1:05 trying to get up using that guard of his cub's still

1:13 working on that guillotine and pretty much if he's not

1:15 able to get it he needs to let go for it.

1:17 He's wasting too much strength on it.

1:18 He needs to move on to something else if it doesn't work.

1:21 But he feels he does have it.

1:28 doing a good job still going for that submission.

17:30 Scrambling hard to get out from under there.

17:39 He's riding the Areola right now.

17:49 Let's go.

17:54 Work.

17:54 Come on.

18:00 Cub right now giving up the full back position to kind of side position.

18:05 Some good strikes now.

18:07 Really needs to move out from under a very good position right now.

18:14 K just riding this position out landing some decent four strikes.

18:26 People is looking really close at this fight right now.

18:29 Looking at possible stops.

18:31 It just keeps up like this.

18:41 Position C.

18:42 Keep the position.

18:50 Come on, Co.

18:51 Good job.

18:57 Keep in this position right now.

18:58 He's really riding this side right there.

19:03 Fernando is bleeding now.

19:04 I cannot tell where he was bleeding.

19:06 Cut or know.

19:09 Stay on him.

19:12 Back to their feet they go.

19:14 Fernando really trying for that take down.

19:20 Swanson very calm.

19:22 He's doing everything.

19:23 He's doing the right things right now.

19:25 on commando against the cage.

19:28 It looks like striking good swinging from handle diving for an ankle take down

19:43 and a big right hand by Ke and it is over.

19:48 He gives up.

19:49 He has had enough.

19:56 Good job, Co Johnson.

20:23 Ladies and gentlemen,

20:24 after 3 minutes 21 seconds of the first round, your winner.

20:33 There you have it.

20:33 The Eric Carlson disciple victorious here tonight.

20:38 Hey, here we go.

20:39 Swanson takes on Valencia.

20:42 Fasten her seat belt, guys.

20:43 This one's going to be exciting.

20:47 You can see the reach advantage obviously goes to Cub Swanson.

20:52 I

20:52 think Charlie really wants to have to going to try and take this to the ground.

20:58 Cub is a a very good striker.

21:00 Great face kick, high kick from Cub Swanson.

21:04 And right away going for a submission.

21:06 And Charlie going for the taked down.

21:10 Charlie's right where he wants to be.

21:12 But Cub is also up against the fence so

21:13 he can use that fence to help himself get up.

21:16 Big slam by Charlie Valencia.

21:19 Nothing new from Charlie.

21:20 He always slams his opponents.

21:25 Never really see Cub Swanson in this position.

21:27 He's always the dominant one.

21:29 And Charlie Valencia obviously slamming him to the mat tonight.

21:33 Charlie's such a great wrestler.

21:35 Look at the control and the patience.

21:37 He just passes the guard, makes it look easy.

21:41 But you notice how wiry Cub is.

21:46 Look at this defense.

21:48 That That's a That's a tight choke.

21:51 Wow.

21:52 Eats a knee and a punch to the face.

22:01 Oh, nice leg kick.

22:04 You were right about uh Cub being the better striker.

22:07 Absolutely.

22:07 It's like just the advantage alone and if Charlie really needs to get in there.

22:12 Wow.

22:12 Now, if that leg would have hit his face, it would have been an illegal kick.

22:16 Yeah, that was that was close.

22:21 And your adrenaline's pouring in.

22:22 Your adrenaline's going.

22:23 It's It's hard to control the striking.

22:25 It's you could see Cubs Wson breaking a huge sweat right now.

22:29 Is that sweat or is that rain, Steve?

22:31 You know, it sort of look like sweat to me.

22:35 Maybe it's both.

22:38 It's sweating.

22:39 It's raining at Saboba Casino in Santo, California.

22:43 It's raining punches.

22:44 We don't want it to rain though in this match because

22:46 we really want to know who is going to take this.

22:49 I got to say Cub Swanson is greater with his stand up.

22:53 Charlie Valencia obviously wants to take

22:55 this to the ground and I'm sure he knows that

22:57 right now.

22:58 Uh Charlie's in a a little bit of trouble.

23:01 Oh no.

23:02 Popped his head out

23:08 and Cub is so hard to hold down.

23:09 You see how he just keeps popping up and that that the confidence

23:14 and it's got to wear you out when you when a guy keeps standing up.

23:18 Now I don't know who the blood is coming from.

23:19 I believe it's probably Cub Swanson.

23:21 He has suffered a couple hits.

23:28 Yeah, it might be coming from his his nose, I believe.

23:32 It was probably from that knee earlier.

23:34 Oh, and he's he doesn't want to eat another knee to the face.

23:38 Oh, good.

23:39 Nice block.

23:39 Just keep your hand in front of the face there.

23:43 Absolutely.

23:43 Cub Swanson back where he wants to be.

23:45 Charlie Valencia not where he wants to be.

23:48 Oh man, he's just he's unloading with some

23:51 big punches and some kick some good kicks there.

23:53 And you can see the confidence grow with Cub Swanson.

23:55 He knows that with this stand up,

23:57 he's got a chance to knock Charlie Valencia out,

23:59 but when it gets to the ground, it starts to slow down.

24:02 And he's really taking advantage of this nice uppercut.

24:07 Oh, and Cub with the taked down.

24:11 Not quite taked down, but he has top position.

24:13 I'm very impressed by Charlie Valencia being able to

24:17 make Cub Swanson bleed so early.

24:18 You never really see Cub Swanson bleed that quick.

24:26 It's going to be interesting.

24:28 Great scramble, great fight so far.

24:32 Once again, we want to thank our sponsors for tonight.

24:34 Rockstar Energy Drinks.

24:36 Thanking the people over here at Soba Casino in Saninto,

24:39 California for hosting King of the Cage tonight.

24:42 Charlie Valencia taking on Cub Swanson.

24:45 Might as well be a title fight tonight between these two guys.

24:48 This This could definitely be a title fight, Steve.

24:50 These guys are warriors.

24:56 None of these guys will quit.

25:01 Cub Swanson's the type of guy who's really in touch with his fans.

25:04 Um, you always see him on the forums, mixed martial arts, uh,

25:08 forums, talking to people and telling them to come watch his next fight.

25:14 And Charlie's just is is a very humble guy.

25:18 Wow.

25:21 Amazing.

25:23 Oh, that was close.

25:24 Now, that was to the body, so it wasn't illegal.

25:28 Wow.

25:28 Cub Swanson dominates and defeats Charlie Valencia.

25:33 Did not expect that to happen.

25:35 It was so quick.

25:35 I didn't know that was going to happen.

25:37 Who the points could have went to.

25:38 That's a huge win right here.

25:40 Huge win for

25:41 that took him out right there.

25:42 Oh, that was the one that that that probably knocked the win out of him.

25:45 And he had nothing to do but crawl in his space

25:47 and defend himself and that's all he could do

25:49 in the field position there and Cub just finishes him off.

25:53 Cub Swanson defeats Charlie Valencia here at King of the Cage.

25:57 Booyah.

25:58 50 seconds of the first round.

26:00 New winner, Cub Swansa.

26:09 There you go.

26:10 Cub Swanson for Valencia.

26:15 Well, both men come in with impressive records.

26:17 Tommy Lee 19 and five.

26:19 Cub Swanson 9 and1.

26:21 Both making their WC debut.

26:23 Tommy Lee at 30.

26:24 Cup Swanson at 23.

26:26 Even on the reach, we go inside

26:28 the cage to Joe Martinez for the official introductions.

26:32 And here we go, ladies and gentlemen.

26:34 Time for freestyle action.

26:36 Fatherweight division three round schedule.

26:39 Introducing to you first, fighting out of the blue corner is a shoot.

26:43 Standing 5' 7 in tall, he weighed in at a solid and ready 145 lbs even.

26:51 As a professional, he brings an outstanding record to the cage.

26:54 nine victories with just one blemish and tonight

26:57 makes his WC debut hailing from Orange County, California.

27:04 Here is Coa.

27:13 His opponent across the cage fighting out of the ring

27:16 is a freestyle fighter standing 5' 8 in tall.

27:19 He weighed in 144 ready.

27:23 a veteran inside the cage.

27:24 He has 19 victories to his credit, just five defeats,

27:28 and also makes his WC debut tonight from Tinley Park, Illinois.

27:35 Here is Tommy Lee.

27:42 Your referee in charge of the action, Steve Mazagetti.

27:48 All right, guys.

27:48 You know the rules.

27:49 We all expect a good, clean, fair, action-packed fight.

27:52 You need to listen up and obey my commands.

27:54 Protect yourself at all times.

27:56 Let's hook them up.

27:57 Come out ready to fight.

28:00 So, it's featherweight action.

28:01 Three rounds.

28:02 Each round five minutes long.

28:04 We are set to go.

28:05 Tommy Lee and Cub Swanson.

28:09 All right, guys.

28:10 Bring it on.

28:16 I don't know, Frank.

28:17 You put two featherweights that are as motivated as these two guys.

28:19 I don't see any chance this goes the full distance.

28:22 No.

28:22 You know, both guys feel a little bit better grappling as their their base.

28:26 But, uh, it looks like, you know what, sometimes go ahead and try to see

28:30 what they can throw leatherwise and move around.

28:34 Cubs going a little more of the kick, the switch step.

28:38 Tommy Lee kind of landed a decent right hand there over the top.

28:40 So, he's not really He's cocking his right hand a little bit for it.

28:45 See if he throws it again.

28:47 Neither guy really feeling out with the jab.

28:48 Oh, nice.

28:49 See how there

28:51 that shot he didn't spraw because he faked the shot.

28:53 He threw something in his opponent's eyes.

28:55 Went down for the shot.

28:57 Now he's just working a head inside single.

28:59 His head's on the mat.

28:59 He's got to come around the corner.

29:01 See if he can do it.

29:02 He got to spear the foot.

29:04 Cub doing a great job of putting into a front headlock position.

29:09 Gray squaring his hips up.

29:16 Got to get his hips back out.

29:17 He's doing better right there.

29:19 Tommy Lee did a good job.

29:20 He's driving through.

29:21 His hands are connected right now.

29:22 That's an easy rip.

29:22 Oh, now we got a slam.

29:24 But he's stuck in a guillotine.

29:26 Does he want to slam him?

29:27 See?

29:28 Oh.

29:29 Uhoh.

29:30 He's got him.

29:30 He's in a tight choke.

29:33 Should he have gone ahead and slammed him there?

29:35 No.

29:35 The guy puts you over the top.

29:37 You go to slam it.

29:38 He almost attempted to do it.

29:39 You just don't want to go down the mat, too.

29:41 got out of there.

29:42 But, you know, they that was a risky maneuver.

29:46 I wouldn't have, you know, necessarily if you go to slam your opponent,

29:49 you got to keep your hips up so he kind of slides off your body.

29:55 Tommy Lee in the white trunks.

29:56 Cub Swanson in the camo on the bottom right now.

30:00 You know, and that was actually a great maneuver from Cub.

30:02 You know, he he was able to keep from being slammed hard.

30:04 He put the thread of guillotine on there.

30:06 Now he's going good for a good butterfly guard.

30:08 He had his foot on his hip.

30:09 see if he's going to do a standing switch.

30:17 Tommy did a good job now driving back flat, but the guard's open.

30:20 He has to try to keep it open.

30:25 Need to do something to try to pass.

30:26 Right now, the position, he's just stalling.

30:29 He's going to get swept there.

30:31 See how he's just basing out right now?

30:32 He's not improving his position.

30:34 He's not doing anything to win the fight right here.

30:35 There you go.

30:36 Referee Steve Mazagotti stands him up.

30:38 get stuck.

30:39 Another guillotine choke.

30:40 Nice.

30:41 That was beautiful.

30:42 Comes Swanson.

30:43 Put his foot in the hip.

30:44 Pulled his hips out to cause separation.

30:46 Sunk the choke in.

30:50 He looks like he's released it.

30:51 I see him maybe even going for a uh cervical.

30:54 See if he goes for the neck crank right here.

30:56 Uses it as instead of going for the choke,

30:58 using the left hand to scoop under the armpit.

31:00 That's us leverage to go ahead and pull the guy over the top.

31:03 You got Tommy Lee on top making his WEC debut with a record of 19 and five.

31:08 That is Cub Swanson right there.

31:10 Doing a great job on bottom.

31:11 He's sent another guillotine.

31:13 Oh.

31:14 Oh, this might be the guillotine.

31:16 Look how deep it is.

31:17 That's deep.

31:20 He could drive it.

31:20 Oh, Cub's doing a good job.

31:22 Got his He got his butt up.

31:24 It takes pressure off the neck.

31:25 That's momentary.

31:27 That's it.

31:28 He taps out.

31:29 Tommy Lee has enough.

31:31 Taps out.

31:31 Cubs Swanson, your winner.

31:34 Great choke, Tommy Lee.

31:37 You know what?

31:37 He got stuck on that choke about three times.

31:39 He should have identified that that was a go-to

31:41 move for Cub and kept his head up.

31:43 Is there anything Tommy Lee could have done when

31:45 you were talking about him getting his hips up,

31:47 getting some blood flowing there, or is it just a matter of time?

31:50 You know what?

31:50 He should have got his head down in the first place.

31:51 But yeah, there's some things you can do about getting your hips up,

31:53 pushing down on the elbow.

31:54 But you can see, and I'll see if I can get Cub

31:56 to go ahead Cub Swanson to go ahead to identify the choke he used.

32:01 He used a little bit of a variation.

32:02 He used more of a 10 finger type choke.

32:04 Everybody calls it different.

32:05 All right, let's go back earlier.

32:07 Here's where the potential body slam was.

32:09 And Tommy Lee did not go through with it.

32:11 No, Tommy Lee did a great job of pushing off, using the cage to trap the feet.

32:15 Look, he got hands locked together,

32:16 but then Cub Swanson hooked up the guillotine right there.

32:20 Tommy Lee right there.

32:21 That was kind of a bad maneuver to slam him down.

32:25 And here's the end of the fight.

32:26 Oh, just a tight guillotine choke.

32:28 You know, Tommy Lee did try to get his hips up, put it down.

32:30 But you know what?

32:31 Sometimes a move when it's that deep, there's no getting out besides tapping.

32:36 So, your winner, Cub Swanson.

32:47 Let's go down to Joe Martinez for the official decision.

32:51 Ladies and gentlemen, 3 minutes 17 seconds into round number one.

33:00 Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen,

33:02 3 minutes 17 seconds of round number one.

