Pensando Inglés
0:05 Are you ready to learn some real life English with comprehensible input?
0:10 Well, good, because today I am going to take you guys with me
0:14 on a normal average day in the life of an American family man.
0:20 Let's go.
0:21 All right, guys.
0:22 As you saw in the introduction, this is going to be a normal day
0:26 in the life of your English speaking friend, Kyle.
0:29 a father, a husband, a YouTuber.
0:32 This is going to be a completely average day in my life.
0:36 And I'm not gonna go look for cool things to record.
0:39 I'm going to record the normal things that I
0:42 do when I'm not thinking about making content.
0:46 This is real life, guys.
0:48 The idea of this video is the everyday life
0:51 of a family man here in the United States.
0:54 And a family man is a man who takes care of his family.
0:58 So, let me just say in my opinion, whether you're a man or a woman,
1:03 if you dedicate a big part of your life to taking care of your family,
1:06 your children, your husband, and your wife, you are a hero,
1:10 and you are what makes this a good world.
1:13 Nothing is more important than family.
1:15 So, to be honest, guys, I am not the average American family man.
1:20 The average American family man does not make YouTube videos.
1:24 He does not cook crazy dishes from around the world.
1:27 But I'm going to show you a day in the life of this American family man.
1:31 So this is how it starts, guys.
1:33 I woke up.
1:34 I didn't even brush my hair yet.
1:36 My hair always looks crazy when I wake up.
1:39 Now, one thing that I would say maybe is common with the American family, man.
1:44 Caffeine.
1:46 I always start my day with some coffee.
1:48 I like my coffee cold most of the time.
1:51 So, my lovely wife made me some coffee last night,
1:54 put it in the refrigerator, and now I have my coffee.
2:01 So, guys, if this was a day where I was working my job,
2:06 I would not be home right now.
2:07 I would have left while it was still dark outside.
2:10 Now, that part may be common to a lot of American men,
2:13 but since I'm not working today and it's a school day,
2:17 and when we say a school day, guys,
2:19 we mean it's Monday through Friday and children are going to school.
2:23 My day usually starts off with having some coffee and then getting Connor,
2:27 my son, ready for school.
2:29 So, in a few minutes, I'll wake him up,
2:32 tell him to get in the shower and get ready for his day,
2:35 and I'll make him a little bit of breakfast.
2:38 So, let's get going in this real life, normal day.
2:42 Okay, guys.
2:43 Connor is in the shower.
2:45 Now, it's time for me to make him a little bit of breakfast.
2:48 I used to make him eggs all the time, and I love when my child eats eggs
2:54 because they're one of the most nutritious foods,
2:58 but he's gotten tired of that, and he begs
3:01 me to make him something different every now and then.
3:05 So, when we're taking a break from eggs, I'll make him a quesadilla.
3:10 Everybody in South America knows what a quesadilla is,
3:13 but just in case that's not something that people usually eat where
3:18 you are from, a quesadilla is basically a tortilla with cheese in it.
3:24 So, I'll put his tortilla in a little pan, put some cheese on it.
3:29 That is basically a quesadilla.
3:31 So, every day doesn't have to be a fancy breakfast.
3:33 you know, we have to leave for school here soon.
3:36 I have to take Connor to school.
3:37 This is just a quick,
3:38 easy way to make sure he has protein
3:41 from the cheese and won't be hungry while he's in class.
3:44 And I try and make sure that my family eats good food.
3:47 Not every meal is going to be, you know, something incredible.
3:52 Uh, but, you know, he's getting protein.
3:55 He's a growing boy.
3:57 He needs these calories.
3:58 And the most important part, he actually likes it.
4:03 So maybe this is not the best breakfast I could make for him,
4:06 but it's quick, it's easy,
4:08 and it's a million times better than sugary cereal that most
4:14 children here in the United States are probably eating right now.
4:17 So it's a compromise.
4:18 And then maybe tomorrow I'll make him eggs.
4:21 So basically the quesadilla, just a tortilla with cheese in it.
