Chang just ordered eggs in hell,

13:29 which is like eggs and tomato sauce with sourdough bread.

13:33 I ordered a hummus bowl.

13:36 Hummus is mashed chickpeas.

13:40 And then we got two coffees.

13:42 And then after we I'm going to show you guys around.

13:45 They have a very cute dog as well, which is nice.

13:49 Thank you.

13:52 there.

13:53 So, breakfast has arrived and not only does it look delicious,

13:57 but there's also some delicious English right now.

14:01 This is a coffee in a glass and it sits on a saucer.

14:07 This is a saucer.

14:10 I have cutlery to eat my food.

14:13 A knife, a fork, and a spoon.

14:16 Cutlery.

14:18 I've ordered a hummus bowl.

14:20 There is half an avocado, homemade sourdough bread,

14:26 hummus with pistachio nuts and olive oil on.

14:31 And then a lovely green salad with kale,

14:34 lettuce, grapes, dill, radish, and walnuts.

14:39 We have some sourdough bread in a metal dish to dip into Chang's dish,

14:47 which is a tomato sauce with broccoli and cheese on top.

14:54 There are also some eggs inside.

14:56 And this is very hot.

14:58 I can't touch this.

15:00 This is called a cast [music] iron dish.

15:03 A cast iron dish.

15:04 Iron is metal and it's the material that it's made from.

15:07 And finally, a bottle of Tabasco.

15:10 Cheers, guys.

15:13 A person who makes [music] coffees is called a barista.

15:17 A person who serves you food is called [music] a waiter if it's a male.

15:23 And a waitress if it's a female.

15:40 Be kind.

15:41 Eat good food.

15:43 Smile a lot.

15:44 Pet the dog.

15:46 Be you.

15:47 Say thank you.

15:50 The Bbles are hanging by the window.

15:54 Watching the view.

15:59 [music] The wine bottles are wearing woolly hats.

16:04 The washing is hanging on the washing line.

16:10 It's a sunny day and in the distance the bridge

16:15 stretches from one side of the river to the other.

16:17 [music] There is more washing hanging from the washing line.

16:24 And there is a kettle [music] bell on the floor.

16:27 So maybe the person who hung these clothes liked to work out while they waited.

16:34 I love this [music] place.

16:35 They pay close attention to detail,

16:38 which means every little detail is [music] well thought of, well thought about.

16:43 They have the bookshelves, the quotes on the wall,

16:46 good [music] music, the wooden ceiling fans,

16:50 the large lamp [music] shades, great furniture, great decoration,

16:57 [music] and it's a really warm, cozy, light, bright feeling in here.

17:03 It's lovely.

17:05 If you ever come to Busousan, I [music] would highly recommend this place.

17:08 Koshi.

17:19 [music]

17:33 We just got out the taxi and about to head to the museum.

17:37 But look at this place.

17:38 It's very cool.

17:39 What do I see?

17:42 I see very big ships.

17:46 That red thing is a crane and it's used for lifting very heavy things.

17:54 There are giant rubber tires on the edge of the ship and big thick ropes.

18:03 So, you would call this place a port.

18:06 A port is a place where ships come and go.

18:11 It's different to a dock.

18:12 A dock is like a car park for ships.

18:15 A dock is a place where ships rest.

18:17 But this is an industrial port.

18:20 And that is a giant yacht suspended in the air.

18:25 Let's go.

18:27 So, we are going to the art museum.

18:32 Eternal nature.

18:34 Eternal means living forever.

18:39 Chang is inserting the card into the slot, clicking next, and paying 38,1.

18:48 The ticket is printing.

18:51 Now the ticket has printed.

18:57 Jack's taking the card and let's go.

19:10 The infinite circle behind And the floor was made of mirrors,

19:35 so it made you feel like you were in a giant waterfall.

19:42 This room was Chang's favorite because she loves the smell of roses.

19:47 Uh, it's super sweet.

19:48 The sound was amazing and the light was unreal.

19:53 These are sunflowers and they are slowly fading into a rose.

20:01 These liies are also fading into roses.

20:08 There are pink petals on the black floor.

20:15 These flowers are transforming [music] from dead to alive, colorful, and bright.

20:26 [music]

20:25 There was a piano, so I had to go and tinkle around, improvise, play some keys.

20:41 [music] The next room was a tornado room.

20:55 A tornado is a strong whirlwind.

21:31 Heavy rain.

21:45 This room was trippy.

22:31 This room had to be my favorite of the entire museum.

22:34 him.

22:35 They were playing CLA DeLoon while showing us Vang Go's artwork.

