1:56 but some of those chips draw nearly twice as much power as, you know,

2:02 And furthermore, this is the screen we're going to be targeting.

2:06 I don't even know if it's 60 Hz.

2:08 For our motherboard, we've gone with the Asus RG Strix X870i.

2:13 And the reason for that is that while

2:15 I probably could stash a full-size computer somewhere,

2:19 there's a spot kind of here above the subwoofer like,

2:24 okay, definitely not in there.

2:25 Every pound counts, so it was important to keep our system compact.

2:29 Now, in a perfect world,

2:31 what I would have liked to do is just like take

2:33 this keyboard out of here and mount the whole thing inside the drawer,

2:37 kind of like we did with the IKEA desk PC.

2:40 But the aviation world is very restrictive

2:43 when it comes to modifications to planes,

2:45 which seriously limits our options.

2:48 Like even say putting a screw into here is a huge no no.

4:19 it's not the fastest or the tightest,

4:21 but it's still miles sorry above what we need.

4:43 you might be surprised by how much power gets drawn by the RGB LEDs.

4:49 Now, obviously, in a full tower where you're

4:50 already drawing like 600, 700 W, get out.

5:00 4 watts is not going to make a difference.

5:02 But we're targeting about 250 W and every little bit counts.

5:06 So, we'll be disabling that once we boot it up.

5:09 This is an older bird with very limited 120 volt power,

5:14 which is to say absolutely none in the cabin at all.

5:17 In fact, we might want to take a little break from building

5:19 so that we can show you how we're planning to power this thing.

5:39 First is because it was done a long time ago, thankfully on someone else's dime.

5:43 Second is because replacing them with USBC would be crazy expensive.

5:51 They were either 700 or $900 each for a USBC plug.

5:58 And that assumes that whatever company we get to install them

6:05 Finally, the inverter for this plane has a grand total of 960 W of power.

6:10 So, as soon as you start doing even 30 W PD at every seat.

6:15 That adds up.

6:15 You just used up half your budget that you need for the galley.

6:19 So, there's two food warmers.

6:21 There's an outlet for a kettle and there's

6:25 like this the world's wimpiest microwave oven.

6:29 All of that has to fit within that power budget

6:32 along with our PC which the genius plan because this is

6:35 the only AC outlet in the aircraft is to plug

6:38 into the kettle outlet and then run past the sleeping man.

6:48 Why can't we use something like a jacker instead?

6:49 Well, even a private flight is still subject to FAA regulations.

6:53 So, aside from the safety issues of having

6:56 a giant lithium battery on an airplane,

6:58 you're still limited to that less than 100 W hours.

7:00 So, you'd have to have like a bunch of them.

7:03 Am I allowed to bring this?

7:05 Yes.

7:05 Turns out that the FAA doesn't care about that.

7:08 You can bring any size blade you want on your own aircraft.

7:14 If you do anything with it, you'll still get in trouble when you land.

12:23 we went with the fully modular CIC Focus SGX 650 watt.

12:27 It might have been worth picking up something that was higher efficiency.

12:30 This one is only 80 plus gold.

12:32 But what we found is most of the higher

12:34 efficiency ones are much higher wattage units as well.

12:37 And if you're at the very bottom rated end of your power draw,

12:40 you can actually end up losing a lot of that efficiency.

12:43 All right, to get this PC to its final destination,

12:47 we'll need one more piece too soon.

12:50 An MSI Ventus RTX 5060 Ti.

12:53 Now, this is going to raise some Yeah, you lowered your eyebrows,

12:56 but sure, it's going to do something to some eyebrows, but hear me out.

13:00 Our main priority is performance per watt.

13:04 This little guy has a TDP of just 180 W, and with a bit of tuning,

13:08 we actually managed to undervolt it, so it draws even less.

13:11 Combine that with DLSS 4.5 upscaling and there really

13:14 isn't anything even close in terms of FPS per watt.

13:22 Now, we can't actually hook it up to this thing yet.

13:24 Technically, it does appear to have digital,

13:28 whatever that is, analog S video, composite, and SDI.
