Aaron Rodgers Reportedly Meeting With Steelers, "Likely Will Return In 2026"
The Pat McAfee Show
0:00 Maybe the greatest quarterback of all time that's ever thrown a football.
0:03 Aaron Rodgers.
0:05 Yep.
0:05 Oh, I don't know if Aaron Rodgers could be number two there.
0:08 Yeah, I love that right there.
0:09 I don't I love Aaron, too.
0:10 He the goat.
0:11 He is not the goat.
0:13 What's going on?
0:15 [laughter]
0:15 Aaron's the goat.
0:16 Whatever it is.
0:17 Aaron's the goat and he's maybe back to lead a Super Bowl.
0:20 Okay, well,
0:21 For who?
0:23 [laughter]
0:22 Yo, I I like that.
0:23 I like that.
0:24 You know, you heard what he's been like over the last since the draft?
0:27 have it.
0:28 I have it.
0:28 Okay, since the draft, he has sat in that seat,
0:30 right there, with that microphone right in front of you,
0:32 and said, "Aaron Rodgers needs to get the hell
0:34 out of Pittsburgh." That is That is what he said.
0:36 Yes.
0:37 It's not what I said.
0:37 He has said numerous times Is he a friend of the show?
0:40 Yes, HE'S A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE.
0:41 NOT ANYMORE.
0:42 LIKE LIKE you Like Like you just said,
0:44 the media construed Taken my words [laughter] and construed
0:48 them in a way I just said that, you know,
0:51 I love that he's sitting back and let Will Howard get some reps
0:54 to make him progress as a quarterback maybe the future of the Steelers.
0:58 I like that he wants to know if the refs
1:00 are going to be real refs for the season,
1:01 cuz he's the one who can back and play with Jabroni refs.
1:04 Um you know, maybe Maybe I'd like that he
1:07 was waiting for the next pandemic to come back, okay?
1:09 And he needed to come back and do that.
1:11 But, no, I mean, this guy deserved to take He's 22 years,
1:15 four-time MVP, Super Bowl winner.
1:17 He deserved to take some time, okay?
1:19 Wow.
1:19 This is unbelievable hearing this come out of your mouth.
1:22 This is crazy, isn't it, AJ?
1:24 It's like what It's like it's
1:24 a completely different person sitting over there now.
1:26 Yeah, really changed a tune, if you will.
1:29 We heard I don't know what you guys are doing, trying to do.
1:32 Sounds Sounds like you're backpedaling right now.
1:33 Feels like you're playing a little defense here.
1:35 That's You know that's not me.
1:36 And why is that?
1:37 Well, there's a lot of reports coming out of Pittsburgh, okay?
1:39 Mixed reports.
1:40 Mixed reports.
1:40 Dorin Dickerson, morning radio show,
1:42 former Pitt football player, NFL football player,
1:44 stud, legend, cool guy, Dorin Dickerson,
1:47 has stayed around Pittsburgh and does media.
1:50 He reported this morning that Aaron Rodgers was going to be
1:52 traveling to Pittsburgh to kind of get it all sorted out.
1:55 Shout out to Dorin doing that.
1:56 Shout out to 93.7 The Fan.
1:58 Used to be B94.
1:59 Yeah, sick.
2:00 B94.
2:01 Don Dave and Bubba Shelly.
2:02 They're so good.
2:03 I mean, just playing the hits.
2:05 Just top up.
2:05 Hell yeah.
2:06 Just top of all time.
2:07 Man, you know, so many good times with B94.
2:09 Now it's 93.7 The Fan because sports are
2:11 really the only thing they carry anything anymore.
2:13 Shout out to Dorin doing that.
2:14 He reported, hey, his source says found out
2:17 that Maron was coming in doing the entire deal.
2:20 Then, there was a counter report coming saying, well, if that's happening,
2:23 nobody told Steelers from Mark Kaboly,
2:25 who has been reporting for the Steelers for a long time.
2:28 He is by title our Steelers correspondent.
2:31 Yes, he is.
2:32 By title.
2:33 He is our We're in constant communication.
2:35 [laughter] We talk to him every morning.
2:37 We love Mark.
2:39 We love Mark doing his thing.
2:40 I'm pretty hands-off leader.
