Children Are Sent to Colonize a Distant Planet But Their Mission Turns Into Chaos & Hunger For Power

0:11 Scientists look for a new planet able to sustain

0:14 human life and find it in the year 2063.

0:16 The planet is seen on screen,

0:18 while a woman explains that it is a planet humans can colonize.

0:22 She continues, saying that a scouting mission to the planet should be sent.

0:26 Since the voyage there will take 86 years,

0:28 the crew of the mission will reproduce on the ship,

0:30 making the third generation on board the one to reach the planet.

0:34 The crew is genetically engineered on Earth

0:35 by combining the genes of leading scientists.

0:38 A man is seen talking about the reasoning behind this plan,

0:41 justifying why the crew will be specifically engineered to man the mission,

0:45 consisting of children raised and trained solely for its purpose.

0:48 The next step is assessing when they'll be ready to go.

0:51 The younger the crew is, the longer the resources can be preserved.

0:54 But, the man- Richard, is worried that they might not be fully equipped

0:59 to deal with the complexity of space travel on their own.

1:02 Later, Richard is seen entering a facility where the child

1:05 crew is being raised and he gets into full protective gear.

1:08 He enters the rooms where they live and when they see him they all rejoice.

1:12 Richard monitors where they are in their education,

1:14 and then tucks Christopher, Sela and Zac into bed.

1:17 Zac tells him that he's afraid,

1:19 but Richard comforts him by telling him that he's safe.

1:22 The next day, Richard is talking to a woman in charge of the mission.

1:25 He tells her that he should go with the children, to raise and protect them.

1:29 Richard's addition to the mission would also mean that it

1:31 will be able to launch in 4 years, instead of 7.

1:34 Next, the mission launches with Richard on the helm.

1:38 The shuttle docks with Humanitas, the ship for the mission.

1:41 They all go inside and find their quarters.

1:43 Richard takes one last look of Earth.

1:46 10 years later, the children are already adults,

1:49 as they can be seen waking and getting ready to start their days on the ship.

1:53 The first lesson covers the fertilization for the second generation,

1:56 which will begin in the 24th year of their lives.

1:59 The crew goes about their day like robots.

2:01 They're seen drinking a blue liquid.

2:03 Christopher and Zac are listening to classical music.

2:06 Sela walks through the ship and looks out at the space around them.

2:10 Later, she talks to Richard, saying that the lives of the crew are unimportant.

2:14 Trying to comfort her, he shows her pictures of his grandparents,

2:17 telling her that providing for the future is very important.

2:20 That night, Christopher can't sleep.

2:21 He listens to the sounds of the ship.

2:24 The next day, Richard and Christopher are

2:26 in the hydroponics bay checking the state of the plants,

2:29 when a message about toxicity in the water appears on Christopher's screen.

2:33 He asks Richard about it,

2:35 thinking it's some kind of chemical that isn't being processed from their urine,

2:38 but Richard dismisses his concerns.

2:40 He's skeptical about it.

2:42 So, later, he asks Zac about the ingredient T56j.

2:45 They wonder why the information is unavailable.

2:48 During the night, the two of them go back to figure out what it is.

2:53 Christopher bypasses the firewall and is able to find the information.

2:56 The chemical ingredient is found in the blue liquid they drink.

2:59 Zac thinks it was a digestion aid,

3:01 but they figure out that it has other effects on their personality.

3:04 It makes them dull and docile, decreasing their desires and pleasure responses.

3:09 They're being drugged and pacified,

3:10 so they don't reproduce naturally and overpopulate the ship.

3:14 The two of them stop drinking the blue liquid.

3:16 Later, they share the information with Kai and Julie.

3:19 Along with the information about a hidden compartment on the ship.

3:23 Later, Christopher is in a session with Richard.

3:25 He says he knows that he's been lying to them,

3:28 but only mentions the unmarked compartment, pod 23.

3:30 Richard tells him that the mission must have lied to them for a reason,

3:35 that the pod might be for the third generation.

3:37 After the session, Richard sends a message back to Earth asking if

3:40 he could share everything with the crew and be honest with them,

3:43 so they don't lose faith in him.

3:44 The message will take time to get there.

3:47 The next day, while standing in line next to Sela,

3:50 Christopher has a fantasy about her.

3:52 They eat lunch and he keeps looking

3:54 at her, but Zac approaches her telling her that she's changed.

3:57 Richard comes in and tells him not to grab her, as per the rules.

4:00 In the gym, Christopher and Zac are seen fighting and taking it a bit too far.

4:05 The others don't understand what's happening.

4:07 The two of them start feeling the effects of not taking the drug.

