0:00 I do.

0:37 CBS starts with And that breaking news in the city

0:42 of Arcadia where the mayor has been charged by the feds.

0:45 How they accuse her of being an illegal agent for a foreign country.

0:49 That's next.

1:14 Let's get to that breaking news.

1:15 The mayor of Arcadia is at the desk.

1:29 was arrested.

1:31 Yeah.

1:31 And it rose big questions after that man

1:33 was arrested and convicted of that crime.

1:34 It left people wondering if she was connected to all of this as well.

1:38 And now federal prosecutors say she was.

1:41 We'll show you some of the video.

1:42 Our Tom Wade tried to get her opinion on this on the arrest

1:44 of and charging of her one-time fiance at city hall.

1:47 The mayor Eileen Wang at the time refused to answer any of Tom's questions.

1:51 The mayor uh has since resigned at her position

1:54 as the Arcadia mayor as a result of all of this.

1:56 Now, the US attorney's office says that Eileen Wang was

1:59 acting as an illegal agent for the People's Republic of China,

2:03 saying that she was promoting propaganda to US

2:06 uh residents here uh through her position there.

2:08 Now, they say she was one of many people that was

2:10 communicated with and contacted by high-ranking officials of the People's

2:14 Republic of China and would post things onto a website

2:17 promoting propaganda that the Chinese government had asked her to do.

2:20 Now, she has been charged as part of a plea deal,

2:23 and it does go in concert with her uh one-time fiance that we

2:26 reported on that Tom did all that work on uh to tell you about.

2:29 Now, we know that she was in fact,

2:31 according to prosecutors, working along with him.

2:33 Now, she has taken a plea deal in this case,

2:35 and the case will go to court now and through this process.

2:38 Meanwhile, in Arcadia, she has resigned her post.

2:40 We'll show you the statement from the city of Arcadia saying,

2:43 quote, "We want to be clear.

2:44 This investigation concerns individual conduct and the charges are for conduct

2:47 that ceased after Miss Wang was sworn into office in December 2022.

2:52 Following an internal review,

2:53 we can confirm that no city

2:54 finances staff or decision-making processes were involved.

2:58 Still, the city says they understand how concerning

3:01 this is for their residents uh and they will

3:02 at the next uh city council meeting elect a new

3:05 mayor and mayor prom as part of this process.

3:08 Meanwhile, Eileen Wang uh will be in court this afternoon.

3:10 It's unclear if she has been in court already today.

3:12 We are working with federal prosecutors to figure that out

3:15 and then what her uh her of course sentencing

3:17 or her uh deal will be here if she'll be remanded

3:19 to federal custody or if she'll be allowed out on bond.

3:22 All of those things we're still working to find out.

3:23 Again, she should be in court this afternoon.

3:25 We'll work to get an update for you about

3:26 what happens and we'll bring it to you guys.

3:28 All right, Mike.

3:29 Thank you.

3:39 CBS joins us live from West Hollywood.

3:42 What are business owners saying about

3:57 Hey,

3:59 yeah, if you don't mind.

4:00 I was going to ask you and then I ran out of time,

4:01 but if you don't mind, that'd be great.

4:04 Yeah.

4:04 Well, I think Well, let me see if we have a photo of her.

4:10 Oops.

4:10 Shoot.

4:46 Yeah.

4:51 Block Party.

4:52 You know, Block Party.

4:53 Yeah.

5:29 Yeah.

5:35 See, I don't buy that.

5:36 If you have code enforce, if you have code enforcement standing there like

6:01 operations coming home and then jewelry handbags and family CBS joining

6:25 us live from where the the same crew to other organiz

7:09 Yeah.

7:10 It's a It's a lot of these are

7:11 the South American crime groups that come up here,

7:14 they they coordinate together, they go hit a bunch of homes at once.

7:17 That's why we see them in waves because they come

7:19 in, they run through the valley for a month and then leave.

7:22 Yeah.

7:25 Yeah.

7:25 Nice carus.

