Trump rants against Fox News, Bill Maher for interview with Gavin Newsom | RISING

The Hill

0:05 Bill Maher did an interview with California Governor Gavin Newsom

0:08 for show on Friday and President Trump was not a fan.

0:14 [laughter] I was making Lindsey laugh in between the commercial break.

0:16 Okay, Trump wrote a long truth social post blasting Maher.

0:20 He also called out news outlets like Fox

0:24 News and their positive coverage of Maher's interview.

0:26 He wrote in part quote, I hate seeing Fox and other

0:29 conservative outlets constantly making low-rated Bill

0:32 Maher quote relevant as it pertains to the Republican Party and beyond.

0:36 Bill Maher is a weak and ineffective person who I got

0:39 to know very well during my dinner with him at the White House.

0:42 Trump went on to accuse Maher of not doing a good job of interviewing Gavin

0:46 Newsom allowing the governor to lie about

0:48 the facts with regards to his state of California.

0:52 He ended his rant by saying,

0:53 don't use Bill Maher any longer as a representative of you.

0:57 I hate hearing that Bill Maher said,

0:59 Bill Maher is a though slightly more talented than Jimmy Kimmel.

1:04 Trump manifests this pathological hatred of Bill Maher

1:07 that I don't understand and especially because they had dinner.

1:10 Well, and especially because Bill Maher is

1:12 by is not the most critical person of Trump.

1:14 At all.

1:15 Uh honestly, Bill Maher's Bill Maher annoys many on the left because what he

1:22 mostly does is to try to steer

1:25 liberals toward not voting for the Democratic Party.

1:29 So, I don't know why you would complain about him.

1:31 Um he he is he is funny.

1:34 I think he's funny.

1:35 I I I'm a fan.

1:36 I I I've made no secret of the fact

1:37 that I'm a fan and I don't understand why Donald Trump

1:40 is so he he sound he comes across sounding like

1:42 a jealous ex-girlfriend or in the way he describes Bill Maher,

1:46 but um But I don't I really I want to like spend a day fair?

1:51 I don't know.

1:51 Tell us what you think in the comments.

1:52 That's how I feel it is.

1:53 I'm I try to like understand the president's mindset.

1:56 Like the way that Mom Donny has come at him

1:59 before they decided to have a bromance is interesting.

2:02 The fact that they moved on from that.

2:04 Um the way that he berates certain people and then decides to become friends.

2:07 How does Bill Maher who went to dinner with you who like you said annoys a lot

2:11 of Democrats because of the things that he constantly

2:13 says about wokeness and a bunch of other things.

2:16 Right.

2:17 How did he become your enemy so much that you

2:19 are attacking him in the same way as Jimmy Kimmel?

2:21 Like Jimmy Kimmel finds at least one thing a day to say

2:24 Jimmy Kimmel goes hard and it's impolite and it's uh you know,

2:29 Bill Maher makes And also,

2:31 Jimmy Kimmel is unilaterally focused on just bashing Trump.

2:36 Has he made a joke at Democrats' expense ever in the last decade?

2:40 Whereas Bill Maher uh criticizes Trump, makes fun of Trump.

2:43 He is an equal opportunity offender.

2:44 He makes fun of everybody.

2:45 And that's really what I want from my comedians.

2:47 A sense of uh of uh you know,

2:50 equal you you you give it you give and you get you know what I'm saying.

2:53 Right.

2:54 Across the board.

2:55 He he keeps having on you know, liberal comedian He had on uh David Cross,

2:59 hilarious from Arrested Development and many other things.

3:02 And uh you know, was explaining to him why socialism is bad.

3:05 Putting him on the defensive about socialism.

3:08 Those are useful exercises.

3:09 But maybe this is less about Bill Maher

3:11 watch the Gavin Newsom part, so I I don't know how bad it was.

3:14 this is less about Bill Bill Maher

3:15 and more about Newsom being a viable candidate Yeah.

3:18 in the next election and Trump trying to make sure that if Newsom did sound

3:22 smart and like he knew what he was going to be running on in his agenda,

3:25 Trump wanted to point out what the inconsistencies might

3:28 have been by telling people don't listen to him.

3:30 Sounded good, looked good, but might not be good,

3:31 but it's like you're speaking from a pedestal

3:34 where we just saw the latest polls come in and you were in the same boat

3:37 as Newsom from saying you going to do one thing,

3:40 but then delivering and looking at your record and saying something else.

3:43 Your record's going to be that you didn't deliver if we just base it off

3:46 the last year and a half that overall

3:48 to the average American you didn't deliver.

3:50 So, I would say just maybe stay out of this conversation.

3:54 Allow J.D.

