0:06 You need anything?
0:07 I do have one question.
0:09 We didn't mean right now.
0:15 At the start of every year,
0:16 I find [music] myself wondering again, constantly questioning life's mysteries.
0:23 Could I make it in the UFC octagon?
0:25 When Jeff Frost asks, "Survivors ready,
0:28 do they ever want to say no?" Has Dexter ever considered meditation?

0:34 If not, RIP, call me.

0:40 It's going to be the biggest year yet.
0:48 Welcome to Scorecard presented by Avis First.
0:51 You've rented before, but not like this.
0:54 You know, when opportunity knocks, you better answer.
0:56 And Alex Fitzpatrick has done just that over the [music] last few
0:59 weeks since winning side by side with his brother at the Zurich.
1:02 Fitzy cashes a nice check and now in pole
1:05 position heading to our final day at the truest,
1:08 one shot clear of Chris Rayton as that'll be your final pairing Sunday on CBS.
1:15 And we welcome you into Scorecard here.
1:17 Joe Muso alongside Shane Bacon.
1:19 Scorecard is presented by Avis First.
1:21 Shane, quite a day out at Quail Hollow.
1:24 Scoring picks up.
1:25 scoring slows down.
1:26 At the end of the day, it's Alex Fitzpatrick by one.
1:30 You talk about a player seizing his opportunity.
1:33 I'm not sure we could have expected anything like this.
1:35 No, I mean I mean what an opportunity for this guy.
1:37 The way he's been playing golf as of late,
1:38 obviously getting the win alongside his brother at the Zurich.
1:41 You know, I think a lot of the time we we
1:43 sleep on these guys that we don't know a ton about.
1:45 Alex Fitzpatrick, a 27year-old, won a couple times in college,
1:48 was a great amateur player, got up to four in the world in the wagger rating.
1:52 And so when you think about two times played on the Walker Cup,
1:55 made the quarterfinals at the US Amter back in 2018 at Pebble Beach.
2:00 This is a great player.
2:02 He's just obviously overshadowed by his brother.
2:04 Thus, the reason we don't hear as much about him.
2:06 Feels like we're going to hear a lot more about him.
2:07 Six threes on his front nine out in 30.
2:10 Eight birdies in total on his day.
2:12 To score like this anywhere is impressive.
2:15 You have to have that gear to make it to this point in your PGA Tour career.
2:19 But to then apply that gear at the PGA Tour level,
2:22 there seems to be no self-reflection or impostor
2:26 syndrome from a player that got here like this.
2:28 Yeah.
2:28 I mean, I think in in any sport you can find some level of momentum,
2:32 but it feels like in golf you can really ride it.
2:35 We've seen this happen over the years.
2:37 Players that go from the cornfairy tour, you know,
2:39 promoted to the PJ tour and have success.
2:41 I think a lot about Jason Gore in that department years
2:43 ago when he won three times on the corn ferry tour,
2:46 gets promoted to the PJ tour and wins a few weeks later.
2:48 [music] But we haven't quite seen something like this.
2:51 Obviously getting your card in the middle of the season thanks
2:53 to a team victory and rolling it in to this level of success.
2:57 This is what you want in golf.
2:59 You want to see guys find it at some point in their career.
3:02 You think about what we've watched over the last few weeks with Cameron Young.
3:05 He's kind of found it a little bit, if you will, later in his professional run.
3:09 But I mean, this is incredible.
3:10 This is fun to see and he is doing it with his irons.
3:13 At a golf course, you've got to do it with your irons.
3:15 Leading the field in strokes gained approach.
3:17 Not that we're pocket watching,
3:18 but they give out a lot of money at these signature events.
3:20 That was 1.3 for the win at the Zurich.
3:22 I think another half million at the Cadillac
3:24 and poised for another big check and maybe
3:26 the biggest and a trophy here in his third start fulltime on the PGA Tour.
3:31 I guess that would be his second start after the win fulltime on the PGA Tour.
3:34 You can you can rent like a ton of A cars with this paycheck.
3:36 Let me just tell you that
3:37 that you can I'm not sure that will be a problem for either Fitzpatrick.
3:40 You said something interesting there.
3:41 You said in any sport.
3:42 So I was trying to come up with comps
3:44 for what we're seeing right now with Alex Fitzpatrick.
3:47 Do you have something does does this bring
3:48 to mind anything that we've seen in sport
3:50 elsewhere that you get an opportunity like this and you just put pedal to floor?
3:55 Yeah, I mean I like like I look at golf specifically and I look
3:57 at the level of player that kind of roll it into that level of success.
4:00 Can you find it and can you maintain it?
4:02 Maybe not for 5 years or for 10 years.
4:04 Typically that's reserved for the superstar level player,
4:07 but maybe you do for a year or two.
4:09 And I kind of go back to that Jason Gore run.
4:11 It was so fun to see because he was
4:13 doing it on the corny tour and hadn't quite seen
4:15 that success on the PJ tour and to kind of ride that to a win on the PJ tour.
4:19 You think about a couple years ago
4:20 with Matt Mccardi played great on the Cornferry tour,
4:22 gets three wins and rolls that in to a PJ tour win.
4:25 But I mean, you're you're more of a sports
4:27 guy than I am in terms of kind of looking, let's say, big picture.
4:30 Is there a name that comes to mind in your world?
4:32 I went Paul Ske, but Ske was a prodigy.
4:34 It was it was sort of supposed to happen.
4:35 He gets called up and I mean he's a strikeout machine.
4:38 Travis Kelce, does that do anything for you?
4:40 Younger brother to an already established player,
4:43 a future Hall of Famer in Jason Kelce.
4:45 Sort of uncertainty around the beginning of his career,
4:47 a third rounder, gets injured in his first year.
4:50 I don't know if that means he's going to have a worldrenowned podcast
4:53 later on if if the Fitzpatrick's are going to be getting those checks
4:57 doing something to that level.
4:58 That that's where the mind went immediately, Brady.
5:00 But, you know, that suggests he he'll end up being Tiger Woods.
5:03 I think that it's a tough comp to talk, a bridge too far.
5:06 We're going to get to the entire leaderboard here on Scorecard in just a bit.
5:09 But, we have so much to sink our teeth
5:12 into and I think shortly here we're going to be
5:14 taking it up to the Super Tower where
5:16 our guy Colt Nost is getting set and getting comfy.
5:19 And it was a an interesting day in terms of scoring out at Quail Hollow.
5:23 I want your thought on this first, Shane.
5:25 What did you make of the pace of the scoring?
5:26 It felt like the collective consciousness of this golf course sort
5:29 of let its hair down and threes were invogue for a while.
5:32 Then we see him down the stretch run
5:33 and and it's more pars and players holding their water.
5:36 Yeah, it's kind of what the golf course does, right?
5:37 The fact that it kicks you in the teeth late in the round.
5:39 I think we see that a lot at championship style golf courses.
5:42 I do find it very interesting that that today a day
5:44 of scoring with an opportunity to go out there and fire something low.
5:47 The one guy you kind of expect to do it doesn't in Rory Mroy.
5:51 But when you struggle, it gives opportunity to so many names.
5:54 There's a lot of opportunity on the top of this leaderboard come Sunday.
5:57 All right.
5:57 Well, let's get you out to the super tower
5:58 where Texas Golf Hall of Fame inductee Colt Nost,
6:02 by the way, only Hall of Famer within
6:04 us three in case you're wondering about that.
6:06 And I think he's in a few Hall of Fames already.
6:07 I mean, his cup runth over, Colton,
6:09 we are so happy to have you here on Scorecard.
6:12 Talk to me about the scoring today.
6:13 It looks like about a stroke and a quarter underpar across the field.
6:17 What did you make of the opportunity?
6:21 Yeah, we had great conditions out there all day long.
6:23 Obviously, the golf course is inc incredible condition,
6:27 but I mean, what's these guys are shooting around this place.
6:29 I mean, this is a this is a hard golf course to go out there and see 63 and 64s.
6:33 It's just it shows you how good these guys are.
6:36 Um Cam Young, I mean, what a round of golf.
6:37 Even though he bogeied the last, what a round of golf he put together today.
6:40 I mean, man, I don't know if anybody in the world other
6:42 than maybe Nelly Corda is playing better golf than Cam Young right now.
6:46 Cole, you say the golf course is tough.
6:48 I think we agree with you.
6:49 Obviously, it's a tough golf course.
6:51 We said the same thing a week ago with the RA.
6:53 And you think about some of these tests at major championships.
