Bibi BLAMES SOCIAL MEDIA For Anti-Israel AS NYT HORRIFYING Report Drops
Breaking Points
0:00 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his splashy
0:03 60 Minutes interview on Sunday night,
0:05 which Crystal and I covered yesterday also made some
0:08 comments in regard to what he sees as rising anti-semitism.
0:12 And he has a theory of why this is apparently happening.
0:16 It is related to, you guessed it, social media.
0:19 Let's take a listen to this first thought.
0:21 We have seen the deterioration of support for Israel in the United States almost
0:29 uh I would say it correlates almost 100% with the geometric rise of social
0:35 media and that by itself is not what caused it and I I don't
0:39 believe in you know in censoring them
0:42 or anything but I'll tell you what happened.
0:44 We have several countries that basically
0:47 manipulated social media with bot farms,
0:51 with fake addresses to break the American uh sympathy to Israel,
0:57 to break the American Israeli alliance
0:59 because they think it's in their interests.
1:02 And they do it in a clever way.
1:03 You know, it's like uh you hear a text message.
1:06 I'm a, you know, red-blooded Texan.
1:08 I always supported Israel, but I can't stand what they're doing.
1:11 I'm turning against Israel.
1:12 And then you trace the address to some basement in Pakistan,
1:16 you know, and that's that's something that has hurt us badly.
1:20 While we were fighting the physical military
1:22 battle on seven battlefields, seven front war,
1:26 we were completely exposed on the eighth front,
1:29 the media war, really the the social media war.
1:32 in a healthy uh political climate,
1:35 he would be asked to apologize for those comments
1:37 because he is implying that the American people are so
1:39 stupid that dumb little text messages are what swayed
1:43 them to start especially he's talking about the American right.
1:46 You can hear because he talks about this red-blooded American Texan.
1:50 that's his way of talking specifically about Republican voters,
1:53 conservatives, right-leaners in the United States,
1:56 uh are just so dumb that their opinions
1:59 can't possibly be informed that if they have lost,
2:02 if they are if their support for Israel is declining,
2:04 it's because they are misinformed, ill-informed, disinformed,
2:09 or too stupid uh to actually just have an opinion
2:13 that differs uh from Prime Minister Netanyahu's as Americans,
2:16 by the way, people who believe their country's interest,
2:18 their interest, their family insurance interests,
2:20 their their uh children's interests are out of line with the party that Netany,
2:26 the Lood party essentially.
2:27 And Saga, toss this over to you with also the news that Israel
2:31 is now is bragging basically about banning Tyler Ala from entering the country.
2:37 This is the next element.
2:38 It's a Laura Loomer exclusive.
2:40 She posts uh Israel's minister of diaspora and coma
2:43 combating anti-semitism exclusively tells me quote it was his pleasure
2:47 to make sure Tyler Alivera could not enter Israel
2:50 today upon landing in the country from the US.
2:54 She mentions of course also that Tucker just completed
2:56 an interview Tyler just completed an interview with Tucker Carlson
3:00 in which which they bashed Israel with lies and then
3:03 Tyler hopped on an LL flight to Israel sagger.
3:07 So, it's all just an op uh from foreign countries manipulating Americans,
3:13 manipulating Tucker Carlson, uh using him.
3:17 He's he's all this is all from foreign money.
3:19 It's couldn't possibly be American people saying this is what is in my rational
3:24 interest based on uh the best information that they could come up with.
3:27 Yeah, you really should read actually uh what this guy said,
3:30 the minister of the diaspora.
3:31 He says, "The party is over.
3:33 Anyone who comes here with this aim of spreading
3:35 hatred will be sent back where they came from.
3:38 This follows the implementation of the new policy entry into Israel or activity
3:41 within Israel will not be permitted
3:43 for anyone who disseminates anti-semitic content,
3:46 supports BDS or incites against the state of Israel and the Jewish people.
3:50 The rule is simple.
3:50 Whoever incites against us simply will not be here.
