P.K. Subban says the Toronto Maple Leaf's 'CAN'T' mess up the No. 1 pick 😳 | The Pat McAfee Show

NHL on ESPN

0:00 Wow,

0:00 what a beauty.

0:01 Let's go.

0:04 That the pin strikes.

0:08 Pinstripes.

0:09 Hey, I had to when I was coming in, I had to I had to look the part today.

0:13 Okay, so this is not one of the costumes

0:14 you would wear on super duper hockey night on ESPN,

0:17 but this is one that you would wear whenever you have to look fly.

0:20 Would I have to be a professional?

0:21 Today's a professional day.

0:22 You're incredible uh obviously at what you do.

0:25 Do you you live in New York uh full-time?

0:27 Yes, I'm in New York now full-time.

0:29 Okay.

0:29 Are you in this area of town?

0:30 No, I'm Soho.

0:32 So I'm I'm one of those single guys.

0:34 Yeah.

0:36 One of those single guys just living the dream, you know, down in Soho.

0:39 So I'm loving it.

0:40 You ever been to Carbone Zezy's club?

0:43 You know what?

0:44 I have not been to Is it Cassid Chiprianis on the water?

0:48 Is that what you're talking about?

0:49 Carbone.

0:49 Is that the same or no?

0:50 No.

0:51 It sounds like you don't know what you're No, I'm an Amelio's guy.

0:53 Amelio Bolados.

0:54 That's it's a staple for me.

0:57 Are you friends with Alio?

0:58 Yeah, I am.

0:59 I am friends with him actually.

1:00 Yeah, really close.

1:02 That makes sense.

1:02 One of the first people I met in the city when I came.

1:05 Just a real guy from the city.

1:08 And I don't know, whenever I go to a new city,

1:10 I don't want to meet people that move there.

1:11 I want to meet people that are actually from there,

1:13 that know the city, that can tell me where to actually go.

1:17 Absolutely.

1:16 And it's like, not tourists and stuff.

1:18 So, yeah.

1:19 Shout out to Amelio.

1:20 Yeah.

1:20 Shout out to Amelio, man.

1:22 Everybody that's friends with you is very happy that they're friends with you.

1:24 That that is what I've learned for over

1:25 the last 24 hours being here in New York.

1:27 I've learned of this Amelio man multiple times.

1:30 Everybody that's friends with Amelio says I'm friends

1:32 with Amelio and it's like a big holy[ __] Yeah, that's how everybody views this.

1:37 He's the guy cuz he's just cool.

1:38 He's the coolest.

1:39 He's he's a good dude.

1:40 He's rooted in the city, but he's just down to earth.

1:43 He's going to treat you like everybody else.

1:44 So that's why I think people love to go there.

1:46 I like the local stuff.

1:47 That's why I went to Starbucks this morning.

1:49 You went to Starbucks?

1:50 Okay.

1:50 I still go to Starbucks.

1:51 I'm not going to the local coffee shop in New York.

1:53 I'll go to a Starbucks.

1:54 I felt a little bit like an[ __] Did you?

1:57 Yeah.

1:57 We walked by 14 cafes to Starbucks.

2:00 You walked by all 14 to pay like $35 for what?

2:04 Yeah.

2:04 Hot water and a couple espresso shop.

2:06 Let's call it

2:06 I'm not chirping Starbucks by any means.

2:08 Like I I drank it.

2:09 Yeah, we certainly drank it.

2:10 But I felt like a little bit of an[ __] walking

2:12 by Jack and Dian's and Lucy's and you know the other one Lucy's

2:17 I think it was a cafe I walked by earlier.

2:18 Oh, okay.

2:19 Super hipsters, sweet looking people in there.

2:22 What do they have a cool glass of coffee?

2:23 I said, "Excuse me, I got to get Starbucks." felt like an[ __]

2:26 Okay.

2:26 Well,

2:27 it's kind of Bruce's fault over there.

2:28 You see Bruce?

2:29 Yeah, I see Bruce.

2:30 Which one's Bruce?

2:30 Is Bruce?

2:31 No, Bruce right here.

2:31 Over here.

2:32 Hey, what's up, Bruce?

2:33 What's going on?

2:33 What's up, dude?

2:34 Bruce, why'd you take me to Starbucks instead of one of the local places?

