Patrick Replies – The Sweaters Episode

Patrick Willems Presents

0:00 Hello and welcome back to another episode of Patrick Replies,

0:03 the show on the second channel where I,

0:06 Patrick, reply to your comments and questions about the latest video.

0:10 We continue to catch up on these and now

0:13 we are finally finally covering the last video of 2024,

0:18 the I'm going to say now legendary sweaters video are

0:24 jumpers to those of you in the UK and Ireland.

0:28 As I've said before, this was a video that began as a joke

0:31 idea and then as we were approaching the end

0:33 of the year and I had a video scheduled to make

0:36 and I did not have a month to make it, I was like, what if I took that joke idea

0:42 and took it as seriously as as I possibly could

0:46 and really tried to extract some like as much meaning

0:52 and analysis from the idea of knitwear on screen as I could.

0:57 And yeah, it ended up being a video that I had

0:59 a lot of fun with and that has been very wellreceived.

1:03 It it like I mean it did like slightly below average numbers,

1:08 but people seem to have enjoyed it.

1:10 And so now let's check out some comments hold as always

1:12 by Elliot Gammons and see what people had to say about it.

1:16 Okay, so first up, Carlos Santos says,

1:20 "Now we will know whether people hate sweaters more than trains." So once again,

1:26 the train videos come up because look,

1:29 even though not a lot of people watch them,

1:31 people just can't stop talking about them.

1:32 But um actually, let's see.

1:34 Let's let's see how the sweater video did compared to the trains episodes.

1:41 The sweaters episode has 142,000 views, which if you ask me is pretty good

1:49 for a video about knitwear and the trains episodes.

1:53 Okay.

1:55 Uh, Trains part one has 180,000 views and trains 2 only has 109,000.

2:03 Uh, so so basically sweaters is like right in between the two trains episodes.

2:10 I guess people like trains and sweaters about about the same.

2:15 I don't know.

2:16 Maybe it was like the same people that watched the trains video and the sweaters

2:20 video and that's like a weird little like vin diagram of my audience.

2:24 I don't know.

2:25 It's uh so far not conclusive.

2:27 But look, you know, I I hope all the videos grow over time and like,

2:31 you know, really find the audience that's out there for them.

2:34 Okay, what's up next?

2:35 Kate Stal says, "Speaking of sweaters in stopotion,

2:39 all of Coraline's sweaters were handk knit on teeny tiny needles." First of all,

2:44 I did not know that.

2:45 Now I I need to know is there like

2:47 a behind the scenes like making a documentary just about

2:50 the sweaters where like you have knitts using like you

2:56 know like like micro like babysiz needles to to knit sweaters.

3:00 But also now I'm just I I I I feel bad for not remembering to include

3:06 Coraline's sweaters in there because obviously I've

3:08 got shots of Wallace and Grommit in there.

3:10 But yeah, in terms of like animated knitwear,

3:12 Coraline is a big one and I'm sorry I left it out.

3:16 I mean, this is the thing about the the replies

3:19 videos where every one of these is just me realizing

3:22 and being reminded of things I forgot to include that I

3:25 should have included and then me feeling bad about it.

3:28 Just like these videos are mostly me feeling like a failure.

3:32 So, I assume that's why you all tune in and watch them.

3:35 Anyway, what's up next?

3:36 Ramon says, "I'm ashamed to admit it took me almost 7

3:40 minutes to realize Patrick's sweater was changing throughout the video." Yes,

3:45 you know, we've got a running a little like running visual gag

3:49 where just every few minutes uh I'm just wearing a new sweater.

3:53 The way we shot this, I shot it in my living room,

3:55 which is like, you know, right like one room over.

3:59 I just sat there on the couch and I had a pile

4:01 of sweaters next to me and on the teleprompter like in the script

4:05 I had just periodically written in change sweater and so I wouldn't stop

4:09 rolling but so that there is footage of me like saying the script

4:14 and then I stop and I like pull off the sweater and pull

4:18 on a new one and that's how you end up with like

4:20 the part where there's like the little like dot of like lint

4:24 on my head cuz I was doing it fast and was not checking my reflection.

4:29 But yes, this is why you can't just listen to the episodes.

4:32 You really got to pay attention because, you know, they're very visual.

4:36 It's a visual medium.

4:37 Watch the videos on your TV.

4:39 Exactly.

4:40 Or or if you've got like a a movie theater, watch my videos in a movie theater.

4:44 Actually, no, don't.

4:45 I don't I don't want anyone looking at my face that big.

4:47 Like my face is too big right there.

4:49 But let's move on.

4:50 Panthor says, "I would hereby like to nominate

4:54 John Candy as the sweater king of cozy movies.

4:57 He wears an awesome sweater in almost every movie he's in.

5:01 A majority of which qualify as cozy according to Patrick's system.

5:05 Okay, now I'm curious about John Candy and his sweaters.