4:10 They hear the ship noises and go to an observation

4:13 room where they see one of their fellow crewmembers.

4:15 The three of them talk about what it might be,

4:17 so he tells them that he thinks it might be some kind of alien life form.

4:21 Sela and Richard are in his office and he shows her dried plants from Earth.

4:25 Zac and Christopher hear them talking and approach the room.

4:28 Zac sees Richard touching Sela's shoulder and gets jealous.

4:32 They loose contact with Earth and Richard informs

4:34 them that their transmitter needs to be fixed.

4:37 Zac will come with him, while the others continue with their roles.

4:40 The preparations are under way, as Zac sees Sela and approaches her again.

4:44 She tells him about the suit he'll

4:46 be wearing and he starts touching her inappropriately.

4:49 Richard runs in and gets him off of her.

4:51 He asks Zac what's happening, but he runs away.

4:54 Looking for him, Richard sees Phoebe on the way

4:56 and she tells him that he stopped taking the blue.

4:59 Next, he runs into Christopher and finds out

5:01 that he stopped taking the drug as well.

5:03 They argue, but Richard tells him that the drug was

5:06 implemented to stop precisely the type of behavior witnessed in Zac.

5:09 He asks Christopher to help him fix the transmitter,

5:12 so that when it's online he'll back him

5:14 up when he voices his objections to mission control.

5:16 All of the other crewmembers are on their positions in the ship,

5:19 while prep for the spacewalk is under way.

5:21 Zac enters the systems room.

5:23 Richard and Christopher go outside the ship.

5:26 Christopher is experiencing sensations he hasn't felt before,

5:29 so Richard keeps an eye on him.

5:31 Richard repairs one of the transmitter parts then goes over the the second one.

5:36 Inside the ship, the noises from the ship can

5:38 be heard again and the crew is getting restless.

5:40 They check to see if anything else is outside and suddenly

5:43 something appears on the screen next to Richard and Christopher.

5:46 It hurts Richard, hurling him away from the ship.

5:48 The ship has some kind of malfunction as well.

5:51 No one knows what has happened.

5:53 There is a fire in the systems room.

5:56 Christopher brings Richard inside and they take him to medical.

5:59 All kinds of errors appear on the ship, from navigation to communication.

6:03 The medical team and Sela are trying to resuscitate Richard,

6:06 but it doesn't work.

6:07 Sela is the chief medical officer and pronounces him dead.

6:11 Later, the crew has a meeting, where they speak about what has happened.

6:15 They mention the creaking sound.

6:16 One of the crewmembers says he saw something on the monitor when it happened,

6:20 that looked like a force jumping into Richard, like it was something alien.

6:24 Phoebe starts crying.

6:25 Christopher comforts them,

6:26 saying that if they keep it together they'll be alright.

6:29 The systems reboot and the crew is checking the surveillance archive,

6:33 but all of the footage has been deleted by the fire in the systems room.

6:37 They need to choose a new chief officer.

6:39 Zac says that he should be chief.

6:41 But the others say that they need an election.

6:44 All of them vote and place Christopher as chief officer.

6:47 Zac is jealous, but congratulates him regardless.

6:50 First order of business is repairing the damage in the transmitter.

6:53 He gets the entire crew working on the other

6:56 repairs on the ship caused by the fire.

6:58 The surveillance system is the last thing on the repair list,

7:01 so they can see what happened to Richard.

7:03 They hope the drives are intact.

7:05 Sela goes to his office and looks through his pictures and videos,

7:08 when Christopher arrives at the door.

7:10 She tells him that she is supposed to destroy his personal archive,

7:13 even though she doesn't want to do it.

7:15 She shows him Richard's photographs and they

7:17 talk about the importance of parents.

7:19 He asks why Richard told her about his life,

7:21 thinking that they might have been more than friends,

7:23 but she explains that he was just feeling alone.

7:26 They look through his video diary,

7:27 where he explains how much he believes in the mission

7:30 and talks about how much he cares for them.

7:32 Christopher is looking for the crew and finds them in the cantina,

7:35 angry that they're not at their posts.

7:36 Zac tells him that they're repairing the refrigerators,

7:39 so they don't lose any food.

7:41 But there's a bunch of food that might go bad

7:43 so he asks him is they can have a feast, to celebrate their new chief officer.

7:47 After they eat, Kai tells the others not to drink the blue and they all dump it.

7:51 Sela and Christopher are looking through

7:54 Richard's videos laughing and enjoying themselves.

7:56 Christopher feels increasingly more attracted to her.

7:59 Zac feels attracted to Julie, he touches her and she touches him back.

8:03 The others are looking at them.

