Obama BREAKS HIS SILENCE and TORCHES Trump

Obama BREAKS HIS SILENCE and TORCHES Trump

Keith Edwards

0:00 I miss leaders we could actually rely on.

0:03 We could I don't know when we went to bed.

0:06 We didn't have to worry about what they said by the time we woke up.

0:10 Leaders who were adults.

0:12 They exist still.

0:13 They might not be in power, but they're there.

0:16 And it's such a nice example that we had Obama

0:19 on the Coar show yesterday answering

0:22 some interesting questions from Steven Cobar.

0:25 Steven Coar, by the way,

0:26 who was toying with the idea of 2028 and we have that coming up.

0:31 But Steven Coar also pointed out that Donald

0:35 Trump is grifting like crazy while he still can.

0:39 And here's what Obama had to say about it.

0:44 Now that you're no longer in office,

0:47 what powers do you believe the president should not have?

0:50 Well, there are a couple that I followed even

0:54 though they weren't law and I want us we're going

0:59 to have to do some work to return to this basic

1:02 norm and we probably now have to codify it.

1:05 The White House shouldn't be able to direct the attorney general

1:09 to go around prosecuting whoever uh the president wants prosecute, right?

1:13 Because technically it's under the executive branch.

1:16 The norm is that it's independent.

1:17 the nor the the idea is that the attorney general is the people's lawyer.

1:22 It's not the president's concigary, right?

1:25 Even when it's Bobby Kennedy, it's Bobby Kennedy.

1:29 And so, u two of the core principles of a democracy, we we can survive a lot.

1:39 Bad policy, funky elections,

1:42 there there's a bunch of stuff that, you know, we we can overcome.

1:47 We can't overcome the politization of the criminal justice system,

1:52 the the the awesome power of the state.

1:54 You you can't have a situation in which uh whoever is in charge

1:58 of the government starts using that to go

2:02 after their political enemies or reward their friends.

2:05 Right?

2:05 So another power maybe I'd say would be you although this is in the constitution

2:10 it's a little hard to change but uh maybe don't pardon people who've given you

2:15 a bunch of campaign contributions um uh

2:19 or investigating your businesses um so restoring some

2:24 sense of the justice department being independent

2:27 in making judgments about specific cases and prosecutions.

2:33 Yeah, I I would consult with Eric Holder,

2:35 my attorney general, all the time around broad policy issues,

2:38 but that's different than who do you charge, what case do you bring.

2:42 Second thing is the military.

2:44 Don't politicize our military.

2:46 As president, you are commander.

2:50 God, isn't this this is like I like I needed this.

2:52 Like I feel like I'm I feel like I am

2:55 a shriveled up plant with dusty dirt getting drenched with water.

3:03 This is nice.

3:04 Chief, you are responsible for directing our military.

3:09 But there had been a whole series of norms

3:11 that were in place to ensure that you weren't trying

3:16 to make that military loyal to you as opposed

3:20 to the Constitution and the people of the United States.

3:23 We're going to have to find mechanisms to restore that.

3:27 And then, you know, a good policy uh that I'd like

3:30 to see followed is uh that the president of the United

3:33 States uh shouldn't uh have a bunch of side hustles

3:38 that um those companies and uh foreign entities can uh invest in.

3:48 And how much of that is just jealous that you didn't

3:50 think of selling a sneaker cuz your sneakers were flown?

3:53 You know that, right?

3:55 You know what?

3:55 Bank coin.

4:00 I Yeah, he would have actually.

4:01 And just I mean, I don't even know if

4:04 you're aware of all the side hustles Donald Trump has,

4:06 but he sells Mara Lago pickle ball paddles for $180.

4:12 Did you know that he also sells Trump location chocolate?

4:16 You can get your own set for $30.

4:19 Of course, as reference, there's the Donald Trump sneaker.

4:23 Look at that Oh my god.

4:26 $225.

4:27 And of course, Laura Trump's signature bra top.

4:32 You could You too could look like Lara Trump for just $85.

4:37 God damn it.

4:38 I really hate that so much.

4:41 We definitely need to make it a law

4:43 that you cannot make money while you are president.

4:46 It's just it's honestly it just is like it's just not classy.

4:52 like I want I just it's just there's

4:54 something about it feels a little like cheap.

4:58 And now uh Obama said this about the Republican party.

5:03 You're right.

5:04 The presidential center is nonpartisan.

5:06 And the reason I want to mention

5:08 that is because I'm worried about the Republican party,

5:12 not just the Democratic party.

5:14 U when I was president, people would ask me,

5:17 "What change would you like to see in Washington?"

5:19 I' I' I'd say I'd love a a loyal opposition.

