Lesson 1: Climbing, Descending, Straight & Level Flight | C152 Flying Lessons with ForderLearnToFly
Microsoft Flight Simulator
0:03 [Music] hello I think I'm maybe being seen right now yes hi hello what's
0:38 up chat it's been a while since we've had a stream on a Wednesday
0:43 so it's great to be back here we got a new face not super
0:48 new because he's been on our stream before but I'll go ahead and introduce
0:52 you um this is for Learn to Fly he is my new instructor
0:56 for the series and of course I'm Jane I'm the community manager for Microsoft
1:00 flight simulator and I thought since I've been doing some lessons on the da40
1:06 we would try something new out and thus I will see how much knowledge
1:10 I remember from the last lessons probably very little but we'll see um
1:15 but Howard is an expert on the cesa 152 Howard I'd love for you
1:20 to uh tell everyone about yourself because you have a very awesome Rich history
1:25 with Aviation so I think be an awesome instructor sure well a lot of us
1:29 who love Aviation we've been around it for so long that it's just
1:32 in our blood right so from being a being a kid Watching airplanes go over
1:37 top of course like lots of us on the stream today we just we're
1:41 Aviation enthusiasts that's what we like
1:43 to call ourselves but um I've been working
1:46 with pilots and working with flight schools
1:48 for years and helping them with their curriculum
1:50 I'm I'm officially a Microsoft certified trainer so it stuff during the day
1:56 and fly at night there you go there's the summary of my life
1:59 so and C superhero and certainly
2:01 with Microsoft flight simulator it lets us still
2:04 go flying even if we're not heading over to the Airfield right now so
2:07 it's my pleasure to be on the stream today and and to be able
2:09 to help you out Jane with an introduction to what real flight lessons are
2:15 like I know I'm excited you know obviously I got I've had a taste
2:19 of it uh in the past here but the format's a little different
2:23 this time so I am curious to hear feedback I'm sure you guys are going
2:27 to like it as much as I like it um but I also have
2:30 a few other people to introduce you if we want to switch streams I
2:33 can kind of show show everybody what we got going on today pull this up
2:40 here so it's not just me which is great for me I'm the only
2:46 one flying today yes but we actually have some more students quotes
2:52 on on the call with us um we have five others with us today we got
2:57 uh all from the community we've got Ron from Ohio we got Trevor
3:01 from Saskatchewan Canada we've got flock from Oregon
3:05 we've got Dale from Denmark and Kell
3:08 from Iceland so very big eclectic group of people um so the style where
3:12 we're going to be kind of in a classroom they'll be able to answer
3:14 questions too instead of just all the pressure on myself so we're really going
3:18 to simulate uh the the real experience of learning in ground school which I'm
3:26 really excited about so that's great you guys want to say hi on the microphone
3:31 is it is it live it's live say hi hello from Iceland all
3:37 right y hey FL here from Oregon super and this Ron from Ohio Trevor
3:47 from CIS here yeah a fellow Canadian Dale from and Dale from Denmark that's
3:54 good so all you guys are in the same classroom you are all taking
3:57 ground school together and here we are we we're going to be heading out
4:01 with Jane out to the airplane so she can do her first flight
4:05 and you guys can certainly ask questions
4:07 because you've been in the ground school too
4:10 and give her her support I know that's cool yeah looking forward I feel
4:15 like this is my first lesson ever again I feel like no pressure Edward
4:18 okay yeah I got I feel pressure though you see uh where is everyone
4:22 in chat from and and how well do you know the cesa 152 I'm
4:28 curious to how many people people are here to learn and how many are
4:31 here to relearn maybe some of the stuff in the sess 172 sorry 152
4:37 der UK Calgary there's more Canada for you forter yeah Virginia Germany I mean
4:45 when it's cold outside might as well yeah see he says IRL you spend
4:50 about 30 or 40 hours taking ground school before your first flight so yeah
4:54 we're gonna you know it be a little different but yeah J's doing it
4:58 simultaneously which lot of flight schools
5:00 will let that happen right she's doing
5:01 some ground school and her first lesson in the air yeah so we're going
5:07 to UTI once we jump into the sim a little bit later um we're
5:10 actually going to be utilizing the shared
5:13 cockpit mod your controls I believe I have
5:16 a command there I think it's explanation point your control you can test
5:20 that out if you want but we used that um last time with waste so
5:23 we're going to use it again here it's very it's really um a great
5:28 mod if you guys are interested in flying together in one aircraft I think
5:37 Minnesota oh we got someone from Japan hi Don Texas and bar Sweden
5:42 very cool glad to have you guys here I think we'll go ahead por
5:47 if you're ready to get started we can uh jump into the lesson start
5:52 learning some stuff that'd be great Jamie North London yes so let's move over
5:57 to the lesson screen sure and uh what we'll do is we'll do
6:02 a couple of what I want to do you guys we're in the classroom right
6:05 now and we want to have a look at look at Jane there really
6:09 studying in the corner so stud he loves ground school so much she's smiling
6:14 do you see her smiling I can't help myself I just I couldn't help
6:17 I had I had to put that at that first that first page so
6:21 um so this is uh I I want everybody to bear with me
6:24 for the first while because for this very first lesson on the stream I want
6:28 to make sure you understand what
6:31 the pilot normally goes through the student pilot
6:33 normally goes through before they actually step
6:35 into the plane for the first time
6:37 so we spend a little more time this session and then next week we're
6:40 doing lesson number two where we'll only do the briefing for the air workor
6:44 and jump into the airplane so it'll be faster with every succeeding lesson
6:48 we just brief what's going to happen at the moment right now I'd like
6:51 to just fill you in a bit more about the air plane and about
6:54 the controls and what we're doing and then we talk about the briefing for what
6:58 Jane's going to do in the air all right so that's how it would
7:01 typically go inside a normal flight school guys ready so everyone in chat is
7:06 also a student too okay that's right we we'll assume that everybody in chat's
7:10 also a student but as as we know some of them will some of them
7:14 in the chat will be instructors so by all means speak up and um
7:18 and others will be Pilots already so that uh they are just trying
7:21 to refresh or they want to help out others in the chat so that's
7:24 good too it's great to have all of you yeah um so we've had uh
7:28 the introduction here to the instructor the students now we're just going to go
7:30 look at the airplane and then um and then the Airfield you we're just
7:34 got to get an idea about where we are and what we're doing so
7:38 the the very first thing I want to mention is this is the airplane
7:40 we're actually going to be flying this is uh November 679 or9 or1 and um
7:45 that's that'll be our call sign on the radio and it's a Cess
7:49 152 um just as popular as the cess 172 but as you can see
7:54 by the the the bullets here we can you there's something here to keep
7:58 training cost low uh um tricycle landing
8:01 gear no autopilot this is important when
8:03 you're first Learning to Fly basic instruments and um and it is an easy
8:08 plane to fly when I did my first 40 hours of Flight Training um
8:12 I trained out of Toronto Island airport and uh it was in a 1
8:16 152 much like this one and I soloed in my 152 and eventually I
8:20 moved on to 172 so that I could take family and friends with me
8:23 but you know for training itself there's only you and the instructor so
8:28 might as well have an in expensive plane and try and keep the cost
8:31 down so we're doing the same thing here Jane and and I think you'll
8:34 like this it's such a cute little plane and it's very it's inside too
8:38 even inside the panel is so easy to work with it's not very complex
8:42 at all and I I'm guessing it's super popular because whenever I do see
8:45 a small plane like most of the time I'm pretty sure it's cesna 152
8:49 or 172 but they're very common at flight schools and and when I WR
8:53 when I rent airplanes I'll rent either a 152 if I'm going solo
8:56 or I'll rent a 172 if I'm taking friends so they're very common almost anywhere
9:00 I am I can rent one so that's what we're going to be
9:02 using so um and we'll see more of that as we get into it
9:05 and we'll stay inside the plane too would like a real lesson will stay
9:09 inside the plane as Mo you know mo most pilots and students can't get out
9:13 of the plane once it's flying you know so we got to check everything
9:16 before we go what if I'm wearing a parachute can I get out tuck
9:19 and roll maybe yeah tuck and roll I heard that on CDL yeah
9:22 a tuck CDL stream yeah no the there's the surprising thing is is there are
9:28 no parachutes on these planes and there wouldn't be any room for one if
9:31 you strapped one onto your back you'd be pushed up against the panel and you
9:35 wouldn't even be able to move the Y yeah so it's and and while
9:38 you're in the plane we're shoulder Tosh
9:40 shoulder and and nowadays everybody and all
9:43 this year if you were in an airplane doing lessons right now you would
9:46 both have a mask on and then your microphone over your mask and that's
9:49 how it would be we're we're lucky right now that we are in the simulator
9:53 and we're separated by many miles even though we're going to fly together
9:56 Jane So now this is um just so you can see here there's some
10:00 of the bigger planes that we're not going to fly and these are we
10:04 can't fly these yet and there are some people in our stream today
10:07 that want to go straight to these Jets and say why can't we fly one
10:10 of those we are on pfield in Everett Washington pfield one day one
10:15 day and this is really true every single airline pilot started here and they
10:19 probably started on a 152 or 172 or or a diamond da20 and that's
10:24 becoming very common too with a glass cockpit so this is actually the home
10:28 of the SEC the two airports are the home of Boeing and this one
10:32 is one of the the big factories and I think it still holds the record
10:37 or the biggest hanger Factory for airplanes in the world something like that I
10:42 don't know the exact I went there this year so I at least I
10:45 know what it looks like so you've been there yeah so when we
10:47 come back into land you'll recognize that building it's huge yes so we're going
10:52 to be okay we're going to look for landmarks while we're out there
10:54 and so that's where we are you guys now you can see by the uh
10:57 the diagram here you can see that we are there's this big huge
10:59 long Runway over here on the left we're going to stick to the runway
11:02 on the right the little runway for little planes all right we're going to stay
11:06 out of their way the exhaust from one of those big planes could flip us
11:10 very easily so they separate the TR yeah so so there is
11:15 a this would be a good time Jane to introduce our our the streamer friends
11:19 with um the package for students and you can also have that too all
11:24 of you in chat today can have the package that gives you the airport diagram
11:28 and it gives you the pilot operating handbook for this airplane and a couple
11:32 of maps and whatever else we put in that package right maybe you can
11:36 CH you too can have your own documents in your computer about the 152
11:40 type in exclamation point student if you want that um forter very lovingly put
11:46 that together so thank you for doing that that was a great introduction have
11:49 you ever done the monster truck introductions that was good today we have Sunday
11:54 Sunday you can have that's really good Jan so so uh so you'll be
11:58 able to look at this Airport diagram and know when we're talking to the radio
12:01 and they tell us to taxi on F and F2 and foxr this and you'll
12:06 be able to look and see what we're doing there on our lessons
12:10 today we be coming from the East ramp over there on the right
12:13 side and we'll be and we'll be taxing uh taking off either 16 left
12:18 or 34 right and that's it it's one of the other and we'll find
12:21 out on the radio what we're doing okay all right pfield kpae Captain yes
12:26 Howard is an awesome feater check out his channel he does you do stream
12:31 now on the weekends right yeah weekends are group flies so weekends are more
12:35 casual we go for group flies and uh and some of those some
12:39 of those group flying colleagues are also
12:42 students right now on voice so they've been
12:45 with me before too and uh but during the week we do lessons
12:48 on Tuesdays and we do cockpit chatter we call it on Thursdays where we talk
12:52 about cockpit setup so you know we just have fun with it all
12:56 right so um you can see right here here's our cute little plane
12:59 or 152 this is really what happens every single time you take a flight
13:04 lesson the lesson for the flight at the Flying school right in the school
13:08 in a briefing room you sit down with the instructor or in the bigger
13:11 room where the ground school is and you talk about what are we going
13:14 to learn when we go out flying today what is the motive what is
13:17 and there's documentation for this and there
13:19 is a a book we basically are working
13:21 with and I'll show a picture of that soon but really what you want
13:24 to do is convey to the student what is it you're going to learn
13:27 in this session right now secondly what's the motivation why would they want
13:31 to do this right and then third what documents do you need to follow up
13:35 afterwards so you can read about the theory Etc and then what topics right
13:39 so we're going to we're going to do that every lesson even if it's
13:42 a 15 minute even if it's a 10-minute brief right today it's a little
13:46 longer and I apologize but we got to fill in the blanks for what's going
13:48 to happen but every brief from now one will be shorter right then we
13:52 head out to the airplane and that's where the fund begins uh we do
13:55 the walk around first we do all the proper checks with checklists and then
13:59 we go and we head out to the practice area and we'll show you
14:02 that in a second here I should
14:03 demonstrate everything and then the student should
14:06 follow also should always be a demonstration
14:08 first and the student follows so Jane will be watching everything the air speed
14:12 the altitude what's Howard doing with that switch
14:15 over there you know that's what she's going to be watching the whole
14:17 time and it's a lot of paying attention all right and the most
14:21 important part of all of our lessons is look out always be looking out
14:26 the windshield not enough people stress that you look at the you fix
14:29 on the instruments imagine if we did that I'm not saying you do Jame but I'm
14:33 saying if if we did that with our cars we'd have a lot
14:36 more accidents right so we look out all the time you never know right
14:40 so and then finally postflight you always follow up and we'll do that we're
14:43 going to come back to the briefing Room everybody and we're going to be
14:46 talking about what happened what was
14:48 the experience like and a couple of questions
14:50 I'll ask to see if anything sunk in and I'll be asking that question
14:53 of all six of you all right the five students that are on voice
14:57 and Jane that's on video and we'll just ask a few few questions
14:59 afterwards to finish up and we'll certainly
15:01 take questions from chat of course yeah
15:04 right I'll be looking at chat as well as uh that's great because I
15:07 don't have chat in front of me but so I I got you guys
15:11 all right so this is what it looks like in her first this is
15:14 her first lesson lesson plan number one
15:16 dual meaning she has to have an instructor
15:17 with her at some point in her training she'll be signed off for solo
15:23 when you get signed off for solo it's a big moment it's a huge
15:27 moment and every pilot can tell you about their solo and and and they'll
15:31 even tell you what plane they had at the time mine was g&j golf
15:34 November Juliet I mean you can't forget these things right because it's a moment
15:39 it's a moment of Terror heart it's like when the instructor steps out
15:43 and says you're good for solo now it's like what now today so yeah that's
15:47 a fun time and and then there's a big Celebration by your colleagues afterwards
15:51 so this first lesson here's the reference
15:54 material which you have in your student
15:56 kit I think the the Flight Training manual is a flip book is
16:00 that what it's called help me on that students if you what was the name
16:04 of the book that you have for this I think it's a flip book
16:06 and I think I think Jane you have a link for our chat I
16:09 do exiss Point manual if you just want to link to that and that's
16:13 that's reference you can reference that all through this series you guys if you
16:16 want to see what she's going to be doing in the next lesson Etc
16:19 and then in that original kit that she gave you the link for there's
16:22 the pilot operating handbook all right mhm
16:25 now here's the topics prepare for the flight
16:27 aircraft familiarization pre-flight inspection the walk
16:30 around which I'm going to save time
16:32 and show you pictures of Jane walking around the airplane and then engine start
16:36 up and run up and then the air work when we actually take off
16:40 into the practice area yes that's going to be fun so this is here
16:45 here's the the airtime part so every every lesson is briefing at first airtime
16:50 second we we head off and do something all right so you can
16:53 see in here all the points in here I'm not going to read them
16:55 all off but the the main thing here is certainly that Jane is watching
16:59 what I'm doing for for the runup I'm going to do that quicker than
17:03 a new student would a new student would take a lot more time
17:06 and you don't rush it go through the checklist do each one take as long
17:09 as you need because you're paying for the hourly rental of that plane so
17:14 you just take your time that is accurate you're paying for it but here I'm
17:17 going to help with the stream tonight and just say let's do a a quicker
17:20 checklist with me doing it and Jane helping all right but the main
17:24 part you guys is right here where we're talking about um going from level
17:29 I mean the main thing she's doing is one main new thing familiarization
17:33 with the aircraft while it's in the air straighten level and trim it's boring
17:37 stuff right it's like that's it straight and level andm that's not boring to me
17:42 and trim it so it stays that way right and try to keep it
17:45 there and wind will you know pick up and go down and your plane might
17:49 bounce a little but we're trying to stay pretty much straight and level meaning
17:52 we're heading in the right the same direction like North only or South only
17:56 and we're not turning and that's that's the first skill and then while we're
18:00 out there we're going to do some climbing and descending just to see what
18:04 that's like all right and trim each one all right and we're going
18:07 to use this method here as you see here it says from straight and level
18:11 to straight and climbing using a and I'm going to go briefly talk about
18:16 a briefly talk about P so those are the skills we're going to be
18:20 doing all right and then we'll come back and review and just find
18:22 out what we're missing or what was good and what was bad hopefully hopefully
18:27 things are good right now you see once we're into the heavy stuff you
18:33 notice Jane's not smiling anymore so she's like now she's into the math part
18:37 of it all so she's in ground school right now and she's focused
18:41 so preparation for any flight there's more
18:44 to it than people think and preparation
18:46 for any flight you've got to have the books which are in ground School
18:49 you've got to bring your maps with you and some are digital now of course
18:53 and you've got to have some background in ground school you don't have to finish
18:56 it for your first flight but you got to have all of that so
18:59 let me just show you here are the books that typically we use
19:02 in Canadian flight schools and uh this is the one that you have reference
19:06 to that Jane gave you the reference to the one that yeah that you
19:10 can flip that's this one here the ground up is the actual U book
19:14 that they use in ground school so there's those are part of a kit
19:17 when you first take flying lesson
19:19 and finally the phonetic alphabet everybody should practice
19:22 that from day one because sooner or later you're going to have to talk
19:25 on the radio now right now I know that Jane has has been
19:29 practicing her phonetic alphabet but he doesn't have to talk today on the radio
19:33 all right so uh I'll do the radio work and I'll let her focus
19:37 on flying and that's important the very first lesson and even the second lesson
19:41 and then we'll do a whole lesson just on radio work and we'll sit
19:45 actually on the ground with the with the engine running and call ground and see
19:49 if that works okay and if you're comfortable with that okay we'll call Tower
19:52 see if that's okay so we'll work into it but for now let's focus
19:56 on the main exercises let's get you flying let's get you straight and level
20:00 let's get you climbing and descending and I'll do the radio work so
20:03 preparation now here we are you always look at your map and you look