6:55 We talk about them being difficult.
6:57 Yet, these guys go out there and fire crazy low numbers.
7:00 Both superstars and the quote unquote random golfers are able to do it.
7:04 Does it feel like that's kind of the modern game?
7:07 you know, firing at flag sticks, not being scared to shoot a 63,
7:11 a 64 around a golf course that 68 used to be a great number.
7:18 Yeah, I think obviously there's not much rough this week,
7:20 so it allows these guys to get away with a little bit more.
7:22 Um, the greens are extremely firm and fast though,
7:25 but I just it shows you the level
7:27 of of talent these guys have and how good they are.
7:29 We just keep seeing better and better scores
7:31 year after year out here on the PGA Tour.
7:33 Obviously, equipment is one thing.
7:35 I know it's a very debatable topic about that, but these guys,
7:38 I mean, you got to give them credit.
7:39 They're incredible players.
7:40 They're the best in the world,
7:41 and they're going out there and showing it week after week.
7:44 Colt, uh, rumor is you took uh, Mr.
7:47 Wags down once again.
7:48 Is that is this is this correct?
7:49 This week now four and one.
7:53 I mean, it's just Shane, it it's just a beautiful thing.
7:56 He just hands out money on Fridays.
7:58 It's just so much fun going here.
8:00 I mean, I thought it was supposed to be an off day,
8:01 and it's like my most profitable day nowadays.
8:04 The man just can't handle me right now, Shane.
8:05 I know he came on here the first the he
8:08 came on here the debut episode and bragged all about it,
8:10 but you know, it's it's 4- one now on the season.
8:13 The rumor is these numbers are low, too.
8:15 I mean, it's not like you're going out and shooting even.
8:16 What are you preparing for?
8:18 Like, what's what's it what's in the sights
8:20 of cold stuff upcoming in terms of playing?
8:26 Well, I just enjoy playing going out there
8:28 with the with the fellas and chopping it up.
8:30 I think now I mean we actually do have something to look forward to.
8:33 We're hoping to possibly you know team up at the Zurich Classic
8:36 next year Wagu and I and I think it would be awesome.
8:38 Hopefully we get that chance.
8:40 But um it's just so much fun having Johnson
8:42 on the team having someone to play golf with every single Friday.
8:45 We're having a blast out there and it it
8:47 makes it even more fun when I win every time.
8:48 Yeah, Colt might be handing out pops here in the not too distant future.
8:50 Colt, I would be remiss before we let you go if I didn't get you on our leader.
8:54 There's not knowing any better,
8:55 but I feel like Alex Fitzpatrick is well aware of what he's doing right now.
8:59 fully engaged with the moment.
9:01 Where are you seeing him shine in this opportunity he's earned himself?
9:07 I mean, it's just remarkable what he has done the last few weeks.
9:10 I mean, he looks so comfortable out there all day long today.
9:13 I mean, to go from winning with his brother to playing really solid at Dal,
9:17 finishing tied for ninth, and then to follow it up this week.
9:20 I mean, this this stuff I don't think is supposed to be happening.
9:23 I mean, he was always known as Matt's brother,
9:25 and now he's making a name for himself.
9:27 Um he's he's a real talent.
9:29 It's it's a pleasure to watch him play golf.
9:31 He goes about his business in a very timely fashion,
9:33 which I like, but he's got all the shots.
9:35 Short game is remarkable.
9:37 Love watching him around the greens.
9:39 Very excited to see what tomorrow holds for him,
9:42 but um it could be another life-changing
9:44 Sunday on the PJ tour for Alex Fitzpatrick.
9:46 Cole, you know what else isn't supposed to happen?
9:48 Hole in one's on number 17th.
9:49 We haven't seen one in quite some time.
9:51 And you had to know that we were pulling this one out.
9:53 Yeah.
9:53 Yeah.
9:54 May May 15th, 2015.
9:56 [music] I'm I'm assuming somebody probably paid
9:58 him some money from this shot, too.
10:03 I mean, that's
10:04 I mean, can we just talk about though?
10:05 I mean, I'm going sound like the old guy back in my day.
10:07 227 yards.
10:09 Now they're playing it from 139.
10:11 What are we doing?
10:11 I did not love it, Colt.
10:13 I didn't love the tea today.
10:14 All day.
10:15 I was anti that tea.
10:16 Let's play it at least I I at least want to see a seven iron into 17.
10:23 I mean, these guys flick wedges into every hole
10:25 pretty much every week out here on the PGA tour.
10:27 We got a chance to stretch it out a little bit, make them hit a mid iron.
10:30 They moved it up.
10:31 They wanted some excitement.
10:32 We got it thanks to Nico Etchavaria.
10:34 Um, but yeah, you know, back in my day,
10:36 227, that's that's a [laughter] real hole.
10:38 And and little did we know that uh Colt had to walk so Tommy could run.
10:42 I love I love the the loose fitting uh slack we That's not a pant.
10:45 That's a slack.
10:46 That's new.
10:46 You see, he was ahead of his time.
10:47 That's good stuff, Colt.
10:48 We appreciate you stopping by here on Scorecard.
10:53 Got to have room to move, guys.
10:55 [laughter]
10:56 Colt nose joining us here on Scorecard from the super tower as round three
11:00 action has come to a close and man there were some shots in it.
11:02 Sanjay goes goes one-footed one shued
11:06 at number 14 to 9 ft from 1 foot to 9 ft.
11:10 Did he need the the the foot in the water was
11:12 the question we had and then he pulled that shot off.
11:14 Well, maybe that's a question we immediately pose
11:17 to our man on the ground, Johnson Wagner.
11:19 You knew you were going to get this one.
11:21 Wagu is that is a pretty up and down from Sunjm at 14 to make the three.
11:27 Johnson Wagner, I mean it's his club and we got him in one shoe.
11:31 This is this is the alltime professional here.
11:33 Johnson, take me through.
11:35 We We did ask you the question off air.
11:37 Was it even required to dip that foot in the water?
11:41 Well, I mean, you can you could sit here and sort of hood it,
11:44 but it's going to come out with a lot
11:45 of speed and probably not stay on the green surface.
11:48 So, I think to get it up and down, you definitely have to go in the water.
11:51 I have to say I had a nice cushy little thing set up on the seventh green.
11:55 Jordan speed making a putt up the hill for Eagle.
11:58 It did not involve getting in the water.
12:00 But also, I got to retaliate against Colt.
12:02 All he does all day out there on the golf course is chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp.
12:06 Tell you what he can't do is stand in the he
12:09 can't stand in this water two feet deep or he may drown.
12:12 He's so short.
12:12 So, I'm just gonna let that one live out there.
12:15 Tire that.
12:15 [cough and clears throat] So, so Sunjm had his caddy helping in.
12:20 So, I got my good friend John Patroni who's helping run player services.
12:23 I think I could make this on my own, but Oh, man.
12:26 Thank you, John.
12:27 [laughter] Uh, it's a lot deeper down here than I was expecting.
12:30 It's a lot deeper.
12:31 John John Patron is a marine.
12:33 This is actually, now that I'm down in here,
12:36 it's way more difficult than I thought it would be.
12:40 And the key to this shot,
12:41 Trevor said it on the program, when you're choking up this much,
12:44 you got to be careful not to catch your stomach
12:46 or your shirt on the on the swing with your grip.
12:48 Uh Sunjay's got a little bit less gut than I do.
12:51 So, that's something to really worry about.
12:53 And then and then also uh also it's going to come out a little bit left.
12:59 I'm just trying not to go down even though there's a couple people out here that
13:02 we saw we saw Sunj trying to get that left leg out
13:04 of the way and he then elected to get it out in front of him.
13:07 I don't know if that's a dexterity issue, but Wags looks set up nicely.
13:10 By the way, I also love that Wags is professionally talking us through the shot
13:13 while he's trying to figure out am I going to fall in the water.
13:15 [laughter] It's a little slick down here with the algae,
13:19 but this is going to pop up pretty nice.
13:21 I'm starting to feel pretty comfortable.
13:22 All right, here we go.
13:24 Oh no.
13:25 Hey, it's on the green.
13:28 No, this is not too bad.
13:31 Release.
13:31 You didn't know you'd be saying it's going
13:33 to get slick with the algae today, did you, Johnson?
13:37 That was not on the bingo card today.
13:39 That's right, Joe.
13:41 I mean, wags.
13:42 They're trying.
13:42 Oh, you want another one?
13:43 They're trying to make you hit another one.
