Bones Hyland made me Retire! Destroys Devinthelab

IN THE LAB

0:01 Oh,

0:03 I'm close enough.

0:04 Just stir that up.

0:05 HE JUST THROWING IT.

0:06 THAT'S WHAT THE I DO.

0:08 I'M A KILLER.

0:15 All right, I'm going to tell y'all this story.

0:16 And I promise you this is why I stopped playing basketball.

0:21 And not because I wanted to, because Bones Highland,

0:25 he's he single-handedly forced me to stop playing basketball.

0:29 He's a dreadheaded demon.

0:31 I never I never played against anybody this good 101.

0:35 I'm positive I played against a lot.

0:36 Y'all got to understand who I am though for those of you who don't know.

0:42 I really practice this stuff though.

0:43 Like I really do.

0:49 Everybody love that and everybody enjoy the show.

0:54 Did you have somewhere to be or no?

1:11 I'm good 101.

1:12 Anybody who really knows me know that's what I do.

1:15 Like I'm good 101.

1:16 I beat a lot of NBA players and I got

1:19 fried by a lot of 101 player or NBA players.

1:22 So, like one thing I always understood is

1:25 just because you're good ISO does not mean,

1:27 and this is coming at a great time because of this whole Austin River situation,

1:31 just because you're good ISO does not mean that you're

1:35 a good 101 player because it comes with a lot.

1:38 Just because you made the NBA, you I I'm telling you,

1:42 I beat a lot of NBA guys 101 bad.

1:45 You know, I understood that not everybody that makes

1:48 it to that level is a good 101 player.

1:51 They're just good in a team setting or some of them like Bones Highland,

1:57 they've been doing it their their whole lives.

1:59 For you to be a good one-on-one player,

2:01 you got to play it cuz you have to guard both ends.

2:03 That's what makes it so different.

2:05 We're going to have a talk about that later.

2:06 Now, you need to understand this.

2:08 So, this is back when I was doing the rankings.

2:11 You guys saw me do uh Spencer Denwitty and a few other players, right?

2:15 But I was I was going through a time like I was feeling really good and I

2:20 never forget it cuz I was playing and I'm

2:23 just I'm beating the brakes off of people.

2:26 I'm not even going to lie.

2:26 I was beating the break.

2:27 I was taking L here and there but for the most part I was feeling good.

2:30 But if you're like me and you're 30 plus,

2:34 sometimes you don't know when you're going to have a good day.

2:37 Sometimes you're having a good day and then the next day

2:39 or the two days after that you're like a a shell of yourself.

2:43 You know, one day you're dunking, the next day you can't even stop on a dot.

2:46 So, it's just like, some of y'all gonna know what I'm talking about.

2:49 When you get to 30, everything changes.

2:52 And I'm not a type of person that took care of their body.

2:55 A lot of people don't know this, but my dad was a major league baseball player.

2:59 So, I inherited like a lot of athleticism from him.

3:02 Like, I was dunking early, you know,

3:05 and but I never really trained it like that.

3:07 So, you need to understand that before I tell you this part.

3:10 So, playing against Spencer, um, I would I never forget it.

3:15 I took like maybe a thousand milligrams worth of ibuprofen.

3:20 I remember I had some in my pocket and I had to I

3:23 had to have it because I was I got hurt playing against Mike Smith.

3:27 I busted my heel and I couldn't really If you ever hurt your your heel,

3:31 you'll know that, bro.

3:32 It's like you can't explode, you can't land, you can't jump on your toe.

3:37 It's like really frustrating.

3:38 So I took I bro I was blew in the face

3:40 off of ibuprofen and I was able to get there that day.

3:43 If you look it was I had something

3:45 on my heel but I had something on my knee too.

3:47 So had a little something going on with that.

3:50 He fried me.

3:51 Whatever.

3:51 I know I'm not better than Spencer Dwin when I'm playing against these NBA guys.

3:54 I understand one thing.

3:55 If they get hurt it comes back on me.

3:57 So I'm like I ain't about to get I make sure nobody get hurt.

4:00 Long story short uh I just wanted to get all the ranking.

4:04 That was my only goal is just get

4:05 rankings and you know like really highlight players

4:08 and show that these NBA guys can hoop and it wasn't so much for me to win.