2:41 I'm pretty hands-off.
2:42 Mark just kind of does his thing.
2:43 I'm thankful he's still doing his thing.
2:44 He said, Steelers have no idea what you're talking about.
2:46 So, then there's a little bit of a whoa,
2:47 whoa, whoa, Aaron Rodgers stuff happening.
2:50 Then Ian Rapoport comes out and goes, actually, Aaron Rodgers,
2:54 who is expected to visit the Steelers Friday and this week,
2:56 and will likely play for them in 2026.
2:58 A deal is not done and there is always caution until things are signed,
3:01 but Rodgers' plan is to play for Pittsburgh
3:03 and these are the steps towards that end.
3:05 Okay, so that was after it was like kind of re- rebutted,
3:08 I guess, and then he comes out and says that.
3:10 What it sounds like, especially if Rapoport's reporting this, is
3:14 that Aaron's going over Pittsburgh tomorrow.
3:16 Mhm.
3:16 Sounds like he's probably doing what everybody
3:19 in the Steelers organization seemingly has expected,
3:21 which is come back and play.
3:23 And now Town Diggs, AJ, the Yinzer Steeler die-hard fan,
3:27 has to walk back everything he has said since
3:30 the draft as he was just echoing the Yinzer statement.
3:34 Well said, Patrick.
3:34 Okay, is what he was saying.
3:37 But with that being the case, it's like, Yinzers,
3:39 we're getting sick and tired of waiting around and being held hostage, I think.
3:42 That's kind of like, hey, we're the Pittsburgh Steelers here.
3:44 If this guy doesn't want to play for us, what are we doing?
3:46 Last year, he's never been in the building, never been with the guy.
3:48 Cool.
3:49 This year, he's been in the building.
3:50 He knows the head coach.
3:51 He knows a lot of the people in there.
3:53 He knows exactly what's going to be like.
3:54 We're Pittsburgh Steelers.
3:55 Can you Can you at least have a little bit of respect for who we are?
3:58 That is how Yinzers started feeling, okay?
4:00 We, I think multiple times have mentioned,
4:02 this guy's committed his whole life to football.
4:04 It's probably a pretty big-time decision on whether or not he wants to do it.
4:06 Now it sounds like we're getting closer to a resolution,
4:09 and I think Yinzers fans, just like Tone,
4:11 will do exactly what Tone did, which is like, "He was the best option all along.
4:15 We'll hire him for another year." I I think that's how it'll go.
4:17 You think Aaron understands that?
4:18 And what do you think the validity of all this is, AJ?
4:21 Yeah, I do wonder what the validity is,
4:22 and it it sounds like they whether Aaron is in town he's coming in town soon.
4:26 They They act like he's going to sign at some point here in the near future,
4:29 whatever that means.
4:30 Like near future what is that?
4:32 3 weeks?
4:32 4 weeks?
4:33 I don't know.
4:34 This weekend, yeah, who knows.
4:35 Yeah, I mean maybe, yeah.
4:36 There's There's no telling what could happen.
4:38 I would I would hate if anyone took you know,
4:40 all of Tone's takes about this are on camera and recorded somewhere.
4:44 I would hate if someone cut those together, you know,
4:45 made a little mashup of Tone flip-flopping on this whole situation.
4:49 That would That would not do well for for Tone, I feel like.
4:52 But, if Aaron comes back and he wins games,
4:54 and they take him on a deep playoff run,
4:56 no one no one cares, and none of them no one remembers this.
4:58 Big deal.
4:58 We do have to act accordingly though, and what Tone was trying to tell you,
5:02 Tyrese, about your words being taken out of context and misconstrued,
5:06 what the video that AJ is kind of encouraging somebody to put together to make,
5:10 it would not be like that at all.
5:11 No.
5:12 I mean, he was rude to Aaron Rodgers.
5:14 I mean, it was just Bar for bar.
5:15 Aaron Rodgers, why did you do that?
5:17 It was If AJ thinks that would be bad for my character,
5:19 he's got another thing coming.
5:20 That'd be great for me.
5:21 Cuz I went on this same merry-go-round last year.
5:23 I did the same hokey pokey pokey dance, okay?
5:26 Oh, really?
5:27 You're doing a polka over there?
