AntiGravity A1 | The Flying Insta360 8K 360 Camera
Potato Jet
0:02 [Applause] What?
0:05 Look at this air.
0:06 He's still in the air.
0:07 He's still in the air.
0:08 What the[ __] Wa.
0:11 All right.
0:11 So, let me take you behind the scenes
0:12 of a shoot I was tasked to do recently by Anti-gravity.
0:16 Now, if you've never heard of Anti-gravity or the drones they make,
0:19 that's probably because they're a new company that doesn't
0:21 even have a drone you can go and buy at.
0:23 But what they do have is a prototype of something that combines
0:26 two things that I have loved since the beginning of this channel,
0:30 which is a drone combined with a 360 camera.
0:33 So, they handed it to me and sent me off
0:35 to film the freestyle motocross legend Jared McNeel with another gold medal.
0:40 Backto back gold medals.
0:42 What's it feel like?
0:43 Now, I typically hesitate to film a worldass
0:46 athlete with something that is not done yet.
0:50 I would say feature-wise,
0:51 we're probably only going to talk about 30 to 40%
0:54 of what the final version is going to include.
0:56 So, so for anybody that's that's interested in this, there's a lot more to come.
0:59 Okay.
1:00 So, this is a taste test, you know, the sample ice cream scoop.
1:04 So, they told me that down the line,
1:05 this will have very similar capabilities as the Insta3 X5, but as of right now,
1:10 we're super limited in terms of resolution
1:12 and also capped out at 30 frames per second,
1:14 which is a little bit limiting cuz I would love to get some super slow motion,
1:18 but eventually we'll get 8K.
1:20 So, more pixels.
1:21 So, this is not an Insta 360 drone.
1:24 It's not.
1:25 It's a brand new company called Anti-gravity.
1:27 There is a relationship between the companies.
1:29 Insta3 incubated this company.
1:31 Here's where you see the relationship with Insta 360.
1:33 You have a top mounted camera and a bottom- mounted camera.
1:37 And it's basically like having an X5 flying in the sky.
1:40 Oh, and you can see you can see in real time.
1:42 So, as you're moving the headset, the screen will also track in real time.
1:46 Now, it's not like this is my first time flying a 360 camera.
1:48 I've done it before on an FPV drone.
1:51 Not totally something I would recommend cuz it's so easy to crash
1:53 the thing and then you scrape up your lens and then you cry.
1:55 Then there was the Insta3 sphere where you can attach it
1:58 to a DJI drone and that was a bit easier to fly.
2:00 But I've never been able to actually view
2:03 a Stitch 360 image live through a headset before.
2:06 And if you've ever put on VR goggles like the Oculus Quest
2:09 or something like that, you know that it's a kind of trippy.
2:12 Oh, Michael, you're so tall.
2:15 Go.
2:17 Ah.
2:18 So, Michael gave me the crash course on it.
2:20 And even though it's an unusual experience,
2:22 it's super easy to learn how to fly this thing,
2:24 even if you've never flown a drone before.
2:26 I mean, guaranteed within the first battery, you're going to be zipping around.
2:29 Do one of you guys want to try flying this?
2:30 Wouldn't say no.
2:31 Put this on and these knobs right here will adjust for your vision.
2:34 I'm going to give you this controller here.
2:36 So, I'm going to go.
2:36 So, I looked at the controller before and Yeah.
2:39 It's so easy.
2:40 Squeeze the trigger.
2:40 It'll go towards whatever that pointer is.
2:43 Yeah.
2:43 Hey,
2:44 so how you move the controller is how you're steering and flying,
2:47 but you can always look in a completely different direction.
2:52 What
2:52 is it really easy?
2:53 Yeah.
2:53 Yeah, super easy,
2:54 dude.
2:54 It's the easiest drone I've ever seen.
2:55 What do you even like touch your hole, dude?
2:57 Just the trigger.
