Bloomberg Podcasts
0:02 Welcome back to Bloomberg this weekend or w wow as I'm constantly bullish.
0:06 Ten weeks in and we're making progress.
0:09 I'm Christina Ruffini.
0:11 David Gura alongside Lisa Mateo.
0:12 This is the moment in the show.
0:13 And Lisa shows us all that she has surfaced over the course of the week.
0:16 Stories.
0:16 Yes, we you may have missed Lisa.
0:19 May have missed it.
0:20 I did not.
0:21 Okay, so let's get to the first one.
0:22 This was actually on the Bloomberg.
0:23 This is from Bloomberg.
0:25 So it says travelers spend big by using astrology as a vacation planner.
0:29 Okay, so what could go wrong?
0:31 Here's the thing.
0:31 Do you guys follow your signs?
0:32 I do.
0:33 You're not too into that.
0:34 Okay.
0:35 People are.
0:36 Oh, no.
0:37 Okay.
0:37 A lot of people are, though, apparently.
0:39 Um, and a not a growing number.
0:40 They're turning to listen to this astro card.
0:43 Okay, so this is when they look at the position of the planets,
0:47 the moment of your birth.
0:48 So they're going to locate places
0:49 in the world that align with achieving your goals.
0:52 Okay.
0:52 So a lot of people like people considering a new chapter in their lives.
0:56 They want to move.
0:57 They're looking for love.
0:58 They're doing all these things.
0:59 They turn to these folks for some guidance.
1:02 You didn't do this.
1:03 Um, no.
1:03 When you do this, when you before, you know, you you didn't design your job.
1:07 Oh, no, I did.
1:08 I did one sit through a dinner where a woman, unprompted, brought a book,
1:11 asked everyone for their birthday, and read for an hour and a half.
1:14 All of our rising stars.
1:16 A good party trick like that.
1:17 Okay, you can go next.
1:18 If we get your cards, read nothing.
1:20 No, no, I never done that.
1:21 Um, no, I do have a tarot deck.
1:23 I do have a tarot deck.
1:24 I did a piece once on somebody.
1:25 I did a piece once on somebody who had a really nice, chill take on it,
1:29 and they gifted me one afterwards,
1:30 and it was a nice gift, but I don't use it regularly.
1:32 We digress.
1:33 People are using this.
1:34 They are actually doing this.
1:35 They are.
1:35 There are because 30% of American adults say
1:37 they turn to these horoscopes, tarot cards like.
1:39 So more people are starting to do this.
1:41 So now they're turning to this new service,
1:43 and even corporations are hiring these people
1:46 to bring them on because corporations,
1:48 you know, they're they're taking on new ventures.
1:50 So they want to see if it's in the right location.
1:52 It's it's a you got to read it is interesting.
1:55 Read those a few right hand terminal.
1:59 I sent you a direct message.
2:00 Right.
2:00 I'm talking about this piece, Hannah.
2:01 Okay.
2:02 This next one is from the Wall Street Journal.
2:03 Okay.
2:03 This is about the boy bands.
2:05 Okay.
2:05 So the boy band heyday may be over, but the Man Band era has just begun.
2:10 Okay, so the boy bands that kind of we'd love when we were younger.
2:15 Okay, um, a lot of them are making
2:17 big money now because we're talking about the people.
2:20 We're talking about three new kids on the Backstreet Boys.
2:23 Right?
2:23 Remember, boys to men, new additions, like all those big boys.
2:27 Yes, yes, yes.
2:28 So they're men now, in their 40s and 50s.
2:33 They're not in their 20s and 30s anymore,
2:35 but they're making money because the women who
2:38 love them back in the day now are older.
2:41 They have more money to spend.
2:42 So they're going to Vegas to the shows.
2:44 They're going with girlfriends, they're doing girl trips.
2:47 My sister actually did one.
2:49 She did.
2:50 I did a girl thing.
2:51 I did not go as her new girlfriend.
2:53 They book flights they went out to.
2:54 I forget where it was,
2:56 but they had an excellent time and they had such a phenomenal time.
3:00 But it's they are really, really making money off of this guys.
3:03 I was a new kids on the block.
3:04 I got to say.
3:05 That was my kind of thing.
