2:36 Uh the part about uh Barkley not wanting to be him in a in a Rockets uniform.

2:43 of that about talking about the end of cuz you know,

2:45 Barkley was talking about the end of the Warriors run.

2:49 Um and Draymond had a had a fascinating

2:52 appearance sitting in Shaq's chair last night.

2:54 Yeah.

2:55 What what did you make of that comment in Charles's direction?

2:58 I mean, well, to me, I love watching both of those guys

3:00 together cuz Draymond's one of the most entertaining,

3:03 you know, guys in the game.

3:04 And so, when when I heard him say that, you know,

3:07 I looked at it as a joke, you know,

3:08 cuz I'm sure if we look at some of his statistics during those games,

3:13 I'm sure Barkley had some monster games.

3:16 But one thing Draymond has correct is that I think, you know,

3:19 maybe it compares to an old boxer looking

3:21 at his self because I know a lot of, you know,

3:24 my peers when we look at that last year, you know, it's it's kind of hard.

3:30 Your body is different.

3:32 Sagging in areas it wouldn't.

3:34 Your recuperating time is different.

3:36 And so, you can't have bounce back games

3:38 like you used to after back-to-backs, you know.

3:40 And so, I think what he was saying about Barkley wasn't

3:43 necessarily just the skill cuz Barkley was still killing on the court.

3:47 I'm sure he averaged 18 or or something like that at least.

3:50 But, you know, the body tells a lot and for Draymond,

3:54 it was really good to see him,

3:55 you know, kind of reminisce in real time about uh the great team,

3:59 you know, that he's been on.

4:01 But, I I I truthfully love the back and forth between him and Austin Reaves.

4:04 So, it's been an entertaining week when it comes to It certainly has.

4:08 No, I know that and and Draymond's going to have a an excellent uh second

4:12 career when he gets there and then

4:13 that's the conversation right now about the Warriors.

4:15 We'll get to the playoffs in a sec.

4:17 Is, you know, again, how he kind of recalibrated what success

4:21 might mean if everyone does stay together, if Steve Kerr does in fact resign.

4:25 And obviously, Curry's not going anywhere and he if they

4:28 if they continue to run it back, he said, quote,

4:31 "Whether we win a championship or not,

4:33 I think as you get older, you have to redefine what is success.

4:36 Success may not be for us at this point a championship." He started talking

4:39 about sellout streaks and he talked about

4:42 other metrics that weren't raising a banner,

4:45 which is something you would never have said before.

4:47 Um so, that that to me was the more, you know,

4:51 obviously, he was trying to have fun at Barkley's expense.

4:53 The joke didn't really land,

4:55 but that's the thing that jumped out at me from what he said last night, Chris.

4:59 No, I hear you and let let me state this first.

5:02 Championships matter, okay?

5:05 Championships matter,

5:05 whether you're um lucky enough to play with the best center in the world

5:11 or whether you're lucky enough to have the best coach in the world.

5:14 Championships matter and and it's so hard to get a championship.

5:21 And I think that's where the discussion, you know,

5:24 where kind of goes off the rails because the focus should be a championship,

5:33 but I've never had respect for championship chasers.

5:38 And so, Draymond and meaning going to any team to team up with anybody to get

5:43 that championship cuz most of those guys

5:44 I talked to are empty because they're like,

5:46 dang, I really didn't The The city doesn't even remember that I

5:49 was on that team cuz I wasn't part of the core.

5:52 And I think what Draymond is saying is that if I'm a Golden State fan,

5:56 I know the heart that Draymond has.

5:59 I know the heart that uh Steph has.

6:02 I didn't want them to trade Klay cuz what happened?

6:06 They didn't get better for it.

6:08 And actually when you don't get better, um off the court, you don't get better.

6:14 It's like what are you accomplishing?

6:16 And so for me, I would love to see Draymond retire there.

6:20 That'll be a wonderful moment.

6:21 I mean, you damn near teared up when you saw him

6:24 and um Steph and Steve Kerr getting together in their little semicircle.

6:29 So I I I really agree like what is that success?

6:32 Is it number of sellouts?

6:33 Is it impacting the community?

6:35 Is it all this because you're going to split

6:37 it up and they won't win a championship next year?

6:39 And 2 years ago, Curry probably had in my opinion an MVP caliber season.

6:44 So are you wasting his years trying to go

6:46 find somebody that doesn't fit into this offense, that doesn't play that way?

