RNC Gruters: This President's Been Going to Bat for the Average American Worker

Bloomberg Podcasts

0:00 I think the voters will respond in November favorably.

0:02 And I don't always believe all these polls because if I did,

0:05 the president Trump wanna be elected,

0:07 right now and enjoying the this time in the White House.

0:10 So I look at at those numbers breaking down just a little bit here.

0:14 More Republicans, 18% now disapprove of president

0:15 Trump's overall job performance than than in March.

0:18 And, again, going through these data,

0:19 you you can kinda see that drift upward in a number of these these categories.

0:22 Is it at all worrisome to you?

0:24 Is it is it incumbent on president Trump

0:26 to do more to kinda bring those numbers back down?

0:28 No.

0:29 One of the numbers that I look at in polling is

0:31 we're actually doing better when it comes to generic congressional candidates.

0:34 And listen.

0:34 We have a plan in place.

0:36 We have the right candidates.

0:38 We have the financial superiority.

0:39 We have the president's willing to go out there and barnstorm the country,

0:43 and we're gonna win by embracing the president, embracing this administration,

0:47 and making sure their candidates are in lockstep

0:49 with, the mission that he's trying to to, to push forward.

0:53 So that's what you're telling your candidates,

0:54 not to run away from the president, but to run towards him even at a time when,

0:58 I know you don't like the polls,

0:59 but the numbers are are not necessarily reflective of, of an American

1:03 public that's that's fully behind all this president's policies.

1:07 This president's been going to bat

1:08 for the average American worker since day one.

1:10 Look at the big beautiful bill.

1:12 The, the no tax on tips, overtime, Social Security,

1:15 45% of the people who have already filed

1:18 their tax returns have experienced some type of benefit.

1:20 You know?

1:21 And I think that overall,

1:22 everything that the president's doing to help people try

1:25 to go out there and achieve the American dream,

1:27 I think it will resonate with the American people.

1:29 And that's why, yes, a 100%,

1:31 our candidates need to embrace the president, embrace his agenda.

1:34 And, if they do that, we're gonna be successful in November for sure.

1:38 I mean, traditionally,

1:39 the economy is one place where Republicans have done really well,

1:42 but the numbers here are not quite as strong.

1:45 61% disapprove of how the president is handling the economy.

1:48 That's up slightly 58% from March.

1:50 Among Republicans, even in your own party, it's 23%.

1:53 That's up from 17% in March.

1:55 I'm wondering if you think the president is focusing enough on the economy,

1:58 especially ahead of an election where this is what everyone is talking about.

2:02 I'm from Colorado.

2:03 Everyone back home is talking about affordability, paying,

2:05 for gas and getting food on the table for their kids.

2:09 Affordability will be the number one issue in November,

2:12 but people how soon people forget that under Biden inflation,

2:15 we had the highest gas prices ever.

2:17 We had the highest inflation ever at 9%.

2:19 The president, when he took office, he immediately got that under control.

2:23 And, yes, we're experiencing a temporary, issue with the conflict in Iran.

2:27 But I always tell people this is short term pain for long term gain.

2:31 The president understands and feels and has empathy for the people out there.

2:35 He wants everybody to go out there and be able

2:37 to to live their life and and, like I said, achieve the American dream.

2:41 But like I said, for forty seven years,

2:43 American presidents denied the the the the and and ignored

2:48 what was happening in Iran and delivered pallets of cash.

2:51 This president actually stood up and said, we're gonna take care of this.

2:56 And it listen.

2:57 High, political risk, low political reward,

3:00 but he did it because he knew it was the right thing to do.

3:03 And I think by November, we're gonna be, back.

3:06 I talked to secretary Bessent.

3:07 We're gonna be cranking.

3:09 The president's, fully committed doing whatever we can,

3:12 to to move things along, and I expect things to happen.

3:15 So you say affordability is the main issue here,

3:16 but you opened the door to us talking about the the war,

3:18 which, of course, is is front and center right now.

3:20 Mentioned gas prices as well.