4:13 I at the time like about a month later I took like a break just trying

4:17 to get this heel heel better and I hit bones Highland and he hit me right back.

4:23 I was like oh shoot like I didn't expect that.

4:25 He was like he did come up here anytime like you

4:28 come up here like you know whatever a week from now.

4:30 So I was like oh shoot.

4:32 So I guess you know I got in the gym for about a few days tried to get right.

4:38 You guys know the story.

4:39 He fried me that first time.

4:52 I never forget Nesco when I when I

4:55 was about to play against Bones the first time.

4:57 He was like, "Yeah, hey, I don't know, Dev." Like,

5:02 "That's a that's a different dude." And I'm just like,

5:05 "What?" Like, "That good, right?" He's like, "Nah, no,

5:09 trust me." Like, there's nobody that's messing with him like that.

5:13 And I was like, "Dang." Like, for him to say it,

5:15 cuz you got to remember, I had played against Nesco.

5:18 Um, I forgot what what month it was, but Nesco was good, too.

5:24 But Bones, he's he's different, John.

5:28 He's different.

5:29 You gota remember this is when I was coming

5:31 back from San Francisco when I met Ryan Pilla.

5:36 So like during these times like I was frying people.

5:39 I was on ibuprofen that day too.

5:41 So when I played against Bones like it was, you know,

5:43 I got me a game but it was he was just frying me.

5:46 I took some time off and Bones hit me like just to come up there.

5:51 What y'all don't know about Bones is Bones just hoop.

5:54 Even if he in the NBA season, he wasn't playing in the Clippers.

5:58 So, I was getting calls from dudes like,

5:59 "Hey yo, Bones up here frying everybody." I was like,

6:02 "I told y'all he good." He was like, "Yeah." It was like nothing we could do.

6:05 So, and I'm and all this is going

6:07 to come full circle what I'm going to tell you.

6:09 So, I'm studying all Bones film when he hit

6:12 me up to to play like another time, right?

6:16 And I'm I came up, but I knew I wasn't ready, but I'm like, "You know what?

6:20 I can't pass this up.

6:22 I remember looking at myself.

6:23 I put on this outfit.

6:24 I'm like, why do I look fat?

6:26 This looks so fat in this outfit.

6:28 Like, I don't remember it fitting this tight.

6:30 Cuz I was strong because I wasn't like doing I was lifting,

6:34 but I wasn't doing no cardio, though.

6:37 So, but either way, I'm on timing.

6:38 And I knew my heel wasn't all the way right, man.

6:43 It was the worst mistake that I that I made in a long time basketball-wise.

6:52 Got a piece.

6:52 Got a piece.

6:54 Oh, he don't what?

6:58 You know it.

7:01 Oh, I missed it.

7:03 Shot boy.

7:07 Oh my god.

7:08 Get up.

7:09 I'm looking like all right.

7:10 Like he on time.

7:11 I'm on time, too.

7:12 So, we get out there.

7:14 Like I knew a lot of his moves and I knew it was a few moves

7:17 that I just couldn't stop no matter what

7:19 because this is I'm telling you what I know.

7:21 This is a different type of monster right here.

7:24 So two,

7:26 you know, I'm going to take that one.

7:29 I still No.

7:31 Four.

7:42 Peace off.

7:47 Peace.

7:49 Not so fast.

7:52 Playing good defense.

7:54 I'm hitting shots.

7:55 I win the first spot.

7:56 Like I'm like, "All right." You know, I know, like I said,

7:58 I know he going to he going to kill me eventually,

8:02 but I'mma get me a couple spots, bro.

8:05 It didn't turn out exactly the way I wanted.

8:11 Come on.

8:16 Losing that pistol three warm

8:27 he starts hitting shots and I'm like, "All right, all right.

8:31 I knew this was coming.

8:33 I'm ready for it, though.

8:34 Like, I'm about to, you know,

8:36 sit down." He does this move and I think he stops on a dime and Got it.

8:47 Damn.

8:48 heal, man.

8:52 Boom.

8:52 I heal.

8:53 I I just feel it right away.

8:54 And this is like the second game.

8:55 I was on piss.

8:56 Second or third game.

8:58 And And I knew it was going to be a a bad day,

9:00 but I had some ibuprofen in my pocket.

9:03 So So I popped the ibuprofen when he wasn't looking.