6:51 And so um again, it was interesting to watch Draymond in real time.

6:55 You know you're going to get that honesty.

6:57 Championships matter and he has the luxury to look and say,

7:01 "Now that we've won our championships,

7:03 what are are we doing?" Because really if he leaves

7:06 and other guys leave and they leave it in disarray,

7:08 then it's going to be like a lot of teams

7:10 that have no connectivity to those greats in the past that helped

7:14 set what the tone was in the locker room and how

7:16 to be in that community and and all those things.

7:19 And I think that's what you're seeing uh from him.

7:21 It's It's It's the total impact and truthfully with those guys being together,

7:26 they can pass it off and make sure that whole

7:29 environment is ready for the next generation to come in.

7:33 They're part of, you know, uh team development.

7:36 They're part of showing uh the the younger guys what

7:39 it's about cuz when you have that example in real time,

7:41 when they get to practice, how to handle yourself,

7:43 how to get through the tough times.

7:45 That's more player development than any coach can ever do.

7:48 And so, it was really cool hearing him say that.

7:51 And that's why, truthfully, I'm glad that Dame went back to Portland.

7:55 What did Where is he going to go?

7:56 Chase and get criticized in New York for not doing it?

7:59 So, legacies matter, championships matter.

8:01 Did the Pistons not only save their season in Orlando,

8:05 but spark a championship run?

8:08 Like, what what do you think?

8:09 Um the with the East looking like a a Knicks versus Pistons or or Cavs final,

8:17 and then you see what's going on in the West.

8:20 I mean, did the Pistons save their season and spark a the run?

8:23 Chris?

8:24 I think they the I think Caleb showed why

8:27 we're not as as a basketball community taking him serious.

8:32 There's no reason we shouldn't take him serious for the MVP.

8:36 I mean, what what he did, even, you know,

8:38 Banchero in that that series with Orlando was incredible.

8:41 But to come down from 3 to 1,

8:43 to shoot the percentage that he did, to play the point guard,

8:45 and to check the best player on the floor,

8:47 I hope that the basketball world is is

8:50 is taking notice that that Cade is incredible.

8:54 He's definitely, in my opinion, top five.

8:57 And I hope that it starts an argument because even in that argument,

9:01 you know, he'll get credit by mentioning his name.

9:04 I do think the Pistons showed their toughness, their character.

9:08 And, you know, I don't look at anything

9:11 in a one-up series as them having an advantage.

9:14 Cleveland is going to get hot.

9:16 They're going to score.

9:17 When they go back, there's going to be vitriol for the coach,

9:20 there's going to be, you know, for the team.

9:22 You know, you never know who can get hurt or fouled.

9:23 And so, I think, you know, very honestly, I think, you know,

9:26 the Pistons are have an advantage,

9:28 but I think it's going to go to game six or seven.

9:30 And so, but they're, you know, I think in the right mental place.

9:33 They just came down from 3 to 1, so they know not to take any game for granted,

9:36 but uh I love what New York is doing and how they're playing.

9:40 I think that, you know,

9:42 this is the moment that you wait uh that Mike Brown has an impact.

9:46 And the reason why he has an impact is

9:48 because guys and players can control their own effort.

9:51 And so all the talk about this isn't a Thibodeau defensive team.

9:55 Uh Thibodeau is one of the greatest defensive mind ever,

9:58 but this isn't a Thibodeau defensive team

10:00 and this isn't that that's the effort of the guys.

10:02 You know, it's it's only so many defensive strategies.

10:05 You trap the ball, you send it down.

10:06 It's about your effort and and and do you commit to your coaches ways?

10:11 The way that we see Brown now is that you don't

10:13 just have Jaylen hopefully standing around trying to get tough shots.

10:17 They got more movement, getting out in the break.

10:20 They're not taking their time when they get a rebound.

10:22 The first thing they do is push it to get some easy shots and sometimes it

10:26 looks ugly and most of the time it's

10:28 efficient because it keeps the guys in a pace.

10:31 And I think now is where you're going to see uh you know,

10:34 the the excellence of Mike Brown's coaching who

10:37 is from the tree of Bert Bernie Bickerstaff.

10:39 He was with us in Washington.

10:41 He was with uh Popovich and he was with Kerr.

10:43 So do not sleep on his offensive acumen

10:46 and I think you're about to see, you know,

10:48 some explosive games from the Knicks because of how they're

10:51 going to play and how they're going to speed you up.