3:54 Vance who I know is going to Iowa,

3:57 I believe this week to start to start his campaign about

4:00 how he's a little bit of a different president to you.

4:02 And if you really would like to help the Republican Party,

4:05 let the next person take the lead on trying to bash Newsom and try to figure

4:08 out what that strategy is going to look like because it can't be this one.

4:11 Trump Trump knows that Newsom is at this point I think we

4:18 can be fair and say like the most not not by any certainty,

4:22 but the most likely next leader of the Democratic Party.

4:26 know that I agree, but Okay.

4:28 I don't think it's a foregone conclusion at all.

4:31 I think it's just all things being equal he is positioning himself pretty well.

4:36 I mean, the prediction markets have him as the most likely Democrat.

4:40 I guess things could change.

4:41 It's early.

4:42 He could decide he's not running.

4:43 Kamala could decide she is.

4:45 They could split the vote in the way that leaves

4:48 a lane open for AOC or someone we've never heard of.

4:52 Um the party could be really disciplined and decide, you know what?

4:55 The governor of Pennsylvania is the electorally correct choice to win this race.

4:59 Many things could happen,

5:00 but I I think he's I I think he's positioning himself fairly well and I

5:06 think Trump knows that honestly cuz Trump

5:08 is a pretty pretty politically savvy actor.

5:12 And so, he's already getting out in front.

5:14 He wants constant bashing of negative coverage of He wants

5:18 to make Gavin Newsom name completely toxic um because uh

5:25 because there's a good chance it will be Newsom against

5:28 Trump's successor successor assuming that's probably going to be J.D.

5:32 Vance, but again, not a foregone conclusion.

5:35 that Trump still has a vendetta specifically I'm going

5:37 to say it about Newsom really promoting that whole taco idea.

5:41 And if we look at Yeah, the taco Trump always Trump always checking out.

5:45 I'm not going to laugh because what you did is You already got your laughs out.

5:47 Yeah, I already got it out.

5:48 I already got it out.

5:49 But I think that a little tickling.

5:50 I think that the president doesn't like that Newsom

5:53 actually And it's more than just the taco thing.

5:54 It lands.

5:55 Every time Newsom makes a joke or mocks the president, people find it funny.

5:59 You don't find it funny, but a lot of people take traction to it.

6:02 Social media thinks that he's savvy because

6:03 of how viral his tweets go when he responds.

6:06 Okay, but you you're not the audience.

6:09 So, the audience finds him to be entertaining

6:12 and a lot of people think he's meeting fire with fire.

6:13 So, even though he won't be responding to Trump

6:16 in the next election because Trump can't run again,

6:18 he's responding to him right now in a way

6:20 that people think is some people funny and you know,

6:23 a unique response like fire meets fire as opposed to complaining about oh,

6:27 Trump's going to ruin democracy.

6:29 They they've tried that.

6:30 People don't believe that fully.

6:32 That's why they voted for him again.

6:33 I would prosecute the case against Gavin Newsom by reminding

6:36 voters that he was a supporter of a COVID totalitarian state.

6:43 I have to We have to remind voters because everybody

6:45 wants to memory hole COVID cuz it's such a horrible time.

6:48 But no, no, no.

6:49 Things States were governed differently

6:51 and that state was governed in accordance

6:54 with the most risk-averse uh Karen type uh mask up, social distance,

7:00 close the beaches sort of public health nanny tyranny of all and we

7:06 could not we cannot let anyone involved in that preside over our country.

7:11 I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news,

7:12 but I think slowly as we get days and years months away from COVID,

7:17 the island that you sit on with this tirade that you want

7:19 to be on against everything and everybody

7:21 related to COVID gets smaller and smaller.

7:23 And so, it'll just be Robbie alone

7:25 I will wave I will wave the bloody shirt to make people remember

7:29 I don't think it's going to be relevant.

7:30 Bring it up on stage.

7:31 Well, you did this in COVID.

7:32 People are going to be like, what?

7:33 This taco The economy still is bad.

7:35 What are we talking about?

7:36 You're talking about COVID 6 years ago.

7:38 That's fine.

7:38 You know, I don't I think you're going to be the only one standing,

7:41 the last man standing to argue that COVID I will be an army of one.

7:45 And that's continuing to fight this war.

7:47 Like And you're going to still hope that So, J.D.

7:49 Vance say I'm going to try to prosecute Fauci?

7:53 Fauci.

7:53 That's what he should run on and that's going to be a winning issue.

7:55 It's a winning issue for me.

7:56 No, I think the people are going to say you're voter.

8:00 COVID.

8:00 [laughter] I will Whoever is least likely to make us go through that again.