13:44 GOT OUT OF THE WATER.
13:45 I WASN'T going to do it to I got told to do it to you.
13:47 I wasn't going to do it to you cuz you were you were out of the water here.
13:51 This is This is producing for the love of television.
13:55 Let's Let's do it this way with the foot out of the water and I'll
13:58 show you when you hood the when you when you hood the wedge this way.
14:02 And it was pretty interesting.
14:03 Cam Cameron Young laid up on this hole and I'm watching
14:07 it uh or listening to it and I thought it was crazy.
14:10 Um and he hit a wedge to a couple feet and made birdie and then when my group
14:14 came through it was down out of the left
14:15 and both guys missed it right of the green.
14:17 Rory in the bunker and Nikolai Hoyard up on the hillside.
14:20 Neither of them got it up and down for birdie.
14:22 So I think the layup was the play because as you'll see this one's going
14:25 to get hot probably through the green and leave a brutal up and down for par.
14:32 Oh that's pretty tasty there.
14:33 flags.
14:35 Yep.
14:35 But I think that's as good as I could do.
14:37 And I I think uh you had to had to get in there and sacrifice.
14:41 The worst part is now
14:43 putting the sock on after a shot like this.
14:45 You can't get it dry enough.
14:46 So So get that on camera.
14:48 You wake up today and you're all fired up.
14:50 It's going to be a great Saturday.
14:52 Your home course.
14:53 You got to walk with Rory Mack.
14:54 He's shooting 75.
14:56 You got cold no on national TV trashing your game.
14:59 And we're making you hit that shot.
15:01 I'm assuming you're looking forward to Sunday as well.
15:05 Uh, I'm looking forward to Sunday.
15:06 Looking forward to to a dinner here
15:07 at the club hosted by our club president, Johnny Harris.
15:10 And um there may be a cocktail involved.
15:12 Sh.
15:13 The toast of our town and the toast of our show as well.
15:15 Johnson Wagner.
15:16 Always appreciative of your cooperation.
15:18 Yeah, you got it on the green.
15:19 I was impressed.
15:21 Thanks, guys.
15:23 Oh, that's great stuff from Johnson.
15:25 Sunj got it up and down.
15:26 Hit that one uh to 9 ft.
15:28 Wags got it up and down.
15:29 I think we're going to we're going to let him scoop that one too,
15:31 which is becoming a bit of a theme on the show as well.
15:33 You alluded to Rory's round and we have
15:35 plenty of players between Alex Fitzpatrick and Rory Maroy,
15:38 but maybe we put Roars to bed here as it is one
15:41 more round before a PGA championship last year coming into Quail the PGA.
15:45 We were saying it's Rory's house.
15:47 He's won here four times.
15:48 This year, we're saying he's still motivated coming off the green jacket.
15:51 Are you seeing Rust?
15:52 What did you see in this day that started
15:54 with birdie and then went off the rails from there?
15:55 I think it's a day you just say occasionally in golf it kicks you.
16:00 He shot 78 in second round in Canada last year, remember?
16:02 And you're kind of going, what's going on here?
16:04 This was his highest round of the year to date.
16:07 Obviously, he's played plenty of golf this season.
16:09 I think if you're Mackaro, you go, I love this golf course.
16:11 I've played it well throughout my life.
16:13 Didn't quite get things going.
16:14 I will say and and and Johnson I know has got to go
16:17 clean his leg off but some of the misses with those short irons.
16:20 I mean driving it in play and then hitting
16:22 some real errant wedge shots that's very unrily like.
16:26 So I'm assuming that's either cleaned up tonight or tomorrow on the range.
16:29 He'll shoot 68 67 tomorrow.
16:31 Roll into the PGA.
16:32 One of the favorites but not exactly what you want to see.
16:35 But I think you can throw it out
16:36 and say occasionally even Roy Mroy has a bad day.
16:38 We talk about bounceback ability from hole to hole after a mistake.
16:41 bounce back ability from round to round.
16:43 Always interesting as these players can get it figured out
16:45 in about 45 minutes there with a small bag on the range.
16:48 We got a large bucket coming your way here on Scorecard after a quick timeout.
16:52 Cut is presented by Avis First.
16:54 You've rented before, but not like this.

17:03 [music] you'd never have to pay for airfare again.
17:10 Fortunately, your rental car is no longer something you have to think about.
17:14 Avis is [music] the world's first rental
17:16 car experience that comes with a personal
17:18 concierge who meets you at the curb for pickup and drop off.
17:23 Fly any class, drive first class.
17:26 Welcome to Avis First.
17:59 back on scorecard presented by Avis first where it's [music] nice
18:01 to have dry socks and it's nice to have this sort of leaderboard.
18:04 Alex Fitzpatrick trying to seize the moment on Sunday on CBS.
18:08 Joe Muso alongside Shane Bacon.
18:09 Shane, quite the leaderboard shaping up.
18:11 It looked like we're going to have a premier penultimate pairing before a bogey
18:15 at the last uh by Justin Thomas who gives a couple back on the way home.
18:19 But Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Thomas, Sunjm, all chasing Alex Fitzpatrick.
18:23 And we're going to show you why.
18:25 A sterling round three here
18:27 from the younger of the Fitzpatrick.
18:30 64 from the guy.
18:31 64.
18:31 Eight birdies and a bogey.
18:32 Not to spoil the movie.
18:33 You've seen it before.
18:34 or they're just highlights.
18:35 Uh par4 second from 102 and he's just dialed.
18:40 He's in full control.
18:41 The ultimate belief looks like he belongs.
18:43 I mean, and it's so funny.
18:45 We were joking, Moose, about like [music] the the kit you wear.
18:48 I mean, this isn't even like the 2026 kit he's got going right now.
18:51 This is This is the golf galaxy Nike.
18:53 Yeah.
18:53 And he and he's out there just like just ripping golf courses apart,
18:57 trying to rip souls apart.
18:58 I mean, you go on to win this and again, it's a bit of an open season right now
19:02 in terms of who's the best player in the world.
19:04 If you're Alice Fitzpatrick now,
19:06 are we at like a fitsy battle for player of the year run?
19:08 I don't want to go too macro here.
19:10 That's [music] that's absolutely a possibility with a second win or one
19:14 and a half depending on how you're you're hacking up the Zurich.
19:16 Shane, you're you're on KFT [music] coverage often.
19:18 This brings to mind like how many worldass
19:20 players never get an opportunity like this to seize.
19:23 I mean, it's and and it's becoming less.
19:25 I mean, you think about the amount of cards [music] starting last year,
19:28 you know, just 20 cards for Corn Fairy Tour players.
19:30 DP World Tour, you get cards as well.
19:32 But the opportunities with signature events and the fact
19:35 that we're trying to highlight the superstars in the game,
19:38 there are there are less than they used to be in professional golf.
19:41 And when [music] you do have an opportunity,
19:42 as we're seeing right now, you better take advantage.
19:45 It's very cool to see players given a position like this, right?
19:48 You went alongside your brother, one of the best players in the world.
19:51 That gets you to the PJ tour.
19:53 Do you just kind of miss cuts or do you finish in the top 10 every week?
19:56 Right now, Alex is doing the second.
19:57 That was birdies at 7 912.
20:00 A couple more coming home.
20:01 He was out in 30.
20:02 He shoots 64 on the day with eight birdies in total.
20:07 What does he have to take from Saturday
20:08 into Sunday to do something that he's never done alone?
20:11 I think if you are Alice Fitzpatrick tonight,
20:14 you say I've done this in my career,
20:16 but I also was the best player on Sunday at the Zurich.
20:19 He played better than his brother in all the shot.
20:20 the way he was able to go about his business
20:22 really outside of that bunker shot at the last.
20:24 It was Alex that was hitting the golf shots down the stretch.
20:26 So, if I'm Alex, I go out there and say I'm playing at a level
20:30 right now where outside of Cameron Young on the top of this leaderboard,
20:33 nobody's playing like I'm playing and I'm confident.
20:36 I I'm content.
20:37 I know what I'm able to do.
20:38 I'm also a winner this season.
20:40 I think that's another thing that's huge.
20:41 You're not going out there trying to win for the first time.
20:43 I know it's a different format,
20:44 but you already have the victory and you look at the numbers right now.
20:47 I mentioned it leading in terms of iron play around the greens has been great.
20:51 The putters top 20.
20:53 This is the recipe for not just success in terms of playing great golf.
20:56 This is the recipe [music] to get a dub.
