Inside MrBeast's YouTube Machine
Jon Youshaei
0:00 This is my how to succeed in Mr.
0:02 Beast Productions.
0:03 Yeah, I remember when this leaked.
0:04 I've met so [music] many people who said their boss made them read this.
0:08 I'm just going to read from it.
0:09 There's only room in this company for A players.
0:11 They're just people who really love problem
0:13 solving cuz [music] that's what we do here.
0:14 We pull off the impossible.
0:16 Somebody that dedicates their whole life to this.
0:19 Thinks nothing of this is it.
0:20 I've missed Christmases in a row.
0:22 I've missed every part of a typical [music] 20-year-old's 20s.
0:26 It's important you video everything critical.
0:28 That's why you see a lot of people
0:29 on the Beast Games crew constantly filming everything.
0:31 You've got to be able to work on multiple projects at the same time.
0:34 It is 11:35 at night and after a full day filming two YouTube videos,
0:39 a rehearsal for Beast Games, Jimmy is filming a Lunchables commercial.
0:42 Lunchables now available AT EVERY SINGLE WALMART NATIONWIDE.
0:44 LET'S DO one more.
0:45 Tastes cheap.
0:46 I would never eat that again.
0:47 Oh, well.
0:47 We have a phone that says,
0:49 "Ask for anything." How do you produce something like that?
0:52 are coming in one by one by one.
0:53 Send in the Surfing Turkey.
0:55 I had two artists.
0:57 psychic Drivers all over the city.
0:58 [music] Private jets waiting on standby.
1:00 I am getting slammed.
1:02 Four years ago we were filming out of an old church.
1:04 This is where the expansion's being done.
1:06 I think this is the biggest sound stage in North America.
1:08 This entire area is becoming a filming campus.
1:11 It's wild [music] to think about what one YouTuber could do.
1:13 You end your guidebook by saying,
1:15 "I see a world where this company is worth billions." Mr.
1:18 Beast has a valuation [music] of $5.2 billion.
1:22 You want to have an IPO at some point?
1:23 this when I was like 22 years old.
1:25 We're closing in on 500 [music] boys.
1:26 Entire livelihoods, thousands people that depend on their paycheck.
1:29 Did you ever doubt is this worth it?
1:38 This is my how to succeed in Mr.
1:40 Beast Productions.
1:41 Yeah, I remember when this leaked.
1:43 Good times.
1:44 I was actually just talking to a founder
1:46 who his company just got valued at $2 billion
1:48 and he [music] told me he saw this online
1:51 and then made all 100 of his employees read it.
1:53 And I've I've met so many people who had said their boss made them read
1:57 this manual and it's crazy cuz I wrote this when I was like 22 years old,
2:00 but people really love it.
2:02 This section is about videoing everything and so I'm just going to read from it.
2:07 I really want us to see producing as a team job,
2:09 not a solo thing, which is why it's important you video everything critical.
2:14 We are less than 3 weeks away.
2:16 A 14 days prior to us filming here.
2:20 This is a problem we used to run into a lot with my YouTube videos.
2:22 We would send people to scout sets and they'd take a couple photos,
2:25 but then other people would feel the need to drive out there and then
2:27 more people drive out there and it just wastes a lot of time.
2:30 I'm like, "Just send one person out there,
2:32 get really good videos of every square inch and we don't
2:34 need to send people out there 30 times." And so yeah,
2:37 this was very big [music] thing for us back in the day and that's
2:39 why you see a lot of people
2:40 on the Beast Games crew constantly filming everything.
2:42 So this city's [music] got to be ready in 2 weeks.
2:44 2 weeks.
2:46 Not quite there yet, but the bones are together.
2:48 The environment they're in is like alive and breathing.
2:51 It's powered on.
2:55 Taking [music] up the lighting rig.
2:56 Wow.
2:57 Look at that.
2:58 We have folders full of set [music] visits and progress
3:01 as things are going and what the locations look like.
3:04 So Tyler's and [music] the creatives and the thousand people
3:06 working on the show can all stay on the same page.
3:08 9-ft diameter like circle thing right here.
3:11 And then it goes We even have footage of us testing the games
3:14 so we can reference how people played the games in the test.
3:17 You go hard.
3:19 Don't hit me in the head.
3:24 We do testing to break the games.
3:27 To literally say "We didn't come up with a good enough game.
3:30 It broke.
3:30 Here's why.
3:31 Let's fix it." This [music] is episode 6 and they're
3:33 measuring out visibility for these LED flooring.
3:37 And how high am I here?
3:38 6?