4:26 It gets crunchy on the outside, the cheese melts, tastes really good.
4:31 Our Mexican friends will tell you that quesadillas are delicious.
4:36 All right, guys.
4:36 See you in a bit.
4:37 It's a cold morning here in Indiana,
4:40 so I'm doing something that we often have to do on days like this.
4:44 Start your car so it could warm up before you drive in it.
4:52 So, I will start my car, turn on the heat,
4:56 and then in about 10 minutes when Connor and I go to school,
5:00 car will be nice and warm so we don't have to freeze while we're driving.
5:04 All right, buddy.
5:04 You ready for school?
5:07 Yeah.
5:07 Yeah.
5:08 What does that mean?
5:09 I don't like school.
5:11 Why don't you like school?
5:12 Cuz why?
5:13 It's a bit boring.
5:14 It's a bit boring, but you're doing very good at it.
5:18 Yeah.
5:18 Tell me one good thing about school.
5:20 There's recess.
5:23 Recess.
5:23 Okay.
5:24 And while I'm driving, explain to the people what recess is.
5:27 It's basically just a time at school where
5:31 basically it's just a time in elementary school,
5:34 which isn't in like middle school or anything sadly,
5:37 but yeah, it's like a time that you can
5:40 just run around outside and or inside and or indoors.
5:45 It's doesn't have good weather.
5:46 So when it's cold, too cold outside or raining, you guys do recess inside?
5:53 Yeah.
5:55 Okay.
5:54 Yeah.
5:54 So recess is a time when the kids get to take a break from their classes.
5:58 And apparently that's Connor's favorite part of school.
6:01 All right, guys.
6:02 Now I'm about to drop Connor off.
6:04 Now to drop something or someone off is a great piece of vocabulary.
6:08 And what it means is you take them somewhere and they leave, but you don't.
6:14 So, it's just you're driving someone somewhere or you're delivering something.
6:18 You can drop off food to somebody or if you're a parent like me,
6:24 you can drop off your kiddo at school.
6:25 Conor's writing me a note so I remember to plug in his video
6:29 game so it'll be charged when he gets off of school.
6:32 I'll remember, buddy.
6:33 I'm going to keep this.
6:35 You need a pencil?
6:37 Yeah.
6:38 Okay.
6:38 My classroom's kind of running out of pencils.
6:40 All right.
6:41 Do your very best today, buddy.
6:43 Be kind.
6:43 All right.
6:44 I love you.
6:45 Proud of you.
6:47 Bye.
6:47 All right, little man.
6:48 Keep getting those good grades.
6:49 All right.
6:49 Be here for you after school.
6:53 Okay.
6:52 Bye, buddy.
6:53 I always try and give him little motivational speeches when I drop him off
6:57 just to keep his mind in a positive place while he's at school because listen,
7:03 I understand that for a kid, most kids,
7:07 school can be very boring, but it's something he has to do.
7:11 So, I try and teach him to do his best and do it with a positive mindset.
7:16 All right, guys.
7:17 Now that I have taken care of my responsibilities as a father for the morning,
7:22 I have a little bit of Kyle time.
7:25 Okay, this is the time I use to work on my goals, to make videos,
7:30 to do the things that I need to do to improve my life and my family's life.
7:36 So, what I'm working on today, we're going running, guys.
7:42 I've been so focused on this channel and, you know,
7:47 improving things in that part of my life that I
7:51 haven't put as much attention into my physical health lately,
7:54 and I'm sad about that.
7:56 I don't like that.
7:57 I've gained a little bit of weight.
7:59 I don't like the way I look, and I've got a baby coming.
8:03 I have a 10-year-old son and I have a beautiful wife.
8:06 So, I need to take care of my body and my health for me,
8:10 but also for them so that my children can have a healthy father as a role model,
8:16 as an example, and because my wife is beautiful.
8:20 So, she needs a husband that looks okay at least.
8:24 So guys, I'm going to go run at least one mile and probably walk another one,
8:29 but I might run two miles today if
8:32 I feel good because I just started running again.
