0:13 So today we, my lovely wife and myself and all of you are going to go on a hike.

0:22 So what even is a hike?

0:24 Well, a hike is when you go walk, but you do it in nature.

0:30 So, you can go for a walk at a park.

0:34 You could go for a walk in the city.

0:36 But the difference between a walk and a hike is that a hike is in nature.

0:43 Trees, plants, open space, nature.

0:47 Come on, camera wife.

0:48 Let's go for a hike.

0:49 So guys, as you can see, it's a very cold day here in Indiana.

0:55 And why I say it's an ugly day is because there's no sun.

0:58 It's super cold.

0:59 There's a train coming, guys.

1:01 Let's watch a train go by in case anybody

1:04 doesn't know what the word train means in English.

1:07 Well, that was just a small train, guys.

1:14 That's a train going to Chicago.

1:18 And that's what my son would tell you

1:20 all about because he knows everything about trains.

1:23 He would say, "Dad, that's a metrop passenger

1:25 train." Passenger train means that people ride in it.

1:29 Now, these over here, these trains are going to the steel mills, okay?

1:37 Places like where I work where they make steel.

1:40 And that's a huge, huge industry here in Indiana.

1:45 The interesting thing about Indiana, guys,

1:47 you could have all of this industrial stuff,

1:50 steel mills, all of this electrical equipment right next to beautiful nature.

1:56 So, it's really strange, guys, because a lot of places have beautiful nature

2:00 and a lot of places have all of this industrial stuff.

2:04 Indiana has both right next to each other.

2:08 This is what we call a nature preserve,

2:10 which means they're not allowed to put factories or pollute,

2:15 put any chemicals on this.

2:17 They have to protect this piece of land, but it's right next to the steel mills.

2:22 So, in this video, I'll show you more of the beautiful nature.

2:26 We'll also take a look at the steel mills so

2:28 you could see a little bit of Indiana's industrial side.

2:32 And do you know what industrial means, camera wife?

2:35 Like a a big companies.

2:36 big companies, but basically it means they're making something.

2:40 Okay?

2:41 They're creating something.

2:42 And the big industry here in Indiana is steel.

2:47 A lot of families in Indiana make their living off of steel.

2:53 Many people get to eat and have homes because of these steel mills.

2:58 And even though I don't like working long crazy hours in a factory,

3:04 I'm so grateful because these places have allowed

3:07 my family to have a very good life.

3:10 And honestly, they pay really well.

3:13 So, let's go, baby.

3:16 Okay, guys.

3:16 So, I just wanted to show you this.

3:18 That is actually what we would call a pond.

3:22 And a pond is like a small lake.

3:24 But you can see it's so cold that it's frozen completely solid.

3:28 I could go out there and jump on that ice and nothing

3:31 would happen because it's been so cold for so long here in Indiana.

3:35 So that's freezing.

3:37 But normally this part, guys, is full of wildlife.

3:42 Do you know what wildlife is, camera wife?

3:46 Animals.

3:46 Animals.

3:46 So wildlife is all the living creatures that you see out here.

3:50 my hands.

3:51 Guys, somebody stole my gloves.

3:53 Hold on.

3:53 Let me show you this little wife of mine right now.

3:56 Look at little camera wife.

3:57 Little camera penguin.

3:59 Oh, she's such a cutie.

4:02 She has two pairs of gloves on and so much clothes.

4:05 And so much clothes.

4:08 So guys, one thing you learn living in a place

4:10 like Indiana is you have to bundle up.

4:13 Bundling up means using layers of clothes.

4:16 I have this on.

4:18 I have this on.

4:19 I have this on.

4:20 I have a t-shirt underneath.

4:22 I have pants.

4:24 I have thermal underwear that go all the way down.

4:26 I'm bundled up right now, guys.

4:29 And camera wife is too.

4:31 But what I was saying about the wildlife here,

4:33 guys, in the summer there's beautiful birds flying around everywhere.

4:40 And last year I actually saw baby turtles.

4:44 And on my Instagram,

4:45 there's that picture of me holding a little turtle in my hand.

4:50 Super cool.

4:51 That's one of my favorite things about this place.

4:53 Wildlife everywhere.

4:55 Right next to Indiana's biggest industries.

4:58 Okay, guys.

4:59 Sometimes when you go out into the wild, you do not see wildlife,

5:04 but there is evidence that it's out here, even if we don't see it.