10:54 Yeah, I mean you I guess in the playoffs as you

10:57 point out anything anybody can get hurt and things can change.

11:01 Um so the narrative that the Knicks found something and then

11:04 last night OG gets hurt at the end and you know,

11:08 their their streak of uh boat racing teams ended last night although they won.

11:13 And now the Spurs you can flip a script from game one to game two.

11:16 Defensively they figured something out.

11:18 There's a report that Gregg Popovich was involved

11:21 in a film session and that he might have,

11:24 you know, uh diagnosed something that the Spurs were able to put in a place.

11:28 The Oklahoma City Thunder, um you know,

11:31 there are some metrics from the Lakers that they you know, holding SGA under 20,

11:36 turning them over 16 times that if they make three-point shots or buckets,

11:42 if Reeves made a few more buckets here or there you know,

11:44 it does seem to be on a razor's edge right now in these playoffs, Chris, right?

11:49 That's That's That's And that's why we love it.

11:51 And with the Lakers, you know, it's easy when things are going well,

11:55 but you see greatness, you know, when when the team needs you most and to me,

12:00 all the arguments about LeBron James and where he fits in you know,

12:05 this these these type of games by him to me is what solidifies him.

12:09 You already know he's great.

12:11 But, I mean, how how does he have

12:12 to keep proving consistency when he's the oldest guy

12:16 on the floor and knows how to be efficient

12:18 and knows how to make the most of each possession.

12:21 And and I just I know younger guys are looking at him,

12:24 but I hope younger guys on all teams

12:26 look at him because he doesn't waste dribbles,

12:28 he doesn't waste shots, he gets guys involved.

12:31 And right now, I think I think the Lakers, you know, I think the series is over.

12:36 Uh, and maybe even a sweep or a 5-1.

12:40 However, it's it's funny that the old man is the most consistent

12:43 and the most efficient and we're talking

12:44 about all these young guys and potential,

12:46 but potential don't mean nothing until you prove it over a period of time.

12:51 And so, I don't you know, Austin Reaves, all the Okay, I don't know.

12:54 They have to show me who they are.

12:55 But, but LeBron shows it every night and against a team that has tall defenders,

13:01 against one of the most athletic teams, against one of the better teams.

13:04 And so, really, I'm just watching him play

13:07 in the midst of this and that's where,

13:09 you know, I get my excitement from because

13:11 the Lakers are they're just they're just out, man.

13:13 Okay.

13:14 And then, you know, do you want to chime in before

13:16 I let you go on the Jaylen Brown conversation that he sparked,

13:21 the conversation do you sure of flopping?

13:23 Um, you know, now Now tanking's done, uh we got to the playoffs and now

13:28 it's all about flopping and it's ruining the league.

13:31 What do you What do you You want to take your bite at that one, Chris,

13:34 before I let you Yeah, I mean,

13:35 I hate flopping and I played with players that flop.

13:39 Uh I I hate it.

13:41 I I thought that uh the refs at the time would not take you serious.

13:46 Uh You know, it's from European soccer.

13:50 Guys coming over and and doing that and uh It's just

13:54 that you can't say when you lost 3-1 when you were up.

13:57 Yeah, you can't say that when you're winning the series.

13:59 Yeah, I guess you know,

14:00 you don't have It's interesting that somebody's accused of too

14:03 many players flopping doesn't have a leg to stand on himself,

14:06 but I I understand that, Chris, but, you know,

14:10 I'm wondering is it a player pride thing that where

14:14 players just like if I can get away with it,

14:16 I'll I'll do it, or is it the officials

14:19 just need to quit taking the cheese here?

14:22 Like, who Where Where do Where do we lay the lion's share?

14:26 You know, uh a guy like Shaq couldn't flop and I think he

14:29 paid for it because we could hit him harder and and tear him up.

14:33 And I just think you have to look, you know,

14:37 it's it's almost like if my if my dad was in the room,

14:40 I wouldn't let a guy 100 lbs uh uh I I wouldn't let

14:45 a guy weigh 100 lbs more push me and fall on the floor and flop.

14:48 I'd be embarrassed in front of my pops.

14:51 And I think that guys can get away with it on the court cuz it works.

14:56 However, I think it looks like WWF.