8:36 I ran one mile two days ago.
8:39 I ran one mile yesterday.
8:41 So, I'm going to run at least one mile today,
8:45 but if I'm feeling good, I might try and push it to two.
8:48 So, we're here at one of my favorite running trails.
8:51 Let's go do some work.
8:56 All right, guys.
8:57 I ran a little bit over a mile and then
8:59 walked the rest of the way for two miles.
9:02 So, got some good cardio exercise.
9:06 Now, I'm going to go to the gym and lift a little bit of weights.
9:09 Not going to record that because I do not like when people film in the gym.
9:13 I think it's rude to all the other people who are just trying to work out.
9:17 So, right now, I'm going to the gym.
9:20 Then I will go home and show you guys the first meal
9:23 of my day because many of you know I don't eat breakfast.
9:28 I eat two times every day.
9:30 So, let me go get a good workout and then
9:32 I'll show you how I'm going to refuel my body.
9:35 See you guys in a few.
9:36 All right, guys.
9:37 I had a really good workout at the gym.
9:39 I'm feeling good.
9:40 Time to get some protein, vitamins, nutrition in my body.
9:46 So, what are what am I going to eat for my first meal today?
9:50 Leftovers.
9:51 Leftovers is great piece of vocabulary.
9:54 What does leftovers mean?
9:55 Well, leftovers means that you cook something yesterday or the day before
10:00 and there was enough of it left that you can eat it again later.
10:05 So, I've got some really good leftovers from last night.
10:08 And I think they're going to be even better than they were yesterday because
10:11 this dish has a bunch of spices and it gets into the meat and tastes delicious.
10:16 Last night I made some chicken masala.
10:19 I'm going to heat this up.
10:20 I'll show you guys what it looks like when I eat it.
10:22 It's my first time making this dish.
10:24 Absolutely awesome.
10:26 So, shout out to our Indian friends.
10:28 Love your guys food.
10:29 All right, guys.
10:30 I've got my chicken masala here.
10:33 That is what it looks like.
10:34 I've got some Greek yogurt here, some rice underneath.
10:38 This is packed full of protein.
10:41 Can't wait to eat this, guys.
10:46 M absolutely delicious.
10:54 All right, I'm going to eat this and then we have some work to do.
10:57 See you guys in a bit.
10:58 All right, guys.
10:59 So, what I have to do, work on my car.
11:02 I have to change the brake pads.
11:04 Okay.
11:05 Now, on a car, and this is going to be
11:07 a ton of great vocabulary for you guys on any vehicle,
11:12 the thing that makes the car stop is called the brakes.
11:16 Okay?
11:17 And this is the brake pads.
11:19 Okay?
11:20 When you push the brake pedal in your car,
11:22 these two things come together to stop your tires from moving.
11:26 All right?
11:27 Now, we're going to learn vocabulary about a bunch of tools.
11:31 Bunch of important tools that you probably
11:33 will not see in any other English video.
11:36 So, right here behind the behind the wheel is where the brake caliper is.
11:42 I'll show you what the brake caliper is when we get in there.
11:45 But in order to change the brake pads, I have to take the tire off.
11:49 Okay?
11:50 And if you want to take the tire off, you have to lift up the vehicle.
11:54 But, and this is a mistake I made before when I was younger, too.
11:58 If you're changing a tire or taking a tire off,
12:02 you always want to loosen these before you lift up or jack up the car.
12:09 So, first thing we need to do is take this lug wrench.
12:13 This is called a lug wrench because these are called lug nuts.
12:18 So, we take the lug wrench and we're going to loosen up all these lug nuts.
12:22 You loosen them by turning by turning the lug wrench.
12:27 And guys, because dirt and things get in there,
12:30 sometimes they're really hard to turn like that.
12:38 Super hard.
12:38 And you can see because it's hard how much the car is rocking.
12:42 That's why you do it before you lift up the car
12:44 because it could make it fall off of the jack.