9:08 So I'm just hoping that it kicks in.

9:12 I'll try.

9:13 I'll try.

9:13 I'll I'll try it.

9:15 Oh yeah, we good.

9:17 And boy, when I tell you that he went off bump that brace right there.

9:25 He good.

9:25 Come on.

9:27 Sure.

9:27 I'll let you know when I can.

9:28 Okay.

9:28 Hide that over there.

9:31 Oh, I missed it.

9:33 Oh.

9:36 Oh god.

9:37 Oh my god.

9:41 We love pressure.

9:42 We love pressure.

9:45 We love Oh MY GOD.

9:47 OH MY GOD.

9:49 THEY FEELING IT, HUH?

9:51 Rush is a warm up game, baby.

9:53 We warm now.

9:56 Rush me don't work.

9:57 I love Russia, too.

10:00 Yes, sir.

10:01 Yes, sir.

10:02 Wait a minute.

10:03 I thought I held you off, baby.

10:06 What the heck?

10:07 wings down.

10:08 I thought you was way out of there.

10:10 I like that.

10:11 Don't have it no other way.

10:12 Step back.

10:12 I like that.

10:13 GET ON ME.

10:14 LIKE THAT.

10:15 ALL RIGHT.

10:15 GO.

10:16 Good go.

10:17 There was nothing I could do.

10:19 I thought I was playing good defense.

10:22 Nothing was affecting his shot.

10:25 I remember him asking me, "Do you want to like,

10:28 you know, stop?" I wish I would have said, "Yeah,

10:31 I need to stop, bro." But the pride in me was just like,

10:34 "All right, I got to lay some buck.

10:36 I redeem myself cuz you know last time was bad.

10:39 I got to at least earn some type of respect.

10:41 I actually lost it this day.

10:46 He He went on a rampage.

10:54 Never forget he went into the camera after I won and then he won another one.

10:59 He was just like, "Oh no, Dad." Straighten as an arrow.

11:03 Hell no.

11:05 Two zero.

11:05 You're not going to win another game.

11:06 The first one is a warm up.

11:07 Going for heavy.

11:08 We're not going.

11:09 We're not going for that man.

11:20 Were you taking a foul, too?

11:23 It was.

11:23 My bad.

11:24 My bad.

11:30 It was bad.

11:31 I mean, he was talking trash to me and you know,

11:34 normally I'm like the best trash talker.

11:36 You know, I had nothing to say.

11:39 And you may be wondering sometime like on some

11:41 of these clips like where are my buckets?

11:43 I wasn't getting them.

11:47 He he beat me 15-2 and I want to say he beat me 15 to zero one game.

11:56 All that you talking.

11:59 Yep.

12:00 Some of the games was slightly competitive,

12:03 but I never forget it cuz I was, bro, I'm dog tired.

12:07 He even pointed it out.

12:09 I'm not getting I'm getting out for two.

12:11 I win this.

12:13 And he wasn't close to tired either.

12:15 He he was attacking me like like a cone.

12:18 Like I felt like a cone.

12:20 And what made it worse is I was trying

12:22 to make some moves and drive to the basket.

12:26 I couldn't get that explosion that I wanted.

12:30 Insult to injury.

12:32 He started calling out my moves and he

12:35 may have blocked my shot about eight times.

12:38 Pissing too.

12:38 Say that too.

12:39 Y HIM UP.

12:40 He me up.

12:42 Come on.

12:43 I can't move right now.

12:44 I'm pissed off.

12:45 And what made it worse?

12:46 Like you know when you get tired,

12:48 this why I always talk about people getting tired cuz I'm a prime example.

12:55 When I get tired, I smoke layups.

12:57 I'll airball.

12:58 I do all kind of stuff that just not like it doesn't feel like me.

13:04 But it's me.

13:05 It's just a tired version of myself.

13:07 Oh Oh He kept hitting me with the same move.

13:11 This between the legs step back.

13:13 And the crazy thing about him, he can do it both ways.

13:17 Maybe I'm here.

13:20 I'm here though.

13:31 I want to foul.

13:32 I want I got to just hand check you, bro.

13:35 He's He's checking me up from half court

13:37 and shooting the ball from the logo like every time.

13:40 And I'm not used to guarding people that can shoot that far.