33:05 Your winner by guillotine choke submission in his WAC debut,

33:12 Orange County's Co Swanson.

33:23 Here with your winner, everybody.

33:24 Cup Swanson.

33:24 Uh, a little variation on that guillotine choke the second time through.

33:27 What did you Is that a move you do on your own or?

33:29 Uh yeah.

33:30 Um I hit him from everywhere.

33:32 Uh I really wanted to bang and stuff,

33:33 but he was strong and he wasn't letting me up.

33:36 So I just kept going for chokes.

33:39 The fight right here.

33:43 I knew he wasn't going anywhere cuz I I was

33:46 pushing and pulling with both of my legs right there.

33:48 It was sunk in.

33:49 Uh you don't have to have a closed guard to get

33:51 it as long as you got good jiu-jitsu, you know.

33:54 Yeah, it was excellent maneuver there.

33:55 You're a winner.

33:56 Cubs want Swanson.

34:07 And here we go, ladies and gentlemen.

34:08 Three rounds scheduled.

34:09 This in the featherweight division.

34:11 Introducing to you first, fighting out of the blue corner.

34:13 He is a freestyle fighter standing 5' 6 in tall.

34:16 His official weight 145 lbs.

34:19 Professional record five victories with one defeat.

34:22 And joining us tonight from Courtland, New York.

34:25 Please welcome John Frenchie.

34:31 Next, his opponent across the cage fighting out of the red corner.

34:34 A Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner standing 5' 7 in tall.

34:38 His official weight 146 lbs.

34:41 Professional record outstanding with 13 victories and three defeats.

34:45 Joining us from Orange County, California, here is Cub Swanson.

34:54 Referee in charge of the action, Herb Dean.

34:58 All right, gentlemen.

34:59 We've been over the rules.

35:00 Protect yourself at all times.

35:02 Follow my instructions.

35:03 We're going to have a clean fight.

35:04 Touch gloves.

35:05 Make it official.

35:09 This should be explosive.

35:11 In the featherweight division, Cub Swanson and John Franchie.

35:23 You ready to fight?

35:25 Ready.

35:25 Let's do it.

35:34 This is the first time we're seeing Cub Swanson

35:36 back inside the cage since his fight against José Aldo,

35:38 which only lasted 8 seconds and took several

35:41 stitches to close that wicked gash over his eye.

35:43 and he's told me he is so hungry to get back in here.

35:46 I think he's just as hungry to get a win.

35:48 That was a shame in that fight.

35:49 I mean, obviously Jose Aldo fan, you know, looked very phenomenal.

35:53 The only problem was is, you know, it being so short like that.

35:55 I would have liked to have seen that fight go some distance.

35:58 I feel Cub Swanson is a very good uh mixed martial artist,

36:02 great hands, great submissions.

36:05 Beautiful.

36:05 Good speed from both fighters.

36:06 John France packing a lot of punch in that left there.

36:10 where he caught him with a left hook,

36:11 pushed off going to the body after nailing a knee right up the middle.

36:23 And again, you know, just going back to what we said earlier tonight,

36:27 everybody comes at a Greg Jackson's team.

36:28 It's almost like a bad thing if you know you're

36:30 fighting an opponent and you see Greg Jackson as a trainer,

36:33 you know you're in for a long night.

36:34 They can be well prepared, well conditioned.

36:36 You know the guy has a ton of training partners.

36:39 go with.

36:39 Oh, great take on Mike Fr's part, but Cub Swans is a great guillotine.

36:44 Franchie exposing the neck.

36:46 He's on the right side.

36:47 Actually, Cub's still being tenacious about going for it.

36:49 He's controlling the chin.

36:51 Frenchie was able to uh go ahead and get his head out of that uh issue.

37:06 Swanson is just so athletic.

37:07 Yeah, I thought it was very impressive that he

37:09 was able to get up the way he was.

37:10 Mike Frenchie holding his leg up.

37:13 Again, I mean, you could train all you want.

37:14 There's certain athletic abilities that if you're not born with them,

37:17 there's there's nothing you can do to make up for it.

37:19 And that Cub Swanson, that was great.

37:21 That was a combination of training and just uh thanking mom and dad.

37:24 Cub Swanson, a very legitimate soccer player at the collegiate level,

37:29 decided to concentrate primarily on MMA.

37:34 Swanson bringing a record of 13 and three into the cage.

37:38 Five and one for Franchie.

37:45 Cub's doing a good job of blocking the knees.

37:47 But I see what he's doing there with the shin.

37:49 It it gives away the taked down a little bit.

37:51 But see, then you use that to compensate

37:52 knowing your opponent's going to go down

37:53 for it to go on and to get on his neck with the guillotine there.

37:56 But at the same time,

37:57 by putting the foot in between the legs like that and pushing up,

38:00 you really make it hard for your opponent to drive

38:01 knees into you because the leg that you're on can't knee.

38:04 And it's hard to really get a hard knee off if you can't drive your hips in.

38:07 Just lifting the knee up, you're only using your hip flexor.

38:10 It's not really a, you know, devastating shot.

38:13 Oh, that was a nice kind of upward elbow from uh

38:16 John French has a great left hook.

38:23 You can see him kind of setting it up there by swinging out to his left,

38:26 swinging out, he's loading it, loading it, loading it.

38:29 That way, when he does load it for real,

38:30 it's kind of hard to tell whether that's just part of his natural

38:33 uh movement or if he's actually coming in with the strike.

38:37 Cub's showing all kinds of different variations on his stance, rocking the hips.

38:41 And John Franchie says, "I'll just bull rush it."

38:45 Oh, the big knee comes up high and catches Franchie.

38:49 Cub Swanson showing his athletic ability as John

38:52 Frangie has Cub up against the cage.

38:54 That's the best shot I've seen a lot of of any MMA doing right now.

38:57 A lot of guys will swing the leg up like that.

38:59 It typically doesn't ever really catch anybody with any kind of threat,

39:02 but I heard that from here that that actually had a little bit on it.

39:05 That hurt.

39:06 Come on.

39:06 One thing we can tell you, Cub Swanson, fitness will not be an issue

39:11 as we go under 90 seconds.

39:13 I don't know.

39:14 Nice.

39:14 Beautiful elbow or excuse me, knee.

39:17 I think Cubs add that into the game.

39:18 I never really remember him having such

39:19 a great flexibility and range with the knees

39:25 and it's really throwing Frenchie off.

39:27 Uh that is very, you know, disheartening.

39:29 You sit there and you get into a clinch with somebody.

39:30 It's kind of a bad habit, but you can do it in wrestling.

39:32 You can sag your your chin over the guy's shoulder.

39:35 But here, uh Cubs making him pay for it every

39:37 time by bringing that knee right up into his face.

39:39 Oh, here it's coming again big time.

39:42 Oh yeah, he set it up.

39:44 Branchie comes out throwing a combination.

39:47 That could have been a lot uglier than what it ended up being.

39:49 Frenchie actually kind of did a good job of pushing off

39:51 at the right time because Cub had his face pinned against the cage.

39:55 He was going to come up hard with that left knee.

39:58 Under 30 seconds to go here in round number one.

40:00 This one scheduled for three.

40:01 John Franchie in the black trunks.

40:03 Cub Swanson in the red trunks.

40:07 And this is why I said earlier I really Oh,

40:10 I don't know what it was, but it was cool.

40:12 Real kick, but Francie comes back with a beautiful straight right.

40:16 And Cub Swanson with the judo toss.

40:17 And now he goes to the mount.

40:19 He has a shoulder lock.

40:20 Oh, it looked like he was thinking about going for the motor.

40:24 Wow.

40:25 Cop Swanson smells blood and this shuts it down at the end of round one.

40:30 What a flurry to end round number one.

40:40 Hey, so why couldn't the tree solve the math problem?

40:44 He was stumped.

40:45 Wow.

40:48 Well, we promised you action, Frank.

40:49 Here it is.

40:50 Round number one.

40:50 Here comes the left knee right off the top.

40:52 He did it again.

40:53 Snapped it.

40:53 The second one, I think, was identified by John French here.

40:56 He's almost like I don't know what that it was like a cartwheel kick,

40:59 but he got caught with a right hand there.

41:01 Came back, recovered.

41:02 Nice little uh headlock throw there.

41:05 Here he looked like he was going for the shoulder pushing up.

41:07 But John Fry did a good job of getting

41:08 back into the the half guard to the full guard.

41:11 And then Cub Swanson was just angry coming forward,

41:14 raining down with blows from the inside the guard.

41:19 Up at him, baby.

41:22 Well, get set.

41:22 Round number two set to begin.

41:30 So, here we go.

41:30 Round number two in the featherweight division.

41:32 Cub Swanson and John Franchie out of New York.

41:37 Yeah, I just got told uh Joe Silson next

41:38 to let me know that that was a Capoella kick.

41:40 However you pronounce that word, I didn't think anybody ever really did that.

41:45 Something in Joe Silva's arsenal.

41:50 Great action to end round number one.

41:51 Does it carry over to round two?

41:56 I'll give John Franchie credit.

41:57 Cub Swanson has shown him a lot of different attacks, lot of levels.

42:00 And Franchie continues to come forward and bring some power.

42:03 He was able to fake off.

42:04 He came forward with a blitzing type jab and came over with a right hand.

42:08 Good.

42:10 He was going to throw a spinning psychic there for a second.

42:19 It comes sometimes though cuz he is such

42:21 a great athlete and really a superb mixed martial artist.

42:24 He gets a little cute with his hands at times, you know,

42:27 moving him around a little too much at times where he could leave himself open.

42:31 I'd hate to see that him being so effective

42:33 and so on game giving up an easy shot

42:35 to John Frenchie where he just happened to have

42:37 his hands at the at a very casual position.

42:39 And is that a case of Cub Swanson is

42:41 just so that confident in his speed and ability?

42:43 Well, there's and that is good to be

42:45 confident but at times it could be a deficit.

42:48 You have to everything in life's a balance, right?

42:51 Cub Swanson comes back with a kick stun momentarily.

42:54 his confidence allowing him to be loose and quick and and offensive,

42:58 but you don't want to be so confident that you fall asleep

43:00 on your opponent and uh don't respect that at any moment with these gloves,

43:04 anybody can get put out.

43:05 Remember, John Frenchie comes in with a very impressive record of five and one.

43:09 Four of those five wins coming by way of stoppage.

43:22 Wow, that was a beautiful left hook to the body.

43:25 Super hard right kick.

43:26 Big left sham.

43:27 And again comes Swanson.

43:30 Oh, he blocked off the take down there for a second.

43:32 That's amazing that he just did what he did.

43:34 He came in with an inside tie,

43:36 but you can't really do that when the other guy has your leg up in the air.

43:38 Well, I say you can't do it, but you shouldn't be able to.

43:40 Cub Swanson just did it.

43:42 You've said this before, that was very Matrix-like.

43:46 Cub Swanson came in with a flurry.

43:47 John Franchie able to stay on his feet

43:49 as we go under 245 here in round number two.

43:52 This one scheduled for three.

43:54 That was a very powerful maneuver right there.

43:56 He had great he had him in a body lock and lifted him over the top.

43:59 And again, Cub Swans's athletic ability and his training

44:01 allowed him to land on his feet,

44:02 not give up a big taked down.

44:05 His balance and stance, his base is so strong.

44:08 Yeah, there's a lot of the positions he's doing right now here.

44:10 that you wouldn't be able to really have

44:12 a lot of other individuals in the training camp do.

44:15 Not that it's wrong,

44:16 it's just that it takes a high level athletic ability to pull off.

44:20 Again, see how he has his left leg up in the air

44:22 and he's going to stand up with his right leg.

44:23 That's next to impossible for most guys to do.

44:28 Usually, you know, I mean, if you have a guy pinned against the cage,

44:30 if you pull one foot up,

44:32 pretty much everybody I know in the world can't get up.

44:35 Here he's hitting a switch.

44:37 Looks like he's actually going to get it and take the back of John French.

44:41 Oh, John French with great hips in there.

44:43 Drove the hips forward.

44:45 Cub dropped his head.

44:46 Franchie trying to sink in a guillotine.

44:47 Now he'll bring up some knees.

44:58 Is Cup smiling?

44:59 Yeah.

44:59 You know what?

45:00 This is a guy who enjoys his job.

45:07 River stiff jab was able to slip over the top underneath the kick.

45:26 Big John Frenchie too on his Oh,

45:28 straight left just splits the defense of Franchie

45:30 and then a big kick from Swanson.

45:32 He is attacking Frank from every level.

45:39 Spinning back kick.

45:39 Franchie, this is what he's got to do if he wants to keep Cubs.

45:44 Stop.

45:44 Stop the smiling.

45:46 I think it made him smile more.

45:51 How demoralizing is that?

45:52 When you hit someone with a nice move like that and he just smiles.

45:56 Not that it's ever happened to you.

46:00 up.

46:03 Cubs got some nice double leg locked up there.

46:05 Had his hands locked below the hips.

46:07 This is part of Cub's game we haven't seen so far in this fight.

46:10 Very accomplished on the ground as we go under 30 seconds.

46:14 Cub swans as dangerous he is with a strike

46:16 and really is a great submission artist, too.

46:21 I think this is the Cub Swanson that we all

46:23 thought we'd see in Sacramento when he faced Joseé Aldo.

46:25 Well, we never had the opportunity.

46:27 Someone gets caught in 8 seconds.

46:28 I mean, not taking any away from José Aldo.

46:30 I mean, the guys, no, the Capoella kick to a jumping up overhand left.

46:34 Um Oh, and that's it.

46:37 Round number two comes to a conclusion.

46:39 We will see a third and final round.

46:45 John, look at me.

46:46 Sit out.

46:47 I don't know what you're waiting for, but

46:48 Well, if you thought round number one was good,

46:50 round number two might have been better.

46:52 I need a legendary story.

46:53 You hit him with Here again, the nice roundhouse.

46:58 I mean, he put everything behind that.

46:59 Came up off his feet.

47:00 That's almost I mean, you only really see that in Thailand.

47:02 Here, the left kick pushing off.

47:04 Jumped right into that.

47:05 He came a little off to the side on that one, but that's Shin.

47:08 That's a hard shot.

47:09 That could break your forearm.

47:10 Here he comes again.

47:11 He offshot doing a scoop uh lead uppercut and then just flurry off.

47:15 And after that, he actually threw a nice low roundhouse.

47:18 You need to attack.

