0:16 This is where we want like a main set for the second channel.

0:20 We rebuilt the kitchen from scratch, built a brand new island on wheels.
0:24 We mounted storage and even started running LEDs
0:27 inside the cube so every shelf could glow.
0:30 But the vision wasn't complete and we still have a lot more work to do.

1:04 They're also got this mesh at the back, which is pretty cool.
1:07 So, if you've got curves or bends in your build,
1:10 you can just curve the panel around.
1:12 I'm thinking to do like a mix of these wood panels
1:15 and some foliage because a little bit of greenery never hurt the room.
1:19 So, right now he has two plants he puts on the side
1:21 and then like he has a background and then two little plants.
1:25 Oh, you know what would be really cool to build a secret door.
1:28 So, the doors all covered in the grass.
1:29 Oh, let's do that.
1:30 We're going to be building a secret door right over there.
1:34 So, that way when AJ's filming this background,
1:36 you can't tell that there's another door.
1:38 It just looks like part of the set.
1:42 I had to step away from the build for a couple of hours,
1:44 but Richard kept things moving.
1:46 He fitted a new worktop,
1:48 cut out the opening for the sink and tap, and secured it all in.
1:56 Then he started building that dividing wall
1:58 that separates the entrance from the kitchen,
2:00 which is going to completely change how this space feels.
2:03 The parting wall as you come into the room and the kitchen,
2:07 so like the dividing wall for that has now been built.
2:10 This is going to serve us a cool purpose later down the line.
2:12 Some of our electrics are going to go down there.
2:14 And then on this side, I'm planning to 3D print my own pegboard,
2:19 which will hold an iPad that will then
2:21 also control all of the film lighting in here.
2:23 Um, so that's going to be pretty cool.
2:25 I'm looking forward to that.
2:26 This is also a great space for us to put sockets in because we've removed them
2:29 from this whole wall because I didn't want them to be in the way for filming.
2:33 We're now putting a couple of plug sockets here on the side,
2:37 tucked away from camera.
2:38 For now, we're going to cut the decorative panels in half,
2:40 and they're going to be stuck onto the top section of that wall.
2:51 So, we've run out of mastic,
2:53 but there is one little more patch to do, probably up to here.
2:57 And then the other sides that are empty right now,
2:59 they're going to be covered in foliage with that part being our secret door.
3:04 So, there's going to be a big MDF sheet a bit like this.
3:07 That end is going to be screwed onto the wall with a bunch of hinges.
3:11 And then the door is going to be bigger than the actual opening.
3:14 And then it's going to swing out this way.
3:16 And that will be our secret door.
3:19 Now, there is a lot going on right now.
3:21 We're building the secret door.
3:23 And at the same time, the new flooring has just turned up.

4:30 And we're also putting a light switch
4:31 for a big lighting feature hidden inside this wall.
4:42 Some of these tiles are so hard to get up.
4:45 Whatever this glue was, it's it's a good glue.
4:48 I need a bit of that glue to help me hold my life together.
4:51 Progress update.
4:52 As you can see, all of the floor tiles are up.
4:54 Some of them were a complete pain to remove to the point where they
4:57 were stuck down to the floor so much that they ended up ripping in half.
5:01 And you can see where the glue has
5:02 been applied in this sort of cross grid shape.
5:05 Those were like the worst bits.
5:06 If you got that middle bit here, you're picking these up with ease.
5:10 So, out with the old and in with the new.
5:12 Much more premium and efficient product.
5:15 While the floor is getting done in the room,
5:17 me and Rich are going to wrap the door
5:19 because AJ specifically stated that he hates this door.
5:26 We can't have no crappy door.

5:28 You want a door where you open, you're like, "Oh,
5:30 this is a door." If you're walking into this, you're thinking,
5:32 "Well, what kind of trap house am I going to?" We need serious door.

5:43 the flooring looks ridiculously quick and easy to lay,
5:46 but trust me, it only looks that smooth
5:48 because we had our top fitter on the job.

7:04 So, these planks do come as individuals.