5:08 Such as this.

5:09 These are tracks or footprints.

5:12 And you could see the little fingers, guys.

5:14 Some little animal made his his little paw print.

5:18 And I think that's probably like a squirrel

5:20 or something because it has little fingers.

5:24 And uh over here you could see some more.

5:27 This I think looks more like a rabbit because it

5:30 has its two front feet and then a back one.

5:33 So anybody who's a wildlife expert, tell me, do you think I'm right?

5:37 And that's probably a rabbit and a squirrel or what is it?

5:41 because I know somebody knows better than me.

5:43 So, the wildlife is out here even if we don't see it.

5:47 All right, guys.

5:48 So, this is a fence.

5:50 A fence is a barrier to keep people out.

5:53 How do you say that word in Spanish?

5:56 You could say like barera.

5:59 Huh?

6:00 Bara.

6:00 Barera.

6:00 So, a fence is to keep people out.

6:02 But on the other side of that fence is

6:05 one of the biggest companies in United States history.

6:08 It's called US Steel or United States Steel.

6:12 There's actually a pretty cool story behind that that you

6:15 can read about in one of my favorite books ever, Think and Grow Rich.

6:19 And in Think and Grow Rich, they tell the story of how a very wealthy financier,

6:25 which is a guy who basically makes money by having money,

6:29 he bought the Andrew Carnegie Steel Company and put it

6:35 together with a bunch of smaller ones and they created,

6:38 here's a good word for you guys, something called a monopoly.

6:42 Do you know what a monopoly is?

6:43 A monopoly is when one company has control over a whole industry.

6:49 Okay?

6:50 So there should be five or six

6:53 big steel companies competing to make prices good.

6:57 But what Andrew Carnegie and JP Morgan, the financeier,

7:02 what they did, they put them together and created a monopoly.

7:05 Meaning one giant company controlled the whole steel industry.

7:09 And JP Morgan paid Andrew Carnegie $400 million for his steel company back then.

7:17 That was like Elon Musk money.

7:19 Okay, so just a little interesting fact.

7:22 And monopoly is a great vocabulary word

7:26 for when one company controls a whole industry.

7:29 That has nothing to do with hiking, but it's right here.

7:32 So I felt like sharing that story.

7:34 It's a huge part of American history and business and industry.

7:39 And those guys are what we call the titans of industry.

7:42 They they took the world by storm, made these companies huge,

7:46 and made hundreds of millions of dollars in a time

7:50 when nobody even knew that much money could exist.

7:53 Super cool.

7:56 All right, guys.

7:57 And now we've got to the part where you start

7:59 to see a little bit of the beauty of the nature here.

8:03 We've got away from the industrial part and now

8:06 we're going into my favorite part of Indiana, which is all the nature.

8:11 Guys, I really find a lot of peace coming out here in the woods and hiking.

8:16 I come out here to think, just listen to the birds,

8:19 which there's no birds right now,

8:21 but in the summer, guys, you'll hear birds singing.

8:24 It's really just a beautiful place to come.

8:27 And I think that is a huge,

8:29 very important thing that all of us can do for our mental health.

8:33 And the best part, it's free, guys.

8:36 I never feel better than when I'm out walking around in nature.

8:40 Honestly, no headphones, just listening, looking,

8:44 and being one with nature like we're supposed to be.

8:47 So, I'll take this chance to tell you guys about

8:50 something that my whole family is very excited for, especially Connor.

8:55 We're going on a vacation, guys, in 10 days.

8:59 In 10 days, we're going to go somewhere where there's no snow.

9:03 Somewhere where we can show you guys incredible nature,

9:06 a whole another side of the United States.

9:09 We're going to a state called Arizona.

9:12 Guys, I've never been there.

9:14 Obviously, my lovely Colombian wife has never been there.

9:17 And we're going to see a whole lot of new awesome things.

9:21 And we're even going to drive for about 2

9:24 hours for one day to see one of the greatest,

9:28 most famous attractions in my whole country, the Grand Canyon.

9:33 I'm sure a lot of you have heard of that and seen pictures.

9:36 We're going to take you there in about two weeks

9:38 and we're going to see all kinds of awesome stuff, guys.

9:42 We're super excited.

9:43 What's What are you most excited about, baby?

9:46 To be somewhere is not too cold, I think.

9:48 Me, too, guys.

9:49 be somewhere where the sun is out.

