Why Pistons Star Cade Cunningham Owes Comedian Ron Taylor a Big Apology | The Rich Eisen Show

The Rich Eisen Show

0:00 What are your plans for your Netflix special?

0:02 Where are we on that right now?

0:03 So, what we're going to do is we're going to go out on the road.

0:05 Yeah.

0:06 Right.

0:06 And we're going to uh uh uh tour as much.

0:09 Hopefully, there's a new audience because of the competition.

0:14 And with that new audience and those new people, I can craft some new jokes.

0:18 I'll have some new experiences.

0:20 And then, I don't know, maybe six months, a year,

0:22 whatever the time frame is that we agree on, we'll do the next hour.

0:27 Okay.

0:27 Where do you want to do the hour?

0:28 Detroit.

0:29 You want to go back home?

0:32 M.

0:31 Do you get to choose the venue?

0:33 You know what?

0:34 Detroit would be nice, but I could I could imagine it being

0:37 filled with my family and them just yelling going,

0:40 "That's not true." So, I don't know if that's the wisest decision,

0:47 but Detroit would be wonderful.

0:48 Where?

0:48 Yeah.

0:49 I mean, let's do it.

0:49 Let's figure this out.

0:50 Where Fox Theater.

0:53 Yeah,

0:53 that's the one.

0:54 You go to the Fox Theater in Detroit, Michigan.

0:56 I've been there, believe it or not.

0:57 I I went there in college.

0:59 I saw the Jeffersons live.

1:02 The Jeffersons?

1:02 Yes, sir.

1:03 The TV show.

1:04 The cast of the Jeffersons did two episodes in the Fox Theater Live.

1:09 Sherman Helmsley and all of them.

1:11 What year was this?

1:14 1988.

1:15 Oh, wow.

1:16 1980.

1:16 You want to look it up?

1:17 I was like 10.

1:19 Yes, you I'm older than you, Ron.

1:21 We can establish that just by looking at the camera right now.

1:24 Looking on the screen.

1:26 But yeah, that and I just remember going

1:28 there and I just remember seeing that theater.

1:33 Yeah.

1:32 You know, and that is a jewel.

1:33 That is a jewel in downtown Detroit.

1:36 Yeah.

1:36 They say it's haunted, but uh

1:39 haunted.

1:39 I think any place that's been around for like a hundred years is haunted.

1:42 Yeah.

1:43 Somebody's died there at some point.

1:45 If you've been a structure for a hundred years, someone's died there.

1:49 Someone's got a grudge, you know?

1:51 So, they're not mean spirits.

1:53 I embrace them.

1:54 But Fox Theater is a beautiful place.

1:56 Okay, that would be that that'd be I don't know, man.

1:58 I I might feel like retiring at that point.

2:01 No, you're just getting started though.

2:02 You're just getting started.

2:03 Wouldn't that be great, though?

2:04 In all in all seriousness, your family, your friends, they go see you.

2:07 You've won this contest.

2:08 You're on Netflix.

2:09 You're in the Fox Theater in Detroit.

2:11 Let's go.

2:12 Yeah, that that that'd be great.

2:14 All right.

2:15 Which Detroit sports star would you want to appear with you?

2:19 Like maybe introduce you.

2:20 Let's go.

2:21 Let's get that going.

2:22 Someone from the Pistons, maybe someone from the Pistons of your youth.

2:26 Richard Hamilton.

2:27 Do we get Rip?

2:28 That'd be nice.

2:29 Rip on the stage.

2:30 Here's Here's Ron Taylor.

2:32 You know what?

2:34 What do we got?

2:35 Chanty Bilips is a bit uh he's a bit tied up right now.

2:38 Or he's available.

2:39 Either one.

2:40 I don't know.

2:41 I think he's a bit tied up.

2:44 Uh Rasheed Wallace would be wonderful,

2:47 but I know he hangs out in Portland a lot.

2:50 M you know what?

2:52 Jimmy Cade, he's doing well right now.

2:55 Kade Cunningham

2:56 would would come out.

2:57 By the way, people would go nuts.

3:00 Yeah.

3:00 But but Rasheed, you could potentially get like a streak in your hair and you

3:04 could you could you could pay homage to him a little bit right now.

3:08 Yeah.

3:08 I'll get a little patch and then

3:12 See, we could do that.

3:13 I remember that.

3:14 He was the patch man.

3:16 He He was I love I know.

3:20 What year was the Jefferson?

3:21 It was 1993.

3:23 So I went back to school for that.

3:25 No chance.

3:26 Uh this was Yeah.

3:28 So the show went off the air in' 85 and then they kind of reunited.

3:31 Not all of the cast, but it was April of 93.

3:34 Sorry to use your time in this manner,

3:35 but that was the last time apparently I was in the Fox Theater.

3:38 That's all right.

3:38 93.

3:39 Now I was two.

3:43 That makes sense.

3:43 I can deal with that.

3:44 We're getting closer.

3:46 Yeah.

3:46 in the present day.

3:48 Okay.

3:48 So, Cade Cunningham introducing you

3:52 at your first Netflix special in the Fox Theater in Detroit on Netflix.

3:57 Yeah.

3:57 And I'm going to need Kade to apologize to me as well.

4:00 Okay.

4:01 So, they were out in LA.

4:05 Okay.

4:04 Right.

4:04 The Pistons.

4:05 And I did a show at the improv and they were tight.

4:11 They were not laughing.

4:13 So, they were there.

4:13 The Pistons were went to a comedy show.

4:15 Yeah.

4:16 And you're on the stage.

4:17 Yeah.

4:17 They had a bunch of Detroititers, myself, CP,

4:19 comedian CP, and they did not want to laugh.

4:23 And it was crazy.

4:25 And finally, I just went up there and I said, "Hey,

4:28 you guys are not laughing like you all are doing well.

4:33 We're doing fine.

4:34 You guys are sucking right now." It would

4:38 be different if you all were the Warriors.

4:40 Y'all should be chuckling it up right now.

4:43 Uh-oh.

4:42 But you know what?

4:43 They're doing fine now.

4:44 Uh, they're doing great.

4:45 So, I'm sure they'd be a better audience.

4:47 So, yes, brother Cade,

4:48 I need you to apologize to me for being tight with your laughs back then,

4:52 and I want you to bring me out at the Fox.

4:55 Instead of apologizing, he owes you.

4:57 How does that sound?

4:58 Let's Let's Let's position it that way.

5:00 That That sounds right because that really hurt my feelings.

5:03 I've worked hard on those jokes.

5:05 You guys should have given it up.

5:07 Like, I've given it up to you all.

5:09 I was at the games you But it'd be nice.

5:12 Okay.

5:13 Very good.

5:13 And then we'll work our way up to the Palace at Auburn Hills.

5:16 We'll just keep on going till you're playing arenas.

5:18 How does that sound?

5:18 If if I'm not mistaken, that place might be closed now.

5:21 Oh, is that right?

5:22 Did I go Did I go now?

5:23 I'm back in the 1990s.

5:25 Oh, yeah.

5:25 Wow.

5:25 You've really you've really been around.

5:27 I'm an old man.

5:29 Little Caesar's Arena.

5:30 That's what we're doing.

5:31 That's it now.
