figuring out my 20s: adjusting to adulthood

figuring out my 20s: adjusting to adulthood

Sydney Serena

0:02 Our green chef me [music] up.

0:10 [music]

0:13 I feel like nobody talks about what your 20s [music] are actually like.

0:17 They're a lot harder than it looks.

0:19 I feel like I'm always second-guessing my career.

0:21 I'm still trying to make new friends in my 20s, which is hard.

0:24 Moving to a new city alone post-grad.

0:26 I decided I just want to start documenting it

0:28 and kind of figuring it out as I go.

0:30 I don't want this to be deep.

0:32 I just want it to be [music] honest.

0:33 And this is me just figuring out my 20s, except I'm filming it.

0:42 [music] Starting off strong, the daily routine we already know by now.

0:48 I go to coffee shops to work because I need

0:50 to get out of my apartment at least once a day.

0:52 I don't know what this says about me,

0:55 but I'm significantly more productive when I leave.

0:57 And I also just feel honestly a little

0:58 bit less lonely being around other people,

1:00 [music] even if I'm not interacting with them.

1:02 And it's almost like I have co-workers this way cuz I'm,

1:05 you [music] know, I work by myself a lot.

1:07 I guess co-workers might be a stretch, but you know what I'm saying.

1:10 Never in my life have I had strawberry tea.

1:13 I think I'm going to be getting it often.

1:15 I didn't even know this existed.

1:16 I don't know if I'm like the only one.

1:17 [music] My new fixation is going to be this.

1:22 So.

1:30 One of the stranger things for me, stranger things.

1:34 Not talking about the show.

1:35 I have to like schedule almost my calls now with my friends,

1:38 with my like mom, my brother.

1:40 As I get older, everyone's like so busy and I

1:43 still want to make time for the people that I love,

1:46 but feel like I don't call people on a whim as much anymore.

1:49 Like I have to like really be intentional about it.

1:51 Enough to say, I'm calling my mom on her lunch

1:53 break at work just to say hi because I miss her.

1:57 Hi.

1:59 [music] I should work on planning the trip a little bit tonight.

2:02 Something really low.

2:04 Yeah, right.

2:05 Everything now like I absolutely dread cleaning out my closet.

2:11 I hate it.

2:11 I hate it.

2:12 I think I just like hate making decisions.

2:14 I'm so indecisive.

2:15 I feel like I can't let go of these clothes.

2:17 Even if I haven't worn something for 6 months,

2:19 I feel some sort of deep attachment to it and I can't get rid of it.

2:23 I really should I'm starting to think I should unpack that at a later time.

2:26 I try to do like mini little resets of my closet every

2:30 couple months versus once a year doing [music] a whole clean out.

2:33 I think it's like a lot easier that way.

2:34 Being in my 20s truly is just full of mini resets.

2:38 I'm constantly be resetting something.

2:42 [music] [music]

2:51 I actually found this organization that comes and picks up my donations for me.

2:55 I usually do it like once a month, so it's been really helpful and kind of just

2:58 like makes me more motivated to get rid of stuff.

3:00 I know this doesn't look that drastic, but I have two piles.

3:02 This one is a pile of stuff that I need to get hemmed.

3:05 Unfortunately, all of my pants need to get hemmed.

3:07 If you guys have any like short girl pants brands,

3:10 very niche, let me know because this is always my issue.

3:13 And then this pile is stuff that I'm donating.

3:16 I already feel like 30 times better after that.

3:18 My mind feels like so much clearer.

3:21 I am going to get ready though because

3:23 I'm going to go to a little SoulCycle class.

3:25 I do need to make some dinner prior, but I've been trying to push myself out

3:28 of my comfort zone a little bit with my workouts.

3:31 Specifically, I'm trying to go to like new

3:33 or just different workout classes than I usually do.

3:36 Honestly, a lot of it I think for me is social.

3:39 I find that I meet new people at classes.

3:41 I like make new friends.

3:43 Well, honestly actually I never really make friends, but that's the point.

3:46 That's what I'm trying to do.

3:47 Not even friends, I guess.

3:48 I'm just trying to like socialize a little bit more.

3:50 I haven't gone to SoulCycle in I think like over 2 years.

3:54 It's been so long.

3:55 So, I impromptu signed up for a class 20 minutes ago for later tonight.

3:59 So, I'm just going to chill for a bit and then I think start dinner soon.

4:02 I have a special delivery.

4:05 I'm making dinner for my boyfriend and I.

4:07 It's kind of become like our little routine.

4:09 He'll come over after work.

4:10 I make our Green Chef meal.

4:11 I'm really excited to be working with Green Chef again.

4:14 They take care of the grocery shopping, the meal prep,

4:17 all of the like dirty work that I don't like just have to put it together.

4:21 One of my favorite things is that you

4:22 can customize your box based on your wellness goals.

4:25 They have a ton of different options like Mediterranean,

4:27 high fiber, high protein.

4:29 And tonight we're going to try their turmeric turkey tajine.

4:32 I was even telling my mom to order her first box.

4:34 I was trying to convince her and I think she already ordered it.

4:59 Let's get to work.

5:02 [music] [music] [music] Smells good.

5:16 All right, it is time to make the sauce now.

5:21 [music] [music] This may be wrong of me,

5:27 but I was so excited to try this that I didn't wait for him.

5:31 I just tried a little bit while I was waiting

5:33 for him to come home from work and it was so good.

5:35 Dinner is ready.

5:37 I served it up.

5:38 This is so good, guys.

5:39 He doesn't even know the best meal he's about to have is this.

5:43 Safe to say we did [music] both love it

5:45 and we had just such a great little date night together.

5:50 I just said a whole like 2-minute spiel

5:52 and I realized I didn't even press record.