12:50 All right.
12:55 Now that we've got them all loose enough
12:57 to where we can turn them with our fingers, we will jack up the car.
13:01 Now, jacking up a car just means that you lift the car up.
13:05 And in order to lift or jack the car up, you use a jack.
13:09 And so, this is a car jack.
13:11 You put it under the vehicle.
13:12 You make sure you find the right spot.
13:14 There's a little arrow here that shows me where to go.
13:17 And then you use this little bar to jack up the car.
13:23 And you're going to keep on lifting until the tire is up off the ground.
13:28 All right.
13:28 Now that we've got the car jacked up enough
13:30 to where the tire can move a little bit, I know I'll be able to get it off.
13:34 But first, for safety, because I'm not on the highway on the side of the road.
13:40 I'm at my house and I have the tools.
13:41 So, for safety, we're going to use this tool, which is called a jack stand.
13:46 And what this does, guys,
13:48 you could see these jacks that they give you when you buy a car.
13:52 They're cheap.
13:53 They're not very strong.
13:54 And believe me, many times I've had my car
13:57 roll while I was trying to work on it.
13:59 And then if it rolls and the jack stand falls, the car will go like this.
14:04 Boom.
14:05 Now, I obviously do not want that happening while my hands are
14:08 in here because maybe I'll lose a finger and be looking like this.
14:13 Okay.
14:13 Okay.
14:13 So, what the jack stand does, you bring it over here.
14:19 All right, guys.
14:19 So, now the weight of the car is supported by this much stronger tool.
14:24 Now, I know I'm safe to start working on the tire.
14:30 So, we'll take the bolts off.
14:32 Make sure you don't lose them.
14:34 Okay, we've got all the bolts off.
14:35 Now, we can take off the wheel.
14:49 All right, guys.
14:50 That there is all you need to know how to do to know how to change a tire.
14:55 So, if you're ever in a vehicle and you need to change a tire, do just that.
15:00 Then put the new one on and do the opposite.
15:02 But right now, we are working on this.
15:05 This right here is called the brake caliper.
15:07 And like I said, it holds the brake pads.
15:09 And the brake pads on this are old and they're making funny noises when I drive.
15:14 So, let's figure out how to take this brake caliper off.
15:17 Hold on a second.
15:17 I'm gonna need a couple more tools.
15:19 Okay, guys.
15:20 This is called a screwdriver, and it has nothing to do with this job.
15:24 Only thing I need screwdriver for is because I don't have long nails.
15:28 If I had long, strong nails,
15:30 I'd be able to get this little plastic piece off, but I don't.
15:33 So, I'm going to use a screwdriver.
15:37 And that's just these little caps that protect
15:39 the bolts that we need to take out.
15:41 So, there's two of them on the brake caliper.
15:43 One and two.
15:44 And you don't want to lose these.
15:46 Now, inside there, this is where I just removed the little piece.
15:50 Inside there, there's a little bolt.
15:52 Now, I don't remember what size it is,
15:55 but it's not a bolt you can take off with this.
15:59 You have to use what we call Allen keys.
16:01 Some people call these Allen keys.
16:03 Some people call these Allen wrenches.
16:06 And I don't exactly remember what size it is,
16:08 so I'll have to try a couple different ones.
16:10 Let's try this one.
16:23 No, not that.
16:24 All right.
16:25 So, I guess it's this one.
16:26 And this is a/4 in.
16:28 Now, I need to loosen those bolts.
16:30 And I'll show you what to do next.
16:32 Give me a second because I don't want you guys to see
16:34 me getting mad cuz sometimes they're a little hard to get off.
16:37 So, I'll see you once I make that happen.
16:40 All right, guys.
16:41 I loosened the top bolt.
16:43 It was on there super tight, so I had to use some WD40.
16:48 And what WD40 is is a lubricant that helps when things are super tightened up,
16:54 when they're rusted.
16:55 Because you can see how rusty it is, guys.
16:58 Things rust here a lot because of all the rain and the change of the weather.
