Microsoft Flight Simulator

0:08 This stream is cleared for takeoff.

0:14 Hello everybody.

0:15 Welcome welcome to our October developer

0:18 live stream for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

0:20 Uh my name is Jane.

0:22 I am the senior community manager for Microsoft

0:24 Flight Simulator and I'm hop hosting today's stream.

0:27 As per usual, we do look forward

0:29 to answering many of your questions this morning.

0:31 Great to see you all in chat.

0:33 Of course, just a reminder before we get started.

0:36 Um, we do have Q&A sections throughout this entire presentation.

0:40 We do ask that you hold questions for those sections.

0:43 You'll see section titles like aircraft or 2020.

0:47 Um, try to focus your questions on those if you can.

0:50 That we would love to keep them all, you know, within theme.

0:54 But I'd like to welcome back here on screen on the left we have Newman,

0:58 head of Microsoft Flight Simulator.

1:00 Welcome, Yorg.

1:03 Hi.

1:02 Thank you for joining us today.

1:04 Yes, wherever you're tuning in from.

1:06 In the middle, we have Sebastian Vlock,

1:08 Asobo CEO and co-founder from Asobo Studios.

1:12 Welcome.

1:14 Hello.

1:14 And to the right, we have Marcel Busard, executive producer at Asobo Studio.

1:17 Hello, Marcel.

1:19 Hello, everybody.

1:21 Thank you three for joining me today.

1:23 and chat.

1:24 Uh I don't know if you all join us for Flying Fridays or not,

1:28 but we love to put a special guest uh in the hot seat for a second.

1:33 So, if you all can just go ahead

1:35 and chat and type where you're tuning in from today,

1:39 I'm going to have Yorg here just read some

1:41 of the cities and countries you're from as fast as he can.

1:44 So, go ahead and let us know.

1:47 Great.

1:48 Let's see if we can uh Okay.

1:49 Georgia, Tennessee, Vienna, UK.

1:51 Ah, Little Rock, ah, Liverpool,

1:54 Finland, Roterdam, Southern, Slovakia, Netherlands, Lebanon,

1:59 Tampa, Nigeria, Nottingham, Shy, ah, Ontario,

2:03 North Texas, Manau, Canada, Hamburg, Sahano.

2:08 Hey, I was I'm close there.

2:10 Luxembourg, Montreal, UK, Wellington, Washington, uh, Novar, Thailand, Tel Aviv,

2:15 Nicaragua, Alpat, uh, North Carolina, Phoenix, Norway, Denvar, New York.

2:22 I'm doing all right.

2:23 Right.

2:23 Sylvania, uh, Phoenix, Arizona, Lipick, Monaco, parking.

2:27 No, that's not right.

2:29 Uh I really um

2:34 this is going much faster than a normal, you know, stream with a couple

2:39 Nova Scotia, Los Angeles.

2:41 All right.

2:41 Tokyo, Berlin, Rome,

2:47 Roma.

2:46 All right.

2:46 Not bad, York.

2:49 I did notice you skipped, you know, several at a time, but we'll let that slide.

2:53 We'll let it slide.

2:54 Three or four or something.

2:56 That was great.

2:56 Thank you, York.

2:58 Uh well anyway, we have a great presentation for you today.

3:02 We also have three very special guests joining us later today.

3:06 So we can't wait to say hello to them.

3:09 But first, of course, we'll have York kick off our presentation.

3:14 To you, York.

3:15 Thank you.

3:15 So hi everyone.

3:16 Great to see you.

3:17 It's been over two months again since the last dev update.

3:20 Um we've been pushing really hard.

3:22 All the teams have over the past few months.

3:24 I hope you've already seen some of the results in Sim Update 4 beta.

3:27 I'm getting some real positive signals from you all

3:30 and we all are which is awesome to see.

3:33 Um so like always I would like to say thank you.

3:35 Um engagement in flight siming has been very high

3:38 and I just wanted to give you an idea.

3:41 So since we last met over 500,000 new users

3:44 have tried uh the sims since our last meeting.

3:46 So the hobby is doing quite well.

3:49 And then just to recap what we've been doing.

3:51 Uh so we went to Germany, went to Gamescom and had a city update.

3:55 And I saw earlier you won another German world update.

3:58 Really?

3:58 I don't know what it's like.

4:00 I think it was a joke.

4:02 So um you know, by the way, Germany is the second biggest market for flight sim.

4:05 So I think it deserves it deserves a little bit.

4:08 Um so we also so we also launched

4:11 a the final and fourth uh makeg good aircraft the Euroopter

4:15 EC135 which is based on a message bloom actually German

4:19 plane German helicopter and um and it was really cool.

4:23 We partnered with Ayat which is the largest German organization sort

4:27 of the angels of the sky in Germany and uh we

4:29 had some of their members going to get coming to Gamescom

4:32 some of their pilots and um people really had a good time.

4:35 There was a competition on the show floor and we

4:36 gave out some little RC helicopters and stuff and then finally

4:40 Seb and I attended a really fun community event that Jane

4:43 and the team had put up and it felt great honestly.

4:46 It was maybe 100 people.

4:48 Um so I love love it when we get to meet some of you guys.

4:52 Um all right and then just a few weeks later actually

4:55 we did something that really groundbreaking that never been done before.

4:58 we announced that Flight 2024 is coming to PlayStation as you I'm sure

5:02 you've heard which is a big step for the franchise and for the hobby.

5:06 Um and and maybe the thing that made me happiest was the reaction

5:10 of of the community because everybody was positive and welcoming which is

5:14 it it warms my heart when I see this right because the newcomers

5:17 will need your guys' help and it's great to see all that.

5:21 So, this is a great opportunity, I think, for the hobby to just grow,

5:23 add more users, great for development teams

5:26 that are making add-ons and things like that.

5:29 Uh, and what's also interesting,

5:30 they were super excited about PSVR2, which I fully understand that.

5:34 Uh, and we announced that while So made

5:37 great progress on this, it's not quite ready.

5:39 So, we're we're shipping that in 2026,

5:41 but should be really, really excellent when it's there.

5:44 And then one day later there was something called TGS or Tokyo

5:48 Game Show and we had prepared for quite a while a and it

5:52 actually leaked as you some of you might remember uh a um

5:55 a world update Japan was the biggest number of uh what we call AOIS.

6:00 So these basically photoggramometry environments biggest

6:04 number we've ever done was 23.

6:06 the quality is really really good and and I think um it made

6:10 the Japanese community really happy and I

6:12 read some really good feedback on the forum.

6:14 So thank you for that.

6:15 And alongside this we also launched what I think is

6:18 a really great local legend um the only Japan build airliner

6:23 in the last 80 years or so the N YS11

6:26 and this was actually inspired by one of us one of y'all.

6:30 Uh so there's a Joseepperva was we did some chat at Gamescom

6:36 a few years back and he was telling me about the YS11.

6:39 I didn't never heard about it and uh but the decision

6:41 was made to build that plane with INI builds.

6:44 I think they did a really good job and it's it's

6:46 really also great to see that you guys are enjoying it.

6:49 I know the first update is already either out or coming out very very soon.

6:53 Um and that gets us to the road map real quick.

6:56 So we are it's already October which is shocking.

6:58 Um, so you see we did two world two the world

7:01 city update world update a couple of more airplanes some update

7:04 three the station announced but there's a few things left

7:07 for the rest of the year and some of that we'll discuss today.

7:12 All right Jane back to you.

7:14 All right so we have our first round of questions here.

7:17 So we're talking Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

7:21 So if you have questions around that one um please feel free to ask in chat.

7:26 But we'll start with our first one here.

7:27 Can a sobo reallow zoom level above 18 and the 512 x

7:32 512 textures that have been supported by 2020 up until sim update 16?

7:37 Even if directly doesn't leverage the higher quality,

7:40 this is then allowing community and developers the scope to use such quality.

7:44 Thanks Seb.

7:48 I believe we can address it.

7:50 Yes, I can take this one.

7:52 Uh, can you hear me?

7:54 Yep, we can.

7:54 We can.

7:55 Okay, there's some some lag.

7:57 Uh yeah.

7:58 So uh this this took us a little bit by surprise

8:00 because we did not uh expect this to break but we

8:04 pretty much this is something which was not uh uh

8:07 planned or or um it's it's not a a design feature.

8:10 It's more like a something that did just work and uh the team has investigated.

8:15 I don't know why uh it doesn't work anymore and um and uh

8:19 also surprisingly they did not know how this could have worked before.

8:23 So um in order to make it work,

8:25 we need to investigate and and check what basically what was happening.

8:30 And so yeah, we're going to look into this uh

8:32 if that's an important feature to make work again.

8:35 We will we will for sure uh find out what happened and and fix it.

8:39 Um but yeah, this is not something deliberate or anything.

8:41 We just uh did not expect this to break

8:44 or or anything like that uh when we did this update.

8:48 Yeah, thanks Seb.

8:51 And regarding SU16 as well, our second question here,

8:54 the resolution and color quality of aerial

8:56 imagery has dramatically decreased in many

8:59 parts of the world in 2020 since 16's update to the latest big maps.

9:04 Can you please provide some insight why

9:06 this occurred and whether it'll be resolved?

9:08 There's many devoted users who would like to keep playing

9:10 the sim at the high quality that it has been.

9:14 Yeah.

9:14 So, basically what so the first thing is can you provide us why it has occurred?

9:18 Basically, we unified the world.

9:20 We've always talked about this that flights in 2020 and 2024 should

9:23 have the same basic information like the height field is the same,

9:26 the textures or aerials are the same.

9:29 Um so what what you see on 2020 is exactly what you see on 2024.

9:34 Now um one of my favorite places in the world is Kindervald and I

9:39 actually fly around there ever so often and I saw the same thing.

9:42 the dark nice green lush textures we had before are now a little bit more yellow

9:46 simply because the satellite images we got was later in the year when it was dry

9:51 and um so we just looked at this we actually had a meeting on this just

9:55 this morning and I we still have the old

9:58 textures around um and now so obviously I'm aware

10:02 of the community thread and we're reading it so we're going to do a an exercise

10:06 where we go through what is better what

10:08 is not and make some creative choices and I

10:11 think it's gonna I basically said the so

10:13 art director should be part of this because it's it's a lot of it is an artistic

10:17 decision what actually feels more vibrant and more fun.

10:22 Um but we'll work on this and we'll get back to you exactly how we do it.

10:26 But the the theory is we can create our own

10:28 world which is kind of a blend of what

10:30 Bing has and what's great for flights and then we'll

10:33 come up with a hopefully optimal solution for us all.

10:36 Nice.

10:37 Thank you.

10:38 So, what is planned for the future of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020?

10:43 Does the team plan a sim update 17?

10:47 Yeah, I think I actually made a little slide.

10:49 So, we we had said for a while we're going to support 2020

10:53 um obviously with less velocity of course than 2024 which is our focus,

10:57 but we'll do a sim update a year.

11:00 in this particular case.

11:02 Yes, we should uh we should add a little one because

11:06 the the team uh they've been working to to fix the biggest funders.

11:11 So we I think we find three of the biggest issue that we still have on Sim 16.

11:17 So the the team is asking is requesting a fact that we do an update.

11:21 So uh as soon as we will have time to to do that, we will.

11:25 Yeah, I think I think this is a I mean

11:27 right now we're doing everybody's working on sim update 4.

11:30 Of course, this is the full focus.

11:32 After that, we'll look into when exactly can we tackle this.

11:35 Otherwise, we'll overload the what's called the build

11:37 and release team and the test teams and such.

11:39 But we're going to we're going to do a 16.1 in this case.

11:46 Okay.

11:46 And then yeah, so sim update 17, it's not a it's not a typo.

11:49 We're making one SIM update a year.

11:51 We just did SIM update 16.