47:19 You need to go in there and establish your offense.

47:22 No, no more counteratt attacking.

47:23 You establish your offense.

47:25 All right.

47:27 Good.

47:34 So, this is it.

47:35 The third and final round.

47:42 Do it.

47:44 Franchie and Swanson.

47:46 Mutual respect and a great show through two rounds.

47:50 It's definitely been an exciting fight going, you know, all over the place.

48:03 Nice flurry from

48:04 Yeah, John French, great combination.

48:06 Well, his corner told him during that break,

48:08 you got to bring the offense to him.

48:10 No more countering.

48:11 I have to agree because he needs to score some points.

48:14 But to, you know, to Frenchie's defense really right now,

48:16 Cub Swanson is doing so many things with his movement,

48:19 his footwork, it's kind of almost like making him

48:21 hesitate just because you don't really see where he's at.

48:25 Well,

48:25 Cub Swanson certainly taking him out of his comfort zone.

48:28 You don't really see a lot of guys,

48:29 I'm sure John Franchie hasn't seen a lot of guys

48:31 in his gym who have this kind of movement on their feet.

48:37 Cub Swanson in the red trunks, John Franchie in the black trunks.

48:43 This is the third and final round in the featherweight division.

48:47 And Frank, as you look to the featherweight division, the WC,

48:50 it may be and the big knee comes up again.

48:52 It may be one of the deepest divisions in all of MMA.

48:54 Yeah, featherweight and banterweight here in the WC really

48:58 is is unbelievably deep.

49:00 You know, you have to put such a string of win

49:03 and vic victories together to get into a title shot.

49:06 And if you don't, you come up short in that title shot.

49:09 The Oh, nice.

49:10 And oh, what a beautiful head and arm.

49:14 What a toss by Swanson.

49:20 So the closed guard now is Francis Fred

49:22 as Cub Swanson just plowed right through it.

49:24 That was a beautiful high elevating toss.

49:27 Threw him over and I think Cub right now is just establishing uh

49:31 you know points in this fight by getting down inside the guard right now.

49:49 Go.

49:49 French is working on the left arm of Cub Swanson.

49:52 Cub was able to pull right out.

49:54 Looks like he's going for the pass.

49:57 Really being heavy in the hips there.

49:59 Frenchie needs to go ahead and push with his feet.

50:00 He could push him off and not eat that kind of leather.

50:06 Cub just see has no regard for Franchie's upk kicks stepping right through

50:11 that was uh he sat there and he blocked it with the uh his shin

50:16 pass just like we practiced Swanson I want to knock out let's go right there

50:22 this corner continues to send some unorthodox verbage his way

50:28 he has now the right arm in a little bit of trouble

50:31 but he got his head on the right side now for to be able to block it his work.

50:44 Here comes Swanson.

50:45 Yeah, French is doing a lot of good

50:47 things from the bottom controlling the wrist,

50:48 but Cubs just was able to posture up

50:50 without any control of the head right there.

50:52 And right now, you know, the punch is coming down.

50:54 Oh, big up kick though that time from Franchie.

50:56 Caught Swanson.

51:02 Now he's controlling left wrist, left heel, excuse me.

51:05 And Swanson now steps right through again.

51:09 There we go.

51:13 John Franchie doing a great job out of the closed guard,

51:15 but he's unable to control Cub from posturing up.

51:18 And that's where the trouble's coming from.

51:19 Well, you know, he's doing a good job right here.

51:20 See how he controls the head.

51:22 What happens is is Cub's able to release the head

51:24 on his own or when excuse me when French is going

51:27 for the uh for the shoulder is when Cubs see he's

51:30 standing up inside his guard like this without his head being controlled.

51:35 Oh, Frenchie gets up quickly but gets a stiff right hand.

51:39 Yeah, Frenchie going counter with a good left hook.

51:41 Very powerful punch.

51:42 If Frenchie is He's not out of this fight at all.

51:45 Under a minute to go in the third and final round.

51:47 Cub Swanson continues to throw his arsenal at John Franchie.

51:54 Frenchie now you see Frenchie he's very

51:57 strong featherweight very well you know very

52:00 filled out for this weight division there's going to be a very bad spot

52:02 for him to be here against the cage like this doing a good job

52:05 using his hips come out the back door able to get the stand up

52:14 under 30 seconds to go in the third and final round

52:17 looks like he's locking up the guillotine again but John French's already

52:19 seen it he's got the hand in there trying to block it.

52:21 Going for the taked down, but got his head stuck in there a little bit.

52:31 You see?

52:31 Oh, he's down.

52:34 With 11 seconds to go, comes Swanson.

52:37 Gets a submission.

52:47 Co Swans is a great great dill.

52:50 And a class act as we go back and look at the finish of round number three.

52:55 Okay, here you see that he was using the leg again up.

52:57 John French was able to get the taked down,

52:58 but he took him down and this time Cub Swanson landed on his left hip and he

53:02 was able to really crank down on the guillotine

53:04 even though he has the arm in there.

53:05 I think he felt that he had the forearm completely

53:07 in on the throat and at this point John Frenchy couldn't

53:10 get his head out or get his weight down

53:12 in to block the choke and it was forced to tap out.

53:16 Oh yeah.

53:17 Yeah.

53:17 Both hands are busted.

53:23 start.

53:30 We now go inside the cage.

53:31 Joe Martinez has the official decision.

53:35 Ladies and gentlemen, the end comes 4 minutes 50 seconds of round number three.

53:39 Submission by guillotine choke for your winner from Orange County,

53:43 California, Cub Swanson.

53:51 So, Cub Swanson gets the victory by way

53:53 of submission and runs his record to 14 and three.

53:57 You got to go as the beautiful Britney helps us get things started.

54:05 Ariani Shawn, our entire crew excited to be here at United Center.

54:10 Cub Swanson looks very determined, very focused.

54:12 He said, "I do not like George RP and I would

54:15 love to knock him out." He's got to get past the reach,

54:19 the length, and the excellent striking of RP.

54:23 A lot in which was sharpened by the late Shawn Tommpkins.

54:27 And it was interesting because RP had a fight against

54:29 Mark Homminick in his career and they shared the same trainer.

54:33 RP stepped aside a bit and now he competes tonight against Cub Swanson.

54:38 But RP has really sharpened up his game since moving

54:42 to 145 and since his time on the Ultimate Fighter.

54:45 good use of the TE twice already and that's

54:48 those long legs that are keeping Swans in a distance.

54:51 Yeah.

54:51 And he used those long range legs to knock out Chen Sun

54:55 Jung the Korean zombie and really changed Jung's style because of that.

55:00 The first time Jung had ever been knocked

55:01 out like that and really made him realize

55:04 that that aggressive face forward style that he was

55:06 employing was really going to give him a short career.

55:10 George Ritt 61 looking

55:12 very solid early.

55:13 And it was the uppercut and loves those straight kicks.

55:16 He'll use the tep.

55:17 He'll also use the straight kicks.

55:19 Yeah, he likes that stepping left leg high kick as well.

55:22 Look for that.

55:25 The switch kick off the left.

55:26 He throws it there to the to the thigh, but he likes it to the head as well.

55:30 Came with the knee that time.

55:32 Swanson switching his stance back and forth early in this matchup.

55:35 Swanson is having a hard time getting in past those long limbs.

55:42 That is always the issue, you know,

55:44 when you're a striker and you're you're dealing with with reach.

55:47 It's almost like the guy has just this built-in advantage to hit you

55:52 and the built-in ability to to contact you when you can't get him.

55:56 It almost feels unfair while you're

55:58 And the greatest example of that is our light

56:00 heavyweight champion John Jones with that 84 1/2 in reach.

56:05 Cubs wants to go crazy there and try to wheel kick.

56:08 Cub would love to turn it into a brawl and the press

56:12 here and he is in the bottom of the right

56:15 group got tagged there staying in the pocket.

56:20 R did a good job countering there.

56:21 Staying in the pocket counter.

56:23 But one thing I'm not liking is his chin is straight up in the air.

56:26 Mike

56:30 Cub Swanson very aggressive with that last exchange.

56:39 Don't grab it.

56:40 eight fights in his WEC career and this his second time fighting in the UFC.

56:47 Nice comb kick to the body there by Rof.

56:51 A lot of emotions between these two guys.

56:53 Yeah, there was a little bit back and forth

56:55 as Jay Glazer mentioned pre-fight between Cup Swanson and George Rof.

57:01 And he finishes with the kick.

57:05 Swanson split his time between Greg Jackson

57:09 and Mike Winkl John's gym in Albuquerque,

57:11 New Mexico, and back home in Palm Springs at his own gym.

57:16 True MMA.

57:16 Nice shot again by

57:18 hand by Swanson.

57:19 Yeah, he's doing a good job of exploding and closing that distance.

57:26 So Swanson was in Albuquerque.

57:27 He was in Palm Springs.

57:28 And Ruth trained in Tucson, Arizona.

57:31 I think Swanson lost his mouthpiece.

57:34 Trying to stop the take down and get his own.

57:40 Beautiful into the guard.

57:41 Let's see if Big John Big.

57:43 Yeah, he picked up the mouthpiece.

57:47 Yeah.

57:47 So, he's going to look for a might be a good opportunity,

57:49 an advantageous time to reinsert it.

57:53 Trying to posture up his Swanson.

57:56 Cub is stacking in here.

57:59 He's going to let him up.

57:59 That's interesting.

58:00 I I did not expect that it's George.

58:07 Yeah.

58:07 Who's going to give it to Cubs?

58:08 Like I already have one.

58:09 It's in my mouth.

58:12 I don't want this thing in my mouth.

58:15 I have my own.

58:15 Thank you though, John.

58:18 That switch.

58:19 Yeah, you talked about it earlier, Joe.

58:20 Yep.

58:21 Nice lead left hook.

58:23 Keeps his really keeps his chin up high.

58:26 Like

58:28 Mark Homick was able to capitalize off that

58:31 and you know he gets away with it because he's so tall.

58:34 Bloodied up in the nose just a little bit

58:37 from maybe one of those hooks is George R.

58:43 He likes to throw that high kick as his opponents move away.

58:46 Mike the break of the exchange.

58:49 He's down again.

58:50 Oh, nice up kick.

58:51 Yeah, with those legs you have got to be careful about the up kick.

58:58 Powerful leg kicks here by Swanson.

59:01 Swanson looking for his first UFC victory.

59:04 I was really surprised that Swanson let RP up earlier.

59:08 10 seconds on the clock here in round one and a back

59:13 and forth round one between George RP and Cub Swanson.

59:21 Here comes Sit, George.

59:31 Sit, George.

59:38 Here.

59:38 George, listen.

59:39 That round was close.

59:41 Round is close.

59:41 They're busier on their feet, but those take down.

59:48 There's a beautiful hip toss by let go the punch a little more.

59:51 Huh?

59:51 Remember, don't don't try to get a little excited and drop your defense.

59:54 Okay?

59:55 Even if you're walking back, you got to keep your defense up forward and back.

59:58 Okay?

59:59 As soon as he steps in, let go punches, cup.

1:00:01 But remember, don't pull back.

1:00:02 Watch.

1:00:02 Hey, watch his kick.

1:00:03 Right?

1:00:04 Watch his kick.

1:00:04 Now, Cubby, you see everything coming.

1:00:07 Kick him.

1:00:07 Let's

1:00:07 go, baby.

1:00:08 Have fun.

1:00:09 Hands up.

1:00:10 Yeah.

1:00:10 Hey, let's they go the left one.

1:00:22 Here we go.

1:00:22 You ready?

1:00:23 You ready?

1:00:24 Get up.

1:00:24 Round two.

1:00:25 George RP said Cub is a very well-rounded and experienced fighter.

1:00:29 He has very good cardio, but I'm much better looking than him.

1:00:34 He'd like to be the better fighter.

1:00:36 That's the ultimate goal.

1:00:37 is leaving with his third UFC win.

1:00:49 Swanson doing a good job of countering the long legs and arms of RP so far.

1:00:55 Good leg kick by George RP.

1:00:58 Ruple will often times set up that leg kick with the hands,

1:01:00 but those were just kicks both which landed on the thigh of Cub Swanson.

1:01:06 Very goodeorge.

1:01:09 Very goodeorge.

1:01:11 Group on top of having a long reach has also has an awkward way of moving.

1:01:15 Very difficult to time.

1:01:20 There's a member of Frank Mir's team on season eight of the Ultimate Fighter.

1:01:25 That was a solid leg kick by CE trying to trip.

1:01:37 and get RP to the ground with Swanson there.

1:01:40 They battle for position.

1:01:42 Watch that hip toss.

1:01:43 Take down.

1:01:44 Nice knee by Swanson.

1:01:48 George.

1:01:49 There he goes.

1:01:51 Watch his hip toss, George.

1:01:52 Watch that.

1:01:54 They're warning RP to watch the hip toss of Swanson, but they break.

1:01:59 Good straight right to the body by Cub Swanson.

1:02:02 Cub's doing a real good job, Mike, of covering up.

1:02:06 blocking a lot of the shots that RP throws.

1:02:07 And there you see him doing that.

1:02:09 He's really sort of gotten a good gauge of RP's timing.

1:02:14 See that?

1:02:15 Covered up, blocked all those.

1:02:20 And we've seen Rof go to that combination many times.

1:02:22 He throws the hands followed by the kick.

1:02:26 Swanson tries to slip and rip to the body again.

1:02:34 that time with the left comes in very aggressive here.

1:02:39 Oh, trying to finish it right here.

1:02:41 Big right hand

1:02:46 and it is all over.

1:02:49 Cub Swanson

1:02:52 earns his first victory since November of 2010

1:02:56 and his first win inside the octagon.

1:03:00 And you see the emotion.

1:03:02 Yeah, he's very emotional and very excited and big relief for him.

1:03:06 Let's take a look at this giant right hand that started all off.

1:03:09 And this is one of the things that we were talking about,

1:03:11 Mike, that RP keeps his chin straight up in the air.

1:03:14 And you see it right here.

1:03:16 Straight up in the air, not tucked at all.

1:03:18 And Cub Swanson took his head off.

1:03:21 Let's look at it again here, Mike.

1:03:25 Brilliant picture perfect right hand over the top by Cub Swanson.

1:03:30 Cub Swanson earning the victory tonight.

1:03:33 His first inside the octagon.

1:04:02 __] man.

1:04:28 __] it up, baby.

1:04:36 Hey, good job.