5:54 So, here I go again.

5:56 I'm on my way to a SoulCycle class.

5:58 Cannot remember the last time I was in a SoulCycle class,

6:01 and I kind of forget how to like strap in and like

6:04 do the whole like getting yourself in the bike situation.

6:07 Little nervous about that, but you know what?

6:09 I'm just going to ask for help.

6:10 Whenever I just try to do things on my own,

6:12 it's just like why don't I ask for help?

6:14 Humility is a strength.

6:16 Okay, well, I'm inspiring right now.

6:18 I tried to ask a couple of my friends if they could go with me,

6:20 but cuz it was so last minute, none of them could.

6:23 And that's all right, you know?

6:24 That is okay.

6:26 I think it's good to do things alone.

6:36 [music] I've discovered SoulCycle classes are one of the harder places to film.

6:40 I can't really just like whip out my phone in the middle of a cycling class.

6:43 I feel um very out of shape, actually, reflecting on this.

6:49 [music] Um so, my butt is sore.

6:54 I forgot that that happens when you sit on a bike

6:56 after not having sat on a bike um in a while.

6:58 So, something about SoulCycle I love.

7:01 I actually missed it so much, and I think I want to go back more.

7:05 I usually try to go to classes with like artists or playlists that I like.

7:10 This time, I just kind of signed up super last minute,

7:12 so I went to a random one.

7:14 So, this one ended up being 2000s throwbacks,

7:16 and it kind of just reminded me of all the songs

7:18 that I heard in Applebee's when I was a child.

7:20 There is such thing as Applebee's music, okay?

7:23 I don't know how to explain it.

7:24 I don't know if anyone relates, [clears throat] but there are certain songs

7:27 like Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson, perfect [music] example.

7:30 It's an Applebee's song, and it always will be an Applebee's song.

7:33 Love that song.

7:34 I really do.

7:35 Anyways, I think I'm back on my SoulCycle journey.

7:38 So, you guys will probably be seeing that in my upcoming vlogs.

7:42 I'm already looking at the new schedule and trying to see the classes coming up.

7:45 Tate McRae.

7:46 I'm getting ready to go to an art cafe with my roommate and friend Olivia.

7:51 Finding activities you can do with your friends are just sometimes like so

7:54 much more fun than just going out to get food [music] all the time.

7:57 You kind of just like go there.

7:58 It's almost like a restaurant,

7:59 but like you order on the menu the type of art that you want to make.

8:03 It's been a while since I've been there, so [music] I'm really excited.

8:06 I love a little girls night and I feel so

8:08 refreshed and I feel so good after my little workout, so

8:14 [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music]

8:51 The art cafe was I would say it was a success for me.

8:54 I was happy [music] with my little cards and you know,

8:58 one of my like love languages now I've realized is gift giving.

9:01 So I thought why not like make some personalized

9:03 cards for my friends for their birthdays and stuff.

9:05 Are they like Picasso level?

9:06 No.

9:08 No.

9:08 And you know what?

9:10 They never will be.

9:10 Even if you don't have a type of cafe like

9:12 this near you because like growing up in Minnesota for me,

9:14 there was not stuff like this close by.

9:16 You can like organize stuff like this with your friends.

9:18 Like go out, get the stuff for it.

9:20 You don't like need to go somewhere expensive.

9:21 [music] I am going to upgrade my microphone soon.

9:33 It's a pending project my my team's working on it.

9:37 My team is myself.

9:38 It is overdue for a little advice segment on here.

9:42 So, I thought I would read a DM.

9:44 You guys know I do this anonymously.

9:46 I'm 25 and I feel like I chose the wrong career path.

9:49 Everyone around me seems so confident and I feel stuck.

9:52 How did you know what you wanted to do?

9:54 There is so much pressure in our 20s [music]

9:57 and late teens to know exactly what we're going to do

10:00 and expectations that like for some reason we're going to know

10:02 exactly what we want to do by the time we graduate.

10:05 And that is [music] not realistic.

10:07 I don't think your 20s are about choosing perfectly right away.

10:10 I think it's about trying things and testing

10:12 things and seeing kind of what you [music] like.

10:14 You're allowed to pivot, you're allowed to change your mind,

10:16 you're allowed to try different things and like outgrow maybe a career

10:20 that you once thought you wanted after trying it for a little bit.

10:23 And I think trying something even if you learn that you don't like it,

10:26 that is a success because then you learn

10:28 something about yourself and you learn what you like

10:31 and what you're good at or maybe what

10:32 you don't like and what you're not good at.

10:34 And any information I think [music] is valuable.

10:36 For me, I know some of you might think that I never

10:39 have questioned my career and that this just fell into my lap.

10:42 Obviously, I feel so grateful.

10:43 I can't even begin to explain.

10:45 But there's a lot of times especially

10:46 after I graduated college where I questioned,

10:48 you know, is this something I want to still do?

10:51 Am I going to burn out?

10:52 Like I've been doing this for 10 years.

10:54 Is this [music] like the right career path for me still?

10:57 I still question myself honestly all of the time.

10:59 Everyone seems so successful nowadays and with social media especially,

11:03 it just seems like everybody's doing so well.

11:06 For me, college and like learning about different areas drew me to a lot

11:09 of different things that I might potentially want to do in the future.

11:12 But for now, I really enjoy what I'm doing and I'm so happy.

11:15 [music] Yeah, I just try not to put

11:16 too much pressure on yourself and try things.

11:18 That's my best advice.

11:19 Anyways, [music] I love you guys.

11:21 I'm going to go to sleep.

11:22 I'm falling asleep I think as I'm saying this.

11:25 Thanks for watching and I'll see you in my next video.

11:28 Bye.

11:34 [music] [music] Mhm.