22:42 This was probably the best museum I've ever been to [music] in my life.

22:48 It was full of light shows and digital art.

22:56 It was pretty special.

23:03 [music] [music] There is a UFO flying across the screen

23:20 and a manta ray floating above Busousan's cultural village.

23:34 Everyone is Hello.

23:40 Hello.

23:40 We just had the most amazing experience in the art

23:42 museum and just been in the gift shop.

23:45 There you go.

23:46 And now in a photo booth.

23:48 Standard procedure.

23:49 Photos in 3 2 1.

23:57 [laughter] Okay, we got another one.

24:01 [clears throat] Let's see the result.

24:03 3 2 1 Cute.

24:13 [music] We just had the most wonderful time at the museum.

24:18 It was really immersive,

24:21 meaning the light and the sounds and the smells really immersed you.

24:26 It gave you a powerful feeling.

24:28 And now we're in another cultural village.

24:33 It feels like Greece or something here.

24:36 Apparently, there's loads of artwork in this area and it's right by the coast.

24:40 So, the plan is to look at the art, find a cafe,

24:45 drink some nice coffee, and then I've got a YouTube live stream.

24:49 So, this will be me in the future.

24:50 I will have done that YouTube live stream in in a few weeks time.

24:54 Um, that's the plan for now.

24:56 Tonight, get dinner and continue to explore the lovely Busousan.

25:01 Let's go.

25:05 And look at this, guys.

25:06 It's printing on blocks of wood, printing images,

25:12 printing pictures on a block of wood.

25:16 And that mechanism is going back and forth, left and right.

25:33 Philadelphia cheese ice cream.

25:36 Ordering an ice cream.

25:37 Of course, it's just about warm enough.

25:42 Be right back.

25:45 [music] It's vanilla ice cream with melted chocolate on top.

25:53 And the chocolate solidifies, meaning it hardens.

25:58 It goes from melted to solid.

26:02 Ice cream.

26:04 Ice cream in a tub.

26:07 We call this a tub.

26:08 Small tub.

26:10 Different than a cone.

26:12 Yeah.

26:13 A cone is a triangle one that is made of wafer and you eat it.

26:17 This is a tub.

26:19 Ice cream in a tub or ice cream in a cone.

26:22 This one's a tub.

26:28 We just stopped to get some stickers for the fridge,

26:33 some fridge magnets for decorating our fridge back home.

26:38 And the best thing ever.

26:44 Had to come back for this.

26:47 It's Mario in a tux tuxedo and Peach.

26:52 So that's going to take pride of place on a shelf in our house.

26:57 Cool.

26:58 And this is a gift shop.

27:03 This is a sign for a cafe.

27:06 On the sign, it has Korean writing and an image

27:13 of a champagne glass or a champagne flute.

27:17 This is another cocktail glass.

27:22 You okay there?

27:24 Do you want to hand me something?

27:25 All right, guys.

27:26 [laughter] We're going up some very, very steep stairs.

27:30 Steep means it's whoop.

27:32 You all right there, Ch?

27:33 You want me to grab the camera?

27:38 I feel like I'm pulling you up a mountain.

27:41 There we go.

27:42 Steep stairs to the probably too bright view for you, but that looks incredible.

27:49 I'm just about to hop onto the YouTube [music] live stream.

27:52 So, I'll see you there.

27:54 Or maybe in the future I will have [music] seen you

27:57 there and I'll be doing more regular live streams on YouTube.

28:01 I want to make it useful for you guys

28:03 and [music] to interact with you in real time.

28:06 On top of that, I have my English platform [music] Sprout

28:11 and on Sprout I will be doing four group [music] classes per month.

28:17 So, we'll have a live interaction, you [music] and me,

28:22 and actually be able to chat together.

28:25 So, if you sign up for [music] the super subscription,

28:28 then you get access to four group classes per month,

28:32 which at $10, that's $2.50 per group class.

28:36 It's a bloody steal.

28:38 I hope you get benefit from these, and if not, I'll see you on the YouTube ones.

28:51 We just left the cafe and look how cute these alleys are.

28:54 The sunlight is shining on the bricks and making them a really vibrant orange.

29:01 Here we have the plants outside somebody's house.

29:06 A green ladder or some steps leading up to a platform.

29:10 And this house is the white and blue.

29:13 It really looks like Greece.

29:15 And there's a mysterious woman.

29:18 This is a map and it's showing us where we

29:21 are and all the different sites and locations like cafes,

29:26 restaurants, and places to walk.

29:31 What's Chang found?

29:34 She's looking at [panting] a metal grate with padlocks.