3:54 And of course Tyler Olivivera to my knowledge, you know,
3:58 the video which they are the most upset with him about is the uh
4:03 one about I think it's was a hetic Jewish community I think in New Jersey.
4:07 Okay, listen.
4:08 Go watch it, you know, for yourself.
4:10 You can decide, you know, whether it's anti-semitic or not.
4:13 I would say it fits within the broad catalog of the work that they've done.
4:17 And that's I mean to me that's the hypocrisy.
4:20 Like if he does a video about uh like illegal migrants in Europe,
4:25 everybody loves him, right?
4:27 Yeah.
4:27 At least right-wingers, but they love Somalians.
4:29 They love it.
4:30 Uh oh, no, you can't do that, right?
4:33 And see, that's the problem.
4:34 And that's, by the way, why that guy has what,
4:36 like 9 million subscribers on YouTube.
4:39 This is We're just a politics show.
4:41 This is like a cultural phenomenon.
4:43 It is.
4:44 My favorite Oliver's video is when he went to like
4:46 Alabama and tried to find people who had kissed their cousins.
4:49 Like this is the content America needs.
4:52 Like this is like culture.
4:53 You know what I'm saying?
4:54 Like it's like pop culture era stuff.
4:56 Like this is a YouTube tier which we are never going to be in.
5:00 Don't want to be
5:01 We send Ryan Grim out to Alabama and try to find cousin kissers.
5:04 Could be interesting.
5:05 We could send Ryan Grim to find fish fans uh in Alabama.
5:07 That would be uh just it'd be like uniting of brothers.
5:10 Uh but I think the point you know that remains here is
5:14 they view it as a social media problem not a reality problem.
5:19 And you know look it's trit and it's funny Tyler Olivera.
5:22 Haha.
5:23 Okay that's not serious.
5:25 What's serious are stories like the one we're about to show you
5:28 which actually really do shock the conscience and make you go huh.
5:34 Is this something that you want to be either complicit
5:38 in or supportive of andor you know it makes you just
5:43 think is this the country which we were told that it
5:46 is right and I think for a lot of pe
5:48 a lot of younger left lefties humanitarians what happened in Gaza
5:52 is really shocking uh from a right-wing perspective it's also
5:56 been the humanitarian but the the biggest discomfort comes
6:00 from the level of control over discourse in our own country, right?
6:04 Is because you really start to be like, well, hold on a second.
6:07 You know, not some bleeding heart liberal,
6:09 but you don't get to tell our bleeding heart liberals what to say and or do,
6:12 and you definitely don't get to throw them in prison, right?
6:15 Like, that's our business.
6:16 It's not your business.
6:17 And that's what I think really starts to great,
6:20 I think, and it becomes something that's now happened altogether.
6:22 It's been almost 3 years since October.
6:25 It just blew the doors really off of this.
6:27 And then, you know, finally,
6:28 it's long-winded way of getting to the New York Times story,
6:31 but I do think it's important because the reaction now
6:34 from the pro-Israel diaspora or the Israeli government to the story pales
6:40 in comparison to the way that they reacted when Ryan and many
6:45 others started investigating the claims over mass rape on October 7.
6:51 And look, this is the most difficult and uncomfortable
6:53 thing to talk about, but so be it.
6:55 You know, it's become a ma major part of the discourse around this subject.
7:00 The point remains that the New York Times story,
7:02 which they published about mass rape on October, screams without words.
7:07 Screams without words, had several holes within it that did
7:11 not hold up to serious journalistic scrutiny.
7:15 I'm not saying necessarily it didn't happen,
7:16 but many of the claims that they made within that that were investigated again,
7:20 not just by Ryan, but many others that looked into them systematically,
7:24 many of them did not hold up over time.
7:27 Okay.
7:27 So then let's compare that, and I'm going to let you set this up to this now
7:30 New York Times story from Nick Kristoff
7:33 about rape of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody.
7:36 Well, yeah.
