0:26 I know fans have been lobbying for Yellowstone to continue,

0:29 but what convinced you that Beth and Rip story should continue?

0:33 Well, I mean, I was excited about seeing the next iteration of them,

0:36 you know, what is it like not having the pressure of Yellowstone Ranch?

0:40 You know, um, and seeing them kind of move

0:42 on into this next phase of their life, you know, is it going to be peaceful?

0:46 Are they going to have time for love and just,

0:48 you know, serenity, I guess, and ultimately, uh, lightning strikes.

0:53 So, yeah.

0:54 Yeah.

0:55 You're also both executive producers on the show.

0:57 Tell me a little bit about what it was like to wear that hat for the series.

1:00 I mean, there's a responsibility we which neither of us wear lightly.

1:05 We really care about the show.

1:07 We really care about our characters.

1:08 We sort of feel like we're guardians of them.

1:10 And but the show as a whole,

1:12 like there is something about taking

1:13 that on and that we were very lucky that we had

1:17 a creative voice and we were collaborating with the writers

1:21 and with uh Christina Boris who's our director.

1:24 She's also our DP and and producer.

1:27 So, there was just a lot of um things that we just intrinsically

1:31 understand about Beth and Rip because we've

1:33 been playing them for almost 10 years.

1:35 So, we've got there's a lot of um just knowledge that we have

1:38 and then just being trying to be open to who are they now,

1:42 you know, who are they now after they've gone through so much.

1:45 If either one of you want to walk, I won't hold it against you or with you.

1:48 We'll

1:49 be right next to you.

1:51 I love the term guardians of the character, too.

1:53 That's

1:54 and I haven't know just the ability to work with other actors as well.

1:56 You know, I mean, we we have a phenomenal cast,

1:59 but being able to talk with them and be able to hear their creative process

2:03 and try to help them get comfortable in their own skin and and in the show,

2:07 I think that's important as an EP is to make everybody

2:10 else around you feel like they're important and special as well.

2:13 You know, it's not just about the two of us and Finn.

2:16 It's about this amazing cast.

2:18 So true.

2:18 Let's talk about the amazing cast because

2:19 you have a formidable foe in Annette Benning.

2:22 Now you bought the Edwards ranch.

2:24 It's the Dun Ranch.

2:25 Now

2:27 you met Miss Ria Paloma herself.

2:29 She's an acquired taste.

2:31 Bula Jackson, a grizzly Gucci.

2:34 Why was she the perfect person to go up against Beth?

2:37 Oh my god.

2:38 I mean, Annette is Well,

2:39 we don't I don't Nette is such a powerhouse of an actress.

2:43 She's um she's a hero of mine for sure over the years.

2:46 So she is um

2:49 she buler you can't really pin her down.

2:52 I mean there is a mcurial kind of playful

2:56 but slightly very dangerous venomous woman in there.

3:00 Terrifying just like a glance smiling.

3:03 She's like hitting on me too.

3:05 It's very I mean that's unsettling nuance.

3:08 I love it.

3:08 She's playing little games you know behind her eyes.

3:10 I mean it's

3:12 Yeah.

3:12 You don't know where you stand with her.

3:13 Yeah.

3:14 So Beth is immediately sus, you know, she didn't like her immediately.

3:18 She's got everything.

3:19 But she's actually a worthy sort of adversary,

3:21 I think, because they're both daughters of huge ranch owners.

3:25 They both bear the responsibility and burden of trying to keep

3:29 the the land um in their name and uh the legacy alive.

3:33 So they do understand one another.

3:35 And these are two really really smart women.

3:37 So you get to see them sort of circle one another

3:40 and then maybe need one another.

3:43 Rip and Beth have secrets,

3:45 and people with secrets can be useful, corruptible even.

3:49 See, that's what makes it so fun to watch, too,

3:51 because they're both so smart where you're like, where is this going to go?

3:53 I love that.

3:55 Um, you're also both facing the challenges of parenting a teen.

3:57 How does Carter Carter's new potential love interest cause problems?

4:01 We battled with the word parenting because I don't think Beth and Rip are,

4:05 you know, fit to really be parents in a sense, but

4:08 they're not the most natural,

4:09 but that that makes I think that's what makes it fun

4:12 to watch is that you suddenly see these two characters take that.

4:15 Yeah.

4:15 They're imperfect in their own, you know, way.

4:17 They take it on in their soul.

4:19 They love him.