2:37 I I just prefer it to be honest with you.

2:39 A lot of what PK's talking about with super expensive lattes,

2:42 like it's just not really worth it.

2:44 We go to Starbucks, we get what we always get, we keep a move.

2:47 Wait till he takes you to his favorite pizza place, Sabarro.

2:51 You ever been to that?

2:52 You Sparrow?

2:54 No.

2:54 S B A R R O

2:56 Is it

2:57 so good?

2:57 It's New York.

2:58 That's not like a special place.

3:00 That's not like 101.

3:01 The Starbucks is special.

3:04 I mean, it's not Amelio's, of course,

3:06 but Sparrow is very special to a lot of people.

3:10 OKAY.

3:10 GENUINE NEW YORK.

3:11 THE STARBUCKS OF PIZZA.

3:12 BUT my my new my pizza place is not even in Manhattan.

3:16 I got to go out to Brooklyn for this one.

3:18 L& Bees, Simone Gardens.

3:20 I got to get out there.

3:21 You have to get the square slice.

3:24 It's unbelievable.

3:25 So I I drive I drive out there to get it.

3:27 I'm in Brooklyn, Queenville.

3:28 Okay.

3:30 PK and the BK.

3:31 Oh, I like that.

3:33 Okay.

3:32 It's like the Jay Tatum.

3:34 I know.

3:35 We're going to put that one TO BED.

3:36 THE J.

3:38 OKAY.

3:38 ALL RIGHT.

3:38 WE'LL bring it.

3:39 We'll keep it.

3:39 We'll keep it.

3:40 But they're out of the playoffs,

3:41 so now it's not hitting as far, you know, in my mind.

3:43 But the J J eight.

3:49 BOOM.

3:50 LET'S GO.

3:51 That's a pretty good little double pump there.

3:52 Ah, can you tell me about hockey?

3:54 Um, okay.

3:55 The Avalanche have uh lost to the Minnesota Wild one time.

3:58 They could have been a clean sweep.

4:00 Obviously, the Carolina Hurricanes were able to do that.

4:02 Kirk Herbstreak goes way out on a limb where the fruit

4:04 are and says he likes Carolina to take on Colorado.

4:07 Yep.

4:08 Is that how we should be viewing it or is there a chance at Montreal

4:10 Buffalo kind of sneak their way into the finals

4:12 so we can showcase maybe their atmospheres?

4:15 How about Vegas Golden Knights?

4:16 Nobody's talking about them.

4:17 Anaheim Ducks obviously got Lorax as a coach.

4:19 I love their team.

4:20 They're in a battle 22 series.

4:22 Feels like Colorado and Carolina have stolen

4:24 the conversation strictly because they've been sweeping everybody.

4:26 Can anybody make it right now?

4:28 Is that how you view this or is it really a two- horse race at this stage?

4:31 Anybody can make I think in the East there's still a chance,

4:35 you know, and I really believe it's Montreal.

4:37 Um, obviously they got to get out of this series.

4:40 Buffalo's going to turn it on tonight.

4:41 I expect a much better game from Buffalo tonight.

4:44 They were not good enough.

4:46 They didn't tilt the ice.

4:47 They were sitting back on their heels other than

4:49 the start of scoring 53 seconds into the game.

4:52 That was their best shot.

4:54 What are you doing over here?

4:55 That stuff's good.

4:56 I know you gota

4:57 you worry about what's going on.

4:58 Okay, we're cleaning things up over here.

5:00 No, no, no.

5:01 I'm just kidding.

5:01 So, I think that Montreal is going to come.

5:04 I think they they might challenge Carolina, but Carolina,

5:08 as much as this pains me to say it,

5:09 Pat, I haven't picked Carolina to win a series in four or five years.

5:13 Carolina Hurricane Kane fans are loving every single moment of this right now.

5:18 And I do believe that this if this is going to be

5:20 their best chance to win a Stanley Cup since the last time they won.

5:23 Like this is their chance.

5:25 If they don't get it this year,

5:26 and I'm not talking about getting to the finals, they got to win it this year.

5:30 So that being said, that's what Montreal or Buffalo is up against.

5:34 Um in the West, I agree.

5:35 I I think Colorado is the team coming out of the West.

5:38 Vegas has a chance, but they got to figure out Anaheim first.