11:53 I I actually kind of forgot exactly when that was,

11:55 but it was sort of in the summer.

11:57 So, in that case, we will the features are TBD.

12:00 We're going to look into what is actually backportable uh from 2024.

12:04 Um that's a discussion we're starting to have

12:06 now as the year sort of winds down.

12:08 We're planning for the next year.

12:09 But that's the general plan making an update next year somewhere in the summer.

12:14 And then on top of that, of course,

12:15 we're going to update the cities and the world updates are shared as I said.

12:18 So whenever there's one and and I heard the feedback that some people felt

12:23 a little bit weird about the you know we have a single announcement of what

12:26 is in world update 20 and there are actually differences between between flights

12:31 in 2020 and 2024 no al races are not possible in 2020 etc etc so

12:36 we'll be a little bit more careful to explain what we're doing

12:38 but the the general goal is I think next year we have plan is of three

12:41 or four city updates and three world updates or something uh that they come

12:45 to both and then on top of that I made a really terrible graphic last night.

12:49 So bear with me.

12:51 Look at the next page.

12:53 H.

12:53 So anyways, this is our plane grid from 2024.

12:57 And one of the ways we will want to support 2020 is to b sure

13:02 we bring as many of the plans

13:03 that are feasible and basically backport them to 2020.

13:07 The gray ones are the ones that are basically

13:09 in in the standard in the various editions already.

13:12 The green ones are the ones we've already shipped.

13:15 I think we shipped 16 and there's another 29.

13:18 I don't think we're going to get to all of them.

13:20 Plus, some of them don't make any sense in 2020.

13:23 Like the balloon has special tech and those types of things, but we're trying.

13:26 So, over the next few months, you will see more plans coming to 2020.

13:30 And and on top of that, just like what you saw with the N,

13:34 when we can, we're going to try to have a 2020 version of our first party plans.

13:38 So, we're supporting we're supporting the platform that way, too.

13:41 Cool.

13:42 Thanks, Sorg.

13:42 Um, I saw a few questions in chat asking,

13:45 I don't know if this information you're you can share,

13:47 but they're asking about the split between uh the user base of 2020 and 2024.

13:52 Um, if 24 gets more simmers or how how many people are still in 2020?

13:59 Uh, I mean it's definitely more in 2024 for sure.

14:01 Um, and and growing as you can imagine, right?

14:04 I mean, but we also just had a Steam

14:06 sale and one store sale as you probably saw.

14:09 So that shuffles in tens of thousands if not more people into flights

14:13 in 2020 which is kind of the hope right that that some

14:15 people are much more price sensitive of course and that's an entry

14:18 point to the hobby and I think that's a good thing.

14:22 So I think there's still a substantive number on flights in 2020 for sure.

14:25 Um and then there's what I would say an increasingly large number in 2024.

14:31 Yeah.

14:30 I hope that answers it.

14:33 Okay.

14:37 All right.

14:37 Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of great questions in chat for 2024.

14:41 We are going to get to a section very shortly.

14:44 Um, so we'll answer some of those questions soon,

14:46 but first we'll talk about our feedback snapshot.

14:54 All right, so as you know, we are paying tight attention to these things.

14:57 We go through this all the time with the production

14:59 team to see what are the main forum threads,

15:02 what are the bugs associated with that.

15:04 We turn those into tickets.

15:06 And we we're not going to go through all

15:07 of these because we're tracking hundreds of these things,

15:09 but but just the top ones that are not fixed yet.

15:12 I think Marcel, you wanted to talk about the re VM situation.

15:16 Uh yeah, so we've been working a lot

15:18 of the on optimizing the VRAMs on most scenarios now.

15:21 We on par with what we had on on 2020.

15:24 We still have some improvement to make like we will always

15:27 do and and as for the rest of the the sim

15:30 but uh you you would see some significant changes in submit

15:34 four and five for the rest do you want me to

15:39 well blurry I think this is also more on your side

15:43 yeah well it's a long thread it's embending a lot of things we've

15:47 seen some some issues on on the airports um on the LOD system

15:52 so We we've done some changes also for sim update 5 um sim

15:58 update four sorry but it will be an ongoing situation if you look

16:01 at the threads there's so many points there so many different subject that it

16:05 will be almost impossible to say fix for good here uh but it's

16:10 it's always an improvement the PC12 yeah so we just we have a new

16:15 build from uh from carnado that's currently in test I believe this is fixed

16:21 um then the next one the main thread That's interesting because some people say

16:24 it's fixed and then I don't know M if you want to talk to this.

16:29 Well maybe uh maybe would be uh the one suited to talk about the man trade.

16:35 Uh no about this issue I have no idea.

16:37 Men trade loads up and doesn't recover.

16:40 Yeah I heard that there's two invest two things

16:42 that looks suspicious that the team is currently looking into.

16:44 So some people tell us it's fixed which okay and some people say it's not

16:49 and then there's two things that the code team is is looking at right now.

16:53 But basically this is the the most difficult part

16:55 for us is like to be able to reproduce exactly

16:57 some situations and with the huge variety of hardware

17:00 and and configurations sometimes it's uh it's hard to get.

17:05 So we're trying to repro as much as possible.

17:10 Yeah.

17:09 Yeah.

17:09 So keep please keep giving us some some

17:12 feedback and and most precise feedback you can

17:14 get on on the forums because it's helping us a lot on that kind of situations.

17:20 All right, helipads there helipad and airports we

17:23 all we're looking at the tracker all the time.

17:25 This is mostly on Gaia and they are obviously totally aware.

17:29 We have tons and tons of new packages that we are pushing up.

17:32 Um so there's a lot of helipads of course.

17:35 So I'm I'm not saying this is all fixed.

17:37 I think there 60,000 but the the team is on it

17:40 and we're updating all the time and I don't know the next one.

17:45 So CPM mask and stuff there's a question later

17:47 so I think maybe Jane just shows through it.

17:49 Dark green means it's fixed.

17:51 light green.

17:51 It's in progress and most likely in sim update four or five.

17:56 And then there's a few things that are

17:57 still under investigation or currently in planning,

18:01 but we are paying close attention to this sort

18:04 of dominates some of our life of course

18:06 and we're on it

18:07 and we will be posting this out tomorrow for our development update

18:11 on the website so you can take a more in-depth look at it for sure.

18:18 Okay.

18:19 And the wish list.

18:20 Wish list.

18:20 I just wanted to say, you know,

18:21 this year we've really focused on the bug the bug list.

18:24 There's a couple of things, of course,

18:26 that were tackled on the wish list just by the, you know,

18:29 by by working, but there are this is going to be

18:31 part of our um influence of what we're doing next year.

18:36 So, this is now in the process of being kicked off.

18:41 Awesome.

18:40 And I don't have a full expectation yet how many

18:42 of these things we're really going to be able to do, but but we're going to try.

18:48 Yeah.

18:47 All right.

18:48 Now, let's move on back to your questions, chat.

18:52 And we have some that we've already been asked here.

18:55 We'll start here.

18:56 Can Seb go into some details about some of the work AOBO

18:59 has been doing to help improve the performance in SIM update 4?

19:07 Um, yes.

19:07 So, um, actually there's been, uh, so many so many change list.

19:12 I I took a I took a moment to go through the change lists on on the source

19:17 base and there was just so many that there's no way I can explain them all.

19:20 So I picked a few I picked a few things to just try explain.

19:24 So um um there's been work further work on threads.

19:28 Um a very important one is that uh and I

19:32 needed to to to um make this little drawing.

19:36 So this is my my art Z art.

19:40 Oh yeah.

19:40 Yeah.

19:40 Love Uh it's a bit programmat but um to because I

19:44 I've already said that we made multi thread on the simulation

19:46 and so um people will say yeah he's always always explaining

19:50 the same thing but this this shows a little bit more what happened.

19:53 So um um basically when we started 2020 we were even before on the left side uh

19:59 the red part which is the aircraft simulation

20:02 of the user it was just one red bar.

20:04 So vertically you see basically let's say one frame which is moving forward.

20:09 Everything was on one thread and uh in 2020

20:12 we started picking some parts of the aircraft

20:15 simulation and moving it into other threads

20:17 but it had to happen at the same time.

20:19 So the aircraft starts to be simulated and then instead of using just

20:23 a single thread you use two or three or four more CPU cores.

20:27 They all work together it goes faster.

20:30 We wait until everybody's finished and then we come back and we can finish.

20:33 So that was basically the situation in 2020 and we had

20:37 uh the time to pick a few uh areas of the sim

20:40 and to make them uh uh multi- thread but still uh synchronous

20:45 in um in uh on the development of 24 we did that for everything.

20:50 So everything was really multi-threaded uh and uh and uh whether it's the CFD,

20:55 the the weather sampling, the the surface simulation, everything like that.

21:01 But we still have it on the main frame basically locked on the main frame.

21:04 So it's much faster.

21:06 It optimized the simulation quite a bit.

21:08 But we still had to wait for everything to be finished before we could move on.

21:12 And so um this year we have it it took

21:15 some while uh because it required quite a lot of changes.

21:17 We've worked to move it and make it completely asynchronous.

21:20 That's similate 4.

21:22 It's on the right.

21:23 So instead of starting somewhere in the middle of the frame

21:26 and doing the work on work on all sorts of CPU cores,

21:29 we started at the beginning and uh and we moved everything

21:33 I mean almost everything back to a single core because actually

21:36 taking the work and splitting it up onto several CPUs costs

21:41 some resources to the system and uh and it's overall more expensive.

21:45 Even though it was good at the beginning

21:48 because it allows us to have faster frames, it's still more expensive.

21:52 So now that it's completely asynchronous,

21:54 we moved a lot of stuff back onto a single thread but completely somewhere else.

21:59 And so not blocking the main thread at all anymore.

22:01 And so that's the situation on simulated 4 which allows

22:04 us to get another gain of uh of frame rate.

22:07 And overall performance is better because we don't spend all the time

22:10 to splitting up the work and gathering

22:12 gathering the results and moving back together.

22:15 Some things are still multi-threaded um because they needed to go faster,

22:20 but overall that's the situation on on the right is is what we did.

22:24 So that's the the issue is it's it's a lot of work

22:26 because you um basically you now have the simulation on the right side.

22:30 You have the simulation the red bar which is overlapping the green bar.

22:34 And so if you touch at the same time stuff which is not supposed

22:37 to be touched at the same time before it was not, now it is.

22:42 And this can sometimes break.

22:43 And so um I think this goes back to a question which I

22:46 didn't answer before which is why does the main thread lock uh after

22:50 the loading I think it's just something like this there's a we identified

22:54 and found a few issues before similate 4 went to the beta and somewhere I

22:58 reported after during the beta it's

23:00 just sometimes there's something we didn't expect

23:03 uh that would happen simultaneously and then it just locks one of the big

23:07 biggest optimizations here uh just for your info the the the simulation

23:12 the the red part uh is usually around 10% of the of the of everything.

23:17 Um it's quite big and uh and moving this away um out of the out

23:22 of the way of the main thread uh uh on on on my machine

23:28 for example that's that's three to four milliseconds which are gone per

23:31 frame which are not uh um uh working on the main thread anymore.

23:36 So on the next slide I think I have something another nice uh image.

23:42 So we also did a lot of these um which is uh

23:45 which is not a single place it's it's it's quite a lot

23:48 of of places um basically um um this requires to rewrite a little

23:53 bit the system so that it is more friendly for the CPU memory cache

23:57 the CPU has a a cache because the memory is not as fast

24:01 as the CPU and so uh when the CPU goes to memory to do

24:06 work um memory is loaded into the cache and then the CPU works

24:10 in the cache and depending on how your data is placed in memory.