9:52 It's not going to be super hot there,

9:54 but during the day it will get a little bit warmer.

9:57 We're all very happy about that.

9:59 So, I can't wait to take you guys there with me,

10:01 show you a whole different side of the country,

10:04 and I'll be seeing it for the first time along with you guys.

10:10 Another important piece of hiking vocabulary because I

10:14 will talk about some hiking in this video,

10:16 not just about American business history and our upcoming trip.

10:21 This is called a hill.

10:23 And a hill is where the land goes up.

10:26 Okay, it goes up and a hill gives you a good workout.

10:31 Okay, so me and my wife, we're going to run up the hill.

10:35 Come on, wife.

10:35 We got to run up the hill.

10:36 Just kidding.

10:38 camera wife is pregnant, so she's going to slowly walk up the hill.

10:42 Oh, guys, I want to tell you one of the most

10:46 important tips of hiking or running or walking outside,

10:52 this is one that I learned the hard way.

10:55 Always remember that however far you go, you have to come back.

10:59 So when you're running guys or hiking up hills or in the mountains,

11:03 do not go until you get too tired and you're like,

11:06 "Okay, I want to stop hiking now." Always remember, you have to go back, guys.

11:12 We've been walking for probably 30, 35 minutes just to get here.

11:16 So, we know we have to go back.

11:19 So, we're not going to go much farther into here.

11:21 We're just going to walk up this hill and see

11:23 if there's anything cool that we can show you guys.

11:26 Guys, I want to show you one thing that I just saw that's pretty disgusting.

11:32 I'm not happy about seeing this out here.

11:34 And it's something you really don't see a lot

11:36 when you come out to parks and natural places.

11:41 And it's this guys.

11:42 These are gang signs and that means uh you know criminals,

11:49 pandios they say in South America.

11:51 But it upsets me that these losers would come out here

11:56 and write that on a trail where people bring their kids,

12:00 where they bring their families,

12:01 where they come out to be healthy and do the right thing.

12:04 And I'm really surprised that one

12:07 of these losers even came out here because honestly,

12:09 you never see things like that in places

12:12 where people come to healthy things because

12:15 these losers is the only thing I could

12:17 call them never do healthy and good things.

12:20 So, what I think this probably was was some kid,

12:24 some teenager who has good parents who love him probably brought

12:28 him out here trying to make him do the right thing,

12:31 get some exercise in nature, and then he wanted to be cool and drew that.

12:37 But honestly, what a loser, whoever wrote that.

12:41 Okay, guys.

12:41 Camera wife just asked me something and I thought I would explain

12:44 it to my lovely baby and you guys at the same time.

12:48 She said, "What are these trains here for?" So, it's kind of hard to see,

12:52 but on top of it, you could see a little black material.

12:56 That's something that we call coke, but basically, it's charcoal, guys.

13:00 It's almost like what you cook food with on your grill, but industrial charcoal.

13:06 And what these cars are going to do, we call them train cars.

13:09 When I say cars, that's what I mean, train cars.

13:12 Oh, here comes another one.

13:14 Looks like they might be coming to get it.

13:16 But anyway, they will take this into the steel mill.

13:19 They will dump that into basically giant ovens that we call furnaces.

13:25 That is how they get it super hot to melt all

13:28 the other materials and make the steel for cars and things like that.

13:32 Here's another guy working over here.

13:34 I did a job similar to this guys where you run on the trains.

13:38 It's actually a really fun job, but as you can see with my compan,

13:43 they don't care if it's cold outside.

13:45 They don't care if it's raining or snowing.

13:48 You still got to go outside and do it.

13:50 So those we call the train engines and there's two of them.

13:55 So it could be really strong to push a whole bunch of heavy stuff.

13:59 So this is all steel mo steel mill work going on.

14:04 And I've done a lot of this stuff, guys.

14:07 I know almost all there is to know about making steel because

14:11 I've been working in this industry since I was a young man.

14:15 So, that's what's going on here, guys.

14:24 Got to spend some time together because making these videos

14:27 is one of our favorite things to do together.

14:30 Working together as a team with your your partner is always a good thing.

14:35 Uh, I thought this video was going to be nature and hiking vocabulary,

14:40 but we wound up getting a little bit of US history,

14:43 little bit of industrial knowledge about the steel industry,

14:47 and a little bit of nature and the beauty that Indiana has to offer.