3:39 While we're doing this, we're creating
3:41 a vision of what could potentially [music] happen.
3:44 We're like literally pretending every
3:47 scenario that could actually [music] happen.
3:49 He's counting down.
3:50 He's like, "Three, two, one." ONE PERSON JUST GOING OH.
3:55 [screaming] We are testing a game for episode three.
3:57 It is 4:46 in the morning.
4:00 [music] Bunch of people holding markers behind their head to signify
4:04 a game where you don't know what your color is.
4:07 What am I?
4:07 You're You're blue.
4:09 Yeah, you're blue.
4:09 Okay.
4:09 You're supposed to trust the people around you.
4:11 He's lying to you.
4:11 He's lying to you.
4:13 Switch.
4:13 Go.
4:14 Jesse.
4:15 Jesse, what am I?
4:16 Hey, what am I?
4:17 What am I?
4:17 Tyler.
4:17 Tyler.
4:18 Tyler.
4:20 I DIDN'T KNOW WHERE BLACK WAS.
4:22 Turn around, blue team.
4:24 Oh.
4:25 You and I are out.
4:27 You and I are out.
4:28 I can look at [music] those pictures or video.
4:30 We take that data, we go, "How do we make this game better now?" 5:45 a.m.
4:36 Game didn't [music] work.
4:38 You know, and Tyler goes, "Ooh." And then he'll elevate it.
4:40 He's like, "Yeah, I mean basically we have
4:42 this and what if we added another element now?"
4:44 Oh, you do it on the outside and gameplay's on the inside.
4:47 And so that idea was one of the first ideas we had.
4:49 All because we just filmed some dumb video.
4:52 Can you read the passage about A players?
4:54 Yes.
4:55 All right.
4:56 I only want A players.
4:59 You're either an A player, B player, C player.
5:01 There's only room in this company for A players.
5:03 A players are obsessive, learn from mistakes, coachable,
5:05 intelligent, don't make [music] excuses, believe in YouTube,
5:08 see the value of this company,
5:09 and are the best in the goddamn world at their job.
5:13 I agree.
5:14 B players are new people that need to be trained
5:16 into A players and C players are just average employees.
5:19 A lot of our A players I would say are
5:21 people who fit the a lot of the A player criteria.
5:23 They were very obsessive, very coachable, very intelligent, don't make excuses,
5:27 and the big thing is like they're just people [music]
5:28 who really love problem solving cuz that's what we do here.
5:32 We solve crazy problems.
5:33 That's how you pull off the impossible.
5:36 Things are getting prepared for the next episode cubes where
5:39 the Beast team is going to try to pull off the impossible.
5:42 Can we walk into one of the cubes?
5:44 All right.
5:44 So Here's one of the cubes.
5:47 Yes.
5:47 Got our phone here that they're going to be able to pick up.
5:49 People can ask for anything to help decide who's going to get eliminated.
5:53 But what happens behind the scenes like when I pick up and ask for like a pony?
5:55 [music] So immediately that's going and it's probably ringing.
5:57 Yeah, it's ringing right now.
5:58 We have operators standing by.
6:00 god.
6:00 Hello.
6:01 Welcome to Beast Hotline.
6:01 Go ahead.
6:02 We're just testing it out right now.
6:03 Can I please have a pony to our cube?
6:07 [laughter]
6:07 Okay.
6:07 They're like, "We can work on that.
6:08 We're going to get back to you ASAP." There you go, see?
6:10 Thank you.
6:10 You hang it up.
6:11 That request is logged in.
6:12 We will do our best to fulfill every request.
6:15 The concept is is that you can get into this cube
6:19 and the only rule is don't handcuff yourself or you're out.
6:22 And to help you, we have a phone that says, "Ask for anything." Right?
6:26 How do you produce something like that?
6:28 We're talking about a magic lamp here.
6:30 I say we just jump right into the next game.
6:32 Want to do it?
6:33 Yeah.
6:34 Oh, it is.
6:34 I KNEW IT.
6:39 THIS YOUR TEAM?
6:40 YEAH.
6:40 I THINK SO.
6:41 YEAH.
6:41 ONCE YOU'RE HANDCUFFED, it's locked in.
6:43 So you think if she lost the game, she would honor it?
6:46 You know, like I think everyone here will be honest in the way they play.
6:48 Let's stop putting them into the cubes.
6:50 Send [music] it.
6:51 20 contestants have entered their cubes.
6:53 13 will come out.
6:56 They're just about to start [music] ordering items.
6:58 Remember, they can have anything they want.
7:01 Hello.