5:08 I also I should mention I've never seen Uncle Buck,

5:13 which seems like a movie that I should see,

5:15 but I've never seen Uncle Buck and I bet he wears a sweater in that.

5:19 But like, okay, notable John Candy movies.

5:21 I mean, I know it's basically a cameo, but you know,

5:24 he's he's got a yellow jacket on in Home Alone, so no sweater there.

5:29 In Stripes, he's wearing like military fatings.

5:33 In Summer Rental, I don't think he's wearing any sweaters.

5:37 I've never seen Summer Rental, but you know,

5:39 from the title, you can kind of infer what he's wearing.

5:43 In Cool Running, the part set in Jamaica, obviously, no sweater.

5:47 He probably has a sweater on when they like go to the Winter Olympics.

5:50 I haven't seen Cool Runnings in like 25 years.

5:55 I should probably revisit it.

5:58 Okay, this is the fun part.

5:59 I'm just going to look at John Candy's IMDb.

6:02 Oh, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

6:04 Obviously, that's that Thanksgiving.

6:06 Yes, he's got he's got sweaters on in that.

6:08 Space Balls, no sweater.

6:10 Uh JFK, remember John Candy and JFK?

6:13 That's a fun performance.

6:14 No sweaters there.

6:16 Only the lonely.

6:17 Never seen it.

6:18 Nothing but trouble.

6:19 No sweaters in that.

6:20 I feel like this comment is mostly referring to Planes,

6:23 Trains, and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, and Cool Runnings, which fair.

6:27 But I think I I'm just saying there's

6:28 a lot of John Candy movies that have no sweaters.

6:32 But but I will say if we're talking cozy,

6:34 John Candy does give off cozier vibes than almost any other actor.

6:40 He was one of the best.

6:41 Okay, so Eric Jo says, "I'm thinking you should give that Batman Beyond

6:47 idea a chance." And 63 people liked that comment.

6:51 Maybe I should What was the What was the the the the line about it was like

6:55 something about like me making a video about

6:58 like my my pitch for a Batman Beyond movie.

7:01 Was that it?

7:02 I don't tend to do videos where I just like pitch a movie.

7:07 That's not really what we do on this channel.

7:09 Do I have a pitch for a Batman Beyond movie?

7:11 Yes, I do.

7:11 In terms of like, you know,

7:14 in terms of just just really like IP movies, Batman Beyond is my dream one.

7:20 It's not even my favorite cartoon.

7:22 Like, it's it's not as good as Batman the animated series,

7:25 but like there's so many Batman movies and like,

7:29 you know, so if you make another one,

7:30 you've got to like compete with all of those.

7:32 But Batman Beyond is enough of its own thing where it's still Batman,

7:36 but then there's all these new fun elements.

7:38 And that would be like my my dream movie.

7:40 No, not like ultimate dream film making project.

7:43 Just like, you know, if you got to make a franchise movie,

7:46 that's the one I'd like to do.

7:47 To to to be clear, my idea is not so fleshed

7:50 out that I'd think it could like sustain a halfhour video.

7:52 It's more like like a 5minute pitch.

7:55 I don't know.

7:56 Do we make it a Patreon goal?

7:57 Well, not that we're ever going to hit a Patreon goal again.

8:01 But yeah, I will say I I do enjoy it when I just kind

8:03 of like casually drop a video idea like in the middle of another video,

8:09 like the part in the flying video where, you know, where I'm like,

8:12 maybe I should make a video about Hook because then it's

8:14 a good way to gauge if people actually want to see it.

8:17 Okay, next up as defaz just a bunch of whatever.

8:21 Is John Carpenters the Thing cozy?

8:24 Keith David rocks a banger sweater.

8:26 Interesting.

8:27 I mean, I guess you could make a case

8:28 for this in the same way that you could say the hateful

8:30 eight is cozy where it's like okay really harsh cold exterior

8:34 like like outside then people like staying inside to keep warm

8:39 wearing sweaters wear wearing like like like wool clothing there's fire

8:45 not that the fire in the thing is very comforting I

8:49 mean the tagline for the thing is man is the warmest

8:54 place to hide which from from the aliens perspective sounds cozy,

9:01 you know, hiding inside people.

9:05 So So yeah, you know,

9:07 you you you could make a case that The Thing is a cozy movie,

9:10 even if at the end they're outside where it's not warm, where it's cold.

9:17 I don't know.

9:18 Look, I personally am not sure I would put

9:20 the Thing like like in the cozy Kino cannon,

9:24 but I can understand if other people would.

9:26 Like I I I can see the case for The Thing.

9:29 All right.

9:29 Deis X says, "As a Brit, I'm watching this and thinking they're wearing jumpers.

9:35 This is jumpers in films.

9:37 Although anything with a zip is not a jumper.

9:40 Them's the rules." Excellent video,

9:42 especially the way you talk about what cozy cinema is.