1:05:18 UFC prelims on Fuel TV from Chicago, Illinois is sponsored by Bud Light.

1:05:26 It's the sure sign of a good time.

1:05:29 Here we go.

1:05:30 Swanson with the win.

1:05:32 with the official decision.

1:05:33 Here is Bruce Buffer.

1:05:36 Ladies and gentlemen, referee John McCarthy has called a stop to this contest

1:05:39 at 2 minutes 22 seconds of the second round.

1:05:43 Declaring the winner by TKO Swansson.

1:05:52 The assignment here.

1:05:53 Britney Palmer doing her thing outside the Octagon

1:05:56 as we get ready to bring the action inside.

1:05:58 Cub Swanson and Ross Pearson.

1:06:02 Are you ready, sir?

1:06:03 You ready?

1:06:06 And we are underway.

1:06:08 It is Pearson in the black bad boy trunks and Swanson wearing the blue.

1:06:14 The fight clock brought to you by Victory Motorcycles.

1:06:16 Ride one and you'll own one.

1:06:19 Pearson who used to fight at lightweight just looks huge out there

1:06:26 and uh definitely going to be looking

1:06:27 to use that size advantage against Swanson.

1:06:33 He may have the speed advantage,

1:06:34 but Pearson when he's on with his boxing looks as good as any striker out there.

1:06:41 And Swanson very technical in his own right.

1:06:43 He's a guy who at times has considered a pro boxing career.

1:06:46 does think he's got the technical edge here tonight.

1:06:49 Yeah, he's super fast.

1:06:53 Great variety in his striking, John.

1:06:54 And um right now trying to use that advantage.

1:07:00 And some really high level footwork as Swanson moves in there.

1:07:03 You'll see out of both guys here, Tom.

1:07:07 You know, Pearson likes to sit down on his punches.

1:07:09 He kind of will plot forward a little bit more flatfooted.

1:07:13 Swanson likes to get a nice little

1:07:14 bounce going and really showing some nice footwork.

1:07:20 Two different styles, but both very nice footwork.

1:07:27 Pearson gets hold of the body and slams Swanson down.

1:07:30 There's that power from Pearson using his size advantage

1:07:33 and Swanson just got a little bit too high.

1:07:36 Beautiful level change from Pearson to finish that power double.

1:07:42 And now Pearson looked there to potentially try to posture up.

1:07:45 And Swanson working his way off the cage and up.

1:07:49 Swanson did a great job of sitting up.

1:07:51 He used the fence to his advantage.

1:07:53 Got back to his feet.

1:07:55 Excellent get up from Cub Swanson.

1:08:01 Swanson at times has been frustrated with the progression of his MMA career.

1:08:04 Golden opportunity here tonight against Ross Pearson.

1:08:09 Big kick upstairs for Pearson.

1:08:12 Swanson has such good footwork.

1:08:14 He gets in, but he's kind of waiting around

1:08:17 on some of his strikes a little bit there.

1:08:20 He cut Pearson off balance and definitely rocked him with that shot.

1:08:25 And look at that little elbow from Cup Swanson.

1:08:29 Swanson has to be careful that he doesn't watch his work as soon as he

1:08:32 lands a shot that he doesn't hang out there for too long cuz Pearson can crack.

1:08:40 Pearson lands with a body shot there.

1:08:42 Tries the kick that Swanson's able to check with the right arm.

1:08:50 Really, right now, it's the speed of Swanson against the power of Pearson.

1:08:59 And very fast-paced early, just as we expected.

1:09:03 And that's what Pearson needs to do.

1:09:04 He needs to go back to getting in on those faints.

1:09:07 He's trying to time Pearson.

1:09:09 He just rocked him with a beautiful capera kick that landed right on the neck.

1:09:15 And somehow Pearson is still in his fight and he's on top.

1:09:19 Looked like it didn't even phase him.

1:09:21 Yeah, both of these guys exchanging power shots early.

1:09:26 Pearson just relentless on top.

1:09:27 And it was another up kick from Swanson as well.

1:09:29 and Pearson

1:09:32 like a juggernaut and just landed a big shot from the feet man.

1:09:51 When you see this kind of technique and this kind of speed, it's so impressive.

1:09:56 So great to see these featherweights go at it.

1:09:59 Very, very technical everywhere.

1:10:04 Excellent exchanges here.

1:10:08 Swanson just showing a little bit more variety.

1:10:11 More tricky with his striking.

1:10:14 Pearson looking for that power shot to take him out.

1:10:18 Trying to time Swanson as he comes in.

1:10:29 Swanson whiffs on the uppercut there.

1:10:30 It's Pearson grabbing a hold of that leg.

1:10:34 Pearson couldn't finish that high single.

1:10:35 Try to trip out that leg.

1:10:37 Unsuccessful.

1:10:38 But you could see that Pearson really has been working on his wrestling.

1:10:42 Hit a double leg earlier.

1:10:43 Had a nice high single.

1:10:44 Had a nice attempt at a high single,

1:10:48 but trying to make him that much more of a threat

1:10:52 and to keep his opponent guessing.

1:10:55 Great weight cut for Ross Pearson who

1:10:57 as you mentioned just enormous for the featherweight division.

1:11:00 Yeah, he looks huge.

1:11:11 Tonight's corner cam is brought to you by Direct TV.

1:11:13 If you call yourself a sports fan, you got to get Direct TV.

1:11:17 Deep breaths.

1:11:19 He's going single.

1:11:20 She's going single punches.

1:11:21 Okay.

1:11:22 Single punches with paint.

1:11:23 We think and we pressure work behind the double jab.

1:11:25 Left shoulder stays up.

1:11:26 Sh.

1:11:27 If you're going to jab, the jab stays high.

1:11:28 We bring it right back.

1:11:29 Other than that, keep pressure.

1:11:30 He's going single punches.

1:11:31 He's doing stupid[ __] but it's getting he's getting inside.

1:11:33 He's landing uppercut because we're not painting.

1:11:35 We would change one thing and one thing only pretty much in this fight.

1:11:38 Cubby, you're doing one at a time and he's getting off the combinations.

1:11:42 Okay.

1:11:42 When you get in there, put those punches together.

1:11:44 Don't be afraid to go for a take down.

1:11:49 Here's that entry on that power double from Ross Pearson.

1:11:51 Beautiful timing and how about that speed

1:11:54 from Swanson showing some great footwork.

1:11:57 And look at that capoera kick right over

1:11:59 the top landing a right on the neck of Pearson.

1:12:02 But Pearson eating it.

1:12:07 Yeah, pretty remarkable how Pearson just

1:12:09 eats that strike and keeps coming forward.

1:12:16 You heard Greg Jackson barking the orders there on the corner

1:12:18 of Cup Swanson who also trains

1:12:20 alongside world welterweight boxing champion Tim Bradley.

1:12:23 A

1:12:24 lot of high level training partners for Swanson not just in Albuquerque,

1:12:28 New Mexico at Jackson Winkl Johns but also in California.

1:12:32 Yeah, it shows, you know, Cup Swanson's commitment to train with the best and

1:12:38 getting world class training partners in all

1:12:39 areas is only going to improve your game and give you that confidence.

1:12:44 Same goes for Ross Pearson as he lands the jab there.

1:12:46 You saw Eric Delier in his corner alongside Lloyd.

1:12:51 Big right hand there for Swanson and Pearson's chin is holding up fine.

1:12:58 Swanson just throwing everything.

1:13:00 How about landing that left hand on the way up?

1:13:02 Highlevel stuff,

1:13:04 man.

1:13:04 It It's unbelievable to see K Swanson

1:13:06 and his athleticism and what he brings into the cage.

1:13:08 And now Pearson trying to use his athleticism and strength to take down Swanson.

1:13:13 Swanson working on a switch.

1:13:18 Working on it again.

1:13:19 Beautiful counter from Pearson.

1:13:21 Swanson still looking for that switch.

1:13:23 He's got his arm on the inside of the thigh of Ross Pearson.

1:13:26 He's posted his arm, his right arm on the mat.

1:13:30 see if he can switch out and get back to his feet here.

1:13:33 He does, but Pearson transitioning to the back.

1:13:38 And Swanson wins that scramble.

1:13:48 Nice right hand from Swanson.

1:13:50 Very clean strike.

1:13:52 It looks like Pearson's uh dealing with a cut here.

1:13:54 Yeah, finally starting to wear it given all the damage inflicted by Cub Swanson.

1:14:03 A nice inside uppercut there for Ross Pierce.

1:14:05 No time to catch your breath here.

1:14:11 Well, it's evident, you know, that Swanson is winning the speed battle here.

1:14:14 So, what does Pearson need to do?

1:14:16 He needs to faint.

1:14:17 He needs to double up that jab and start pressuring forward.

1:14:20 He needs to really get some respect now from Swanson with his power

1:14:24 and start staying active and he's starting to do that now.

1:14:27 But he needs to get on with the faints, but Swanson's just too fast.

1:14:31 One way to slow a guy down is to start to faint him.

1:14:38 Swanson just getting very comfortable there.

1:14:40 Almost too comfortable.

1:14:41 His hands are a little low there, but look at that up kick again.

1:14:45 And Pearson just eats it.

1:14:49 And Pearson's jaw and chin is very, very impressive.

1:14:57 And you see for Swanson really not all that calculated,

1:15:00 not measuring risk and reward.

1:15:02 He's just throwing everything.

1:15:03 He is, you know, but uh he's taking those risks

1:15:06 and now it's Pearson who's taking advantage of those mistakes,

1:15:08 who's now getting on top and scoring points with his ground and pound.

1:15:14 And not to mention his size advantage.

1:15:16 And it it definitely looks like he's got

1:15:18 a size and weight advantage here on fight night.

1:15:20 Uh could wear on a guy and uh you know holding that kind of weight and dealing

1:15:24 with that pressure the hips and the and the body weight can slow a guy down.

1:15:29 And uh maybe Pearson can get that speed advantage down to a more

1:15:34 of an even playing field and the operative phrase in there scoring points.

1:15:39 And that's what you're doing in MMA when you're on top.

1:15:45 So, a lot of shining moments here for Cub Swanson in the second round,

1:15:48 but now absorbing shots on the ground and Pearson just peppers that body.

1:15:53 Swanson needs to get those feet on the hip, establish control, push away,

1:15:56 and get back to his feet like he did in that first round.

1:16:00 And uh but Pearson doing a great job of controlling and uh starting

1:16:04 to bring control and technique back into his side of the court here.

1:16:14 Swanson back to his feet now.

1:16:20 Nice culmination and counter from Pearson.

1:16:22 Pearson getting very fluid.

1:16:25 And how about that front kick from Swanson.

1:16:27 Pearson is hurt.

1:16:29 And that's going to do it.

1:16:32 Swanson has done it.

1:16:36 I tell you what, that front kick landed right on the jaw and it

1:16:40 was the counter as he slipped out of that angle that hurt Pearson.

1:16:45 Come Swanson.

1:16:50 And this is the potential we have heard

1:16:52 so much about when it comes to[ __] Swanson.

1:16:55 Comes through in a huge way here tonight.

1:16:57 DC, look at that front kick and he landed.

1:17:01 It was two right hands.

1:17:03 And look at that left hook as he got off on an angle, John.

1:17:06 And that's very important because Pearson wasn't able to see it coming.

1:17:11 There's the front kick.

1:17:13 Two right hands in a row and boom,

1:17:15 left hook as he got off on the angle and Pearson never saw that coming.

1:17:21 What a beautiful punch from Cub Swanson.

1:17:23 And we are finally seeing this potential fully realized from Cub Swanson.

1:17:30 So it was a second round knockout against George

1:17:33 Root back in January and the story the same here.

1:17:37 Cub Swanson with the knockout of Ross Pearson.

1:17:40 He improves to 17 and five and gets what

1:17:43 many would call the biggest win of his MMA career.

1:17:48 I don't know what happened.

1:17:50 you know, Cub Swanson, uh, you know,

1:17:52 he may not have that same confidence as a Jos Aldo,

1:17:55 but he has the same level of athleticism of a Jose Aldo,

1:17:58 and that's saying a lot.

1:18:03 So, Cub Swanson vaults in title contention by taking out Ross Pearson.

1:18:08 The official decision when we return to Atlantic City.

1:18:38 Oh yeah.

1:18:57 down.

1:19:03 Down.

1:19:23 around.

1:19:36 Step How's that for a way to kick off

1:19:49 the UFC Fight Night on FX here from Rebel Atlantic City.

1:19:53 UFC Fight Night on FX is sponsored by Bud Light.

1:19:57 It's the sure sign of a good time.

1:19:59 Here we go.

1:20:01 And here we go inside the octagon.

1:20:02 Bruce Buffer has the official decision.

1:20:05 Ladies and gentlemen, referee Eveing has called a stop to this contest

1:20:08 at 4 minutes 14 seconds of round number two,

1:20:12 declaring the winner by TKO, Cub Swanson.

1:20:22 I am here with your winner, Cub Swanson.

1:20:24 You wanted that signature win to put yourself on the map.

1:20:27 You certainly got it here tonight.

1:20:29 Congratulations on a tremendous striking performance.

1:20:32 Uh, thanks so much.

1:20:33 I'm just happy to be here.

1:20:34 I woke up this morning and said, "Man,

1:20:36 I got a lot of people that want a good uh a good exciting show,

1:20:39 and that's what I came to do." Can you talk us through the end of the fight?

1:20:43 There were the two short right hands that clipped him,

1:20:45 and then you followed it up with the left hook that ended the fight for good.

1:20:48 Uh well, he I was hitting him with a lot of shots,

1:20:50 and he didn't show like he was getting hit at all or hurt at all.

1:20:53 And uh I'm real good at that exiting left hook

1:20:55 and I saw him go for like a knee or something.

1:20:57 He dropped both of his hands and I was circling that way.

1:21:00 I just hit him right on the button and then uh he fell backwards and it

1:21:03 kind of confused me and I tried to jump on him but it was already over.

1:21:07 I know you felt like a win over

1:21:08 Ross Pearson would vault you into title contention.

1:21:11 What do you think this win does for you at 145 lbs?

1:21:14 Oh well I said if I win uh the last fight in this fight excitingly.

1:21:17 You know the UFC acknowledges that and pushes me up uh faster.

1:21:21 So I expect a real good fight, maybe a number one contendership.

1:21:26 Um you know I'm open for whatever.

1:21:28 I just want to be here and put on good performances for you guys.