7:37 And let's just also I mean Ryan is always very careful to say this.
7:39 He thinks the chance that there was no rape on October 7th is zero.
7:44 is it is not it is unrealistic to say
7:47 that there was no sexual violence or rape on October 7th.
7:51 Almost certainly there was and there is evidence.
7:54 The question is whether these claims were uh inflated for the sake of propaganda
8:00 and then misreported by outlets who uh
8:03 had lapses in journalistic uh ethics essentially.
8:07 And now this is being turned around
8:09 against New York Times columnist Nick Kristoff.
8:12 He is on the opinion side of the paper and he ran this story just yesterday.
8:17 We can pop it up on the screen here.
8:19 D4 uh the headline is the silence that meets the rape of Palestinians.
8:24 He started by saying it's a simple proposition.
8:27 Whatever our views of the Middle East conflict,
8:29 we should be able to unite in condemning rape.
8:32 Supporters of Israel made that point after the brutal sexual assaults against
8:36 Israeli women during the Hamasled attack on Israel on October 7th, 2023.
8:41 Now, he's very clearly starting on a point of agreement
8:45 with many of the people who are now his detractors.
8:48 He goes on to say, "Yet in wrenching interviews,
8:51 Palestinians have recounted to me a pattern
8:54 of widespread Israeli sexual violence against men,
8:57 women, and even children by soldiers, settlers,
9:01 interrogators in the Shinbet Internal Security Agency,
9:04 and above all, prison guards." Now,
9:08 people took issue with the fact that Kristoff
9:10 cited a report from the Eurommed Human Rights Monitor,
9:14 which people who are pro-Israel see as anti-Israel and biased for that reason.
9:20 Kristoff in the piece, I will say,
9:22 he does describe it as quote a Geneva based advocacy group,
9:25 often critical of Israel.
9:27 So, in the piece, he caveats
9:28 the evidence with that identifier descriptor of Eurommed.
9:33 But we can go on.
9:35 probably the biggest piece of information that he included
9:38 in the piece were allegations of trained dog uh sexual abuse.
9:45 So this became an absolute u this became a an absolute
9:52 attack against him on X from people like Deborah Lipstat.
9:56 We can put this next element up on the screen.
9:58 This is D5.
10:00 Uh this was Lipshat uh saying the New York Times I know who she was.
10:05 So she's she's a premier Holocaust scholar
10:08 who also was the Biden administration's anti-semitism.
10:12 Very very big supporter.
10:14 So like a center left center left.
10:16 Yep.
10:16 Yep.
10:16 Exactly.
10:17 Uh so they Adam Lewis Klein publishes this graphic that says
10:21 the New York Times published the anti-ionist dog rape liel.
10:25 Uh and Deborah Lipshack quote tweets this.
10:27 have they the New York Times
10:28 no sense of decency and journalistic responsibility.
10:32 Uh the Adam Lewis Klein Post compares the New
10:34 York Times to Dar Shurmer uh and includes Striker.
10:39 Yes.
10:39 And includes the reminder as uh one New York
10:43 correspondent from Herets notes that Striker was quote hanged.
10:49 Mhm.
10:48 I mean the fire Nick Kristoff social
10:50 media graphics were blazing all over X yesterday.
10:55 Continue this morning.
10:56 continuing this morning
10:57 from the Israeli government, too.
10:58 Let's be clear.
10:59 It's not just about commentators.
11:00 We're talking about the government of Israel, like the prime minister of Israel.
11:03 Yes.
11:04 And it there there have been efforts to debunk
11:07 over and over again the Kristoff story and and Saga,
11:09 I just want to toss this to you.
11:10 I read the story after reading the backlash to it.
11:15 So, I read the Yeah.
11:16 With all the caveats in your head.
11:18 Yes.
11:18 So, I read the story and I expected
11:20 it to be much different based on the debunking
11:25 because the debunking of the story is actually really
11:28 a debunking of a couple different pieces of it,
11:31 but not the broad picture of the story.