3:06 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
3:07 Um, and I had three younger sisters, so it was always like, who's your favorite?
3:11 Who is your favorite?
3:12 So you're like my neighbor.
3:13 You kids on the block bedspread.
3:15 Bedspread.
3:17 Gosh.
3:17 But it's a thing.
3:19 It's a girls thing.
3:20 VIP tickets and everything.
3:21 You know, you don't want to know, but if you guys want to go, you let me know.
3:24 And I'll go down there for all of them for at least every day, okay?
3:27 Okay.
3:28 Okay.
3:29 Um, this one's from the New York Times.
3:31 Okay.
3:31 Longevity.
3:31 Right?
3:32 A lot of people are seeking.
3:33 And this is from the times.
3:34 It says the longevity secrets helping athletes blow past the limits of age.
3:38 Okay, so we're talking about athletes right there extending their careers.
3:42 Remember we talked about the Winter Olympics, right.
3:44 Two athletes over 40 right.
3:45 Won gold medals last season.
3:47 You had 340 plus quarterbacks who started NFL games.
3:50 And then of course there's LeBron James right.
3:52 He's 41.
3:53 His son is playing next to him little Bronny yeah little Bronny.
3:56 Um so that's how they do it.
3:59 It's more like they're not just sitting in an ice bath.
4:01 I mean, this is high tech gadgets.
4:03 Um, a lot of data involve like all these sci fi tech gadgets.
4:06 Um, and they're doing a lot of different things.
4:09 Um, a mortal chamber.
4:11 It's $160,000.
4:12 It's a human charging station, so some of these assets are even buying those.
4:18 So they can kind of rejuvenate themselves because
4:20 they want to extend their good luck here.
4:21 Okay.
4:22 So how much of this is proven because I have friends who do a lot of this stuff.
4:25 So I know that there's some research to back up,
4:27 but is this just is it so Seba for us?
4:32 I mean, they're saying that it's helping because they're working.
4:35 Yeah.
4:35 The thing is, is that the athletes are making more money, right?
4:38 So think about it.
4:38 They make more money.
4:39 They have more money to spend on a lot of these, you know,
4:43 gadgets to kind of prolong their career.
4:45 So and you know, the career does end early relatively speaking.
4:48 It does.
4:48 But maybe in the rest of your life and only
4:51 so many play by play jobs that are available for it.
4:54 All right.
4:55 I have this one.
4:56 One more from The Washington Post.
4:58 Okay, so this was an interesting study.
5:00 Why sitting all day is so bad for you and what to do about it.
5:04 So we're sitting here right now.
5:06 Yes.
5:06 And we you know, we get it now and then to stand and stretch the back.
5:10 Um, sitting is a new smoking.
5:12 That was like the thing.
5:13 Remember that hearing that.
5:14 Yeah.
5:14 Not really.
5:15 Okay, so apparently the Wall Street Washington Post,
5:17 they asked the experts and they said, how much is too much sitting?
5:21 So if you sit for 8 to 10 hours a day, that's a little too much.
5:25 You can get up, you know, once in a while.
5:27 Um, it's tied to higher risk of cancer, type two diabetes.
5:31 This is what the studies show.
5:32 Depression, things like that.
5:34 Um, and the reason why is because when you sit right,
5:36 your muscles are not working.
5:37 Um, and it's affecting your metabolism at the same time.
5:40 So that's what they say.
5:41 Your muscles are very important.
5:43 So you have to remember that, um, when you're just doing that.
5:46 So that's why I have the standing desk.
5:47 Yes.
5:48 I take your kids theological counsels all the time.
5:50 So, I mean, you are aggressively they have the happiest
5:53 and healthiest member of our team to do what you're doing.
5:56 So you do have to stand up to the stand up desk.
5:58 And then my watch actually tells me it goes
6:00 off when I've been sitting through to yell at you.
6:02 Yes, it does require you to stand.
6:04 And it tells me it's time to stand.
6:06 So yeah, I've gotta get that nails on me.
6:08 Yells at me that's I just use my dog.
6:09 It just yells at me to get up.
6:11 I got to take the walks.
6:13 By the way.
6:14 Bloomberg this weekend.
6:15 Lisa Mateo, thank you.
6:17 Thank you very much.