9:45 Thank you.

9:46 And yes, you know, I do realize that titling this video about

9:49 sweaters might confuse people across the pond who are like, "Those are jumpers.

9:55 Those are not sweaters." But look,

9:57 if I might alienate some of my viewers right now,

10:00 I've never really gotten the term jumper.

10:03 Like, you know, I guess sweater, you know,

10:06 might seem weird, especially like cuz sweater is close to sweatshirt.

10:10 And sweatshirts, you know,

10:11 originally were like exercise clothing that you would sweat in.

10:15 And sweaters, like theoretically, you don't want to be sweating too much.

10:20 But like, why why jumper?

10:22 What's the origin of jumper?

10:23 I don't know.

10:24 I'm just like sweater just feels right to me.

10:28 So, I'm going to keep saying that.

10:30 But apologies to you Brits and Irish people and all that for any confusion.

10:36 But bringing up the zip.

10:38 Yeah.

10:38 Those of you who who call them jumpers,

10:41 what do you call like a quarter zip if it's not a jumper?

10:45 Is it is is there a is there a term for that article of clothing?

10:49 I don't know.

10:50 Let me know.

10:50 Violet Knight says, "I don't personally like

10:53 sweaters because of all the itchy materials.

10:56 Thanks, Autism.

10:57 And I get warm really easily, but I loved this video.

11:01 Honestly, what I love most about your channel

11:03 is how you genuinely just make videos

11:05 about things you like and make them exactly the way you want to make them.

11:08 Happy New Year, Patrick.

11:10 Yes, that is generally correct.

11:12 I don't know if it's the best like strategy

11:14 for channel growth and like reaching a wider audience,

11:18 but I do tend to just make videos about the things that I'm

11:21 interested in and I make them in a way that I enjoy.

11:26 I will say I I I understand if you

11:28 don't like overheating and you don't like itchy materials,

11:32 I do believe that there there is a sweater for you.

11:34 You know, made out of softer materials.

11:37 They're not there.

11:37 You know, different types of wool are are more or less itchy than others.

11:42 And also now, now I am curious, you know, when it's really cold,

11:46 what if you don't wear a sweater, what do you wear?

11:48 Because you got to stay warm.

11:50 And you know, in my opinion, nothing beats a good sweater.

11:53 But to each their own, I'm not going to tell anyone what to wear.

11:56 JMJ Getty says, "My personal favorite sweater worn in a film

12:02 is the red cardigan that Michael Corleó wears in The Godfather Kota,

12:06 The Death of Michael Corleó." When he says, "Just when I thought I was out,

12:09 they pulled me back in." That's a great one.

12:12 Yeah, that that red cardigan.

12:14 I mean, partly I think because, you know,

12:16 he's wearing it while delivering an iconic line.

12:19 We've seen that clip a lot, but that's a really good one.

12:21 Also like Michael Corleone usually dressed in like

12:25 black or gray and it's fun to see him, you know, in in like red, you know?

12:32 It's good.

12:33 It's good.

12:33 And also like shot by Gordon Willis with those like,

12:36 you know, like like that that amber cinematography.

12:40 It looks great.

12:41 It looks great.

12:42 Adam A.

12:43 Nelson says, "My wife and I would call it Oh god.

12:48 Higga Higga cinema." I'm I'm going to look this up

12:51 to see how you pronounce it because I don't

12:54 want everyone to make fun of me cuz I'm

12:56 a who can't pronounce words from languages he doesn't speak.

13:01 Huga.

13:03 Google is telling me Huga.

13:05 Now I'm going to watch a YouTube video.

13:06 I'm sitting through an ad right now.

13:08 Okay.

13:08 Wait.

13:10 We are looking at how to pronounce in English

13:13 or American this word spelled H Y E.

13:18 How do you go about pronouncing it?

13:20 Pretty straightforward.

13:21 Huga.

13:24 Huga.

13:23 Okay, this this is frustrating now because I have now found

13:27 on the internet differing opinions where

13:30 apparently in Denmark they they say huga.

13:33 In other places, huga.

13:35 Anyway, huga.

13:36 Huga.

13:37 So, we're going to say my wife and I call it huga/huga cinema.

13:41 And our peak Huga Huga movie might be While You Were Sleeping.

13:46 Haven't tallied the score, but I suspect it's pretty high.

13:49 And Sandra Bulock pulls a Christmas gift

13:51 for her landlord out of her oversized sweater sleeve.

13:55 Also, I think the presence of soft pets should be part of the scoring system.

13:59 Okay, first of all, while you were sleeping,

14:02 I must admit I have never seen the entire movie.

14:06 Uh, I know I know a John Turtletop film and I have not seen it.

14:12 Uh, John Turtletop, director of Cool Runnings.

14:14 But yes, I I know I need to see while you were sleeping.

14:17 I did include a clip from it in the video, so it it's in there.