24:13 Um, if it's randomly scattered,

24:16 every time you you see on the on the on the top uh chart,

24:22 every time the CPU does some work,

24:23 it's finished and then it does some more work and the memory

24:26 has to has to be moved over into the cache.

24:29 And so in order to optimize this, you just uh look at any algorithm,

24:33 you look at what the memory is touched and you try to move it back together.

24:37 And after the optimization, you get the bottom system where the CPU

24:41 works faster because everything is already in the cache.

24:43 This usually gives us um two to threex faster uh execution of a of a system.

24:49 And we did that for I would say maybe 20 different systems.

24:54 Um and so this uh this really optimizes

24:57 quite a lot uh the execution of something.

24:59 So I I mean a lot on the in the physics the surface simulation.

25:03 Um this has been done a little bit in the CFD and uh some

25:07 of the tissue simulations like the balloon um on on quite a quite a few places.

25:13 Um and on the next page I just I think I

25:16 made a uh if you want to skip to the next page.

25:20 Yeah, there's just a list of more other stuff we did.

25:22 Um so we did a lot of optimizations

25:24 on trying to reduce the number of memory allocations.

25:27 So this is actually for those who display the performance bar on the right side.

25:31 You can see how many allocations there are.

25:33 We have we have a lot.

25:34 We still have too many.

25:36 Um but we try to to reduce them.

25:38 So by sometimes we group allocations together.

25:41 Sometimes we we try to reduce temporary allocations.

25:45 Um um you can use the stack or you can just keep a buffer around.

25:49 So and this is uh when I look at the change log,

25:52 this has been uh dozens of change lists uh where we reduce allocations.

25:58 Um there's been uh so a big change between 2020 and 24 is that the ground

26:04 textures like the the lines in the airports

26:06 and everything these are all baked to a texture.

26:09 Um it's uh it's because basically there's way more

26:13 uh drawings on the on the ground on an airport.

26:15 It's just orders of magnitude more in 24 and uh

26:20 it is too slow to to to draw in real time.

26:22 So we bake it to a texture and uh the team has found big optimizations to reduce

26:27 the number of textures that we're baking um

26:30 to really only do the ones we really need.

26:32 These costs in VRAM.

26:34 So that's I think part of the gains on VRAM

26:36 that we did and it also is overall faster uh to process.

26:41 Um and uh so then we did also uh we moved a lot of work from the main

26:46 thread to par to um other threads like a lot

26:49 of file processing uh the animation scheduling animation system.

26:55 So that's a very complex system because we animate a lot

26:58 of stuff and animation is very expensive in the in the sim

27:02 because like on the cockpit you have so many

27:03 buttons and levers and all these need to be animated.

27:06 So it's a pretty complex system and it's been

27:08 improved um working over several uh cores and threads

27:12 and uh it's more efficient and we also optimize

27:14 the the simulation of the humans in the world.

27:17 Um so lots of lots of different things.

27:19 That's just a really a subset of the stuff we we optimize.

27:24 Thank you so much Seb that was great explanation of all

27:27 the performance improvements really appreciate it u we'll move on we have lots

27:32 of questions to answer here so the next one is what's the status

27:35 on features like bush trips Reno air races red bull air races etc

27:40 yeah so so Reno air races we are launching this um so we talked about it

27:44 with the national uh what are they called national

27:47 air race um so they're they're obviously in in Roswell

27:51 now and we just had a team they

27:53 are basically capturing the first flights and actually

27:55 looking what the layout of the course is

27:57 and that is when we're launching it next year.

27:59 Uh Red Bull air races the intention is we're working with Red Bull now to launch

28:03 this alongside SIM update 4 most likely

28:08 and uh bush trips are under development right now.

28:11 This something we're looking at for next year.

28:15 Awesome.

28:15 Um and for another feature, what is the status of the world hub for 2024?

28:21 Uh well, we're working on that.

28:23 So as York said earlier uh both team are not are not sharing the same imagery

28:29 data set but yet we still have some

28:32 differences in on the uh on the airport data.

28:36 So what we need to do is to uh do one

28:38 single tool that works for both simulations and both data sets.

28:41 So it will take some time.

28:43 So I will most probably set my usual uh answer.

28:47 It's in the pipe.

28:48 It's a matter of time, budget,

28:50 and priorities that we have to select with with Yorg and the team.

28:55 Yeah.

28:56 All right.

28:56 With night lighting being addressed by the team in the sim update 4 beta,

29:00 are there any improvements we can expect in terms of atmosphere and clouds next?

29:09 Yeah.

29:09 Hello.

29:10 Um, can you hear me?

29:12 Yeah, I lost you for a second.

29:14 You are back.

29:17 Okay.

29:17 I've lost audio.

29:18 Uh, are you going to show videos or or

29:22 Yep.

29:22 Can you hear us?

29:23 All right.

29:27 I've lost audio, too.

29:28 They both seem to be fading out.

29:30 We do have videos I can share.

29:33 Hi, Seb.

29:36 Is that a bum?

29:36 I hear everything.

29:37 I hear everything.

29:38 I I Yeah, I have a huge lag.

29:39 I don't hear anything.

29:42 Okay.

29:41 I've got I'm in the same situation.

29:43 I can't I can't hear anymore.

29:45 It might be um sorry the program if you guys can try restarting the voice

29:51 of video but for now maybe we'll have York

29:54 answer some other questions here in chat while they

29:57 work on that if you're okay with that York.

30:01 All right.

30:01 Um should we unog?

30:04 Yeah.

30:04 Yeah, that's how that's what you should do.

30:07 Oh, it's back.

30:08 It's back.

30:09 It's back.

30:11 Good.

30:11 All right.

30:12 If it happens again, try Yeah, try refreshing.

30:14 Might might fix it.

30:16 But yeah, we were talking about that.

30:18 We're sorry.

30:19 That's okay.

30:20 First the night lighting and then asking about improvements to atmosphere.

30:24 Yeah.

30:24 Yeah, the night lighting.

30:25 So, are you going to show like So,

30:27 the nightlighting I have a few videos if you want to maybe show

30:30 them um in order you want I will just talk to the videos.

30:34 Um if you can make them loop maybe.

30:39 Yeah, got them.

30:43 Yeah.

30:44 Is it playing maybe or not?

30:46 Yeah, playing.

30:47 Yes.

30:49 Okay.

30:49 I can I can I can't Yeah.

30:50 I don't see the feedback on on Twitch.

30:52 Uh okay.

30:53 Um so for the nightlighting um the team did an amazing job

30:57 because the the it's just to to realize the scale of the thing.

31:01 Um so to go back a little bit, we have a we had a a bug or task

31:05 in the wish list which is get rid of the CPI nightlighting.

31:09 Uh so the CPI is basically what we our solution

31:11 when we displayed the night lights at a long

31:14 distance because the basically when the lights so lights

31:18 are generated in real time based on the vector

31:20 data of the streets or everything and when

31:23 uh when they are far away we don't have that data anymore on the on the machine

31:27 and we need to display the lights at a distance.

31:29 So we had this this texture of the whole planet

31:32 fairly low resolution um and and monochromatic uh which was called

31:37 the sepia texture but it was really just the the night

31:41 lighting baked on a on a pretty low texture resolution.

31:44 So what we did is we baked all the lights

31:47 of the world onto a a much much higher resol resolution texture.

31:53 So this new texture is a 16 terapixel.

31:56 It's uh 4 mega 4 million by 4 million.

32:00 So it's it's huge.

32:02 Um and so this obviously 16 terixels if you if you do uh the math if you do

32:07 that in color and everything there's no way this can

32:09 fit on any anywhere any any on any machine.

32:13 So this is baked and it's just like the terrain

32:15 system uh with the daylight areas of the world.

32:19 It's been baked and moved to the cloud and this is

32:22 streamed uh to the local machine while you while you fly.

32:26 um which allows to have this resolution from from far

32:29 away or from from far away to very close.

32:31 You can just zoom in.

32:32 Um and uh and all the lights are baked exactly like they rendered in the sim.

32:37 So it's exactly the same lighting whether you're close or far away.

32:40 Um so obviously this is stream just like the terrain.

32:44 It's compressed before.

32:45 Um which in the end makes it much smaller.

32:48 Um but still this is a uh yeah this is the new processing.

32:52 We move the lights to the to the cloud and stream them in.

32:55 Um, so it should look like exactly the same when you look in the videos.

32:59 Um, there's one video where we zoom out continuously over Dubai.

33:04 Um, and uh, uh, you see that there's

33:09 virtually no difference between far away or close.

33:12 There's no break, no no transition.

33:14 It's continuous up to up you're out into space.

33:18 And um and so you have normally you have exactly the same

33:23 visuals when you're flying any light even even up to the horizon.

33:27 You should get uh uh the same uh the same visuals

33:30 of the streets and and and cities than than when you're close up.

33:33 So no breaks, no nothing is different from from a distance and close up.

33:38 And uh so there's a little we have we have some feedback.

33:41 We we need feedback.

33:42 So I think there's some improvements to make

33:44 on on airports which don't transition perfectly.

33:47 Um so on airports is a bit difficult to bake

33:50 because they don't have the same lighting from every direction.

33:54 Um and uh and so maybe there's a few

33:56 other things we so feedback is welcome here.

33:58 But this is yeah the completely new system uh

34:01 that is right now only on the sim update for beta.

34:05 Um but that would then be rolled out more generally.

34:08 And after that um so we're most most likely so

34:12 we have a backlog but uh we're going to focus

34:14 on the wish list um based on priorities um most

34:18 most uh from top to to bottom um we have

34:22 a backlog on on all the things weather clouds and everything

34:26 and uh and based on the priorities and the wish

34:28 list we will just tackle them down and and and uh

34:31 and that's going to be an upcoming uh sim updates.

34:35 Awesome.

34:35 Thank you.

34:37 Um yeah, really great job on that nightlighting.

34:40 We're getting the question, you know, will landmarks being lit up.

34:44 Um some landmarks are being lit up, right?

34:47 We do have this question actually later on.

34:49 So we're we'll answer that very shortly.

34:52 Um but our next question here is prior to MSFS

34:57 2024 allowing users to locally download install content via my library,

35:01 Seb talked about how the fully local size

35:03 of the sim would be between 1 to two terabytes.

35:06 However, users with the largest edition of the SIM

35:08 see that it's less than 500 gigs.

35:11 Is something still in the works to be downloaded downloaded locally like

35:14 an offline version of the terrain or was this number off previously?

35:21 Maybe me again.

35:22 So, um so yeah, we I double checked uh this all these informations are correct.

35:26 So when I think the number which was given uh between one and two terabytes

35:32 that was last December and at that time when we did a measure and so we

35:36 did not implement the the local download

35:39 was not implemented yet and we've measured 1.4

35:42 terabyte at that time uh and right now uh I mean we did that just yesterday.

35:48 We are we're just below 500 GB once it's installed and downloaded locally.

35:53 So uh we we double check nothing is missing here.

35:55 That's the the size right now of uh what it takes to install everything.

35:59 So we the team worked really hard to make sure it's as small as possible.

36:03 So the difference is really it's it's very heavily compressed.

36:06 Um and uh so both to limit uh bandwidth usage and the local disk

36:11 usage whereas what we measured uh last year was not not compressed as much.

36:16 It was more like the raw data and uh and uh so right now that's correct.

36:20 Nothing is missing.

36:21 nothing uh we didn't see anything or nothing is is supposed

36:25 to be added later except any any future update or anything.

36:29 Uh but uh that size is correct and it's just

36:32 been much more compressed uh than than a year ago.

36:37 Okay, thanks Seb.

36:40 All right, here's that question.

36:41 So since 2024 was released,

36:43 what is planned to fix the overly bright POI issues at night?

36:47 Um, I know the SU4 there was a fix for night flying,

36:51 which we saw like dark buildings and floating lights.