1:21:31 Well, you certainly did that more tonight.

1:21:32 Ladies and gentlemen, Cub Swanson.

1:21:36 Cub Swanson getting the stoppage.

1:21:39 What a beautiful strike.

1:21:40 And a good stoppage from Eve Lavine who saw that Pearson was hurt.

1:21:46 He tried to get for this featherweight matchup.

1:21:48 There she is.

1:21:48 The beautiful Ariani.

1:21:50 Britney, our entire crew back in Toronto

1:21:53 ready to get things started live on pay-per-view.

1:21:56 You ready, sir?

1:21:57 You ready?

1:21:58 Fight.

1:21:58 Cub Swanson and Charles Olivera.

1:22:01 Tonight's clock brought to you by Sony Pictures.

1:22:03 Here comes the boom in theaters October 12th.

1:22:08 White trunks for Cub Swanson, blue and red trunks for the Brazilian.

1:22:13 I've been really looking forward to this bout,

1:22:14 Mike, especially after Cub Swanson's last two outings,

1:22:18 which have looked really s he's looked really sensational against Ross Pearson.

1:22:23 we stopped him in his last fight and George

1:22:25 Root before that KO'ed him in sensational fashion

1:22:30 and uh Charles Olivera of course is uh one

1:22:32 of the most promising guys in this division a really multi-talented

1:22:37 fighter with a incredible ground game and some real clean

1:22:41 technical striking nice take down let's see about his ground Olivera

1:22:47 well Swanson has a very good ground game of his own

1:22:49 Swanson a black belt the younger Olivera

1:22:51 a brown belt Both very good with their submissions.

1:22:58 Aloa came out flying at 155, stumbled a bit and now at 145,

1:23:04 he's starting to put together an impressive winning streak again.

1:23:08 Submission of the night over Eric Wisley with the cap

1:23:12 slicer and then the anaconda choke against Jonathan Brookkins,

1:23:15 the ultimate fighter winner.

1:23:17 He shows very, very high level technique in his jiu-jitsu.

1:23:22 sixth youngest active fighter in the UFC.

1:23:25 Yeah, they might be separated by a belt rank,

1:23:27 but I don't think anything separates them skill-wise.

1:23:29 I would agree, Joe.

1:23:31 Boxing would go the ledger of Cub Swanson.

1:23:33 He's got some Yeah.

1:23:34 power.

1:23:35 Yeah.

1:23:35 Some of the best pure boxing in the division.

1:23:38 I think Aloa has good technique, two strikes,

1:23:40 but he doesn't have the kind of power that Swanson has.

1:23:44 Swanson really wings his shots, though.

1:23:46 As you notice, there's a very a big difference in the way they execute.

1:23:49 Whereas Olivea is always in the hands up position,

1:23:53 always very very technical with his the way he delivers his shots.

1:23:56 He doesn't try to throw everything into him.

1:23:58 Cub Swanson is the antithesis of that.

1:24:00 He throws wild ringing power punches,

1:24:02 but they land and they put people to sleep.

1:24:07 Yep.

1:24:06 And he did that to Ross Pearson earning knockout of the night as you mentioned.

1:24:11 That was an amazing fight.

1:24:13 We watched some Brazil on TV.

1:24:16 Yeah, we did.

1:24:18 And then we had an amazing night of fights.

1:24:20 Yes, we did Orizon.

1:24:24 Good right hand to the body there by Cub.

1:24:26 Good left hook to the body.

1:24:27 Very good shot.

1:24:31 Yeah, Oliver might be walking that one off.

1:24:34 Oh, good right hand over the top.

1:24:35 And he's hurt.

1:24:36 Yeah, he's done.

1:24:36 And it is all over.

1:24:38 He's done.

1:24:39 Swanson by knockout.

1:24:41 I think a part of it was that left hook to the body.

1:24:43 I think the left hook to the body really hurt him.

1:24:45 and he was trying to like walk it off

1:24:47 and make it look like it wasn't a big deal.

1:24:49 And then Cub Swanson came over the top with the haymaker, son.

1:24:54 Fight replay brought to you by Bud Light.

1:24:56 Here we go.

1:25:00 Crack.

1:25:01 Yeah, that's And look at his legs.

1:25:03 Just go check please.

1:25:07 Let's take one more look at that.

1:25:10 And he was already hurt from that body shot.

1:25:12 I'd like to see that body shot before that.

1:25:13 Boom.

1:25:15 Very nicely done.

1:25:16 Right to the tempo.

1:25:16 We're going to show the body shot right right after this.

1:25:19 And you see his legs just give out.

1:25:24 Bam.

1:25:25 It's big, big power.

1:25:26 Here's the body shot, Mike.

1:25:28 Look at this.

1:25:30 Oh yeah.

1:25:30 Right to the liver.

1:25:31 And the way he moved after that, he backed up a little.

1:25:35 It looked like he was just trying to kind

1:25:37 of like play that off, but he was hurt.

1:25:39 And that right hand, it just that's all she wrote.

1:25:42 Beautiful job by Cub Swanson.

1:25:44 And as Joe pointed out,

1:25:46 the body shot had Alivera thinking and then Cub Swanson was able to come over

1:25:51 the top because Aivera was kind of coming

1:25:54 down low to try to block another body shot.

1:25:57 And Cub Swanson finishes the fight quickly.

1:26:00 Here is Bruce Buffer with the official decision.

1:26:04 Ladies and gentlemen,

1:26:04 referee Eve Leving has called a stop to this contest

1:26:07 at 2 minutes 40 seconds of the very first round,

1:26:10 declaring the winner by knockout Cub Swanson.

1:26:19 Another knockout for Cub Swanson.

1:26:21 I'm here with the winner, Cub Swanson.

1:26:23 Cub, you are on a roll, my man.

1:26:25 You have been winning and winning impressively.

1:26:28 That's three in a row big time inside the octagon.

1:26:31 And this one might have been your sweetest one ever.

1:26:33 Oh, thank you.

1:26:34 Uh, he was tough, man.

1:26:36 Uh, he he kind of threw me off for a little bit.

1:26:38 It took me a second to get my rhythm, but uh my coaches, you know,

1:26:41 had a lot of confidence in my power and tell

1:26:43 me if I just land that one big punch, they're going down for sure.

1:26:47 Yeah, that is exactly what you did.

1:26:48 It looks like you hurt him with a left hook to the body before that.

1:26:51 Did you think he was hurt by that?

1:26:53 Yeah, I saw it on his face.

1:26:54 So, uh, when I went to throw the the right hand

1:26:56 Let's take a look at that left hook up here.

1:26:58 Yeah, you really dug that left hook into the liver.

1:27:01 Yeah.

1:27:01 So that when I I dipped down to make him think I was going to the body again,

1:27:04 he dropped his guard and I went up top

1:27:06 and and I hit him with that one to the eye.

1:27:09 Look, it doesn't get any better than that, my friend.

1:27:10 Congratulations on another outstanding performance.

1:27:13 Can't wait to see you again, Cub Swanson, ladies and gentlemen.

1:27:19 Cub Swanson is truly putting it all together

1:27:24 with that massively improved boxing and a finish in just

1:27:28 2 minutes and 40 seconds of Charles Olivea tonight.

1:27:33 Capri the beautiful Arani, lovely Britney.

1:27:37 Our entire crew here inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

1:27:45 Dennis Siver and Cub Swanson.

1:27:47 Tonight's clock brought to you by Bud Light.

1:27:50 Here we go.

1:27:51 Black trunks for Sver, red trunks for Cub Swanson.

1:27:57 Watch for the left leg of Dennis Siver.

1:28:02 And watch really for anything from Cub Swanson, right?

1:28:05 Yeah, he throws a lot of wild techniques.

1:28:07 Very unpredictable.

1:28:08 Nice leg kick there by Cub and a return by Sver.

1:28:12 Sver very light on his feet.

1:28:14 You notice bouncing up and down the balls of his feet.

1:28:19 Man, he looks so much bigger as you mentioned than yesterday.

1:28:22 Yeah, he really cuts a lot of weight.

1:28:24 I would like to ask him how much it is,

1:28:27 but at 145 when he weighs in, he looks

1:28:30 gaunt and drawn out and now he looks very big.

1:28:34 It's his third fight at 145.

1:28:38 You just said the 155s were just too tall, too big, too strong.

1:28:42 Yeah.

1:28:42 And this has got heavy hands.

1:28:44 Cub's got to be real careful.

1:28:47 You know, Cub likes to be wild and unpredictable,

1:28:49 but he also leaves himself open a lot.

1:28:52 Man, he's very fast, though.

1:28:53 Look how quick he got in and out of there.

1:28:55 There's that kick.

1:28:56 Also, watch for the left hook of Dennis Siver.

1:29:00 And you know, it's weird because he throws a fantastic spinning back kick,

1:29:04 but you never see it coming.

1:29:06 He's one of the very best at not telegraphing the hips.

1:29:10 when you see a guy turn sideways and sort of turn his right hip.

1:29:14 Oh, and Cub speaking of his skin.

1:29:17 And here we finally see Cub on the ground.

1:29:19 Very rarely have we seen him in his last few fights in a grappling situation,

1:29:25 but he has a very good ground game.

1:29:29 Trying to improve his position is Siver.

1:29:32 Siver has been working his grappling and wrestling because he said,

1:29:35 "I was a little bit too much of a kickboxer early in my UFC career.

1:29:39 receiver controlling him here on top.

1:29:54 Head and arm control.

1:29:55 Still stuck in the half guard.

1:29:58 Cub is pummeling under.

1:29:59 He's got that under hook on that side.

1:30:01 Now he wants to get an under hook on the side where the half guard is.

1:30:04 That'll allow him to stand up, but Sver's protecting that right now.

1:30:10 not allowing him to pummel under with that left arm.

1:30:12 That's what he wants.

1:30:13 Now here you see Siver going with the head and arm control,

1:30:16 but he lost that arm.

1:30:18 It's a little battle.

1:30:19 See, now Siver gets it back.

1:30:21 That's what he wants.

1:30:22 He wants to completely control the head and arm.

1:30:24 Now he is in control.

1:30:26 And what he's going to try to do

1:30:27 now is put Cub Swanson into the mounted crucifix.

1:30:32 One of the most difficult positions to escape

1:30:34 when a man is in the crossside position.

1:30:36 So, what he's going to try to do is

1:30:37 put Cub Swanson's right arm in between his legs,

1:30:40 and he's going to try to pin his left arm using his neck and his shoulders.

1:30:46 And from there, he will smash him with elbows and punches.

1:30:49 He's halfway there now.

1:30:50 He's got the body in position, but he does not have control.

1:30:53 Oh, look at that.

1:30:54 He He turned to keep his body weight down and almost lost it totally.

1:30:59 Almost wound up in guard.

1:31:00 Now, he's back in side control.

1:31:02 Nice little hip escape there to get back.

1:31:05 Little chest match on the ground here.

1:31:08 Yeah, but you know, this is where the weight comes in.

1:31:10 This guy is a gorilla.

1:31:12 He really is very physically strong at 145 lbs.

1:31:16 He's doing a good job getting the better

1:31:18 of this ground fighting against the black belt right now.

1:31:20 Yeah, I mean, Cub's not in in real danger right here,

1:31:23 and he's he's eating some little shots, but right now,

1:31:27 he's just sort of biting his time and I would imagine waiting

1:31:30 for an opportunity to explode to try to get to a better defend.

1:31:33 There it is.

1:31:34 try to get to a better defensive position.

1:31:36 But in doing so, look at this mount.

1:31:38 Almost mount is trying to capture that ankle and he does so.

1:31:44 Man, Sver's definitely worked on his ground game.

1:31:46 He certainly has.

1:31:50 Especially the top game because you know a big heavy strong guy like that

1:31:55 really hard to get off you.

1:31:57 And good job by Cub here.

1:31:59 Hip escaping, pushing off with that right foot on the hip.

1:32:03 But Dennis Sver clamps down using that gable grip

1:32:07 and he's circling around trying to reclaim side control,

1:32:10 trying to step over that left leg of Cub Swanson.

1:32:13 He wants to keep going in that counterclockwise way.

1:32:17 Cub Swanson's going to try to guillotine him here.

1:32:20 He's got time to stand up.

1:32:23 Nicely done.

1:32:27 20 seconds on the clock here in the first southball stance for Swanson.

1:32:33 He's switching it back and forth.

1:32:41 Left kick, left hook.

1:32:42 Be careful.

1:32:43 Here comes Swanson.

1:32:44 Nice shot.

1:32:45 Two kicks by Swanson to the leg.

1:32:47 Into the body.

1:32:49 Tonight's corner cam brought to you by Corn Nuts.

1:32:51 The only snack with big enough kernels to step into the octagon.

1:32:57 First round is yours.

1:33:04 Everything's perfect.

1:33:07 Yeah.

1:33:07 Don't change a lot.

1:33:08 Just keep doing what you're doing.

1:33:17 Just make sure he doesn't get get range so he can't do much.

1:33:22 But please don't overdo anything.

1:33:28 Hey, Cub.

1:33:29 Remember, he swings.

1:33:30 When you throw your punches and you're popping out, he's swinging.

1:33:32 So, bring those hands back up, but you don't want to get caught on the way out.

1:33:36 All right.

1:33:37 Keep looking for that right.

1:33:38 Keep looking for that right hand.

1:33:39 He'll be there.

1:33:40 Hey, and make him commit, Cub.

1:33:41 Make him commit so he can catch him on the way in.

1:33:45 Cub Swanson has some good success at the end

1:33:47 of that round with powerful leg kicks.

1:33:50 One to the legs rather and one to the body.

1:33:54 But for the most part, Dennis even controlled that round.

1:33:58 Yeah, he had top position for over three minutes.

1:34:00 Joe,

1:34:03 round two.

1:34:13 Both men with great quickness, good explosiveness.

1:34:17 Siver will set up that spinning back Oh, beautiful left hook.

1:34:20 He'll set up that spinning back kick off a jab

1:34:22 or sometimes even off the front leg roundhouse kick.

1:34:25 Put it down and then throw it.

1:34:29 Swanson said, "I'm very confident now as a fighter because of my preparation.

1:34:33 It's changed from when I was younger.

1:34:35 Much more disciplined." There's the spin.

1:34:38 And he knows this could be a huge win.

1:34:40 Especially if he could get a finish here.

1:34:45 You see how quickly Sver throws that spinning back kick.

