0:20 [music] [music] [music] [music] [cheering] Wow.

0:42 OH, WOW.

0:43 YOU look good.

0:44 Are you sick of talking about how you look?

0:46 Are you over it?

0:47 Oh, absolutely not.

0:48 Good.

0:48 Good.

0:49 Good.

0:49 No.

0:50 For 41 years, I never walked in one room where somebody said,

0:53 "Dude, you look great." Not one time, dude.

0:56 I mean, I was an ugly baby.

0:57 You know what I'm saying?

0:58 So now I'm only about a year into people being like,

1:00 "You look great." I'm like, "Bring it more.

1:02 Tell me more." Even she's like,

1:03 "You look hot today." I'm like, "Tell me again, baby.

1:05 Tell me again."

1:06 How many pounds have you lost?

1:08 Almost 300.

1:10 WHOA.

1:11 [cheering] CRAZY.

1:14 [applause]

1:15 300.

1:15 Imagine if I was just 300 lb.

1:17 I would have been really, really fat.

1:19 And I lost 300 lb.

1:21 I was so fat that I lost weight that I'm still fat.

1:24 And we're just celebrating me just being fat.

1:30 It's like you had a twin brother and now he's gone.

1:32 No, for sure.

1:33 [laughter] And it was more evil me.

1:34 I've turned into a nicer guy.

1:36 Oh, I see.

1:36 I got you.

1:37 I was afraid I was going to be rude.

1:38 [laughter]

1:40 Yeah.

1:40 You suddenly get Yeah.

1:41 Like some of those like

1:42 imagine you see your pecker for the first time.

1:43 You don't know how you're going to react.

1:46 [applause] Hello, old friend.

1:49 [laughter]

1:50 There you are.

1:51 You smell horrible.

1:53 [cheering] Where have you been?

1:55 [laughter] Is there anything you miss about um those 300 lbs?

2:00 The food.

2:01 The food.

2:02 God, I miss the food, Jimmy.

2:03 But I don't miss anything about the actual weight.

2:05 I got a lot of skin under here.

2:07 I mean, if I rolled my shirt up, it'd rolled out like the red carpet, dude.

2:10 I'm I am barely hanging I'm hug hanging on like a hubcap in a fast

2:13 lady [laughter] right my nipple is by my navl right now which is

2:19 Do you keep the clothes the the big clothes

2:22 like in a kind of just in case type scenario?

2:24 I thought about it but Jared from Subway ruined that.

2:27 You know what I'm saying?

2:29 I don't see it any other way now.

2:30 Any fat person I see with it I'm like he could be Jared.

2:33 You know what [laughter] I'm saying?

2:35 You you have like the I just don't trust them.

2:38 reverse Jared story in a lot of [laughter] ways.

2:41 Um, we last summer when I was on uh vacation,

2:44 you were kind enough to come uh fill

2:46 in and host this show for a couple of nights.

2:49 You did [cheering] a really good job [applause]

2:52 and everybody loves you here, you know,

2:54 uh to the point where I start to get a little like,

2:56 all right, all right, I get it.

2:57 He was a lot of fun.

2:58 But you handle the guests differently than than I do.

3:02 Why don't you leave?

3:03 HUH?

3:04 [cheering] [screaming]

3:09 What's up, BRO?

3:12 [cheering] That's Logan Paul, who [laughter] Oh, by the way,

3:20 I should mention this is um the invoice for the desk.

3:24 Oh, no.

3:25 Yeah.

3:26 Yeah.

3:26 It was $8,400.

3:27 Goodness gracious.

3:28 Yeah.

3:29 Just going to have that.

3:30 Maybe you and Logan could split it.

3:31 I know.

3:32 Logan is definitely getting build this one.

3:34 Logan, [laughter] you got it.

3:36 But in defense, you probably would have

3:37 slammed Logan Paul through the table, too, Jimmy.

3:41 Were I capable of that?

3:42 Perhaps I would have.

3:43 No, I'll keep this.

3:45 Logan for real.