20:58 Maybe a little bit more comfy that it'll be Alex
21:01 Fitzpatrick alongside Chris Raen rather than the biggest and baddest
21:05 in the world right now or the hottest in the world
21:08 right now in Cameron Young who will be in that penultimate pairing.
21:12 What is what is the thought process here?
21:14 Do you do you go into your bubble?
21:16 Are you hahaing?
21:17 Are you shaking hands?
21:18 I don't know the relationship between a young Raiden and a young Fitzpatrick.
21:21 I can't imagine there's too much overlap.
21:23 As [music] uh Brian Tweed says, "Look at Alex Fitzpatrick to all the haters."
21:27 This is becoming a theme for the Fitz family.
21:29 Some some shushing, some gratuitous shushing
21:31 this [laughter] season for the Fitzpatrick.
21:32 I mean, you know, I mean,
21:33 you can you can you can quote unquote hate on the guy, I mean,
21:35 all you want for the the team victory, but again,
21:37 I mean, this isn't some guy that just got an opportunity.
21:40 And I I don't want to bring hate from Dr.
21:41 Duce Sweep Brooks Kepka's brother.
21:43 But there have been opportunities in the past where you get
21:46 a start at the Zurich where maybe you didn't quite deserve that position.
21:51 That was not the case with Alex in New Orleans.
21:53 I mean, again, this guy has been a very,
21:55 very impressive player throughout his life.
21:58 Not throughout his professional career, throughout his life.
22:00 Again, top five in the amateur rankings back
22:02 in his heyday and played on two Walker Cup teams.
22:05 This dude is a superstar.
22:06 He's just now starting to play like it.
22:07 And apologies to MD Deuce Sweep there.
22:09 I believe he had him dunking on the haters.
22:11 We appreciate you guys getting in the comments on YouTube.
22:14 You You read the username and the avatar name.
22:16 I'm out on that.
22:16 Dr.
22:16 Duce, if you give me a good one, if you give me Dr.
22:18 Duce, is that is that three extra years of school?
22:21 Four extra years of school.
22:22 Yeah.
22:22 Get out there early.
22:23 Get the round in before 10.
22:24 Uh let's take a look at the round of Chris Raen who
22:27 what three weeks ago we're were trying to dig through old YouTube videos.
22:31 How do you pronounce the name?
22:32 And here we are in the final pairing.
22:34 A couple wins on the DP World Tour already.
22:36 Top 10 at Valero.
22:37 Finished T14 at Dorado again.
22:40 opportunity.
22:41 That's what Sunday is going to be all about
22:43 is an opportunity for so many of these names.
22:44 An opportunity for Cameron Young, [music] who we'll watch here in a bit,
22:47 to really solidify yourself as the best player in the world
22:49 right now in the new Scotty Sheffler in 2026.
22:52 For these two players, an opportunity to potentially change your life.
22:56 What a round of golf today.
22:57 Yeah.
22:57 Pronunciation like the golf swing.
22:59 Sometimes [music] shorter is better.
23:00 We're just going We're getting right to it.
23:02 Just knock down sixiron.
23:04 What did you What did announcers used to do without YouTube?
23:08 Did they just mispronounce it?
23:09 Work hard.
23:09 I don't know.
23:10 Yeah, call him.
23:11 I don't understand.
23:12 That would be more of a question for you, my friend.
23:13 Cameron, I'm on the YouTubes all the time.
23:16 Cameron Young has all the answers to the questions [music] right now.
23:19 Looking to stay hot.
23:19 That's a Eagle bid at the par 57.
23:22 He stand over a putt and you expect it not to go [music] in.
23:25 He's getting to that level right now.
23:27 And we'll look at some numbers coming out of it.
23:29 The putter, as we've [music] detailed over this last month or so,
23:32 has been the reason for his elevation.
23:34 But the ball striking is what's getting him
23:35 those opportunities to make these types of putts.
23:38 Sick.
23:38 every one of them in the middle.
23:40 You love the glove, too.
23:41 I I love he's he's a glove under the belt guy, not a glove in the pocket guy.
23:45 Got to be good at golf to do that.
23:46 Big time, Ste.
23:47 [music] I mean, you got players in the field.
23:48 You got Raiden taping his wrist to look like Cameron Young.
23:52 You got you got JT essentially going into into the Scotty truck and saying,
23:56 "Make me make me the
23:57 Whatever that guy is using, I want to use."
23:59 Going to be someone in the woods trying to grow a beard like
24:02 pro golfers are such limmings [music] in the sense
24:04 that if it works for somebody, they will do it.
24:07 And this putter thing, I mean, we've seen it with the spider.
24:09 You think about the Jailbird putter a couple years ago.
24:12 [music] Obviously, when Clark winning that US Open,
24:14 Ricky, I think, was in in that early.
24:16 A lot of pros go [music] into that putter.
24:18 And I think this guy's the next step in terms of what
24:20 people are going to use because he's having such success with [music] it.
24:23 You know, a guy's going good when he's
24:25 getting the early and often worm cam treatment.
24:28 I mean, they're they're getting cameras behind this guy.
24:30 Cuts are rolling [music] in.
24:32 3132 for another low low round out of Cameron Young.
24:36 The ability to stack up this type of play, not just four rounds in a row,
24:40 but four starts in a row is something very impressive by Cameron Young.
24:43 Yeah, I mean, you think about a real opportunity right now
24:46 at this point in this in a season to have a players victory,
24:48 a green jacket, and now potentially two other signature wins.
24:52 I mean, you are talking about potentially solidifying you
24:54 as the best player this season with a victory come tomorrow.
24:57 And he's in a real position to do so.
24:59 I really think about this stuff because this is
25:01 the leg legacy stuff you and I love to talk about
25:03 not just in golf but in sport [music] is what
25:05 can you do in terms of building on your legacy.
25:08 He's doing that with his game.
25:10 He's doing that with the putter.
25:10 He's doing that with the iron play.
25:12 And the iron play in terms of his short
25:14 iron approaches over the last year has really improved.
25:17 I mean dramatically improved.
25:19 Then he's gone you see here [music] in 2025 being so so again we
25:23 talked so much about the putter and a shout out Justin Ray who does
25:25 such an amazing job on Twitter and beyond with stats but approach 129
25:30 to 19 top 20 [music] now greens in rag 160th last season you're now one
25:35 of the best in the world and now you're kind of coupling
25:37 that with the putter it feels like what
25:39 we saw with Scotty Scotty best iron player
25:41 in the world the last three years all of a sudden you're a top
25:43 20 putter in the world you're going to win a lot when you're doing that
25:45 I'm glad you bring up the Scotty parallel because when
25:47 you look at the stat profile octagon or no what is
25:50 it a pentagon if you will on data golf I
25:53 got to text my son I don't know shapes that well
25:55 I don't know if the putter feeds into other things I guess
25:58 I'm asking you the question is there an aspect of the game
26:01 that allows players to elevate their level elsewhere as well is that just
26:05 is that a ball striking world that we live in right now
26:07 I I I think when you're putting well it makes golf so
26:09 much easier because again I think it frees you up not just
26:12 to to play aggressive but I think it it allows your brain
26:15 to understand that you're allowed mis hits and bad golf shots shots.
26:18 You don't have to hit every shot perfect.
26:20 And I think on the other end of it, when you're putting poorly,
26:22 it makes everything feel so stressful because you understand you've got
26:26 to hit greens regulation or you're going to make a bokege.
26:28 So, I think when you're putting well outside of everything,
26:31 driving it well, great iron play.
26:32 I think it frees up everything in your game to where
26:35 all of a sudden you understand I'm not shooting over par.
26:37 If I'm making everything inside 8 ft,
26:39 I'm never shooting over par because I'm such a good ball striker.
26:42 Now, it allows me to go out there and think sub 65 no matter the golf course.
26:46 The year of Cameron Young.
26:47 Cameron Young is him.
26:49 Before we get to others, I want one more here on Cam because you get
26:52 to a certain point when the success be gets more success.
26:56 Is Cam Young a name now that other players look at on a leader?
26:59 Is he a guy who steals oxygen from a room yet?
27:01 I I don't think so yet.
27:03 I I think he under people understand how talented he is.
27:05 And I think you look at a Rory Mackoy,
27:07 you think about the shot he hit at 12 alongside Rory and the thumbs up.
27:10 Like I love that level of respect because
27:12 it's obviously a great player who doesn't break
27:15 his his basically approach come Sunday at a major
27:18 championship saying to a peer great shot,
27:21 you know, you hit it on your number, you hit it on your line.