7:02 Tonight's episode is not only going to be one of the most brutal on camera,
7:06 it's going to be one of the most complicated to pull off off camera.
7:10 We dispatch about 50 production assistants all over the city
7:14 and we'll put people at a hamburger place, at a pizza place, [music]
7:18 at a big store, at an electronic store
7:20 and try to guess like what somebody may want.
7:24 first came up with this idea and he's like, "I want them to ask for anything."
7:28 [music] Instantly people's brains go into let's do
7:29 limitations like they can have one item every,
7:32 you know, 5 hours and then I was like, "No.
7:34 Let's talk about what the brand is, what Jimmy has created as good content.
7:38 You take it to a 10." Their brains go and they're like, "Ooh.
7:41 Ooh.
7:41 I'm a kid.
7:42 I want to do blank." Nobody will take it to the level we take it to.
7:46 We want them to feel like this is a magic phone.
7:49 So some of the things that are being
7:50 asked for are people who like we ordered lobster, we ordered salmon grilled.
7:54 of it is snacks, food, games.
7:56 Six Sonic Blast.
7:57 One Oreo peanut butter milkshake.
8:00 Three diet sodas and three Fantas, please.
8:02 I am getting slammed.
8:04 Okay, they are sprinting.
8:05 Like the requests are coming in one by one by one by one.
8:08 Because we don't just think like this is good creative.
8:10 We think somebody at home, how are they going to respond to watching this?
8:13 They're going to go, "Man, you know what I would ask for?
8:16 I'd ask for a million bucks." What would you like?
8:18 As much money as you can give us.
8:20 They're wheeling $1 million to one of the cubes.
8:26 We sort of try to guesstimate what people will want.
8:29 They prepped a lot of things in advance.
8:31 Like you can see arcade games,
8:33 you can see sumo suits, basketball hoop that they brought out,
8:36 slushy machines, like Kool-Aid snow cone machine,
8:38 like just so many random things.
8:40 So what request just came in?
8:41 A putting green.
8:43 A putting green?
8:43 Yep.
8:44 So when they get a call from the cube, they enter it onto this sheet.
8:47 So like this putting green, we knew it was in stock room.
8:50 Stock room means you have it.
8:51 You prepped it in advance.
8:52 It's in one of these containers.
8:53 Exactly.
8:54 It's tricky.
8:55 We've had animals, tattoo artists, nail techs, massage therapists.
9:00 [music] We have, you know, a lawyer on standby.
9:02 We have a psychic, psychologist.
9:04 Is the barber still back out here?
9:05 I mean we really do reach out to almost everybody.
9:07 Just people on the 1-yard line where we can call
9:09 them for the next 12 hours and they come in.
9:11 All right, send in the Surfing Turkey.
9:13 Cube [music] three.
9:13 And which cube was the Thailand all for?
9:15 Oh, they finally got their pizza.
9:18 So you're currently at about like 350 requests.
9:20 Yeah, it's like 320 right now.
9:21 320?
9:22 Yeah.
9:22 From 20 contestants.
9:23 It created conversation.
9:26 [music] It has people on social media going, "Why didn't they do this?
9:28 I would have done this."
9:29 We have private jets waiting on standby in other states.
9:33 Really?
9:34 And do you have celebrities on standby, too?
9:36 A few here and there.
9:37 Can we get over shoulder of Jimmy's phone?
9:40 He's trying to call Gary Vaynerchuk.
9:41 Some Gary V stuff, Post Malone.
9:43 Could you connect me on a phone call with Elon Musk?
9:47 [music] I tried again for a call with Elon Musk.
9:48 You're getting emotional saying that.
9:50 Why?
9:50 The The ultimate aim is I want to try to find
9:52 someone who can help find a cure for my son.
9:55 I just like with him, Tesla, energy, Neuralink brain.
9:59 We're trying to get creatine to the brain.
10:01 I was hoping.
10:02 I DM'd Elon.
10:03 He didn't respond soon enough.
10:04 So, I was going to try to make it happen.
10:06 And then the next day Elon just replied with like a question mark.
10:08 Like, what?
10:10 [laughter] But, uh I couldn't get Elon on the phone.
10:11 Not that late at night.
10:12 Yeah, I think somebody asked, "Can you fly in my mom 6 hours away?" And I always
10:16 told all of the producers who were looking at this, always say,
10:20 "Yes, we're going to work on it." No matter what the item was,
10:22 "Yes, we're going to work on it."
10:23 You just tell them that you will get back to them in a few moments.
10:27 You know, that's what I classify as an A-player.