14:21 And yes, Sandra Bulock wears amazing sweaters with giant sleeves.

14:26 Uh and so yes, it definitely it's in the cannon.

14:29 But as as far as soft pets,

14:31 I had not considered that, but that's a really good point.

14:34 And yeah, soft pets maybe should just be like one bonus point,

14:38 but I think you're right.

14:39 assuming the pet doesn't die.

14:41 It has to be like a likable soft pet that lives for the entire movie.

14:46 But yeah, that's a really good point.

14:47 Merry Old Soul says,

14:48 "Fellowship of the Ring has always been a cozy movie for me.

14:52 I watched it in theaters when it came out right before the holidays.

14:55 Everybody was wearing sweaters.

14:57 There was a lady next to me who had this perfume that smelled like honey.

15:00 And Gandalf's coat, robe, and hat have this fuzzy,

15:03 comfy texture you want in your handmade

15:06 woolwear." That that is a really good point.

15:09 I I feel like the Lord of the Rings movies in general, you know,

15:13 like we think of them as cozy movies,

15:15 even though the movies are usually e like, you know, like Mordor, not cozy.

15:20 The Shire cozy even though it's like more like summery weather there.

15:25 But yeah, and people aren't wearing sweaters in the movie.

15:27 I mean, they're like epic fantasy movies with giant battle scenes.

15:30 But I think a really big part of it is just that because each of the movies

15:34 came out at like a week before Christmas

15:37 every year was like like December, you know,

15:40 17th or so each one would come out and then real ones remember

15:44 that the following year the extended edition four dis DVD set would come out

15:49 and and so then like my sister and I would spend all of Christmas

15:52 break just like watching the bonus features uh on on all the discs,

15:57 listen to the commentaries, all of that.

15:58 And so I think just by nature of the release,

16:02 we think of them as cozy because they're they kind

16:05 of became holiday movies and then you know like I

16:08 know several people who will do like Lord of the Rings

16:10 marathons on like New Year's Day and stuff like that.

16:14 So they're just movies that people tend to watch at that time of year.

16:20 Um and then they also like you know the Shire is

16:23 so nice and then the ending of of Return of the King,

16:26 you feel really good and so yeah.

16:28 Yeah.

16:28 So, it is this funny thing where like despite being, you know,

16:32 like like epic fantasy movies about like like people having like

16:37 wars with orcs and stuff like that, they still do feel cozy,

16:43 which really does kind of add a new element

16:44 to the idea of cozy cinema, which is like,

16:48 you know, can movies be cozy just based on like

16:51 when they were released and when we originally watched them?

16:55 Look, this is not a science.

16:57 It's weird and loose and complicated and and I

17:00 look forward to discussing this for years to come.

17:04 Matthew Sawen Sawen Matthew Sawen says,

17:10 "Shout out to Brian Cox's cardigans in Succession

17:13 signal heritage and practicality while being wealthy." Yes.

17:18 I mean, obviously Succession like since it, you know,

17:21 it's about the these like ultra rich people,

17:24 just a lot of great fits like throughout that that entire show.

17:28 But yeah, Brian Cox's cardigans really excellent for the whole series.

17:31 And actually, speaking of that, let's just go

17:34 extra cozy here and and put on a cardigan,

17:39 I should say, you know, as as as I put this on now.

17:43 Okay.

17:43 Wow.

17:43 I'm going to I'm going to overheat.

17:45 I'm I'm wearing I'm putting on a cardigan over a sweater.

17:49 Okay, there we go.

17:50 I should say both this cardigan and this sweater are from Alpa Knitwear,

17:56 who was the first company to reach out

17:58 to me after I released the sweater video to say, "Hey, we saw the video.

18:03 Can we send you sweaters?" They are They're based in Finland.

18:05 They make 100% alpaca wool knitwear.

18:09 Uh it is so nice.

18:11 Like the the folks there are lovely.

18:13 The stuff they make is is amazing.

18:15 I love it so much.

18:16 And so, yeah.

18:17 So, that's the thing.

18:18 As proud as I am of the sweaters video,

18:20 the real the real important thing about it is that it got me these.

18:26 Autocorrect says, "Not really a movie, but George Harrison's pink and orange

18:30 sweaters from Get Back are amazing." Correct.

18:34 Correct.

18:35 George was George is wearing some good stuff.

18:38 Okay.

18:38 Sam Arinau says, "For people who live in Mediterranean climates,

18:43 which is dry summer, wet winter,

18:45 marino wool v-necks are actually incredibly useful." I understand your point,

18:51 but also, why V-necks?

18:55 That's that's really the thing.

18:57 I'm just like, I I personally do not love

19:01 a V-neck of any I don't like V-neck T-shirts.

19:04 I don't like V-neck sweaters.

19:06 Like, why why a V-neck?

19:08 Why not just like a regular crew neck?

19:11 You know, that that is my question for you.