27:23 But I don't think we're quite to a point where everybody's going,
27:25 "Oh god, this guy's going to win and we're running away from him." Now,
27:27 if he goes on to win this week,
27:29 there's going to be some noise around him come next week.
27:31 People are going to understand he has a great chance to win a PJ championship.
27:34 But I don't think we're there yet.
27:36 And I honestly, not to bring up Scott, he's not playing this week.
27:39 But I think the the the three wins from the other
27:41 guys over Scotty makes them feel more confident as well.
27:45 A threetime winner on the PGA Tour, Cameron Young.
27:48 When you look at the top eight players within five shots on this leaderboard,
27:52 25 career wins in total.
27:54 16 of them belong to one man and that is
27:56 Justin Thomas who hasn't seen one go in for a while.
27:59 Saw a bunch of them go in here on Saturday.
28:00 [music] But then Shane sort of hit the skids coming home.
28:03 Oh yeah.
28:03 I mean it was dirty early.
28:05 This stuff is so good from JT.
28:06 [music] his hands around the greens.
28:08 My favorite guy in the world to watch hit short game shots is Justin Thomas
28:13 because of the speed of his arms and then this putt what you playing this what
28:18 four feet out.
28:19 I like I like when a when someone on a bag
28:21 says I need this [music] coming in at 9:00.
28:24 Yeah.
28:24 I mean he makes bogey at 14 bogey at 16.
28:26 Bogey at 18.
28:27 Killer [music] finish for a guy that was making a run.
28:30 Probably a stepping stone day in a week for JT with that finish.
28:33 probably not going to go on to win unless he fires something dirty low.
28:36 But I think an important week,
28:38 an important for him tomorrow to go out
28:39 there and shoot at least a respectable underpar score,
28:42 finish in the top five.
28:43 Put yourself in a position.
28:44 We know he's been so good at the PJ championship in the past.
28:47 The 2017 and 2022 winner of the PGA Championship,
28:50 it's sort of sort of JT season right now.
28:53 And if he finds himself on form following a another nice round on Sunday,
28:58 I think he's a big conversation,
28:59 a big topic of conversation heading into Aronom.
29:02 But I I want to look at the scorecard one more time if we can.
29:05 Shout out to shout out to the name brand.
29:06 Um it it was a it was a frustrating finish,
29:09 I'm sure, for JT, but also for JT fans.
29:12 And I and I will forever raise my hand as a JT fan.
29:16 A problem at 14.
29:17 And it felt like he allowed that to bleed
29:20 into more problems at 16 and then at [music] 18.
29:23 Yeah.
29:23 Left off the tea in 14, hits it in the water,
29:25 makes bogey on a hole you just can't bogey.
29:26 I mean, that's a birdie hole.
29:27 You circle that every round.
29:29 Every time you're playing Quill Hall, you're thinking, I'm making birdie at 14.
29:32 And and I think you're right.
29:33 I think that starts to bleed into now Preston a little bit.
29:37 Makes the bogey at 16, then the T- shot at 18, [music] right?
29:40 So, you're kind of missing it both ways off the tea.
29:42 Not my favorite thing to see from guys,
29:44 especially somebody like JT who in the past has struggled with the driving.
29:48 The putter really the problem this season if you think about it.
29:51 But if you're Justin Thomas, I think again this probably isn't a win week,
29:54 but you are trying to build towards something that does look like a run.
29:58 Not just a great week, but a run.
29:59 We'd like to see JT kind of get back on a run.
30:01 He's in a nice pack there at nine under
30:03 Fleetwood Thomas and JJ Spawn representing your nine under par.
30:07 Should we do the Rory thing?
30:08 Yeah.
30:08 Yeah, let's do it.
30:08 Let's do the Rory thing to the highlights.
30:11 Rory [music] started out.
30:12 Was there any highlights?
30:13 What are we showing?
30:14 The first hole.
30:15 I mean, yeah, we got a highlight of this guy
30:17 coming off a Friday,
30:18 as you've alluded to, at a place he's so [music] comfortable at.
30:21 It looked like after this birdie at the first, I got him scroll.
30:24 I'm still scrolling to find where he's at on the leaderboard.
30:27 The the Rory coming memes [music] were were on the way.
30:30 He was he was on his way.
30:31 A birdie at the first.
30:33 You know, Wags brought it up, dude.
30:34 Never birdie the first one.
30:35 I don't prescri I [music] give me him wherever I can get him.
30:37 Can't birdie one.
30:38 Can't birdie one.
30:39 That's good golfers.
30:40 That's a good golfer problem [music] that they can't birdie one.
30:43 uh at the par three fourth he gives
30:45 it back drops back [music] the five under par.
30:47 Then at the sixth another par bid from range so not striking
30:51 it close and [music] not necessarily giving himself easy par looks either.
30:55 Missed a good a good par putt on the 18th on Friday.
30:59 So you kind of look at that mis putt [music] and then some mis putts early.
31:02 He was all over the place.
31:03 This was so unrou like around this golf course.
31:06 I mean he plays great everywhere but this golf
31:08 [music] course this is the place he shines.
31:11 I mean, he was he was errant with the driver and the irons and the short irons.
31:14 Missed a lot of [music] putts.
31:16 Two birdies on the day, one of at the par five.
31:18 It was ugly.
31:19 75 for Mroy.
31:20 Four four straight squares.
31:22 That's not something you see from Rory,
31:23 whether he's out [music] of form or or in practice.
31:27 But a year ago, it was one Rory coming out of the Masters.
31:30 He has vowed to us that it's a different
31:32 Rory attacking the remainder of this season and beyond.
31:35 What do you need to see on Sunday
31:37 to feel good about Rory heading into a PGA championship?
31:40 I'll look at the iron play.
31:41 I mean I mean you got to hit your irons
31:42 great at a major championship to contend and to win.
31:44 I'm going to look at his iron play because it was yucky today.
31:47 Any other words you could think of to describe the the the iron play?
31:50 Gross.
31:50 Nasty.
31:51 Disgusting.
31:53 Human.
31:52 Send it back at a restaurant.
31:54 Send it.
31:54 Yeah.
31:55 You get the AIS rental car and like you
31:57 pull out and they didn't fill the gas tank up.
31:58 You go, "Hey guys, we got a you got
32:00 a refill for me." That was the round of golf.
32:02 Can you can you any upgrades?
32:03 Yeah.
32:03 You got anything closer to the front?
32:05 Yeah.
32:05 I'll take a BMW, Mercedes.
32:07 I'll take a Cadillac.
32:07 Whatever you guys got.
32:08 I mean, again, I think if you're Rory tonight,
32:10 you probably already forgot about the round at this point.
32:13 If you're watching the show and you're Rory, you're going,
32:15 "These two guys are idiots." Like, I'm not worried about myself.
32:17 I'm going to go out tomorrow and fire something good.
32:19 But I'm going to look at the iron play.
32:20 Iron play has got to get better if he wants to contend next week.
32:24 All right, I'm going to I'm going to make a proclamation here.
32:26 Obviously, not going to win.
32:27 He's sitting at one underpar.
32:28 He's 13 back.
32:29 Round of the day tomorrow belongs to Rory M.
32:31 We're going to be we're going to be hyped on Rory heading toward.
32:34 Anybody else on this leaderboard, top 10 or even further down the board,
32:38 have your attention, maybe not for win share,
32:40 but to do exactly what we just said for Rory Moy,
32:42 serve as springboard to another massive moment next week on CBS.
32:45 Kind of look at Tommy Fleetwood a bit.
32:47 I'm very interested in what Tommy can do tomorrow.
32:49 Very interested to see what Tommy can do next week.
32:51 I think I'm looking still at him at the US Open Shikok Hills,
32:54 a place he place he came so close
32:55 a few years ago to win that major championship.
32:57 But I think Tommy's the type of player that that tends
33:00 to find himself in the hunt at a major.
33:02 I'd love to see Tommy put together another good round tomorrow.
33:04 Kind of play himself into Ronomic with some momentum.
33:07 I think he's kind of the name I'm looking at.
33:09 Credit to our reigning tour champion.
33:12 Can't take that away from him.
33:13 Still lacking.
33:14 You truly can't take it away.
33:15 Still lacking.
33:16 What I can say though, still lacking a full field win.
33:19 And yes, this is a signature event with a smaller field as well.
33:22 Full field event.
33:23 I think PGA Ch I mean that's the biggest field we're
33:26 going to see this season if I'm not mistaken the PGA Championship.