14:58 It looks like you know the fake, you know,

15:01 you know I'm helping your momentum get you to the other side of the rope

15:04 and all that good stuff and it's just we're just too good for it.

15:09 Players are just too good for it.

15:10 It's already hard enough to play the game and so I really um you know,

15:14 I just really have never liked flopping.

15:16 Yeah, I mean, my I I I came on the air the other

15:18 day and saying coming off of the Oklahoma City win in game one,

15:23 my timeline on my phone was filled more with SGA, you know, moments,

15:29 a montage of him not being touched and hitting

15:31 the floor than it was of him making shots.

15:35 You know, and even then, you know,

15:37 you could lay something at the hands of the officials.

15:38 He only went to the free throw line three times in game one.

15:42 So, there were a couple of times where the ref refs are just like, "Get up.

15:44 Play on." And I'm like wondering like if it gets to the point where

15:49 we're constantly talking about it and the league wants to do something about it.

15:52 The association wants to do something about it.

15:53 Do you do you assess technicals?

15:56 You know what I mean?

15:56 I know that there's a an issue that you have when you're flopping on defense.

16:01 Like that's a problem.

16:03 Why not why not flip it and say if you do it on offense, it's equally a problem.

16:08 Right?

16:09 I think it'd be I think it'd be great if we penalized, you know, for flopping.

16:14 But, I also think that, you know,

16:17 it's on the players because you should embellish.

16:20 Embellishing is fine.

16:21 It's just that the, you know,

16:23 flopping is is is just much more egregious than than embellishing contact.

16:28 And so, it's a fine line and it's happening fast.

16:32 And I do believe most refs are trying to do their best in the in the game.

16:37 And so, you know, I think blame goes around everywhere,

16:40 but I think it starts with the players.

16:43 But, I think, you know, a couple of refs, you know,

16:45 I think a couple of calls you need to let guys be embarrassed, you know.

16:50 Because it it wasn't a flop and say, you know, get back up.

16:53 And of course, I don't want to go back to McHale moving the moving

16:56 the chair on on on any of the Celtics and how physical they got.

17:01 You know, I hear it.

17:02 I understand it.

17:03 But, you know, it's just I'm a I'm a football fan and I hated that, you know,

17:09 sometimes you can't hit or tackle as much.

17:11 And on some calls, this quarterback gets hit and this quarterback doesn't

17:15 get hit as much and it's not called and so all you

17:17 want is consistency and I just think you know as a fan

17:21 not even as a player I just I just want that consistency.

17:24 I don't want to know I don't want to know the movie before it happens.

17:27 Sometimes you know guys he's going to dribble twice he's going to pump fake

17:31 and wait go in the air and you know the ref is already calling the foul

17:34 and the ref needs to let the play happen and I'm sure they're going over

17:37 that but I think players need to take you

17:39 know accountability when it comes to to to flopping.

17:42 Well, speaking of accountability before I let you go

17:45 and uh standing tall and facing all uh comers did you

17:48 see cuz last we we we spoke Michigan uh and Duke

17:52 are playing each other next year in Madison Square Garden.

17:54 Did you see apparently there's another garden involved TD Garden in November

17:59 Michigan and Yukon are scheduling each

18:01 other for a national championship um redo.

18:05 You know, just stand tall just you know flash

18:09 the ring and then try and do it again, right Chris?

18:12 it.

18:12 I mean uh Danny Hurley is a uh I've been friends with Danny uh for a long time.

18:18 We went to uh we we shared a couple of jokes about

18:21 some camps we went to and uh both of us uh had

18:24 a had a really good time and so uh he's a competitor

18:27 I love and you know you want to beat the best man.

18:30 So I'm just glad we're lining them up.

18:32 Like like uh Rakim said put seven MCs in a line, you know?

18:36 And uh he's going to take them out.

18:37 So you got to have the best and uh yeah, so I'm looking forward to you know

18:40 beating Yukon and those guys and beating Duke.

18:43 I mean, you know man, the schedule All you can do is play your schedule.

18:46 Right, you know?

18:46 That's exactly right.

18:47 And and and and put the the best on the schedule

18:50 or the previous best against the leaders and best the current best.

18:55 I think just to be completely accurate.

18:56 I think you guys can pick up which ones Chris and I are referring to.

19:01 We want all the smoke just like when we beat you know when

19:04 we beat Ohio State and uh they won the championship after we beat them.

19:08 So I mean, you know, we still were you know their daddies during that season.