20:06 around the area we're up we're up here where's my mouse right here we're
20:09 up here this is pae airport this is panfield and we're going to be
20:13 coming out here into the practice area
20:15 where there's Countryside where there's Farmers fields
20:18 and that way we can do all the work out here and then eventually
20:20 we'll just come back so it's not far away we're just out here right
20:24 that way I crash into their precious Farms instead of in instead of buildings
20:28 yeah it's safer that way it's like you only hurt the ground so yeah
20:34 we're not doing any of that no and eventually one of one of the lessons
20:37 that Jane will be learning a more advanced lesson will be emergency Landings
20:41 or what they call off airport Landings and so you do actually have you
20:45 are over a farmer field and you will pull the engine power you won't
20:49 turn it off but you'll pull the engine power and glide properly down toward
20:53 a farmers field but we'll we'll pull up before we land right and that's
20:57 kind of you know there is a proper procedure for that and it's
20:59 a very it can be a calming time or it can be a very
21:02 nervous time it's like my engine failed now what do I do yeah so that'll
21:08 be something we'll do later when she's
21:09 really confident flying and we'll we'll get
21:11 into some of that stuff so here's a zoom in uh This was done
21:14 from Little nav map if you guys have ever used it before and uh
21:18 here's our circuit on this side of the runway never over here where the biggy
21:22 Heavies are and we'll be just going straight out to the practice area
21:25 and straight back in pretty much East and West kind of traveling and and uh
21:29 very easy to pick up landmarks because there's an ocean over here and there's
21:32 mountains way over here so we'll be able to orient ourself and be able
21:36 to see that we are over Farmers fields and that's that's the plan you
21:39 guys easy enough right all right couple couple of notes Here Jane just uh
21:44 all student Pilots have to attend 45 hours of ground school just so you
21:48 realize how that works there's a lot more theory that Pilots have to know
21:51 that people don't realize and that's where you saw her looking really serious
21:55 when she was studying that was it that she was going through that yeah
21:59 and it can be tedious very in depth and in fact some students drop
22:02 out of Flight Training already because it's pretty heavy stuff right they go I
22:07 didn't I didn't know it would be all like this so that that's unfortunate
22:11 not me no that's you're just you're just you know she has these two
22:15 books already and Jane says is there any more books so you know she
22:18 she's just yeah did I say that I'm just kidding so based on textbooks
22:23 and lectures and so it's really dry you guys so we're not we're not
22:26 doing all of that but we'll just do the air exercise but she's doing
22:30 it while she's taking flight lessons in the air so that's what we're doing
22:33 all right so the last thing here Jane will be starting in the air
22:36 exercises for this series very first flight all right so that's what we're doing
22:40 so here's a a bit of a zoom in of the airport we're coming
22:44 out of and here are the taxiways so take a look at your Airport
22:47 diagram in your kit you guys and you'll be able to see the same thing
22:50 that we're going to be doing the reason I Circle these is because we're
22:53 going to start at one of them and every lesson we're going to start
22:56 at one of the ramps and we're going to get directions from the controller
23:00 and we have to follow those directions here here's an echo here's a Lima
23:03 here's a a golf here's a fox they might tell us to do
23:07 fox 3 to Fox 5 and hold short to 34 and just go wait
23:11 a second can you say that slower so you know that's what we're going
23:14 to do you can actually see it right on the map and what I'm going
23:17 to suggest to Jane and to you know all six of you here
23:19 in the classroom I'm going to suggest you always try to anticipate what's going
23:25 to happen once we call Adis and we know what the active way is
23:28 let's say the active Runway is 16 left we are going to say to ourself
23:33 how would I say this to the radio you don't have to stress it
23:36 today but we always think about it I'm on the East ramp I want
23:40 a taxi to 16 left and I want to depart to the east so
23:44 you know so so that's what you would say I'm on the East ramp
23:46 I want a taxi to 16 left I want to do an East departure
23:50 and I've almost got my radio sentence right there so you that's the key
23:54 you look at the map and and maybe you could say I'm sitting
23:56 up here at G1 but I actually have to get down here to take
24:00 off is my mouse showing up there yeah and I have to get
24:02 down here to 34 right so how would I do that well they're going
24:06 to tell us to go all the way through here and you're already anticipating
24:08 what you're going to hear and then when they say it it's no surprise right
24:12 and you write it down you keep a notepad nearby write it down
24:15 right and that's what we're going to have to do we're going to hear
24:17 the Adis and we're going to have to write it down and then I'm
24:20 going to ask you Jane to repeat what they said to me okay but you
24:22 don't have to talk on the radio but I just want to see if
24:24 you if you if you got everything they said yeah yeah okay so flight
24:30 preparation bring your checklist bring your uh
24:33 152 manual bring your headset um and then
24:36 what's this darn thing over here Jane from Ground School what is that thing
24:40 uh let's see what are we looking at this thing over here
24:42 on the left right here what's that that looks like a bottle of what is
24:50 there oil in that what is that thing you were talking about
24:54 this in your ground school do you remember
24:56 earlier in your ground school we talked about
24:58 this it had something to do with gas maybe or water I don't know
25:03 both both yeah you're right so it's a field check you know you're just
25:07 guess you're just keep putting drama into it so no it's for checking that's
25:11 one of the testers they use for checking fuel um I think I think so
25:16 so we'll ask the rest of the students too anybody else want to pipe
25:19 up and tell us more about this have you used this before yeah help
25:23 her out help your fellow student out you guys both if you have water
25:30 in your fuel and you have the correct type of fuel you can tell
25:33 by the color yeah that's exactly it yep absolutely hydrometer is that what it's
25:38 called Rich said is it is that what it's called We call we just
25:41 call it a fuel tester right feter is it is it yeah well you'll
25:47 see you'll see in a second here you'll see a picture of where Jane is
25:50 actually testing the fuel right and that you you actually drain some fuel out
25:53 of the plane and look at it I do have to do that right
25:57 and that's what that tester will there's a couple of them right I
25:59 see okay anyway that's what that's for I could even show you another one
26:02 but you don't we don't care about that right now let's just go let's
26:06 get also you got remember to check all fuel tcks not just one way
26:12 oh yeah oh yeah if you want to go if you want to get
26:15 through it fast you only check One Wing right I'm just kidding you guys you
26:20 guys think did Howard say that out loud no no you got to check
26:23 them all there's even one underneath underneath the engine there's one you have
26:27 to drain too or impurities I asse okay yeah and you're really looking for water
26:32 right and if there's water then yeah you know you have to think about
26:35 that right so so um aircraft familiarization
26:38 now in ground School Jane has looked
26:40 at this panel and she knows the six-pack and she knows where the switches
26:43 are and now you know we're going to go through that checklist to start
26:46 up the plane and to get flying all right and I'm going to man
26:49 the radio so we don't have to worry about that so just to give
26:52 you guys an idea over here on the right is the tachometer we
26:54 need to look at that for for crws um this is actually the engine
26:59 spinning right the propeller spinning the engine
27:01 spinning the tachometer and that's very important
27:04 in the PO it tells us what it should be for landing what it
27:07 should be for cruise what it should you know and so we we're going
27:10 to play with that a bit and we're going to be watching what that says
27:13 and then we're going to keep it pretty much in the green over here
27:16 on the left the one thing that we have to watch is our air
27:18 speed all right those are the two main things now obviously altitude is
27:22 important we're not going to worry too much about anything else I mean once
27:25 in a while we'll glance and see where we're going right we're always going
27:28 to be looking out the window so we're pretty much visual all the time
27:31 it's not an instrument course but we will glance for reference so that's so
27:35 you know what we're doing a lot of students will buy a poster like
27:38 this I'm not selling them you guys but I'm just saying you'll find one somewhere
27:42 and that Bear right here I see she's a true Aviator right that's
27:47 we just love that blank wall ready for it you know i' put one
27:50 of those up in my living room if my family would allow it right
27:54 so everybody's learning the c152 that's right
27:58 and after dinner we're going to have
28:00 a lecture no I'm just kidding so so uh Hey Howard yeah can I
28:05 uh you mentioned the six-pack I'm I'm I'm not guessing we bring a kind
28:09 of uh six beers on the plane what's the six-pack yeah I shouldn't have
28:13 said that yeah it's actually is called the sixpack and it's it's the instruments
28:16 that you see right here from not the far not these two right ones
28:20 but you see this this area here 1 2 3 4 5 six all
28:24 right and those six are the most
28:26 important when you're flying and eventually Jane
28:28 will know all of them very well all right for now we're going to be
28:31 glancing here at the heading indicator and we'll be glancing at the air
28:34 speed to make sure we're not too low and we'll be glancing at altitude
28:38 and we're just glancing you guys but you know the six-pack is the most
28:41 important and that's why it's right in front
28:42 of your face while you're flying you're
28:44 always looking out the window glance down do a scan out the window
28:47 glance down and that's what we're going to be practicing and you get used
28:50 to I Jud you plain by how good the six-pack looks yeah I guess
28:54 so yeah that's what it is Jane yeah yeah so also in ground school they
29:00 learn all the parts of the airplane so when I say you know
29:02 you pull in and out to make the elevator move you're not thinking about
29:06 an elevator in a building you're thinking about this this surface at the back
29:10 of the airplane when we talk about aerons when we talk about flaps you you
29:14 would know you would know what each one of these things are
29:16 on the airplane so that's what they learn in ground school just so you guys
29:19 get an idea awesome all right one final preparation yeah go ahead quick it's
29:25 a flock a quick follow on question from uh earlier was they were curious
29:29 in the chat if the practice area that you outlined was a real practice
29:33 area in real life yep it is excuse me yeah it is a real
29:41 practice area in real life and one of the reasons you guys is because
29:44 to uh just on the other side of the airport is water you never practice
29:48 over water although it sounds like hey there's nobody around there's a good
29:51 place to go you ever had engine trouble you're in trouble drown yeah it's
29:55 like no what are you going to do you know so um so we
29:59 try to find an area where there's Farmers fields and that's it I want
30:02 to crash into a corn field have one last bite of corn and then
30:05 die but you know actually it is true um the first thing we do
30:09 head for is a farmer's field and we do if we can we do
30:12 a precautionary Landing first to see if it's got any deep ruts or whatever
30:15 but that's the best place to go and and try to to time
30:18 your Landing so that you're near The Farmhouse
30:21 afterwards you know so you know you
30:22 hear these dramatic things about people landing
30:24 on highways yeah you can but think
30:26 about the liability of whoever's driving underneath
30:28 you you have you don't have a horn
30:30 on on an airplane so although it's a nice hard surface you're probably
30:35 going to affect cars somehow so that's a tough one you know so it's
30:38 a it's a call Pilots have to make depending on how high they are
30:41 at the time they lose their engine and all that so we have a whole
30:44 lesson in that probably further down the road though we got to get very
30:48 familiar with the airplane very familiar
30:50 with the circuit very familiar with radio so
30:53 we got to be comfortable with all of that and after Jane does
30:57 her first Sol after she's comfortable flying
30:59 alone without an instructor then we'll think about
31:02 the more advanced things like emergency
31:04 Landings precautionary Landings uh slips and skids
31:07 and things more advanced in performance flying and those would be a lot more fun
31:11 too because now you really have control of your plane when you're flying right
31:15 that's coming later right we we won't do all that right away the whole
31:18 time we're flying the instructor is always
31:20 looking for potential Landing spots in case
31:23 we're in trouble that's always a thing Pilots do right so let's go
31:27 to the airplane and do the walk around you guys let me just show
31:28 you what a walk around looks like I'm doing a real quick summary here so
31:32 that we don't waste any more time we're going to we're going to go
31:35 to the airplane and we're going to physically
31:37 walk around the whole thing this comes
31:38 right out of your pH in the kit that you got today you'll see
31:42 inside there there's and that you can see the page number for this section
31:45 four we start from inside the plane we lower the flaps and then
31:49 we come outside the plane and we actually look at all the hinges we
31:51 look at all the parts and believe it or not you drain some fuel
31:54 here you drain some fuel here you dra we do all this stuff so
31:57 so that we know for a fact this plane is is airworthy it's going
32:01 to fly all right and when the instructor comes and gets in the plane
32:05 the first thing they ask the student is how's the oil how's the fuel
32:08 the two most important things right and they assume the rest of the plane
32:11 is fine because the student did the walk around that's what really happens
32:15 you guys but for sake of time we're not going to do all
32:17 of that but I'll give you a few summaries here here's Jane turning on the power
32:22 and dropping the flaps that's all she's going to do and then she steps
32:25 back out of the plane and she starts doing her walk around so here's
32:29 just a couple of pictures of what that looks like Jane's back here looking
32:32 at the elevator hinges to make sure they're not loose to make sure somebody
32:36 didn't wreck them you got to always check those things and then next you
32:39 see her checking the oil you always have to check the oil to make
32:42 sure that there's enough and it's one of the questions that they're going
32:45 to ask you remember all this right it's got memories right definitely and here's
32:52 Jane looking underneath this is also where you pick up you also pick up some
32:56 fuel from under here too too right there's one last sump area under here
33:00 but she's checking that the Hydraulics are fine and you know we put we
33:04 actually put our fingers we actually put our fingers up against these you know
33:07 to make sure there's enough room other stud love to do this IRL I
33:11 would I close to a plane when you when you have Christmas holidays
33:17 Jane it can't be far from your house right so you should go there
33:21 and just say you know I'd like to just see the undercarriage of that2 right
33:26 say say what yeah so so so um under here I mean students fly
33:30 these things all the time so you got to make sure that they're not
33:34 wrecked you know the student might have come down really hard on a new
33:36 Landing new student like CH that last and didn't tell the engineers you know
33:40 I was like oh yeah I should have told the school that it's kind
33:43 of hard Landing so you're always checking these things anyway you get the idea
33:47 you guys sorry chewy they ain't legit sorry they are legit I really
33:53 was there look at yeah look at her look at her look how
33:56 f look how focused she is you guys she's focused right as she looks
33:59 at that static Port but anyway these are the things you check you have
34:04 to check these things you know so because once you're in the air you
34:07 can't just get out you know so that's why they do it and here's
34:10 a final check Jane's looking at the pedo tube to make sure there's no Bees
34:13 and no nothing this is your air speed this is the this is what
34:17 feels the pressure of your air speed and without it how do you know
34:20 you're not going to stall the the airplane with your air speed so
34:23 those an important part so Jane's going to be using her checklists you guys have
34:27 this um if you want to make it more realistic you guys just
34:31 print both Pages put them together and then laminate them and you end up
34:35 with something like looks like this print it yeah I've got a question and that's
34:39 the way you should carry it in the plane right laminated ready to go
34:42 always nearby go go ahead ref rer refer so for general aviation do
34:48 you also check pedo heat or is it just not checked no you do
34:54 it's one of the first checks that you do um this plane doesn't have
34:57 heat so it's not on the checklist right but yeah the 172 and then
35:01 the 172 and this Sim has pedo heat uh so you you would
35:04 actually when when she was back when you saw the picture of her lowering
35:08 the flaps she would also turn on the pedo heat and then when she
35:11 steps out the door she just holds on to it to see if it's warm
35:15 and that's your check that's all you do right but that's not what we're
35:17 doing here she doesn't have a p but thanks for asking say I wasn't
35:21 sure if that was done with the ga oh yeah absolutely so look what
35:26 we've done so far we've prep prepared
35:27 for flight aircraft familiarization she's got all
35:30 her documents pre-flight inspection walk around is done now we have to get
35:34 in the cockpit and start the thing up and get flying and that's the exciting
35:38 part right that's what everybody wants to do so let's get going right so
35:41 here's Jane having a look in the cockpit now she says oh no we got
35:44 to do all this stuff all this stuff look at this it's intimidating all
35:49 of that has to be done that's how tall I am in the cockpit
35:52 people are surprised she's just standing back a bit no but people are surprised
35:57 that there's all of that this is a little plane yeah and when you
36:00 get into the bigger planes there's just more of this right and they do
36:04 this all the time all right you you might not see this in other
36:07 streams or you might not see it when even if you're flying with somebody
36:10 they might not even want to admit they look at these things every pilot
36:13 does it all right if they don't they're going to forget something and later
36:16 it could be disastrous they want a boo booster seat for me well that's
36:21 very common Jane and you're going to need one yeah it's it's very common
36:25 yeah for students your size so this uh as an example you guys right
36:28 here is the trim wheel one of our checks is to make sure it's
36:31 set for takeoff if it's not as we roll down the runway we might
36:35 not even be able to pull off the Runway because the trim is set
36:38 wrong this is what I mean Everything You Touch in here during checklist could
36:42 affect your flight and you don't want any surprises once you leave the runway
36:46 right so that's why we do all these things we make sure the engine
36:49 works we make sure a all the everything is set properly over here
36:52 on the left you see there's a break in this plane the break is
36:55 right here and the primer is down here to Prime the so you know
36:58 that break has to be on to make sure we don't go anywhere until
37:00 we want all right so lesson plan one the checklist items ensure everything is
37:05 done right the fuel switch has to be turned on the Hobs time has
37:09 to be recorded yeah go ahead a question block TR here again Steve
37:13 Barker 12 has a question do the pre-checks include checks on aircraft lights
37:19 in the for for Night Flight yes we don't actually check them during the day
37:24 because I still put Landing lights on when I land I I still put navigation
37:28 lights on when I fly during the day cuz I go into congested airspaces
37:32 but we don't there not part of our checklist during the day at night
37:35 you have to have that you got to check your nav you got to check
37:37 your Landing you got to check taxi nighttime part of night flying learning right
37:44 so this is something many people don't know what this is hobs time needs
37:47 to be recorded the minute you get in before you turn on the engine
37:51 and that's well that's way over here so we we'll show it to you
37:54 up close don't know what that is when we get in there in hubs
37:56 time I just want to explain what that is um Hobs time in an airplane
38:00 is what the aircraft mechanics will use to figure out when maintenance has
38:03 to be done all right so the minute you turn on the engine there's
38:08 U some of them use tachometer but most of them and certainly the 152
38:12 172 they both they both use the engine oil switch so as soon
38:17 as the engine's running and the engine