33:29 So I'm not I'm not sure how that projects for Tommy.
33:31 And Blocky's in the field.
33:32 So Tommy's never beaten never beaten Blocky to win a golf tournament.
33:36 Who are you looking at outside of kind of the names
33:37 we've talked I'm I'm looking at our leaderboard right now uh over
33:40 your shoulder and I'm seeing JJ Spawn looking back at me
33:44 and maybe it's because maybe it's because you just said US Open and
33:47 I was disappointed by the start to the season
33:49 for JJ Spawn after what last year meant to him
33:52 from from a broad career standpoint.
33:55 Last couple weeks we've seen him rounding back into form.
33:58 I'm very interested to see what JJ Spawn can do Sunday
34:02 at a big brrawy golf course where despite his his shorter stature,
34:06 he finds himself maybe the most comfortable at golf courses like this
34:10 and second right now in putting this week.
34:12 JJ Spawn.
34:13 Now, you think about JJ how bad he was to start the year with putting.
34:16 You're talking like bottom 20 on the PJ tour with the flat stick.
34:20 I think of JJ Spawn is hitting it like he hits it and rolling it like this.
34:24 I think JJ Spawn is in my very short list
34:28 of that PGA US Open run to pick up one of those two.
34:33 I might pick JJ next week.
34:34 Lab Lab Boys in the building.
34:35 I might pick J.
34:36 Talk about fads.
34:37 I had I don't think Have I picked somebody to win the PJ yet?
34:40 You had to have somewhere
34:41 on one of the showcard podcast on on one of the many.
34:45 I think I might pick JJ Spawn to win the P.
34:46 Well, this is like you said last week here on Scorecard.
34:48 You probably made a pick for the 2026 PGA at sometime in 2024.
34:53 That's We can't hold you to it,
34:54 but you're you're leaning towards JJ for a PGA pick.
34:57 I like that.
34:57 I I might I haven't It's not official, but I like them.
35:00 Okay.
35:00 I don't want to disrespect Nikolai Hoyard or Chris Raen.
35:03 What are their roles in tomorrow's narrative?
35:05 I mean, a chance to win.
35:06 Again, I talk about opportunity, big opportunity for those guys.
35:09 I mean, you you go out there and and get this done and that does wonders
35:12 for who you are as a professional golfer and who you are as a PJ tour player.
35:16 You beat this list of names.
35:17 I mean, Rory's not there, Scotty's not here,
35:20 Bryson's not here, and John Rom's not here,
35:22 but this is a huge field with a very impressive leaderboard,
35:26 and this changes what you think about yourself if you get the victory.
35:29 We checked the Sunj box already with our shot recreation by Johnson.
35:33 We went one-footed.
35:34 It's a great up.
35:35 By the way, he did the he did the one foot
35:37 up and down and then just the blade into the grand.
35:39 I'm not going back over there.
35:40 Yeah, you're you're you're getting one from dry land.
35:42 Uh, our guy Wag said we'll see what Sunjay can do on Sunday as well.
35:46 But, uh, it was a psycho scorecard day for one and and you know,
35:50 we like to find one.
35:51 We like to like to offer Shane Bacon a spot for, you know, his brand here.
35:56 Listen, this this is like this is at 6:00 p.m.
35:58 If you're home with the kids, you realize you don't have anything for dinner
36:01 and you get the rotisserie chicken with the like
36:03 the Greek salad from Whole Foods and you go, "That's dinner." That's perfect.
36:07 Not the best psycho scorecard, but the back nine was great.
36:10 The last par [music] of his day 11.
36:11 You said something earlier.
36:13 This isn't a golf course that's going to produce a lot of others.
36:16 You're going to you're going to get plenty of bogeies.
36:17 Make a lot of bogeies.
36:18 Not a ton of doubles and triples out there at Quail Hollow for this field.
36:21 Why is that?
36:22 Well, I mean, you can find water, but I think it's a good recovery golf course.
36:25 I think you can get Aaron off the tea and you can make a number.
36:27 But I think for the most part, think about 18.
36:29 Even as difficult as 18 is, hit it left in the water.
36:32 You can take the drop, you can hit on the green, you can two putt away.
36:34 17 much of the same.
36:35 You even do it at 14.
36:36 You have an opportunity to say par 14 if you find the water.
36:38 So, I think it's a place where it's easy to trip,
36:41 but it's a little tougher to fall.
36:43 Apparently easy to make a one as well.
36:44 We had another one of those ones.
36:46 Another one on 17.
36:48 You didn't You didn't love the tea up here, huh?
36:50 I don't know.
36:50 You didn't You didn't love [music] the tea all the way up.
36:52 Oh, I hated this.
36:53 You love one though.
36:57 Shot.
36:57 You don't like the one hitting three iron in
36:59 one with an asterisk.
37:01 No, don't move the T up.
37:03 He was fired up though.
37:04 No matter the asterisk, I want the blanche one.
37:08 Tallium [music] for a one.
37:09 You want the blanche one.
37:10 Back on scorecard after a quick timeout.
37:16 If you had a dollar for everything you had to worry about while traveling,
37:20 [music] you'd never have to pay for airfare again.
37:27 Fortunately, your rental car is no longer something you have to think about.
37:31 Avis First is the world's first rental car experience [music] that comes
37:35 with a personal concierge who meets you at the curb for pickup and drop off.
37:40 Fly any class, drive first class.
37:43 Welcome to Avis First.
38:17 No pictures on the scorecard, but plenty of pictures of Johnson Wagner
38:20 because he's always down for a good time.
38:22 Wags with one foot in the water.
38:24 I gotta say if I'm giving it out of 10, that's that's a seven out of 10.
38:28 That's an eight out of 10.
38:29 I I go higher.
38:29 B+.
38:30 We did have some post round thoughts from Johnson.
38:34 Johnson, what are you doing there?
38:36 Uh trying to get my foot dry to get this sock on.
38:38 I don't know that I'll ever get this sock back on.
38:40 It's already sweaty and it's a compression sock.
38:46 No media.
38:49 Yeah.
38:49 No, no media, please.
38:50 A compression sock.
38:51 I'll I'll I'll I'll call my son after the round.
38:54 That [laughter] That's a man who knows he's walking and working.
38:57 Uh Johnson, he's got a he's got a locker
38:59 at the joint and we're making him take his shoes.
39:01 Let me tell you this right now.
39:01 He hit that shot about 18 minutes ago
39:03 and he is on cocktail number two in the clubhouse.
39:05 I can promise you that if I know anything about the guy,
39:08 uh well known and celebrated at the club at Quail Hollow.
39:10 Johnson Wagner, we appreciate you as always.
39:13 It's time now for your drive of the day presented by Avis First.
39:16 You've rented before, but not like this.
39:18 Shane, I'd say you've hit it before, but not like this.
39:20 But you you do 323.
39:22 You got 323
39:24 downwind downhill.
39:25 Line up the first is ridiculous.
39:27 We thought it was a sign of things to come.
39:28 It should have been the Rory highlight.
39:30 It was just this shot and that's it.
39:31 And then it should have cut off.
39:32 I still I [music] still love our technology.
39:34 I mean, nobody does.
39:35 Nobody does Tracers like golf on CBS.
39:38 Rory, not the day he wanted, but uh he is your drive of the day.
39:42 Presented by Avis.
39:44 That was that us like to give a little flowers to Rory.
39:46 Is that why we did that?
39:46 By the way, did we get two sponsors off the top of that of of this hit?
39:49 I think we did.
39:50 I'm pretty impressed.
39:51 We are also contractually bound.
39:52 Rory and Scotty in the field, multiple blocks.
39:55 [laughter] Yeah, that's what we do.
39:57 They're the stars, guys.
39:57 They are the stars.
39:58 They are part of the conversation.
39:59 A part of the conversation for the wrong reason uh here on Saturday.
40:03 We'll see what Rory has in the bag on Sunday.
40:05 I want to get some other names into the mix,
40:07 maybe ones we've touched upon before.
40:08 Shane, we're gonna call this par five.
40:10 I'm gonna throw five names at you.
40:12 Unprepared Shane Bacon right now.
40:14 I want you to give me a bullet point on each.
40:16 Whether that's what you saw on Saturday, what you expect on Sunday,
40:19 or projecting towards the remainder of our major championship season.
40:22 I'm starting you off number one on our par five, Chris Godup.
40:26 Grder played great today.
40:27 Good to see I think as well.
40:29 I mean, obviously got off to that incredible start.