1:34:47 That's young fighters can really learn from how

1:34:50 he does it because you don't see it coming.

1:34:55 Good checking there with that leg kick.

1:35:00 And Cub is trying to potshot him.

1:35:02 That's what he likes to do.

1:35:03 He takes advantage of that speed that he has.

1:35:06 He likes to just explode in and land shots that people don't see coming.

1:35:12 And he's just that unorthodox style of his is really hard for fighters to gauge.

1:35:16 Yeah, he's been in a good zone.

1:35:19 Well, Greg Jackson has done a fantastic job with him

1:35:22 and that's one of the big turns in Cub's career

1:35:25 trying to fight off a taked down here,

1:35:28 moving his camp to Albuquerque,

1:35:30 you really saw a big difference in just the professionalism in his approach.

1:35:35 Yes.

1:35:35 And that's what I talked about, Joe, with the confidence in his preparation.

1:35:38 That that whole change of everything for

1:35:40 he went cartwheel kick.

1:35:45 got Dotson and Brandau and Sanchez, Guida, Honda Jones, you name it.

1:35:50 All those guys in Albuquerque to train with.

1:35:52 And Mike Wingle, John is one of the most underrated striking coach.

1:35:55 He's a master in the business.

1:35:58 Yeah.

1:35:58 John Jones will be the first to tell you that.

1:36:00 Yeah.

1:36:00 Well, that's the star pupil right there.

1:36:03 Yep.

1:36:03 Beautiful right hand over the top by Cub.

1:36:08 Now, this is one of the things to look out for because of the weight cut.

1:36:11 Dennis Siver, will he start to slow down?

1:36:14 The the weight cutting is a huge issue in MMA and dehydrating yourself

1:36:19 to make weight is not healthy and there's a point of diminishing returns

1:36:24 and the question is has Dennis Sver passed over that point

1:36:27 and in a three round war will it start to show its effects and travel

1:36:33 and all that muscle?

1:36:35 Yep.

1:36:34 You know, there's a lot of muscle to feed.

1:36:38 You traditionally, you know,

1:36:39 you don't really don't see fighters built that thickly.

1:36:42 Both men looking to spin.

1:36:47 Overhand right and Swanson covered up defensively for the counter.

1:37:01 Again, checked.

1:37:02 Well, he's sort of like lifting it up.

1:37:04 He's not really He's He's still taking it on the calf.

1:37:07 You can see the red marks.

1:37:08 Yeah.

1:37:09 Yeah.

1:37:09 And that still hurts.

1:37:10 And it also still affects your movement.

1:37:12 Of course, Benson Henderson famously used that against Frank Edgar.

1:37:16 He loves that technique.

1:37:27 looking for the big haymaker.

1:37:30 Nice kick to the body there.

1:37:34 Cub said he wants to display beautiful destruction.

1:37:38 His words, not mine,

1:37:41 but he does want to continue to have highlight reel finishes.

1:37:48 Get up in the Aldo Mendes Llamas talk.

1:37:51 He's so dangerous in the way he holds his hands down there though, man.

1:37:56 Uppercut.

1:37:56 Yep.

1:37:58 And now see where his toss.

1:38:03 How good was that?

1:38:04 Beautiful mount.

1:38:05 Right to the mount.

1:38:06 Excellent ground control by Cub.

1:38:08 That was outstanding.

1:38:10 Cub looks at the clock.

1:38:12 You've got time to work.

1:38:13 And just like that, Cub Swanson is taking control of this fight.

1:38:17 And Dennis Sever's in all sorts of trouble.

1:38:20 Full mount by Cub.

1:38:23 He's lifting one knee up.

1:38:27 Let's see what he tries to do here.

1:38:28 Oh, beautiful job defending the position.

1:38:31 Nice.

1:38:32 Dennis tried to flip him over and Cub adjusted excellently man.

1:38:37 Now he's postured up with his ground and pound

1:38:40 and Cub has taken a lot of chances here in his control.

1:38:43 Lifting legs up.

1:38:44 He's not staying tight to him at all.

1:38:46 Final seconds of the round,

1:38:47 but he's got to he's got to really throw those hips over the top.

1:38:52 Final seconds.

1:38:53 Five.

1:38:53 He lost it.

1:38:54 receiver on top now though.

1:39:04 What a finish to that round.

1:39:06 All right, sit up for me.

1:39:10 Put your hands on my shoulders.

1:39:11 Both hands on my shoulders.

1:39:12 Deep breath.

1:39:13 I need you to breathe very deeply in deep.

1:39:16 Your cardio is sick.

1:39:18 Calm down.

1:39:20 You are amazing.

1:39:21 Construction.

1:39:23 He's way slow.

1:39:24 Dean call that round.

1:39:26 Oh yeah.

1:39:26 That's your round.

1:39:28 Okay.

1:39:28 But we He's going to come out and try to take that momentum back.

1:39:30 You understand me?

1:39:31 So try to take it back.

1:39:32 You got to stay focused.

1:39:33 Give me some water.

1:39:35 You can counter rub his punches.

1:39:36 Cubs.

1:39:37 Hey, in close range.

1:39:38 What a wild exchange that was.

1:39:40 Let's take a look at it here.

1:39:42 Dennis Sver trying to take Cub to the ground.

1:39:44 But look at this beautiful throw.

1:39:46 Boom into side control.

1:39:48 Mounts him and an an outstanding exchange on the ground.

1:39:54 picks up that leg, flips him over in perfect position right into side control

1:40:02 and then steps over with the left leg and mounts him.

1:40:05 Just an amazing exchange there and really like loose and wild by Cub Swanson.

1:40:11 Wasn't conservative with his techniques at all.

1:40:15 It's one of the things that's so exciting about him.

1:40:17 He's not a play it safe guy.

1:40:19 Now he is a goal for broke fighter.

1:40:23 Z nice left hook there on the break.

1:40:28 Oh, nice kick by Swanson.

1:40:31 Man, they're battling here early.

1:40:33 Well, I I agree with the corner of Cub Swanson.

1:40:36 Cub is much faster than Sver, especially as the fight is going on.

1:40:43 Siver is starting to slow down a bit.

1:40:46 He's obviously in excellent shape, but again,

1:40:48 carrying around a lot of that muscle.

1:40:52 There's a price you pay for that.

1:41:02 Oh, good right hand by Cub with a kick to the body.

1:41:07 He's finding his rhythm here early in the round.

1:41:13 He went like faked an uppercut and threw a left kick.

1:41:16 That's a new one.

1:41:18 And that's the kind of thing that this guy does.

1:41:20 He does a lot of weird stuff in there.

1:41:29 And when one of those lands, it really gets you thinking.

1:41:33 Is it rising?

1:41:36 Oh, spin.

1:41:36 Spin, but close the distance on him.

1:41:40 Nice shot to the body.

1:41:44 Close fight.

1:41:45 Three and a half left.

1:41:51 Yeah, Cub really has Sver thinking here.

1:41:54 You can see him hesitating here.

1:42:00 Oh,

1:42:00 Cub switches his stance a hon.

1:42:02 Yeah, he really does.

1:42:03 He's one of the most unorthodox guys as far as his movements.

1:42:09 Good right hand and connects.

1:42:10 It's the speed of Cub Swanson that's

1:42:12 making the difference here in this third round.

1:42:15 Nasty right hand.

1:42:16 And again, another and another TN.

1:42:20 He heard him looking to finish the fight.

1:42:23 Swanson all over him.

1:42:26 Dennis Sever's in all sorts of trouble here.

1:42:29 Cub Swanson looking to finish.

1:42:33 It is all over.

1:42:35 Beautiful.

1:42:36 Cub Swanson.

1:42:38 A team's beautiful destruction.

1:42:41 Very well said.

1:42:46 Wow, that was an amazing exchange.

1:42:49 The accuracy of those punches, the speed.

1:42:53 He is such a really interesting guy to watch.

1:42:59 That's a unique Cub Swanson style.

1:43:02 Fight replay brought to you by Bud Light.

1:43:03 Joe, here we go.

1:43:05 One, two.

1:43:05 There's the right hand again.

1:43:06 There's a left hook and the right hand.

1:43:08 I mean, accuracy, too.

1:43:10 Really accurate shots in the middle of a wild exchange.

1:43:14 Boom.

1:43:14 Hammer fist again.

1:43:15 Again, again.

1:43:16 And Herb Dean gave him plenty of time to recover,

1:43:19 but I I think that was a merciful decision to stop that fight.

1:43:24 That's the right hand that did it.

1:43:26 And there's another one.

1:43:27 He looked out his eyes and he said, "That is enough." Beautiful.

1:43:31 And again, boom, right hand.

1:43:32 Let's take a look at this again.

1:43:33 Look at the accuracy.

1:43:35 I mean, his head's moving all over the place

1:43:37 and yet Cub Swanson keeps nailing him on the button.

1:43:40 Beautiful destruction.

1:43:44 It was It really was one of the best performances of Cub Swanson's career.

1:43:49 His fifth straight victory

1:43:52 as he finishes Dennis Siver.

1:43:55 Killer Cub.

1:43:56 Here is Bruce Buffer with the official decision.

1:44:00 Ladies and gentlemen, referee Herb Dean has called a stop to this contest

1:44:03 at 2 minutes 24 seconds of round number three.

1:44:06 declared the winner by TKO Cub Swanson.

1:44:13 First of three assignments tonight.

1:44:15 Britney Palmer is in the building.

1:44:17 Glad you are with us on ESPN 2 E+.

1:44:20 Cub Swanson

1:44:21 in the role of underdog tonight about plus 145.

1:44:24 Daniel Peneda in the minus 170 range.

1:44:28 And with that touch of gloves, we are underway.

1:44:30 This fight clock is brought to you by Toyo Tires.

1:44:32 The official tire of the UFC.

1:44:34 Swanson in black.

1:44:34 Paneda is in blue.

1:44:36 Here we go.

1:44:42 When we asked Pana, I watched an interview with Pana

1:44:44 talking to uh the media during his media day.

1:44:47 They said, "Are you planning to kick the leg

1:44:48 of Cub Swanson after such a bad injury?" He said,

1:44:51 "I kick all the time,

1:44:52 but I really want to show my wrestling this time when I'm in there."

1:44:56 But he said, "All he does is kick.

1:44:57 So, it doesn't matter that he hurt his leg."

1:45:00 And look how big Ped looks in there.

1:45:02 I to your point, he was not shy about the physical

1:45:05 advantages and what his game plan was going to be as yet.

1:45:08 Swanson unable to be taken down.

1:45:16 Man, he is big.

1:45:17 He looks a lot bigger.

1:45:19 Jesus look big.

1:45:19 I mean, he looks like a a legitimate oneweight class above.

1:45:23 He looks like a lightweight.

1:45:25 There it is.

1:45:28 Look at the size of his legs, too.

1:45:30 I mean, those kicks.

1:45:31 Oh man.

1:45:33 And Paneda is riding high on the momentum of that Herbert Burns fight.

1:45:40 Peda looks confident, man.

1:45:41 He looks very confident.

1:45:43 Look at this beautiful leg kick.

1:45:47 Oh my goodness.

1:45:48 Cub can't take too many of those outside kicks, man.

1:45:53 Swanson high switching up the footwork.

1:45:56 Big connection by Swanson.

1:45:58 Pan's just eating it, though.

1:46:00 And but that's one thing, right?

1:46:01 You can be overconfident when it comes to taking shots until the one that

1:46:05 you don't see coming lands and then you go to sleep.

1:46:07 So you got to respect every guy you're in the octagon with.

1:46:12 Beautiful.

1:46:13 Cub trying to stay on the outside now and take those pot shots.

1:46:16 Throwing a lot of good faints.

1:46:17 Look at that.

1:46:18 Pened pulls the trigger first.

1:46:22 Oh my goodness,

1:46:23 man.

1:46:23 Those leg kicks are brutal.

1:46:25 So powerful.

1:46:27 Big right combo by Cub Swanson.

1:46:31 Oh my goodness.

1:46:33 Little slip by Pan.

1:46:33 We'll see if Swanson can make him pay for it.

1:46:35 A little slip after a hard impact, though.

1:46:37 Look at the back leg of Swanson already, man, from those leg kicks.

1:46:41 He's got to look out.

1:46:41 Oh, look out.

1:46:42 This is literally how he lost his ACL.

1:46:47 Yes.

1:46:47 This has to cause a little bit of concern.

1:46:48 No.

1:46:49 Good job by

1:46:49 Got out of there.

1:46:50 Good job.

1:46:51 Control now.

1:46:53 I mean, just mentally after going through that, going through the rehab,

1:46:56 the moment you feel your leg in that position again, has to be scary.

1:47:00 You know, we even started limiting leg

1:47:01 lock transitions in practice because they're so dangerous.

1:47:04 And when you're going with straight jiu-jitsu guys,

1:47:07 they love to jump on your legs for some reason.

1:47:10 I blame John Donah.

1:47:11 Really?

1:47:12 Yeah.

1:47:12 Donahir, Death Squad,

1:47:14 and Dean Listister.

1:47:15 Yeah.

1:47:15 They love jumping down.

1:47:16 They love jumping on those leg locks, man.

1:47:18 It's crazy how much the game has changed.

1:47:20 the game literally shifted into a leg

1:47:23 lock dominated game when before that it was very few leg locks and early

1:47:28 on in jiu-jitsu leg locks were actually frowned upon.

1:47:31 If you attempted a leg lock in a jiu-jitsu tournament, Brazilians would boo you.

1:47:34 They hated leg locks because of that very reason.

1:47:37 They felt it was cheap and they felt like it was very damaging to you.

1:47:41 If you did it in training, a lot of times guys got their legs

1:47:43 destroyed and would never be able to compete again.

1:47:47 Look at this.

1:47:47 Pened looking for Oh my goodness.

1:47:51 Arm bar attempt here.

1:47:52 Cubs out.

1:47:54 He's on the back.

1:47:56 There he goes.

1:47:56 Turn him over on the fence.

1:47:58 Get that arm back.

1:47:58 Get that arm.

1:47:59 Swanson.

1:47:59 Pretty slick with his submission defense thus far.

1:48:01 Under 90 seconds to go in the round.

1:48:05 Cubs looked great on the ground.

1:48:06 Oh, there it is.

1:48:07 There it is.

1:48:08 You saw the leg give out.

1:48:11 Oh, spinning back kick to the body.

1:48:13 Now he recognizes the Cubs left leg is compromised.