36:53 What's causing the bright lighting of POIs?

36:55 Is it because older world and city updates are not really compatible?

36:59 Um, or is there another issue causing this?

37:02 It's kind of both.

37:03 So, some of them were uh exported as 2020 packages which caused a problem.

37:07 And then this is there's also a bug.

37:10 I think when Gaia uploaded basically made some lights,

37:13 they changed the lighting values and they got distributed over

37:16 many POIs and all those fixes are currently in progress.

37:19 The Gaia teams on it, but it's unrelated to the other nightlighting.

37:24 Okay, got it.

37:25 Thank you, Yorg.

37:27 Um, and on the world map, you need to zoom in a lot to see the POIs in 2024.

37:33 Um, in 2020, you didn't have to zoom in all the way to see it.

37:36 So this person has to go to 2020 to make their flight plans based on POIs.

37:42 Is it possible to update this in 2024?

37:47 So actually yes, we uh did some changes in 2024

37:50 because the solution we we chosen was to behave uh like

37:56 a usual map service in map web service and so we

38:00 use the city name city names as as reference for location.

38:05 Um so by doing that we had some

38:07 eventually we had some readability issues on the maps.

38:10 So it has been decided not to be overloaded by by informations

38:15 to reduce the the zoom level on which the the POIs were

38:20 uh were displayed and I so we we did another review

38:25 with the team today uh with that um with that comment and it

38:29 looks like we can find a solution on which we could

38:32 also bring back some uh at least the the star POIs

38:37 on the web on the on the main map uh and to change

38:40 slightly the the behavior to reintroduce what we did on on 2020.

38:45 Yeah.

38:46 Awesome.

38:46 Thanks, Marciel.

38:49 All right.

38:49 Um, this is a question from chat.

38:52 So, how does the team decide um between if a hot fix needs to go

38:59 out versus if it's going to be in the next say beta um for testing?

39:06 Open to the floor.

39:08 So, so far the odd fixes are supposed to uh only fix the the the bugs

39:15 that are completely ruin the uh the experience

39:18 and that can prevent people to to play.

39:22 So, uh in order to do that uh so what we are

39:25 choosing to do is to uh to do that uh steam updates.

39:30 Um as a matter of fact, every time you do a change on the code,

39:33 there's some side effects and it's so complex to do something like team

39:39 that uh it takes time to do some tests and to collect all the feedbacks.

39:43 So doing odd fixes after fixes,

39:45 I don't think it would be the the best solution of uh doing the dev.

39:49 That's my opinion.

39:50 I think in I don't know your or if you want to add some answers to that.

39:55 No, it's complicated.

39:55 I mean I think this is a lot about the sim update 3 issue.

39:59 Um we obviously we were in we were in uh flighting for a long long time

40:06 and I think it came in I must have come in late I don't really remember it

40:10 but we have moved on at some point we we monitor how bad how good is it

40:14 you know feedback from the from the community throughout

40:16 the betas collected by Jane and team and we

40:19 look at the stats there a lot and then we make a decision to publish and then

40:23 we have a certain time that we let

40:24 a lapse to see if anything is weird or something

40:27 unexpected and then we move over to the next

40:29 sim as next sim update which is what we did in this case and then it's

40:33 really hard to roll back and do things simultaneously.

40:36 I'm not even sure it's possible on the bill release

40:38 side but I I think we heard the feedback that sim

40:42 update 3 had an issue and yep that is just we

40:47 went out we we we are learning from this for sure.

40:50 Yeah, thank you.

40:52 And many users have reported stuttering stutters on landing or a loss

40:58 in FPS when switching or panning their camera views at airports.

41:02 What is the status on the investigation for this?

41:06 Yeah, I can talk a little bit on this.

41:07 So, status on the investigation.

41:09 So, um the investigation is is is ongoing.

41:14 Uh I I actually checked again this week.

41:17 There has been two fixes in sim update

41:19 4 which is actually in the form of optimizations.

41:22 Um I don't remember if I put it in the list uh

41:24 when I went over the optimizations but one of them is an improvement

41:28 of the garbage collecting system uh which is actually affecting more studies

41:32 on landing and takeoff uh when you do uh larger movements in the world.

41:38 Uh so in sim 4 the garbage collection system has been optimized improved.

41:43 Um and uh another one which is loss on FPS which when you switch camera.

41:48 So I think it's mostly visible when you when you do like

41:51 a 180 degree turn instantly um or or at least very very rapid movements.

41:57 Um so uh this is the round texture baking system uh

42:01 for the airport uh markings and and all that which has to bake

42:05 all the textures uh that you want to see that are

42:09 coming into the view and uh um this has been this is

42:14 among the optimizations I think they they optimized it uh I don't

42:18 know if they have it but they they reduced the the amount

42:20 of unnecessary uh renders of the ground texture uh that that were

42:25 done Um there's also um so in in I remember when we

42:30 at the at the towards the beginning of 2020 we had

42:33 a similar issue and we introduced a a setting graphic setting that was

42:37 called caching pre-cache uh terrain uh something like that and I think

42:43 we almost or or maybe completely got rid of uh any studs

42:48 when you pan the camera if you had that on ultra um

42:51 and so this is all this this setting still exists this setting

42:54 still has the same impact it's just that this Ground texture baking

42:57 is new and uh it is not fully integrated to that uh system.

43:01 Uh right now the ground textures are baked when you need

43:04 them and they stay around for something like 10 or 20 seconds.

43:07 Um and so what we have in sim update 4 is

43:10 this has been optimized and I think the next step is

43:13 is to link this so that it they just don't go

43:16 away uh uh if that setting is maybe for ultra or something.

43:20 So I I we're not moving so fast on this because

43:23 this has a negative impact on VRAMm because if

43:26 we keep more ground textures in the RAM in the VRAMm

43:29 then obviously we're going to eat up more VRAMm.

43:32 Uh so we I think it's it's a better idea to make sure the VRAM is completely

43:36 fixed and then maybe we can expand the uh

43:40 the the the processing of uh of ground textures.

43:43 But it should be better in simil 4 because of these two

43:46 optimizations the garbage collection and and improved ground texture generation.

43:54 Yeah, thanks.

43:58 All right, we are still in our Q&A phase.

44:01 We are chatting about aircraft now.

44:06 And yeah, there are lots of questions in the forum

44:07 that was asking about various updates to some aircraft.

44:11 So, we'll go over a couple of them.

44:13 First one being, is there going to be an update to the EC135T1 by Nemoth?

44:18 Yep.

44:19 So, they actually just submitted a new build, I think yesterday.

44:22 It's currently in test.

44:23 Um, we'll make sure that it's a significant improvement before we move it out,

44:27 but I would say all almost all um

44:30 of the plane developers are working on updates.

44:33 You see this in Sim update 4 um increasingly.

44:37 I think it's 60 or 70 planes have been touched.

44:41 So Nemesis is just one of them.

44:44 Yep.

44:44 And then we also have how's Hans doing with ATR updates?

44:49 Yeah, there's two things.

44:49 I mean, basically the ATR is super popular, right?

44:51 So Hans right now is mostly working on improvement in bugs for 2020,

44:56 but we also um are working on a 2024 native

45:01 version and that's always been a collaboration with Sobo and Hans.

45:05 So Marcel, do you want to update on art?

45:08 Well, yes, the plan is to port the to the uh flight 2024 standards.

45:15 So, it comes with a bunch of new liveries and and variations

45:19 uh with the the system that flight in 2024 lows.

45:23 Um and one of the nicest variation we will bring is the eyelline one.

45:29 Uh this is the the very high-end kind of cabin they've got.

45:33 So, it's pretty nice and it's pretty neat.

45:35 So yeah, we're excited by that.

45:40 Yeah.

45:40 And you know from the ATR here,

45:43 what is the status on other aircraft in the Ava Aviator Edition?

45:48 Um there are some features,

45:50 some aircraft have features that are buggy or non-functional in 2024

45:54 and what is the status on all of those planes?

45:57 Yeah, I mean we we we obviously have a tracker for all planes.

46:00 Uh I would say the vast majority of them are being worked on.

46:03 Um, Simbed 4 is a huge push on aircraft.

46:06 Uh, you'll see that again.

46:08 As I said, I have a tracker that shows 120 planes.

46:11 I don't know exactly how many,

46:12 but most of them are being worked on one way or another.

46:16 There's actually for specifically for the aviator edition,

46:18 we have an investigation going on even at work title to see if they can if they

46:22 can find some easy fixes for some of these things

46:25 because it the backwards compatibility obviously should work.

46:28 Um, in some cases it doesn't.

46:30 I know for the park 7 it doesn't.

46:32 There's a few others.

46:33 Um, but yeah, you should expect them to be updated.

46:36 Not all of them will be 2024 native.

46:38 In some cases, it really doesn't make any sense.

46:41 Uh, but they should at least work for sure.

46:45 Awesome.

46:45 And in a recent stream, you mentioned the community shared

46:48 a comprehensive list of glider related issues,

46:51 some of which seemed weather related.

46:53 Do you have any updates on the glider topic?

46:56 I mean, you can answer some of this, Jane.

46:58 I mean, basically, we looked at gliders and the whole community.

47:00 We chatted quite a bit with um got friends about this.

47:03 Uh I was inspired by their what was it the month of soaring I think.

47:07 So that was cool and we talked what what are

47:10 the remaining topics on gliding and then I asked the community team

47:14 to also look through the forums to produce a um v

47:19 sort of a view of how the community feels about gliding.

47:22 So this is something we're going to look at for 2026.

47:24 It's it's one of those things.

47:26 We are aware of some things that the glider community would want and or needs.

47:30 So, we'll we'll prioritize it when we do the prioritization soon.

47:36 Yep.

47:36 Absolutely.

47:37 Um before we move on from our Q&A section,

47:40 um are you any are you seeing any questions you'd like to answer yourself here?

47:44 Oh, it's flying by so fast, honestly.

47:47 Fair enough.

47:48 Um we still have a couple more Q&A sections to go.

47:54 But first, we do want to talk here about a plane.

47:59 Ah, yeah.

47:59 I don't So, I got a lot of pings

48:02 on this and basically when we announced PlayStation 5,

48:04 we said, "Hey, if you if you pre-order just to be have something nice,

48:08 we said if you pre-order PlayStation now,

48:10 you're going to get this North P38A Talon for free." And then people ask,

48:15 is this also coming to the marketplace?

48:16 And the answer is yes, of course it is.

48:19 Um, and then if you go down, this is actually intended as famous flyer 13.

48:26 Keep going.

48:28 Yes, that's the name.

48:29 And it's developed by Blackbird.

48:30 And and which is great because I have a ton of experience here.

48:34 Um, if you go to the next slide, we have a special guest today.

48:37 And that is Colin.

48:44 Go.

48:42 All right.

48:43 We got Colin up.

48:45 Colin.

48:47 I am here.

48:48 Can you see my screen?

48:49 We can see your screen.

48:51 Thank you so much for joining us today, Colin.

48:52 We really appreciate the time you took out for this.

48:56 We'd love to hear about what you've been working on.

48:58 And see, you got your screen.

49:00 So, uh, yeah.

49:01 So, we are, uh, probably the world's biggest sim provider of simulators

49:08 for the T38 to the United States Air Force and AETC.

49:13 So, we know this plane really, really well.

49:17 So we have made this for uh for York and the Microsoft team and as you

49:23 can see it's our typical high quality

49:26 modeling and textures and attention to details

49:31 and uh yeah so I am going to uh start this plane up but please

49:37 forgive me I am not truly a simmer so if I screw it up excuse me.

49:46 All right.

49:47 So, first we open up this, we provide the huffer.

49:54 There it is outside.

49:55 Let's take a look.

49:58 Chat, if you have any questions throughout um Colin's presentation.

