Survivor’s Christian Hubicki Confronts Jimmy After Shocking Survivor 50 Elimination (Extended)

Survivor’s Christian Hubicki Confronts Jimmy After Shocking Survivor 50 Elimination (Extended)

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

0:01 -Christian, welcome to the show.

0:02 -Thank you.

0:02 -Thank you for being here.

0:03 I have a lot to say.

0:06 -Do you?

0:07 -Yeah.

0:07 If you haven't watched last night's episode

0:10 of "Survivor" yet, plug your ears.

0:15 Here's what happened.

0:15 -Okay, please tell me.

0:17 -I have— Here's my version of the story.

0:18 -Regale me.

0:19 -Thank you.

0:19 Yes, I will regale you.

0:20 So, I talked to Jeff

0:22 and I have all these crazy ideas for "Survivor."

0:23 I'm a big fan of the show.

0:25 So I come up with these ideas, and he calls me back.

0:27 And they have great producers on the show,

0:29 and they go, "Here's this idea that we have."

0:30 And I go, "Oh, I love this.

0:32 This is perfect.

0:33 Great." And it is a twist called the

0:34 Jimmy Fallon One in the Urn Twist.

0:37 And— Hold your applause.

0:39 And on last night's episode,

0:42 you got the chance to complete a puzzle.

0:44 Now, if you did it,

0:45 you could write someone's name down as a secret vote

0:48 for the next Tribal Council.

0:50 Cheers and applause] But if you didn't finish the puzzle,

0:53 you had to write your own name down at Tribal.

0:58 Long story short...

0:59 you voted yourself off of "Survivor 50."

1:02 -Yeah.

1:04 -And it might have been my fault.

1:06 And we actually have a clip from your last Tribal Council.

1:08 Take a look.

1:11 -This is a message for Jimmy Fallon.

1:15 How dare you?

1:16 This idea that you had— it's terrible.

1:18 No more ideas for you.

1:20 I look forward to your apology.

1:24 Cheers and applause][ Sad tuba plays]

1:30 -Now that we're both in the same place,

1:33 all I have to say is,

1:34 Christian, I am so sorry.

1:38 I am so sorry about this.

1:40 It wasn't supposed to be like this.

1:42 It wasn't supposed to be you.

1:44 And I felt so bad because I love you.

1:46 -Well, it was a roller coaster being there, I'll be honest.

1:47 -Yeah.

1:48 -But, I mean— And I am sorry,

1:51 but, technically, you made history last night.

1:54 No one's ever voted for themself...

1:56 -Yeah.

1:57 -...in 50 seasons of "Survivor."[ Cheers and applause]

2:02 -Look...

2:03 -What does it feel like writing your own name down?

2:05 -You know, it's a surreal experience.

2:07 You go there to, you know,

2:09 theoretically vote other people off the island.

2:10 And I'm like, "What am I doing here?"

2:12 In fact, I was up in the voting booth

2:14 and I have to write my own name,

2:15 so, of course, I write a delicate script, you know,

2:17 because, you know, it's my own name.

2:19 I want to treat it with respect, of course.

2:20 -Yeah.

2:20 You're a classy, classy gentleman.

2:22 -As one does.

2:23 And I'm basically just like, "I'm just going to do

2:25 my five-minute set roasting Jimmy Fallon."

2:27 So I just decided— I was like, you know, finally,

2:29 all my frustrations in this game

2:31 I can take out in the best way possible

2:33 on a celebrity 8,000 miles away.

2:35 So I did a whole five-minute set with jokes about,

2:37 you know, my distaste for the advantage.

2:41 -Jeff called me, actually, as they were editing the episode,

2:43 and he was like, "Hey, Christian says a bunch of funny stuff,

2:46 but I don't know— do you care if we leave it in?"

2:48 I go, "Leave it all in.

2:49 You have to.

2:50 Give the guy something."

2:51 -Well, unfortunately the episode is only so long,

2:53 so they did cut some things.

2:54 Like, you know, I think—

2:55 -You don't have to say what you said.

2:57 It's alright.

2:57 We don't— -I didn't blame you for famous incidents

3:01 in history, such as the Titanic and/or Hindenburg.

3:03 I would not blame you for those things.

3:05 -But you didn't finish the puzzle, which, by the way,

3:08 you're the puzzle king.