19:13 Jay Thompson says, "I can't stand wearing turtlenecks.

19:17 Nothing against the look.

19:18 I just don't like the feel of something around my neck.

19:21 I'm more of a band hoodie guy." I mean, really,

19:24 it sounds like you don't like sweaters at all then.

19:26 But look, turtlenecks not for everyone.

19:28 I am obviously a big fan.

19:31 I I just like like in clothing.

19:33 I I like a high collar.

19:35 Like personally, I just think I look better with either like

19:39 a collared shirt or some kind of higher neck on on the clothing.

19:43 That's my own take on how I perceive myself.

19:46 So, yeah, I'm a big turtleneck fan.

19:48 Obviously, they are not for everyone like like

19:51 lots of people don't own a single turtleneck.

19:53 I feel like like they're they're they're kind of coming back a bit,

19:56 but you know, they're not super popular.

19:59 But, I will say, you say you're more of a band hoodie guy.

20:03 I have never worn a band hoodie and there's a decent chance

20:08 that I will go the rest of my life without ever wearing one.

20:12 Yeah, not not really my thing.

20:14 Nothing against them, just not really my thing.

20:17 Okay, Andrew P.

20:18 Roberts says, "Good thing I'm already wearing a sweater.

20:22 Hell yeah.

20:23 The first two Harry Potter films are prime cozy films,

20:26 especially with the ending of Chamber of Secrets.

20:29 I I do not remember the end of Chamber of Secrets.

20:33 Uh I have not seen it in full in many years.

20:37 Are they wearing sweaters at the end?

20:39 I really I can't remember.

20:41 But yeah, but like when I think of those first two movies,

20:43 the the Chris Columbus ones, I think of the kids wearing wool sweaters.

20:47 And also, it's a very warm color palette,

20:49 you know, like Roger Pratt shot the second one.

20:52 A nice kind of like like golden glow on everything.

20:56 But before, you know,

20:56 like like Quiron came in with with the third and it gets a lot bluer,

21:01 a lot colder and harsher and darker.

21:03 I mean, better also, but like yeah, the first two cozy movies.

21:07 Deborah Chambers says, "Yo,

21:10 I love sweaters." That's that's the best comment so far.

21:15 I I have no notes.

21:16 I have nothing else to say other than Deborah, I'm with you.

21:19 Also, unsurprisingly, I am starting to get very warm,

21:25 wearing two wool things on top of each other.

21:29 Okay, up next, Natalie Shark.

21:31 I really hope that that is her real name.

21:35 Shark as that.

21:36 That's great.

21:36 Natalie Shark says, "I can't believe you got through

21:39 an entire video essay about cozy sweaters without mentioning Twin Peaks.

21:44 Also, weirdly, I think Twin Peaks Firewalk with me fits your rubric.

21:49 Interesting.

21:50 Interesting.

21:50 I So, so first of all, lots of good sweaters in Twin Peaks.

21:54 While researching the video, I'm going to look this up right now.

21:57 I did come across an article.

22:00 It's on the cut.

22:01 The article came out 11 years ago that is a ranking

22:05 of all 118 sweaters seen on Twin Peaks written by Maggie Lang.

22:12 Interesting.

22:13 Number one is Audrey Horn's spooky sexy forest cardigan.

22:18 So, yes, there are a lot of good sweaters on Twin Peaks.

22:21 I just made the decision to not include TV because I didn't

22:25 want to over complicate the video and make it like like stupidly long.

22:29 But your idea that that Firewalk with me fits the rubric.

22:33 I I assume for cozy cinema, that is a very dark,

22:37 sad movie that I would not really think of as cozy.

22:41 But now you've got me wondering if I need to rewatch it with this in mind.

22:46 I probably should.

22:47 Yeah.

22:47 Halddair says, "Allow me to raise an eyebrow

22:51 at the notion that the video with the most

22:53 explicit this is my side of the political

22:56 aisle is also the coziest of the year." Um,

23:00 so so are you questioning that this video can be cozy while, you know,

23:06 having like like a hard line about politics in the video

23:10 that that that the two the two cannot mix?

23:14 that like it can't be cozy if I'm if I'm bringing up political opinions.

23:19 Well, then if that's what you're saying,

23:21 then I believe you didn't really pay attention to my definition

23:25 of what cozy means because as I define it,

23:29 cozy does does require like taking shelter or like

23:33 seeking comfort from a like harsh like unpleasant cold outside.

23:40 And so if the political landscape is the harsh cold outside,

23:47 this video is like stepping away from that, taking

23:50 a break from that to just focus on like nice,

23:54 less consequential things that make us feel good.

23:58 So yes, it is the coziest video of the year objectively.

24:03 Case closed.

24:05 Moving on.

24:06 Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy's, the late great Dave Thomas watches my videos,

24:11 says Eddie the Eagle is my cozy movie.

24:14 Hits all the marks.