50:02 Where is it?

50:03 There it is.

50:04 Huffer.

50:06 All right.

50:07 So, let's get over here.

50:09 Okay.

50:10 So, now what I'm going to do is I'm going

50:13 to uh put the What am I going to do here?

50:17 Oh, yes.

50:18 I'm going to put the throttles in play.

50:21 This one first.

50:23 It's out of idle.

50:25 I'm going to press the start button.

50:30 And I'm going to check my numbers right here, here, and here.

50:36 Let's see.

50:39 Come on, let's go.

50:43 Hello.

50:45 Hello.

50:48 I did this like 18 times today.

50:53 How long have you been working on the team?

50:57 Oh, uh, 12 years.

51:00 Yeah.

51:00 What was your first p project?

51:04 My first project would have been the Corsair for A2A.

51:09 Oh, nice.

51:11 Yeah.

51:11 So, I'm not sure why this is not functioning here.

51:16 Was before.

51:18 Colin, come on.

51:23 Okay, that's not supposed to do that.

51:27 Come on.

51:30 Okay, here we go.

51:37 There we go.

51:38 I didn't hold it for a long enough.

51:42 Classic.

51:42 We all been Yes.

51:44 Yes.

51:45 It's like I had to hold it for a lot longer.

51:52 I could say the common meme there.

51:54 Okay.

51:54 So, we wait for N1 to hit about 500 and it'll spike and then come back down.

52:02 And while that's happening, we can prep engine two.

52:07 Well, actually, engine one.

52:09 We can start that one, too.

52:16 All right, we got a clean start.

52:20 Good to go, Carlo.

52:22 No, we're just screen sharing here, so there aren't sounds.

52:25 And yeah, the sound set does come from an actual T38.

52:34 Okay.

52:33 Right.

52:33 So, because you know, we have access to these aircraft.

52:38 Uh, so I'm going to turn the battery is on.

52:41 I'm going to hit up my lights.

52:46 Okay, I'm hitting my lights.

52:50 There's a lot of stuff that works in this.

52:52 Uh there is some stuff like TAN that doesn't really work properly.

52:56 Um okay, trim light is on.

52:59 Yaw damper needs to be on.

53:02 And I need PTO heat.

53:05 And now there are no parking brakes in this aircraft.

53:10 So I need to put on my parking brakes, which I have done.

53:16 And I'm going to get rid of the huffer

53:19 because I've got a clean start on both engines.

53:22 There we go.

53:23 Now my chalks are gone.

53:26 And I'm going to make sure that my flaps are down a little bit.

53:29 I think they actually already are.

53:32 No, they're not.

53:34 Okay.

53:35 Speed brakes are down.

53:36 I don't want that.

53:40 Okay.

53:43 and flaps down one.

53:47 Okay.

53:48 And let's check.

53:50 Speed brakes are still out.

53:52 Damn it.

53:55 Now, Colin, while you go through the startup process,

53:58 could you tell us a little bit about the uh development of this aircraft

54:02 and and what your team um has kind of worked on to make it happen?

54:07 So, uh, we took the models that were done for the Air Force,

54:13 uh, in P3D and we redid them from scratch entirely.

54:18 Um, we redid the code.

54:22 Um, we to we had done a T38A for uh, for Langley and for ATC, AETC and for NASA.

54:30 And so that's the code base that's in here mostly sort of.

54:35 uh we can't unfortunately go, you know,

54:38 one to one because uh the Air Force doesn't like it when we do that.

54:42 Um plus uh I don't think I don't think

54:46 we could afford to do it for for for that.

54:49 Um but uh yeah, so the model has been completely

54:55 redone and you can actually if you have the P3D one,

55:00 this one is way way nicer.

55:04 Way nicer.

55:06 Um and uh yeah, I think we've been we've been

55:09 doing this T38A for about I guess about a year.

55:12 That would be about right, York.

55:13 Something like that.

55:14 Um, and uh, yeah.

55:17 So, we're uh, we're ready for uh, takeoff.

55:23 Great.

55:22 So, I'm going to uh, yank it up.

55:26 Take off the brakes.

55:29 Let's go.

55:32 Great.

55:32 And yes, apologies chat for the reduced FPS as we were just screen sharing here,

55:37 but hopefully you'll get an idea of what this looks like.

55:42 And I can go up.

55:44 There we go.

55:46 Gear up.

55:48 And that's it.

55:53 Awesome.

55:52 So, it's a pretty good plane.

55:55 Uh I mean, we really we really love the T38A and uh

56:01 this has been approved by four uh four instructors uh who fly with AATC.

56:11 Cool.

56:12 And they uh they all said that it's really really good.

56:17 I should back off on my speed here a little bit.

56:21 There we go.

56:22 Uh so they all loved it.

56:24 They all said that it's pretty good.

56:26 Um one thing to know about the T38 is that it is I think 50 plus years old.

56:34 It's been around a long time and most

56:36 of the jets have had uh one incident or more.

56:41 And so they're all bent,

56:43 which means that they don't necessarily fly by the book.

56:50 In other words, the manuals are are and the perf charts are off.

56:54 Uh so some of them have been re-engineed but not reint.

56:59 Uh and uh yeah, we really love the way this plane looks.

57:04 I'm just going to take my hand off the stick here.

57:09 Again, I'm not a I'm not a simmer, so I don't really Oh, flaps.

57:13 Oh, I forgot to put my flaps up.

57:15 See, I'm not a slim a simmer.

57:18 Oh, no.

57:20 Oh, I think I'm gonna crash this one.

57:24 It's not the plane.

57:25 It's me.

57:25 Truly, it really is me.

57:27 I did warn you, Jane.

57:30 Fine, Colin.

57:32 Anyway, I prepared to take questions,

57:34 so uh feel free to ask anything about this.

57:37 So, I'm gonna probably restart my flight here.

57:41 Very nice.

57:42 Look at that.

57:43 Okay, that's beautiful.

57:46 All right, here we go.

57:48 So, uh yeah, feel free to ask any questions.

57:52 I'm uh I'm available.

57:56 Awesome.

57:56 Well, Colin, thank you so much for sharing this.

57:58 Yeah, if we see any questions come in later or something, we can

58:02 I'm around.

58:03 Yeah, we'll get those answered.

58:05 But appreciate you coming on here and uh sharing the plane.

58:11 So, thanks Colin.

58:13 Appreciate it.

58:16 Bye.

58:18 Okay, now that we've taken a look at that, we will now move

58:21 on to some questions about career mode and also a few marketplace questions.

58:29 All right, here we go.

58:30 I saw this question in chat earlier, so now we can answer it.

58:34 First off, congratulations to any builds on the A340 release.

58:38 It's an exciting addition.

58:40 That said, one of the key points of community discussion has been marketplace

58:44 exclusivity with some users speculating that it

58:47 may be related to piracy concerns.

58:50 With that in mind, will any builds and any other developers have access

58:54 to more streamlined process for delivering timely

58:57 hot fixes and updates to their marketplace items?

59:02 Yeah, I mean so I first off I mean and I builds um very excited about the plane.

59:07 I would say that um I think I I saw it in their forums too

59:11 that they one of the reasons is

59:13 the community is the is the privacy privacy things.

59:16 I think they explained that but I think there's a little bit of a it's a kind

59:21 of a misperception I would say about the process

59:23 and and we have to separate between 2020 and 2024.

59:27 So in 2024, Microsoft we we by and large completely got out of the way.

59:32 So you can basically now uh if you're a developer you you just submit

59:37 the package and it just goes through like

59:40 we don't really we don't really touch it.

59:42 That is the only way it's not that way is if it's a WAM plane because we

59:46 have a WAM DLL that gets created and the the 340 for example is a WASM plane but

59:52 and I I I chatted with uh Ubide yesterday who was

59:55 the head of IS just to say hey there's a perception

59:58 that somehow uh our updates are slower on the marketplace

1:00:02 and and there was a list of eye planes where that was

1:00:05 the case but it really has something to do

1:00:07 with the developer themselves that they have to send the package over

1:00:10 to the marketplace of course in order to be to be

1:00:13 published and the other thing is sometimes people are waiting so

1:00:17 on their own store they basically update the PC version only

1:00:21 um and when they send it to the marketplace it's PC

1:00:23 and Xbox but they don't have to you can literally just

1:00:26 update the PC version and go for it um so I think

1:00:29 Abide is going to talk about this publicly in his own

1:00:32 forums and in general I would just say we we we

1:00:37 are likely going to publish when people send us packages just

1:00:40 to show you that the delay is really not on our side.

1:00:43 If the developer does not send the package to us, we of course can't publish it.

1:00:47 So that's basically the update.

1:00:49 The in 2020 it's much more much more complicated for us.

1:00:53 The process was different, which is why we changed it for 2024,

1:00:56 but in 2024, it's it's as streamlined as we can make it.

1:01:00 Yeah.

1:01:01 Okay, that makes sense.

1:01:02 Thank you, Yorg.

1:01:04 Now, is regarding career mode, I see this in chat a lot too.

1:01:08 Is there any updates or information you can

1:01:11 give about adding heavy cargo jobs into career mode?

1:01:18 I think I'm good.

1:01:18 Yeah, you are muted, Marcel.

1:01:23 Okay.

1:01:23 So, uh y'all can can can be the witness here.

1:01:27 I'm always doing that like I'm very sorry.

1:01:32 So yes, uh the plan is still to get the AV and super AV unlock for SIM update 4.

1:01:39 The the plans which are needed for that are still currently being

1:01:43 uh reviewed by SQ by the team that are testing the plan.

1:01:47 But I think we are in good shape.

1:01:49 So we should uh we should be able to um

1:01:52 to unlock the specialization for a cargo transport AV and super AV.

1:01:56 So for uh the cargo transport the the mission will uh let you

1:02:03 to do some regent mid-range to uh to longrange flights uh from uh intercon using

1:02:11 in interont intercontinental flights I'm sorry

1:02:15 and the main the main plan for that is

1:02:17 the the name is very long long is Airbus A330P2F am I right?

1:02:25 Yes, I think I'm right.

1:02:27 And for uh the super heavy um well uh it's super cool.

1:02:33 You've got Peduga.

1:02:34 You can do missions like uh from big airports

1:02:37 go to uh to some spaceports carrying some space equipment.

1:02:42 So that's that's super exciting.

1:02:45 Yeah, that's awesome.

1:02:48 Um, and then switching back to the marketplace,

1:02:52 why does it still take years for new

1:02:53 developers to get accepted to the marketplace?

1:02:55 Can you elaborate on how the application process works and why

1:02:59 devs don't hear from us uh years after submitting their application?

1:03:05 Well, so it's interesting.

1:03:06 So, we had so we we had locked this down

1:03:09 for a while simply because of the backlog we had,

1:03:12 but we have not done this lately.

1:03:14 So, basically applications are being approved.

1:03:16 There is a little bit of a backlog.

1:03:19 I don't I'm not that close to it, but I would say last time I looked there were

1:03:22 like 1,800 applications and then when you look at them,

1:03:26 they don't really have any real world people behind them.

1:03:29 So, the team is still weeding through some of these

1:03:32 but I saw in the for example I saw

1:03:34 in the chat earlier something about micropose and the B7.

1:03:37 I completely agree.

1:03:38 Sounds really cool.

1:03:40 Um talked to them a little bit and they are approved.

1:03:43 Um, and then I just during the chat I

1:03:46 also saw that somebody was talking about IV RW profiles.

1:03:50 Um, and that is we're looking at this right now.

1:03:52 We had an email conversation about it just the other day.

1:03:54 The the head of that group and I and I think

1:03:57 this is going to go through very very quickly, maybe even today.

1:04:01 Um, but it really is that we just need to go weed

1:04:04 through the 1800 and and a lot of them are not valid anymore.