11:33 Yeah.
11:34 So, it it they're mad about Eurommed being cited, but actually
11:37 there's like one particular account that they call
11:40 into the question the motives of the Now, why are we going through all this?
11:43 Because what they're saying is that that's
11:44 evidence that the entire thing is made up.
11:46 And at the end of the day,
11:47 it's firsthand account from what is it 14 Palestinian men and women,
11:50 lawyers, human rights workers, family members,
11:52 the detailed account of rape and sexual assault with objects,
11:56 genital abuse, forc searches by mixed gender groups,
11:59 threats of rape used to intimidate detainees into silence
12:01 or cooperation with intelligence services victims including men,
12:04 women, and children as young as 15.
12:07 And yeah, go ahead.
12:08 Well, I was say it's not just Euromemed.
12:10 It's also Betsm.
12:11 There are other groups that are cited in here.
12:13 There are other people than the person who
12:14 has this this story uh that is horrific about
12:19 being raped by a dog who is as a prisoner
12:23 uh that the the identity of that person who goes on the record is then being
12:26 called into question by uh people who support
12:30 Israel and are trying to debunk the story
12:32 because they say this person is supportive of terrorism.
12:35 and they are again on the record in this New York Times piece,
12:39 but they are not the only source in the story.
12:41 And when I went into the piece after reading all of the debunking,
12:43 I expected it to be a story that was mostly based around
12:46 the EU Euromemed report and this one person's um this one person's claim.
12:52 No, as you just pointed out,
12:53 it is multiple human rights organizations reports and it is 14 different people
12:58 that Kristoff interviewed and then the New
12:59 York Times obviously vetted in their editorial process.
13:03 They have attorneys.
13:04 So, do I think the New York Times gets a lot of things wrong?
13:07 Yes.
13:08 This is a very hot story.
13:10 How about this?
13:10 Sue them then.
13:11 Go for it.
13:12 You know, that's my my critique is look,
13:15 Israel and everybody else, you say it's all fabricated.
13:18 Go for it.
13:19 All right.
13:19 Sue them.
13:20 Let's let's open it up for discovery.
13:22 Open yourselves up for discovery.
13:24 Do it in US court in in new in New York State.
13:27 All right.
13:27 Let's go.
13:28 Fine.
13:28 Let's see what you've got.
13:30 Sue Nick Kristoff and let's see what you've got.
13:33 And if what you've got is if you can open up all your files and you
13:37 can prove in each of these individual
13:38 cases that what they're saying is not true,
13:41 then you will win and you are correct
13:42 that this would be some fake blood liable andor hit job.
13:46 And what Kristoff can do is he can reveal what he was told,
13:50 the factchecking, you know,
13:52 that and all that stuff that went behind it and then we can see
13:55 for ourselves or they can jawbone on social
13:58 media and we will continue to see basically,
14:01 you know, calling this a blood liel or any of that.
14:04 uh any sort of like actual you know ability
14:07 to quote debunk doesn't you know you said something
14:10 about there about oh this is not just human
14:12 rights I I would put all that out of there and I would say to not just look
14:17 necessarily at the because that's other problem these people
14:20 are often such an information vacuum that this is
14:22 the only first time they ever heard anything do
14:25 we not all remember the case of the Israeli
14:27 soldiers who were literally on camera uh being
14:30 caught doing this to Palestinian prisoners who then were
14:32 jailbroken out of by their own citizens and celebrated.
14:36 That was called a blood label.
14:37 No.
14:37 Yeah, that's true though.
14:38 That actually happened.
14:39 And this is here's the thing.
14:41 It was a scandal inside of their country.
14:43 All you need to do is read Israeli media.
14:46 So, if you were to read that and have
14:48 knowledge of that and then read this, you're like,
14:50 "Okay, well, that kind of makes sense, doesn't it?" Uh,
14:52 and if you were to read not even just about
14:54 the conditions or some of these other things that happened,
14:57 you know, with a lot of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prison.