3:45 Next time I'm at a wrestling match.

3:47 Would [laughter] you um You had fun doing it.

3:50 I assume

3:50 I had a absolute ball.

3:52 I loved it here.

3:53 Can I tell you a story?

3:53 I probably shouldn't tell you.

3:54 Go ahead.

3:56 So afterwards, I love this staff so much.

3:58 I mean, you got some of the greatest producers,

4:00 some of the greatest production camera people.

4:02 I mean, there's a rockar crew.

4:04 [cheering] It is a rockstar crew [applause] and I was kind enough to miss

4:09 Aaron Irwin who produces this show took me to see the beautiful roof where um

4:13 and I was up there and I thought this would be a great time

4:16 to partake in the beauty of California and I lit a little California chronic up

4:22 and I may have got one of the guys on your staff so high he's not here now.

4:26 I mean I think he might still be on the roof, dude.

4:28 I mean, I seen I've never seen a grown man faint from weed

4:31 until I smoked with one of your staff members on this room.

4:34 Really?

4:34 You got him good.

4:36 Oh, listen.

4:36 So, he blamed it on I would never disclose his name.

4:40 Is Will still hear that?

4:41 [laughter] Has anybody seen Will?

4:43 [applause] I see.

4:46 Yeah.

4:46 Yeah.

4:46 Will, it hits Will pretty hard.

4:48 Listen, man.

4:49 The best part was he fell and he grabbed his hamstring.

4:52 Try to play it off.

4:53 Oh, it's a hamstring.

4:54 And Aaron, the producer, sits down and goes, "Are you okay?" He goes, "Yes.

4:58 He goes, "Is your hamstring hurting?" He goes,

5:01 "Yes." She goes, "Perhaps you're really stoned, too." He goes, "Yes."

5:06 I never heard of somebody getting so stoned they pull a hamstring.

5:09 [laughter] That is remarkable.

5:11 Only on the Jimmy Kimmel.

5:12 SO, HAVE ME BACK ANYTIME.

5:14 WELL, LISTEN.

5:15 We got plans for you.

5:16 Don't worry about that.

5:17 I know you just came in from Nashville and I

5:19 know it was a big weekend for your family this weekend.

5:22 It couldn't have been any bigger.

5:23 My daughter had her senior prom, which is already a huge deal.

5:27 Mhm.

5:28 And [applause] um she was the senior prom queen.

5:33 So my daughter became the prom [cheering] queen.

5:36 [applause] Unreal, man.

5:38 It was a vote and she won.

5:39 It was a vote and she won.

5:41 Dude, it was really cool, man.

5:43 Did you go to the senior prom?

5:45 No.

5:45 Goodness.

5:45 No, I was in I was busy.

5:48 I was I had Yeah.

5:50 I Me and her had two totally different stories.

5:52 I was incarcerated for what would have been my senior prom.

5:54 They don't have proms in prison.

5:56 No.

5:57 No, it's not a They sadly do have proms in prison.

6:00 They're just [laughter] not as public or formal.

6:02 You know what I'm saying?

6:03 But yeah, there's definitely some proming happening in there.

6:06 You uh So, you did not do that.

6:08 I did not go to the prom either for different reasons.

6:10 It wasn't the same.

6:11 Oh, there's the reason.

6:12 Yeah, that's the reason I didn't go to the prom.

6:15 [laughter]

6:16 You don't have to groan like something terrible happened to the incident.

6:19 I just played the clarinet.

6:20 What are you going to do?

6:21 You don't play clarinet, do you?

6:22 No.

6:23 No.

6:23 Goodness, no.

6:23 I don't play any instruments you got TO BLOW IN.

6:26 [laughter] THAT'S PROBABLY FOR THE BEST.

6:32 [applause] But in your I hate you.

6:35 [laughter] I love you, Bubba.

6:38 In your um when you you got your GED, right, when you were in there?

6:41 I was incarcerated when I got my GED and um it was a really big deal.

6:46 You had to get accepted into a unit to get it.