24:15 I actually just saw Eddie the Eagle for the first time this year,

24:19 a few months ago, and I'm with you.

24:21 Cozy movie, good movie.

24:23 So, here we have a few comments that object

24:27 or disagree with me bringing up politics at the beginning.

24:31 One person says, "Why would you assume that the majority

24:34 of your audience for a film analysis channel would be liberal Democrat?

24:37 Makes no sense.

24:38 Many of us see a bright future ahead

24:40 and are having a great holiday." This person says,

24:43 "Me, who is definitely enjoying the results

24:45 of the election and the new video content." Yay.

24:47 This person says, "What can you do?

24:49 Be mentally mature enough to cope with others

24:51 voting differently from you." A nice video.

24:54 Too bad you had to ruin it with your paranoid political rants.

24:57 Okay.

24:58 So, to to address this, why would I assume

25:00 that the majority of my audience is like has like left-leaning politics?

25:05 Well, over the years, I've just like seen plenty of evidence

25:08 that this channel's audience does tend to, you know,

25:11 be pretty progressive, very open-minded, you know, politically left-leaning.

25:16 So, yeah, this is not just like a wild assumption.

25:18 This is something that I've I have like observed over time.

25:22 Um, but also, look, here's the thing.

25:24 Anyone, regardless of where you stand politically,

25:28 is welcome to watch these videos.

25:30 I can't stop you from from watching things.

25:32 But I will just say if now 5 months into 2025,

25:37 you are looking at the state of things,

25:39 the what the current administration has been

25:41 doing and you are feeling good about

25:43 that, you think their policies and actions are

25:46 a positive thing and you're down with it,

25:49 then I think that you are either very misguided

25:53 and I hope that at some point you maybe reconsider

25:58 and rethink your take on things or or the other

26:03 possibility is that you are just a bad person.

26:07 I think those are the two most likely scenarios.

26:11 And yeah, again, you can keep watching,

26:13 but just know that um uh if we were to ever like meet in person,

26:17 we would not be friends.

26:19 I probably would not like you.

26:22 Apparently, I'm ruining things with my paranoid political rants.

26:27 Oops.

26:28 Anyway, those people suck.

26:30 Okay, and the last YouTube comment comes from Victor Schroeder,

26:34 who says, "I really wish you talked about My Dinner with Andre.

26:38 It's an almost 2-hour movie of just two people talking,

26:41 and my biggest takeaway was, I want that goddamn sweater.

26:45 Great video, great subject." I must confess,

26:49 I've never seen My Dinner with Andre.

26:51 I still haven't done it despite,

26:53 you know, it starring my nemesis, Wallace Shawn.

26:55 No, I It's I I can't even remember how this came up.

26:58 At some point, Dave and I just agreed like

27:01 we have to watch My Dinner with Andre together.

27:03 And we're like, neither of us is allowed to watch it on our own.

27:06 We have to do it together.

27:08 But, uh, Dave and I don't get together and watch movies that often.

27:11 And so, yeah, we just we got to find a time.

27:14 I got to see that movie.

27:15 I'll do I'll do it.

27:16 I promise.

27:16 All right.

27:17 And now that we are done with the YouTube comments,

27:20 we will jump over to the questions

27:22 from the Ask Patrick channel on our Discord server.

27:25 As I say in every single episode, we have a Discord server which is

27:29 available exclusively to members of our Patreon.

27:32 Uh, and so if you join the Patreon, first of all,

27:34 it's a great way to like directly support this channel,

27:36 help us pay the people who who work on it.

27:38 You get your name in the credits of the videos

27:40 and also you get access to our Discord server where,

27:43 you know, we can chat about movies.

27:46 I I I jump in every so often, chat about stuff.

27:49 And there's an Ask Patrick channel where if

27:51 you submit questions pertaining to the latest video,

27:54 I will answer them in the Patrick replies videos,

27:57 but also you can ask questions about like any random thing.

28:00 And if they're not about the latest video,

28:01 then I will just answer them in Discord.

28:03 So that is all.

28:04 Let's get to the questions from One Chad Beyond.

28:09 They say, "Hello, Patrick and Emma.

28:11 I greatly appreciated your sweater video.

28:13 I'm from Florida, so obviously I had no idea what the you were talking about.

28:19 I learned so much.

28:20 Turns out I just had long sleeve shirts the whole time.

28:24 Who knew?

28:25 How do you feel about the cardigan, the sweater's infamous cousin?

28:30 How comparable is it to sweaters and their legacy?

28:33 Any cinematic representation you can think of?

28:36 I'll be awaiting your reply with my dad.

28:38 Casual cardigan anytime the temp drops below 60°.

28:42 So, first of all, you mentioned that you live in Florida.

28:44 I don't think I'll ever live in Florida.

28:46 Uh, and one of the one of the many reasons is just that, you know,

28:50 it's never sweater weather.

