0:12 This is all this is all within the guise of around campus and quarterback names.

0:18 And I know some of our listeners right now will say,

0:21 why are we doing this around campus again?

0:23 We have Will Howard, we have Drew Aller.

0:26 You know, folks, I hope that at some point

0:29 this season we rip up the around campus list.

0:34 Will Howard has proven he can he he deserves to his shot in 2027.

0:38 Drew Aller has proven he deserves his chance to be the guy in 2027.

0:42 But until that moment happens,

0:43 until we feel like the Steelers have their franchise quarterback on the roster,

0:48 we shall continue with this exercise.

0:50 And oh, by the way, they're going to draft somebody in the first round,

0:53 whether it's a quarterback or not.

0:55 It's not so bad to know some of these names now.

0:58 And what's crazy when you go through these names

1:00 is it should be no shock to anybody,

1:02 but so many of these dudes, as you know better than me,

1:06 weren't even on this team, you know, last year, you know?

1:09 It's like, oh, he was stuck behind, especially now,

1:12 Like Klein was stuck behind Lovelin at the tight end position in Michigan.

1:17 and then he just went to Michigan or whatever,

1:19 you know, like their their backstory is a long conversation.

2:05 I don't look at him as a no-brainer top two overall pick.

2:08 Like, I think he should have come out this year unless he really hates going

2:12 to the Jets because I think he'd have been the second pick, don't get me wrong.

2:16 I just don't look at him as holy cow, I've never seen anybody like that.

2:22 I don't look at any of these guys like that to be fair including Arch

2:34 Dante Moore is he is elite when everything breaks down around him

2:40 he seems very accurate

2:50 and that's a that's really hard tool I think to develop.

3:24 He's got a big arm and that is is is enticing.

3:28 Um but he's got some issues with consistency and I just

3:32 I want to see him put it together again for another year.

3:34 I'm not surprised that he's a first round mocked quarterback.

3:37 Three though is probably the highest we've seen him.

3:39 Yeah, I think of some of these early ones that Todd did and Dne etc.

3:44 He's been in about half of them,

3:45 but usually in the second half of the first round,

3:48 not like a top five pick, right?

3:50 I'm not saying it's impossible, folks, but yeah.

3:52 Uh, so three quarterbacks in the first three picks

3:55 and the Cleveland Browns are doing jumping jacks to take Jeremiah Smith,

3:58 wide receiver at Ohio State, fourth overall.

4:01 Who their quarterback is, but I don't think Smith's going to last till fourth.

4:06 that would be uh I'm sure Cleveland would run

4:08 to the podium and figure out the rest later.

4:30 I mean, Panthers might have a better chance to win the division of the Steelers.

4:38 to win the Steel or longer odds to win the Super Bowl than the Steelers.

5:35 um and will be uh you know after leading Tain to a very good season last year um

5:40 heavily sought after

5:41 was was one of the heavily soughtafter guys in the portal and has a has

5:44 a real chance to make himself a name uh at a big program in Miami.

5:48 So there's four in the top eight picks in terms of the quarterbacks.

5:53 He's got two more and they're names that we've discussed a little bit.

5:56 Number 12 to the Vikings, CJ Carr, the quarterback out of Notre Dame.

6:01 Not real mobile from what I understand, but he's good passer.

6:04 He kind of I've started to see some Bo Nicks comparisons for him

6:09 and that I I I Nick's a good runner though.

6:12 I I would say and I think CJ Carr has

6:14 the athleticism to kind of again play out of that structure.

6:18 Uh but I don't and I don't want to make this a knock

6:21 because Bo Nicks is a fine NFL quarterback.

7:04 So like the we'll be into the college football playoff by the time he turns 21.

7:08 He's a true sophom well is entering his true junior season,

7:12 you know, was was a was just a true sophomore.

7:16 Um played two years at North Texas,

7:18 was a walk-on zero star recruit out of high school.

7:21 He wasn't even a starter in high school,

7:25 right?

7:24 You know, I just dug that nugget up since we were together last.

7:27 And I was going to save that for off the c off campus,

7:29 but I mean like it's just crazy that he has burst on the scene to this degree.

7:35 And the way people talk about him,

7:37 it's not I mean like the talent is really really impressive.

7:40 He was a safety and a punter his senior year of high school.

7:44 Yeah.

7:43 He only threw 17 passes his senior year of high school,

7:46 which is nuts.

7:47 Probably mop-up duty.

7:49 Zeroar recruit.

7:50 Walked on at North Texas two years there.

7:52 tore it up and followed his head coach uh Eric

7:56 Morris to uh Oklahoma State where he just replaced Mike Gundy.

8:00 Now to be fair, his his high school teammate

8:02 was heavily recruited and went to Louisville as a quarterback.

8:05 That's why he would have started 99% of high school.

8:08 His high school quarterback was like a four-star recruit who went to Louisville.

8:12 But still, I mean, it's bonkers that he

8:13 was not a high school starting quarterback.

8:15 He may have zero high school starts

8:17 and he was maybe the most soughtafter guy in the transfer portal last year.

8:25 Mensah at Miami was a big one.

8:28 Um, you know, there were a couple more of those guys like always.

8:32 Sam Levit was one of those guys, but he's uh you'll see how I have

8:37 this tiered when we do around campus when we return.

8:40 But, uh, one of my tears is this guy could be a a first round pick.

8:45 This guy could go on day three.

8:46 We just need a larger sample size.

8:48 And I'm sure there's a lot of that.

8:49 And memaker is one of those, but I think he's got the biggest

8:52 chance to hit of all those one assist for another year type guys.