3:22 So eight out of 10 Americans say higher

3:24 gas prices are a strain on on their finances.

3:27 I'm curious of what your message is

3:29 to those Americans who you're asking for patience from.

3:32 What what's your message to them who are

3:34 worried about being able to fill up their tank,

3:36 worried about the consequences of this war perhaps dragging on?

3:39 Well, like I said, short term pain for long term gain.

3:42 America will be a thousand times better off without a nuclear weaponized Iran.

3:46 And this president's doing what should have been done a long time ago.

3:51 I'm thankful that that and for him and his administration

3:55 and the leadership that he's showing to do the right thing.

3:58 It's not always what's, the the politically easy to do,

4:01 but it's doing the right thing to make sure that he's putting all

4:03 Americans and making sure that we're safer not only here at home but abroad.

4:07 But short term pain for long term game, I mean,

4:10 that's a that's a nice thing to ask people

4:12 to do and give you the benefit of the doubt.

4:14 But if you're really struggling, if you're paycheck to paycheck,

4:16 you don't have months and months to be under this kind of financial duress.

4:20 And I wonder if you think Republicans have enough running room.

4:23 November is not that far away.

4:24 This is not something you can just turn the switch back on.

4:27 Do you really think that this is gonna

4:29 get resolved and prices are gonna go down before

4:30 voters go to the poll and have to make

4:32 a decision whether to give this party, another chance?

4:35 I do.

4:35 I always have thought this, conflict was temporary.

4:38 I know the president's working on it.

4:39 I know right now the conflict is has ceased,

4:42 and, and they're trying to do everything

4:44 they can to bring gases prices back down.

4:46 But don't forget, under Biden, it was more, and there was no conflict.

4:50 So the fact that we're we're at today, although it's painful, it is temporary,

4:55 and the president's totally committed and focused to making sure we

4:58 can get prices back down to where they need to be.

5:00 Let's talk a bit about redistricting.

5:02 So there are these elections in Indiana this week,

5:04 and candidates the president backed,

5:06 defeated other Republicans in in the state of Indiana.

5:09 I'm curious what that says to you.

5:10 Yes.

5:11 About the electorate,

5:11 about your approach to to the job and the influence that the president

5:15 has in kind of determining who

5:16 should be congressional candidates in this election.

5:18 Well, listen.

5:19 The president is the leader of our party.

5:20 I always say if you get an endorsement from the president,

5:23 it's like a fast pass at Disney World.

5:25 You go right to the front of the line, you're gonna win.

5:28 And what happened in Indiana, you gotta remember,

5:30 the voters of the country gave the president Trump

5:33 a mandate with not only the winning every single,

5:36 swing state, but also the national popular vote.

5:40 And the Indiana, legislators thought that they

5:42 were they knew more than the president.

5:44 They didn't step up when they needed,

5:46 and, obviously, they faced the consequences of their actions.

5:49 This president runs the party.

5:51 Everybody is united within the team supporting president Donald Trump because we

5:55 believe in what he's trying to do in terms of move America forward.

5:59 And, and I think that as a result,

6:01 we'll we'll all be much better off as a party.

6:04 I'm wondering if you think the loyalty to president Trump is potentially hurting

6:09 the party's longevity because this is a president

6:13 who legally cannot run a third term.

6:15 Will the party know its identity?

6:17 Who are you without president Trump, and should candidates and individuals like

6:21 yourself be working more to define that?

6:24 Well, we have such a deep bench within the Republican party,

6:26 and we have so many issues we could run on where the left,

6:29 they just keep on running further and further

6:31 to the left away from the mainstream.

6:33 And as a matter of fact, the Democrat party have they have no issues because

6:37 they used to be the party of the working man.

6:39 And for, you know, not only them,

6:41 but for fifty years, Washington elitists have abandoned them.

6:44 And it was this president that that when he was elected went to bat for them.

6:49 And so as a result, they have no

6:50 issues other than the fact they hate the president.

6:52 I call it not only Trump derangement syndrome.

6:54 I call it American derangement syndrome.