15:00 Now, at the end of the day, why do they care so much?
15:03 The reason that they care so much about this story is because
15:06 it makes them look like the same people that they're fighting, right?
15:12 And that's the pro for them.
15:13 The moral high ground is so important.
15:16 Whereas it's the predicate for us a it's the predicate not just for us
15:19 a for this declaration of we are a western country.
15:22 We're just like you.
15:24 We're blood brothers.
15:25 Right?
15:25 That's what they try to say.
15:27 It's not true.
15:27 Okay.
15:28 They don't operate like that.
15:29 They haven't been like that a long time now.
15:31 Are there a lot of people like that over there?
15:32 Absolutely.
15:33 Don't get me wrong.
15:34 But that does not mean that the government itself
15:36 with Ben Gavir and Smootrices and all of these people like,
15:40 you know, listen to the these liberal liberal Zionists will
15:42 even tell you these people are in a different league.
15:44 And they combine this with uh let's say how they operate
15:47 in the West Bank and some of these lynchings and other things that happen,
15:50 these killings of uh either US citizens or others and the settler movement.
15:55 And then you've got this treatment of some of these Palestinian prisoners
15:58 or detainees or this new law that they just passed about execute.
16:02 You got to add it all up in totality and you would say, "Wow,
16:05 you look a lot like Saudi Arabia actually,
16:07 which you claim you're a lot better than,
16:09 but maybe you're just the same." Uh, and if you are the same, well,
16:12 that's going to change the security calculus
16:13 because then we're going to start being like,
16:14 "Oh, this isn't an emotional relationship.
16:16 This is like what's in it for the both of us argument." And yeah,
16:19 maybe not a lot actually.
16:20 Well, and this is why Netanyahu is is right now
16:23 working to convince the American government to further crush Iran.
16:28 It's why he said in that same 60 Minutes interview that his plan is
16:31 to help Israel be weaned off his words uh US support within the next decade.
16:38 Now, Sucker, you could take the dog elements
16:40 out of the story and you could take Eurommed
16:42 out of the story and you would still have
16:44 uh a strong piece from Kristoff who also cites,
16:49 for example, the Committee to Protect Journalists,
16:51 which has surveyed 59 Palestinian journalists who
16:54 were released by Israeli authorities after October 7th.
16:58 Quote, 3% said they had been raped and 29%
17:01 29% said they had endured other forms of sexual violence.
17:06 you can remove the elements of the story that are being u
17:10 most the most high-profile elements of the story that are being picked
17:12 apart right now and you still have a a story that can't
17:17 really be uh picked apart in whole and this is why there's
17:23 a significant sign the these back backlashes like this one uh are
17:28 actually counterproductive for Netanyahu's purposes
17:32 and I really mean that for people
17:34 who support Israel backlashes like this one actually backfire because what they
17:39 do is ex people see the backlash then they go read the story
17:43 right and that's an an experience for them where they can
17:46 contrast and compare what they're being told with then what they see
17:50 in the story and it's one of those things I think one
17:53 of the big reasons s that support has declined for Israel in the United
17:57 States is that people because of social media not because of foreign
18:01 ops but because of a lot of accurate information that is bypassing
18:06 uh the media gatekeepers because of a lot of that they have
18:09 been able to compare what they were told for a really long time
18:13 with some actual videos, some actual testimonies.
18:17 And listen, people can make up their own minds.
18:21 Yeah, read it.
18:21 Go ahead.
18:22 You know, if you think it's read this Emily
18:24 presented the what they said is the criticism,
18:27 you make up your mind for yourself.
18:28 All right.
18:30 I'm I'll pres you know, look at the Israeli government's response and all that.
18:33 might find it very revealing.
18:34 I certainly do.
18:35 Take my own thoughts out of it, take her thoughts out of it.
18:37 You can go read it and you can decide what you think uh for yourself.
18:41 All right, let's move on.
18:42 We have uh Derek Thompson standing by to talk about AI.