8:57 Is it safe to say in this mock too, I mean,

8:59 I know I don't want to spend too much time harping on the quarterbacks

9:01 just because we're going to do a whole segment on it next hour.

9:04 Is it does he also have a lot of tackles,

9:09 receivers, high I mean premium positions?

9:12 It seems like this draft class, I know it's really good at running back,

9:16 really really good at running back, but at least projected to be.

9:19 It It sounds like most of these way

9:22 too early mocks also have premium positions going early.

9:25 It's not downs at safety, love, love a running back.

9:29 There's plenty to pick.

9:30 A lot of wide receivers, a lot of edge rushers, a lot of tackles.

9:33 Colin Simmons, edge rusher from Texas at five.

9:36 Uh Guzby, the tackle from Texas,

9:38 who we talked about last week, six to the Raiders.

9:41 Dylan Stewart, edge rusher from South Carolina, who we talked about last week.

9:44 Seven to the Saints from what I understand.

9:46 Yeah.

9:47 Um, let's see here.

9:48 Another edge rusher at 11, wide receiver at 13, edge rusher at 16,

9:54 offensive line at 17, edge rusher at 18, wide receiver at 19,

9:58 edge rusher at 20, offensive tackle at 21, edge rusher at 22,

10:02 offensive tackle at 23, wide receiver at 24, edge rusher at 25.

10:06 I mean,

10:07 not a lot of guards and tight end at 26.

10:10 Maybe that's the first nonp premium position.

10:13 Okay.

10:13 And then a couple more here, you know,

10:15 offensive tackles and wide receivers uh going

10:18 in the back half of the first round,

10:19 including Ahmad Hardy, the running back from Missouri, who's going to be

10:23 a really interesting, really interesting conversation.

10:25 He's kind of like built like a bowling ball.

10:27 He's impossible to bring down.

10:29 Um but yeah, that that's just interesting me

10:31 because we continue and I listen, I'm not naive.

10:35 I realized this time last year people were having the same

10:37 conversations of wow there's going to be four five six

10:40 the grass is always greener yeah I mean I get that all that

10:43 but it's like it's like you talk about this with salary cap stuff

10:46 eventually you have to eat your vegetables

10:48 eventually the bill becomes due eventually

10:51 we are going to have one of these years where it's another five

10:54 or six quarterbacks taken in the first round and I think this feels like

10:58 you know ever since that year of of Caleb

11:00 Williams and Drake May and Jaden Daniels

11:02 and Bo Nicks and this feels like We were

11:05 we're heading towards another draft class like that one.

11:07 Yeah.

11:08 And frankly, again, this this doesn't excuse

11:11 anything that if you don't like a pick,

11:13 but this past draft just wasn't very good top to bottom.

11:16 I mean, it didn't have premium players.

11:18 It was short on it was short on blue chip guys at any position.

11:24 Yeah, it was short on premium positions.

11:25 And I really thought once he got into like the fourth round,

11:28 like when the Steelers started taking returners, you know,

11:31 it was like, man, there's just not much to get excited about early day three,

11:36 let alone the sixth, seventh rounds.

11:39 It's that's kind of always the the eb and flow you're hoping to Yeah.

11:44 And it's a weird time in college football, obviously,

11:46 with people staying longer and transfers and all those things,

11:49 but I got to think it's going to even

11:51 out soon and start pushing more talent to the league.

11:55 And just they're gonna have to event there's going

11:58 to be some type of all this transfer portal stuff

12:01 is going to come to a head at some

12:03 point and there's going to have to be some parameters.

12:10 A lot of people have have tweeted and asked like can you give us a list

12:13 of around campus of the guys who have to come back and those who don't.

12:18 Trinidad Chambers Trinidad Chamblas's case was just decided a month ago.

12:22 you know, like so it's that's it's not as cut and dry as it used to be.

12:27 And I can't imagine the NFL wants that to continue.

12:30 No, I bet they don't like that at all.

12:31 I bet they do not like that at all.

12:33 Now, it it helps you get a head start in next year's scouting process, but

12:36 that's really rough on scouting staffs in general.

12:38 Like, I' I'd like to know who I'm supposed who's going to be in the draft.

12:42 If you were one of these teams and underassman don't declare anymore.

12:44 There used to be a million underassman declaring.

12:46 Absolutely.

12:47 And if you were one of these teams that was

12:49 gung-ho on drafting a first- round quarterback last year

12:53 and you don't find out until late March, early April if Trrenidad Chamblas is

12:59 going to be draft eligible or not, right?

13:01 Cuz he's him and Old Miss are fighting in court with the with the NCAA.

13:04 Like there's no way they want that stuff to which to your point,

13:07 they probably are now ahead on the scouting report for next year.

13:11 But it's going to change drastically.

13:12 He said play 12 games in between and he might

13:14 and here come all these other crop of draft eligible

13:17 he might do something stupid off the field or you know whatever you

13:20 know like that that yeah it's great to have that baseline but come on

13:23 and you're saying you know I would have loved

13:24 to have drafted him in the second round last year right

13:27 but now I think I can get someone just as good in the third round this year

13:30 you know like yeah so it's it'll be very interesting to see how it all plays out

13:33 the more I think of it though the more Moore and Chambish should have came out

13:37 I think so I mean just in terms of solidifying an early draft spot that.

13:42 I mean, it's not like they're going to be poor.

13:44 They're not making any money.

13:45 I mean, they have a pretty good gig, don't get me wrong, but you know,

13:48 I think I think you're spot on on that one.