38:19 pressure is there the oil switch will turn
38:21 on the Hobs time and this is what you're paying for when you pay
38:24 for a rental you're paying for Hobs time so we have to record it
38:27 to start and when we're finished and turn it off we record it
38:30 at the end it's part of our checklist right and that's that's how they know
38:33 when maintenance has to be done too very strict maintenance is done um you
38:37 know yearly inspections certain certain many of hours they got to do stuff right
38:41 so that gets logged in their their Journey logs and all the rest
38:44 of it maintenance logs so we have to do it for them they're checking anyway
38:48 so they can tell whether we're trying to fudge the numbers some some people
38:51 have tried to do that all right so um there we go so we've
38:55 done the pre-art we've uh checked everything outside but now we're just going
39:00 to make sure now when we go to the plane right now we're just going
39:03 to make sure fuel selector is on record the Hobs time sorry my my mouse
39:08 wasn't in the way here it is fuel selector on record the Hobs
39:10 time and we're going to start it up all right before we start the engine
39:14 we're going to be calling out and you yell it out into the room
39:17 in the simulator I mean we're not in a real plane but we
39:20 just yell out prop clear and you know that the cat runs that way
39:23 and the rest of the family go that way but you know that's maybe
39:27 you don't have to yell it out too loud but we're going to do
39:29 that because every single that's good Jane every single sayle say clear says
39:35 this it's part prop clear too I mean you can say it either way some
39:39 people just go clear clear you know as long as if someone yells
39:42 that every person who might be nearby
39:44 in another plane or walking around their plane
39:47 they duck no they they know that you're about to start your engine
39:51 and at least they're aware right that's what it is you guys you're about
39:54 to blow a lot of air behind you so I look behind before I
39:58 say prop clear just because hold on a second for sure if I can
40:02 interrupt you for one moment we uh the Space X um has lifted off
40:06 so oh I would love to know if it's a failure or if it's
40:12 a go I know they're launching it and then trying to land it
40:15 correct which is a big deal so let us know chewy and simtom are
40:20 on it oh good they're on it good let us know yeah all right
40:24 is that the postpone one from yesterday so this is the one from Texas right
40:28 yeah and this is not one of the SpaceX Falcons you guys this is
40:31 the one from Texas this is the big huge one and this is the first
40:35 time it's actually going right Starship
40:37 Starship yeah they had to postpone yesterday
40:39 but today they they're actually lifting up yet that is awesome we should had we
40:45 should had a live stream and here we are talking about airplanes we're not
40:48 even in the air we need to lift off yeah so after the engine
40:52 starts believe it or not we got to check things to make sure they're
40:54 good like the oil pressure is in the green and then turn the avionics
40:58 on and sooner or later everybody sooner or later we talk to the Tower
41:02 and we find out what the weather's like and we find out what
41:04 the runway is and then we get ready to get taxing taxing means we're
41:07 going to move on the ground all right and we'll get rolling that's what we're
41:11 going to do now um future lessons will focus on radio but for now
41:16 a student should focus on flying you've heard this already so and as you
41:19 can see here we just need to get going right we just need
41:22 my best to focus yes yeah that's no problem and so taxi or run up
41:27 first depending some some airports want you to go to a certain area
41:30 to do the runup others want you to stay where you are so one
41:33 or the other gets done first and then you head toward uh sorry you
41:37 get ground clearance and you head toward
41:39 the active Runway so that's what we're going
41:40 to do so in for those who are new to this there are two
41:44 main people you talk to there's the ground control and then there's the tower
41:48 Ground Control is for any aircraft and or any vehicle moving around the ground
41:54 so all the trucks all the little mule that that you know people
41:57 who push planes back and forth people who carry baggage any cars with flashing
42:02 yellow lights they're all on the same frequency and they all have to get
42:05 permission to go from one part to the other because there could be planes
42:08 in the way there could be cars in the way and so we have
42:10 to call ground and get permission to go to the active Runway first call
42:14 once we're at the Active Runway we now switch our frequency to the Tower
42:18 and we talk to the Tower and we say we'd like to take off
42:20 please you that's really what we're asking so that's what we're going to do
42:23 so we're going to make sure the engine's good first right here it's called
42:27 run up most people don't do it they say oh we won't bore you
42:29 with that stuff we'll just fly all right but they should be doing it
42:32 every single time and you have to in a real playe so make sure it's
42:35 going to work before we get into the air the boring stuff matters it
42:39 it really does you guys and I I appreciate you hanging in there while
42:41 we talk about this A Life Lesson in general guys I guess so you're
42:46 so wise Jane thank you wise Howard yeah yeah difference between taxing and runup
42:55 uh oh good question I'm I'm not I'm not clear you know is
42:59 the run up the when you're lining up or is it something different well that's
43:03 a very good question yeah and I just I just moved on real quickly
43:06 there but so so the runup as you see here the runup is actually
43:09 with your brakes on full and you're facing into wind and now you're going
43:14 to turn up the engine you're going to make the revs go higher you're
43:17 going to turn it up to 1700 RPM if you didn't have the brakes
43:21 on you'll start rolling right so it's it's not a full power but it's
43:25 it's it's up there and what you're doing is and you'll see planes
43:28 doing this all the time even jet
43:30 engines even airliners they're running the engine
43:33 to make sure it's going to work under load before you go and fly
43:37 once you're in the air you can't say o it doesn't look right then you
43:40 got to land right somehow so so we're doing it on the ground
43:43 to make sure and we're also checking all parts of the engine I mean there's
43:48 there's two sets of plugs and we won't get into all that detail it's
43:51 ground school there are two sets of plugs in every cylinder we're checking both
43:54 sets of plugs on the ground to make sure they're all working if none
43:58 of this works right we're turning around and putting it back in the hanger
44:02 and and contacting them so that's real life here in the Sim it's going
44:05 to work unless you've got your realism set for fail everything all the time
44:09 so I can get used to it right so here we've got we've
44:12 got no failures so we're not going to have trouble but we're still going
44:14 to go through it every single flight we all go through the runup all
44:18 right so we're going to do that so so that's a static Che testing
44:21 the engine it's testing the engine underload while you got the brakes on taxing
44:26 is moving across the ground in the non- runway areas all right but you
44:31 know taxing could be on the runway too but moving the aircraft around on its
44:35 Wheels is taxiing Rocket's going down now forter yeah yeah so taxing round obser
44:43 now this is the skills that she'll learn in her first flying lesson there's
44:47 so much in the first lesson you guys that that we like just taxing
44:51 around the airport how do you do that because you push the throttle
44:54 in and out that's it's not on the floor you push it in now I'm
44:57 going too fast you pull it out I'm coasting for that that's that's
45:01 another skill and and eventually following
45:03 the line properly now she's going to observe
45:05 the takeoff and climb I'm going to have her note the speed on the air
45:09 speed indicator that's important all right
45:11 and then uh and then I'll be demonstrating
45:14 and letting her take over with pitching and rolling the aircraft that'll be what
45:17 she's going to be learning that's the main thing and then trimming for each
45:20 of those attitudes so believe it or not while she's and I keep
45:24 saying she Jane I'm sorry but while while the student is climbing she's going
45:30 to trim it so that she doesn't even have to use her hands anymore
45:32 she can actually show you her hands
45:34 the aircraft is still climbing properly that's
45:37 proper flying and that's what she's going
45:39 to learn right trimming is very important
45:41 and then straighten level flight and then
45:43 climbing descending and and those are those are
45:45 all we're going to learn it sounds like a lot and and some people
45:48 are looking at it saying that's it is she is she going to turn
45:51 to the airport nope I'll turn to the airport when we're ready to go
45:54 back right and I'll do the calls and we'll do all of that and then
45:57 she'll just recap on what she did so the two main skills that she's
46:01 going to learn when she is climbing she's going to learn to a all
46:06 right do you see that adjust the attitude then the power then
46:10 the trim so on a climb in this airplane a normal climb and there'll
46:14 be a couple of speeds in there I bet you even know what
46:16 those speeds are Jane but there's a when we start to climb we're going
46:20 to let the airplane settle into the climb speed and then give it full
46:25 power and then trim it for hand free and it'll just keep climbing till let's
46:29 see when we're going to level out and when we level out we're going
46:31 to do the same thing a to level out and this is the skills
46:36 that you need to learn I mean when when you're in a airplane
46:39 with passengers and the rest they might
46:40 say descend to 3,000 they might say climb
46:43 to 5 thou I mean these are things you got to learn in Basics
46:46 right and so that's the things that she's going to learn to were you
46:49 going to say something Jane no I'm good okay yeah I thought memorize I
46:54 saw you took a a deep breath there so I don't know if that's
46:56 a it's an anxiety thing or you were about to speak I checked chat
46:59 and the it all the rocket almost landed but then exploded so a yeah
47:06 which was their goal to land so really close it's brand new tech you
47:10 guys that isn't a SpaceX rocket that's
47:11 brand new tech and that's something completely
47:14 different and it's in its early stages so they're expecting that kind of stuff
47:17 right yeah that's okay they're learning from it they did that with space ACC
47:21 question yep go ahead uh is that you from Iceland here yeah yeah uh
47:27 uh Kell raving uh so while climbing uh do you always go you know
47:34 maximum power y that's what we mean we so we're going to we're going
47:39 to adjust the airplane first here let's
47:41 use this model here we're going to adjust
47:43 the airplane first we're going to set it for the right attitude so
47:46 that the air speed is what we want and then you give it full power
47:49 to stay that way if you don't give it full power then you can't
47:53 climb I mean you're going to pull the plane up and it'll just keep
47:55 slowing down so we got to so we don't have rocket engines here we
47:59 can't just point a plane and go that way we can't Point straight up
48:02 and go that way so there are recommended speeds to keep the air flow
48:06 over the engine cooling the engine and those air speeds are in the PO
48:10 so it says in there for a cruise climb normal climb then they would
48:14 recommend say 60 to 70 knots so we'll just do the attitude to 60
48:19 or 70 knots and then give it full power to keep it that way
48:22 and let it go for however long we want right and that's the key
48:26 right it is full power and that's what we're saying in step two here
48:29 adjust the attitude and then add full power and then trim it okay okay
48:34 you see that the three of those right here so so so you protect
48:39 the engine by not you know climbing too fast that's why you can do
48:43 full power that how how you should understand it maintain fast yeah if you
48:48 point it up too high yeah point point it up too high it's probably
48:52 yeah you point it up too high you don't have enough power
48:54 in this engine to pull you up so it'll just keep slowing down slowing down
48:58 and you just mush into the air and you just fall out of the sky
49:01 so so we don't have a rocket engine we can't just point it straight
49:04 up and go right so we have there are recommended speeds to keep
49:08 the air flow the engine cool enough and we still get enough height there are
49:12 two main climb speeds and I'm going to ask about it later on when
49:15 we do our briefing all right I don't know if you have that information
49:18 nearby Jane or if you remember it I do yeah there's a there's
49:21 a VY and a VX do you happen to know what those are Jane
49:25 uh VX is angle of climb right so I think best angle is 55
49:30 knots look at you go yeah absolutely and then VY is rate of climb
49:35 and the best uh which is 67 knots 67 in this plane so that's
49:39 right in the PO you guys and that's what you would take in ground
49:42 school and you saw the picture of her paying attention in ground school so
49:46 you saw it I saw it we we're witness attention so that's that's very impressive
49:51 so now when you get to the desired altitude right here then you do
49:55 the same thing it's AP you I'll just remember that and then you trim
49:58 it right so let me just say this once you're level you'll want
50:02 to reduce power most times you're cruising between 70 80% of full and that way
50:08 you're preserving gas and you're the engine's
50:10 running cooler and we don't usually
50:11 run full all the way to where we're going although in the Sim some
50:15 people seem to be doing that right but normal flight is is seven you
50:18 know some something lower so if if full power is 2400 RPM we'll do
50:23 2100 2200 in cruise and that's that'll be stuff so that's what we
50:28 do there and then the second skill is when you're descending and we use
50:31 a different one for that so when you're descending we're going to do Pat
50:36 if you just point the nose down and start descending you are going to speed
50:40 up so fast you'll you'll do what's called Never exceed speed and you'll get
50:44 down real fast all right but you could damage the plane damage the engine
50:47 damage yourself so we reduce power first always right we reduce power the nose
50:52 will naturally drop you'll see this in our demonstration then we adjust the ad
50:56 attitude I found in this plane we don't really have to adjust the attitude
51:00 we just pull some power the nose drops we're good it's actually very easy
51:04 to fly this plane but we adjust the attitude and then we trim
51:07 for handsfree now when we're going to level up let's say we're coming from 3,000
51:11 to 2,000 we want to stay at 2,000 now we got to level
51:15 the plane and so when we level the plane let me just come over
51:19 here we don't need to see that yet we we'll do that later when
51:21 we level the plane back here then we're going to do the same thing
51:25 our attitude trim right so we'll go back to normal Power we'll try to trim
51:29 it for level and we'll do our level cool so those are the two
51:33 main skills we're going to be learning that's it and and and that's all
51:36 we need to worry about so let's go flying everybody we got our checklist
51:39 we know where we're going we know what the plane can do now we
51:43 just got to get going once we get into the practice area there's one
51:47 thing we got to do and that is the Hazel check the Hazel check
51:52 is always done when you're doing light training because you're in an area where
51:57 yep there's a farmer field yeah you got enough altitude so so you can
52:01 play up and down in the altitude area you got to look at security
52:05 to see if anything in the airplane is loose while you're going up
52:07 and down and left and right and then you got to do a quick check
52:10 of the engine and then a lookout to see that there's no other planes
52:13 while you're messing around trying to do
52:15 all these Maneuvers always do hazel check
52:18 all right and we're always keeping a continuous look out for traffic okay so
52:22 that's the plan you guys so let's go flying so while we head out
52:25 to the airplane Direct all your questions please in the chat to the five
52:28 fellow students on live mics and they'll
52:30 help us with the questions afterwards because
52:33 we're we're going to concentrate more luck chat yeah I want everybody to wish
52:36 Jan luck here she goes on her first real starter lesson we'll be using
52:42 your control as Jane mentioned here and um and it's this free download
52:45 that we're going to have that we're going to use to pass control back
52:48 and forth let me see is that the yeah that's it there's a link
52:52 to the mod if you guys are curious to for using it in the future
52:56 for yourself yeah it's a fun thing to use I'll not panic yeah
53:02 and and unfortunately we can't use because I'm talking to a live ATC we can't
53:06 use her Panic low U Panic um call sign we have to use
53:11 a real call sign I mean it's it's pilot Edge and they don't want fake
53:14 names or anything so you know and so we're going to use the uh
53:17 the N 68771 we we'll be okay with that 68 niner niner I'll try
53:22 not to asthma yeah I mean you can call the tower and say it's
53:26 panic and they'll say I'm I'm sorry
53:27 you're panicking but what's your call [Laughter]
53:30 sign all right so no it's Panic yeah it's Panic don't do that all
53:37 right so thanks for waiting you guys but that was a lot of information
53:39 but that's typically what we have to do before we get flying right so
53:44 here we are at our airplane one of the first things that we would
53:47 have to do is make sure that the flaps are all down but because
53:51 we did the walk around but right now Jane and I are now looking
53:55 at the plane what's the first thing on the checklist all right hold
53:59 on pulling it up we want to start the planing prart so pre-art is absolutely
54:05 right so so we have the yeah go ahead is so I mean you
54:10 can read it off and I'll just do there's two ways you can do
54:13 this right student can read it instructor can say check or not check right
54:17 or the instructor can read it and the student can check right so we'll
54:21 first time around I'll read it to you so pre-art we have external
54:26 check right so we did the external check you saw pictures of her doing
54:30 that she good we're now in now we're now in the airplane and we
54:33 continue on so what's the next one flight controls free right so now I'm going
54:39 to show that to you but let me just say this someone in chat
54:42 will probably say why can't we just
54:44 use the checklist that's built into the simulator
54:46 right and actually one of one of you asked this you one
54:49 of the six students here with me today asked this question already and that is
54:53 a a good start the checklist in the simulator does have some checklist
54:58 items and they actually show you where they are in the plane which is
55:01 a good thing so that's a starter way to learn checklists what Jane and I
55:05 are using is a real checklist that I've made well I say real checklist
55:08 that I've made for the simulator some things aren't there because we can't do
55:12 them in the simulator but it's it's close to the real thing and all
55:16 of these boring things here are what you would do in a real plane
55:19 all right so the external check now or the flight controls free now what
55:23 we do is we actually we're inside the plane and we actually we look
55:26 outside the plane and we move the surfaces oops let's see if I can
55:30 hold that view I can't here here let me do it this way you
55:33 guys while I turn my Yol it ends up changing my view but so
55:36 we look outside the airplane and then as I turn the Yol back
55:41 and forth you can see the aerons moving out there all right yeah and then
55:46 as I do the same thing we we won't do this real slow forever
55:49 we'll do a quick check next time but as we look out this side
55:53 same thing now and you can see I'm going to go left and then
55:56 I'm going to go right right so the aerons are working in the right
56:00 direction I put my yok left it goes up I put my yolk right
56:05 it goes down and in the plane we actually go like this we go
56:08 one to the left and we put our thumb up and that means it
56:12 should go up believe it or not we're checking to make sure that they're
56:15 connected properly once you're flying you don't want to there's no way to fix
56:18 that so it's one two we look over to the right 3 4 now
56:24 we look back I'm just saving you all the views here but now we
56:27 look to the back of the plane okay and we do five six so
56:33 I'm pulling the yolk in and out five okay six and then I'm using
56:38 my Rudder pedals to go 78 you see the rudder at the back moving
56:43 so it's it's a it's a eighto check of all the surfaces you'll see
56:47 this when you see a plane heading toward a Runway you'll see everything start
56:51 flapping away and you're just wondering wow look at that it's like a bird
56:54 getting ready to go and it's it's really the same thing right they're just
56:57 checking everything we're always checking stuff while
56:59 we're still safely on the ground all
57:01 right that's what we're doing there so light controls are free we're good Jane
57:06 perfect uh trim check set for takeoff yeah the trim set for takeoff so
57:11 it's right down here it's right there and for those of you who don't
57:15 have a trim wheel you can use your mouse wheel see I'm using