40:31 I mean, what do you shoot?
40:32 65 today.
40:33 I mean, that's the stuff I like to see.
40:35 Again, you think about this season and the last
40:37 few years that belong to to Scotty.
40:39 Feels kind of like that next up run right now in professional golf.
40:43 Is it Cameron Young?
40:44 Is it God up?
40:44 Could it be Alex Fitzpatrick with the way he's playing?
40:47 Could it be Matt kind of coming back to form?
40:49 Matt still a very young player in terms
40:51 of being a pro and having longevity ahead of him.
40:53 And I think God is one of those players that
40:56 the way he played earlier this season,
40:57 we were looking at like this guy's a major threat.
40:59 Yeah, he's still a major threat.
41:00 We've done glove talk already.
41:02 Chris got up, another topic, dour of the, you know, he leaves the glove open.
41:06 He, no one's told him he's not a cadet medium.
41:08 He can size up and close that thing down.
41:10 Yeah.
41:10 I mean, baseball, we used to do that.
41:12 Yeah, you would do the Nar gloves open, but I don't see it in golf that often.
41:16 But I do love little weird quirks in golf.
41:19 That's that's another reason I love Chris Garup.
41:20 He's doing it his own way.
41:21 The golf swing, his whole swing.
41:22 By the way, I've done the got her up lately.
41:24 Way I'm way open now with the swing.
41:28 Okay.
41:27 So, I'm now I I get closed with my feet.
41:30 Okay.
41:30 And I've decided every golf shot I'm just going full got herd up.
41:33 I mean, my feet are at I'm a lefty.
41:35 My feet are at like 3:00 on the clock right now.
41:37 Shane, you said you didn't want you didn't want your golf on the show.
41:40 You you you've opened the door for us.
41:42 I'm just saying you've opened the door for us.
41:43 Uh let's keep it rolling here on our par five.
41:45 I wrote down Fitz and and we now live
41:47 in a world where I don't know what that means.
41:49 I believe it's Matthew Fitzpatrick.
41:51 He's watching his brother Alex Fitzpatrick try and do his thing on Sunday.
41:54 What comes to mind when you think Matt Fitzpatrick?
41:56 I mean, I think pride is probably the thing that comes to mind right now.
41:59 The fact that you were able to hit
42:00 that shot to pull off the victory for your brother.
42:03 I said it going into Sunday.
42:05 I thought at the Zurich Matt was going to be
42:06 more nervous than Alex because Matt has won before.
42:09 Matt has won major championship before.
42:10 He's played RDER Cups before,
42:12 but he was trying to do something for his brother
42:14 and give his brother an opportunity eight months,
42:16 nine months earlier that he was probably going to do it himself.
42:19 I'm assuming he's watching this going, "This is awesome.
42:22 This is great." And I hope Alex continues to do what
42:24 he's been doing over the last few weeks because if he does,
42:27 he'll pick up that lone victory outside of the Zurich.
42:29 And I apologize.
42:30 I believe I I just Gilmore.
42:31 Didn't I say your name?
42:32 No.
42:32 Better not next year is in the field.
42:34 Bounce back just watching his brother do his thing.
42:36 Yeah, Alex, by the way, Alex has beaten his brother before in big events.
42:39 Back in 2023, got into the Open via qualifying, the Open Championship.
42:43 Alex finished top 20.
42:45 Matt did not.
42:46 I
42:46 I think I might demand points on his career earning at least
42:49 his earnings for the remainder of the season if I'm if I'm Matt.
42:52 It's like
42:53 I know I'm doing good, too, but but break me off with 10%.
42:56 You saw that bunker shot of the Zurich.
42:57 Seven and a half%.
42:58 You're not here.
42:59 See how that goes.
42:59 You're not here without that bunker shot.
43:00 Send me that Vinmo.
43:02 All right.
43:02 Third on our par five.
43:04 Interesting one here.
43:04 Ludvig Oberg.
43:06 Yeah.
43:06 I mean, again, I think we're just waiting for him to buck a bit.
43:09 You talk about next up, and he was the next up guy, right?
43:12 He was kind of the out of college,
43:14 he's going to be the dude that's going to get it done.
43:16 And I think over the last year,
43:18 we've been a bit confused what we've seen from him.
43:20 He he's had moments.
43:21 He's shined at events and played solid golf,
43:24 but there's a little too much inconsistency right now
43:26 with his ability to just play four rounds solidly.
43:29 That's the thing you hear a lot of the time from guys.
43:31 Talked to Matt McCarti last week.
43:33 He said that's what he's been focusing on.
43:35 talked to Mark Hubber today and he said a big part
43:37 of this has been trying to put together four good rounds.
43:39 Even if you don't win, I want to see the consistency for Ludvig right now.
43:43 That to me is probably the main focus of his game.
43:46 Can I play four good rounds?
43:47 Can I play four consistent rounds where my game
43:49 looks a little like it did out of college?
43:51 Matter of time, but time is of the essence.
43:53 There seems to be sustainability in the swing,
43:55 but we want to see it fourth on our par five.
43:58 This is like out of the bunker.
44:00 Yeah.
44:00 Yeah.
44:00 The wedge wasn't great.
44:01 Yeah, we got to hit one close here.
44:02 get it up and down,
44:03 which has been an issue the last two weeks for this man.
44:04 Not as much this week as last.
44:06 Vroom vroom.
44:06 Justin Rose.
44:08 Yeah.
44:08 I mean,
44:10 did the vroom vroom throw you?
44:11 I apologize.
44:12 No, I just [laughter] I mean, listen, I didn't love the tea today at 17.
44:15 I don't love the club change in the middle
44:17 of the season when you're playing this level of golf
44:20 knowing you're going into a run of majors
44:21 that you're you could have a chance to contend at.
44:23 He's had great success this part of the world in terms of golf tournaments.
44:26 I just don't like this change.
44:28 Maybe he can prove us wrong, but again,
44:30 I think to me, anything you could do, this is this sport
44:34 is is so minute in terms of what
44:36 you're able to do successfully or insuccessfully.
44:38 And you think about guys that miss cuts at times.
44:40 They talk about is a putt here, putt there,
44:42 and I feel like I I shot 65 and I shot 72.
44:45 This just feels like you're putting yourself
44:47 in a position to not continue to play consistent.
44:49 Points on a project.
44:50 I I demanded in the Fitzpatrick household.
44:53 Points on this McLaren project could also be
44:55 something that that sways you to some new sticks.
44:58 man.
44:59 Yeah.
44:58 I mean, I know Rich is
45:00 720 is a good looking It's a good looking car.
45:02 No, I I mean, listen, if you want to send us a McLaren,
45:04 I mean, you'll probably play the Irons, but I I'm just telling you that.
45:07 But to me, my camera McLaren McLaren, give it McLaren.
45:12 I'll play the Iron.
45:13 Yeah, he'll play him.
45:13 He'll play him.
45:14 He'll wear the carry the bag.
45:16 He'll wear all orange.
45:17 I love the I love the I love the the staff bag.
45:20 McLaren.
45:21 He's in right here.
45:22 He's in right here.
45:23 He's in.
45:23 Right.
45:23 Look right here.
45:24 Um Shane, we need to make this putt here.
45:26 Par five.
45:27 I need to make a par.
45:28 Hideki Matsyama.
45:30 Oh, we showed the psycho scorecard the other night.
45:32 Uh not going to win the PGA.
45:33 Okay.
45:34 He's already off the list.
45:35 Um been very inconsistent this season as well.
45:37 I think started the year and we were all kind of looking at him going he might
45:40 get another green jacket and now we're starting
45:42 to see the Hideki from a couple years ago.
45:44 It just would be some good and not so good.
45:46 And you even think about last year right out of the gates what she 31 under.
45:51 Yeah.
45:50 And then didn't have another top 10 the rest of the year.
45:52 Feels kind of like we're going in that direction
45:54 versus finding form from Hideki right now.
45:58 Yeah.
45:58 Trying to bookend it.
45:59 Hideki last year after tournament of champions.
46:03 Did he did he buck late?
46:04 I'm trying to remember.
46:05 I thought he bookended it if I'm not mistaken.
46:07 I don't remember what I had for lunch.
46:09 High variance right now.
46:09 Hideki Matsyama.
46:11 Seems to be the case for one other as well.
46:13 Uh I want to take a look at another event on the PGA tour.
46:16 The one flight down in Myrtle Beach.
46:18 And we have one [music] focus.
46:19 Have you been to Myrtle Beach before?
