Bloomberg Podcasts
0:02 Bloomberg Audio Studios podcasts radio news.
0:10 This is the closing bell on the stock movers report.
0:13 The companies making moves at the close of US trading with Carol Masser,
0:18 Tim Stenc, Roma Bostic, and Katie Grifeld.
0:22 All right, back to the S&P 500 we go.
0:24 Most names actually lower in the index, Katie.
0:27 About 288 losing ground on this Monday.
0:29 You had 215 higher in the Monday session and none unchanged.
0:34 Yeah.
0:34 And an interesting split when you take a look
0:36 at the sector level as measured by the circle.
0:38 You can see uh sort of a patchwork there of green and red.
0:42 Energy on a percentage basis was your biggest gainer.
0:44 Higher by about 2.6%.
0:47 Materials, industrials, tech also rising by 1% or more.
0:51 In terms of what didn't work on this Monday,
0:54 communication services down by about 2.3%.
0:57 You also had consumer staples that sector
1:00 off by about 8/10en of a percent, Carol.
1:02 All right, so let me go to some of the gainers.
1:04 Um, man, you really had some mega
1:07 outperformance once again in those semiconductor names.
1:10 In fact, you had the socks, you had Intel,
1:11 you had Micron, you had Qualcomm, all at record closes today.
1:15 Just let's go through some of the numbers.
1:16 8 and a half% higher roughly on Qualcomm.
1:19 6 and a half% higher when it comes to Micron.
1:23 You had Intel also higher up about 3.6%.
1:26 And if you look at the Philadelphia semiconductor index up about 2.6%.
1:31 So you saw this group again extending
1:33 the gains that we've seen already this year.
1:35 That's after we saw record highs in a lot of the names on Friday.
1:38 The latest latest surge boosted by continued
1:41 investor enthusiasm over AI and infrastructure buildouts.
1:45 Benzinga talking about Qualcomm saying uh or citing
1:49 the CEO there saying the smartphone era may be nearing
1:52 its end as major AI companies quietly work
1:55 on next generation wearable devices powered by advanced AI agents.
1:59 So you have that going on.
2:01 As for Intel yet, Baron's reporting that the stock is
2:03 up on reported second huge chip customer and that Intel's
2:07 in talks with South Korean chip maker SKH Heinix about providing
2:10 chip packaging technology to integrate high bandwidth memory and logic chips.
2:15 That's according to that report from or a report from ZD uh ZDNet Korea.
2:20 And then remember it was just last week that Apple and Intel seemed to be
2:23 reaching an agreement an early chipmaking agreement
2:25 that came out from the Wall Street Journal.
2:27 But our own team earlier last week had given a heads up on that happening.
2:30 Just so much going on when it comes to the semiconductor.
2:34 And just real quickly, something uh a little bit different.
2:37 Ticker Mndy Monday.com Limited rallying nearly 23% intraday.
2:43 Shares rising after the more than uh $3.8 billion market cap software
2:47 company raised its fullear forecast
2:49 for both revenue and adjusted operating profits.
2:51 Stock though down about 50% year-to date.
2:54 Nearly 15% of the float is short.
2:56 stock is down more than 80% since November of 2021.
2:59 So, the longer story, not so great.
3:01 You can just see that chart right there.
3:02 But nonetheless, investors finding some interest in it on this Monday.
3:07 All right.
3:07 Well, on this Monday, I'm finding some interest in some stocks that moved lower.
3:10 I want to start with one of the worst performing
3:11 stocks in the S&P 500 on a percentage basis today.
3:14 That would go to the Trade Desk, down 6.8%.
3:17 It's it's an ad tech company and it has just been getting absolutely beat up.
3:22 It's right now trading at what about $21 a share.
3:25 You go back to uh just end of 2024.
3:29 This was a $140 stock.
3:32 So it's down just about 85% since then.
3:35 Fell again today uh this after uh
3:37 the analyst over at HSBC cut his recommendation uh
3:41 from uh to reduce from hold uh this after
3:45 earnings last week that disappointed a lot of investors.
3:47 That was back on May 7th.
3:49 Also want to look at Tyson Foods on a day
3:52 when we're expecting some moves out of Washington.
3:54 Uh the company fell by 1.9%.
3:58 The Wall Street Journal report at the White
3:59 House will temporarily cut beef import tariffs.
4:02 The president said at a Monday news conference
4:04 that he's working on getting beef prices down.
4:06 Smithfield Foods also fell today.
4:09 Uh also finally, Sally Beauty Holdings,
4:11 we just spoke to Denise Palanis, the CEO of the company.
4:14 They reported earnings earlier today.
4:17 Shares fell today.
4:18 actually had its worst day intraday going back to 2023.
4:23 Uh Sally Beauty ended up falling on the day uh in addition to um
4:29 just an outlook that didn't make that you know really investors were a little
4:33 worried about they had a good they had a good earlier quarter but investors
4:36 are worried about uh what the company said when it came to the outlook.
4:40 The company also said they're they're watching lower income consumers
4:43 uh and there's more frugality when it comes to those consumers.
4:47 All right, let's go a quick check here on yields.