10:28 Those are people who just naturally will do well here and and love the job.
10:32 I want people like that.
10:32 I want people who are obsessed and excited to solve hard problems.
10:36 How do you find A-players?
10:38 How do you find A-players?
10:39 Well, John, that is the question every
10:43 business owner on the planet wants to know.
10:46 Y- I have quite a few A-players,
10:48 but they're just I mean, there's a reason they're A-players.
10:50 They're they're really, really hard to find.
10:52 I ended up seeing [music] a tweet from Jimmy,
10:54 and he just said, "Hey, I'm looking for looking for creatives.
10:57 I'm looking for good people." And then [music] I get this interview,
11:00 and I go and meet these people.
11:02 I remember thinking, [music] if this company is going to be really successful,
11:06 they're going to need somebody like
11:07 that just dedicates their whole life to this.
11:11 [music] There's nothing else.
11:11 This is it.
11:12 My wife and I told her.
11:13 I said, "Hey, I'm going to take a [music] chance on this.
11:16 I really, really think that this is going to be something special." I'll tell
11:20 you when uh when we did the surprise on the contestants, oh my god.
11:24 So, the contestants have no clue, but their families are here to surprise them.
11:28 The parents, the siblings, [music] the wives,
11:30 the husbands, the partners, like they are outside.
11:32 They're about to come in.
11:35 [screaming]
11:37 I'm so proud of you.
11:39 You're doing a great job.
11:41 You did it.
11:42 I mean, specifically Tyler and Corey with their families.
11:47 I mean, cuz I related to them the most.
11:49 And just watching [music] them have that moment.
11:51 I mean, that's where I obviously teared up when I saw
11:53 that, cuz I just envisioned my wife and kids running through right after.
11:57 And wait, did you tell him that you're Oh, we're married.
12:00 Yeah.
12:00 Married?
12:01 Yeah, we're married.
12:02 For real?
12:02 Yeah, we did a little we did a marriage thing.
12:05 I wanted to ask you something really special today, okay?
12:08 Okay.
12:09 Monica, You're lying.
12:12 [laughter] will you marry me?
12:15 I would love [music] to marry you, Jim.
12:17 You may kiss the bride.
12:18 Big round of applause.
12:20 If she loves James, I love her.
12:23 Wow.
12:24 What's it like to meet each other's families?
12:26 We get a son.
12:27 You get a daughter.
12:29 Yeah.
12:29 We have a freaking love connection.
12:30 [music] We brought them together.
12:32 They fell in love.
12:34 They're living together.
12:34 It's crazy.
12:35 Wait, really?
12:36 You want to call him now?
12:37 Do you think they'll pick up?
12:39 Yeah, of course.
12:39 It is 4:00 in the morning.
12:42 Come on, Jim.
12:43 Jim.
12:44 Hey, Chris.
12:45 What's going on?
12:46 Jim.
12:47 You can call me at any time.
12:48 I don't care.
12:49 It's It's John.
12:50 It's Sean You Shy.
12:51 You Shy?
12:53 Are you still together with Monica?
12:55 Uh yeah, I'm with her right now.
12:58 Hey, John.
13:00 Isn't this crazy?
13:01 We live together.
13:02 Oh my god.
13:04 We came for money and left with love.
13:06 I love it.
13:06 And money, by the way.
13:07 Both of you left with money.
13:09 And money, too.
13:09 A lot of money.
13:10 And then come on.
13:11 They were in love, man.
13:12 We saw their love story play out.
13:15 Anytime there's some form of heartwarming, wholesome moment,
13:19 I I think of the people I love the most, for sure.
13:21 How much of your life did you pour into these [music] games?
13:24 Uh so much.
13:25 I've missed a lot of Christmases.
13:27 I've missed a lot of Thanksgivings.
13:29 I think at one point I missed six Christmases in a row.
13:32 I I've missed every part of a typical 20-year-old's 20s.
13:38 [music] My passion has been the only thing I've woken up and done for 8 years.
13:42 That's it.
13:43 Nothing else.
13:45 Talk about obsessive.
13:45 That's why a lot of the qualities
13:47 I have written about an A-player are obsessive, learn from mistakes, coachable,
13:50 are things that ensure [music] almost nothing's impossible.
13:55 We actually broke a Guinness World Record for the largest
13:57 behind-the-scenes team [music] to work on a TV show,
13:59 as we made the video that you're watching right now.
14:01 And if I'm being honest, we almost broke our bank account,
14:04 too, as we filmed these 45 days in here.