7:08 They actually built this out on a piece of ply.
7:11 So, the idea is they've constructed it on their end
7:15 and they're just going to bring in the panels.
7:17 I'm just hoping that I gave them the right measurements for the background.
7:21 It's going to come in three pieces.
7:23 I think I have no idea how they're going to do this large piece at the back.
7:27 Surely it's going to be like multiple pieces.
7:30 H they should be arriving any minute now.
7:32 So, we'll find out.
7:33 We are also cracking on with the secret door.
7:35 Now, where there's a lot of drywall here,
7:37 we need to make sure that the door is super secure to the wall.
7:40 Otherwise, you know, it we don't want it falling off.
7:43 Won't really be a good secret then, would it?
7:44 I'm going to start off by sticking this wood to the wall.

7:51 So, this BN's now secured,
7:52 but it's not quite going to hold the weight of the door.
7:55 So, we have a backup solution.
7:59 Oh, look at that precision cut.
8:08 We're going to decorate the top part of the walls,
8:10 the like a little triangle bit.
8:12 Well, one side we're going to decorate it with a massive clock
8:15 and then the other side we're going to decorate it with a light feature.
8:18 It's going to be like a glowing moon, which is very exciting.
8:21 But that's not here yet.
8:22 But the clock's arrived, so we're going to fit that.
8:24 Now, on today's episode of Under Construction,
8:27 we're going to see how many health and safety protocols we can breach.

8:52 I reckon it'll be nice cuz you can also determine how low
8:56 or high they hang as well so we can offset them on different layers.
9:04 All right, let's talk about how we're going to light this side of the wall.
9:06 So, as you can see, we've got an LED
9:08 strip that's been fitted throughout the little cubes.
9:10 I'm going to now place a LED strip under
9:13 the cubes specifically for this panled section over here.
9:18 to show you guys what we're working with.
9:19 This is the LED channel.
9:21 So, this is like the back of it.
9:22 It's got sticky pads.
9:24 So, this is going to stick underneath the shelf.
9:26 And then this is a diffuser.
9:28 So, this cover slots on top of the channel.
9:31 Obviously, the LED light will be in there.
9:33 I've used this on many, many builds.
9:35 So, if you've seen any of my previous videos, this is the product that I use.
9:38 I absolutely love it.

9:40 So, doors been measured to size.
9:42 Hinges have been added on.
9:43 It's time to lift it up and see if it fits.

10:18 It was going as a scrap and the owner of the shop gave it to Rich.
10:22 Rich just, you know, had to flirt with him a little bit and that and uh yeah.

10:36 And that's the secret door pretty much done.
10:38 At this point, we were chipping away at the build one small job at a time.
10:42 As more deliveries arrived,
10:44 we could start adding finishing touches to things we already built,
10:46 like finally screwing in the door knobs onto the kitchen doors.
10:50 Also found this really clever power adapter
10:52 that sits completely flush in the worktop.
10:54 When you press it, it pops up to reveal a power socket and USB ports.
10:58 And when it's clicked back in, it doubles up as a wireless charging pad.
11:02 We built it directly into the kitchen island, so in the future,
11:05 AJ can power portable hobs
11:07 or equipment easily without traveling cables everywhere.
11:10 It's a small detail,
11:11 but it adds a lot of flexibility to how this setup can be used.
11:14 The dividing wall by the entrance also got wrapped in the same
11:17 finish as the top half of the walls just to keep everything consistent.
11:21 As you can see, it's actually become a really
11:23 useful area to house a lot of the electrics,
11:26 mainly the LED drivers and the wiring
11:28 that are going to power this entire feature.
11:31 Keeping it all tucked behind here means that the front stays
11:34 nice and clean whilst everything technical is hidden but also accessible.
11:38 Now, the next big visual change is happening here in the kitchen area.
11:42 We've just taken delivery of the herring bone walnut splashback.
11:46 Now, this was actually constructed offsite
11:48 and glued down onto a large plywood sheet.
11:51 So, now our job is simple.
11:53 Get these panels onto the wall.
11:55 And once they're up, the whole kitchen is going to feel completely different.
12:14 Niko was in the edit office that day,