1:04:08 So a lot of people have like done multiple applications just because they

1:04:12 didn't know if the something was not right with the tool or whatnot.

1:04:15 So it's just going to take a little bit of time.

1:04:17 I think what we did with the freeware Jane was really cool where we

1:04:20 asked the community what is the priorities

1:04:23 because we acted on that pretty right away.

1:04:24 I would love to do something similar because it's not

1:04:27 the lack of intent or the lack of openness to doing this.

1:04:30 It's more the you know practical matter of like what is actually important.

1:04:35 Yeah, we we still have that thread going on in the forums.

1:04:38 Uh maybe CDL can link to that if if you can find it.

1:04:42 Um but that's been really great to see what is important to the community.

1:04:46 So that way it helps the marketplace team kind of look through

1:04:48 those 1,800 and go find them for for us and get them approved.

1:04:57 Okay, next questions.

1:04:59 Well, definitely got a lot of questions about PlayStation 5 in our forum,

1:05:04 so we thought we would talk about this a little bit.

1:05:10 Okay, so PlayStation 5,

1:05:13 will MSFS 2024 have crossplay when it comes out on PS5

1:05:18 so I can play with my friend who plays on Xbox?

1:05:22 It does not.

1:05:23 We are not logging into the Xbox

1:05:25 authentication service and there is no crossplay.

1:05:30 Okay.

1:05:31 Which peripherals will be PS5 compatible at PlayStation launch?

1:05:37 Um so we are in some interesting situation here.

1:05:40 Some uh we've got some uh some on PlayStation 5 which

1:05:43 are not working on PlayStation 5 games but only with PS4 games.

1:05:48 But we've got one working.

1:05:49 Uh it's a Tresmaster T flight Otas 4.

1:05:52 And this one will be fully supported uh on PS5.

1:05:56 Uh because it looks like it's the only that works with PS5 games.

1:06:06 Yep.

1:06:06 And we also have a question about the controller support.

1:06:09 Now that we're going to be releasing for PS5,

1:06:13 do we plan on improving the user experience with the gamepad

1:06:17 for those who don't use a mouse for the sim?

1:06:21 So, we are improving or we're trying to improve the the inputs,

1:06:24 but this is a generic transversal for the PS5 version.

1:06:28 We have tried as much as possible to get a good

1:06:31 usage of all the specific features um on the PS5 files.

1:06:36 So we are supporting haptics, we're supporting sun outputs and and also

1:06:40 the touchpads for for some future links.

1:06:44 Yeah.

1:06:44 For for the rest it goes with the all the improvement we made for uh

1:06:47 the simates through simoted 4 because the PS5 version will be uh with simoted 4.

1:06:54 Thanks Marciel.

1:06:56 And will add-on support and the marketplace work on PlayStation 5?

1:06:59 We'll start with that question for entering the rest eventually.

1:07:02 I mean basically PlayStation we we want to make sure that everything is stable.

1:07:06 Um and so stability some this instability sometimes comes from third

1:07:12 party add-ons actually more than more than you might realize.

1:07:16 Um so we are going to be careful.

1:07:18 The first things that we're going to put there

1:07:20 is the first party ones that are more thoroughly tested

1:07:23 and then over time probably in the spring or so

1:07:26 we're going to carefully add third party content into the marketplace.

1:07:33 Yeah.

1:07:32 And will those add-ons um including WASM support like have the same pricing?

1:07:39 Do you anticipate anything different there?

1:07:41 I mean, pricing is not up to us.

1:07:43 Um that's up to the developers.

1:07:44 They set their own prices.

1:07:46 For ours, it's the same.

1:07:48 Yeah.

1:07:49 And will developers expect additional work and QA on PlayStation

1:07:52 or is everything expected to be compatible out of the box?

1:07:58 I mean, it should be compatible.

1:07:59 We're doing testing right now.

1:08:01 As a matter of fact, I think today might be the launch of the beta.

1:08:04 Uh, you might be aware we had like a call in for a closed beta on PlayStation,

1:08:10 so we see a bunch more people than just us playing this.

1:08:14 Um, but so far there hasn't been much unique bugs to PlayStation,

1:08:19 but that's why we're doing the beta really.

1:08:23 For sure.

1:08:25 And I know you have a little bit of an announcement here.

1:08:28 York, here we go.

1:08:29 Oh yeah.

1:08:29 I mean, this has been long time coming.

1:08:32 Uh, Red Bull Air Race, I think,

1:08:33 is always doing a great job getting this readied for the PlayStation launch.

1:08:37 We're we're now uh we just sent this over

1:08:39 to some test pilots on the Red Bull side, but it's it's it's hard.

1:08:44 I would say that feedback from testers, this is a this is fun but challenging,

1:08:49 and it kind of should be because that's what Red Bull really is.

1:08:51 But we're we're working hard to make this great.

1:08:56 Yep.

1:08:56 Um, and going back to clarify when when we

1:08:59 asked about crossplay and how there won't be crossplay um,

1:09:03 because of the authentication, I think similar question.

1:09:06 Will will PC Xbox marketplace purchases be

1:09:08 in our library if we buy the PS5 version?

1:09:11 It's totally separate products.

1:09:13 Yeah.

1:09:14 Okay.

1:09:14 Thank you for clarifying that.

1:09:17 All right.

1:09:18 It's time for Famous Flyer 14.

1:09:21 Yeah.

1:09:21 So, this is a long story.

1:09:22 Like so two three years ago I had a I had a really cool

1:09:26 conversation with the CEO of a company called Boom and uh he basically told me

1:09:32 the vision of his of the first uh supersonic airliner made in the United

1:09:37 States and then we sort of honestly lost track of each other a little bit.

1:09:42 But then um maybe a year ago or so we we rekindled that conversation.

1:09:46 They had made a bunch of progress.

1:09:47 They were close to they had done a bunch of test flights.

1:09:50 Got close to it with their demonstrator plane

1:09:53 which is this this plane the famous flyer.

1:09:55 I call it famous flyer because I think it's pretty famous.

1:09:58 Um it's called the Boom XP1.

1:10:01 Go to the next slide.

1:10:05 Yeah.

1:10:04 And the Boom XP1 I'm super happy.

1:10:07 This is the first collaboration of two of the best

1:10:09 teams I think in this in our industry.

1:10:12 Flight of X and Work Title.

1:10:14 And we have representatives of both of them here

1:10:17 to talk tell us a little bit more about the boom.

1:10:20 We do.

1:10:21 We have Chris Bernett from Working Title and Marowan from Flight Effects.

1:10:26 Welcome.

1:10:28 Thank you for joining us.

1:10:30 And thank you for Yeah, we appreciate it.

1:10:36 So, let's go ahead and talk about the boom a little bit.

1:10:40 Sure.

1:10:40 Um, so we were really excited to to be approached

1:10:44 by for this project and we were super psyched to get uh teamed up

1:10:48 with flight effects to uh help us or really take the lead

1:10:52 on the art side of it and the aircraft systems, the flight model.

1:10:56 That's really cool.

1:10:57 Um, and we worked uh on the avionic systems.

1:11:01 So, we'll talk about the avionics a little bit later,

1:11:03 but we got to build two brand new systems for this aircraft.

1:11:07 Um, and I just want to sort of give a shout out to the team at Boom Supersonic.

1:11:10 They have been so helpful.

1:11:13 Um, really exciting.

1:11:15 Uh, they are really excited to work with us.

1:11:16 We've been really excited to work with them.

1:11:18 Um, and and really the designers and the test

1:11:22 pilot are the people we've been working with most closely.

1:11:25 So, I think one of the shots Marwan

1:11:27 that you'll show has got Jeppetto's name on the side

1:11:30 and he's the test pilot and we've been

1:11:32 talking to him almost constantly for four months.

1:11:35 Um and then the other piece which I'll talk about a little bit more

1:11:37 in the avionics is the there's a custom

1:11:40 instrument in this that was actually written and designed

1:11:42 by um a a aircraft avionics specialists software

1:11:47 developer at boom and he wrote the software

1:11:50 for this instrument and we got um some of the raw source code from him.

1:11:54 A lot of really cool stuff.

1:11:55 So we're super psyched about this project.

1:11:57 I hope you guys are uh excited about it too and hope you love the aircraft.

1:12:01 Um, I'll let Marwan talk a little bit

1:12:03 about some of the unique aspects of the flight

1:12:04 model and the modeling and stuff and I'll

1:12:07 come back and talk about avionics in a minute.

1:12:09 Thanks Chris.

1:12:10 Yeah, absolutely.

1:12:11 Thank you Chris.

1:12:12 Uh, so at flight effects we're doing the 3D modeling artwork,

1:12:16 flight modeling and and the systems and this is this has been very

1:12:20 exciting for us because first of all this is our first supersonic aircraft.

1:12:24 Second of all, we've been like working with Boom.

1:12:27 uh they share our passion uh to actually get this aircraft

1:12:32 uh in a very uh let's say accurate representation of its

1:12:38 quirks and features in in the sim and the response

1:12:41 and the assets that we've received from the other side was amazing.

1:12:44 We've also worked for the first time hand uh in hand

1:12:48 with the working title and it's it's been a joy uh so far.

1:12:53 So this is a pretty uh significant aircraft in general

1:12:56 because this is the precursor to the return of the supersonic

1:13:01 airliner and essentially the XV1 is a technology demonstrator

1:13:05 for boom and it shows that it is a technology demonstrator.

1:13:10 Uh this the XV1 can go all the way to mock 1.4.

1:13:15 Uh, I don't want to like one up columns,

1:13:18 but it does have three engines of the same variants that are on the T38.

1:13:25 So, we have one extra engine here.

1:13:28 Uh, so, uh, working on this, we didn't have a lot of documentations,

1:13:33 but what we did have was almost instant access

1:13:36 to the people that are most familiar with the aircraft.

1:13:40 Uh we have Japetto which the aircraft is aptly named after and he gave

1:13:47 us things that you cannot really capture

1:13:49 in documentation but actually having hands-on experience.

1:13:54 So the aircraft is kind of quirky.

1:13:59 For example, you would imagine a supersonic aircraft

1:14:03 to have kind of like flybywire control systems.

1:14:08 But on the XV1, the control systems are surprisingly simple.

1:14:12 There is no fly by wire, but there is a set of control interfaces to make it

1:14:18 difficult for the pilot to actually

1:14:19 overstress the aircraft in supersonic flight.

1:14:22 And it's been kind of a headscratcher for us on how can we convey

1:14:27 these systems on on on a flat screen with with our kind of joysticks.

1:14:31 One of these systems is called the Q field system,

1:14:34 which is essentially increasing the force that a pilot

1:14:38 needs to input as the fastet the aircraft goes.

1:14:43 And I'm sure that around 99.99% of people don't have force feedback joysticks.

1:14:49 So uh I think we found some novel approaches to model

1:14:56 these kind of systems in the sim where you actually

1:14:59 have to physically move your joystick more for uh for let's

1:15:04 say actuation of control surfaces the faster the aircraft uh does.

1:15:09 We also have a lot of dampers, pitch damper, roll damper, yaw dampers.

1:15:15 That was a little bit difficult to make sure that it works in supersonic flight,

1:15:20 but it results in an aircraft that is

1:15:24 actually pretty controllable without any computer aided assistance.

1:15:28 Another quirky system on the on the XB1 is the center of gravity management.

1:15:35 And this is a topic that is extremely important in something supersonic flight.

1:15:40 And this XV1 kind of guzzles on gas.

1:15:44 So you you burn through a lot when going over sonic supersonic when you are uh

1:15:50 uh using the after burners and this constant

1:15:53 burnout of of fuel shifts the center of gravity.

1:15:57 So there is a whole system behind it

1:15:59 that moves the fuel around and prioritizes one of each

1:16:04 of the of the five tanks on the aircraft

1:16:06 to keep the center of gravity within a specific range.