13:45 When he hang dribbles, the ball is so far away from me that I just can't Oh

13:56 My fault.

13:56 Cuz you look at him and think like, man, this dude's really light.

13:59 Like, I'm about to be body him.

14:01 You're wrong.

14:02 You're not going to You're not going to body him and you're

14:04 not going to be physical cuz he wants you to be physical.

14:07 And then he uses all your weight and all your force against you.

14:12 I don't know if it's bones weigh more or something, but the dude is strong.

14:17 It was this one clip that he drove hard left and he dropped me.

14:25 I'll take that one.

14:29 That body, man.

14:31 OH MY GOD.

14:33 WELL, I CAN'T TAKE THE SHOULDER.

14:37 NOW, as I'm seeing him celebrate,

14:41 I look at my cameraman and he's laughing at me.

14:44 I'm like, "Oh, yeah.

14:46 This is a lot worse than I actually thought it was.

14:48 I remember towards some of the last games my ibuprofen started kicking in.

14:52 I'm just like, "All right, like let me lock back in." So,

14:55 I started, you know, playing some good defense here and there.

14:57 Tot.

15:20 Get up.

15:22 Started getting some buckets and I had game point.

15:25 And I'm like, "Oh yeah, about to about to go.

15:28 At least I can end on a good note." Cuz if I win,

15:30 I'm the type of person if I win, I'm out.

15:32 Like I'm gone.

15:33 Like, you know?

15:40 Time.

15:41 Oh.

15:43 Yeah.

15:43 He did what Bones Highland does, bro.

15:55 I'm Close enough.

15:56 Don't shoot that.

15:57 I'm close enough.

16:01 I'm close enough.

16:02 Just stir that up.

16:03 HE JUST THROWING IT.

16:04 THAT'S WHAT THE I DO.

16:06 I'M A KILLER.

16:13 He embarrassed me.

16:14 It It was It was terrible.

16:16 What's What's crazy is I was embarrassed and nobody was in the gym.

16:22 It was just three people, me, Bones, and my cameraman.

16:26 But it felt like it felt like it was a crowd watching me.

16:29 And what made me feel a little bit better is when I got a call

16:35 and like three or four texts from NBA guys and one of them called me.

16:40 He was like, he was like, "Yeah, bro.

16:43 Like I can't guard him either.

16:45 Like I could it was a nightmare guarding him in practice." I was like,

16:49 "Oh god, I'm not the only person

16:52 that was going through that." You see Bones Highland?

16:56 You saw him on the bench of the Clippers.

16:58 And I was swearing to people like, "Hey, look,

17:00 y'all got a demon on this bench y'all don't even know about.

17:04 If he doesn't get in the game, they're doing the team,

17:07 the franchise, and disservice." Cuz he's the real deal.

17:11 There is nobody that I ever played against that's better than Bones Howler 101.

17:17 I got a text from Terry Hosy and he was like, "Yeah, that that boy cold." Like,

17:22 and he sent me some footage of him in the Brunson League.

17:25 He said he came late and dropped 70 points.

17:29 And I've seen footage of him in the Miami Pro League or something,

17:34 and he's just going nuts.

17:35 I think he got the MVP, won a championship,

17:37 but Bones Highland is the best 101 player I've ever played against,

17:43 and I want everybody to know it.

17:44 and all this Austin I've seen the Austin Rivers clips.

17:47 It's no disrespect.

17:49 Austin Rivers is not that old.

17:52 He's not that old.

17:54 There's nothing he could do or anybody.

17:56 I'm not It's not just the Austin Rivers thing.

17:59 They cannot beat Boss Holland and I would love to see you try.

18:03 I'll set it up.

18:04 I know a way that NBA players can play oneonone on ballers like I'll set it up.

18:09 I'll put the paper up.

18:11 You can't beat them.

18:13 you can't beat him.

18:14 And he'll tell you that too to this day.

18:17 But I never play against him again.

18:19 I never play against Bones Holland again.

18:20 I'mma just watch from afar and laugh at everybody

18:23 and I'mma tell them I told you so.

18:26 Cuz he there's he's the toughest cover that I've ever had to deal with.

18:31 And I played against a lot of your favorite players.

18:35 A lot of them.

18:36 Some retired, some still in the NBA.

18:40 Could touch them.