14:06 So, I definitely wasn't about to use copyrighted music and get demonetized,
14:09 which is why I turned to today's sponsor,
14:11 Epidemic Sound, and specifically their reference track search feature,
14:15 which has been a game changer.
14:16 Basically, if you hear a song that you like on Spotify,
14:19 you can then [music] paste the track name or artist into Epidemic Sound,
14:22 and it finds similar songs from its library of over 55,000 premium
14:25 [music] tracks and 250,000 sound effects that are fully cleared for your videos,
14:30 so [music] you don't have to worry about copyright claims at all,
14:32 which is actually how we found the song
14:34 that you're listening to in some of the previous scenes.
14:37 There's a reason why Epidemic Sound is the best
14:38 sound [music] tracking platform out there for creators.
14:41 So, click the link in the description below to try Epidemic Sound,
14:43 [music] or go to this QR code to get a great deal.
14:46 And for the first 100 people who create an account,
14:49 I'll throw in our new YouTube Hack Pack Pro,
14:52 which has additional [music] templates, graphics, LUTs, music,
14:56 sound effects to help you grow on YouTube,
14:58 which would otherwise be about 50 bucks.
15:00 And basically, it's [music] everything that we've used to help grow our channel.
15:03 Now, back to the video.
15:04 Jimmy, you also had this section in your handbook where you said,
15:06 "We don't fake things.
15:08 Make sure to prep contestants and try to create an environment
15:11 where they feel comfortable talking." [music] How do you do that?
15:13 These contestants, they're not used to having a camera in front of them.
15:16 So, for us, a big thing is that they are who they are, right?
15:19 Once you say something in front of our thousand cameras, you can't take it back.
15:23 We also try to give them some training
15:25 just to help them like articulate what they're thinking.
15:31 Right behind me, I see is one of the more important meetings.
15:34 What they're doing is basically getting on-camera coaching,
15:37 [music] cuz a lot of people have never been on camera before.
15:39 So, what we're trying to do is get you used to this situation.
15:43 There's going to be cameras and lights on you quite a bit.
15:46 All right, what's going on?
15:47 My name is Jim.
15:48 I'm Tyler Lucas.
15:49 My name's Monica Runk.
15:50 Hi, my [music] name is Sue Smee.
15:52 I'm Jack McHatton.
15:53 Oh.
15:55 I'm I practice.
15:56 This is good.
15:56 You might have to coach me through it, but all right.
15:58 Let me just think of how I'm going to word it.
16:00 So, it'll be like I don't I got to loosen up.
16:03 I'm a professional wrestler.
16:06 Are we going Are Is that it?
16:07 Keep going, dude.
16:08 Just keep going.
16:08 That was great.
16:09 We're going to just roll into it.
16:10 So, it'll be like "What's your strategy in order
16:12 to win these games?" Can we redo that?
16:13 I don't know.
16:14 That was stupid.
16:14 What I don't want is someone thinking like, "Oh,
16:16 am I being annoying if I talk too much,
16:18 or if I cut Jimmy off, or whatever?" What I encourage is do whatever you want.
16:22 Okay, okay.
16:23 I Uh what am I willing to do in this competition that other people are not?
16:27 Sabotage some of my closest [music] friends in here.
16:30 Don't tell them that.
16:31 I joined Mensa when I was 16 years old,
16:32 and my strategy for winning is to come [music] in first place.
16:35 My backup, though, is second place.
16:37 After that, third place, fourth place.
16:38 I won't go through the whole thing, but my goal is to win.
16:41 I forgot the question again.
16:42 Uh what do See, I'm on the dumb team.
16:44 I'm on the dumb team, all right?
16:45 I'm on the dumb team.
16:46 We really try to train and encourage the contestants to be who they want
16:50 to be and not [music] be someone
16:52 that they'll regret when they're watching the show.
16:53 I hope no one's listening, but my goal is I got to be cutthroat.
16:56 As much as I love being a people person, there is only one winner in this game.
17:00 I'm all for the underdogs.
17:01 I don't like people bullying people.
17:03 All right, done?
17:04 Sweet.
17:05 I'm That was scary.
17:07 There was this moment with Jack.
17:10 Did you guys see what happened?
17:12 Yeah, the story team caught it.
17:14 Low card goes home.
17:16 Yeah.
17:16 Yes.
17:17 1 [music] 2 3, go.
17:20 Oh, it's me.
17:22 So, he technically cheated, right?
17:24 Yeah.
17:25 Anything can happen in the cubes.
17:27 It's their cube, it's their game, it's their rules.
17:29 I'll go put the handcuffs on.
17:31 You don't have to.