5:40 Yeah, Anaheim certainly been a little bit of a tough task there.

5:43 The Hurricanes become the first team to start

5:45 a postseason 8-0 since the Oilers in 1985.

5:50 Lost three games the entire playoffs in route to a title.

5:53 A lot of people saying they're going to win

5:54 a title if you have this particular stat, this particular stat.

5:57 The Kaniacs down there in Raleigh

5:59 will certainly love another opportunity at that.

6:01 Let's turn a conversation into NHL playoff hockey.

6:05 Do you think this been a great display of what the game is?

6:08 I think it has been.

6:09 ratings have been up and to the right.

6:11 Montreal going to change to showcase who they are.

6:13 Every single environment has been fantastic.

6:15 Now, couple runaways.

6:17 Carolina sweeps two people.

6:18 They're going to wait for a week, maybe get healthy.

6:20 Colorado could potentially do the same.

6:21 But I think hockey has shown up here.

6:23 Do you not agree, Pet?

6:25 100%.

6:25 And and in regards to the sweeps, by the way,

6:28 we always want to have the element of the underdog upsetting a better team.

6:33 It's always there.

6:34 I've been an eight-seated team that upsetted a first place team in the playoffs.

6:38 it it can happen.

6:39 So, you know, some years it's going to happen,

6:41 some years it's not going to happen.

6:42 That's a part of it.

6:43 But aside from that, uh you cannot tell me the quality

6:46 of hockey isn't at the highest that it's been ever.

6:48 I think in terms of the skill, the young players, like that's the thing now.

6:52 The young players are coming in ready to play.

6:54 The NHL is not a development league.

6:56 I I I don't I'm not going to tell

6:58 someone you're going to develop in this league.

6:59 You have to come in ready to play.

7:01 And you see guys like Lane Hudson that are

7:03 now being considered in just a couple years,

7:06 the some of the best players in the league.

7:07 You look at Lane Hudson, Slowski, all these guys.

7:10 Uh Buffalo's got a few guys.

7:11 Anaheim's got Lao Carlson,

7:13 uh Troy Terry and a couple other guys, Senica that are coming.

7:16 So there's a smorgish board of young talent.

7:19 That's what screams the future is bright in the NHL, right?

7:22 Speaking of the future, the draft obviously just found its way.

7:25 Connor has a question for you about number one overall pick.

7:27 Yeah, PK, it feels as though, and I'm not, you know, making accusations, okay,

7:33 but it feels as though maybe it was rigged for Gavin

7:36 McKenna to go number one to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

7:39 Uh the the Maple Leafs have had odds

7:41 in the top 10 basically twice and they missed the playoffs

7:44 twice in the last what 10 15 years and both

7:47 times they end up with that number one pick.

7:49 How do you feel about Gavin McKenna going number one?

7:52 Is that definitely a lock?

7:54 And do you think that the Toronto Maple Leafs,

7:57 I mean, we're not even going to bring up the GM.

7:58 You said you got a lot to say about that, but do you

8:00 think they hang on to kind of their core with Austin Matthews and them,

8:04 or do you think this is kind of a new

8:06 era for Toronto as far as the Maple Leafs go?

8:09 Great questions.

8:10 Uh, first of all, this puts an immense amount of pressure.

8:13 If there wasn't enough pressure on Toronto already,

8:16 getting the first overall pick, I know, I know some people are excited about it,

8:19 but being a new GM coming in, new management,

8:22 and getting that first overall pick in Toronto, like you cannot mess that up.

8:26 You can't[ __] that up.

8:28 I think you can't, excuse my French, but you can't mess that up.

8:31 If if they do, um, you know, this is not going to be good.

8:36 So, the question is here,

8:38 do they build around Austin Matthews and Willie Neland?

8:41 And I I'd have to say I think they're

8:43 closer to probably tearing this thing down and rebuilding it.

8:47 I you know I don't want to say that.

8:48 I don't know.

8:49 I don't have any insight into it, but they need defense.

8:52 They have to retool their goalending.

8:54 Like how many young prospects do they have in the system?

8:57 They've traded away first round picks.

8:59 They have to retool.

9:00 Like we're building this not to compete and content.

9:03 You got to win a championship.

9:05 Not contend for one.

