Using the iPhone Air...Again

0:15 I have now acquired an iPhone Air.

0:28 Uh and I just wanted to like I just wanted us

0:33 the review went out fairly soon after the embargo,

0:36 and then now it's been a while, and I've been using it for a few days.

0:40 So, I just wanted to talk about some feelings.

0:43 Well, I can give you my timeline and how it's gone.

0:45 I was I reviewed all the phones at the beginning,

0:48 and when I was done reviewing all the iPhones, I stuck to the 17 Pro Mhm.

0:53 as my main iPhone for a while.

0:55 And that's usually how it goes.

0:56 I usually have the Pro.

0:57 I use the cameras a lot.

0:58 That's the whole point of me carrying an iPhone

1:00 is the things that the iPhone does well.

1:02 And so, I've just been carrying that phone for a bit, but it's orange,

1:06 and I swear to god that started getting on my nerves faster and faster.

1:11 And eventually, yeah, I just started testing this other phone

1:14 that where actually I can talk about now.

1:15 It's the Oppo Find X9 Ultra.

1:17 And the video on it is coming later,

1:19 uh but it's got these incredible cameras and this incredible battery life.

1:22 So, what better time to see if I could use

1:25 the iPhone with the worst cameras and the worst battery life.

1:28 Yeah.

1:28 So, I flipped to the black iPhone Air.

1:31 And it's been, I think, maybe 2 weeks now since I switched to it.

1:36 A couple things have happened.

1:37 One, uh I've gotten really used to the thin and lightness of it.

1:41 It's not just the thinness, it's the lightness that really gets you.

1:44 You put it in your pocket, you forget that there's something in your pocket.

1:47 That never happens with other phones.

1:49 So, that happened a quite a few times.

1:51 The other thing is um I just stopped trying to use zoom,

1:56 like ultra-wide and zoom stuff,

1:58 which I default do on the pro iPhone all the time.

2:01 Uh it bummed me out, but I just stopped using zoom, obviously,

2:06 cuz there's no ability to zoom out or zoom in with any sort of quality.

2:09 Uh but I'm using this other incredible camera phone with this huge battery

2:13 and these amazing cameras and I'm taking all my pictures and videos on that one,

2:16 so it's been fine so far, but we'll see how long that lasts.

2:20 Yeah, my my first few days I was going to drop

2:23 it a thousand times because of how thin it is.

2:25 It's almost hard to grip because of how thin it is.

2:28 Interesting.

2:29 Um it's also hard to get out of my pocket.

2:31 I have to put it in my pocket like this so

2:32 that I can grab the camera bar and pull it out.

2:35 You know, maybe I'm doing that weirdly, but that's what I've been doing.

2:42 You know, he has to change his habits so he can have a lip to pick.

2:45 Well, that's why I'm asking.

2:46 Did you change it specifically for this?

2:47 No, I did not.

2:48 I just kept putting my hand in my pocket and being like, "Oh,

2:50 it's face up." Oh, so you always have put your phone in your pocket

2:56 Not usually, but for some reason apparently

2:58 this phone has made me start doing that.

3:00 That's the weirdest thing I've ever I've never heard that before.

3:04 It's very weird.

3:05 Um other thing, I you know, I'm plugging it in a lot more,

3:08 but it hasn't really been bugging me that I'm plugging it in a lot more.

3:11 the battery is so bad.

3:12 It's pretty bad.

3:13 Like I'm used to a good battery and this one I mean, I'm at 80%.

3:18 I haven't really done much of anything.

3:19 I navigated here in the morning and that was the only thing I've done on it.

3:22 But you probably didn't Did you use your phone to navigate here?

3:24 Yeah.

3:25 Oh.

3:25 So it's been on Waze and then on and usually

3:27 I'd get here at like 93 or 94% or whatever.

3:30 Yeah, I'm at 74.

3:32 I've done almost nothing with it.

3:34 The other day I asked everyone in the office that uses an Air,

3:37 aka Marques, Brandon, and Rich, What's your battery?

3:40 Yeah, what's your battery?

3:41 And Marques was like, "Oh,

3:41 I think I'm at like 70 something." Rich was like, "Oh,

3:43 I just took it off the charger, so I'm pretty much topped off." And Brandon's

3:46 just staring at me from across the room.

3:48 And it's like 1:00 p.m.

3:49 and he's like, "I'm at like 38." Yeah.

3:52 Yeah, thanks.

3:53 Yeah, and that's about how it feels.

3:54 I was at the gym the other day at 1:00 at 1:00 p.m.

3:58 I was at like 12%.

4:00 Yeah.

4:00 And so if you're using it multiple apps,

4:02 like I was using a couple of like music apps,

4:04 podcast apps, you know, the fitness app,

4:07 it it can drain pretty pretty damn quick.

4:09 Um I have gotten used to the thinness of it now and I'm not like,

4:14 you know, dropping it.

4:15 The main problems I'm finding.

4:16 Mhm.

4:17 One, when I'm traveling, I use the 4x telephoto lens a lot cuz I shoot in like

4:22 Halide or the Moment Camera Pro app and not having that sucks.

4:27 Yeah.

4:27 And I know that most people said that they didn't

4:29 want to buy this because it didn't have the ultra-wide.

4:31 I never really use the ultra-wide,

4:32 so that's not really a problem for me, but the 4x lens, trash.

4:35 And then the second thing is that I use this very specific app

4:39 called Viewfinder Preview that helps me

4:40 shoot ultra-wide panoramas on my film cameras.

4:44 Mhm.

4:45 And that uses the ultra-wide camera,

4:46 so I literally cannot main this if I'm going

4:49 out to like take pictures with my 3D printed camera.

4:52 Yep.

4:52 So.

4:53 Yeah.

4:54 Yeah, kind of a problem.

4:55 Yeah, we have our shortcomings.

4:56 We all expect the next iPhone Air to have a second camera lens.

5:17 you technically have a 2x lens built in with this optical zoom." Yeah.

5:24 Yeah, they love saying that, but it really doesn't translate that well.

5:27 Well, we just saw the Huawei full like

5:30 wide foldable that's going to be released, right?

5:32 And that has three lenses on it.

5:34 So if they can do that in an ultra-thin body, like come on, Apple.

5:38 Well, I just want to say a few weeks ago we did

5:40 a community post on YouTube talking

5:43 about which secondary lens is everyone's favorite.

5:46 19% of people said the selfie,

5:48 31% of people said the ultra wide, and 50% of people said telephoto.

6:36 older phone and you're thinking about buying an Air, you're like, it's fine.

6:38 It's going to be a totally fine phone.

6:40 The battery life's kind of cheeks, fine, whatever.

6:43 But it would be so good with two or three cameras and a silicon carbon battery.

10:02 And now they're all doing lens manufacturers and camera manufacturers.

10:05 They're like Zeiss and Leica and Hasselblad.

10:11 that most people know who these companies are.

10:16 Those companies might just need the extra money from licensing the most.