1:48:19 Oh, beautiful.

1:48:19 Don't grab the pass, Daniel.

1:48:21 Way to roll with the the the the taked down by Swanson.

1:48:24 But look at Pineda with the adjustment.

1:48:26 And now he finds himself on top

1:48:28 and inside control here now on the back.

1:48:30 Swanson up to his feet.

1:48:32 Beautiful job.

1:48:34 Both men Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts,

1:48:36 but Paneda historically the much greater submission threat.

1:48:41 Oh.

1:48:40 Oh, he hurt him bad.

1:48:41 He hurt him bad.

1:48:43 There it is, Joe.

1:48:44 We talked about it, right?

1:48:45 You take those shots until you take the one you don't see.

1:48:48 And now he's hurt.

1:48:49 Swanson needs to put the pressure on him a little bit here.

1:48:52 Penet hurt bad.

1:48:56 Still seconds to work with for Swanson here.

1:48:59 He's still hurt.

1:49:00 Swanson just needs to set him up.

1:49:07 Wayward spinning elbow attempt from Peneda here

1:49:09 in the waning seconds of the round.

1:49:12 The

1:49:13 hurt bad and in a round where he had a lot of success now he got dropped and Cup

1:49:17 Swanson is going to feel real good going

1:49:19 to the end of the round and start the second

1:49:26 again big from Swanson over here Daniel breathe and breathe you got

1:49:35 this breathe he's getting you with a straight speed up.

1:49:43 Breathe in.

1:49:45 You're fine.

1:49:45 Fine.

1:49:46 Leg kick his legs out.

1:49:49 Relax.

1:49:50 Give me a deep breath.

1:49:50 Come on.

1:49:51 Turn around.

1:49:52 So I can see you got into that leg kick, Daniel.

1:50:04 Fake a shot and look for it.

1:50:05 Deep breath.

1:50:06 Come on.

1:50:06 Where's my breath?

1:50:08 Hey, you got this.

1:50:09 You got this.

1:50:11 Water.

1:50:15 Just be aware.

1:50:16 Keep that left hand up.

1:50:17 You understand?

1:50:19 Keep that left hand up.

1:50:33 Next Saturday, we've got a phenomenal fight

1:50:35 night to close out the 2020 UFC slate.

1:50:37 Main event, Steven Wonderboy Thompson taking on Jeff Neil.

1:50:40 Also, Marlon Madise versus Rob Font and Jose Aldo versus Cheito Vera.

1:50:45 The entire night live on ESPN Plus Main Card at 700 p.m.

1:50:48 Eastern.

1:50:49 Daniel Paneed went back to his corner badly hurt.

1:50:52 Badly hurt.

1:50:53 He seems to have recovered quite a bit and his corner

1:50:57 is calling upon them to attack that left leg of Cub Swanson.

1:51:01 That left leg is real damage, but boys, we got ourselves a fight.

1:51:06 Absolutely.

1:51:06 And Panea better start carrying those hands up.

1:51:09 I told you earlier it was almost dismissive of the power of Cub Swanson.

1:51:12 But now he better start to carry him

1:51:14 high because Cub dropped him and hurt him bad.

1:51:16 But Cub has gone straight karate style.

1:51:18 Look at this right leg forward wide stance

1:51:21 and he's trying to protect that left leg.

1:51:24 Good right hand there by Cub.

1:51:25 He hurt him again.

1:51:26 Oh, he hurt him again.

1:51:27 Joe Cubs wants heard Pana again.

1:51:33 Cub loves to fight with his hands down

1:51:35 low and those punches come from wild angles.

1:51:38 You don't see him coming.

1:51:40 And now Peda is showing the leg kicks.

1:51:43 Yes.

1:51:42 And Cub's been able to avoid him.

1:51:45 If he throws a few faints.

1:51:46 Oh, there's one.

1:51:47 If he throws a few faints, he'll hurt Peda again.

1:51:52 Oh, beautiful, beautiful entry by Peneda.

1:51:55 Fantastic takedown defense by Cub Swanson.

1:51:57 Look at him trying to move the head back to the inside.

1:51:59 He didn't allow Pana to stay on the outside with the double leg.

1:52:02 He was able to move it back into the middle.

1:52:04 And now he's got to start to work that left leg back to the mat.

1:52:07 He can't leave it up in the air.

1:52:09 He's got to get that foot back to the mat.

1:52:10 That's how you defend the single leg.

1:52:13 Got to be frustrating for Peneda after an entry

1:52:15 like that to not realize success with the taked down.

1:52:19 It's just discouraging.

1:52:20 Like you said, John, you know, you get a great entry, you seem to have him beat,

1:52:24 and the guy just hops, hops, hops, and balances and gets back to his feet.

1:52:28 Oh, that's it.

1:52:31 You got it.

1:52:34 Cubata.

1:52:37 Cub swat.

1:52:41 Out.

1:52:40 All the momentum that Daniel Peda

1:52:42 had after that spectacular victory over Herbert.

1:52:46 Cub just stole it.

1:52:47 That's gone.

1:52:48 He just snatched it up.

1:52:49 That momentum is gone because Cub Swanson just put his lights out.

1:52:54 I mean, that first right hand hurt him and the second one just finished him.

1:52:58 Wow.

1:52:59 Cub Swanson.

1:53:00 And how satisfying must this be for Cub Swanson after the time?

1:53:04 Right uppercut, right uppercut, left hook.

1:53:07 Watch the right hand.

1:53:08 Boom.

1:53:08 Here comes another one.

1:53:09 Boom.

1:53:10 Go to sleep.

1:53:11 I mean, Cub Swanson looked great.

1:53:13 And you know, he threw this right uppercut.

1:53:16 Little left hand touches him and then he just puts him out.

1:53:19 Cub Swanson, man, what a performance.

1:53:22 And now that's two in a row.

1:53:24 Uh-oh.

1:53:25 Uh-oh.

1:53:26 Oh, I start scratching my leg.

1:53:27 My leg started itching.

1:53:29 Ah, that's when I'm reaching down like,

1:53:31 "Oh my goodness, Cub Swanson, put the dude out.

1:53:34 I should have put some lotion on the back of my ass."

1:53:39 And you see the emotions spilling out.

1:53:41 The father of three, Cub Swanson,

1:53:45 Royal Saint and King's daddy getting it done in a big way tonight.

1:53:48 And had to battle through some adversity, Joe.

1:53:50 You saw them put the ice on that

1:53:52 leg was getting lit up.

1:53:54 up.

1:53:54 I mean, we had said so many things coming into this fight

1:53:56 at the beginning of the fight rather that Daniel Pened looked huge.

1:53:59 He looked so powerful.

1:54:00 He was clearly so confident coming off the Herbert

1:54:03 Burns victory and the leg kicks were on fire,

1:54:05 but Cub Swanson found that one right hand

1:54:08 in the first round and then those shots in the second.

1:54:11 12th UFC win for killer Cub Swanson.

1:54:13 Bruce Buffer now to make it official.

1:54:16 Ladies and gentlemen,

1:54:17 referee Mark Smith has called a stop to this contest

1:54:19 at 1 minute 52 seconds of round number two.

1:54:23 declaring the winner by knockout.

1:54:27 Cuban Valley, where you at?

1:54:35 Cub Swanson gets his 12th career win by knockout or TKO.

1:54:39 He was an underdog here tonight.

1:54:41 And as a provider for three young children,

1:54:45 this is just a huge result for Cub Swanson.

1:54:47 And you put that torn ACL injury in the distant rearview mirror.

1:54:52 Cub Swanson's back in a big way tonight, boys.

1:54:55 Oh yeah, John.

1:54:55 I mean, he's back.

1:54:57 He's feeling good.

1:54:58 And look, when you got three kids at home,

1:54:59 that wind bonus feel real good on you when you're heading back.

1:55:02 I mean, mama's more understanding when you go in the train.

1:55:05 See, Blair,

1:55:08 get your fix in now, folks.

1:55:09 Six more fights in the year that is 2021.

1:55:12 And Darren Elkins and Cub Swanson couldn't find two better,

1:55:16 more entertaining fighters to start this main car.

1:55:19 This fight clock is brought to you by the United States Marine Corps.

1:55:22 Cub Swanson is in white.

1:55:24 Elkins is in blue.

1:55:25 Cub Swanson looks like just a big ball of energy just waiting to be unleashed.

1:55:33 Hands are low supremely confident trying to lull Elkins into a trap.

1:55:39 Swanson the favorite at minus 160 in the matchup.

1:55:42 Elkins a small underdog of plus 140.

1:55:45 That is nothing new for Elkins.

1:55:47 Oh, overhand right.

1:55:49 Big shot.

1:55:51 That's what Cubs got to be careful with.

1:55:52 All that energy.

1:55:53 You have your family here.

1:55:54 That's all great motivation like you said, Michael.

1:55:56 But at a cost, a lot of wasted energy potentially.

1:56:01 And he's trying to lull Elkins in, you know, with the hands low, of course.

1:56:05 And of course, with the hands being low, it's good for defending takedowns.

1:56:09 He's got to be careful, though.

1:56:10 First shot from Elkins.

1:56:12 I think Elkins is bleeding already, to be completely honest with you.

1:56:15 Acknowledged.

1:56:17 I mean, when I get my name announced, the blood starts flowing.

1:56:20 Well, he's got so much scar tissue.

1:56:22 Yeah, that's that's it's what it is.

1:56:23 I mean, those look at the pop though and the precision from Cub Swanson.

1:56:29 He's beautiful to watch right now.

1:56:32 I'm sure there's a massive crowd of people at UFC Jim Costa Mesa.

1:56:35 The gym look falls forward.

1:56:39 He's wobbles.

1:56:40 Was trying to grab a leg.

1:56:42 Elkins is no easy guy to put away, but Swanson is a sniper right now.

1:56:47 Yeah.

1:56:48 And a powerful explosive sniper.

1:56:52 He knows he's faster.

1:56:53 He knows he's slicker.

1:56:54 He knows he's got the advantages, but against a guy like Elkins,

1:56:58 you still can't take it for granted

1:57:00 that nothing's going to come back offensively.

1:57:03 He's been caught a couple of times.

1:57:04 Elkins won't give up.

1:57:06 Elkins finds a way to make it a fight.

1:57:10 He's often outmatched in terms of athletic ability.

1:57:13 Oh my god.

1:57:15 Oh my goodness.

1:57:16 That might end it.

1:57:18 He doesn't even know where Cub is.

1:57:20 Wow.

1:57:20 Swanson really could have fired a kill shot there on his way up.

1:57:23 Yeah.

1:57:23 But Cub being smart.

1:57:24 He's taking his time.

1:57:25 He doesn't want to rush this.

1:57:28 For a highlight.

1:57:29 That's going to do it.

1:57:31 Swanson with a big smile.

1:57:34 And now looking at his three children and his wife Kenda.

1:57:37 Octagon side.

1:57:38 What a moment for Cub Swanson to get back in the win column.

1:57:43 What a moment.

1:57:44 What a performance.

1:57:47 What a finish.

1:57:49 Well, you just felt the tension that he was feeling on his way in the octagon,

1:57:53 but he was letting it flow in there.

1:57:56 Those shots were fast.

1:57:57 They were on the button.

1:57:58 They were explosive, powerful, and they were measured as well.

1:58:02 He picked those.

1:58:02 He wasn't just winging it right from the start.

1:58:05 It was like a little ball of energy just looking for that knockout blow.

1:58:08 Elkins being as tough as he is took a few.

1:58:11 But look at that.

1:58:11 Wasn't even flush.

1:58:13 Fortunately for Elkins, but Herb Dean knew, listen,

1:58:16 it's only a matter of time before the man goes down.

1:58:18 Save him from any more damage.

1:58:21 Well, get ready for the waterworks because his corner

1:58:25 went and grabbed his kids and his children

1:58:27 will be in the octagon with him after we

1:58:29 come back to make this decision official after this.

1:58:40 Go on, daddy.

1:58:53 What's your name?

1:58:55 Royal.

1:58:55 Royal.

1:58:55 Thank you.

1:58:57 Amazing.

1:58:58 Amazing, man.

1:58:58 So happy for it.

1:59:01 Thank you.

1:59:03 do an interview, folks.

1:59:26 We're done.

1:59:30 What am I doing?

1:59:37 UFC Fight Night is presented by P3, the official protein snack of UFC.

1:59:44 Cup Swanson by TKO.

1:59:47 In the first round, this official decision is

1:59:49 brought to you by the United States Marine Corps.

1:59:52 Here's Joe Martinez.

1:59:53 Ladies and gentlemen, the income comes officially.

1:59:55 2 minutes 12 seconds.

1:59:57 Round number one.

1:59:57 We have your winner by TKO, K Swansson.

2:00:05 More Simon inside the octagon tonight for Jason Herszog.

2:00:10 Thank you, Brooklyn.

2:00:15 Keb Swanson loose as a goose.

2:00:19 Ready?

2:00:18 In the backyard of Billy Corillo.

2:00:20 Moved here in 20 when he was 21 years old.

2:00:23 He is now 36.

2:00:25 lives about 15 minutes from the arena and trying

2:00:28 to fulfill a lifelong dream of winning in his home city.

2:00:33 And this is so typical from Cob.

2:00:35 That's what you'll see.

2:00:36 Hands low, very, very confident.

2:00:40 And Billy's right.

2:00:40 He will blitz in.

2:00:42 He covers a lot of distance in a short amount of time.

2:00:46 Very explosive striker.

2:00:48 BJJ Blackwell, tremendous experience as well.

2:00:52 But Damon Jackson, he really impressed me in his win over

2:00:57 sorry, Billy Q impressed me with his win over Damon Jackson.

2:01:00 Had a hard opening round.

2:01:02 You know, got wobble, took a lot of shots,

2:01:03 but really bit down on that mouthpiece in rounds

2:01:06 two and three in the hard for victory.

2:01:10 Definitely a speed advantage here for Cub Swanson.

2:01:13 Last few right hands already.

2:01:15 And those hands low that that helps Cub cuz they those shots come out.

2:01:20 You don't see them coming.

2:01:25 found a counter there as cup blitzed in.

2:01:29 Swanson has had success in this building.

2:01:31 Fought Corn Gracie on a big win 5 years ago when we were last here.

2:01:36 Got the fight of the night.

2:01:39 Still going strong at 41 years old.

2:01:43 Potentially for the last time tonight.

2:01:52 touch.

2:01:52 Get off the bench.