2:59 I'm just holding the trigger.
3:00 What if you let go of the trigger and you stop?
3:02 Am I attempting faith with this or no?
3:04 Since it's GPS stabilized, if you take it slow, that's it.
3:11 [Music] The excavator.
3:14 What the heck?
3:14 I just flew through your shed on your very first flight, too.
3:20 No, you have no idea.
3:21 Wait till you fly this thing.
3:22 It's a secret.
3:23 This is another world.
3:26 There's other drones that you can kind
3:27 of control like this, but what's what's new
3:29 with this is that you can actually like the fact that you can look around
3:33 and uh you can look behind you down and all that.
3:36 Yeah, that is not normal.
3:39 So, I figured we're going to get the best
3:40 shots during golden hour when the lighting's all nice.
3:42 So, this was kind of our chance to just work through everything,
3:45 figure out what works, what doesn't, what looks good, and what doesn't.
3:49 As you come around and I come go underneath us.
3:54 Yeah.
3:54 Yeah.
3:54 And I think one of the big things is that since it is a 360 camera,
3:58 it's basically like an ultra ultra wide angle lens,
4:02 which means close things look very close and far things look very far.
4:06 So I kept feeling like the best shots were where they
4:08 would come in close and you can kind of feel that proximity.
4:11 It's wild because I get scared.
4:13 He's coming towards me.
4:14 I'm terrified.
4:16 Like I feel like I'm in danger.
4:18 I basically want to find the spot where it's still within
4:21 your guys' comfort zone to where it's not in your guys' way,
4:25 but kind of as close as I can get to the top of the jump.
4:28 Does that seem pretty good?
4:29 Oh yeah.
4:30 I'm going to go a little bit deeper.
4:35 Okay.
4:35 Oh my god, that thing is going to get some freaking awesome chunk.
4:42 It's awesome.
4:43 You guys are just buzzing right past.
4:45 Oh my god.
4:45 I was not even paying attention and I can see him go right in front of me.
4:50 Okay, now I'm just going to stay in the same spot,
4:52 but I'm just going to shoot down as they're coming up.
4:54 This right here is my up and down.
4:56 And I'm just going to try to start up high.
4:59 Oh[ __] god.
5:00 I did a full whip over it.
5:02 Dude, that was hot.
5:03 Yeah.
5:03 Yeah.
5:04 I looked under I was like, "Oh my god, right there."
5:08 My mind is being blown right now.
5:10 Woo!
5:11 Wow.
5:11 Oh my god.
5:12 I swear we were so close to that tire.
5:15 Does it have legs that come down?
5:17 Yeah.
5:17 So, it kind of has to have these legs.
5:19 So, right now it's closed because it has to clear that 360 camera, right?
5:22 But they they come down.
5:24 Yeah.
5:24 So, whenever I power up these little landing legs come out
5:27 so I can put it down and it protects the legs.
5:30 What the heck?
5:30 It's like a freaking helicopter.
5:32 Like a robot.
5:34 I did also have a little bit of fun
5:35 experimenting with different ways to reframe out different shots,
5:39 but it was strange flying and not even
5:42 thinking about the framing or composition at all.
5:44 Basically, I mean, half the time I would just hover in the middle
5:47 of the action and they would just kind of work around it.
5:50 And honestly, it felt a little bit strange because usually flying
5:53 drones is like a really intense thing that's super focused and all.
5:56 And here I'm just standing there with one hand
5:58 on my hip just looking at them pass me by.
6:01 I just got an excellent shot of a back flip.
6:03 Excellent shot of a backflip.
6:05 And this is all I'm doing.
6:06 And then when I'm actually flying it around,
6:08 it does remind me of those really high-end
6:10 cinema drones where you have one person that's just
6:12 piloting the aircraft and then you have a second
6:14 operator that's operating the gimbal and the camera.
6:17 And that does make a huge difference because you
6:19 can just really focus on not crashing the drone.