1:16:11 Uh, another fun fact is that the XB1

1:16:14 doesn't have flaps and it has extremely short wings.

1:16:17 So you can imagine that it it kind of lands very hot.

1:16:21 So you're landing at around 12 degrees angle

1:16:25 of attack and it provides absolutely no forward visibility.

1:16:29 However, uh the engineers at Boom uh were pretty smart with this that you

1:16:35 do have a very big screen in the center and and Chris will

1:16:38 talk about this shortly where you have a an actual camera um so you

1:16:44 can see your surroundings on runway while

1:16:46 you're completely nose up uh during landing.

1:16:50 Uh another fun another quirk is that it doesn't have lighting.

1:16:55 Uh it is designed as a test bed during daytime.

1:16:59 So no interior exterior lighting, no anti ice as well.

1:17:02 It is certified generally for clear weather.

1:17:05 But it it does come with a wide variety of features.

1:17:08 We do have accurately modeled hydraulics,

1:17:12 electrics, pressurization, obviously the fuel system,

1:17:15 control systems, and of course it brings to the table a ton of speed.

1:17:20 Uh that being said, one of the most exciting aspects that uh

1:17:27 is introduced in this aircraft is it actually has a built

1:17:30 from the ground up uh GPS system uh that I think brings

1:17:36 the G u a whole new set of avionics to the sim.

1:17:40 Uh the Avid 540 and 550.

1:17:44 G uh will talk to you about that.

1:17:49 Thanks, Marwan.

1:17:50 Yeah, I mean the Q field system was was pretty

1:17:52 interesting to coordinate between our teams because we've got displays.

1:17:55 Uh same with the CG uh which I'll show a little bit,

1:17:58 but I'll talk just a little bit about the avionics.

1:18:01 I'll try to keep it uh short, but uh we've got uh two all new

1:18:05 avionics packages that we built for this aircraft.

1:18:08 Um the one I'm really excited about is I mean I'm excited about them both,

1:18:11 but I think the one I'm more excited about is the Avdine um IFD 550 and 540.

1:18:17 And those are the instruments on the left and the right here.

1:18:19 Um, there's also the custom MFD that was designed and programmed by Boom,

1:18:23 and we've done our best to faithfully reproduce that.

1:18:26 But I'm also really excited to announce that in SIM update 5,

1:18:30 we're going to be bringing the Avidines as SIM attachments.

1:18:32 I've seen a ton of threads over the years,

1:18:34 people wondering when we get an alternative to the GNS series in the SIM.

1:18:39 And so, yes, in SIM update 5, third party devs will be able to put the uh IFD540

1:18:45 and 550 into the SIM um into their aircraft uh sim attachments.

1:18:50 So, we're super psyched about that.

1:18:53 Uh just quickly, some just some views of the IFDs.

1:18:57 We've got the flight plan page um and and nav map with the flight plan sidebar.

1:19:05 You can go on, Jane.

1:19:07 Yep.

1:19:07 Okay.

1:19:10 Um, let's see.

1:19:11 We've got the nearest tab.

1:19:13 Again, just kind of showing some

1:19:14 of the some of the screens from this instrument.

1:19:16 It's nice and colorful.

1:19:18 Um, but yeah, so in the nearest tab, we got frequencies.

1:19:20 You can auto set those through the interface.

1:19:23 Uh, we get metar weather weather data.

1:19:26 Um, then on the right side, we've got the IFX page and setup tab showing.

1:19:31 Um, there's tons of customization that users

1:19:33 will be able to do with that instrument.

1:19:35 Um, and set up data blocks.

1:19:37 One of the unique things in the boom is that they actually worked

1:19:40 with Avanine to customize the IFD550 which is the instrument on the left.

1:19:46 And what they did was build their own or design their own

1:19:49 PFD as kind of a backup that is on the 550.

1:19:54 So when you put the IFD 550 in a normal aircraft,

1:19:57 you won't have this full screen um PFD view, but it is custom for the boom.

1:20:02 And so we built that uh specifically for the implantation and boom.

1:20:06 So, you've got a synthetic vision version and one without.

1:20:10 Um, let's see.

1:20:11 Yeah, the custom PFD includes some other data

1:20:14 that's not usually available like the air speed,

1:20:16 altitude, temperatures, mock, angle of attack, etc.

1:20:20 Uh, let's see.

1:20:21 This is the IFD map showing terrain awareness.

1:20:23 So, that's that's a pretty cool feature and it's got

1:20:25 kind of a unique look on the on the Avdine.

1:20:28 So, we're pretty psyched about that, too.

1:20:34 All right, let's talk a little bit about this custom MFD.

1:20:36 Marwan alluded to it a little bit.

1:20:38 Um, it's got some cool features that um they

1:20:42 built specifically for the demonstrator and also uh specifically

1:20:48 to address some of the issues with uh

1:20:50 the limited visibility and the high pitch angle on landing.

1:20:53 Um, so this this real world instrument was created by Boom.

1:20:57 They wrote all the software and we got

1:20:59 to work directly with with the gentleman that did

1:21:01 all that and he shared some some of the raw code with us to help us out.

1:21:05 Um, it serves as the primary PFD

1:21:07 and MFD including things like engine indications,

1:21:09 fuel indications, crew alerting and and more.

1:21:13 Um, so let's let's see.

1:21:16 So what we've got on this page is the engine page.

1:21:19 So kind of along the bottom there are some soft buttons.

1:21:22 Um, and there's some of them that they

1:21:24 originally put in there that they don't use.

1:21:26 And so those are gray out in the real unit and and for us as well.

1:21:29 Um so this one shows more detailed engine and systems data.

1:21:32 We've got electrical uh we've got uh center gravity and fuel data.

1:21:38 Let's move on.

1:21:48 And then this this page is really just for the landing gear.

1:21:51 um shows detailed status of each of the landing

1:21:54 gear doors and and the landing gear itself.

1:21:59 And yeah, this is so this is this the landing configuration.

1:22:02 So it's got a camera in the aircraft that we've uh replicated on the PFD.

1:22:08 So it goes into this kind of landing mode and it gives you a little bit

1:22:11 of a down view um so that you can

1:22:13 see the runway while you're at that higher pitch approach.

1:22:17 It's also got kind of a a generated ILS feature.

1:22:22 So, it it's a pseudo ILS really.

1:22:24 There is not a nav radio that this is driven by.

1:22:27 In the real aircraft, it's set up just to work on one runway.

1:22:31 Um, it creates a twoderee glide path and and lateral guidance

1:22:35 into this one particular runway that they were using for testing.

1:22:39 Uh, this is one liberty we took in coordination with Boom for the for the SIM

1:22:43 aircraft is you can actually program this to work

1:22:46 at any any runway at any airport.

1:22:48 That way people can actually fly this around around

1:22:51 the world wherever they like and get this landing assistance.

1:22:54 Um, yeah.

1:22:55 So, so that's that's that instrument.

1:22:57 And then in the lower right there on the overview page,

1:22:59 I just wanted to point out Marwan mentioned

1:23:01 the center of gravity and the fuel management.

1:23:04 Um, and that's all kind of hooked up

1:23:06 so you can monitor and see that system working, which is really cool.

1:23:11 Cool.

1:23:11 Thank you, Chris.

1:23:12 Um, anything you wanted to add, Marwan?

1:23:16 No, I'm fine.

1:23:17 Uh, if there are any questions, would love to take them if you Cool.

1:23:21 chat, if you have any questions about um the boom, let us know.

1:23:25 While we wait for any of those to come in, um,

1:23:29 we had some questions about some other planes.

1:23:30 So once once our our guests are finished presenting,

1:23:34 we will ask a couple of those.

1:23:38 Um really cool.

1:23:40 Great to see the new avionic systems.

1:23:42 U well job well done to both of you and your teams.

1:23:45 It's great to see uh this plane come out with such high fidelity.

1:23:50 So thank you so much.

1:23:52 Thank you Jane.

1:23:53 Appreciate it.

1:23:54 Yeah.

1:23:54 Well, this Oh, is there pricing on this aircraft?

1:23:58 Yes, there is.

1:23:59 It's free.

1:24:01 Yeah.

1:24:02 So, I'm super excited about this.

1:24:04 Like I I get to work with Work Title and Flight

1:24:06 Effects on on things and having those two teams doing this together.

1:24:10 I think it's going to be awesome.

1:24:13 Yeah.

1:24:12 And the and that how the how much

1:24:14 Boom is supporting the teams is also really great.

1:24:17 They are super excited about this and I think we should welcome this.

1:24:21 I'm you know there's an overturn years from now.

1:24:23 We're all hoping we're going to get this as soon as we can.

1:24:26 Um but yeah, I think the the XP1 is going to be great.

1:24:29 Yeah.

1:24:30 Thank you guys.

1:24:31 All right.

1:24:31 Thank you Chris and Marwan for presenting on this.

1:24:34 Really appreciate you all.

1:24:36 Thanks a lot.

1:24:37 Thank you Jane.

1:24:37 See you.

1:24:39 Thanks.

1:24:41 All right.

1:24:42 Come back around.

1:24:43 Yeah.

1:24:43 The aircraft that I saw some questions about was about the tour, right?

1:24:48 Because the preortor came off and like oh no.

1:24:50 Yeah.

1:24:50 Do you have any updates you want to share?

1:24:52 Yorg.

1:24:53 Well, Chris should.

1:24:54 Can we get him back in?

1:24:55 Oh, we we can if he's still on.

1:24:57 Let's check.

1:24:58 Chris, he's still there.

1:25:00 I'm still here.

1:25:01 All right.

1:25:03 Tour, baby.

1:25:05 Yeah.

1:25:05 You want to talk about the pre tour?

1:25:07 Look at that.

1:25:09 Sure.

1:25:09 I mean, progress is is progressing.

1:25:14 It's awesome.

1:25:15 Um, I don't know if I talked about this before,

1:25:16 but the team has been building a custom EFB app for it.

1:25:20 Um, yeah, the avionics are coming along.

1:25:23 I mean, the Proline Fusion is really, really complex.

1:25:26 It's even more so, I think, than the Epic 2 was.

1:25:29 So, um, yeah, I mean, it's it's still going.

1:25:34 So, making the art working title.

1:25:36 Yep, that's correct.

1:25:37 Yeah, in fact, I think that's I think that's pretty much done.

1:25:41 Uh, Benjamin and his team over at ASO did really a fantastic job on the art.

1:25:45 We've been we've been thrilled with it.

1:25:46 U, there may be a few a few things left to clean up there,

1:25:49 but um, yeah, we're we're progressing as quickly as we can.

1:25:54 I I don't think I can talk about a release date.

1:25:56 Um but yeah, it's it's next year sometimes.

1:26:00 We don't we haven't quite decided.

1:26:04 Awesome.

1:26:05 Thank you for the update.

1:26:06 Any any other questions about questions?

1:26:14 Okay, cool.

1:26:15 Okay, thank you.

1:26:17 Thanks again.

1:26:20 All right, back to our road map.

1:26:23 Yeah, somebody said, "What is surprise on road map?" Oh, I got even more grief.

1:26:28 So, I basically just want to say if you go to the next page,

1:26:30 so this is what we've done lately.

1:26:32 I've added the the Northrup down there and then there's obviously more more

1:26:36 things planned and I made a slide and Seb was actually asked me earlier,

1:26:40 are you really going to show this?

1:26:41 I was like, go to the next slide, which is lame.

1:26:46 This one by surprise.

1:26:48 Yeah.

1:26:49 So, we're not gonna we can't talk about it today,

1:26:52 but it's it's cool and I think you'll you'll like it.

1:26:54 It's coming in December.

1:26:55 So, one more great thing.