28:52 I mean, really, that's that's another reason why

28:54 like I don't want to ever live in LA.

28:56 I love my sweaters.

28:57 I I need proper winters.

29:00 But cardigans, well, I'm wearing one right now and it's great.

29:05 I will say in regards to cardigans,

29:07 I wasn't really a cardigan person until recent years.

29:13 Uh I just didn't have any I don't know, maybe it was because of their like,

29:17 you know, they have like kind of like old man connotations and I don't know,

29:21 maybe I just had to embrace being an old man,

29:24 being like in my mid30s and being like, well, I'm I'm an old man now.

29:28 It's time to get cardigans.

29:30 But yeah, it took me a while to appreciate them, but now I definitely do.

29:33 I will say I I'm picky about cardigans.

29:37 I mean, I think I've displayed in the video

29:38 that I'm picky about sweaters in general, but yeah, like with cardigans,

29:43 I'm not I'm not really into like very like thin, smaller cardigans.

29:49 I like a chunkier shaw collar cardigan.

29:53 Yeah, like give me give me give me the big

29:56 shawl collar that I can like wrap around myself.

29:59 That's that's my take on cardigans.

30:01 So, yeah, they're not my favorite kind of sweater,

30:03 but but uh in recent years, I I have warmed up to them.

30:10 Okay, next up, Rabbi Perfected says,

30:12 "In the spirit of the sweater video being low stakes,

30:16 does Jason Bourne get a pass on the quarterzip

30:19 because he's a young guy who kicks ass, or is it because he always wears it

30:24 zipped?" It's because he always wears it zipped.

30:26 Yeah.

30:27 Also, it's got a cool texture as well, but like having it zipped up.

30:31 Yeah.

30:31 Darpa says, "Hi, Patrick.

30:33 I think this might technically be a question for evil Patrick,

30:37 but what are your thoughts on the cashmere

30:40 sweater Jake Gyllenhaal was wearing in ambulance?

30:43 And what are your thoughts on cashmere sweaters in general,

30:46 both in real life and in movies?" Kashmir is a very interesting

30:49 topic because like Kashmir has this like association with being like the most

30:55 luxurious like the nicest kind of sweater you can get but also like

31:00 you can get like pretty cheap

31:02 cashmere sweaters that like aren't especially great.

31:06 It's like I like Unilo.

31:08 I I think Unilo is like a like really

31:12 solid especially when it comes to like certain basics.

31:14 Like I I will say maybe maybe this is

31:16 more information than most of you uh are looking for.

31:19 I get a lot of my underwear from Unilo.

31:22 Unilo for like heavyweight solid color t-shirts.

31:26 I I tend to get those from Unilo.

31:28 But Unilo swe like Unilo will have cashmere sweaters.

31:32 They're like okay.

31:33 They're fine, but they'll start like pilling like like pretty quickly.

31:37 Like you can really go down a rabbit hole on like researching cashmere

31:42 like like where it comes from the different

31:44 like different variations of Kashmir sweaters,

31:46 but basically a sweater just being cashmere doesn't mean it's a good sweater.

31:52 And so yeah, there are cheap cashmere

31:54 sweaters that are nothing to write home about.

31:57 And I would just generally avoid those, but like

32:00 nice cashmere sweaters are still like really excellent.

32:05 I know I really dissed Marino wool sweaters a lot in the video.

32:10 And look, there are there are good marino wool sweaters,

32:14 but there's just like there's a lot of like very flimsy,

32:18 ugly, like cheap ones that I think suck.

32:21 So, so basically, here's an exciting take.

32:23 Cashmere can be good or less good.

32:27 And, you know, it really just comes down to like

32:29 where you're getting it from and like where it was made.

32:32 And the one that Jake Gyllenhaal wears in in in Ambulance,

32:37 I think is perfect for that character.

32:40 This guy who really wants to like project an image of like wealth and success.

32:46 So yeah, this is a guy who like basically bought the sweater because

32:50 it was probably $500 and he saw the word cashmere and he's like, "Oh,

32:55 well that's like that's the best you can get." Uh I

32:57 think it's like really good costumeuming that that line where he shouts,

33:00 "This is cashmere." really great.

33:03 As for the sweater itself, it's fine.

33:06 It's fine.

33:07 Fidwick McGurgis, incredible name, says, "Hi, Patrick.

33:11 Loved your cozy sweaters of cinema video.

33:14 If going to Can," which is this is funny because I'm shooting

33:18 this like less than a week after I got back from Can.

33:21 If going to Can gave you an itch to attend more film festivals,

33:25 Sundance in the ski town of Park City, Utah,

33:28 is the perfect film festival to rock some sweet sweaters.

33:32 Just want to put that out there.

33:33 I mean, I really can't argue with that.

33:35 I've never been to Sundance.

33:37 I will say a lot of my critic friends who go to Sundance don't like it.