17:03 So things get rusty and they get so tight.
17:07 Little bit of this really helped.
17:08 And let's see if I can get that bottom one off without
17:10 too much too much trouble because I already sprayed it with some WD40.
17:25 Ah.
17:26 Yeah.
17:27 All right, guys.
17:28 Much better.
17:29 And once again, that's why I use the jack stand.
17:32 Why I'm using the jack stand because I have to really turn these bolts and I
17:37 do not want this falling on me and crushing my arm in my hand, guys.
17:41 So, all right, let me get this one out
17:43 and then I'll show you how to replace the brake pads.
17:46 All right, guys.
17:46 I got the bolts out.
17:48 Now, we need to remove the caliper itself and the old brake pads.
17:52 All right.
17:53 Now, we need another tool.
17:54 And I'm happy I have this one.
17:56 This is called a caliper tool.
17:59 And this little piece right here, guys,
18:01 this is what opens and closes when you when you push the brakes on your car.
18:06 Okay.
18:06 But there's one other thing I just remembered that I'm happy I remembered.
18:10 I'm thinking about the video and I wasn't thinking about this.
18:13 We need to do something we call popping the hood.
18:29 So this is the hood and when we open it, we call that popping the hood.
18:34 And then right here, this is the brake fluid.
18:37 We just have to open that up.
18:38 And when we open that cap,
18:40 it relieves pressure and will allow me to compress this brake.
18:44 So guys, this part, like I was saying,
18:46 this closes and opens, and that's what stops your tire from spinning.
18:53 So we need our caliper tool.
18:55 And what this does is allows us to push
18:57 that in so that we can put the new brake pads in.
19:00 Let me see if I can show you guys how it works.
19:13 put it in like this and you tighten it.
19:15 And you can see that this part is slowly pushing back in.
19:19 And you're just going to turn the caliper
19:21 tool until that is all the way in there.
19:24 And guys, I'm happy I took that cap off because if I didn't,
19:28 there would be so much pressure in the brake
19:30 system that that would not move an inch.
19:32 All right, so we're going to compress it all the way.
19:35 All right, it's in there all the way.
19:37 Now we're ready to put the new brakes in.
19:39 The new brake pads.
19:40 The one goes here.
19:42 The other one goes like this.
19:43 Fans.
19:44 There we go.
19:45 And then it slides back on like this.
19:48 Okay, now I have to put the bolts back in.
19:50 All right, guys.
19:51 Caliper back on.
19:52 New brake pads on.
19:54 I'm dirty, but doing this saved my family probably a couple hundred.
20:00 Uh, I bought the brake caliper pads and the couple
20:03 of tools that probably cost me $50 $60.
20:08 But if I did this, if I took this to a car shop and ask them to do it,
20:12 they might charge me $200.
20:14 So that's uh, you have to think about what's more important,
20:17 your time or your money.
20:18 And at this point right now, guys, it's definitely worth it for me to save $150
20:23 to come out here and do this for an hour.
20:26 So that's part of being a family man.
20:28 New brake job done.
20:30 We just have to put the tire back on.
20:32 Then I'll wash up and show you guys the next part of my day.
20:35 Hope you enjoyed learning some good vocabulary about tools.
20:39 All right.
20:39 So, since I finished my car, that was about an hour and a half ago.
20:45 What I did after that was I got cleaned up.
20:48 You can see I have clean hands now.
20:50 That's one of the bad things about working on cars.
20:53 That stuff that gets on your hands, it's really hard to get off.
20:55 you need really good soap to clean yourself up.
20:58 But after that, I got cleaned up and then I meditated for about 40 minutes.
21:06 And if you guys have been watching me for a while,
21:09 you know that I am a meditation super fan.
21:14 I think it's incredibly important.
21:16 And I don't think everybody needs to meditate,
21:19 but I think everybody that has goals needs to meditate.
21:23 So, if you're somebody who cares enough
21:25 about your life to write down your goals,
21:28 to think about what it is you want to achieve with your life,
21:33 you're the kind of person that needs to be meditating.