7:50 She said the suspect carry her back.

7:59 Yeah, that's why that's why security experts say like you really should

8:05 do like a hardwire security system that's not tied to your Wi-Fi.

8:09 Because when you have Wi-Fi cameras,

8:11 that's what they're jamming is your Wi-Fi signal.

8:13 So that you're

8:23 Yeah.

8:24 Right.

8:27 But that's why a lot of people say

8:28 you should use hardline cameras instead of Wi-Fi.

8:39 Yeah.

9:03 told me that detectives At this time with an attempted

9:29 assassination of President Trump in federal court Allen faces charges incident.

9:44 Allan shot a federal officer who was

9:45 wearing mask and wearing one of his attorneys.

10:43 You talking SRTC?

11:03 YouTube.

11:04 I forgot about you.

11:16 Hey Tyler.

11:17 Um, Six Flags ended up not being um anything.

11:20 It was just a threat before it was open.

11:27 He goes over the dead well.

11:28 No, Carlos.

11:29 I don't know what he was doing.

11:30 A um

11:32 he was doing a

11:35 What was he doing?

11:35 Look at this.

11:36 I think he was doing over there.

11:38 Hey Joe.

11:38 Hey lady.

11:44 Yeah, lady.

11:45 Somebody called in a threat this morning.

11:46 The sheriff's department went out there and looked into it.

11:49 It was before the park opened.

12:02 facilities.

12:05 Meanwhile, President Trump told CBS News for a period of time.

12:12 Ultimately, it's up to Congress to

12:21 Comllollywood's biggest offici over their new movie.

12:33 Plus, flames on the water.

12:34 More than two workers evacuated off our coast after a bizarre bus.

12:54 Oh, yeah.

12:54 Tyler, did you um Bye-bye.

12:57 Have fun.

12:58 Um, yeah, lady, you're right.

13:04 Yeah, Tyler, did you end up at work or was it

13:06 already cleared out by the time you had to go in?

13:09 Because my understanding is that the call happened before the park opened.

13:16 What did you do for Mother's Day, Amy?

13:18 I went out pancakes.

13:21 Nice.

13:20 That's all I wanted was.

13:22 It's funny because every I feel like every mom has a different

13:25 like kind of idea of what they want for Mother's Day.

13:27 My mom likes to have like quiet, relaxing, you know, whatever.

13:31 Cuz I we've done the thing like we've taken her to the brunches and all

13:34 of that, but sometimes it ends up being

13:35 especially cuz she still has my younger siblings.

13:40 Yeah.

13:39 And so sometimes it ends up being like more overwhelming than relaxing.

13:44 So I like to that's why I always try

13:45 to like give her like a you know a quieter one.

13:54 Yeah.

13:56 Yeah.

13:56 Exactly.

13:59 Yeah.

14:03 Oh, good for you.

14:13 Oh, yeah.

15:10 Ah, nice.

15:17 I worked at a um water park when I was in high school.

15:20 Tyler You got to talk to KTLA.

15:32 That's a different station.

15:35 What are we researching?

15:36 Um been doing a bunch of different stuff.

15:40 This is um right now I'm doing uh this oil rig fire.

15:50 America.

16:29 We have pretty strict rules.

16:30 um uh JD about our use of AI and what we can use it for.

16:37 Company has a lot of restrictions on it for us understandably.

16:39 So, The World Health Organiz The outbreak on killed

17:09 three people in health and the state department

17:20 of public health is addressing concerns today about

17:23 the outbreak and California residents exposed to the virus.

17:47 one of the four county too Good for you.

18:11 CBS Evans tells us two police officers says the film unfairly.

18:28 inspired by Oh, you mean this camera?

19:00 Yeah, it's just on a You can't see it, but it's on a um thing right here.

19:04 It's just a like a almost a conveyor belt.

19:36 Hey David, how are you?

19:40 What was I reporting on?

19:41 Valencia High School tonight in the building.

20:09 Yeah, he is on his way to Ontario right now.

20:27 says she is working more tax.