2:01:53 Play his defense.

2:01:54 Play his defense.

2:02:01 Snap down the middle.

2:02:02 Snap down the middle.

2:02:06 Oh, look at that one shot.

2:02:12 Dips low.

2:02:12 Came around with the right.

2:02:13 He's done that a couple of times early.

2:02:17 Well, it's just so unconventional.

2:02:18 So, Billy Hugh can't really make the reads.

2:02:21 The hands alone.

2:02:23 It's a beautiful faint,

2:02:25 you know, and he's fainting with a purpose.

2:02:27 He's fainting to set something up.

2:02:29 He's not fainting just for the sake of fainting that sometimes people do.

2:02:32 They're just moving morely.

2:02:35 Backed him up with the left.

2:02:39 Oh, cop flowing back.

2:02:41 Oh,

2:02:44 and that right hand is lands another combination.

2:02:48 This fight living up to the hype.

2:02:50 Comes enjoying himself.

2:02:54 Swanson has a weak along the fence.

2:02:58 He can't miss with that right hand.

2:03:00 He's got to be careful.

2:03:02 He's got to be careful though.

2:03:04 Be defensively minded as well at the end of the combinations.

2:03:08 Pretty good batting average near 60% in strikes landed so far for Swanson.

2:03:18 Two minutes left.

2:03:19 Two minutes.

2:03:30 Solid kick there from Swanson.

2:03:32 You can hear it from here.

2:03:33 Really loud.

2:03:38 Now, this is what Billy Q's got to try to do.

2:03:41 Got to try to force come back.

2:03:44 Keep an eye on that right hand because it's coming from down low,

2:03:46 but over the top and landing right down the middle.

2:03:50 He doesn't even throw an overhand necessarily.

2:03:52 He kind of just arcs it up

2:03:54 and straight down right between the guard right there.

2:03:57 Another one.

2:03:58 Dean Thomas go.

2:04:00 Yeah, Billy is just not seeing that punch.

2:04:02 what he needs to do.

2:04:03 If you can't see the punch, just start walking in the opposite direction.

2:04:07 At least it won't hit you with the full with the full blunt of the punch.

2:04:11 Billy Q standing right in front of him and he's taking the full right hand.

2:04:14 He needs to start walking to his right.

2:04:18 One minute to go.

2:04:19 First round.

2:04:22 Yeah, Cubans is having a field day here.

2:04:24 That's why the hands are low.

2:04:25 He's so relaxed.

2:04:26 He's smiling.

2:04:27 He's taking a few shots, but he's definitely in control.

2:04:35 chops the leg and elimination for able to land some damage too.

2:04:42 Yeah, that wiped the green off his face.

2:04:46 Striking numbers close through 4 and 1/2 minutes.

2:04:53 Now Billy's starting to really chop the legs a bit here, too.

2:04:56 Yeah, he is.

2:04:58 Oh, Robinson with the right.

2:05:00 Now, Portillo on the offensive.

2:05:08 Down for a taked down attempt in the final 10 of round one.

2:05:12 Scoops him and gets it.

2:05:14 Might go to it earlier in round two.

2:05:18 What a first round.

2:05:19 Don't miss round two.

2:05:26 You have the store.

2:05:27 Store.

2:05:28 Okay, never mind.

2:05:33 Hell yeah, you are.

2:05:34 You're landing big.

2:05:35 You're landing big.

2:05:36 So, what I need is a little more touching.

2:05:38 All right.

2:05:38 So, in the mix.

2:05:39 In the mix.

2:05:40 When you want to land big, you land big.

2:05:41 But in between, don't let them score.

2:05:44 You're good.

2:05:44 You're good.

2:05:45 Cuz you're having fun.

2:05:46 Cuz you're having fun.

2:05:47 Very nice.

2:05:48 Small.

2:05:49 Not bad.

2:05:52 Yep.

2:05:53 Great.

2:05:54 Great.

2:05:54 We're not following that angle.

2:05:56 Side to side.

2:05:56 Stay behind your jab.

2:05:57 I need that.

2:05:58 Right.

2:05:58 That's big and go.

2:05:59 The left hook is working.

2:06:00 Left hook is what?

2:06:01 It's work, right?

2:06:02 Left hook is working.

2:06:03 Te's are working, too.

2:06:04 If if he hits you or something, throw the teeth.

2:06:05 It makes him go back.

2:06:06 The team's just even if you miss, he backs up when you keep it.

2:06:08 Great job.

2:06:09 He was hurt at the end of that round.

2:06:10 So, continue on.

2:06:12 Let's go, baby.

2:06:13 Let's go.

2:06:14 Let's go, guys.

2:06:21 Good.

2:06:21 All right, two of the most talented violent grapplers

2:06:26 in the sport vi for the title at UFC 311.

2:06:28 Lightweight King Islam Machez squares off with Arman Sukion.

2:06:31 Plus for the pante title, the Rob Dwalis really defends against Nagame.

2:06:40 $10 off.

2:06:41 Head to espress.com/pppv.

2:06:44 So what we saw there in round one,

2:06:46 of course, Cup sponsor open landing some great shots.

2:06:50 But as the round finished, we saw put in a little bit of danger.

2:06:53 And that's what happens as you get older.

2:06:56 41 years old, the amount of fights that he's had.

2:07:00 45 professional fights, I think it is.

2:07:03 It just it just has an effect on and you

2:07:06 can't take shots quite as well as you could

2:07:08 when you were younger and in your prime.

2:07:10 That's just a fact of life.

2:07:11 Yeah.

2:07:11 Cornell starting to land.

2:07:15 Now, I'm not saying Cub's going to lose because it's still anybody's fight.

2:07:20 Oh, got that right hand through as well there.

2:07:23 Frantic exchange.

2:07:24 Now they clinch to the fence.

2:07:36 Do not grab though.

2:07:41 Yeah.

2:07:45 And he's still smiling.

2:07:46 And that was a big right hand.

2:07:49 Two rights, a third.

2:07:51 I mean, it's awesome.

2:07:52 It really is.

2:07:53 Puts once in.

2:07:56 What a fighter.

2:07:57 He's an alltime.

2:07:58 Yeah, he is.

2:08:00 And this is what you get from him every time he's been inside the arena, man.

2:08:05 Unorthodox striking.

2:08:06 So powerful.

2:08:08 Yeah, but it's really, really technical.

2:08:09 When you say unorthodox, sometimes that can seem like bit of a an insult.

2:08:13 He's he's a true martial artist.

2:08:17 Oh yeah, he makes it work.

2:08:19 Yeah, he does.

2:08:20 It's beautiful and he's dedicated his entire life to his craft.

2:08:25 He's got quite the story.

2:08:27 Oh, big knee.

2:08:29 That wobbled tried to come up with another one.

2:08:34 Oh, landed a right hand.

2:08:35 Billy Q starting to really get into this fight here.

2:08:37 Well, this is a Billy Q fight, too,

2:08:39 because he takes punishment early, but he does not tire out.

2:08:43 He is known for being able to just

2:08:48 sprint and sprint for as long as the fight lasts.

2:08:52 Yeah.

2:08:52 Weather the storm, you know, and he's so tough.

2:08:57 Oh, beautiful uppercut there from Corantel.

2:09:00 He's got to be careful though.

2:09:01 He doesn't want to get too reckless, but he's starting to wear on C.

2:09:06 Swanson had the hands locked for a moment.

2:09:08 Halfway through round two,

2:09:12 has responded after eating some big shots in round one.

2:09:15 And now they're trading champs.

2:09:22 Nice technical work from Cub.

2:09:24 Moving the head, falling under the shots.

2:09:26 Still landed.

2:09:29 Seems they got a little less sting on them now, though.

2:09:39 back on this single leg.

2:09:40 He wasn't able to get it last time.

2:09:41 Breaks it, but he's landed some nice elbows when he's in this close, too.

2:09:46 And all that knee that he landed on cover really staggered him.

2:09:50 Turn your hand around.

2:09:52 Oh, now he's locked.

2:09:57 And this is the type of pace that Cornell wants to set,

2:10:02 start to really wear on Cub.

2:10:03 And again, we can't forget Cub's an absolute monster, but he is 41 years old.

2:10:07 And like he talked about, priority number one is no longer fighting.

2:10:11 And this is when that starts to come into play.

2:10:14 When we're in the second round, things start to get really grimy.

2:10:18 Yeah.

2:10:18 And Billy Q now just kind of slowly taking over here.

2:10:24 And this is what Billy Q does.

2:10:26 I mean, against Damon Jackson, I said it before,

2:10:28 tough opening round, weathers the storm, comes back.

2:10:31 Supreme conditioning, very good skills of his own as well,

2:10:34 and clearly as tough as they come.

2:10:36 And this is an absolute dog fight.

2:10:38 Now, Billy's hurt talked about that.

2:10:42 He said that Billy likes to dip off to that side.

2:10:46 Oh, big knee for Corillo.

2:10:50 What a fight.

2:10:51 Yes.

2:10:56 Reminiscent of the fight that got him into the UFC Hall of Fame

2:11:00 for Cub Swanson when he challenged Duho Troy and won UFC 206.

2:11:04 Back to Toronto.

2:11:05 Yeah, Billy's got to be careful here.

2:11:07 Cook might take the back.

2:11:08 Good scramble.

2:11:10 Tries to hit the switch.

2:11:12 Go back to the feet.

2:11:13 Very well.

2:11:14 Blocks the back take.

2:11:27 Nice little foot stop there from Cornell.

2:11:32 Got to have it continue to round three.

2:11:35 What a pleasure.

2:11:39 Good job,[ __] Good job.

2:11:47 We're really having fun now.

2:11:49 You're doing great.

2:11:53 Hey, forearms.

2:11:54 Forearms.

2:11:56 Rub them out.

2:11:56 Rub them out.

2:11:57 A little bit.

2:11:58 Nice and loose.

2:11:59 Rub them out.

2:12:00 You can't stay in the middle.

2:12:01 Okay.

2:12:02 Hey, you're having fun.

2:12:04 Good exchanges.

2:12:04 You're doing great.

2:12:05 We need your vision better on that exchange.

2:12:07 Uh, coach, grappling advice for Cub.

2:12:09 Looking good.

2:12:09 Looking good.

2:12:10 Just take your time like you did.

2:12:11 If he goes grapple, control him like you did.

2:12:13 No rush.

2:12:14 Very nice.

2:12:15 Five more minutes.

2:12:15 Okay.

2:12:16 Hey, five more minutes.

2:12:17 When we're on the cage, this is the round to catch him leaning right here.

2:12:20 Okay.

2:12:21 One of those mixups, you know, don't be afraid to follow a head kick.

2:12:25 Hey, right here.

2:12:26 Ice coach.

2:12:27 Coach Ice.

2:12:28 Hey, go have fun and go get it,[ __] Hey, be great.

2:12:31 Be great for five minutes.

2:12:33 Be great for five minutes.

2:12:57 Third and final round.

2:13:01 Swanson hinted this week it might be his last one.

2:13:03 I don't want to make any decisions for him,

2:13:05 but I do want everybody to enjoy it if

2:13:08 it is the final round in a legendary career.

2:13:10 Well, I'll tell you what.

2:13:11 What a fight.

2:13:12 What a performance.

2:13:13 I mean, from both men.

2:13:15 This is what mixed martial arts is all about.

2:13:18 This fights like this is why the UFC

2:13:21 is the best fight promotion on planet Earth.

2:13:23 I mean, nowhere else will you get stuff like this.

2:13:26 Two men, supreme conditioning, just going at it.

2:13:30 Skill, heart, determination.

2:13:33 It's beautiful to see.

2:13:37 And Cup has found the energy again here in the third,

2:13:39 at least in the opening of round.

2:13:45 Nice combination there.

2:13:46 Double jab right hand.

2:13:48 Comes in.

2:13:50 Yeah, he had a couple of nasty shots in round two.

2:13:54 That knee kind of wobbled him.

2:13:56 Definitely a few concerning moments in round two,

2:13:58 but he seems fully with it here.

2:14:10 limb legs out and out.

2:14:11 Very nice.

2:14:14 And these guys are wearing it, too.

2:14:19 There's that right hand again.

2:14:20 And another one.

2:14:23 Had success with that.

2:14:25 Simpson comes turning back the clock with a walk-off.

2:14:32 One, two.

2:14:34 Unbelievable.

2:14:35 Amazing.

2:14:37 41 years old.

2:14:39 An absolute war back and forth and then sleeps it.

2:14:44 Clean right hand.

2:14:51 Wow.

2:14:51 Killer K Swanson.

2:14:54 an absolute legend.

2:14:58 I think his wife Kenda's heart skipped a beat.

2:15:00 Safe to say that Billy Q at home in Tampa.

2:15:06 Feel for him with that result.

2:15:07 He put forth a wonderful effort.

2:15:10 It was the 101st strike that Cub Swanson landed.

2:15:14 Probably that right hand right there that he

2:15:16 was landing all night long with precision.

2:15:20 But in round three, that's the one that got it done.

2:15:23 A beautiful shot.

2:15:24 Let's take a look here.

2:15:26 Left hook.

2:15:26 Boom.

2:15:27 That's just to set up that right.

2:15:29 And straight away, the moment it connected, Billy Quarantilo was done.

2:15:34 Left hook.

2:15:35 Right hand.

2:15:36 And Cub knows it.

2:15:37 Stands over.

2:15:39 Doesn't follow up.

2:15:40 He knows it's done.

2:15:41 He knows it's over.

2:15:43 He knows he's the winner.

2:15:48 Look at this.

2:15:51 Clean right hand.

2:15:52 And that is the that is the punch that Cub had been landing over and over again.

2:15:57 Throughout this fight, he got tested and pushed hard in round two.

2:16:02 Still landed some good shots and then came out.

2:16:04 Great corner advice telling him, "Listen, you got to be great for five minutes."

2:16:09 Well, he didn't need it.

2:16:12 Unbelievable.

2:16:14 I love how you know I don't know what he's going to do,

2:16:19 but if you were going to retire off of a high note, that's it right there.

2:16:23 He wanted was a definitive result, win or lose.

2:16:28 Well, definitive time now for the official decision brought to you by Bud Light,

2:16:31 official beer sponsor of the UFC.

2:16:35 What a fight.

2:16:37 Here's Bruce Buffer.

2:16:40 Ladies and gentlemen, referee Jason Herszog has called a stop to this contest

2:16:44 at 1 minute 36 seconds of round number three.