57:18 my mouse wheel you can't see I'm using my mouse wheel but I'm just
57:22 using my mouse wheel if I can zoom in on that you can um
57:26 if you want you can get rid of that Yol yeah just so you
57:28 can see what's happening so here it is I've hovered over it now I'm
57:31 using my mouse wheel if you don't have a trim wheel and you can
57:34 see this indicator for this airplane it should be underneath where off is it
57:39 shouldn't be up here I've tried up here where I thought it would be
57:41 and in this plane it's actually down here Edward you just click on it
57:44 if you want to get rid of the view of the ool yeah I
57:47 just went and clicked on it and you can click on it to bring
57:49 it back right yeah now in the in the real plane you just move
57:52 it over like that okay and then we just go like that I didn't
57:55 know I could do that but for now for for the sake of learning
57:59 we'll leave it off cuz we want to look at switches and stuff too
58:01 right okay so we've trim set for takeoff is good avionics in this plane is
58:07 the next one and I just want to mention there's no avionics switch
58:10 but in the 172 there's an avionic switch and in most airplanes there are okay
58:14 so we all skip AV so they're off avionics is off we're good what's
58:17 the next one fuel selector on fuel selector so now down here on the floor
58:23 there's the fuel selector if you start the plane right now it won't
58:26 stay running cuz there's no the fuel isn't on so we're going to click
58:29 that it's on simple as that and when we're finished we're going to turn
58:33 it back off again all right and this is where we record the Hobs
58:37 time aha the Hobs time let me jump over like that it's
58:42 on that little thing there and there's the Hobs time so Jane can you write
58:45 that down 6.3 yeah there's only six hours on this plane 6.3 I've taken
58:52 it out for a spin I made sure the practice area so we've got
58:54 a few hours now new airplane I never flown a brand new one they're
58:59 all old rentals is this does that uh have you really flown um this 152
59:06 in the SIM for six hours is that accurate yeah that's that's how many
59:10 hours I've flown this one the practice yeah I've also done our Cross Country
59:14 flight we'll do once you get to cross country here we'll be going down
59:17 to boing field yeah so I've done a few things in here but yeah
59:19 just practicing testing all that stuff yeah
59:23 that's realistic the planes I rent all
59:25 these digits are full all right so what's the next one all right next
59:31 uh we're going to go to engine start all right let's go yeah we're
59:35 mov I know you guys those of you who are feeling impatient and you
59:38 might even be sitting there going are we are we going yet this is
59:40 normal and if for a new student you take your time if you rush
59:44 through it the student will go I don't know what happened it was so
59:46 fast right you got to take your time everybody and then this will get
59:49 faster SL for me you'll see Jane zooming through this next time and you'll
59:53 know why right cuz she's getting better out time I know zooming okay so
59:57 first one is carb heat cold in so carb heat right here do you
1:00:01 see it now when you say pull it out that's on that's that's hot
1:00:06 we're putting carb heat cold just so you guys know when it's cold it
1:00:11 actually goes through carp heat goes through a filter when it's cold and it
1:00:15 it can stay cold it goes through a filter but when you pull it
1:00:18 out there's no filter on the air and we typically use it when we're
1:00:21 up in the air anyway so we we leave it cold uh awesome throttle
1:00:27 that's for carburetor that's what that means
1:00:28 you guys carburetor yeah throttle full open
1:00:31 and then in 1/4 inch now the throttle right here so what that means
1:00:36 is the throttle all the way open and then in a quarter inch like
1:00:39 that and that gives it just enough gas to get started right and then
1:00:43 we'll adjust it for a th while we're over here probably the next thing
1:00:49 okie dokie yep so we're going to mixture Rich the mixture Rich all
1:00:53 the way in all right all the way in and that's the we fly most
1:00:56 times in this plane all the way up to around 5,000 ft in the 172
1:01:01 I think it's around 3,000 ft when we start trimming that gotta we'll
1:01:05 learn more about that as we go along but we're just following checklist
1:01:08 for now you guys yes next breaks on now the brakes on we can use
1:01:13 the parking brake here but a lot of us will use the tow brakes
1:01:16 but there's the parking brake right there and just do the thing like that there
1:01:20 it is all the way on there's off and there's on right so
1:01:25 the brake is on we're good we don't have to use the tow brakes okay
1:01:30 next we got call oh prop clear okay so I'm actually surprised there's no
1:01:36 Prime in there I'm so I really like your prop clear that was good
1:01:40 thank you but uh I'm surprised yeah prime the pump three times okay see
1:01:46 that's why you have an instructor in the plane so Master we haven't done
1:01:49 the master switch on oh I see the prop clears before we turn
1:01:52 on the switch so you're in the you're right so you said prop clear breakes
1:01:56 are on you're doing it right now it's a master switch I was
1:01:59 surprised yeah that's good she's got that down you guys my dog didn't move
1:02:04 or duck so so we turned on power I can actually hear I don't
1:02:08 know if you can hear on chat but we we turned on Power and I
1:02:11 can hear the the instrument starting to spool up see this one this little
1:02:16 red tag here that says that this isn't ready yet but it's spinning up
1:02:20 this one's also a gyro instrument and it's spinning you turn the MTR master
1:02:23 switch on something yeah I left the alt off for now right but I
1:02:28 turned the master switch on and you can see these things will eventually
1:02:31 lose their little red tag they're spinning up right now these are two gyro
1:02:34 instruments right I see and maybe even yeah our radios are on now too
1:02:38 so we'll have to set those we're good all right so what's next can
1:02:42 I add something yes you prop clear before Master on just in case engine
1:02:51 kicks over when you turn power on oh I see yeah see there there's
1:02:55 a good reason that's why you do prop clear before adding power just
1:03:02 a little and that's actually very interesting I'm glad you said that you know uh
1:03:06 um all these years of flying I say prop clear just before I actually
1:03:09 turn the ignition switch you know it's like prop clear and then I don't
1:03:13 even give people time to run so I should be I should be thinking
1:03:16 about what you said that's actually very good Okay so we've got the master
1:03:21 switch on now what okay it says Prime Pump three times so this airplane
1:03:26 it's a manual prime one okay two three all right and then in normal
1:03:32 summer that would be fine in the winter time I've had to actually prime
1:03:36 it six times and this pushes fuel into the Pistons ready to go that's
1:03:40 what it does okay and then it's in and locked right and then
1:03:43 next all right yep ignition switch start oh boy here we go this is
1:03:47 the ignition switch right here I have it on my honeycomb yolk so I'll
1:03:50 just do it here clear if worked we should have a propeller started up
1:03:57 on my screen yay nice it's on your screen too that's perfect that's so
1:04:01 cool and the first thing it says probably in there Jane is that we
1:04:04 have to check that it's at oops check that it's at a th000 and look
1:04:09 it happens to be at a th000 I just happen to know the right
1:04:11 position on my throttle it was just a flute th okay so and they
1:04:15 wanted at a th000 CU that's a good that's a good RPM to warm
1:04:18 up the engine and get and keep the generator with enough power and so
1:04:22 you know that's a good one and that most like the 172 is
1:04:25 the same you start it up and then you adjust for a th000 right
1:04:28 very cool we can move on then yeah what's next woo after engine starts
1:04:33 let's go all right idle a thousand we just checked that uh time to check
1:04:39 uh oil pressure make sure it's green y so here's the oil pressure here
1:04:43 in the green okay it's in the GRE it's starting in the green it's
1:04:46 just starting to get warmer or starting to get pressure as you add more
1:04:49 RPMs it'll go further in the green the temperature is still a bit cold
1:04:53 but it's still in the green cool avionics on yeah so in this case
1:04:58 the avionics just came on when we started it because there a switch
1:05:01 right here right on the radios these are the old radios and this is
1:05:04 in a lot of planes that I rent just like this yeah right so
1:05:07 that's what they look like all right so that's what I switch if I they're
1:05:10 not on okay yeah uh flashing beacon on so the flashing Beacon's down here
1:05:16 one of these switches now we're starting to look at that the beacon here
1:05:19 is already on it's in the on position so we're good with that cool
1:05:24 nav lights on now we don't have to have nav lights on we don't
1:05:29 have to have the strobe on but we can put it on anyway when
1:05:32 I'm flying I like people to see the airplane it's all about being seen
1:05:35 in the air right so I put them on anyway yeah so I would
1:05:38 check those in in my walk around just because I use them all the time
1:05:42 gotcha flaps retract okay so remember we
1:05:45 were inspecting outside we had the flaps
1:05:48 down now we retract the flaps up it goes and you do a check
1:05:53 out the window to make sure I can do just go back to forward
1:05:56 view we do a quick check so take off there's the flaps right there
1:06:00 sna 152 if I put the flaps down just a minute Jane if I
1:06:04 put the flaps down you guys there's what it looks like outside the window
1:06:06 see up come the flaps There's Scary some planes the bigger planes you actually
1:06:14 use flaps for takeoff but we don't hear in the 152 or the 172
1:06:19 cool even though the Sim wants the 172 to have some flaps we don't
1:06:22 need them okay only for landing all right so what was next next uh
1:06:28 Adis we get to talk on the radio this is great so this time
1:06:36 we're just going to listen on the radio right let me just uh do
1:06:41 a quick connect here to make sure I'm connected to ATC and then we're
1:06:45 going to what frequency would we use for this Jane where would we find
1:06:48 the frequency for Adis uh that'll be on the map hold on try
1:06:55 to do I have it out one second oh here it is oh adus 128.
1:07:09 65 is that correct I found it on the airport diagram
1:07:14 Ah that's where it is okay so all right so we're going
1:07:17 to use this lower one for Adis because we're going to leave
1:07:19 it on there for later right so tell tell me the number
1:07:22 again one sure one 128 okay 2 65 all right so I'm
1:07:30 just going to come back on this one oops hard to do
1:07:40 in the in the Sim you got to use your mouse
1:07:42 right oops and I should have stopped yeah that's the one there
1:07:44 we go annoying part and then now for those who haven't
1:07:47 used the radio before you set it here it's called the standby
1:07:50 stby that's your standby frequency and now I want that to be
1:07:53 my live frequency I'm going to move it over now this is
1:07:56 the active area now to hear it because it's Comm 2 it's
1:08:00 the second radio I'm going to come up here and say I
1:08:02 want to hear Comm to and the reason I'm doing this is
1:08:05 I'm going to leave it here and I'm also going to leave
1:08:07 the guard frequency here for later right now we don't care
1:08:11 too much about it but I'm explaining it for those who are
1:08:13 wondering why am I using this one and not that one right
1:08:16 during Communications with ground and Tower I'll use this one and I'll
1:08:20 leave this one for guard frequency and Adis all right so now
1:08:24 I want to listen to that and and um Jane is going
1:08:27 to get ready with a pencil and her notepad and she's going
1:08:30 to write down everything she hears right going to tell us everything
1:08:33 we need to know I'll try to here I got my notepad
1:08:36 nearby here too this is my lap pad great and this is
1:08:40 important you guys cuz because we have to tell the tower
1:08:42 that we have this information all right and they'll tell us the active
1:08:45 Runway and all that let's have a listen scattered ceiling 2000
1:08:50 sorry what was that Jane before I put it on again you
1:08:53 were starting to say something sorry sorry let's yeah I think it's
1:08:57 going to pop up on my I'm just curious about the mod
1:09:01 so can you hear this coming through on your 1 six
1:09:04 right 34 left 34 right ILS Runway six right approach and USR
1:09:11 departures expect Runway one six right VFR departures expect Runway 34 right
1:09:17 R 34 left read back all Runway assignments and hold short instructions
1:09:24 advise on initial contact you have that'll I'll just take it
1:09:27 off for a minute that'll loop around again and again this is
1:09:29 a recording they do every hour right so I'll turn it back
1:09:32 on again but now I see my desktop audio had to be
1:09:35 turned up so I've done that you should all be able
1:09:38 to hear it on the stream now too all right so I'm
1:09:40 going to turn it back on again and tell me Jane if
1:09:43 you can hear it temperature 9R 2.6 altimer 30 32 arriving Runway
1:09:51 is 3 4 left 3 4 right 1 6 right departing
1:09:56 runways 16 right 34 left 34 right ILS Runway 16 right approach
1:10:03 and USR departures expect Runway 1 6 right VFR departures expect Runway
1:10:09 34 right o r 34 left read back all Runway assignments and hold
1:10:15 short instructions advise on initial contact you have information Mike and then
1:10:22 it repeat Mish County Airport 8 just information mik 2253 Zulu windcom
1:10:30 visibility 1 700 scattered ceiling 2,800 broken temperature N9 or and I
1:10:40 was switched away from that frequency just so that we don't have
1:10:42 to keep hearing it so do you think we got enough information
1:10:45 what do you think is our active Runway was it I heard
1:10:49 a couple things hold on a second um is it 34 right
1:10:54 absolutely yep 34 right way to go cool and and this is
1:10:59 did I hear her say 34 right or 34 left or did
1:11:02 I was that did she say something else there was a 34
1:11:05 left in there yeah so so that makes sense because oh
1:11:09 who were picking up so 34 left 34 right they're both facing
1:11:13 the same direction one's the longer one one's the shorter one
1:11:16 all right they're both and if you look at your Airport diagram
1:11:20 they're both facing the same direction so that makes both of them
1:11:23 active which one do you want we don't want the big right
1:11:26 right and so that's and if the wind were going the opposite
1:11:29 direction then we would get 16 left or 16 right right so
1:11:32 that's what that's for okay so now we know everything and we
1:11:36 also know information mic we need that when we call the tower
1:11:40 we got to tell them we have information Mike okay so
1:11:43 now we need to know another frequency Jane if you could look
1:11:46 that up now what is the frequency for ground uh let me
1:11:49 see now ground in the tower yeah what's the frequency for ground
1:11:53 first and I'll put that in here here sure it's 21.8
1:12:02 how do I get over on this side of it one two
1:12:04 one I can't get to the bigger one I see two numbers
1:12:08 or two frequencies when it says Ground Control why are there two
1:12:12 okay so there could be two because um no I'm thinking
1:12:17 Tower there's two towers for two runways sometimes but uh there's two
1:12:21 for ground so what's the first one one two one .8 yeah
1:12:26 that's it that looks familiar but 1 to 1.8 and then there's
1:12:30 a second oh the second one's a probably 200 something right
1:12:33 it's in the yeah it's 33 9.8 just curious what that one
1:12:37 is Mama Mia this is like this is why I have Hardware
1:12:40 in the cockpit you guys this is crazy look at this I'm
1:12:42 going to go over here and hope that I got the little
1:12:44 guy right the little knob in the middle but I'm not
1:12:46 getting it that's just crazy this is like let's take forever
1:12:49 on this Howard you come on you can do it no I want
1:12:55 to change that it's like okay let's go like this View
1:13:00 and then we'll go this View and then Howard can finally do it
1:13:03 all right like that okay this little one in the middle is
1:13:07 all I'm after there we go and what was in there 65
1:13:12 uh one to 1.88 sorry for the delay you guys this is
1:13:18 a this is a pain in the Sim it's just the nature
1:13:20 of it right using a mouse to try and turn a wheel
1:13:23 right8 if I pay P attention here you said8 there we go
1:13:29 so there's our ground frequency I'm going to move that over now
1:13:32 I want to preload my tower because I don't want to sit
1:13:35 out there by the runway trying to Fumble around with these dials
1:13:37 sure so what would be the tower for third 34 right
1:13:41 34 right there'll be the same tower for 34 right and left
1:13:45 right yes or is it the same for no 34 right no
1:13:51 they're different so it says Runway 16 l through 34 R
1:13:55 and then there's two frequencies does that mean I take or the last
1:13:59 one of them will be 4 34 right right they're going
1:14:02 to separate when you have parallel traffic coming in we got one
1:14:06 big Heavies coming in we got us coming in they're going
1:14:08 to give us two different Towers so that we don't get confused who's
1:14:11 cleared the land right so okay this is by Design you
1:14:14 guys we picked this airport by Design so that we can pay
1:14:17 attention to the proper frequencies right I think it's 12.2 correct me
1:14:22 if I'm wrong other students 12 0.2 yeah anybody want to jump
1:14:27 in if she what do you guys think take let's take
1:14:30 a poll for six of you what do you think2 okay was
1:14:39 that you Rough Rider what did you say Where's that other one
1:14:45 there for the WF frequency it's one 12.2 yep and that's for what
1:14:50 that's for the tower okay cool y 34 right beautiful and you
1:14:57 know they'll correct us when we say we want clearance for 34
1:15:00 right they'll go uh can you switch frequencies it's like oops
1:15:04 you don't say oops while you're on the mic you say oops
1:15:07 okay so right now we have ground ready we already did
1:15:10 Adis we're going to use that when we come back um here
1:15:13 I want to put in the the guard frequency does anybody know
1:15:15 what the guard or emergency frequency is because we're going to check
1:15:18 that before we turn off the engine later but we can plug
1:15:21 it in now while we're sitting on the ground H that's be
1:15:25 a good question maybe we can leave that for someone to do
1:15:27 some research find out what is that frequency and not every pilot
1:15:30 does that but you're supposed to check your guard frequency
1:15:33 at any time you land hard you should check and see if
1:15:36 your elt has been activated anyway we're not going to worry about
1:15:40 did they give us did they give us a a barometric pressure
1:15:43 by the way you remember in the I wrote that down yeah
1:15:46 okay so did you write down how what it was three something
1:15:49 3032 3032 so now you'd come down to this dial and move
1:15:53 it around now we happen to know at the airport it's 608
1:15:57 so it's right there I can't even read that small thing right
1:16:00 there but I would zoom in more okay what exactly is it
1:16:03 you see it you guys 299 so it's 30 something
1:16:06 and and and you you just check it against the airport elevation the airport
1:16:10 elevation 608 so we're good oops as I'm using my mouse wheel
1:16:13 look it's turning oh that's funny I was doing oh that was
1:16:20 you Jane's in there turning it you guys you see
1:16:23 this the the controls thing are working pretty cool I didn't even give
1:16:27 you control that's funny that worked is it did I really
1:16:31 get that right 3032 that seems 3032 no that seems about right
1:16:35 yeah it depends on the day that's what it is so right
1:16:39 now I see it's at like 29.9 is that what you're seeing
1:16:46 um zo in on it where where this tick mark is so
1:16:48 29.9 is now it's now at 30 I mean this is 30
1:16:53 that's a good point you know let's go in don't guess 30.0
1:16:58 what is it 3 30.2 30 uh 3032 yeah 3032 wow because
1:17:07 the elevation is 6 I hear it wrong maybe should the elevation
1:17:10 68 so you know you guys sorry for the delay but look
1:17:13 this is this is always important stuff so we should check
1:17:15 again let's just have a quick listen assignments and hold short instructions
1:17:20 advise on initial contact you have information Mike Mike smish County Airport
1:17:29 8 information mik 2253 Zulu windcom visibility 1 700 scattered ceiling 2,800
1:17:40 broken temperature 9 R 2.6 altimeter 3032 arriving Runway 34 left three
1:17:50 3032 all right seems like a l does seem yeah well barometric
1:17:57 pressure can be anything right depends yeah Center maintain 10,000 the span
1:18:04 alimer done 3022 3022 that's not for us I mean someone
1:18:13 else was talking to them we're 3 32 that doesn't seem right
1:18:19 we're at 608 and yet this is going to show a th
1:18:24 wow yeah well put it in there anyway okie dokie yeah
1:18:28 that's uh that doesn't look right anyway so we'll find out how
1:18:32 we go along so right now what you were hearing was ground
1:18:35 somebody was talking to ground it wasn't us so that's what you
1:18:38 were hearing you guys because we're already tuned to ground so
1:18:41 now that we know everything now we have to talk to ground
1:18:44 and get out of here all right we got to get
1:18:46 over to 34 right if you look at your if you look
1:18:49 at your Airport diagram you'll notice 34 right is down south and then
1:18:54 turn turn around right so we're heading down that way and we're
1:18:57 starting from the East ramp all right so we're going to say