8:05 Later, the crew can be seen play

8:07 fighting and running around the ship, having fun.

8:10 They all look through Richards personal archive.

8:12 Sela finds them in his quarters and tells them to leave, but they don't want to.

8:17 Zac is the last to leave,

8:18 telling Sela that Richard isn't there anymore to protect her.

8:21 She goes back to the med bay, and grabs a scalpel.

8:24 Christopher is following Zac, worried he might do something to Sela,

8:27 when he finds out that she's in the med bay and goes there before Zac can.

8:31 Zac arrives and Christopher pretends that the two

8:34 of them are making love, so he leaves.

8:36 Sela threatens him with the scalpel, not understanding his intentions.

8:39 But when he says he's there to help her, she

8:42 says he should help the rest of the crew,

8:44 because they're getting out of control.

8:46 Christopher leaves and finds Zac along the way,

8:47 telling him to stay away from Sela,

8:49 when they hear the strange crackling noise again.

8:51 He follows it around the ship, as others can hear it too.

8:55 Kai sees Julie getting close to another crewman,

8:57 so he flies into a rage and punches him off her.

9:01 They fight.

9:01 Later in the cantina, Christopher tries to get the crew to behave,

9:05 but they don't like it.

9:06 Suddenly, the crewman that Kai beat up starts hitting him with a tool.

9:10 Christopher stops him by hitting him too.

9:12 He tells everyone to get Kai and the other

9:15 one treated and then to meet at the common room.

9:17 In the meeting he tells everyone that the fighting

9:19 has to stop and the reparations have to continue.

9:22 Zac challenges him and the others think that they shouldn't be doing

9:25 the work because they won't get to the end of the mission.

9:27 Christopher says that their grandchildren will

9:29 and that they need to support them.

9:31 One of the crewmembers says he doesn't want to work

9:33 in the systems room because the alien lives there.

9:36 He thinks Christopher brought it in when Richard died.

9:39 Phoebe suggests they repair the surveillance system and see what happened,

9:42 but Zac belittles her and tells Christopher to shut up too.

9:45 He doesn't care about the rules anymore and tries to get the others on his side,

9:49 saying Christopher isn't the right leader.

9:50 Zac thinks he should be the leader and tries to convince

9:53 the rest of them to become a part of his group,

9:55 which will be strong enough to fight the alien if it's there.

9:58 Many of the crew follow him, but some of them stay on Christopher's side.

10:02 That group goes to the surveillance room to fix the system,

10:05 afraid the alien might be there.

10:07 Christopher goes in first to check.

10:09 Zac and the others roam the hallways and reach the systems room.

10:12 Him and Kai go inside the room, not knowing Christopher has been in there too.

10:17 They go deeper inside the room to look for the alien.

10:20 The ones on the outside see something happening inside,

10:22 and Zac and Kai run out terrified, sealing the room as they leave.

10:26 Later, they tell the others from the group that the alien attacked them.

10:31 Meanwhile, Christopher brings the surveillance drive to Sela in the med bay.

10:34 Him, her and a few others check the footage.

10:37 They find the footage from the systems room and realize

10:39 that it was Zac and Kai that killed Richard by electrocuting him,

10:43 then lied about the alien.

10:44 The group decides to keep quiet for the moment,

10:46 until they figure out what to do.

10:48 Christopher and Sela hide the drive in her room and talk about Zac.

10:52 He thinks that this is what they're really like without the drug,

10:55 but she disagrees, saying that the two of them are different.

10:57 He says that he's worried that the others won't care

11:00 about the truth and that maybe he doesn't care either.

11:02 Sela tells him to stay with her.

11:04 They kiss and they sleep together.

11:07 In the morning, there's a knock on Sela's door.

11:09 It's Zac saying that he'll come inside, one way or another.

11:13 When she and Christopher open the door,

11:15 Zac and Kai invite them to another celebration in the cantina.

11:18 Christopher's group arrives, while the others are already eating.

11:22 Zac invites them to get some food.

11:24 When they sit down, he stands up and proclaims himself the new chief officer.

11:29 Suddenly, Christopher stands up to, goes to a monitor

11:31 and plays the footage from the incident.

11:34 He tells the others that Zac killed Richard and that there is no alien,

11:37 that he's been lying to them.

11:39 He suggests Zac confines himself in his room,

11:41 while they consult the program and they decide what to do.

11:45 Everyone gets upset and Zac confesses, saying he did it to protect them,

11:49 because the alien was in Richard and Christopher brought it inside.

11:52 He convinces the others that the alien is inside the ship,

11:55 hiding in one of them.

11:56 Zac says that they need to find it and kill it, to which they all agree.