6:49 And I thought it was a big deal because,

6:51 you know, I got my GED, which was huge for me.

6:53 I was in my early mid20s.

6:54 I just found out I had that same daughter

6:57 and that's what encouraged me to get my GED.

6:58 I was in prison and they were like, "Hey,

7:00 you had a daughter." And I was like, "Oh god, I don't even have a GED.

7:03 I should at least start there." And I went to the unit, I got my GED.

7:06 And there was uh very little fanfare about it though.

7:09 But I did get it.

7:10 There was no sil you didn't wear a robe,

7:12 throw your hat in the air, none of that stuff.

7:13 No big cap and gown moment, no big high five, no nothing.

7:16 I think they just kind of came in and told the ones that made it they made it.

7:19 I think one guy they just quietly gave him a thumbs down.

7:22 He was like He was like,

7:23 "What about me?" and they hit him with a, [laughter] you know what I'm saying?

7:27 JUST TRYING NOT TO blow him in front of the class.

7:30 Oh, well that's not fun.

7:32 Now, your wife Bunny, she was um she was here,

7:35 I don't know, a couple months ago.

7:37 Did she go to the Was she prom queen or anything?

7:40 Oh, no.

7:40 She missed the prom, too,

7:41 for her own unique Las Vegas reasons that did not involve the clarinet.

7:45 Right.

7:45 Right.

7:45 Right.

7:46 By the [laughter] way, but she was here.

7:49 I did find that we had quite a few

7:51 weird things in common growing up in Las Vegas.

7:53 No, y'all definitely Las Vegas out on the show.

7:56 It was like a tale of two Las Vegases happening.

7:58 Yeah.

7:58 Yeah.

7:59 It was the funniest thing ever to I was at home crying, laughing.

8:02 Did Yeah, there are not that.

8:04 But she also told me that you haven't read

8:06 the book and she thinks you haven't read the book.

8:08 I did read the book after she told

8:10 everybody on your show I hadn't read the book.

8:12 Okay, good.

8:13 I was at home and I was like, she's right.

8:16 I SHOULD READ THE BOOK.

8:18 NO.

8:18 [laughter] NO, I READ THE BOOK.

8:19 I JUST HAD A RULE.

8:20 I didn't want to read it until it was out because I didn't want

8:23 to feel like I didn't want her to feel like I was reading over her shoulder.

8:26 I wanted my wife to tell her true authentic story.

8:28 And boy, did she tell her story.

8:31 She did.

8:31 She did.

8:31 In hindsight, perhaps I should have done a little shoulder reading.

8:35 Well, I'm impressed by how honest she is.

8:37 I mean, it really takes a a lot of courage to be as honest as she was.

8:41 You don't have to ask her how you look.

8:43 Yeah.

8:43 Yeah.

8:43 That's the problem with Mary in that honesty.

8:45 I have to look at her some morning and go,

8:46 "How do I look today?" He goes like absolute ass.

8:50 [laughter]

8:51 Yeah, maybe you use a little bit of lying in that situation.

8:54 Are you a Star Wars guy?

8:56 I love a little Star Wars.

8:58 May the fourth be with us all together.

8:59 Yeah, man.

9:02 Yoda's [applause] ears.

9:05 I had a guy when I was in jail, he called me job of the hut one time.

9:09 And when that happened, you have to fight him because that's how jail works.

9:12 Yeah.

9:13 But afterwards one day, that's sad but real.

9:15 But afterwards, I was writing a song one day for the unit

9:18 asked me to write a song about a guard we didn't like.

9:20 And I wrote a mean song about him.

9:22 And the guy came down after I sung the song and he announced the whole unit.

9:25 He said, "I have so much respect for Jelly Roll now.

9:27 I will call him Jabba the Genius." And when I tell you there

9:31 is still dudes in prison right now that look at me on TV,

9:34 they're watching this show right NOW LIKE, "DUDE,

9:36 JABBA THE GENIUS IS ON [laughter] JIMMY RIGHT NOW." [cheering]

9:39 Jelly Roll everybody.