1:19:00 something like this we're going to say pain ground cesna 67 Niner
1:19:04 ner1 East ramp taxi 34 right with Mike we're saying with Mike
1:19:11 and then what are our intentions for VFR departure to the east
1:19:14 right so we're going to say all of that on the radio
1:19:17 right and then we're going to hear what they have to say
1:19:19 back right and they're probably going to clear us and we're
1:19:21 going to go straight ahead right across the grass no we're going
1:19:24 to go over to the TX way uh CD has a question
1:19:28 does the altimer setting in msfs match whatever system pilot Edge is
1:19:33 using that is it's a really good point and that's what I'm
1:19:36 questioning what's happening here because we know the elevation of this airport
1:19:39 is not 1,000 and so they're giving us they're giving us
1:19:43 an altimeter setting that doesn't seem to be right so should we
1:19:48 put it back to what we know or should we go
1:19:49 with I I if I were in a real plane right now I'd
1:19:53 put it back to 608 cuz it say right on here
1:19:55 the elevation 608 so I'm really glad you're mentioning that CDL cuz that's
1:19:58 that's important and then we will use that for reference all
1:20:04 the way along because if we are in the circuit we got
1:20:07 to be at600 okay right a th000 above I would leave it
1:20:11 there it's actually a very good point I'm going to talk to Pilot
1:20:13 Edge about that but if they're going to keep changing it
1:20:16 like that so we'll see what they have to say about it
1:20:18 all right so we're ready to call ground and we're going
1:20:20 for 34 right is what we're happening so here we go I'm going
1:20:24 to push the mic switch or we're live on the mic
1:20:27 nobody else is on the channel right now so here we go
1:20:29 good luck good luck pain ground cesna 67991 East ramp taxi 34
1:20:36 right with mic for VFR departure to the East and we'll just
1:20:45 wait they're writing it all down 791 pain ground 34 right taxi
1:20:52 Fox taxi V foxr 679991 so they gave us a taxi Fox
1:20:59 drot so they we know where the runway is so now we
1:21:02 just want to go back to this whoops back to this View
1:21:05 and we want a taxi now right now we're out of pavement
1:21:08 if you look down here we got no pavement so we
1:21:12 could this plane could go across the grass but you don't normally
1:21:15 do that so I'm going to just do a hard right going
1:21:18 to just look right nobody there a hard right I'm going
1:21:23 to let go of the emergency break right here and watch out there
1:21:32 fella and then now I'm going to just look right look left
1:21:38 we're good and we got to go down this waym and we're
1:21:42 finally moving but that's important you guys to do all
1:21:44 of those things awesome and 34 right is down here now you could
1:21:48 do a quick check while you're taxiing but this isn't a taxi
1:21:51 lesson yet we're just first first flight is a familiarity for Jane
1:21:56 so she's just watching what's happening but as you're taxiing Once you
1:21:59 turn left or right you start looking at your instruments and you
1:22:02 make sure that they're doing everything while you're on the ground
1:22:05 all right so you'd be looking here when you start turning I'll
1:22:08 do a little bit of a turn to the left little bit
1:22:10 of turn to the right you're looking at your instruments to see
1:22:12 that they're actually working right yeah and then you know this is
1:22:16 obviously going to be steady oops this is obviously going to be
1:22:19 steady and uh so these are the things you look
1:22:21 for and if you're going too fast obviously your air speed will start
1:22:24 climbing up as we approach we want to make sure we don't
1:22:29 go over the whole Short Line and we want to make sure
1:22:31 we're still looking at the traffic so this is the runway right
1:22:35 here and traffic will be coming in like this and this is
1:22:39 where you sit you don't turn around with your side
1:22:41 to the traffic because then you can't see what's coming if something's coming
1:22:45 in we're not going to ask for clearance we're going to wait
1:22:47 because they're going to tell us to wait nothing's coming in right
1:22:50 now right and nothing's on the runway we can now switch
1:22:53 to the tower so so right here we already have the tower ready
1:22:56 we're going to switch to Tower and now the terminology is different
1:22:59 than what I learned back in the '90s I don't say ready
1:23:01 for takeoff because that sounds like cleared for takeoff or did somebody
1:23:05 say takeoff so they actually avoid that word now only the tower
1:23:09 will tell us approach 1 2 3.75 okay I haven't switched
1:23:13 over yet let's switch over now we're on the tower frequency right
1:23:18 so now uh so what I'm going to say now we're going
1:23:20 to be taking off all right so the the way we'll say
1:23:23 it is ready for departure or you could say holding short because
1:23:27 that's what we're supposed to do right so I'm going to say
1:23:29 pain Towers cesna 67 ner Niner one ready for departure 34
1:23:34 right simple as that okay and they see us anyway but we're
1:23:38 just making sure that we finished everything we're going to do inside
1:23:41 before we take off now there are some things that we have
1:23:44 to do I know it's like aren't we aren't we going now
1:23:48 so there's a takeoff checklist on the back of your checklist card
1:23:51 oh hey forter so I think you're for some reason Reon
1:23:54 your mic is like doubled is there another mic input coming
1:23:58 into this oh because I used the mic to talk to them
1:24:01 yeah oh true all right let's put that down can you hear me
1:24:04 on this mic let's try that it wasn't too bad yeah
1:24:08 it's because I have a headset mic that I need to talk
1:24:11 to them and I have a a studio mic that's probably what
1:24:14 it is sorry guys so is it better now I lost you
1:24:18 you lost me okay back on again 72 Charlie spok approach spok
1:24:24 Al 3022 thank you for Quebec and uh we're offering the is
1:24:29 21 or the ARF 26 do you have a preference so uh
1:24:35 the last thing we have to do is get clearance but we
1:24:37 have to record the time off all right so in the around
1:24:40 your turn left heading 04 Z back ILS 21 Final Approach
1:24:44 course to to maintain 5,000 I'm just going to move it over
1:24:47 to ground here so can you guys hear me okay uh right
1:24:50 now we have to note the time we could use this clock
1:24:53 or we could use real time whatever it is right now
1:24:56 so you notice we all we already did the Hobs that was
1:24:59 before we started the engine now we're looking at this one we
1:25:01 have to write this one down because the this is the actual
1:25:05 time off this is wheels off maintain 5,000 okay and this is
1:25:09 what we're going to put into our log books Jane that'll be
1:25:12 your first log entry right there this will be the air time
1:25:15 that we get today right so that shows like 143 and we
1:25:20 that that'll be our takeoff time we also set our transponder
1:25:24 we're we're going to set that from from standby to alt that's
1:25:27 in our checklist and now we're ready to roll and we're 1,200
1:25:31 on the transponder so we've got the right frequency we've got
1:25:34 the transponder set and we've got the time noted and we now talk
1:25:38 to the tower a good memory a is time transponder talk that's
1:25:44 the three the three T's in some planes it's actually five T's
1:25:48 but here we're doing a 3T and we're ready to go
1:25:50 now I'm just going to call the tower so what am I
1:25:53 going to say I'm ready for depart all right so here we
1:25:57 go I think I'm muted on my on my headset mic so
1:26:01 it doesn't double talk on the stream pain Tower cesna 67991 ready
1:26:07 for departure 34 right 67991 P Tower just want verif for you
1:26:12 are eastbound departure is that correct that's affirmative 67991 thank you right
1:26:18 turn to the east approved Runway 34 right clear for takeoff wind
1:26:22 col clear for take off 67 991 so what we're doing
1:26:28 we it once they're cleared to take off it's time to go
1:26:32 and Jane here we go yeah I want you to notice
1:26:36 the air speed the most while we take off all right okie dokie
1:26:40 our air speed indicator over on the left that's important when we're
1:26:42 taking off because we have to set the proper takeoff air speed
1:26:47 so the rotate speed for an airplane is the time when you
1:26:51 start offering your wings to the wind this is a good expression
1:26:54 isn't it where you're going to rotate your airplane here we are
1:26:57 on the runway ready to go everything's in the green we push
1:27:03 full power everything's in I'm still holding the throttle in case I
1:27:07 have to cut it I'm trying to line up with the runway
1:27:11 and we're just I'm using my feet to steer right now
1:27:14 as we get around 50 knots or so you'll see the nose
1:27:17 automatically lift it's already starting it's lifting by itself and right around
1:27:22 now I haven't even pulled back on the Yol 60 knots it
1:27:25 lifted so that's around 60 all by itself I didn't even
1:27:28 pull and then now it's settling in around 65 I think we
1:27:32 want I think we actually want 67 I think right 67 yeah
1:27:39 and I just touched my trim wheel and it sort of jumped
1:27:41 so that's what that was 67 now positive rate positive rate you're
1:27:46 right that's right so typically you'd want to look out the plane
1:27:50 you don't want to be focused on the on the uh instruments
1:27:53 and we're going to be heading over that way to the practice
1:27:57 area we' still got our our air speed is good this is
1:28:00 a good view in the Sim because you can still see
1:28:02 your air speed over here is the big Boeing factory right there
1:28:06 look at the size of that thing woohoo yeah yeah that's where
1:28:09 we are and we're going to use that as a marker
1:28:12 to come back if we came into 16 left we would use
1:28:15 that as a find the factory turn left right but that's not
1:28:18 what we're doing right now we'll be coming into 34 right so
1:28:21 we're at least 500 ft above the ground we're going to turn
1:28:24 right East departure was approved we're going east and we'll be
1:28:28 able to tell by our indicator right here right our heading indicator
1:28:33 which was set against the compass earlier we're in the air chat
1:28:37 we did it we're in the air it finally got us
1:28:40 there now while we're here always be on the lookout Jane so
1:28:43 the first lesson even before we get to the practice area is
1:28:46 is there any traffic coming at us you look out your window I
1:28:50 look out mine look around and we're just flying right and later
1:28:55 on is if we're going to climb we're going to look
1:28:57 up if we're going to descend we're going to look down
1:28:59 and we're going to always clear the area right I think we're all
1:29:02 by ourself I think so too there's Everett over there you
1:29:06 guys that's the the town of Everett really what this Airfield was
1:29:09 named after and that Lake over there is an important Landmark Jane
1:29:15 that we'll look at later when we come into land on 34
1:29:18 right so that's we'll be looking for certain landmarks VFR as we
1:29:22 fly all right all right so now the very first thing
1:29:26 I'm going to show you even before we get there I'm going
1:29:27 to level off and set it for level flight we'll get right
1:29:31 into our first lesson we're heading towards 2500 ft I'm going
1:29:35 to level off at 2500 all right and we'll just do a straighten
1:29:38 level while we're going east okay so as we get closer you
1:29:43 can see it's coming up there's a there's a last 100 right
1:29:46 there I'm just going to lower the nose gently until I'm
1:29:49 actually straighten level I'm pushing down on the Yol I'm pushing
1:29:52 in the yolk pushing in some more so you're not trimming or using
1:29:57 your yolk right now I'm not trimming yet I'm pushing I always
1:29:59 set it with the yolk and now I'm just about there
1:30:03 probably there and now I trim it all right so now it's
1:30:06 trimmed or or just wait for it it's going to speed up
1:30:08 a little now that it's trimmed the air speed speeds up CU
1:30:14 I'm going level now and as it speeds up it generates
1:30:17 more Lift You See Me lifting up all by itself so I'm
1:30:20 going to trim a little more it's going to pick up
1:30:22 a bit more air speed and it's going to come up yeah that's
1:30:27 good so that's pretty much it there I've pretty pretty much
1:30:32 pack yeah you're right I'm checking and that's fine this is sort
1:30:36 of fine oh it's creeping up a little bit I'm going to just
1:30:38 trim just a notch down so this is fine-tune stuff right trim
1:30:43 down a little more and now the air speed's getting right
1:30:45 up there I might pull back I'm at 2500 over here I
1:30:49 might pull back just a little bit maybe 2400 get the or uh
1:30:56 what's it called okay Teter okay yeah got it so now
1:31:03 we're looking where we are yeah this is where we want
1:31:05 to be do you see this you guys this is why it's
1:31:07 a good practice area ah we're over the field we're not bothering
1:31:10 anybody and uh if we are in trouble then of course we got
1:31:14 lots of area to land so there's nothing really here and we'll
1:31:16 do up and down this area all along all right so
1:31:20 there we're at level flight now before we go any further Jane
1:31:24 there's a is that a plane down there looks like it before
1:31:28 we go any further I want to make sure we do
1:31:30 our Hazel check Okay so we've got enough height here's what we do
1:31:34 for hazel height we're going to do the h l what does
1:31:39 that stand for again do you remember height uh attitude security oh
1:31:47 shoot see it was brand new just now so all right
1:31:50 the rest now the rest of the students we don't have the rest
1:31:53 of students with us right now see cuz we're alone
1:31:56 in the airplane so now they can't help you out yeah engine oh
1:32:01 yeah engine's in there so let's do the first one height
1:32:03 are we at high enough to do this right we're high enough
1:32:07 okay we're 2500 is good enough for now a lot of a lot
1:32:10 of this kind of work we'll do it 3,000 5,000 we'll
1:32:13 do it here because we're not doing really drastic Maneuvers now
1:32:17 height area height the area we're good yeah yeah um engine so
1:32:24 we just do a quick check of the engine next and then
1:32:27 you know the engine is pretty much like engine's good yeah we're
1:32:30 temperature pressure is in the green we got half tank fuel
1:32:33 we're good we got half tank fuel we got half tank fuel
1:32:37 you knew that from the walk around how much oil did we
1:32:39 have you remember half tank fuel oh what if if I were
1:32:44 to get in and ask you how much you know how
1:32:46 was the oil and the and the fuel what would you say
1:32:48 after your walk around was it all good great great that's
1:32:53 a good oil is great oil's great half tank yeah that's good way
1:32:58 to go Jane So now height area engine security so our seat
1:33:02 belts our doors anything loose make sure they're secured we're going
1:33:05 to be doing stuff right yeah all right so the next thing
1:33:09 height area engine security L is for look so look up now you
1:33:16 are looking out the left while I'm going to look out
1:33:19 the right so I'm over here on the right there's my seat
1:33:21 right there and we're going to do a 360 turn all right
1:33:25 I'm going to put it in the middle for us cuz we're
1:33:26 both looking different directions so I'm going to do a 360 turn
1:33:30 all the way around so I'm right now I'm facing East when
1:33:32 I'm done I'll be Facing East all right Okie do I'm going
1:33:35 to do something like that you're going to look left you see
1:33:37 any planes below us isn't that a nice zero planes below
1:33:41 zero planes I'm going to look right the whole time no planes
1:33:43 up above and as we turn you just keep watching you're looking
1:33:47 out front and you're watching that's my view she's looking up front
1:33:50 and she's looking down all right turn 10 left some people
1:33:55 some people actually do 180 and 180 others do a full 360
1:34:00 but it doesn't matter as long as you're looking at the area
1:34:02 she's constantly looking down I'm looking up and we're just making sure
1:34:06 because we're about to go all over this area and if
1:34:09 there's other planes around we want to know right and we'll just
1:34:12 talk to them or they should be on the frequency we're staying
1:34:14 on the tower frequency so they should be on it too he
1:34:17 a security engine okay I got it memorized now for next while
1:34:21 I'm coming all well I'm going to ask you next time so
1:34:23 I think I went past where did I start East yeah I
1:34:25 started East yeah you started East so and then I didn't even
1:34:29 look at my altitude while I'm talking and looking out but you
1:34:31 can see I've gained couple hundred feet 100t yeah so it's
1:34:36 annoying you guys but you have to do that right I
1:34:38 it's kind of annoying probably for me to switch the views like
1:34:40 that but all right so we're coming back to here the whole
1:34:44 idea now is now Jane is going to do the two main
1:34:47 skills right and I I'm going to demonstrate the two main skills
1:34:51 first of course is the straighten level which we are on even though
1:34:54 we're 100t or so above what we were and it's staying
1:34:58 trimmed like that and we're good we could fly like this forever
1:35:01 and there's no hands it's trimmed for level flight right so now
1:35:04 I want to T Charlie turn right head two I want to climb
1:35:10 or descend but what I'm going to do is one two
1:35:14 zero is turn the frequency off that's what I'm going to do
1:35:18 no that's that's life that's what you got to live with right
1:35:21 so now I'm going to climb to 3,000 ft all I'm going
1:35:23 to to do is a attitude attitude power trim All right
1:35:29 so I'm going to climb so I'm going to go attitude up
1:35:32 we go I'm pulling it back we already did our Lookout we're
1:35:35 good Nobody's around you can see it climbing I'm going to say
1:35:39 oh the lookout the window don't look at the instruments matter
1:35:41 of fact let's do this don't look at the instruments look out
1:35:43 the window what should it look like I'll pull back a bit
1:35:47 more n and I want you to think about that look all right
1:35:51 see the look out the window that's that's our climb now
1:35:56 we could look down here and say all right we're actually climbing
1:35:58 a bit too you know the air speed supposed to be a normal
1:36:02 climb could be anything between 60 70 even even 80 a gradual
1:36:07 climb at 80 but we actually use our air speed to figure
1:36:10 out our climb we don't want it to M local apprach
1:36:18 but we can do it like this all right and we're climbing
1:36:20 and nobody around and it's handsfree it's trimmed right now I said
1:36:23 we're going to 3,000 but I wanted to talk more about
1:36:26 air speed we'll we'll go to 3500 so that kind of look
1:36:30 you see it's like there's the look all right the nose is
1:36:33 above the Horizon I can look out the sides and see something
1:36:37 right I can look out that side too you know but really
1:36:40 what we want to see is this more sky less ground all
1:36:43 right now I'm getting to 3500 I'm going to push the yolk
1:36:46 forward just gently like that look at the view changing now you
1:36:50 can see more of the Horizon when we finally level up we
1:36:53 should be able to see the view and that's important what we
1:36:56 see out there is important because that's visual flight rules we don't
1:37:00 sit and fixate on the instruments again I'm just doing a quick
1:37:04 Lookout I know you guys it looks like paranoia but when you're
1:37:07 in a real plane got to be looking out all the time
1:37:10 to do this oh it's easy it's easy Jane see I
1:37:15 can do it while I'm talking right so I can do while
1:37:18 I'm talking you can do it too right if that helps
1:37:21 go for it so now so now uh and I don't mind
1:37:24 at all I mean whatever works for you right there are some
1:37:26 pilots who say everything they're doing I'm trimming I'm trimming I'm trimming
1:37:30 I'm turning left I'm turning left I might do that it
1:37:32 could get to some people after a while if you got passengers
1:37:34 who don't want to hear it all right so now I want
1:37:37 you to do the same thing okay I want you to climb
1:37:42 like I just did and this time you're going to climb
1:37:44 to 4,000 all right right now we're only at at 3500 it's
1:37:50 only that much we're going to climb to 4,000 all right simple
1:37:54 thing like that I'm going to give you control and right now
1:37:58 okay you have control all right I am I have control so
1:38:03 all right it's going up and that's good now when we when
1:38:06 we give control to each other you guys while she's concentrating goes
1:38:10 crazy I'll just tell chat this when we give control her trim
1:38:14 her throttle her controls could be in a different position so
1:38:18 sometimes there's a jump if you see the jump that's just changing
1:38:21 control to her controls right yeah now attitude power trim right so
1:38:26 I'm CL you want me to ascend right now yeah I want
1:38:29 you to ascend like let's climb doy so that it looks out
1:38:32 the window the way it should look okay attitude attitude power don't
1:38:39 worry about direction or anything else so I want you to do
1:38:41 attitude first does that look like a normal climb well it is
1:38:43 climbing right the speed's way up there so could you make
1:38:46 a a faster climb could the look out the window be different you
1:38:51 want me to go faster I want you to make the look
1:38:53 out the window the way it was for me like that that looks
1:38:57 nice beautiful that's a now you will climb faster so you're
1:39:01 almost there but that's the look I want you to see that's
1:39:04 a normal climb for the airplane right and it's still comfortable
1:39:07 for passengers 4,000 all right we are getting so you're ready2 contact tower.