21:02 Copy.

21:03 Huh?

21:05 What' you say, Marco?

21:07 Okay, copy.

21:53 Thank Thank you.

21:55 Look, I'm sorry to make you do that.

22:03 Thank you.

22:04 Thank you.

22:50 Hey Ev, here at the death we're learning new details about

22:52 a fire on an oil rig off the coast of Santa Barbara.

22:55 What the Coast Guard is saying today.

22:57 That's ahead at 4:30.

23:10 It took me 40 minutes to get over this mountain today.

23:16 I was telling these guys the problem is is

23:18 they don't tell anybody that there's going to be construction.

23:20 So, you don't know that you're going to get stuck

23:22 here until you're already up the mountain with nowhere to go.

23:34 At least it's for real work.

23:35 There's been times where this has happened and they're like doing tree trimming,

23:38 which drives me nuts.

23:48 Yeah.

23:49 Or do it at night when there's no one driving.

25:03 Yeah, we can move on.

25:08 Um, let's see.

25:12 Tyler, not really.

25:13 Um, I try to eat between shows, but not really.

25:18 Yeah, everyone's kind of different.

25:26 JD, I was in the chopper last Tuesday, actually.

25:27 I got to fly up there.

25:29 Desmond was uh doing jury duty.

26:02 evacuated today.

26:12 Absolutely want and Amy and just within the last two hours we've

26:14 gotten word from the Coast Guard that they have the fire controlled.

26:17 They're not saying out, but they say they have it controlled and they

26:20 are allowing some of the personnel from the rig back

26:22 onto the rig so that they can begin to do

26:24 inspections and try to figure out exactly what happened.

26:26 Meanwhile, I'll show you the photos here from the US Coast Guard.

26:29 This is off the coast of Santa Barbara, 7.9 nautical miles off of land here.

26:33 This is where that rig is burning.

26:34 Remember, there are a lot of uh uh oil

26:36 rigs out there at sea uh across the coast.

26:39 Now, this one is called Habitat.

26:40 They are saying it's secured and it's being trans and then

26:43 that I mentioned personnel being transferred

26:45 back on board to conduct safety work.

26:47 It's unclear what started the fire, how long the rig will be offline.

26:50 Uh certainly makes you wonder though what kind of uh implications this may have.

26:54 Gas prices we already know in oil,

26:56 all of those things are always such a concern.

26:58 They do have a thousand yard safety

26:59 zone around uh the around the platform there.

27:02 So no one will be able to get anywhere

27:03 close to it at least until this work is done.

27:05 And I also was just looking,

27:06 there are flight restrictions above it as well to make sure that nobody

27:09 gets close to this while they try to sort all of this out.

27:11 But again, the Coast Guard reporting to us that the uh fire has been

27:14 controlled and they are letting some personnel back on board to do safety work.

27:18 We'll have to keep following this and see exactly what happened aboard

27:20 that Habitat oil rig out there off the coast of Santa Barbara, guys.

27:24 All right, thanks so much.

27:32 I'm here till 11:30.

27:34 Tyler all night long awareness patic.

28:47 Well, the thing is well, right.

28:54 They're they're motorcycles and what the the kid that was,

28:58 you know, unfortunately was killed in Garden Grove.

29:01 um like that requires that a it's not street legal

29:04 because it doesn't have license plates or tail lights or anything

29:07 like that, but it's also supposed to be ridden it could

29:09 only be ridden by somebody who has a valid motorcycle license.

29:12 That's okay.

29:13 So, that was because we were talking about that on Friday is like, you know,

29:15 cities need to have more regulations and it's like it's

29:17 already a state law and they're just not being followed.

29:21 But I think parents don't always fully grasp the abilities

29:25 of these things when they're buying them for kids.

29:27 They just think it's battery power.

29:29 Yeah.

29:29 Right.

29:29 Exactly.

29:34 I think the rules of the road,

29:48 right?

30:18 They were in the road.

30:25 Those parents are an investigation under a car.