4:20 And Finn is so great about like, you know,

4:21 in certain scenes where we have where he's trying to figure

4:25 out who to listen to and who who to acknowledge.

4:27 and he's so wonderful as an actor that, you know,

4:30 he really did a great job of like, you know, understanding what the want is

4:34 for Beth and her character, but also with Rip.

4:37 And so, you know, to watch him just kind of struggle with who to listen to

4:41 and he's 19.

4:42 He's not like reparing a 12year-old.

4:45 I mean, we saw Beth do do that when she brought him home.

4:48 Some of my most favorite scenes are with Finn in in Yellowstone

4:51 and just so so this soul connection of when like she was with him

4:55 in a room when his father died and he was there when

4:59 her father died and I think they just are just on a soul level.

5:02 They're meant for one another.

5:04 Yeah.

5:04 She she never was able to have children and he,

5:07 you know, doesn't have any parents.

5:08 So it was like she she brings him home and yells her and she's like he's like,

5:12 "Who's that?" And she's I think it might be our kid baby.

5:15 She's just like sipping on a beer.

5:17 She's just so like matter of fact about it.

5:19 Um, so I think it's um it's just an immediate love connection between them.

5:24 So to see that grow is really nice.

5:26 But yes, his love interest, he has a girlfriend.

5:30 Yes.

5:29 Beth's going to be protective.

5:31 Don't mess with my boy.

5:33 Mhm.

5:33 I mean, all the normal stuff, but I think uh

5:36 RIP's just like go have fun.

5:38 Yeah.

5:38 Right.

5:38 The different dynamics.

5:40 Talk to me too about Ed Harris joining this series.

5:42 What was it like having him on board?

5:44 Oh man, I've been watching him since I was a little kid.

5:47 You know, there's three VHS.

5:48 You're probably too young for this, but there's three VHS in my home as a kid.

5:52 It was the right stuff that it was the good Godfather and it was giant.

5:57 So to watch him as a little boy and then to have the opportunity,

6:01 there's a great scene where she actually introduces

6:03 the character uh to to Ed and you know,

6:06 it took me a moment to uh in the scene to realize, oh my god, they're heroes.

6:12 And now we're working with them.

6:13 I mean it's always you know you always want to work with great people,

6:18 great storytellers, great writers, but great actors are just like that's that is

6:23 something else in itself right back to you guys.

6:26 The fact they wanted to join us was amazing.

6:28 And obviously Beth of course is still grieving the loss of her dad in some ways.

6:31 I feel like Ed Harris is he providing

6:33 some sort of surrogate father figure moment between them.

6:36 Yeah, I think maybe unconsciously.

6:38 Um I don't think she's looking for somebody else to fill that role.

6:41 I don't think anybody could.

6:42 But what I liked about Beth is that you know in the scene

6:46 in the bar where she meets him

6:47 and usually we've seen Beth destroy people in bars for 6 years 7 years.

6:54 What do you want to make a scene?

6:56 You ready to watch that happen?

6:59 I'm the you I'm her and if you have a brother I'm him too.

7:04 I am chopping your family tree down.

7:08 Thank you.

7:10 Stop shoring my stock please.

7:12 or stop making it so easy.

7:15 It was nice to see her not do it

7:16 and watch her watch somebody else do it so effortlessly

7:20 and she just is like respect like she kind

7:22 of sees him and likes his salty old man vibe.

7:26 Um I think he's her first friend more than a father figure.

7:31 I love that.

7:32 And then lastly, why do you think

7:33 fans of Yellowstone will also love this series?

7:36 I mean, obviously the characters, um, but I think it's, look,

7:41 it seeing them move to a new place and have new challenges.

7:45 Um, an unbelievable cast that we've already talked about,

7:48 but you know, the story is is really,

7:51 in my opinion, it puts these two characters right in the fire,

7:55 literally for for nine episodes.

7:58 We need to be careful with this family.

8:02 No one understands what we've done to protect this ranch.

8:06 No one knows what we do to hold on to it.

8:10 And I think it's it's interesting to see them come from this great empire

8:14 in Yellowstone to now this new place where they they are really nothing.

8:18 I mean they're coming from the ashes and they're

8:20 trying to build their own their own lives.

8:21 Yeah.

8:22 They're starting again and I think

8:23 the audience hopefully is starting again with us.

8:26 So something peaceful.

8:29 You can't chase peace.

8:31 You got to live it.

8:38 Then peace will have to wait.