12:00 He pits them against each other and they start fighting.

12:02 They think it's the crewman that works

12:04 in the med bay and they start chasing after him.

12:07 Christopher follows suit.

12:08 Kai hits him first, then the others join, as they kick the crewman to death.

12:12 Christopher takes his group to a secure place in the ship,

12:16 while Zac's group goes into the med bay and they arm themselves.

12:19 Christopher's group tries to figure out what to do

12:21 and some of them want to give up, saying they can't do anything in the moment.

12:24 They think they should join Zac's group and try to detain him later,

12:27 because his group has weapons and they don't.

12:29 Sela realizes that Christopher knows about the weapons

12:31 hidden on the ship in the secret compartment.

12:34 Christopher goes to find it by himself.

12:36 He opens a compartment and crawls inside, searching for it.

12:40 When he finally finds it, he can't open it and an alarm starts blaring,

12:44 which Julie and another crewman hear.

12:46 They hear him inside the compartments too and tell Zac about it.

12:49 Christopher gets out to get some tools to open the compartment,

12:52 but when he comes back,

12:54 the other group is already taking the compartments apart.

12:56 They open the secret compartment and find the weapons.

12:59 Kai thinks they're meant for the third generation,

13:01 but Zac says they are for them.

13:04 Two people from Christopher's group want to join Zac and the others.

13:07 Zac asks where the rest are hiding.

13:10 Sela, Phoebe and Christopher devise a plan how to get close to Zac.

13:13 He suggests that he should kill him, but Phoebe doesn't like it.

13:17 Sela watches them on the monitor

13:18 and sees that they're moving, coming after them.

13:21 They cut their power and arrive at the room.

13:23 Sela tells her group not to resist, as the others storm the room and grab them.

13:28 Sela stops them, as they are dragging Christopher away,

13:30 and asks to talk privately to Zac.

13:32 She says she wants to be with him and join his group, as she walks up to him.

13:37 But he rejects her, laughing at her, when

13:39 Phoebe appears asking if they've all gone crazy.

13:42 She says they can decide not to act the way they have.

13:44 But they all tell her to shut up.

13:47 Suddenly Kai kills her to the shock of everyone, including Zac.

13:50 But he turns it around and goes after Christopher.

13:52 He and Sela escape, but the others hunt for them throughout the ship.

13:56 They hide in a vent, but the others quickly find which one it is.

14:00 Zac shoots inside, as Julie tells him to be careful,

14:03 because he's destroying their food supply.

14:05 He sends one of his men after them to see if he got them, but they escape again.

14:10 Suddenly, someone shoots at them, so they start looking for weapons.

14:13 Christopher finds a fire extinguisher and as Kai comes inside the med bay,

14:17 they incapacitate him and accidentally kill him.

14:19 Zac finds them fast and shoots after them as they run away.

14:23 They get into an airlock and Christopher tells Sela to get into a space suit.

14:27 He covers the window of the air lock.

14:29 When Zac reaches it, he shoots without hesitation.

14:32 Suddenly he's sucked inside, because the hatch to the outside has been opened.

14:36 He grabs Sela and goes to close the hatch,

14:38 fighting with her and eventually stabbing her with a knife.

14:41 Christopher pushes him outside the hatch, but as they fight,

14:44 ends up sucked out in space himself.

14:46 Before Zac can close the hatch, Sela kicks him out of it.

14:50 She searches for Christopher,

14:51 waiting for him to come back and suddenly sees him grabbing onto the ship.

14:55 The two of them come back inside and tell the others that Zac is gone.

14:59 They put down their weapons.

15:01 Some time later, all of the crew is having lunch in the cantina.

15:04 Sela asks Christopher how they can make

15:06 sure something like that doesn't happen again.

15:08 They listen to some of Richards recordings again,

15:11 in which he says that no matter what bad happens on the mission,

15:14 the ones that prevail are proof that humans are worth saving.

15:16 The crew votes for a new chief again and they choose Sela.

15:20 She records a diary in which she says that they will vote for everything

15:23 from that moment on and that they will still not go back to the blue.

15:27 The crew continues repairing the ship and work

15:29 together in peace as time goes by.

15:31 Sela can be seen pregnant and the baby is Christopher's.

15:34 The baby is born.

15:35 A few years later, it can be seen

15:37 running on the ship and joining other children.

15:39 Those children grow up on the ship, as the first generation grows old.

15:44 86 years since the start of the mission the Humanitas can be

15:47 seen floating in space and engaging it's drive to land on the planet.

15:51 The older generations and the younger ones look

15:53 toward their new home on the alien planet.