6:22 So, by combining the dual operator mindset
6:25 with a aircraft that's very easy to fly,
6:27 I felt very comfortable going through tighter spaces,
6:30 knowing that I'm not going to crash this thing
6:32 because we literally only have one of these things.
6:34 So, if we crash it, then uh game over.
6:38 All right, it is finally golden hour.
6:40 Time to get the money shots we came here for.
6:42 So, the biggest thing we learned from this morning
6:44 is that the timing needs to be pretty exact to get the shots we were
6:48 looking for, and we have to be super efficient.
6:51 So, basically what we did was time exactly how many seconds it takes
6:54 them to get from their starting point to the apex of the jump.
6:57 And we also timed out the drone the same exact way.
7:00 And with a little bit of tweaking, we were able to really pinpoint that timing.
7:06 Dude, that wasn't too bad.
7:07 That was pretty spot-on.
7:08 My goal is to kind of get you like back lit like with the sun in the back.
7:12 So, that would mean I would kind of go this way.
7:14 And honestly, once we got that timing down,
7:16 we were able to just like consistently hit all
7:18 the shots we needed in that short little window.
7:21 3 2 1 That's going to be a good one.
7:27 Funny cuz I I don't even see him in the frame.
7:30 All I see is like a tire in the corner of my eye.
7:33 No clue how the shot turns out, but I guess I just have to trust the process.
7:37 Final shot was just to park the drone at the very top of the jump,
7:41 but as close as possible.
7:43 In the goggles, it feels like he's like right here.
7:46 I actually found it to be easiest to just fly line of sight,
7:49 meaning I'm just watching the drone with my eyes
7:51 and inching it closer and closer after every jump.
7:54 And I think it paid off.
7:59 Oh yeah, that one was sick.
8:00 The drone had to like went up a little bit like,
8:03 whoa, there's something under me.
8:04 Now, this shot kind of got me thinking.
8:06 Since I'm recording with a 360 camera,
8:08 I really don't need to view the live feed from the drone to have
8:12 confidence that I'm getting the shots I need because it's a 360 camera.
8:15 It's recording everything, right?
8:16 So, I asked Anti-gravity,
8:17 "Is there going to be like a super minimalist way to get
8:20 this thing up in the air and just get a shot
8:22 real quick if I need to and I don't want to put
8:24 on all the goggles and all that stuff?" And they were like,
8:26 "There are a couple, but I can't tell you a lot about them at the moment."
8:29 Keeping all these secrets from you still.
8:30 Dang it.
8:31 All right, so now that I've had a chance
8:32 to pack on some miles on this, let me tell you
8:34 my favorite and least favorite things about this anti-gravity
8:37 A1, which is the name of the thing, by the way.
8:40 A1 is the drone, and then anti-gravity is the brand.
8:43 So, they'll be releasing other drones that is going to be like
8:45 the anti-gravity B1 or I don't know what they're going to call it.
8:48 But hands down, my favorite thing is just how easy it is to get up
8:52 in the air and get shots and just be able to like intuitively look around.
8:56 And it's it's you know the experience of flying this thing is
9:00 maybe just as exciting as being able to get shots with it.
9:03 Dude, you know what's crazy?
9:04 Looking down.
9:05 Dude, I feel like a god.
9:07 You peasants.
9:08 You little ants.
9:09 You looking down on yourself.
9:11 Like I personally have a ton of drone flying experience,
9:14 but a beginner could do the same shots.
9:17 The caveat is that you do have to get
9:19 fairly close because of that ultra wide angle lens.
9:23 But as you get more experience, you can feel better getting closer.
9:26 And believe it or not, I did not crash this thing the whole time I had it.
9:29 Yay, go me.
9:30 That brings me to my least favorite thing about this is if you do crash,
9:34 there's a pretty good chance that these lenses could get scraped.
9:37 And one of my favorite things about the new X5 is the replaceable lenses.