4:49 This seesaw that we've been seeing in recent
4:52 sessions where you're up one day, down the next.
4:54 We're up here on the day pretty significantly here,
4:57 up about five basis points, but at 4.4 on your benchmark 10-year yield.
5:01 You see the somewhat stasis that we've been in here
5:04 uh relative to the last couple of weeks here.
5:06 That's going to be sort of a big challenge going forward.
5:09 not so much for what uh bond investors
5:11 are looking for, but equity investors of course trying
5:14 to price out the next direction and how that might
5:16 actually feed into their projections for stocks going forward.
5:21 Meanwhile, we do have some earnings crossing the wire.
5:23 Hims and Hers reporting and the big headline here
5:26 is that they're cutting their fullear adjusted IBIDA forecast.
5:30 Uh when it comes to what they see,
5:32 they now see fullear adjusted IBIDA between $275 million to $350 million.
5:38 The previous range that the company had given was between 300 to $375 million.
5:44 You can see the shares are popping right now though higher by about 8% or so.
5:49 I will also point out uh when it comes to the first quarter
5:52 adjusted or when it comes to first quarter EPS that missed estimates as well.
5:57 They also downgraded where they see second quarter adjusted IBIDA there.
6:02 So we're going to read through this and get you more
6:04 details but you can see that uh shares higher after hours.
6:07 We know that uh it's been a really rocky year for him and hers health
6:11 especially when you think about the back
6:12 and forth and now partnership with Novo Nordisk.
6:16 Absolutely.
6:16 And I want to take a look at another stock here.
6:18 Do you remember the New York Times shares you go back to like late
6:20 90s early 2000s and it was this idea that shares were just on this steady
6:24 decline and then something changed big time over uh the last few years
6:29 and a lot of that had to do with its big push into games.
6:33 Yes.
6:33 you know, crossword puzzles and of course Wordle,
6:35 which of course became a sensation there, you know,
6:38 on the paper on your app or whatever you want to call it,
6:40 is now going to be an actual game show on TV.
6:44 I love it.
6:44 Can you believe this?
6:45 I love this, too.
6:46 I got to tell you, I play it like every day.
6:48 My husband sends me it in the morning.
6:49 He plays it as soon.
6:50 Um, I don't know what your word is.
6:52 I've actually been playing it on the train
6:54 and somebody like looks over my shoulder and like,
6:56 "You got to get a better first word." I'm like, "I like my first word."
7:00 What's your first word?
7:02 Adu.
7:02 A D I E U.
7:04 Oh, that's a lot of letters.
7:05 Does that count if it's like
7:06 No, you'd be amazed at what kind of counts.
7:09 I've never quite figured out how to play this game.
7:11 Remember, this was like started by just some like random dude and then
7:13 Yeah, he sold it to the New York Times after a few months.
7:17 He did it for his girlfriend.
7:18 I think he sold it to the New York Times after a few months
7:21 after it sort of went viral for the low seven digit figure.
7:26 Seven digit.
7:28 Soouch.
7:27 Yeah.
7:28 Reminds me of, you know,
7:28 kind of when when Instagram was sold to Facebook for a billion dollars.
7:32 It seemed like a lot of money
7:33 and they've turned Facebook has turned that business into such a huge business.
7:37 The New York Times has turned Wordle into a huge business.
7:40 And and just games over anyone who has a New York Times app,
7:43 you know, it's like it's just like they're proliferating.
7:45 It's like, you know, the Little Gremlin things, you know,
7:47 you feed it after midnight and all of a sudden
7:49 you wake up and there's like 20 new games.
7:50 Carol's gaming right now.
7:51 Yeah.
7:52 Look, I go through like Wordle, I do connections, I do the mini.
7:55 Like I like Connections, right?
7:56 Like the mini.
7:57 They have the They have the the the real crossword puzzle,
8:01 you know, for smart people.
8:02 They have the mini.
8:02 Now they have what do they call it?
8:03 The the midi.
8:04 The middle one now.
8:05 Yes.
8:05 They have the mini.
8:06 It's out of control.
8:07 Exactly.
8:07 When does it stop?
8:08 I don't I don't love pips, though.
8:10 I I No.
8:11 Pips.
8:13 Whoever invented pips.
8:14 It's It's not just the New York Times.
8:16 You think about LinkedIn also introducing puzzle
8:18 games uh on their website and their app.
8:20 I actually have the LinkedIn app.
8:23 Bloomberg has the pointed quiz online which is very interesting.
8:27 Taking the world by storm.
8:28 Yeah, Alpha Dots as well.
8:31 Quite Am I getting this right that the guys are
8:33 playing the games Katie and you and I are?
8:35 Um, no, that's not true.
8:36 I feel like Roma has games that he plays,
8:38 but perhaps they're different than the games that we play.
8:41 They're cerebral.
8:42 No comment.
8:43 Sounds like you got that one right, Tim.
8:45 I don't know what you're cooking on, but you know.
8:49 All right.
8:50 Apparently, we have to go.
8:51 Oh, no.
8:52 Yeah, what a shame.
8:52 Fun and games over now, Cape.