3:09 -Yeah.

3:11 -And then the puzzle flipped out into the water.

3:13 And then you had to come back to camp

3:15 and tell everyone the truth.

3:17 What were you thinking on that boat ride?

3:18 -Well, I mean, on the boat ride home,

3:20 I had no idea what you gave me.

3:21 It was a letter that you packaged up to me.

3:23 And so I was supposed to read this letter back at camp.

3:27 And, so, I had no idea what was in it.

3:28 So if I knew what was in it, I could be like,

3:30 "Okay, what kind of story, what kind of thing

3:31 can I pretend that this is or spin it in some way?"

3:35 But I have to read it in front of everyone.

3:37 And then I was like, "Oh, you have to vote for yourself."

3:39 I was like, "Well, I have very little time to improvise here."

3:41 -But you were great and you're very fast on your feet.

3:44 In real life, what is your job?

3:47 -I'm a robotics professor,

3:49 in case you haven't noticed, from the shirts.

3:50 Crowd cheers] Hey, thank you.

3:52 Thank you.

3:53 We love people who love robotics professors.

3:54 -Yeah, I like— So, I love robotics.

3:57 -Yeah.

3:58 -Do you think robotics could ever help you

3:59 if you were ever deserted on an island?

4:01 -Well, I mean, it was very helpful

4:02 on "Survivor," in some ways.

4:03 I mean, like, you know, just being a science professor

4:05 who does lecturey things.

4:06 Like, you know how to start fires with glasses.

4:08 You know, we did this in the first episode.

4:10 We started a fire with some nearsighted glasses, right?

4:13 You can use search algorithms to look for idols,

4:15 which I've done and, you know, explained at

4:17 great length for people who care

4:19 And— But, also, there are things

4:21 that you never prepare for as a professor to do on the island.

4:24 Like, I had to do this whole fake heist

4:27 at Tribal Council, where I was like—

4:29 -That was genius.

4:29 -Oh, thank you.

4:30 So, I had to create a distraction

4:31 for my buddy Rick Devens.

4:32 We all love Rick Devens.

4:33 -Yeah.

4:34 -Yes, yes.

4:34 Please give it up for Rick Devens.

4:36 You know, where— -You tripped—

4:37 -On purpose.

4:38 I tripped on purpose.

4:39 Which is not— Again, that's not part of—

4:41 When you go to robot school, you don't learn to do that.

4:43 -No, no.

4:44 -But you do it anyway.

4:45 When the moment calls for it, you do it.

4:47 -So you, as a distraction— -Fall down.

4:50 -So that Rick could hide—

4:51 -Everyone else was looking elsewhere to me,

4:52 and he hides a secret idol, "fake idol," at Tribal.

4:55 -It's incredible.

4:57 -Actually, this whole season has been incredible,

4:59 and, honestly, I got to say, you are one of the best players

5:02 to do— to ever play "Survivor."

5:04 And I felt— And I love you.

5:06 -Thank you.

5:06 That's very kind.

5:07 -And you're a young man,

5:09 which means that you could always come back

5:11 if they decided to ask you back.

5:12 And I think you should come back.

5:14 And I just think that you're fantastic.

5:16 And I really want to say I'm sorry again.

5:19 -Hey, apology accepted.

5:20 -Alright.

5:21 That's what I'm talking— Very good man.

5:22 The best.

5:24 -Of course, of course.

5:26 -I can't wait to see you on the jury.

5:28 -Oh, yeah.

5:28 It's going to be a lot of fun.

5:29 It's a fun season.

5:30 Check it out, seriously.

5:30 -It's the best season.

5:32 Also, Jeff Probst, from this show,

5:35 the audience decided that he should be in a challenge.

5:38 -Yes.

5:38 -This was a legendary episode.

5:40 And you beat Jeff Probst.

5:41 -What can I say?

5:42 Cheers and applause] Come on, bud!

5:44 So you got that going for you, as well.

5:45 -Exactly, exactly.

5:46 Yeah.

5:47 -Thank you so much for coming on the show.

5:49 And thank you for accepting my apology.

5:50 You're a good man.

5:51 I'll see you again.

5:52 -Thank you.

5:53 -Christian Hubicki, everybody.

5:54 "Survivor 50" airs Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m.

5:57 on CBS and Paramount+.

5:59 We'll be right back, everybody.