17:32 It's obviously up to you.
17:33 Well, they're great guys.
17:35 When you're ready.
17:39 It's official.
17:40 Sue is eliminated.
17:41 Do you feel like you rushed through
17:43 those moments in earlier videos or even last season?
17:46 Oh, last season, no, but earlier videos on YouTube, of course.
17:49 I had no storytelling in my, you know, early Mr Beast videos.
17:51 I don't think anyone's surprised to hear me say that.
17:54 Um and a big part of it is, yeah, I would have just walked in and been like,
17:57 "Okay, handcuff." But now, we take the time.
18:00 You don't put words in people's mouths.
18:01 You just like give them a chance to express what they're feeling.
18:03 And a lot of people just need to be probed to do that.
18:05 How'd you outwit her?
18:06 I had an idea to front-load the deck,
18:08 and when she was looking at the money, I swapped it.
18:11 Whoa.
18:12 He's on a smart team for a reason.
18:13 Do you worry about being perceived as a villain for the rest of your life?
18:18 Uh it hasn't, you know, I haven't thought about it too much,
18:22 cuz the name of the game is just to get someone to handcuff themselves.
18:26 Like, that's the only rule.
18:28 Uh that's the way the game was set.
18:30 People can be mad at me, but that's that's the way I played it.
18:33 Sue, do you think [music] any differently
18:34 of the people you were in the cube with?
18:37 Oh, no.
18:37 Yeah, I actually think differently of them.
18:39 They're the nicest guys in the world, and this is a game,
18:42 and we played a fair game, and I'm going home with no money.
18:45 I mean, so it really sucks.
18:46 I was hoping to at least something to help me in my retirement.
18:50 [music] You know, I'm 60, so I was really hoping to have something.
18:54 How do you think about your retirement now?
18:56 It's scary.
18:59 You know, like I've always worked two jobs.
19:01 You know, I work hard.
19:03 I'm a hard worker.
19:04 But, I've never had the money to really like be financially [music] secure.
19:11 So, I'm going to just keep working, I guess.
19:14 It just sort of sucks.
19:15 I want to be able to help my daughter and my mom.
19:17 I wish [music] nothing ill will towards Sue, like with what Jack and I did,
19:21 but at the end of the day, uh you know,
19:23 I'm here fighting for time for my family.
19:25 Tyler's authentic.
19:27 He's not loud.
19:27 He's not uh spectacle television superstar.
19:30 Then if I wanted him to be loud, and if I thought that was the right play,
19:34 don't you think we'd have trained these people to be loud?
19:36 There's a reason.
19:37 I don't We don't want that.
19:38 We want you to be yourself.
19:40 Hopefully, at this point we've done a good enough job
19:41 where everyone kind of understands who's playing in these games.
19:44 And so now, it's time for people to love and hate them.
19:46 You know, if a couple people do [music] a Jack did, we got a show, you know.
19:50 I was doing some research,
19:51 and you also wrote on top of learning from watching YouTube,
19:54 I'd love for you to read The Goal.
19:56 [music] So, found this book that you said is one of your favorite books.
19:59 It is, The Goal.
20:00 I love this book.
20:01 Did you have everyone [music] in your company read that book at one point?
20:04 this book is The Goal.
20:05 I think I made my first 250 employees read it.
20:07 It helps get everyone on the same page of when I say bottleneck.
20:10 I use the word bottleneck quite a bit, especially when filming.
20:12 And I want people when I use that term
20:14 to understand what it means and [music] the magnitude and weight.
20:16 You also wrote, "Do not go to your co-workers and say I need a thumbnail,
20:19 let me know when it's done.
20:20 [music] I want you to look them
20:21 in the eye and tell them they are the bottleneck.
20:23 Just walking away until it's done is [music] lazy and it gives room for error.
20:26 Check in daily, leave no room for error."
20:29 you you're the bottleneck to the production,
20:30 to me that's a very, very serious sentence.
20:32 To to people who might not have read The Goal,
20:35 they'd be like, "Okay." If you picture like a hose,
20:37 the different sections of the hose are different
20:39 part of the workflow of producing a video,
20:41 then it's like the equivalent of the creative part of the hose,
20:44 you just squeeze it.
20:45 And so, the water just essentially stops.
20:47 We're not really making meaningful progress.
20:49 And then you also had a section in your handbook where you said,
20:51 "Work on multiple videos every day.
20:53 Do not come in and work on only one video during a work day.
20:56 [music] That's how you fall behind on future videos and create a nasty cycle
20:59 that I'm trying to stop." Because of how grand and big these products are,
21:02 you got to be able to work on multiple ones at the same time.