1:39:16 there that's cool you're leveling up real nice and it's
1:39:19 looking good out the window do you see that's important so
1:39:22 you're glancing everybody she's glancing here but she's making sure
1:39:26 that looks same to Charlie just inside lo I want to be
1:39:31 able to let go of the Yol TM 72 Charlie
1:39:34 Spokan Tower Runway 21 C land wind 190 at5 Runway 21
1:39:39 rvr greater than 6,000 so can you give me control Jame
1:39:42 I'm going to turn the around you can do that yeah
1:39:45 all right you now have control I have control so
1:39:47 now what we'll do is I'll just turn the plane around
1:39:49 because we're getting out of the area he might end
1:39:51 up having us change the frequency which isn't a hard thing
1:39:54 but we have to be careful we don't get
1:39:55 into the mountains we don't we got to be careful we don't
1:39:57 get too far away we don't want the stream to be
1:40:00 like going to take Jane and Howard four hours to get
1:40:03 back to the airport true so we're staying pretty much
1:40:05 in the area right if you look around where we are
1:40:08 it's way back there what head West now now what
1:40:12 we're going to do is we're going to do a descent
1:40:14 all right I'm going to do a bit of a steeper
1:40:15 climb here or sorry a steeper turn and in next
1:40:19 lesson you're going to be doing medium and steep turns right
1:40:23 now you're going to just do mild turns or very light
1:40:26 turns we're going to do that to finish off our lesson
1:40:29 but right now I'm just getting back back around so
1:40:31 we can go back where we were okay so uh
1:40:36 let's just do maybe West now the next thing we want
1:40:39 to do Jane is descent right and we're going to have
1:40:42 you practice both again you only you've only done one Ascent
1:40:45 so far but now let's try a descent I'm going
1:40:47 to go from 4,000 or pretty much 4,000 I'm going to go
1:40:51 down to just 35 00 and then you're going to go
1:40:54 from 3500 to 3,000 all right so if you remember
1:40:58 the memory aid is Pat down if you're at the airport
1:41:01 they're going to pat you down right that's the security
1:41:04 check but we're going to use Pat to go down
1:41:06 so we're going to do power attitude trim so we're going
1:41:10 to cut power now watch this I'm at 4,000 and I'm
1:41:13 just going to cut power just to 2,000 look over here
1:41:17 I cut power to 2,000 yeah I'm gonna try to stay
1:41:20 level I'm not pushing I'm not pulling I'm doing absolutely
1:41:24 nothing and I pulled power only what 400 RPM and it's
1:41:30 automatically descending it's like this is easy and I'm keeping
1:41:33 my air speed right easy enough and I'm just descending
1:41:37 at a nice rate nice 500 I'm just going to try
1:41:40 and keep are your hand is this hands free right now
1:41:42 hands free now the only thing I am doing is I'm
1:41:44 moving the yolk a bit left or right it seems
1:41:45 to be moving a bit to the right if you wanted
1:41:48 to keep an exact heading you just adjust left or right
1:41:51 but I'm not pulling pushing I didn't even have to trim
1:41:53 it this the 152 is like that in the in the bigger
1:41:57 planes you have to trim it because it won't
1:41:58 just do it automatically so I'm coming up to 33500
1:42:03 I'm going to pull back to get up to level again
1:42:06 as I pull back to get to level I'll need
1:42:08 to go back to cruise power all right so oh that was
1:42:11 a bit too soon but I'll I'll I'll let it
1:42:14 descend just a little more and then as soon as I
1:42:17 get to around 3500 back to cruise power which is 24
1:42:23 and do my straight and level again simple as that now
1:42:25 I know these are for those watching right now these are
1:42:28 boring exercises it's like wow we're straight and level again
1:42:30 that's so exciting but you know these are the skills
1:42:33 every pilot needs to learn and get comfortable with instinctively all
1:42:37 right and there I am at 3500 I'm just doing
1:42:40 a quick look around no traffic we're very lucky today there's
1:42:43 no traffic right so now Jane I want you to go
1:42:46 from 3500 down to 3,000 okie dokie oh maybe I
1:42:52 should give you control you have control all right I have
1:42:56 control oh it's going down okay well done and there was
1:43:01 first is I'm going to try to level this out
1:43:04 again that's it yeah get control get a feel for it
1:43:08 all right it's about there okay so Pat power attitude
1:43:15 trim so now on a landing you could even take all
1:43:20 the power off but here we're just going to go Cru
1:43:24 take it less than what it is right now I was
1:43:26 picking 400 right yeah now if you don't pull back power
1:43:32 do you see what's happening you guys you see the speed
1:43:34 really increasing into yellow so she's got to pull back
1:43:37 that power I have decreased my power to 20 it's still
1:43:43 going pretty fast though I think it's my trade yeah so
1:43:45 so so I would say pull back more power if you're
1:43:49 descending too fast right just pull back more power and then
1:43:52 and then level up a bit with trim take it
1:43:56 to 2,000 take it to 1500 even like a landing could
1:43:59 be at500 1500 okay but that still works your your speed
1:44:05 is in the green you're traveling at the pretty much
1:44:08 the same as Cruise speed you are descending don't worry about
1:44:11 where we're stopping you can level up wherever you want
1:44:14 for now right and then and she's still over here at Cruise
1:44:17 she's still a cruise setting and she's descending right
1:44:21 but as long as she's not wrecking the engine this is
1:44:23 a faster descent I want you to level up at 2,000
1:44:26 this time okay you want me to level up 2,000 right
1:44:32 now all right leveling up increase power it's a very
1:44:41 responsive plane so she leveled up a bit still a bit
1:44:45 too high so you she dropped the nose a little more
1:44:48 let it let it descend bring it back up to level
1:44:52 it's always looking out the window so don't fixate
1:44:54 on that but you you can tell you're close and then trim
1:44:57 it and try and stay there right okay as she
1:44:59 trims it level it will speed up as it speeds up
1:45:01 they'll generate some more lift so you got to trim
1:45:04 again right a few fine tunings at the end I'll do
1:45:09 I'll do a quick Lookout here trim she can still see
1:45:12 her instruments where she is but I'm just doing a quick
1:45:15 Lookout call unreadable too much static all right it's about
1:45:19 trimmed out I think I'm kind of that's pretty close it's
1:45:24 great that's super when you when we get further
1:45:28 on in our lessons you're going to find that you can nail every
1:45:31 altitude you want right you want a nail 2000 you'll
1:45:34 just automatically boom trim it a little trim it a little
1:45:36 we're good right Alpha monitor ground see than so now what
1:45:45 I what I want to demonstrate I want you to still
1:45:48 do more descents and ascents so we'll do a few
1:45:50 more before we head back but I want to demonstrate gentle
1:45:53 turn there's three kinds of turns gentle I think it's
1:45:56 872 golf call in Seattle Center it's unreadable sir you're too
1:45:59 far away from the transmitter too low D there's gentle
1:46:02 medium thank you I you've given me control control I have
1:46:05 control and she gave me control while we're descending see
1:46:09 that it was just my controller set for that oh what yeah
1:46:12 it's all right so now so now what's going to happen
1:46:15 you guys I just want to there's there's medium sorry
1:46:17 there's gentle medium and steep all right so steep looks like
1:46:22 this there's a steep turn and then you got to try
1:46:25 and stay the altitudes let's see if I could stay
1:46:27 at 2,000 it's not showing off it's just we have
1:46:29 to know how to do this that looks ugly doesn't it
1:46:32 isn't that beautiful right and so that's a steep turn we're
1:46:36 going to learn that but not this lesson I want
1:46:38 you to feel what that's like what we're going to do
1:46:41 is just a gentle turn and to do a gentle turn
1:46:43 we actually measure it with this indicator here and it's it's
1:46:47 got graduations on it and we're just going to go
1:46:50 to one and a half to do our turns and I'm
1:46:54 going to have you do all kinds of turns now
1:46:55 Jane so the first thing I'm going to do is I'm
1:46:57 going to turn to the left to heading 33 they
1:47:01 tell me 33 so okay I'm turning left to 33 nice
1:47:05 gentle turn so my passengers don't reach for the brown bag
1:47:09 right so I'm just going to turn like that is is
1:47:11 each Notch 10 degrees or yep 10 degrees so we're
1:47:15 doing a 15 degree turn this is what you would do
1:47:17 on on climb out from a Runway you're still low
1:47:20 you're still slow you would typically do a Dental turn it
1:47:24 doesn't have to be perfect but it's this this area
1:47:27 Okay somewhere around 15° now as you know the plane is
1:47:32 designed to write itself right now I'm handsfree I just did
1:47:35 the turn and then left the Yoke alone and eventually it
1:47:38 gets back to level there's a term for that I
1:47:41 don't know if you've taken it in ground school yet when
1:47:44 the airplane writes itself back to level without doing anything what
1:47:47 is that have you ever heard of that before uh I
1:47:51 don't think so is anyone helping you in chat I
1:47:53 can't see chat right now station 872 golf Sal Center oh
1:47:57 let's see if chat knows something something at levels ofs yeah
1:48:05 she she's saying help oh my gosh so it was trying
1:48:11 to write itself and I was actually gaining altitude also
1:48:14 so it was something that makes for now squa 4146
1:48:18 ident so my point is you guys that you have
1:48:21 to nudge the Yol once in a while to get back
1:48:23 to that angle of of Bank all right because it's going
1:48:25 to eventually flatten itself again so I'm just doing a complete
1:48:28 turn on a nice gentle turn and Jane I'm just touching
1:48:31 the yolk once in a while to keep it turning otherwise
1:48:34 it'll go back to level again all right so now
1:48:37 I want you to try that all right doesn't matter about
1:48:39 the altitude right now as long as we're not below below
1:48:46 303 let see uh clear to the Boeing Field Airport VI
1:48:50 direct Storia that is file CL for level 2 three
1:48:53 Z don't spin out of control plane all right so yep
1:48:58 I'll give you control I'm just having a quick look where
1:49:00 we are all right we're still over the farmer field we're
1:49:03 great all right you have control yep all right oh
1:49:06 shoot oh my gosh hold on let me level this out
1:49:11 went crazy again one moment all right we're going to do
1:49:19 a gentle turn yeah so let's let's go this [Applause] way
1:49:30 looking good and that's very easy on passengers there's many
1:49:36 flights that you would be on where you didn't even know
1:49:38 the airplane change direction and that's the proper way to do
1:49:42 it to keep people comfortable right there's no hurry to get
1:49:45 there eventually we'll get there I did say 33 at first
1:49:48 but then I just left it turning but you would
1:49:51 eventually want to go to a spefic specific heading but that's
1:49:54 not for this first lesson the first lesson is getting
1:49:56 a feel for these things okay and then she leveled
1:50:02 up that's great leveled out go ahead here is something you
1:50:08 that was very easy wasn't it you look like you did
1:50:10 that before1 what I'd like to suggest Jane I'm going to take
1:50:16 a chance here without even demonstrating I want you to initiate
1:50:20 a climb okay okay and then I want you to do
1:50:23 a gentle turn while you're doing it so do one
1:50:26 and then the other either start the turn first and then
1:50:29 focus on the climb or start L 27 sure let's
1:50:35 uh let's turn first and then we'll climb after that you
1:50:39 pick whichever one you're comfortable with first right and typically
1:50:42 you do a quick Lookout nothing coming we're heading that way
1:50:45 I'm looking up nothing up there gentle turn that's nice
1:50:50 and then we'll start to Ascend here look how easy
1:50:54 that is you're really catching on Fast here and I'll say
1:51:00 um keep on turning and level out at 3,000 3,000 all
1:51:06 right and go as fast or slow as you want
1:51:08 for the for the uh Ascend right and you're just getting
1:51:16 a feel for the different speeds when you later on you'll
1:51:19 start picking a specific speed here and then you'll nail it
1:51:23 by bringing the nose up or bringing the nose down
1:51:25 and that's how you'll figure it out for future let's trim
1:51:28 up a little more so we can so she's doing
1:51:31 this you guys every time I've said you have control she really
1:51:33 does I don't I'm not doing a thing I have
1:51:35 control I could even jump for simulator learning reasons I could
1:51:39 jump outside the plane and watch what she's doing and we'll
1:51:41 do this when she starts doing Landings I'll be jumping out
1:51:44 of the plane to see how she's Landing okay and we
1:51:46 can learn from that but uh for now we'll just
1:51:49 stay inside the plane like normal like for real so
1:51:53 that looks good Jane that that angle there looks great you're seeing
1:51:56 the land there you're seeing Sky up here it's a beautiful
1:51:59 turn and it's a beautiful climb it's looking great all
1:52:03 right we're almost to 3,000 I'm going to start to level
1:52:06 out and so we'll learn later more precise ways to level
1:52:10 out but you you'll get a feel for it you'll
1:52:12 learn that you're doing it too soon you'll learn that you're
1:52:15 going you're blowing past your altitude you'll figure it out
1:52:18 right there is a general rule though we'll talk about
1:52:21 that as you get more precise with this okay cool s
1:52:24 where to interject yeah what's up I think one of you
1:52:29 your electrics are off because you've lost your turnning bank
1:52:35 and your radios oh oh oh you know what I guess since
1:52:40 you did it on your um so you're not getting
1:52:45 turn in Bank when you do it right is that what
1:52:48 you're saying right now Jan has control right here let's see
1:52:53 it I'm going I can't see in the chat but so
1:52:56 I don't have it open yeah so I think it's
1:53:00 because we have the shared cockpit mod one person did it
1:53:03 and I I didn't touch anything that's probably what it is
1:53:06 you guys but I haven't even told her how to use
1:53:08 the turn and bank yet we're not even worried about
1:53:10 that but uh okay we'll we'll demonstrate that later but this first
1:53:14 time out it's familiarity with the aircraft it's really just
1:53:17 nothing precise she's getting a feel for how far she
1:53:20 can Bank getting a feel for how she can go
1:53:23 forward and back and it's really it's really a familiari flight
1:53:27 as you can see in your airplane handbook right but that's
1:53:30 an interesting note that you made there ref riter I think
1:53:33 that's a good point later on we're going to need
1:53:36 it descend a little bit here for those who who are
1:53:39 wondering what he's talking about this is the the t&b
1:53:42 this is the turn and ball indicator we need this for precision
1:53:45 turns and we also need it for uh coordinated flight
1:53:48 to see if the ball is in the middle later on we'll
1:53:50 talk about that instrument because it's very important but we
1:53:53 don't need it today we're good okay I'm going to go
1:53:57 ahead and so it's interesting when I gave you control
1:54:01 yeah I have no radios so that's cool that's I didn't
1:54:04 know that would happen I hope I still have radios we'll
1:54:07 find out here we'll find out now you're going to give
1:54:10 me control y you have control I have control and I
1:54:13 have no radios wow okay well isn't that something so
1:54:24 this would normally be case for a Mayday you guys
1:54:27 so way to go Jane we're at 3,000 ft and we've
1:54:30 turned all the way around was like this is amazing
1:54:33 let me just see where we are nothing looks familiar we're
1:54:36 in New Country I have no idea oh yeah there's
1:54:40 our Farmers fields and there's the stream and there's the lake we're
1:54:43 going to turn around to go back I don't know
1:54:45 if I'm still on this on the frequency so I'm going
1:54:47 to have to call pay tower on their way back so
1:54:50 how are we for time are we pressed for time we
1:54:52 should head back yeah we should head back Sor okay
1:54:55 so normally while we're out here we would spend a whole
1:54:58 hour of you just doing climbs and descents now do
1:55:00 it again climb and descent now do it again and three
1:55:03 or four times and next lesson I'll have you do
1:55:06 the same thing and then we'll add something more to the lesson
1:55:08 all right that's how it would normally work so let's
1:55:11 uh I can't even tune Aus I can't my transponder doesn't
1:55:17 work either this is I I can't recycle the avionics
1:55:21 because there's no Avionics switch I'm just going to turn back
1:55:23 toward the airport for now okay if I can even you
1:55:28 know for in an emergency in our stream you guys I
1:55:30 can even just log off the ATC Network and just
1:55:34 sneak into the airport but in real life and this happened
1:55:37 to me in real life at one point where my alternator
1:55:40 wasn't working right my radios died and I had to use
1:55:44 emergency procedures I had to do Mayday stuff you did
1:55:47 wow and uh and it's and that's what you that's why
1:55:50 you keep the PO with you so there's the stream so
1:55:53 we're heading back toward where the airport the airport's over there
1:55:55 it's right along over there somewhere and uh and here oh
1:55:59 here's our stream here yeah so we're just going to head
1:56:01 back that way what I'm going to do
1:56:02 as a as a troubleshooting procedure I'm just going to recycle the power
1:56:07 right so well there's the reason why where in our checklist
1:56:10 did we turn our alternator on you see this you
1:56:12 guys that was not intentional we first turn on our battery
1:56:17 and then we check our alternator charge and right now
1:56:21 there was no alternator my radios are back on so
1:56:24 we were on battery the whole time this a good lesson
1:56:27 and we were dead we killed the battery now we've turned
1:56:30 the alternator on and we should have power all right so
1:56:34 we're okay let me check my checklist to see yeah somewhere
1:56:37 in there we did the master on but somewhere in there
1:56:40 we put the alt on yeah is it in there if it's not I got to add it to the I
1:56:45 think we got to add it maybe so that's a very
1:56:47 good lesson right there it wasn't intentional now when we
1:56:49 do that there is Al clean to the Reno fil
1:57:00 2 401 the departure departure frequency2 squawk 2476 I'm turning off
1:57:07 the alternator and I'm turning it back on so we
1:57:10 have is clear maintain 10001 minut back read back correct hold
1:57:21 for release give me a call number one ready for departure
1:57:25 we'll thank you now that they're quiet so I'm heading back
1:57:28 to the airport I'm just cutting power because I'm going
1:57:30 to descend all right and we're going to descend all the way
1:57:34 down to uh circuit height which will be around uh
1:57:40 1600 okay what we got to do is look for things
1:57:43 that we know so you know that looks like aever
1:57:45 up ahead it's hard to tell right now looks like
1:57:47 the airport should be right around there I've just you can
1:57:51 see my PMS I've just cut power completely I'll probably level
1:57:54 out at 2,000 I was normally going to have you
1:57:57 do it but I'll just I'll just do it myself Okie
1:57:59 doie I'm going to speed up and level off and that way
1:58:02 I get more speed here is that that same lake
1:58:04 or is that just a similar looking Lake yeah we're
1:58:07 going to look for that and you know it's VFR you
1:58:09 guys we could pull out the map right now and have
1:58:11 a look but we're we're really just looking for our landmarks
1:58:14 and if you remember we had this field there's actually
1:58:17 where we started to work out right here all right so
1:58:19 we're actually going to head over that way the the the field
1:58:22 is probably right there the airport or right there
1:58:26 and as we get closer we're going to be looking for that lake