9:06 You got to win one.

9:07 So, they've built contending teams that haven't even

9:10 been able to get out of the first round.

9:12 So, to me, a new breath of fresh air has got to come in.

9:15 Whether Austin, Matthews, and Knander are a part of it,

9:17 I think that's up to them, too.

9:19 Whether their contracts allow them to go or not,

9:21 do they want to be a part of a rebuild?

9:23 Do you think the entire US Olympic team should just come back to America,

9:26 get Halibuck the hell out of there,

9:27 get Brady Kachchuck the hell out of there, get Austin the hell out of there?

9:31 And listen, I Michael Anlar, the ownership there.

9:33 I know what they're doing in Ottawa and and I believe

9:36 that Ottawa is going to be a great place to play.

9:38 A lot of guys are going to want to play there

9:40 once all that stuff happens at the new arena, I think eventually.

9:43 But for Brady Kachchuck right now,

9:45 I would have been out of there yesterday because of just

9:48 of where he is in his career, where his game is.

9:51 Uh I believe it's just too heavy.

9:52 It's too much.

9:53 He shouldn't have that much on his shoulders to go out.

9:55 He's already the captain of the team, leads by example.

9:58 They put way too much heat on him.

10:00 And I played in Canada.

10:01 I know what it's like, but for him,

10:03 he should be appreciated for the game that he brings every day.

10:06 And I think he's going to have a better

10:07 opportunity to go somewhere and lead and and win.

10:11 Yeah.

10:11 I think Florida, I want to see him go play with Matthew in Florida.

10:14 Good.

10:15 He fits.

10:15 Listen to me.

10:16 He fits in with their style.

10:18 Right.

10:18 He might be a better fit for Florida than Matthew is with the way he plays.

10:22 I'm being honest.

10:22 So now he slides in there.

10:24 I I would like to see him in there.

10:26 And they're kachchucking nucks, too.

10:28 Yeah.

10:28 No, for sure.

10:29 They're certainly kachucking knucks all over the place.

10:32 I got a few.

10:32 He beat.

10:33 Oh yeah.

10:34 Brady.

10:34 I fought Brady.

10:35 You fought Brad, dude.

10:36 Oh my god.

10:37 So,

10:37 do you do you win a lot of fights or lose a lot of fights?

10:40 It's

10:40 surprisingly so with the way my face looks.

10:42 I've won like more than I've lost obviously cuz I'm telling you,

10:46 I fought a couple guys that I shouldn't

10:48 have fought that could have gone the wrong way.

10:49 Like I remember one fight Boro Wiki,

10:52 he could have splattered my whole face and he just happened to hit my visor.

10:55 Lucky time.

10:56 Um, but very, very, very, very lucky.

10:59 But Brady, I'm in Ottawa.

11:01 It's his rookie season.

11:03 And you know, I know Keith Kachchuck.

11:05 I remember meeting Brady and Matthew at a hockey

11:07 tournament when they were just little kids.

11:09 And I Chris O Sullivan's a good friend of mine.

11:11 Obviously, the Fitzgeralds that are tight with the Kachchuck.

11:13 So, I know him.

11:14 So, Brady's out there, but he's got a little chip on his shoulder.

11:17 And I'm out there.

11:18 I've been out there for an extended shift.

11:19 And he gets in front of the net, and he knows I've been out there long.

11:22 I'm I'm not giving him that free pass.

11:24 I know Keith taught him how to fight and when to pick his fights.

11:27 He grabbed me at the end of my shift, but it didn't matter.

11:30 He put his hands on me from the mo 18 years old.

11:33 He put his hands on me.

11:35 I don't know if I've ever felt a guy

11:37 in my career that that young have that much strength.

11:41 No, watch the fight.

11:42 He's basically going like this on the top of my head.

11:44 Look, I'm way in over my head here.

11:46 Way in over my head.

11:48 And I'm just eating them.

11:49 You know, you just got to hang in there.

11:51 Seat belt.

11:52 Try to get your arm loose.

11:53 You can tell I'm tired.

11:54 And Brady's like, "Yep,

11:55 you're getting tucked in." And that's exactly what he said to me at the end.

11:58 He's like, "Yep, I tucked you in." What?

11:59 Body slam.

12:01 Yep.

12:01 Watch.

