2:45 They've been very gradually increasing how many machines they make.

2:48 I think they're up to four.

2:49 They got three laptops, the 12, the 13, and the flagship 16.

2:53 And they do a desktop as well.

2:55 And the whole stick about it is not just repairability, but upgradability.

3:00 For instance, if you bought a flagship framework 16 years ago

3:03 and you see that they've come out with new chips to upgrade it,

3:06 you can buy the motherboard and just slot it straight in.

3:10 If you bought one and didn't get the extra graphics cuz you're like,

3:13 "Ah, I don't think I'll need it.

3:15 I'll see how far I get." And you went, "Whoopsie,

3:17 I really should have gotten the graphics." You can just buy it AND ADD IT.

3:24 If it was a MacBook Neo, you have to bin it and get a whole other one.

4:04 but I need to sit with it for longer cuz you can do a lot of stuff with it.

4:08 But instead of a MacBook Pro and an iPad,

4:11 I got a Framework 16 and a Framework 12.

4:15 And it is just such a great looking machine.

4:18 Like the proportions, it's a bit chunk, but in such an endearing way.

4:29 Like they're a little bit softer than the middle plastic.

4:33 And yet on the bottom, I mean, why are these different colors?

8:55 And yeah, look, this is only a 13th gen i3.

9:09 It's only got the Intel graphics, the inbuilt one.

9:14 I mean, it's pretty crazy what the integrated graphics on an i3,

9:27 a little borus one you can build yourself.

9:29 It gets a little bit chuggy, but like it's not a gaming machine.

9:33 But you should see this thing run roller coaster tycoon.

9:39 So, um, this amazing hinge, uh, it doesn't end there cuz watch this.

10:44 This thing is seeming like one of the greatest machines

10:46 ever conceived with no downsides at all, which is a lie.

10:54 Um mate, the MacBook Neo is an insane price.

10:59 A way better screen than this thing.

11:01 better trackpad, better keyboard, and it's like this thin for less money.

11:06 Gosh, the siren song to go Mac OS nowadays is so loud.

11:10 Speaking of loud, these fans, this isn't an ARM processor, it's x86.

11:15 And um even though it's a lower powered little donk snug,

11:18 my goodness, it gets toasty.

11:21 It gets warm.

11:22 And it's interesting because that's the exhaust and that's the intake.

11:26 And so I guess it would be getting on its own supply a little bit,

11:30 but then also it means the bottom can be completely flat.

11:33 And so it actually couches and sits on a bed quite well.

11:36 Woo!

11:37 That storage module's getting hot cuz I'm running the whole machine through it.

11:40 Why am I running the whole machine through it?

11:42 I could just put an SSD into it.

11:44 Well, the SSD this thing takes is a 2230, which is a little bonkers tiny one.

11:50 That's one that basically no one has in stock because

11:53 it's one of the most useless forms of SSD storage.

11:57 It's perfectly chromulent as a storage medium, but it's just not popular.

12:02 You know, you're not going to find people using them as much.

12:04 Like an idiot, I didn't read the fine print when I spec this thing out.

12:07 And I was like, I got heaps of M.2s.

12:09 I I don't need to get more storage.

12:11 I'll utilize the stuff I've already got.

12:12 And yeah, I popped this open, realized it needed that one.

12:16 I didn't have it, but thankfully I did order this 1

12:18 TB module and it lets me boot straight out of it.

12:21 And so that's why I'm using that.

12:23 Uh the display on this guy, you know,

12:25 it's got the touchcreen and it's fully replaceable

12:27 and all that, but it is only 108060,

12:31 which is what we'd call bare minimums nowadays.

12:34 I'm fine with it.

12:35 What I want to use this for, which is like note takingaking,

12:38 uh when I'm making videos, I can just have like dot points to the side of me.

12:42 you know, my framework 16 is going to be

12:44 the mothership and this is going to be the support nug,

12:46 which is basically what an iPad is to a MacBook.

12:49 But if you really care about like really crazy vibrant displays and whatnot,

12:53 you know, this this isn't it.

12:55 MacBooks have some of the greatest speakers ever fitted to laptops.

12:58 You know, if that offends you, sorry, not sorry, but it's true.

13:02 MacBooks have insane speakers.

13:04 Most of my videos are edited straight out of them on the trackpad.

13:07 You're not going to do that with this.

13:09 They're kind of quiet.

13:10 They're they're just very mid.

13:12 Um, the keyboard's not bad.

13:15 You know, the MacBook Neo is going to absolutely thrash this thing.

13:26 what I would really love as an upgrade path,

13:28 if you do actually have an ARM powered processor, like one of the Qualcomm ones,

13:33 and you could sell it as like a a replacement motherboard,

13:36 and I can slot that baby into here and just

13:38 have ARM computing that would lift this thing so much.

13:41 I still love the little 13th gen i3.

13:44 There's something fun about having a slightly borky computer

13:47 in this world where everything wants to be as fast as possible.

13:49 It's very grounding and honestly, it works fine.

13:52 But the fact that there is the possibility of an upgrade path

13:56 to a completely different processor architecture and you

13:59 can just slot it straight in, mate.

14:01 Oh, and um this isn't magnetic and it just plugs in via like a regular whatever.

14:05 So, it's a little bit clunky with the flat spot.

14:07 You're kind of hoping that it [music] would like stick to it,

14:10 but as far as I can work out, it it doesn't.

14:12 You know, it's just something that just comes with you in the bag,

14:15 which isn't that big of a deal because

14:17 you're probably bringing a whole bunch of these anyway,

14:19 which are the most magical dingle dongles I've ever used,

14:22 and literally can work with anything.

14:25 So, the title of my video still isn't a lie.

14:29 cuz this feels like a machine that's got a future.

14:32 It's running Linux in a fully repairable chassis that has upgradability.

14:37 I did manage to find some 2230s

14:40 and amazingly they're [music] at the pre-inflated price.

14:42 Probably cuz no one's buying those 2230s, you know.

14:45 So got really lucky there and at some point

14:48 I'm going to pop it open and slot one in.

14:50 But once that's done, honestly, this is a fantastic little nug.

14:54 You know, I want to cook something in the kitchen and I I got the recipe up.

14:57 I can just stand it up like a like a tent

14:59 like this and it's so easy just to read the screen.

15:02 It can blow all the heat it wants out of you.

15:04 the fact that it is just a touchpad and I can just like walk around

15:07 and scribble stuff on it and make

15:09 quick handwritten notes effectively even without the stylus.

15:12 This is just a bonus.

15:13 You can just use your finger.

15:16 And um these frameworks come in more fun colors than the Neo.
