0:31 and the president and Maga with a message aimed

0:34 at repairing a strained alliance and really giving them some advice,

0:39 scolding them on what they should be doing and are not doing.

0:48 the Voting Rights Act was just gutted.

0:50 One of the most significant blows to black political power in decades.

0:53 We're getting into all of it right now.

0:56 All the other noise that's going on that they are pushing in front of us,

0:59 the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act.

1:02 They didn't weaken it.

1:03 They didn't limit it.

1:05 They gutted it.

1:07 6-3, Justice Alito writing the majority.

1:11 And what they did today is essentially make it

1:13 almost impossible to challenge a redistricting map for racial discrimination.

1:19 That's what they did.

1:22 Think about what that means.

1:23 The Voting Rights Act was the crown jewel of the civil rights movement.

1:27 It was passed in 1965 because black Americans

1:29 were being systematically shut out of the democratic process.

1:32 Poll taxes, literacy tests.

1:35 You Y'all don't know what that is, some of you.

1:37 If you If you're old If you know, you know.

1:39 Old people be knowing.

1:41 My grandmother would tell me about the poll taxes.

1:46 And even people Look, even it it happen This This happened not so long ago.

1:51 This is 1965.

1:53 If you look back over time, it is not that long.

1:57 There were grandfather clauses and when those obvious tactics got struck down,

2:01 they moved to the next thing,

2:03 drawing district lines to dilute black voting power,

2:06 packing black voters into a few districts

2:08 as possible so that their votes counted for less.

2:11 And that's what they're doing now.

2:12 Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act said you cannot do that.

2:17 That was the protection.

2:19 And today the Supreme Court said, "Actually, never mind.

2:23 You kind of can.

2:24 Not you kind of can, you can." Justice Kagan was so upset that she read

2:28 her dissent from the bench out loud in the courtroom,

2:30 which is something justices almost never do.

2:32 She said the majority eviscerates Section 2.

2:35 She said the law is all but dead.

2:39 "Dead letter," she said.

2:41 She said, "Under this new standard, a state can systematically dilute minority

2:46 citizens' voting power without legal consequence.

2:49 Without legal consequence." And the White House

2:52 called it a complete and total victory.

2:55 That's what Donald Trump said when asked about it.

2:57 He said, "I haven't read it, but is it a victory for Republicans?

3:01 Roll it, Andy." As President Trump said on Saturday night at this podium,

3:26 we as Americans must recommit ourselves to resolving our differences peacefully

3:30 and uniting around the shared values that make our country great.

3:35 The deranged lies and smears against the president, his family,

3:38 his supporters have led crazy people to believe crazy things

3:43 and they are inspired to commit violence because of those words.

3:47 It has to stop.

3:52 She's got to be talking about Donald Trump.

13:40 of Speaker of the House and we diminish the importance

25:06 shot up over a dollar in just the last week.

25:09 Michigan up 86 cents.

25:11 Ohio spiking 80 cents.

25:14 The national average for a gallon of regular is

25:16 now Iran began and the highest since July 2022.

25:24 I'm looking at right now $75 a day in fuel alone.

26:14 Having known the people who now who owned this bar before not

26:20 necessarily when it was Chumley's and then because it is now called 86.

26:25 It's called the 86 now.

26:27 Okay, and it's a restaurant.

26:29 Very fancy restaurant, hard to get in.

26:32 Uh [sighs] So, once upon a time there was this place

26:39 in in New York in America called New York City.

26:42 And New York City had a neighborhood called Greenwich Village.

26:45 And back in the day, America you couldn't drink in America.

26:49 I mean, alcohol was not legal.

26:50 It was prohibition.

26:52 And so, there were bars uh who

26:55 and restaurants that would sneak and serve liquor, right?

26:59 So, there was a bar called Chumley's in the West Village.

27:03 And Chumley's was located at 58 uh Barrow Street.

27:09 And so, the owners of Chumley would pay off

27:13 the New York City police to not raid their place.

27:19 And every once in a while, just to put on a show,

27:24 the officers had to raid the joint because obviously there were people

27:27 going in and out and they'd stumble out drunk and then you know,

27:29 people are like, "Okay." So, they'd have to raid the joint.

27:31 But before they raided the joint,

27:33 what they would do is they would get in touch and with the people,

27:36 they would contact them and say 86.

27:41 So, 86 meant 80 The reason it was

27:44 86 is because Chumley's went was an entire block.

27:50 And on the other street behind Chumley's which was Bedford Street,

27:55 the address at the back entrance was 86 Bedford Street.

28:02 The front entrance was 58 Barrow entrance

28:05 that everybody enters and leaves on normal times,

28:08 which was on Barrow Street, which is 58, when the cops said 86 or 86 the joint,

28:13 that means tell everybody to get their asses out

28:16 and use the 86 entrance on the street behind, which was Bedford Street.

28:21 And so, when they came in, if you didn't want to be in there

28:23 and you didn't want to be raided and get arrested, then you were 86.

28:26 You were out of there and on to the next thing.

28:30 True story.

28:33 This is how ignorant the Trump administration is

28:35 that they don't even know what is behind this.

28:38 And anyone who has ever worked in a restaurant knows what I am talking about.

28:45 So, a government threatening a television network's license.

28:48 Where are we?

28:49 An unauthorized war being defended on Capitol Hill.

28:51 Gas prices draining Americans' wallets with no end in sight.

28:54 And the king addressing Congress and lawmakers

28:57 as a critical alliance hangs in the balance.

29:00 We'll see what happened happens.