1:26:57 So, Sim update 4, of course, that's really the full focus.

1:26:59 And I I did read this the threads,

1:27:01 of course, I understand the Sim update 3 pain.

1:27:04 Sim update 4.

1:27:05 Everything we've seen so far is really positive.

1:27:08 So, let's make sure that Sim update 4 is truly great.

1:27:11 And then right after that comes this surprise.

1:27:14 And it's obviously not PlayStation, that's already out there.

1:27:16 So, you know, it'll be good.

1:27:20 Yeah.

1:27:20 All right.

1:27:20 Um, we are a little bit past our time here.

1:27:25 Uh, we really didn't get to a lot

1:27:27 of chat questions because we were so overloaded today.

1:27:29 So, maybe we could if you have time we could answer a couple and then Yeah.

1:27:34 and then head out here.

1:27:35 Um, I mean, we we get this question I think every time.

1:27:40 Will shared cockpit ever be coming to 2024?

1:27:44 I don't know if you'd like to address that one.

1:27:46 Uh, the H225.

1:27:47 I mean, so I got I I got a new build just uh two days ago from Yeah.

1:27:53 Okay.

1:27:54 There was just a Sorry, maybe I'm not answering your question.

1:27:57 That's okay.

1:27:59 I think it's a fair point.

1:28:00 Like basically the 225 obviously there was some struggles.

1:28:03 I think the the team was shared some of their struggles.

1:28:08 Um but they have produced a new build.

1:28:10 It just went into the test two days ago or yesterday, one or the other.

1:28:14 And the hope is to get that out for some update 4 if it's stable.

1:28:19 Yeah.

1:28:19 Awesome.

1:28:21 All right.

1:28:23 Let's see.

1:28:24 There are some aircraft that aren't compatible with the flight planner.

1:28:28 For example, A320 and A330 models.

1:28:31 Um, you can't transfer a planned flight to the MCDU.

1:28:34 Would this feature be added later so that all

1:28:36 first-party aircraft will eventually be compatible with the flight planner?

1:28:45 You got Chris back exactly what this guy That's true.

1:28:50 You Chris, what what was the question?

1:28:55 Sorry.

1:28:55 The question was about uh the flight planner.

1:28:58 Um there are still some first party aircraft like A320, A330 where they

1:29:03 can't transfer a planned flight to the MCDU like they can with Simbrief.

1:29:07 And they're wondering if this feature is in the works for the flight planner.

1:29:11 Uh yeah, in fact, I guess I'm a little surprised.

1:29:14 I thought that in the most recent builds of those planes that was working.

1:29:19 Um but I'm I could be wrong.

1:29:23 Um we wrote a an API for both JavaScript and WAM

1:29:30 uh that I think was released with some update one or two.

1:29:34 Yeah.

1:29:34 um that allows WAM aircraft to interact with the EFB

1:29:39 and send the flight plan in both directions.

1:29:41 Um so that is theoretically working but I do know um that I builds was working

1:29:48 on that and we answered some questions for them

1:29:50 and they found some bugs which we fixed.

1:29:52 Um so it should be in a good place but that's a good

1:29:57 question and I'm happy to work with York to follow up on that.

1:30:01 Cool.

1:30:02 Thank you, Chris.

1:30:03 I was just reading about trains again.

1:30:08 I mean, so there is a there is a thing.

1:30:09 Um, there were there were a couple of there

1:30:12 were a couple of questions related to your work, Chris.

1:30:13 Um, so basically I builds uh obviously owns

1:30:17 quite a few of the the premium deluxe planes.

1:30:21 Frankly, we had a we had an issue

1:30:23 with a vendor um that produced some art that wasn't great.

1:30:26 That has since been rectified.

1:30:28 We hired an eyeballs to do the art and working title basically

1:30:32 the to own the plans and all those plans are currently submitted for SU4.

1:30:37 So this is when I say there's a long long list of planes that is coming to SU4.

1:30:42 I think it's it's literally like 70.

1:30:46 Um I've been asked to write the change list somewhere like I'm kind

1:30:48 of dreading it because it's going to be this long long thing.

1:30:51 But yeah, I think there's there's massive

1:30:53 improvements across pretty much every single plan.

1:30:56 Yeah, there are I would dare say there are over 500

1:31:02 lines on the change list for you every one of our aircraft.

1:31:07 Just eight.

1:31:09 I mean I would just give give props

1:31:11 to to INI belts because they worked with us uh really

1:31:14 since May or June on the art on all

1:31:17 those aircraft and they are in my view night and day.

1:31:20 We were well aware of the issues.

1:31:22 Your was well aware of the issues.

1:31:24 Nobody was happy with it.

1:31:25 Um, but I would say they're in much much better shape now.

1:31:31 There may be a few issues, but there's less than there are less than five

1:31:36 open art related tickets on all of our planes now.

1:31:38 And I know the 747s like the Dream Lifter and Super Tanker were big concerns.

1:31:43 Um, we're in pretty good shape.

1:31:45 I mean, when you look at the fleet, we're in pretty good shape.

1:31:48 And somebody just popped a question about the PC24 and SAP 340.

1:31:52 They're both from Caronado,

1:31:54 but Work and Title also have their hands in this with some

1:31:57 of the avionics and that is also looking pretty good.

1:32:00 So, we have the the PC24 is in test and the 340 is coming this week.

1:32:05 This is one of the last planes coming in for SU4.

1:32:09 So, there's really just a few planes like the Volicopter has some issues.

1:32:13 Uh we know about one of the the avi one

1:32:16 of the aviator planes the door 31 has some issues because

1:32:19 of the very tacked tilt tilt tilt engine which doesn't really

1:32:24 come over quite right but by and large it should be good.

1:32:27 Yeah.

1:32:27 I mean two cents on the aviator planes.

1:32:30 So we just switched our team over to that on Monday

1:32:34 when we submitted the last of our planes for for SU4.

1:32:38 Um and I think two of them we've already identified big issues and fixed.

1:32:42 So, we're making good progress on those and I

1:32:44 think a handful of those will be improved soon.

1:32:46 Yeah.

1:32:46 So, the C7 already came in.

1:32:48 There's a V114 on that one.

1:32:50 And I know that um they're working on an update.

1:32:54 There's I want to say six, seven bucks left or something.

1:32:57 And Windows 747 Noise open with some update 4.

1:33:01 That's right.

1:33:01 That's done.

1:33:03 Yeah.

1:33:04 Yeah.

1:33:04 That that one came in from INI builds really recently.

1:33:09 Uh, we asked them to finish that and add

1:33:11 audio for it and they turned it around so fast.

1:33:13 It was great.

1:33:14 So, yeah, it's it looks good.

1:33:16 It's cool.

1:33:19 Amazing.

1:33:19 Thank you for answering all those questions, Chris.

1:33:24 Sure.

1:33:23 Edward the pilot.

1:33:24 I read I read all the single thing that you So,

1:33:26 we're going to take this offline.

1:33:27 See if anything can be done that.

1:33:29 But I I saw it.

1:33:30 I just want to acknowledge there was quite a bit on this.

1:33:33 Well, we always go back and read the thread by the way, just let you know.

1:33:36 I think you know this.

1:33:38 So, we will we will discuss.

1:33:40 Thank you.

1:33:41 Uh, one more question here.

1:33:42 Is there an ETA for the next beta fix

1:33:44 with the satellite um bleeding that just happened in the last build?

1:33:51 Um, I think I can answer this one because I saw it.

1:33:54 I pretty sure it's in the next build.

1:33:57 Doby question.

1:33:57 Marvin is maybe still here.

1:33:59 Oh, yeah.

1:34:01 Let's pull in some peoples.

1:34:03 Doby Marvan, is that your puppy?

1:34:07 Somebody said the battery dies after 20 minutes.

1:34:10 Is she still here?

1:34:12 Guess we still have Maran.

1:34:14 That's a question.

1:34:17 I'm still here.

1:34:18 I don't have Foxy though.

1:34:22 There was a question about the Joby battery dies after 20 minutes.

1:34:25 I know you're working on it.

1:34:27 Uh yes.

1:34:27 Uh I'm I'm sorry I missed I apologize.

1:34:30 I missed the question.

1:34:31 Just that's the question.

1:34:32 That's just that's more of a comment.

1:34:33 the the battery on the Joby dies after 20 minutes.

1:34:37 Maron's on it.

1:34:38 You've given you're on it.

1:34:41 It's gonna get It's cleared.

1:34:42 I I think it's already cleared.

1:34:46 Yeah.

1:34:47 Sweet.

1:34:47 Thanks, Marwan.

1:34:49 All right, we are 10 past so we'll go ahead and wrap this up.

1:34:53 Yours, Marciel, and of course to Chris, Marwan, and Colin.

1:34:58 Thank you all for joining us today.

1:35:00 Um, we really appreciate it.

1:35:01 chat.

1:35:02 Thank you for all the questions.

1:35:04 Um, we'll be posting this, of course,

1:35:06 on YouTube very promptly and Yorg, as he said,

1:35:10 will be reading through the chat and for any questions that uh

1:35:14 we couldn't answer today or need to look some stuff up

1:35:17 on, we'll do our best to follow up in the next stream

1:35:20 or sooner um on our forums if we need to post anything out.

1:35:24 But really appreciate it.

1:35:26 Anything um Marcel or Seb you want to add?

1:35:31 Uh I've seen some some comments about some issues with AMD processors, AMD CPUs.

1:35:36 Um this is one illustration of what I said earlier.

1:35:41 I own a PC with a AMC CPU and I don't have any sound issues.

1:35:46 So it's not always like just one factors.

1:35:48 It's most most of the times is it's a combination on on many.

1:35:53 So, please uh use the forum and describe exactly the the machine

1:35:56 you own and we'll try to reproduce the the issue because yeah,

1:36:00 like I said, it's always a combination of plenty of different factors,

1:36:04 software, uh hardware, everything.

1:36:10 Yeah, thanks for Seb.

1:36:15 Yeah, no, nothing to add.

1:36:18 That's all right.

1:36:19 Thank you for joining us, Seb and York.

1:36:21 Last but not least, yeah, I just want to say thank you and I,

1:36:24 as I said, we read the comments while they're flying by.

1:36:26 We're going to read them all again.

1:36:28 Um, I hear the pain about the SU3

1:36:30 main thread issue that some people clearly have.

1:36:33 And then, uh, SIM update 4.

1:36:34 I I'm I'm very excited about it.

1:36:36 The signal we got from community via Jane is

1:36:41 some people have said this is the best performant uh,

1:36:43 version we've ever had of any of any of the Sims we've made.

1:36:46 So, I think that's great.

1:36:47 Uh, stability seems pretty good.

1:36:49 There are clearly still issues, but I mean today you saw six of us here.

1:36:53 There's hundreds and hundreds of people working

1:36:55 on this and um we are paying attention even though maybe it might might not seem

1:36:59 to to some of you that were paying attention.

1:37:01 We're paying a lot of attention what you're saying and and we

1:37:04 are on it and this is going to be great.

1:37:06 So thank you for the patience.

1:37:07 I understand it's trying but we're on a good path.

1:37:12 Cool.

1:37:12 All right.

1:37:13 Thanks everyone.

1:37:14 Take care.

1:37:14 Um, for those who would like to fly along with us this Friday,

1:37:17 we'll be doing the Albuquerque Balloon Festival.

1:37:20 First time we're all going to hop in some hot air balloons.

1:37:23 Should be a fun, silly time.

1:37:25 So, please feel free to join us this Friday, 11:00 a.m.

1:37:28 Pacific.

1:37:29 All right, we'll see you all next time.

1:37:31 Take care.

1:37:32 Goodbye.

1:37:33 Bye.

1:37:34 Bye.

1:37:34 Bye, y'all.

1:37:35 Bye.
