"Yes We Can" Signs, A Nobel Prize, And Other Cool Items On Display At The Obama Presidential Center

0:09 Obama for a walk-through of the Obama Presidential Center.

0:13 The Obama Presidential Center houses

0:15 a museum dedicated to the president's legacy.

0:18 It's four levels showcase artifacts from his political and personal life.

0:22 And my friend Barack was nice enough to give me a tour.

0:27 It's an incredible space, and I'm curious,

0:30 what do you want people to take away from the Obama Center Museum?

0:34 What I really want people to take away from this is that they're

0:39 the force behind change and every positive thing that's happened in the country.

0:44 They're what lifted me up to the presidency.

0:47 They're the folks that ultimately bring about

0:50 changes to make this a fair, better country,

0:52 and I want them to be fired up to go back

0:55 in their own communities and try to make things better there, too.

0:58 What do you think the big draw is going to be for this museum?

1:01 Michelle's dresses.

1:02 That's actually a good answer.

1:04 I wasn't sure if you were going to have one for that.

1:06 Okay, good.

1:07 Cuz you know, the Herbert Hoover Museum in Iowa,

1:09 he has a diorama of him fishing.

1:12 Trout fishing, so you had to beat that.

1:14 That was the bar.

1:14 [laughter] It's filled with souvenirs from throughout your life.

1:18 Is there anything you didn't want to part with?

1:20 The Nobel Prize is here, and I sort of felt like,

1:24 you know, who am I showing it off to?

1:26 It's It's not like I'm putting it around

1:29 on a on a gold chain wearing it out to dinner.

1:32 Well, I don't know.

1:33 You get pulled over by a policeman, you go, "Excuse me,

1:35 sir." My friend Alfred would like to talk to you.

1:38 [laughter] Is it safe to assume that some

1:41 of these displays commemorate your greatest achievements as president?

1:45 is fair.

1:45 Yeah.

1:45 Is there a wing dedicated to greatest blunders?

1:49 Is the tan suit here?

1:50 I'm asking if the tan suit is here.

1:52 Listen, I own that tan suit proudly, brother.

2:03 When you look back at the tan suit, what occurs to you?

2:12 What we have in this case is all kinds

2:14 of amazing stuff that volunteers made that, you know, we had nothing to do with.

2:18 They came up with cool stuff and made me look cool, and I wasn't that cool.

2:26 They were cooler.

2:27 I wasn't going to be thinking of something like that.

2:29 Now, this Those Yes, We Can sneakers.

2:31 I know you still play ball.

2:33 I'm just curious, at 64, do the shoes say, "Yes, we can," but the knees say,

2:38 "Maybe we shouldn't?" Over here, I noticed the Obama-O's.

2:43 This is an interesting story.

2:44 We'll see.

2:48 [laughter] Brian Chesky, the CEO of Airbnb, gave this to me.

2:51 Airbnb had gotten started and was looking

2:54 for some sort of event where they could,

2:57 you know, show that this concept of people

3:00 sleeping in other people's bedrooms might might work.

3:03 And the Denver Convention was one of their big launching points because they

3:09 figured a whole bunch of volunteers are

3:11 coming in, there aren't enough hotel rooms,

3:12 and simultaneously they were running out of money.

3:16 Did they sell these?

3:17 They sold these as a way to help fund Airbnb when it was short on cash.

3:22 They basically took a bunch of Cheerios and then put them in another box.

3:25 Just looking at the photo,

3:26 on behalf of children everywhere, how about some marshmallows, man?

3:31 [laughter] What is the worst thing that you had to eat for a camera?

3:35 Well, I'm not sure it's the worst-tasting Most dangerous thing you've eaten.

3:39 Worst thing, uh, fried Snicker bar.

3:41 That sounds good, though.

3:43 That's why I said

3:44 It tasted just fine.

3:46 There you go.

3:47 Comic That's amazing.

3:48 That I have to say was pretty cool.

3:50 Partly because Spider-Man was, uh, along with Batman, my two favorite,

3:55 uh, superheroes when I was 10, 11 years old.

4:13 I was thinking about other things when this thing came out.

4:15 And I'm [snorts] just curious like the economic crisis

4:17 that was about to plunge the world into a great depression.

4:19 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

4:19 You did a good job with that.

4:20 I'm sure you were really concerned about getting your face on the cover of, uh,

4:24 We all have our priorities.

4:25 You said Batman was big for you, too.

4:27 What number Batman are you on?

4:28 I've never been on Batman.

4:29 Oh.

4:31 Oh, [laughter] I've been on Batman and Superman.

4:34 And again, it's not a competition.

4:35 [cheering and applause] So, you shouldn't feel however you're feeling right now.

4:39 I'm feeling a little low-key.

4:43 [laughter] Now, you've said that this center really isn't about you,

4:46 it's about inspiring the leaders of the future.

4:48 Tell me who these lovely people are.

4:50 Here are four examples of amazing young

4:52 people doing amazing work in their communities,

4:55 and these are the folks who are going to be carrying this stuff forward.

4:59 The goal of the foundation, just like the goal of the center,

5:02 is to figure out ways we can help them achieve their goals,

5:06 and, uh, the truth is is that guys like us are kind of old,

5:10 and we've run out of ideas, and Yeah.

5:12 you know, we need, uh,

5:14 these people to help get us out of some

5:16 of the binds we've gotten them into, and hopefully this will

5:19 be sort of a hub for a lot of the activities that go on for for years to come.

5:24 Next generation of leaders, um, how many of you voted for Obama?

5:28 Well, well, what Well, that's embarrassing.

5:31 Yeah.

5:31 You've heard the former first lady speak,

5:33 and you've heard the former president speak.

5:34 I have.

5:35 want to rank them?

5:38 [laughter] I'm going to have to go Michelle Obama.

5:39 Uh, you know, that that that was that was a layup.

5:43 [laughter] His slogan was, "Yes, we can." As the next generation,

5:45 how would how would you modernize that?

5:47 Is there anything you would change about that?

5:49 Yes, we can.

5:52 [laughter] Yeah.

5:53 President Obama said the center is about you, not about him.

5:57 But obviously he's inspirational.

5:59 Does anyone have an impression of Barack Obama that they know how to do?

6:02 Well, you know, Stephen, um, this is why we're here at the Obama

6:06 Presidential Center because we're trying to bring change home.