9:42 And this does not have those replaceable lenses.
9:44 I'm assuming it's for weight maybe because this is a sub 250 g drone.
9:50 This is tiny.
9:51 I know, right?
9:51 Really lightweight.
9:52 Yeah, which makes you see little legs pop out so
9:56 that you can set it down without scratching the bottom.
10:00 I like that this case has this little divot right here.
10:02 So, let's say the drone's not powered on and the legs are retracted,
10:05 you can just kind of set it there.
10:07 When you need to take off on dirt or whatever,
10:08 it's nice to have a little platform to take off from.
10:11 The case being a launchpad, really smart.
10:13 You got a little three-way charger.
10:15 So, once we get going, I want to just not have to stop.
10:17 A battery pack is a necklace so that we keep the weight off of the goggles here.
10:23 You can't look out of them as like
10:24 this with goggles like as far as like looking.
10:26 Oh, pass through.
10:28 There is a pass through option that's it's not here yet, but it's coming.
10:31 They have a little camera up here.
10:32 So, it basically turns pass through.
10:34 No way.
10:35 Yeah, little digital pass through.
10:35 See, I can see the camera there.
10:37 Yeah.
10:37 Oh, you can see Yeah.
10:38 Oh, look.
10:38 It's It's on the screen.
10:40 It's showing me right now on this.
10:42 See how I like That's a display.
10:44 And then of course it being a 360 camera, you do have to reframe afterwards.
10:48 So exporting probably from an app,
10:50 but of course on the other hand, there's the benefit of recording 360,
10:53 which is the amount of versatility you get out of these shots
10:56 and the number of ways you can export these things.
10:58 Like if I film both of them jumping at once, I could get the two shot,
11:02 I could get singles, I could also put it in vertical for social.
11:05 Oh, I also want to point out that I've never flown
11:07 a drone before where I felt like I had so much spatial awareness.
11:11 Yeah, you have like spatial awareness in a drone.
11:13 If you're flying backwards or to the side,
11:15 you can always just look and just be like, "Okay, I'm not going to hit a wall."
11:19 Oh, like me getting really close to this tree right now.
11:22 Yeah.
11:22 But overall, I'd say the shots came out pretty
11:24 decent considering one how easy it was to fly,
11:27 but also limited resolution and limited frame rates.
11:30 So, it definitely gets me excited to see
11:31 this thing when everything is unlocked with its full potential.
11:35 And of course, huge shout out to Jared McNeel and Levi.
11:38 Definitely go check them out if you're into that kind of thing.
11:40 They even let me hit some of the jumps like
11:42 of course the smaller ones that are meant for children.
11:45 So this is uh my new uh teacher right here.
11:48 Right here show you the ropes.
11:51 Show you show you the track.
11:52 Yes.
11:52 Considering how terrifying these relatively tiny jumps are definitely
11:56 gives me much more appreciation for what they do.
11:59 But that's all I got this time around.
12:01 Thanks so much for hanging out with us.
12:02 And don't forget to eat your vegetables.
12:04 I'm not kidding.
12:05 Seriously, I've been trying to shed a little bit of weight.
12:07 You know, trim down a little bit, lower that body fat.
12:09 So, at the beginning of the day, I'll just fill up a bowl
12:11 with nutrientdense vegetables like broccoli and carrots,
12:15 and I'll just try to eat this throughout the day.
12:17 And it's got fiber.
12:18 It's got nutrients, vitamins, minerals, all that good stuff.
12:21 And then I just I don't know.
12:23 It's just easier to lose weight when you fill yourself
12:25 with vegetables opposed to trying to like starve yourself, you know?
12:30 That's torture.
12:30 No thanks.
12:31 I'll just I I I'll eat these vegetables.
12:33 And uh it's been working so far.
12:35 Anyways, that's it.
12:36 See you later.
12:37 Thanks for watching.