6:56 It looks like the left is always rooting

6:58 against our country with everything that we're doing,

7:00 whether economically, foreign policy,

7:02 and their candidates are becoming more and more radical.

7:05 So and they have no bench.

7:07 They have these left left wing lunatics

7:10 that are winning these primaries, and as a result,

7:13 it gives us an opening to to to be

7:16 in the the mainstream of where people wanna be.

7:18 And I'm expecting big things from our candidates in November,

7:21 and I think we'll have a chance to defy history.

7:23 Only four times in the last hundred and fifty years

7:25 have has the incumbent party been able to win that midterms,

7:28 and I think that we have a great chance of doing this November.

7:31 Let's talk about how you're gonna deploy money going into the midterms.

7:33 So you have a sizable financial advantage over

7:35 the the Democratic party here going into those midterms.

7:38 How are you gonna deploy that money,

7:40 to kind of meet that objective that you described,

7:42 bucking history and and having that Republicans hold onto their majorities?

7:45 Well, you gotta look at the the maps that we have.

7:47 And and on the senate side, we have great candidates like Rogers in Michigan,

7:51 Sununu in New Hampshire, Wally in North Carolina.

7:54 Senate, I think we're gonna pick up seats in the house

7:58 with all the gerrymandering that's occurred

8:00 and all the redistricting across the country.

8:02 You're looking at really,

8:04 there's only 35 competitive races in the entire country.

8:07 With those with the financial resources that we have,

8:10 we're sitting on a 120,000,000 at the RNC.

8:12 I think the DNC is sitting at minus 4,000,000 according to last, reports.

8:16 And when you combine the fact

8:18 that we're gonna have coordinated campaign limits change,

8:20 at the supreme court level that will expand that number,

8:24 it's going to be lights out for the democrats.

8:27 We are gonna do everything we can to make sure we win these races.

8:30 When the president asked me to serve as the chairman of the national party,

8:33 he said he had one goal, and that's win the midterms.

8:36 We've been laser focused on that.

8:37 We have a plan.

8:38 We're executing that plan.

8:39 As a matter of fact, we we hired our first 17 state directors

8:43 and deployed them a couple of weeks ago.

8:45 That's our first wave, and we were beyond the ground,

8:48 preparing for our get out the vote activities and making sure that we have

8:52 election integrity teams on the ground to make

8:54 sure these elections are safe and secure.

8:56 But we have the resources we need.

8:58 We have the messaging that we need,

9:01 and we have the the the president who has obviously already

9:04 proven that they could turn out low propensity voters three times.

9:08 And, yes, he's gonna we're gonna be working with him as he

9:12 barnstorms the country in these districts that matter when it matters.

9:17 And, of course, we're gonna have things like the mid midterm convention,

9:20 which has never happened before.

9:21 That Trump a palooza.

9:22 We've seen the term.

9:24 We've heard you talk about it.

9:25 What's it going to be?

9:26 Tell us a bit about it.

9:27 I revisit would my question about Trump

9:29 and the identity of the Republican party here, but we're running out of time.

9:32 So go ahead and ask the answer about Trumpapalooza.

9:34 Well, Trumpapalooza is gonna be amazing.

9:36 It's it's our way to highlight all the amazing things the president

9:40 has done with real life examples with some of our great candidates,

9:43 with some of our great elected officials,

9:46 and we're gonna use that and to catapult

9:48 the president as he goes and barnstorms the country.

9:51 That will be the kickoff, and we're gonna we're gonna run,

9:54 and he's going to campaign because we know what happens if the Democrats,

9:58 somehow, win the house or the senate.

10:00 They're gonna investigate.

10:01 They're gonna obstruct.

10:02 They're gonna impeach.

10:02 They already said what they were gonna do.

10:04 We have to make sure we come together and give the president a full four years,

10:08 keep this momentum going.

10:09 He's the best president we've ever had,

10:10 and we gotta do everything we can to support him and his administration.

10:13 When and where do we expect Trump a plaza to take place?

10:17 I would expect somewhere, we are still finalize finalizing those details,

10:21 but I would say late summer right before early voting starts.