29:41 People have declared their love for each other with these padlocks

29:45 just like the ones we saw and saw [panting] a wheelbarrow classic.

29:54 Remember, wherever you are in the world, have a nice day.

30:05 What does it say?

30:06 Keep your voice down.

30:07 All right, I need to keep my voice down.

30:11 Okay, we got our first artwork.

30:13 There is a shark sticking out his pink tongue

30:17 holding a coconut and smiling in a seedy way.

30:22 He's wearing a sailor's hat or a captain's hat.

30:26 Very cool.

30:27 And when artwork is painted on the wall like this, we call it a mural.

30:32 And this one is a picture of a dolphin wearing a Hawaiian shirt.

30:37 There are flamingos on his shirt.

30:41 He's holding a cocktail with a lime wedge in.

30:48 Ah, it's a little kitty cat.

30:53 Hello.

30:53 Look, guys.

30:55 We got a sleepy kitty that is chilling.

30:58 [music] There is a cat bathing, enjoying this sunset.

31:10 Look how [music] beautiful this is.

31:15 That means incredible in French.

31:20 A very [music] pink door.

31:23 And up here we have some [music] parasolles to stop the sun,

31:28 to shade you from the sun.

31:29 And a sign.

31:34 [music] And look who's here.

31:38 It's Santa.

31:39 Here, [laughter] Santa is climbing up a ladder,

31:44 either trying to burgle the place to rob them or give them presents.

31:48 Ho ho ho ho.

31:50 Merry Christmas style.

31:55 A purple hat.

32:00 That is the coolest restroom I've ever seen.

32:03 A restroom is a toilet or a bathroom.

32:08 And it's beautifully designed with mosaic stones.

32:15 Mosaic stones are lots of different pieces of porcelain

32:22 stuck together in this jagged uneven pattern.

32:28 And there, hello, you can see me in the mirror.

32:36 [music] Incredible, isn't it?

32:45 Oh, it's a it's a swinging bench.

32:46 [music] Do you want to sit in it?

32:56 [music] Get a lot of that.

33:10 [music] hit my funny bone.

33:19 Your funny bone is that, well, it's not even a bone.

33:22 It's a nerve in your elbow.

33:24 And when you bash your elbow and it's really painful,

33:27 we call that our funny bone.

33:29 And I just hit mine.

33:31 Anyway, get one of you guys.

33:34 I'll get you in the sun with a nice backdrop

33:36 because actually it's Chang I'm taking a photo of we go.

33:43 Cheese.

33:44 Kimchi.

33:48 The sun is setting.

33:49 [music] The sky is red.

33:51 And the final word of the day is a verb.

33:55 The [music] sun is glowing.

33:57 Glowing means giving off a soft light.

34:01 The glowing sun is setting [music] behind the mountain.

34:06 Thank you for watching.

34:07 I hope you learned lots of English and [music]

34:08 I will see you guys in the next episode.

34:16 You can actually just stare at it as well.

34:21 I'm grateful for you.

34:22 If you're still watching this video, thank you.

34:26 You're a legend.

34:27 and I appreciate you.

34:29 I wanted to take this time to sit down

34:32 and talk with you about my new English learning platform, Sprou.

34:37 And I want to share all the value that you can have on Sprouts.

34:41 So, we just released a new feature which is JI.

34:45 It's an AI version of me that you can talk with to improve your English.

34:51 Now, why is this better than talking with chat GBT?

34:55 Well, on Sprout, you can watch a video at your level, whether that's A1 or C1.

35:02 And then after you watch that video, you can speak with JI about that video.

35:09 He will ask you questions about what happened in the video,

35:12 what you think about the video, what words you learned in the video.

35:17 And through this, you will be practicing your speaking, your outputs.

35:23 You're also practicing listening, learning through comprehensible inputs.

35:28 On Sprout, we have thousands of videos and they are all designed

35:34 to help you become fluent in English

35:36 through the listening process, through immersion.

35:41 I've designed it in a way that I want it to be

35:44 this all-in-one platform for you to be able to become fluent in English,

35:51 for you to be able to practice all things, listening,

35:53 speaking, writing, building vocabulary, and this is only just the beginning.

35:59 I'm really excited about what Sprout will continue to grow and evolve into.

36:04 And I really hope that you're there with me on this journey.

36:07 I want to be able to grow myself and I want

36:10 to give you the platform to be able to grow your English too.

36:14 So I appreciate all your support and you can check out Sprouts.

36:18 There is one week free.

36:20 Try out super.

36:21 Let me know what you think of JI and thank you.

36:25 Take care.

36:26 Have a lovely day.

36:27 Bye-bye.