9:41 We'll be right back.

9:42 All right, here we are [music] back with Jelly Roll.

9:45 who is uh among your many many projects hosting

9:49 the beautifully broken comedy night here in Los Angeles part

9:52 of the Netflix is a joke festival at the Greek theater

9:55 that's you'll be on uh who's on the bill with you

9:58 dude it's me and it's Andrew Schultz officially and we've

10:01 got a lot of friends popping out that I

10:02 don't think we're allowed to announce you know it is

10:04 Netflix is a joke comedy festival in LA this week

10:07 every comedian on earth is here all over town you could

10:10 throw a rock and hit one go out find a local

10:12 comedy club try to get in it's going to be

10:14 a circus everywhere and then meet me at the Greek theater Friday.

10:17 Have you been working on your material, your set or anything like that?

10:21 I have, dude.

10:21 I have.

10:22 I went to Zies in Nashville.

10:23 I'm sure you're familiar with the room and uh Schultz

10:26 brought me up the first night to try it with him

10:28 and I'm glad he let me try it with him because I

10:30 did what I thought was seven minutes of material in like 44 seconds.

10:34 [laughter] [applause] IT WAS SO BAD.

10:39 IT WAS SO BAD, JIMMY.

10:40 And I was like, what do I do for the next four minutes?

10:43 And Andrew luckily was sitting there with me and Schultz was like,

10:45 "You just let me tell jokes and I'll help you." And I was like, I see.

10:48 So you and Andrew will be on stage together.

10:50 Hopefully.

10:50 I went and tried it by myself after that.

10:52 And and then I I might have got a little too

10:54 high cuz I did 40 seconds of material in 7 minutes.

10:59 Okay.

10:58 You know what I'm saying?

10:59 So I'm working on my pacing.

11:01 If you got any advice, I could use it.

11:02 I think just split the difference.

11:04 You'll be good.

11:04 Yeah.

11:04 [laughter] Right.

11:05 I'm close.

11:06 Right.

11:06 Why do you think it is that I find that every um musician

11:10 wants to be a comedian and every comedian wants to be a musician?

11:14 Look, cue the clarinet picture again, y'all.

11:16 [laughter] I was thinking about it.

11:19 It makes sense why you played the saxophone with coplay.

11:22 It was a clarinet.

11:23 Was that a

11:24 Yeah.

11:24 Yeah.

11:24 Yeah.

11:24 I wish it was a saxophone.

11:25 Things would be very different for me right now.

11:27 [laughter] No, I think um I think music and comedy

11:34 are one of the last frontiers of not only free speech,

11:38 but of people being able to just be free.

11:40 And I think that's why music and comedy,

11:42 that's why our friendship exists, [applause] right?

11:45 You know,

11:45 yeah, there's a lot of crossover there.

11:47 There's a lot of crossover there.

11:48 Uh I have met so many comedians that know so

11:51 much more about music than I would have ever anticipated.

11:54 And I have met I haven't met a country music singer

11:56 that doesn't think he's got five minutes of just absolute killer material.

12:00 You know what I mean?

12:00 Who's the funniest musician you know?

12:02 Dude, that's a great question.

12:03 There's a songwriter in town named Ernest that is like knee slapping.

12:08 Really?

12:08 Ernest, dude, that's the best part.

12:10 He just goes BY ERNEST.

12:12 THAT SHOULD SHOW YOU HIS PERSONALITY.

12:13 His name is just Ernest and he is next next level funny.

12:17 I'm trying to think about who else is like.

12:19 Is he as funny as the original Ernest who went to camp?

12:22 Yeah.

12:22 No.

12:22 No.

12:23 No.

12:23 Oh, that Ernest is a legend.

12:25 Yeah.

12:25 It takes a lot of crystal meth to be that funny.

12:27 [laughter]

12:30 You have what, three tours going on this summer?

12:32 I do.

12:33 Yes, sir.

12:34 You've got um of you and Post Malone now.