21:36 Okay?
21:37 If you're the kind of person that doesn't worry about that sort of thing,
21:40 I wouldn't worry about meditating either.
21:43 But it is super important for the brain that is always thinking.
21:47 All right?
21:48 If you're a big thinker and you you have trouble stopping to think, meditate.
21:53 Anyway, now I am picking up, Connor.
21:57 Now, this is another great piece of vocabulary.
22:00 To pick up is the opposite of to drop off.
22:04 Okay?
22:05 So, when I took Connor to school this morning, I dropped him off.
22:10 I drove here, he got out, and I left.
22:14 That's called dropping off.
22:16 All right?
22:17 But now it is the end of the school day and I came to the school.
22:22 Connor's gonna get in.
22:24 That is called picking him up.
22:25 I'm coming to get him.
22:27 I'm picking him up.
22:29 So when I come to pick Connor up, I come early because there's a line
22:34 of cars of parents waiting to get their kids.
22:37 So, I come early so I can get a good spot
22:40 in the line so Connor doesn't have to wait too long
22:42 after school and it gives me a little bit of extra
22:45 time to do a few things that I need to do.
22:48 And right now, I'm editing a video.
22:51 Okay, now maybe you saw this video already because when you watch my videos,
22:58 you're almost traveling in time.
23:00 Okay, right now I'm editing a video that you
23:03 will already have seen when you see this video.
23:06 I know, mind blown, right?
23:10 So anyway, I have about 25 minutes,
23:13 25 to 35 minutes before Connor gets out of school.
23:17 So while I am waiting,
23:19 I will use my time well and I will finish editing this video.
23:23 After Connor comes out, we will go home and it will almost be time for dinner,
23:28 but I'll show you what we do before that.
23:31 Uh tonight's dinner is going to be really good.
23:34 I'm excited to try it.
23:37 And I didn't plan this, but today is almost going to be
23:40 like an Indian food day because I'm cooking another Indian recipe for dinner.
23:44 So, Indian food's great.
23:46 So, I'm happy for that.
23:47 All right.
23:47 I'll see you guys after I get Connor.
23:49 All right, guys.
23:50 I am making dinner.
23:52 I am making a delicious looking because I haven't tried it yet,
23:56 beef dish called beef vindaloo.
23:59 That's what it looks like right now.
24:00 And we're going to have some naan bread with it.
24:03 M.
24:04 And let me tell you guys, I got something really cool for my kitchen.
24:08 It's a bread maker.
24:10 And having this bread maker, guys, is making my life so much easier.
24:15 You guys want to see my new bread maker?
24:22 I taught the lovely camera wife how to make bread,
24:24 and now she's been making it for me.
24:26 So, I'm super happy.
24:28 I've made a lot of bread,
24:29 but now my wife's doing a really good job, so I don't have to anymore.
24:33 All right, I'll show you guys what the food looks like when we're done.
24:36 All right, guys.
24:37 Beef in the delicious naan here.
24:42 Looks like Connor's already trying it.
24:44 It's a bit hot, actually.
24:45 It's super hot.
24:47 Can I have a piece of naan bread?
24:48 Let me try it with some naan.
24:54 Super good.
24:55 But beef vindaloo is supposed to be super spicy,
24:58 but because of these guys, I didn't make it super spicy.
25:02 So, it just has that Indian flavor.
25:04 Connor loves his naan.
25:07 It's so good.
25:08 The meat Connor approved.
25:10 All right, guys.
25:10 I'm going to end the video here.
25:11 It's our family dinner,
25:13 and nothing really fun or exciting is going to happen for the rest
25:16 of the day because the rest of the day is just going to be family time,
25:20 relaxing, maybe watch a movie or something,
25:23 but we're going to enjoy our dinner and then go relax for the rest of our night.
25:27 So, hope you guys enjoyed this video as much
25:30 as my family is enjoying this food right now.
25:33 It's so good, baby.