5:24 I I I'd love a Republican party that was conservative in some ways,

5:29 that uh you know, didn't agree with me on a whole bunch of stuff,

5:33 but believed in rule of law and judicial independence and um empirical

5:42 empirical evidence and science and wasn't

5:45 constantly tapping into our worst impulses.

5:49 Um Okay, me too.

5:51 But you just you described a whole new thing.

5:54 It's like saying I would like a horse with wings

5:59 and a beak and have the ability to fly.

6:04 Like brother that is not a horse.

6:06 That is a whole different animal.

6:08 You have just described a bird like okay I would like that Republican party too.

6:13 But you are but I think we're asking for something that truly doesn't exist.

6:18 They would have to create a new party.

6:20 Obama also said uh he gave kind of some advice to Democrats

6:25 respect to Democrats um I'm not as worried about this so-called rift

6:31 between the left and liberals as you describe it because I think

6:36 that within the Democratic party and I would argue a bunch of independents

6:40 and even some Republicans as well

6:43 there's an overarching belief in equality fairness.

6:51 If you work, you should be able to make

6:53 a living wage and support a family and retire with dignity

6:56 and respect and u you know we should not allow

7:02 companies to just run rough shot over the rights of workers.

7:05 I there there are a bunch of things that we agree on and it's really more

7:09 of a question of all right what are the specific things that we have to do.

7:14 You look at somebody like Mandami who I think is an extraordinary talent.

7:19 He he wants people to be able to afford housing in New York.

7:23 Well, you know, uh I I I would assume liberals in New York want the same thing.

7:30 And so I don't worry as much about some

7:35 of these uh these issues uh within the Democratic party.

7:40 What I'm more interested in around for Democrats is do you know how

7:45 to just talk to regular people like we're not in a college seminar, right?

7:50 You know, c can you talk plain English to folks about

7:54 I think that's one of the powers that mom Donnie has.

7:56 That's correct.

7:57 Is that he also not only does he talk like a normal person,

7:59 but he lives a normal life, but he also he names what is obviously wrong.

8:05 Yes.

8:05 And he goes, "We should change that thing.

8:07 That doesn't makes any sense." and and and and not

8:09 have a bunch of gobbledegook around it.

8:12 Uh and and so what I'm looking for is there a strict no gobbledygook?

8:17 No gobbledegook

8:18 here at He should carve that into the wall somewhere of the Obama center.

8:22 No gobbledegook.

8:23 Just talk.

8:24 The building's not completed.

8:26 I'm I think I'm going to put that somewhere.

8:28 I'm going to carve it into some of the granite out here.

8:31 Sure.

8:31 Sure.

8:32 No gobbledegook.

8:32 Just Just talk like normal people talk.

8:35 You know what?

8:36 like uh the rent's too high.

8:41 I feel like that's what we do here.

8:42 Am I wrong?

8:43 I feel like that's what we do.

8:44 We certainly don't.

8:46 We're not We're not We're not the most highbrow channel,

8:51 but I do think uh love it or hate it, we talk like average folks here.

8:57 And I think that's one of the things that, you know,

8:59 I think that's one of the things that people like about the channel.

9:02 So, thank you, Obama.

9:03 I will keep doing that.

9:05 Thank you.

9:06 There are some reminiscing happening.

9:08 Watching Barack Obama and Steven Cobar really makes me

9:10 miss having a president with a fully functioning frontal lobe.

9:15 Yeah.

9:15 And then, as I said, Steven Cobar kind of hinted at something, right?

9:20 I'm looking for a new gig soon.

9:24 Uhhuh.

9:23 And a lot of people tell me I should run for president.

9:26 Well, you certainly have the look.

9:28 Thank you very much.

9:28 You have the hair.

9:29 Well, for the record, I think it's a stupid idea.

9:32 How dumb do how dumb do you think it is

9:34 for people to say that I should run for president?

9:37 Well, you know, the bar has changed.

9:41 That is true.

9:43 That is true.

9:43 At times, subterranean.

9:45 So So I don't have to limbo so low.

9:48 They put it this way.

9:48 I I I think that you could perform

9:53 significantly better than some folks that we've seen.

9:56 All right.

9:57 Yeah.

9:57 I I I have I have great confidence in that.

10:00 Thank you very much.

10:01 Yeah.

10:01 Is that an endorsement?

10:03 It was not.

10:07 Do not run for president, Steven Coar.

10:09 Please just start a podcast.

10:10 We need more.

10:11 We need more white men with podcasts.

10:13 You could really help fill the gap.

10:15 All right.

10:15 Well, God, that hopefully that was good for you, too.

10:18 I feel nourished by that.

10:19 Hopefully, you do as well.

10:20 And I'll see you soon.

10:21 Bye.