33:42 They're like, "Park City sucks.

33:43 The elevation is too high.

33:45 There's less oxygen.

33:46 You're walking through the snow.

33:48 There aren't a lot of good restaurants." So, they don't really like Sundance.

33:52 But despite hearing this, I'm still like, "Yeah, but you know,

33:55 you're watching movies in a place

33:57 where you're wearing sweaters and there's snow.

33:59 That just sounds good to me." So, I should probably just go at some point.

34:04 Uh, I don't really have plans to attend more film festivals.

34:08 Like, it's not like videos about film festivals

34:10 tend to like like get a lot of views.

34:13 The audience is not clamoring for it.

34:15 But yeah, but also Sundance is leaving Park City in like a year or two,

34:21 something like that.

34:22 So, I mean, it'll probably still be in some place with snow.

34:26 So, yeah.

34:26 I don't know.

34:28 At some point, I would like to go.

34:29 It sounds fun.

34:30 Okay.

34:31 Nick Smith says, "Patrick, as a proud quarterzip wearer,

34:36 I feel attacked." I will say the amount of texts

34:41 I got from friends who who were like, "Wow,

34:44 I watched this video while wearing a quarterzip sweater and now

34:50 now you're suddenly like trashing my clothing or telling me

34:53 that like I I was like harsher in this video

34:56 than I ever have been about movies in in other videos,

35:01 which didn't occur to me when I was making it,

35:03 but I recognize is accurate and I I am sorry.

35:08 I didn't mean to like make anyone feel bad about the clothing they're wearing.

35:13 I personally though, not not a a big fan of quarter zips.

35:18 I I do believe that they can give off Republican vibes,

35:22 which which I guess to to some people in the comments is a good thing,

35:27 but I am sorry if anyone felt attacked.

35:29 And Nick Smith says, "I'm afraid the only thing that will quell

35:33 my rage is a two-hour video titled Todd Snyder,

35:37 our HMBBO sweater." That is good.

35:41 That is really good.

35:42 I will say, look, if Todd Snyder, the company,

35:44 would like to like sponsor a video and send me stuff,

35:48 I'll make a video about it.

35:49 I'm currently wearing Todd Snider pants.

35:52 I really like their clothes.

35:53 They've got really good stuff.

35:55 It makes up a decent chunk of my wardrobe.

35:56 They make really nice clothing.

35:58 Um, there's one sweater I have from them that that like

36:02 I don't think I've told the story like on mic before.

36:05 It's not a very exciting story.

36:07 There was this one sweater they had.

36:08 It was this like it was this like recycled cashmere navy turtleneck sweater

36:14 and I saw it on the site and was like this is my perfect sweater.

36:17 And also it was expensive.

36:18 it was out of my price range and so I just

36:21 kept a tab open for months like watching it gradually go

36:27 on sale but even on sale it was still too much

36:30 and then finally on the 4th of July like 2 years ago there

36:34 was like a like a 70% off sale and it final

36:37 like I realized it was never going to be cheaper than

36:41 that this was this was it and so finally I pulled

36:44 the trigger on it still wasn't cheap but it began at like $700.

36:49 And so I got it was like like like I I

36:52 followed it until it went down as far as it could go.

36:54 Yeah, it's one of my favorite sweaters.

36:56 I have worn it in videos before.

36:58 It's it's a it's a really good one.

37:00 And so yeah.

37:01 Anyway, Todd Snider, they make a lot more than sweaters,

37:04 but I love their stuff and I would love it.

37:06 If anyone watching this works for Todd Snider, hit me up.

37:10 Would love to collab.

37:12 Okay.

37:13 And and that's it.

37:14 That is the last question.

37:17 And we have uh no physical mail to open this time because

37:20 I'm shooting this like like a couple days after the last one.

37:25 So uh I haven't even checked the PO box.

37:27 Probably nothing came in yesterday.

37:28 But anyway, that was a fun one.

37:30 Even with like the like angry right-wing people, that was a fun one.

37:34 I just Here's the thing.

37:36 Talking about sweaters is always fun.

37:38 I wish I I I mean I'm not saying

37:39 I I would rather talk about sweaters than movies.

37:42 I think I have more to say about movies than sweaters,

37:44 but I love talking about sweaters.

37:46 They're great.

37:47 Thank you everyone who who watched

37:49 the sweaters episode and left very nice comments.

37:52 Uh no thank you to the people who left not nice comments.

37:55 Again, I am sorry if I insulted anyone's wardrobes.

37:58 I did not I did not intend to offend anybody.

38:01 I I just have some strong opinions about clothing.

38:04 But yeah, maybe I was a little bit too harsh and I I recognize that.

38:07 So anyway, that is all for now.

38:09 And this means next time,

38:11 next time we can finally start covering videos that came out in 2025.

38:18 And one day, one day we'll be caught up.

38:21 Okay, that's all.

38:22 Bye.