21:05 These are just big projects that take many months.
21:07 If you haven't tried Lunchables now,
21:09 go to your local Walmart, it's the perfect time.
21:11 It is 11:35 at night and after a full [music] day of filming two YouTube videos,
21:16 a rehearsal for Beast Games,
21:18 Jimmy is here at their local Walmart filming a Lunchables commercial.
21:22 Ooh, can we get one?
21:23 Uh Lunchables?
21:24 No, but sure.
21:25 We can have some Lunchables.
21:26 It's this entire bit where they make fun of Lunchables.
21:29 You could guess what brand they're really making fun of.
21:31 BRO, DON'T EAT THAT GARBAGE.
21:32 LUNCHABLES IS NOW AVAILABLE IN EVERY SINGLE WALMART NATIONWIDE.
21:35 GO TRY IT.
21:36 STOP EATING LUNCHABLES.
21:37 HE has like 50% more energy than any
21:40 human I've ever met and 110% more curiosity.
21:44 And I guarantee you he's not even done.
21:45 He's going to run this back like three
21:47 or four more times till he gets it perfect.
21:49 Let's do one more.
21:50 Okay.
21:50 And then he's going to go to the candy
21:52 aisle or the chocolate aisle, wherever that is,
21:54 and [music] he's going to taste test the competition
21:56 and figure out how Feastables can do something different.
21:59 Well, what you'd expect.
22:00 Tastes cheap.
22:01 I would never eat that again.
22:02 I have zero desire to consume any more of this.
22:04 Yeah.
22:04 If I try something and I don't instantly have to like restrain,
22:08 it's not good enough.
22:09 Good science test.
22:10 Yeah.
22:10 Take care everybody.
22:12 All right, Jimmy's out.
22:13 It's crazy.
22:13 He's headed back to set.
22:15 Just another day in the life.
22:16 You end your guidebook by saying,
22:18 "If you're ambitious and you want to dedicate [music] your life to work,
22:21 you pick the best company in America.
22:23 This isn't a stepping stone, this is your final destination.
22:25 I see a world where this company is worth billions and one
22:28 day tens of billions." How did you have that kind of clarity?
22:31 [music] Yeah, I have over 400 employees.
22:33 I think we're closing in on 500 employees that, you know,
22:35 entire livelihoods, [music] their families,
22:37 all thousand people that depend on their paycheck, you know,
22:39 if you include their kids and partners and stuff.
22:41 Yeah, that's what I'm very grateful with my team.
22:44 We just like come together and make this a bigger company.
22:49 Two is like, you could see that sir,
22:51 you go out to the road, we have like all this land.
22:54 So, there it is.
22:56 Damn.
22:56 Oh my god.
22:59 Here you can actually see the entirety of the set.
23:03 I JUST STARTED THIS 10-MINUTE TIMER.
23:05 AND WHEN IT hits zero,
23:06 that room all the way over there full of money will explode.
23:09 The cage, down to blue room, down to the Indiana Jones jungle type room.
23:17 When did you and Jimmy meet?
23:18 Like 2018.
23:19 I was helping him with his thumbnails.
23:21 And that was kind of just like I was
23:22 still doing my own channels, but I was like,
23:24 "You suck at Photoshop, let me help out." So,
23:26 you made a lot of Jimmy's initial thumbnails.
23:28 Yeah, me and him would hop into call.
23:30 He'd like I'd screenshot and he'd be like,
23:31 "Do this, change that, I want this." And so,
23:33 I would just help out and make his creative vision come to life.
23:36 Then it kind of all umbrellaed into here and it's been a crazy ride.
23:39 Woah.
23:40 From what I understand, you rallied a ton of employees and said,
23:43 "This is going to be [music] a multi-billion dollar company." Yeah,
23:46 the first thing I ever said here is like, I mean this company's awesome.
23:49 You guys have no idea what you're standing in.
23:51 Like this is going to be a billion dollar company.
23:53 I still remember that because I like truly believed it at the time.
23:56 All right, so now this is where the expansion's being done.
23:59 Well, we'll have you come back when it's all
24:00 done and it's going to be a totally different place.
24:03 So, behind me is a sound [music] stage.
24:05 Last time we were here, it was non-existent.
24:08 It was a bunch of construction and now fast forward,
24:10 it's built, it's functional.
24:12 They're [music] going to be playing in there.
24:13 It's a memory challenge game.
24:14 The set is really well lit, looks beautiful.
24:21 And it's one of many.