12:01 And then he tells me right after, "You got tucked in.

12:04 It's okay.

12:05 This is probably closer to the end for you.

12:06 You'll probably be with Pat watching this in a couple years."

12:10 And he wasn't wrong about that.

12:12 He wasn't wrong about that at all.

12:14 Yeah, he is a unit.

12:15 Um, I got a lot of respect for him, man.

12:17 He's as tough as they come.

12:18 We got a lot of respect for you.

12:19 We appreciate you coming over here and giving us the hockey good.

12:22 It's great to see you, dude.

12:23 It's so nice to meet you, Pat.

12:24 I'm telling you guys, you're better looking in person.

12:27 You look great on TV, but better in person.

12:29 I I can see why you're a kicker now.

12:30 I can see the legs, man.

12:32 See that?

12:32 Yeah, you got a little bit of ace.

12:33 No, it's an honor, man.

12:34 Thank you.

12:35 Thank you for having me, bro.

12:37 How about it?

12:39 Yeah.

12:40 Pinstripe suit.

12:41 What a New York experience you're having.

12:44 Yeah, I had to I had to come strong for you today.

12:45 I couldn't come in with some[ __] today.

12:46 I had to come in.

12:47 What kind of shoes are those?

12:49 Yeah.

12:49 What type of shoes you got?

12:50 Okay.

12:50 So, I got the Soron Salon, but this is Chazari Antalini.

12:55 So, I only wear his suits.

12:57 New York top top is where you got to get.

13:00 This is Mr.

13:00 Antelini.

13:01 Yep.

13:01 Right here.

13:02 Chazari, baby.

13:03 You tie that tie.

13:04 Chazari.

13:06 I did tie the tie.

13:07 Double breasted.

13:07 Look at this guys.

13:08 Hold on.

13:09 I'll open it up.

13:11 I'll open it up a little bit here.

13:12 Let me just open it up and show you.

13:15 I did do an Epson salt bath.

13:16 I heard the sauna talk before.

13:17 You got me all excited.

13:18 Hockey players are the best at ty 400 years they've been making suits.

13:24 They know what they're doing.

13:28 Yep.

13:27 I have to I got to, dude.

13:29 I I can get fat so fast.

13:31 I have to single program.

13:33 And he's I mean that's just living up in Soho.

13:36 That's it.

13:37 Single guy in Soho Bass and massage every day.

13:42 Working out, getting after it.

13:43 We appreciate you, PK.

13:45 Thanks, boys.

13:45 Hey, hold on.

13:45 Don't leave with us.

13:46 Uh don't leave us just yet.

13:48 Uh, ladies and gentlemen, it's been a fantastic day here in New York.

13:50 We can't thank you enough.

13:51 I'll be back live from the Thunderdome.

13:52 AJ, thank you for traveling over to Indianapolis, brother.

13:55 Of course.

13:56 Awesome time.

13:57 I appreciate you supporting Tiger, too.

13:59 Hell yeah.

14:00 I am.

14:01 You're right.

14:02 Sunday, wherever he may be.

14:03 Hell yeah.

14:03 We need to tell him to stop driving though, right?

14:05 Yeah, we do.

14:06 We all agree.

14:06 We all love Tiger.

14:08 Tiger, we love you.

14:08 We appreciate you, Tiger.

14:09 Who.

14:10 Stop driving.

14:11 Whimo.

14:12 Yeah.

14:12 Yeah.

14:12 You can puke out of windows of Whimo now.

14:14 Yeah.

14:14 I did see that drunk white puking all over the side of that Whimo.

14:18 That's a good video.

14:19 Huge addition.

14:20 Smart.

14:20 Never even thought, dude.

14:21 I feel like a part of the team right now.

14:23 This is This is awesome.

14:24 You got anything to say to the crew?

14:26 Uh, you know what?

14:27 Love watching you guys.

14:28 Love having you guys on.

14:29 Keep grinding.

14:30 Keep changing the game.

14:31 You guys are changing the whole media game.

14:32 I love it.

14:33 So, I'm It's an honor to be on, Pat.

14:34 Dude, you're the best for saying that.

14:36 How about you?

14:36 How about you, Big City Bruce?

14:38 Anything over there?

14:40 I just pulled up that Whimo Pew guy and I look just like him.
