TheEllenShow
0:00 We saw each other recently at a fund raiser for Hilary
0:03 Clinton at George Clooney's house and we hung out a little bit.
0:06 And you had a little tooth incident.
0:09 My tooth came out.
0:11 [LAUGH]
0:12 Mm-hm.
0:13 Yeah.
0:13 Have any of you had a tooth come out?
0:14 Yes, me!
0:15 [LAUGH] Raise your hands.
0:16 Not very many of you.
0:17 Like a front tooth, like a
0:19 [SOUND] So you were having a martini saying you weren't gotta
0:23 eat anything because you are afraid your tooth would come out
0:27 and I see you leaving at the end of the night
0:30 going like this and I run over to you and was like,
0:34 I guess your tooth came out.
0:36 Yes.
0:37 A lot of people came over in sympathy and said.
0:39 In fact, Barry Diller said, mine came out three times last week.
0:42 [LAUGH]
0:43 [LAUGH]
0:44 Well, that's.
0:45 Do you mind saying how old you are?
0:48 78.
0:49 78 years old.
0:51 [APPLAUSE] If that's the worst that happens.
0:56 [APPLAUSE] I mean you look so good and I know
1:01 you know that, I'm sure you hear it all the time.
1:03 Thank you.
1:04 But do you think, do you care about that number?
1:08 Well, yeah I do because no matter what.
1:09 You know, I've got a fake hip, a fake knee,
1:13 I've gotta, you should see what happens to me in airports.
1:17 I mean it's just a fact no matter what happens you're body is gotta go south,
1:21 but your spirit and your mind, [APPLAUSE] It's like [APPLAUSE] People,
1:31 you know the old fashioned way of looking at aging is you're born,
1:34 you peak at midlife, and then you recline into decrepitude.
1:38 But the way to really look at it is, even if you body is declining,
1:41 even if you're sick, your spirit,
1:43 your heart is on an upward trajectory, always growing and evolving.
1:48 [APPLAUSE]
1:50 It's a very.
1:52 Not just this business but just society in general.
1:54 It's a very youth oriented,
1:56 I mean everything you see in magazines, everything you see everywhere is.
2:00 And I think that's you know.
2:02 Personally, with Hillary,
2:03 I think it's what she's fighting against right now, too,
2:07 because she's not what we're used to seeing in women and society, right?
2:12 Yeah.
2:13 Right?
2:14 It's so exciting that you may very well be our President.
2:18 [APPLAUSE] I mean, we could have a woman president.
2:20 [APPLAUSE] That would be amazing.
2:21 [APPLAUSE]
2:22 My Lord.
2:24 Yeah.
2:24 I mean, you've been an activist.
2:25 You've been very vocal with politics and this must
2:29 be really exciting to actually see that it's a possibility.
2:33 Yeah.
2:33 It's not just her gender.
2:35 Mm hm.
2:36 She will play the woman's card.
2:37 I mean a man could play the woman's card too.
2:39 But she will deal with things that other
2:42 people aren't dealing with like domestic violence, like.
2:45 Equal pay like this ERA.
2:48 And she's super smart and just, I mean, I think she's amazing.
2:52 I think she's-
2:52 And she just gets knocked down and she comes back and-
2:55 I know, I can't imagine, I mean,
2:57 I spoke with her that night and it's just
3:00 the amount that she's attacked And that she's just still strong.
3:04 Yeah, she's really resilient.
3:05 Yeah, amazing.
3:05 We have to talk about this, because someone told me this today,
3:07 and I can't imagine, you said you've had a lot of experiences in life.
3:10 And, one experience that I heard about today,
3:13 is that you swam nude with Michael Jackson.
3:17 [LAUGH] Of course.
3:21 [APPLAUSE] I'll tell you how, Here's how it happened.
3:29 He was visiting me when we were shooting on Golden Pond.
3:32 And I had a little cabin on the lake,
3:34 Squam Lake in New Hampshire, and he stayed with me for about eight days.
3:38 And one night, it was a full moon and he said, let's go swimming.
3:43 It was his idea.
3:45 [LAUGH] When he said let's go swimming, did he mean like, nude?
3:49 Well, he hadn't brought a bathing suit.
3:51 [LAUGH]
3:51 And yeah, I think.
3:53 And you both just took all your clothes off and jumped in?
3:56 Yeah.
3:56 We wore robes and went out and dropped the robes and the, but you know here,
4:00 I am the only person in the world who
4:03 has skinny dipped with Micheal Jackson, And Greta Garbo.
4:07 [APPLAUSE] And Greta Garbo?
4:09 Yes.
4:10 Wow, how did that happen?
4:13 I was about 16 and my father had rented
4:15 a house in the south of France right on the water.
4:18 And, he was married.
4:21 My stepmother was a very social person so
4:23 there were always a lot of celebrities coming.
4:26 And no one ever spoke to me or paid any attention.
4:28 One day Garbo came.
4:30 And she said, you wanna go swimming?
4:32 And in fact that she even saw me and she
4:35 came out with a robe and one of those white
4:38 serious tight rubber caps and there was a lady
4:42 friend with her and we walked down the steeps,
4:45 stone stairs and she dropped her robe and my god, her body,
4:48 it made me so happy cuz it was so beautiful but it wasn't Playboy body,
4:53 it was athlete body.
4:55 She was so sleek, and [NOISE],
4:57 she dove into that cold water, she was Swedish you know.
5:00 It took me a lot longer to get in the water
5:03 but then we kinda she swam way out and I
5:05 was coming this way and we came back and we were
5:07 face to face in the water threading water and she said,
5:10 do you want to be an actress?
5:12 And I said no.
5:13 And she said, well you're pretty enough you should be.
5:17 I almost drowned.
5:18 [LAUGHTER] wow and did then you think about being
5:22 an actress because of Greta Garbo saying that.
5:24 no, I never thought I would, no.
5:27 Yeah but look at your career now, unbelievable