24:22 Like this is one studio, there's another [music] one here,
24:25 there's a bunch of sets for his other YouTube
24:27 videos that we've been filming on with Jimmy over there.
24:29 This entire area is becoming a filming campus.
24:31 [music] It's wild to think about what one YouTuber could do.
24:34 Welcome to the smart game.
24:37 And is this one of the biggest sound stages now in North America?
24:39 Jimmy would have killed you right there.
24:41 It is the biggest sound stage in North America.
24:44 This is the biggest sound stage in North I think
24:45 this is the biggest sound stage [music] in North America, free standing.
24:48 Yeah, cuz there's no columns in the middle.
24:50 Usually a structure this big needs columns to support it.
24:52 If you told me last season that we were going
24:54 to be filming next season in the backyard of our studio, you know what I mean?
24:59 Four years ago we were filming out of an old church.
25:02 Yeah, it's crazy.
25:03 It's insane.
25:04 This is the most futuristic thing we've ever done.
25:07 But it happened, man.
25:08 They're they're doing it.
25:09 Yeah, we'll do that.
25:10 Um they're also I chase the best product possible.
25:13 That's all I want.
25:14 I don't need notoriety.
25:15 I don't need any anything else.
25:17 You know, I could be down about all the stuff I miss,
25:20 but I mean look at the opportunity.
25:22 I've been to 40 countries.
25:25 I I've met some of the most incredible people.
25:28 [music] I've filmed the craziest things.
25:30 We climbed the inside of the pyramids.
25:32 I find it very, very challenging to be negative about the things I've missed
25:37 because of the amount of um opportunity
25:39 and positivity I've gotten out of this job.
25:42 It's the hundreds of people that sacrifice everything on this shoot.
25:45 These people who have given up everything to make this show,
25:49 it's what makes this show so special.
25:51 It really is.
25:52 I mean, bro, it's funny.
25:54 I can't even get like my newer employees
25:56 to read this, but it's like there's so many businesses
25:58 that my friends run or just people I've seen
26:00 on Twitter where they make their employees read it.
26:02 And so, I joke with my my people.
26:04 I'm like, when we hire someone new and I ask if they've read it, they're like,
26:06 "No." And it's funny cuz I know my friends' employees read the handbook,
26:11 but my own employees sometimes don't even read it now.
26:14 And it's just so funny how big this got.
26:19 All right, Jimmy's office is right now in Greenville.
26:21 It's a Sunday right now and the offices are still [music] packed.
26:25 I couldn't believe it,
26:25 but I came across his YouTube play button when he hit 100,000 subscribers.
26:30 Like like that's crazy.
26:32 And I'm blown away by all the fan [music] mail, all the artwork.
26:35 Looking at all the letters from all corners of the world,
26:37 from Japan, from Ireland, from Canada, [music] from the United States.
26:41 I think this is why they do what they do and they work so hard.
26:45 As I'm starting to get a little bit older,
26:46 I'm trying my best to have a little bit more of a personal
26:49 life and kind of figure out myself more than just [music] this job.
26:53 However, I would never change a single thing.
26:56 Never.
26:57 Ever, ever, ever.
27:04 [music] This is this is what I was supposed to do.
27:08 I filmed in a lot of studios.
27:09 This is amazing.
27:10 Jimmy, now the floor is moving.
27:12 Oh, wait.
27:12 Oh my god.
27:15 [screaming] It's the first time I'm getting to see people watch the show.
27:18 Some of the most influential critics and press
27:20 are sitting in a theater right now.
27:22 How's it going, everybody?
27:23 Reviews for the first season of Beast Games were pretty harsh.
27:28 Imagine 15 [music] very high-end Lamborghinis roaring through the city.
27:32 Listen to that bad boy.
27:34 It was insane.
27:35 I've never seen [music] studio space that big.
27:37 You could fit the pyramids in this building.
27:40 my dream, seeing this much studio space.
27:41 You know, I want to build one of the largest companies on Earth.
27:43 The bar for normal [music] shows here, our bar is in the cloud.
27:45 We want to build more content across the internet and traditional TV,
27:49 even theatrical releases.
27:52 They call this place the edge of the world.
27:53 My heartbeat is abnormally high.
27:55 I don't know if Jimmy survived, but I definitely am.
27:58 I've read every single [music] review.
27:59 I'm down to admit I'm wrong.
28:00 Do you think this will perform better or worse than season one?
28:02 I have never talked about this before.
28:04 Not on a podcast, not on my channel,
28:06 not anywhere [music] besides this series right here.
28:10 You guys ready to watch season two?