1:58:28 so that we can use that as our as our turn to base or turn to final and I said
1:58:35 we're we're going to level off at departure clear FL
1:58:39 if off in 5 minutes if not off in 5
1:58:40 minutes advis intentions only one Z minutes from now time 0
1:58:44 4 04 and a half change to advisor frequen [Applause] like
1:58:52 this doesn't look like the Sameer 426 Tower and you can't
1:58:56 see my screen I'm landing in the fields are you
1:59:00 oh wow you're you're not actually on here Jane I don't
1:59:04 see you in the the client disconnected somehow so I'll take
1:59:07 it from here can you hear the radio to Walker 426
1:59:12 atle on the talking the radio's on right so I
1:59:17 just wonder Walker 426 e Tower Runway 25 C land 263
1:59:22 clear land Runway 2port 26 someone's Landing so can you guys
1:59:28 hear that on the stream just so we can understand if
1:59:30 you hear it or not could you hear the radio
1:59:33 can you just check that on the stream can they hear
1:59:36 the radio over top of your voice yes they can
1:59:40 okay so now oh I don't know why I'm going so
1:59:42 slow so now I'm heading toward the airport somewhere I don't
1:59:45 really know where you know I'm still coming over the farmers
1:59:48 Fields here I should just speed it up you guys
1:59:52 and I want to descend too so I want to get
1:59:53 down to 2,000 so as we get closer we certainly
1:59:56 want to check the Adis I'm going to check right now
1:59:58 we're going to check if it's the same or if it's
2:00:01 different it might be a different call sign or a different
2:00:03 number right remember it was Mike I'm going to just
2:00:07 try stay there let's runways 3 4 left 3 4 right
2:00:13 1 six right departing runways 1 6 right 3 4 left
2:00:18 3 4 right ILS Runway 1 16 right approach and use
2:00:22 IFR departures expect Runway 1 6 right VFR departures expect
2:00:28 Runway 34 righto R34 left read back all Runway assignments
2:00:34 and hold short instructions advise an initial contact you have information
2:00:41 mic so you notice that it's information mic still so we're
2:00:45 good we already know it's Mike but we got to say
2:00:47 that when we come in right spe it up a little
2:00:56 more we're on a b line for the airport because
2:00:59 we're on a timeline so can you see us Jane because
2:01:05 your yours is did you level yours up or how
2:01:08 did yours work out oh I I exited out so I
2:01:12 could finish watch you land I'm watching The Stream now okay
2:01:17 so there is a a lake over there well actually there's
2:01:20 a bunch of little Lakes right look at that scenery
2:01:23 mhm gorgeous hay has settled over Seattle Seattle's down that way
2:01:27 you guys not far from here ble man so how far
2:01:36 away are we well that's what we have to guess cuz
2:01:38 we got to tell the tower where we are they
2:01:40 know where we are but we have to tell them I'm
2:01:42 guessing we're about 8 miles away from them and so
2:01:47 we're 8 miles to the east all right so I'm just
2:01:50 going to say that I'm going to do it right
2:01:51 now and give them a call and tell them where we
2:01:53 are tell them we're in for landing right so uh okay
2:01:58 um pain Tower cesna 67 Niner ner1 5 East at 2000
2:02:03 to land with Mike see what they say about that last
2:02:10 calling heard nothing but static I got the receive light
2:02:13 but didn't hear any voice pain Tower radio check this is
2:02:18 67991 yeah same thing so I'm going to have to get
2:02:26 closer you guys because uh that should work from this far
2:02:30 away maybe it's because I had a dead battery
2:02:32 but the alternator should be giving us proper power we are
2:02:35 on the right frequency but he says we're getting static so oh
2:02:40 well oh is your mic muted the uh the one
2:02:43 that talks to Pilot no he can hear me but oh
2:02:47 okay let's try it once more I'm going to do
2:02:50 one more check here okay pain Tower cesna 67 niner niner
2:02:54 1 5 East at 2000 to land with Mike there
2:02:58 we go the call sign for me cesna 67 ner Niner
2:03:04 one say 67 ner Niner one Tower and our right base
2:03:08 Runway 34 right report 2 Mile right base report 2 Mile
2:03:12 right base 679 or9 or1 so they're giving us what
2:03:16 we expect we expected a 34 right that's where we took
2:03:19 off and they and we're doing a base which we pretty
2:03:22 much on right now till I see where the airport is
2:03:24 and we'll figure it out so we're coming in and then
2:03:26 we'll be turning toward 34 right if you look
2:03:29 at the heading indicator there's 33 34 is right there so
2:03:34 we're pretty much on a base we'll we'll worry about the circuit
2:03:37 later we will learn more but we're going to be
2:03:39 turning right as they said 48 contact Oakland Center 13 2.2
2:03:44 and the last thing he told me was to report 2
2:03:46 miles right so I'm going to have to guess at 2
2:03:48 miles right you know we have to guess cuz we
2:03:51 don't have measuring equipment in this in this airplane but yeah
2:03:55 so we are about 3 miles out right now so
2:03:57 here's the lake we talking about that's an important Mark we
2:04:00 could even come in closer to the lake and then
2:04:02 turn we we'll come in from here we're good now I
2:04:07 want to be down to Circuit height by the time I'm
2:04:09 in here so I'm going to get down a little lower
2:04:11 maintain for level 2 three so you're probably pretty good
2:04:13 now at judging how how many miles we are from things
2:04:16 just looking out like how many miles do you think we
2:04:19 are from the water Walker 426 X parking via Alpha so
2:04:23 okay T parking VI Al 26 there there's our practice
2:04:27 area at 4 and a half to 5 miles and we're
2:04:30 inside it I'd say we're two and a half I'm
2:04:32 going to actually call and say we're two by the time
2:04:34 I finish the call all right okay pain tow cesna
2:04:39 679991 2 miles to the east uh for the right base
2:04:43 for 34 right that's a 67 ner 91 wind variable
2:04:50 at four Runway 34 right C clear to land s 679991 thank
2:04:57 you so we're really just looking for a Runway it's
2:05:00 VFR so you know it's Visual and we're just really just
2:05:04 looking I don't even see an airport it's right around there
2:05:07 somewhere one of the hints is this Diagonal Road and there's
2:05:10 another Diagonal Road getting closer I think that's way up
2:05:13 there yeah right I think we're actually way too far out
2:05:15 so I'm just going to do like a slant final4 center
2:05:20 132.5 now I do want to still stay a bit low
2:05:23 you guys I'm too high but uh I'm staying high
2:05:25 at the moment because I'm pretty far out and I
2:05:27 just want to see oh there it is it's over
2:05:29 there there it is yeah so I'm doing a slant sorry
2:05:32 of a slant base to get to the to get
2:05:34 to the airport all right and it always helps when you got
2:05:38 two people in the plane because then you can both look
2:05:40 for it right so now I got to get Downer cling
2:05:43 for level 24 I get up to level 250 for directional
2:05:46 flight what I'm doing they're talking to somebody else so
2:05:49 what I'm doing is I'm trying to get down to Circuit
2:05:51 height so I'm just going to pull some power no
2:05:54 problem 2 the nose is going to drop like we
2:05:57 did in our demonstration you're absolutely right look at you I
2:06:02 know something 1,600 y absolutely that's good way to go now
2:06:09 I haven't dropped any flaps yet because I haven't got down
2:06:12 to to Circuit height but a mile out typically
2:06:14 a mile out you'll be at 1,000 ft above the above
2:06:17 the ground at half a mile out you will be around
2:06:20 500 ft so general rule now that big Runway there is
2:06:24 the bigger Runway if I keep going I'm in the way
2:06:26 of all the airliners and there could be one coming
2:06:28 in right now so you don't want to go any further
2:06:32 that's the bigger Runway and we don't want to cut cut across
2:06:34 that right so we'll turn here and then we'll figure
2:06:37 out where our Runway is it looks like it's somewhere right
2:06:39 around there so now what I want to do I want
2:06:42 to make sure that my speed is in the flap range
2:06:45 it is I can drop some flap all right so
2:06:47 I've just put one one degree of flap on which well
2:06:51 10 de one notch of flap I'm looking out to make
2:06:54 sure my flaps are working yep and I'm going to do
2:06:57 one more okay I got one more flap in so
2:07:02 we just say one more but what that is is now
2:07:04 20 degrees of flap do you see that and I'll
2:07:06 land at 20 degrees so it's just observance right now Jane
2:07:10 because eventually you'll do a land but don't be stressing
2:07:13 it all right 1500's good I'm a little far out so
2:07:17 I'm not going to dive down too fast I might even
2:07:20 have to give it a bit B more power but we'll
2:07:23 learn later about power versus uh pitch and what I
2:07:26 want to do is just keep a steady descent down
2:07:29 to the runway and it's not any set number you guys
2:07:32 it's whatever you feel right about this is a long final so
2:07:37 I'll probably give it a bit more power okay bit
2:07:41 more power and uh and Pitch it so that I may
2:07:44 probably come up at 62 64 knots to land so what
2:07:48 I'm doing is I'm just watching over the I'm watching just
2:07:50 over the Cal I'm making sure that that doesn't go
2:07:53 up or down too drastically that's the threshold of our Runway
2:07:57 we've already been cleared to land we don't have to say
2:07:59 anything more to the tower go ahead okay there was
2:08:05 something happening there who was that was that someone
2:08:06 on the radio and I'm going all the way in all I'm
2:08:10 doing right now you guys is left or right either
2:08:13 with my brother that's correct I think that's actually what happened uh
2:08:16 regarding your altitude and the routing but uh just continue
2:08:18 as you previously filed I'm fine with that so really it's
2:08:23 just this is to me this you know the restricted areas
2:08:26 down there aren't simulated on the network so you'll be uh
2:08:28 terminating IFR at that point and uh on your own
2:08:30 for the uh training area down there so now I've cut
2:08:34 a bit of power because the runway was starting to disappear
2:08:39 and my speed was increasing cut some more power I'm I'm
2:08:43 really not doing anything with the Yol except left
2:08:45 and right it's a very quiet time it's it's it's handsfree
2:08:51 but I'm going to have to flare sooner or later right
2:08:53 keep the numbers in sight keep myself aligned the numbers are
2:08:57 gone I'm going to look all the way to the end
2:08:59 of the runway all the way to the end pull
2:09:02 up keep aligned pull up by the time I'm done
2:09:06 the Yol is by my chest there I touch down I let
2:09:09 the the nose fall a bit too fast but it's
2:09:12 down and I could turn there if I really break hard
2:09:15 but I'm just going to go up where we were
2:09:16 parked before butter three Butters three Butters that's all I got
2:09:20 for I gave you gave you three CD gave me only
2:09:23 three that's out of three right I'm just kidding no it
2:09:27 wasn't textbook you guys I did I I let the nose
2:09:29 drop too fast afterwards it didn't hurt the nose but it
2:09:32 was a bit abrupt the nose you should still hold
2:09:35 off and let the nose eventually settle as the airsped Decay
2:09:37 so it wasn't a pitcher Perfect Landing but that's okay
2:09:41 we'll we'll earn and matter of fact once you do it
2:09:43 Jane you'll earn the highest Butters you oh wow what's
2:09:48 the highest amount of butter one can earn uh uh that's
2:09:52 the real 67991 taxi to parking via Fox shop remain
2:09:56 this frequency and tell Jane she did a great job did you
2:10:00 hear that Jane 42 did you hear that oh SES
2:10:04 679991 thanks a lot we'll pass the comments on so you
2:10:08 didn't hear him say that how did he know it
2:10:10 was Jane in the plane huh I don't know that was
2:10:14 cool you didn't even say anything on the channel that was
2:10:18 cool so what I did what I did what I
2:10:21 was there you guys was I didn't say it because we
2:10:24 were we were impressed with the controller but uh I put
2:10:27 the flaps up the transponder you'd normally turn to standby
2:10:31 but I was just impressed the fact that he knew Jane
2:10:33 was on board so I I kind of didn't do
2:10:35 all the checklist items they're watching the stream maybe are they
2:10:40 that's just so are they watching the stream oh okay
2:10:43 that's pretty cool that was pretty cool so uh once we
2:10:47 got past that uh hold short then we would have put
2:10:49 this back on standby here now Jane the last thing we
2:10:53 got to do is the after landing checklist right and I
2:10:55 would normally have this on the guard frequency and I
2:10:57 would switch that over to make sure we didn't activate
2:10:59 our elt and I had switch over to ground he said we
2:11:03 stay on the frequency so we're staying on the frequency
2:11:05 we're fine and we taxied to parking right yes so now
2:11:09 I'm going to put the parking brake on you're going
2:11:10 to tell me what to do next Sure hold this up hold
2:11:15 on parking brake is on parking brake is on great
2:11:21 one second where are we take off down check shut down
2:11:36 let's see so we're doing the no we have to laps
2:11:44 up okay are we doing the shutdown procedures right now
2:11:47 I'm trying to Y we're clear the active I already
2:11:49 did that we're we're done we note the time down so
2:11:53 the time down is 228 228 was probably 225 when we
2:11:58 touched down but that's fine 228 WR that down we got
2:12:03 our taxic clearance and now it's che check so that's
2:12:08 what I did on the radio I checked for 1215
2:12:10 for the guard frequency to see if we activated the elt
2:12:13 in this plane I didn't do the passenger briefing this time
2:12:17 but in this plane it's over the uh maybe not I
2:12:24 thought it was right around here a little red button maybe
2:12:26 they don't have one here it might be in the back
2:12:28 so anyway we we'll I'll find it later that could be
2:12:31 it right there on and off but that's an elt
2:12:34 check but the check really is the radio to make sure
2:12:36 it doesn't actually send out the beeps and it's fine
2:12:39 I didn't do a hard Landing okay avionics off uh all
2:12:43 right so I did that right there I did them
2:12:46 individually because there's no master switch they're all off okay okay
2:12:50 I don't 10000 RPM all right so idle to 1,00 let's
2:12:54 bring it back upk you guys um okay it's back up
2:13:02 to th000 okay mixture out cut off mixture out so
2:13:05 this is how you turn off an engine you guys mixtures
2:13:07 out okay awesome propeller stopped ignition switch off and remove
2:13:13 the key all right so that's over here ignition switch is here
2:13:19 cool off it goes normally you pop the key out
2:13:22 and what's the last thing Master off and now we tin
2:13:24 the master off and you look outside the prop is done
2:13:29 these are actually winding down and you can see the little
2:13:34 red tag come out the flag coming out means they're
2:13:37 not working properly that's what that means cuz they're not spinning
2:13:40 anymore that's cool last thing is record record the Hobs
2:13:43 time the Hobs time we got to do it there it
2:13:48 is 7.1 7.1 we went from 6.3 to 7.1 yeah
2:13:55 and that's that's for the maintenance guys and your air time
2:13:57 is for your log book yes me too Edward yeah I
2:14:01 think some of us will definitely re rewatch this a few
2:14:04 times Well Done to for guys the flaps are up
2:14:07 barely did anything flaps and there's our little baby look
2:14:10 at that thing yay 679 okay so we're back with the students
2:14:15 right yeah students so let's finish the debrief right we still
2:14:20 got people with us I have no idea how's things
2:14:21 going you guys you guys there are you there all right
2:14:26 so let's here y enjoyed every minute of it that's great
2:14:32 to hear super so what I'm going to do just give
2:14:35 me a second I'm G to get rid of the noise of the airport um H2 fat boy am I ever
2:14:42 going to take lessons in a real plane I hope
2:14:44 sometime yeah not right now but once I feel really comfortable
2:14:49 tomorrow right right Jane tomorrow sure tomorrow all right so
2:14:56 other questions were the students flying along were were you guys
2:15:01 flying Along on your own no watching I was just watching
2:15:05 yeah they were watching we had a GoPro in the back
2:15:07 of the plane and they saw everything we did Jane so
2:15:09 they were learning while we were there right inside the cockpit
2:15:13 I was flying the area for in the classroom stuck
2:15:16 in the classroom yeah all you could hear all the planes
2:15:19 outside yeah so yeah down a few questions from the chat
2:15:25 sure yeah let's hear those yeah okay so whe there
2:15:28 wasn't discussion about mixture right uh Scott 87 asks is
2:15:33 it okay to use the mixture control to set the set
2:15:35 to really lean to maximize fuel savings or is it
2:15:40 possible to damage the ending engine by running to lean y
2:15:45 both of those are he's right on both so you can
2:15:48 can I answer that Jane you know the answer that you
2:15:51 you can jump in right cuz no seriously it looked
2:15:53 like you're going to answer well you said that you start
2:15:56 to lean it on aess 152 after like 3,000 right so
2:16:00 since we went all the way up to 4,000 we probably
2:16:02 could have well on and the reason we didn't first
2:16:05 of all for the Simplicity of the lesson we ought to focus
2:16:07 on what we're doing it won't hurt it to leave
2:16:09 it rich when you leave it rich it's burning more fuel
2:16:12 than you need to but it also helps with cooling
2:16:15 wasting money wasting money but not much but so the point
2:16:18 is that you could have on a long longer cruise
2:16:20 to to save money on fuel and to run your engine efficiently
2:16:24 but in the SES 152 in the PO it says
2:16:27 above 5,000 it's the 172 that says above 3,000 and generally
2:16:31 accepted for 3,000 right uh there was also discussion about
2:16:35 that uh and I think Rich tack pointed out and we
2:16:39 looked it up in the PO that the 152 says
2:16:43 uh mixure Rich below 3,000 lean for maximum rpm above 3,000
2:16:47 above three okay I read it in my I have
2:16:50 a different model P so this is my paper one right here
2:16:54 and so I I I I'm going to go
2:16:56 with your P because that's the standard we're using in this course
2:16:58 so that's that's 10 corrected I'm glad that you guys figured
2:17:01 that out thanks for doing that and in the 172 which
2:17:04 I fly all the time it is 3,000 also so
2:17:06 above 3,000 if you're going to stay there for any length
2:17:09 of time go ahead and lean it all right okay that's
2:17:12 that's a great question way to go yeah and that's when
2:17:14 you start leaning you guys so the Leaning part you
2:17:17 do it there's a specific way to do it it's right
2:17:19 in the pH of how to do it you would
2:17:21 lean it for maximum rpm and come back to a rich
2:17:24 setting it's typically 50° Rich so that you know sounds
2:17:28 complex but it gets easier after a while but you don't
2:17:31 leave it full lean with full RPM because that can damage
2:17:34 the engine it gets it's running too hot right but there
2:17:37 is an actual procedure for that I I covered it
2:17:39 on my stream at one point and I think you have
2:17:42 some questions for us oh go ahead sorry yeah there's
2:17:46 a question from Ray burn or AR3 burn uh he asked why
2:17:51 doesn't the plane idle at a good RPM like cars
2:17:54 do but it does it idles around 650 but it it
2:17:59 they want us to always put it back up to a thousand
2:18:01 just because it's it's pulling more air in and it's
2:18:04 helping with cooling while you're sitting on the ground so
2:18:07 and the and the generators the alternator working properly so they
2:18:11 always recommend it's whatever the PO recommends when I was
2:18:14 landing at one point I wanted to get down quicker so
2:18:16 I pulled power completely but because I was descending it
2:18:20 was pulling it was actually making the propeller bit propellers move
2:18:24 faster so I couldn't actually idle it was still around
2:18:28 probably 1,200 or something because it was just still going fast