5:28 Is that what you're doing?
5:29 was taking his time until July last year, I was doing the same thing.
5:32 If you don't want to play it for us, you don't want to play for us.
5:34 Blah blah blah blah.
5:35 Once you become Once you put your name on that line,
5:38 and you're Yeah, you're wearing black and gold, we're family, brother.
5:42 That's just how it works, [laughter] okay?
5:43 Brothers can fight.
5:44 Brothers can disagree.
5:46 Once we're on the same team, once we're fighting that same war, okay?
5:50 We're together.
5:51 You, professional athlete, need to understand that this is how some humans,
5:54 most humans probably operate actually.
5:56 We're family, brother.
5:58 Yeah.
6:00 [laughter] Aaron Rodgers makes reports he's going to Pittsburgh.
6:03 What do you know?
6:03 Have you known?
6:04 And how do you feel about it all?
6:06 This is the big story of the day.
6:07 Don't feel obligated to give a full diatribe if you've already
6:10 unloaded on this 10 times cuz this seemingly isn't everyday situation.
6:14 But now we get some news he's going this weekend allegedly.
6:17 Allegedly, and 93.7, the local radio station,
6:20 was the first to report that he was in town.
6:23 It seems like Rappaport's confirming it.
6:25 I'll tell you this, speaking of Steelers sources,
6:27 they're there for rookie mini camp today through the end of the weekend.
6:31 And there's no sign of Aaron Rodgers yet.
6:33 So, I think we've learned that we don't start pegging Aaron Rodgers as going
6:37 to do this, going to do that, until Aaron Rodgers does this or does that.
6:41 I have not been on the ground in Pittsburgh.
6:42 I have not seen him flying in, but the local
6:44 radio station and Rappaport has since confirmed it.
6:48 And it's like the Loch Ness Monster to me though.
6:50 I don't I've learned too many times until I see that guy in uniform or on site,
6:54 I'm not putting anything in ink yet.
6:56 I love it cuz remember last year there was
6:58 a disguise in a Toyota Camry or something like that.
7:02 It's the poopy rental car.
7:04 It's really something.
7:05 I mean this is sweet.
7:05 He is a one-of-one type human.
7:08 He is a one-of-one type quarterback.
7:10 And what a situation is over there in Pittsburgh.
7:12 I don't know if you heard Shrek's.
7:14 Tone Diggs has been burying Aaron Rodgers since
7:16 the draft because he talked to a bunch of people
7:17 that have kind of given him the green light to do as such as the injuries feel.
7:20 And then this morning he hears Dorin Dickerson
7:22 on B94 The Fan and he goes, "I love Aaron.
7:25 I'm so happy here." I mean completely flip-flop.
7:27 In the meantime, may may I just say um Tone,
7:32 why are you just so constantly full of LIKE [laughter] WOAH.
7:39 WILD YOU GOT A POINT.
7:42 And an ALS shirt, incredible.
7:44 Now he pivots to something else.
7:47 This guy in the cowboy hat never stops lying.
7:49 kind of in the water where we're from and then
7:52 I'm just naturally a spineless chameleon who will [laughter]
7:56 help you and say whatever whatever is best for me.
7:59 He became a cowboy because he got COVID which who knows what's next potentially.
8:04 He went into a COVID hole isolation.
8:06 He watched Kevin Costner be a cowboy in Montana.
8:09 He came out on the other side [clears throat] and showed up at work
8:11 in a cowboy hat and we've literally never seen him in anything else since then.
8:14 So when you talk about kind of going with the wind,
8:17 Tone is that but he was a good indicator of how
8:18 Pittsburgh felt about Aaron though I think cuz we talked
8:21 to a lot of people that are kind of sick of the waiting
8:23 and allegedly that's going to end this weekend via mixed reports.
8:27 It better.
8:28 But now he's now he's family.
8:29 Now he's family so it's all good.
8:31 Yeah, Jet.
8:31 I mean what what don't you understand?
8:33 [laughter] Just like Rapolla at the Kentucky Derby.
8:34 Hey, I said a lot of bad things about you, okay?
8:37 We're family now.
8:38 Family won today.
8:39 That's what Tone's doing to Aaron.
8:46 [music]