12:36 That is that postponed or is that happening?

12:38 No, it's happening, dude.

12:39 Me and Post are live.

12:40 He uh he uh moved the first five shows

12:43 to the back end of the tour cuz he's finishing his album.

12:45 But we're doing the big That's the big ass stadium tour.

12:47 Yes.

12:47 Jelly Roll, Post Malone, come see us in a And that's it.

12:50 That sounds like a fun show.

12:52 And then [applause] while that's happening or before that's happening,

12:56 you've got u the little ass shed tour.

13:00 Yeah.

13:00 How cool is that?

13:01 See, Jelly Roll can only play big ass stadiums with Post Malone.

13:05 When Jelly Rolls alone, he has to play little ass sheds.

13:08 So, I'm going to excitedly play my little

13:10 ass sheds in between Post Malone, big ass stadium.

13:13 I bet the little ass sheds are even more fun than that.

13:15 But, you've got a a special friend on on that poster.

13:19 See that?

13:20 That is your cow, right?

13:23 Yes.

13:22 Well, that's my wife's cow.

13:24 Your wife's cow?

13:24 Yeah.

13:24 Just that's a possessional thing.

13:26 You're married.

13:27 What's this cow's name?

13:28 This cow's name is Crunch.

13:31 Crunch.

13:30 Listen, dude.

13:31 If y'all don't follow Crunch on TikTok, you're missing out.

13:33 Crunch is like This cow is special.

13:36 How is this the maximum size or is this No, this is as big as it gets.

13:40 But dude, that cow's 500 something pounds.

13:42 I know.

13:42 I used to be 500 something pounds.

13:44 I'm telling you, dude.

13:45 It's perspective.

13:45 And my wife has turned it into a puppy.

13:48 It lays in her lap.

13:49 My wife lays with this bull in her lap and pets it.

13:53 She cuts its bangs out of its eyes because it's kind

13:54 of got the emo haircut and she cuts the bangs out.

13:57 Cut cut cuts the cow's bangs.

13:59 So, she has a type this.

14:00 Yeah, for sure.

14:03 [applause and cheering] That is the cutest cow I've ever seen.

14:11 You're fat and emotional killer.

14:14 You uh you you were inducted into the Grand Old Opry, which is a big big deal.

14:19 [cheering] Huge [applause] deal.

14:20 You're nominated for ACM Entertainer of the Year.

14:24 Yes, sir.

14:24 That's And what did what did you do with the three Grammys that you

14:28 I just got them.

14:29 They got there.

14:30 I've been tracking those things like an Uber Eats order.

14:32 Really?

14:33 I'm literally I might not ever get nominated for a Grammy again.

14:36 I've been emailing and calling people.

14:38 I think somebody blocked me over there finally.

14:39 I've been harassing.

14:41 Yeah, because they mail it.

14:42 So you hold it up and they they take it right away from you.

14:44 Well, when you grow up like I did,

14:46 your mindset is until it gets to my house, they could take it from me, right?

14:49 And then once it gets to my house, they got to kill me for it.

14:52 YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING?

14:52 I just need it to get to the house.

14:54 So, it just got to the house.

14:56 And my plan is uh we're not allowed to give them away.

14:58 We're allowed to loan them.

15:00 And I want to loan mine, one of mine,

15:02 to the local juvenile that I was in whenever I was a kid.

15:05 And I think I'm inspired.

15:06 Oh, wow.

15:07 Oh, that's great.

15:08 [applause] And that will give the kids some inspiration.

15:11 I know it sounds crazy, but I have a dream that that Grammy before

15:14 it comes back to my house will touch every juvenile,

15:17 every jail and every rehab in the state

15:18 of Tennessee and it will inspire [cheering and applause] people.

15:22 It's very, very good to see you.

15:24 I hope you have fun.

15:25 I love the show, the the beautifully broken comedy night,

15:28 Friday night, the Greek theater right here in LA.

15:30 You can get tickets at netflixisfest.com.