2:18:31 but on the ground you can pull it the throttle
2:18:33 all the way back and it should idle somewhere around 600
2:18:36 650 for these planes and it idles fine it's just they're
2:18:39 saying it's not the most efficient for cooling while you're just
2:18:42 sitting there there's no air really pushing through that engine
2:18:45 right air cooled engine I hope that answers does that answer
2:18:49 the question great questions thank you chat that's great you guys
2:18:55 have these questions I'm glad to see it you guys so final
2:18:59 question I noted down from Steve Parker 12 uh he
2:19:03 asked how to F tune trim control in Microsoft flight simulator
2:19:07 and I think actually Howard you talked about you know
2:19:10 you trim the air speed increases you get more lift you
2:19:13 need to trim more so you you need to take
2:19:15 it you know the way I understood it is you need
2:19:17 to do it one step at a time you can't do
2:19:20 all the trim in one go it's a fine tune you're
2:19:23 right it's a fine tune but let me say
2:19:25 this the the I think the real question he's asking is in flight
2:19:28 simulator you don't actually have wind coming over your Yol
2:19:31 your Yol is just rubber bands inside or Springs and so
2:19:34 how do you do it in simulator and I think
2:19:36 that's the real question right and so um in the simulator
2:19:40 you you are are pulling back to to to climb
2:19:43 and there's pressure on the yolk there's pressure on a stick too
2:19:46 the stick wants to go back to center right so
2:19:49 there's pressure on the Yol what you doing is trimming
2:19:51 the plane and letting go gently on the yolk letting go
2:19:55 and then letting go completely when you let go completely is
2:19:58 it where you want to be if it's not you
2:19:59 got to trim some more but the pressure on the yolk
2:20:02 is really a mechanical physical pressure made by Springs or by bunge
2:20:06 cords so in the simulator it's not real wind going
2:20:09 over the airplane right so that's that's the real question is
2:20:13 how do you trim it you keep easing off the yolk
2:20:15 while you trim until your handsfree in every attitude she
2:20:18 was climbing hands free descending
2:20:20 handsfree level flight handsfree Landing handsfree
2:20:24 right except for left and right kind of adjust and that's
2:20:27 what trim is for you can't you can't have the pressure
2:20:29 of that the whole trip right you're going to get
2:20:31 tired hopefully that answers your question any if there are any
2:20:37 other Pilots or instructors in our group today in our our chat
2:20:40 area by all means you can speak up too
2:20:41 and help us with these answers as CDL and I
2:20:45 pilots in chat I know CD yeah CDL and I did
2:20:48 this like months ago we were first tuning
2:20:50 into your to your to your stream Jan we helping out who are
2:20:54 these two people who are these out a lot now you're
2:20:57 on my stream all the time yeah and I hope that's
2:21:00 okay and and I hope you guys a pilot but I
2:21:04 am a xionic tech that worked on aircraft for 20
2:21:09 years so that's awesome I know a lot about how it
2:21:14 works yeah just don't know how to fly properly so now
2:21:18 we know who to ask right everybody write down his handle
2:21:21 there we're going to ask him a lot of questions
2:21:22 about how it works right so that was good yeah so
2:21:26 is that is that the general questions or there any more
2:21:28 that are left over by all means ask we've we've got
2:21:31 other Pilots here too that can help in the in the meantime
2:21:36 we do have a couple of questions that we
2:21:37 should finish up in the briefing here this is what
2:21:40 Jane did While She Was Out There although she would normally
2:21:42 do more than that but for the sake of the stream
2:21:44 we didn't do too many of it right taking it
2:21:47 easy so the the first question I'm gonna I'm just G
2:21:49 to ask probably few questions here just to finish up
2:21:51 you guys and this is typical of all flights do something
2:21:54 for postflight to finish up ask a student how did they
2:21:58 feel about it what did you think was wrong what did
2:22:00 you think you need practice on I mean you really
2:22:02 you really have this one-on-one with a student right so I'm
2:22:05 going to ask all six of you right all five
2:22:08 on on voice and and Jane who's now been in the air
2:22:10 and back again so this is probably one of the hardest
2:22:13 questions I'm going to ask but see if you can
2:22:16 find out where we would find this answer so looking
2:22:18 at your aeronautical map which you have in your kit what is
2:22:22 the diameter in nautical miles of pfield you need to know
2:22:27 that before you get into the control Zone you got
2:22:29 to be ready to call them and ask if you can
2:22:31 come in what how far away was that do you remember
2:22:34 when we were talking in the air or Do You
2:22:36 Remember by looking at your map how far out or what
2:22:39 is the diameter of panfield control Zone we'll just ask
2:22:44 the first question first right yeah I'm looking at the map
2:22:48 and I'm not going to give one of you I'm not
2:22:50 going to say Jane you have to do it I don't
2:22:51 want to pressure any one of you any of the six
2:22:54 of you if you want to jump in and tell me
2:22:56 how you found that answer what do you think is
2:22:58 the answer so I I think we can see it
2:23:03 on you know I just have little nav map right
2:23:07 and uh and and there's this uh circle around the airport uh
2:23:11 and there's a label says 30 uh you know you
2:23:15 can read the diameter of it and then there's also uh
2:23:18 the ceiling height at it says 31 which means 3,100 ft
2:23:24 you guys seeing that yeah right there 31 that's the ceiling
2:23:27 height so we can't go above 31 inside this zone
2:23:31 for pay field above 31 you're into traffic coming through here
2:23:34 going to Seattle the big ones are overhead so we
2:23:39 got to stay under 31 for this particular typically class D
2:23:43 or I did I give it away this is a Class
2:23:44 C typically they would only rise to about 4,000 typically
2:23:48 right but this one says specifically 3100 so we got
2:23:51 to stick with that okay so what I'm trying to find where
2:23:55 the diameter is yeah so that's a good point I
2:23:59 mean that's a trick question really because I'm just seeing if
2:24:02 you've read anything or dive into your book any any
2:24:04 of the real details and you will eventually but this is
2:24:07 a Class C right beside the name of it the actual
2:24:11 uh IO code some of the frequencies are here and it
2:24:14 says C right on the dotted line do you see
2:24:16 that c there uh let me see if I can zoom
2:24:18 in oh yeah I can zoom in a little more there
2:24:20 we are so it's a Class C so in in your oh
2:24:23 there's another class C over here this is probably Harvey
2:24:25 field so so you would you would um you would know that class C D E you a b all
2:24:32 of the different classes and they usually use the phonetic alphabet they'll
2:24:35 say class Alpha class Bravo class Delta we've got a class
2:24:39 Charlie right that's what they say and so uh and that's
2:24:43 typically to 4,000 but here we have 3100 and typically
2:24:46 they're five miles so before five miles you got to ask
2:24:51 to come into their Zone and that's what I did
2:24:53 at I don't know I think it was 8 miles out
2:24:55 or something I I called them and said um you
2:24:57 know I'm coming into last okay I thought I thought blue
2:25:01 dotted lines was a Class D airport yeah it might be
2:25:07 um yeah because you know that's a good point they're actually
2:25:10 labeling it C and here you see a magenta C
2:25:13 also so that you so the way to find out you
2:25:15 guys the way to to be self-sufficient here the way
2:25:17 to find out is to zoom out I'm using sky ctor you
2:25:20 can use the same oh typically you zoom out you
2:25:23 get you get the legend okay no Legend wow no Legend
2:25:26 okay who I thought I could zoom out and get
2:25:29 the legend but I I I can't but typically on an aeronautical
2:25:32 map I am on world VFR yeah typical on an aeronautical
2:25:36 map you can just zoom out and see and see
2:25:38 what the legend is for all the symbols but I'm very
2:25:41 surprised here that you can't but anyway so there's a question
2:25:43 for the next session why is it a Class C
2:25:48 when it looks like it should be a d here I
2:25:50 think we're yeah we're there yeah that's the place so
2:25:53 there's a good qu that's a great question right and then
2:25:56 the last one was maximum altitude okay you answered that one
2:25:58 already or one of you did that's great so um
2:26:03 last C maximum altitude five nautical M yeah so let's look
2:26:07 at the next one I'm going to ask you this one
2:26:08 Jane because this is you were in the plane and I
2:26:11 think you already told me what these numbers were it
2:26:13 was really impressive right so what is VY and VX
2:26:17 VY is rate of climb that was uh 67 nope 55
2:26:24 I'm messing them up VX is rate of is angle
2:26:28 of climb I think that one very good so um just
2:26:31 think of the X as an angle of climb right
2:26:33 and so yeah that's how I and it's always the slower
2:26:36 one and it means it means a sharp angle right it
2:26:39 means a slower air speed too because you're pointing the nose
2:26:42 higher so the slower air speed is the 55 right
2:26:44 and you would do that for an obstacle at the end
2:26:46 of the runway some some places have that or a building
2:26:50 or something like that so you'd have to use
2:26:51 that and you wouldn't stay that air speed for very long
2:26:54 because um it's not good for cooling on the engine so
2:26:58 wa to go you got it right yeah Best Rate
2:27:01 best angle they call it right the V speeds and there's
2:27:04 lots more V speeds but those were important right now
2:27:06 that when we were flying okay what's the maximum crosswind um Dale
2:27:11 you want to answer that one uh 12 knots look
2:27:19 at you wow just like that jump right in there wow
2:27:22 okay so where did you find that in the PO
2:27:26 section 4.3 oh my gosh look at this specific he didn't
2:27:33 say like I would say like it's in section four
2:27:35 somewhere because I don't memorize there he's go four do3 right
2:27:39 like right on nice yes so that that could be any
2:27:42 combination of any angle of wind but the effective crosswind once
2:27:46 it's above 12 we should not go flying that's the general
2:27:50 idea right or we should not take off anyway because
2:27:52 it could unless you're experienced pilot but anyway that's just saying
2:27:56 demonstrated crosswind from According to the PO and that's a general
2:27:59 rule that number gets higher with heavier planes of course
2:28:02 right I think it's 15 maximum for 172 right all right
2:28:07 so um let me think now I don't have the list
2:28:09 of the five students in front of me but I'm going
2:28:11 to say I'm going to say block strot when do
2:28:16 we use the red knob the mixture control I think he
2:28:19 lost his mic did he lose his mic no no
2:28:24 I'm back okay so who else we got who's who's there
2:28:30 uh raving right I'm here okay what do you what's
2:28:34 the red knob for red knob uh so that it's a dispenser
2:28:39 No it's h for mixture control mixture control it's a dispenser
2:28:43 when you're hungry for hot chocolate what did we hear
2:28:48 Jane what did we hear earlier in the classroom
2:28:50 in the ground school classroom what was one of the suggestions you
2:28:53 remember for what the red knob does uh we were laughing
2:28:56 our head off ejection seat the ejection seat yeah that's what
2:28:59 it was seat like yeah one of you guys come
2:29:02 up with that right it was like oh that's great that's
2:29:04 priceless the red knob is the ejection seat yeah they change
2:29:08 the ratio of of air and uh fuel look at you
2:29:12 yeah look at you paying attention wow look at that that's
2:29:15 cool yeah I did I even printed it above 5,000
2:29:18 cuz that was out of my P but yeah I better
2:29:20 I better change that back to three you guys you're absolutely
2:29:22 right gas yes yeah the gas I mean the fuel
2:29:26 yeah I mean and you know we say gas to air
2:29:28 generally but it's it's it's actually fuel to oxygen if you
2:29:31 want to get really technical right but we'll just say gas
2:29:34 and I do okay yeah what is the airport yeah
2:29:36 we got that already airport oh I guess yeah we'll just
2:29:39 review it what was the airport elevation again how did
2:29:41 you know what it was uh it's on the top right
2:29:45 of the um diagram I got my checklist yeah top right
2:29:49 of the diagram for the airport oh the top right 608
2:29:53 yeah so and that's where you got it from when we
2:29:55 were leaving you we saw we were 608 and we knew
2:29:57 that circuit height would be 1608 or we just round it
2:30:00 to 1600 way to go 3,000 for the on that we
2:30:03 do yeah I got that wrong earlier okay beautiful all
2:30:08 right I think we've got one last one some circuits
2:30:10 are left and some are right hand at this airport
2:30:13 why is that we had to come in on a right
2:30:16 base to go to 34 right is any idea why anybody
2:30:21 in in our in their classroom but I'll let the someone
2:30:24 else answer okay one of the five want to jump
2:30:26 in who hasn't answered one yet you want to stay out
2:30:30 of the way of the larger aircraft for one at this field
2:30:35 that would be a good reason wouldn't it like yeah
2:30:38 very good reason we're in a little 152 we just
2:30:41 get blown away so easily it's like o excuse me that's
2:30:47 when you tuck and roll out of there no there could
2:30:49 be there could be elaborate yeah go ahead yeah noise abatement
2:30:55 depending on if you're over populated areas true terrain or other
2:31:03 hazards such as antennas or structures are also included in reasons
2:31:12 why left or right yep yeah way to go it's
2:31:16 absolutely true right it's typically to keep you away from builtup
2:31:19 areas you know how airports are out in the middle
2:31:21 of nowhere but they end up building houses around them eventually
2:31:25 and uh and they just want to keep the traffic away
2:31:27 from you know if you have a trouble with your airplane
2:31:30 you're away from the people away from the but uh
2:31:33 and that's very common at a lot of airports so you
2:31:35 got to look at the airport diagram you got to look
2:31:37 at the um you know information about that airport to find
2:31:41 out which and they'll probably remind you too yeah uh
2:31:44 we were just at in a group fly we were just
2:31:47 at an airport a while back it could have been
2:31:50 on your stream Jane or it could have been on mine
2:31:51 where we were at an airport where they had
2:31:54 on the wind sock on the ground they had painted in white
2:31:59 a funny symbol and it was actually telling us that if
2:32:02 you're taking off this way it's left hand if you're
2:32:04 taking off that way it's right hand we didn't know
2:32:05 what it was at the time it was pretty cool it
2:32:07 was right there on the wind sock it was kind
2:32:09 of neat yeah it is cool all right so Hazel I'm leaving
2:32:14 this one for Jane I got this I got you
2:32:19 got this you got this height yes attitude nope dang it
2:32:27 altitude no oh man it might be something to do
2:32:32 with where we are area right on that's it you won't forget
2:32:37 it now I'm gonna ask you next week I said
2:32:39 that earlier though I'm not gonna forget this height area security
2:32:44 engine look look out you got it yeah look at you
2:32:47 you're getting it that's cool and next week you I'll have
2:32:50 you say it again and I'll actually have you do
2:32:53 it next time cuz now you know how to turn right
2:32:55 and we'll have you do it that's cool way to go
2:32:57 and that's that's just an easy way to remember it
2:33:00 you guys right that's what it is yeaha all right
2:33:04 that is all I have to say what about the rest
2:33:07 of you can we change it back to the uh
2:33:10 the two screen the two of us on the screen Jane sure
2:33:13 back to there like right there we'll put it I
2:33:16 recovered yes finish up oh my goodness so everybody okay what
2:33:22 did you think of that is that something valuable is it
2:33:24 something you'd like to see continue here on the stream then
2:33:26 Jane will certainly make that decision and we can go
2:33:28 forward we C we have planned one more right one more
2:33:32 next week one more next Wednesday same time and uh it'll
2:33:35 be lesson number two from the aeronautical ma manual it actually
2:33:38 covers a few exercises but she'll be doing more
2:33:40 of the same of what we did today and and some extra
2:33:43 skills and we'll reveal that next week when you see it
2:33:46 and then we'll uh as I mentioned we'll take a break
2:33:48 and we'll see what kind of feedback you get
2:33:50 and and Jan will decide whether we continue on in January
2:33:53 and whether this is something you guys will useful and guys
2:33:56 if you if you do want to send feedback on what
2:33:59 you thought of us doing this um best way to do
2:34:03 it would be to DM me in the flight Sim
2:34:05 forums my username is jimana you could probably find it pretty
2:34:09 easily so just shoot me a DM and I appreciate it
2:34:13 well and um I did have one uh question uh about
2:34:18 the Cannonball Run so maybe we should just mention that because
2:34:20 it's a big exciting thing that we I'm getting bombarded
2:34:22 with all kinds of questions about it so maybe we should
2:34:25 just tell people when it is and also about the fact
2:34:28 that I've got a a preparation session tomorrow where we
2:34:30 can do a lot of Q&A about what's going
2:34:32 on with that right on my stream tomorrow and it's an important thing
2:34:37 and it's a it's an exciting thing right to do
2:34:39 this Cannonball Run it's on the December the 26th it's organized
2:34:43 by CDL and CDL if you want to put a link
2:34:46 or put some description or comment some more on that it's
2:34:49 got quite a lot of interest and it's actually generated
2:34:52 a lot of a lot of discussion so it's actually it's
2:34:55 it's exciting and and it's fun some of us have done
2:34:58 the Run already in different planes so we're going to talk
2:35:01 about that tomorrow night in my preparation session I was
2:35:04 like how did that work out that autopilot right into terrain
2:35:08 how did that work so that's going to be a fun
2:35:11 thing we can do that's awesome yeah everybody follow for learn
2:35:15 toly on Twitch and uh super informative stuff supporter so
2:35:20 thank you you're welcome it was a pleasure you guys I
2:35:23 hope it wasn't too tedious it really is like
2:35:25 that in real flying and I was trying to give you guys
2:35:28 a sense of the realism of learning to fly this is
2:35:30 what really happens and it's only one or two skills
2:35:33 at a time we don't bombard you with everything right
2:35:36 I'm hoping that that's that's what came through loud and clear
2:35:38 on this stream today yes and um thank you also
2:35:42 to the uh other participants and for answering questions I didn't know
2:35:46 yeah they're just hanging in there they're supporting you Jane it
2:35:49 was nice that's what students do that was cool and uh
2:35:53 it'd be nice if they come back with us next
2:35:55 week too and help you out while you're learning a new
2:35:57 skill next week right if they could make it that'd be
2:35:59 great so I appreciate you guys joining in that was nice
2:36:02 on voice and the comments in chat too and the and the experienced
2:36:06 pilots who helped out with some of those questions
2:36:08 too that's always nice such a collaborative effort it's cool
2:36:11 definitely would love to be part of this again next
2:36:15 week oh that's great yeah sounds good then that's great
2:36:18 to hear Do It that'd be great so we will see
2:36:22 you guys for this particular show next Wednesday same time um
2:36:27 2200 Zulu time and next stream on this channel though is
2:36:31 this Friday we have a guided tour uh in New
2:36:34 Zealand so that's G be really fun everybody's welcome to join
2:36:37 that flight there will be a voice channel in Discord um
2:36:40 multiplayer will be open so come fly with us on Friday
2:36:44 at 2000 I think Zulu time so thank you guys