46:20 At the one flight.
46:21 I have I have been to Myrtle Beach as a young man.
46:24 Myrtle Beach is great.
46:25 Yeah.
46:25 Isn't it [music] like the most golf
46:26 courses per square foot or something like that?
46:29 Wild claims.
46:30 Potentially another establishment as well.
46:32 Um also the the the best episode of No Laying Up in the history of No Laying Up.
46:36 Shout out on YouTube when they did
46:37 the Strapped episode where they went to Myrtle Beach.
46:39 But [music] um this is fun.
46:41 I want to give a humongous shout out to Brooks Cup.
46:43 Mhm.
46:44 He has been given this opportunity to come back to the PGA
46:47 Tour [music] and obviously there was direction for Brooks to play
46:50 in events that weren't the signature events cuz he wasn't going to get
46:53 into him unless he qualified and he has taken it in stride
46:56 has not complained answered questions done press after [music] and now
47:00 we're seeing seeing Brooks play the level of golf I think we
47:03 expected to see at some point in this era of Brooks Kefka
47:07 [music] and you talk about majors man you know Brooks at PGA's
47:12 I mean what ninetime winner [music] on the PGA Tour if I'm not mistaken.
47:16 Five are majors.
47:17 Five are majors and have come in this part of the schedule.
47:20 I said it's JT season.
47:21 It's Brooks season and and needs and needs to [music] play well headed in.
47:24 Of the three PGAs, take you back to 2018.
47:27 Finished fifth the week [music] before 2019.
47:30 Finished fourth the week before headed into that PGA championship.
47:33 2023 when he was on live a third and a T5.
47:37 Let's hear from Brooks Brooks post round.
47:40 That's the most excited I've been playing golf in a long long time.
47:42 I can tell you that much.
47:43 It's It's I would say back till 23 the PGA.
47:50 Um that's the most It's been a long time since I've had fun playing golf.
47:53 I've been at least uh pie at least a year.
47:55 I've been very I was very frustrated last year.
47:58 Just um just wasn't in a good place.
48:00 But I think a lot of times when you It's like anybody, right?
48:04 If they're happy off the golf course,
48:07 um they're going to play well on the golf course.
48:10 And I think that's a huge huge piece of it.
48:12 And I've kind of I've found that refound my happiness,
48:15 my love my love for the game.
48:17 It's been all the pieces are connected.
48:19 It's just now I just got to go out and go go play.
48:24 I mean, you got to be happy for the guy.
48:25 He's playing some good golf.
48:26 Comes home in 29 and Yeah.
48:29 How about that?
48:29 That's that's outstanding golf.
48:31 I want to ask you this because it feels like and I applaud him for it.
48:35 This road back has been a big slice of humble pie for for Brooks Kepka,
48:39 but the humility that it's going to take to get
48:41 him back to full-time on the PGA Tour relative
48:44 to the hubris it's going to take to get him
48:46 back to the winner circle cuz when I think of Brooks,
48:48 I think mock neck with his chest out walking
48:51 up the hill to go win another PGA championship.
48:54 Do you think he's going to have to sort of kick that gear
48:57 back in at a certain point when he is in striking distance?
49:00 I think that sounded to you I hear what you're saying,
49:03 but I think that has sounded what he just talked about
49:06 a little bit of what we've heard from Brooks in the past.
49:08 Brooks has never been scared to be vulnerable.
49:10 I mean, you think about moments on full
49:12 swing when he talked about his career and some
49:14 of the struggles he's dealt with in terms
49:16 of being a professional golfer in the limelight.
49:18 He doesn't shy away from that, I think, away from the golf course.
49:20 I think your point is on the golf course,
49:22 he's always been kind of the macho guy that walks
49:24 around understanding he's the baddest dude on the golf course.
49:26 I think we are inching towards that.
49:28 I think him having more fun on the golf course helps.
49:30 And I think getting in contention is going to help as well.
49:32 I think the next step for Brooks, even if he gets this victory,
49:35 is finding himself in contention once again in a major championship.
49:37 Cuz to me, that's when Brooks starts to fly.
49:39 I mean, you think about the the win in 2023,
49:42 had an opportunity at the Masters, right?
49:44 And didn't play great in on the final round and said,
49:46 "I I learned something about myself,
49:47 wins the very next major championship." I think Brooks is
49:49 in a place right now where when golf is more fun for him,
49:52 he can be a little more himself.
49:54 And I think when he's himself, he's the guy you're talking about.
49:57 The reason that he left was a lack of belief in his game.
50:00 The reason he is climbing back, it feels like,
50:03 is that internal belief is back alive for Brooks Gala.
50:06 If I was going to ask you like,
50:08 give me your best possible scenarios at the PGA next week.
50:11 I'm assuming Spit's probably won.
50:13 Spe Yeah.
50:13 A final a final pairing of I I I said
50:18 just give me all the give me all the PGA guys.
50:20 Give me Justin Thomas in the mix.
50:22 Give me Brooks Kepka in the mix.
50:23 And give me the guy who needs it for the slam, Jordan Speed.
50:25 I don't know if I'm like trying to live in 2017 if that's like I'm
50:28 trying to just go back to to [laughter]
50:30 a younger a younger time in my Sacramento.
50:33 That was that was late that was late sack town.
50:35 Um a lot of a lot of Napa Napa.
50:38 Yeah.
50:38 Um but I just think about Brooks right after Rory gets to six.
50:43 Yeah.
50:43 Brooks picks up the very next one and matches him.
50:45 Gets a win at a major.
50:47 Becomes the Brooks Kepka that we all have kind of known and loved or not loved.
50:51 I mean, I think that's what's great about Brooks is I think the fact that he
50:54 does rub people at times the wrong way
50:56 and he understands that's part of who he is.
50:58 And our modern era major champions post Tiger.
51:00 It's really been the Rory versus Brooks race.
51:03 Brooks gets to five with Rory on four.
51:06 Now Rory clips backtoback Masters.
51:08 He sits on six.
51:09 Brooks, it's your turn.
51:10 And then where do you go?
51:11 You go to US Open where the last time we were at Shinock.
51:13 You know who won there?
51:14 Mr.
51:15 Brooks Ka.
51:15 Not bad.
51:16 Uh let's get to the winner circle.
51:18 Back on our main event, CBS and Paramount Plus coming your way on Sunday,
51:22 the final round of the truest.
51:23 Who wins and why?
51:24 I'll take Alex.
51:25 I just think iron play has been superb.
51:27 He's been the best in the field with the irons this week.
51:29 I think he's going to continue the run.
51:31 I think playing in that final pairing
51:32 to your point is going to be comfortable for him.
51:35 And I think he's in a position right now to where
51:37 if he can go out and knock down flagst sticks,
51:39 make the birdies on the par fives, take advantage of those holes,
51:42 and do what he's doing the best of anybody in the field right now,
51:45 I think he picks up the victory.
51:46 I'm going to ride the heater with Cameron Young.
51:48 He made that 63 today look so easy.
51:50 Oh, he the last.
51:51 I I I think he's got something super low in the bag.
51:54 And he doesn't just win, he wins by multiple.
51:56 Is he going to win by five tomorrow?
51:57 I said Young going to win by five.
51:59 I said four, but I'm just going to I'm going to put it
52:00 at multiple shots so I can so I can keep a two shot.
52:02 I'd be okay with both of those scenarios, by the way.
52:04 Alex winning, Cam winning.
52:06 I'd love to see homeless Hubs get the victory in Myrtle Beach.
52:09 Love Hubs.
52:10 Um and he's playing some great golf right now.
52:11 A lot of opportunity around the world right now.
52:13 You have our blessing to win.
52:14 Uh Shane, you said you didn't want to see your golf swing on the show anymore.
52:19 Quit doing stuff, man.
52:20 Our guy makes it out of local qualifying.
52:22 We might see him.
52:24 I know there's there's there's 36 big holes
52:26 of golf between you and a crazy thing to say.
52:29 I texted the hubs today.
52:30 I'm going to I really think winning the US Open would do a lot for my career.
52:34 Yeah, that would take you a long way.
52:35 Be a smart thing for me to do.
52:36 How's How's Shinny set up for you?
52:39 I've played it a couple times.
52:40 I think I played it okay once and not very good the other time.
52:44 Uh, I think Shikok's the best best major course
52:47 outside of Augusta National in [music] the United States.
52:49 So, you make it through locals here partially thanks to just a nasty seven iron.
52:54 Talk me through that shot.
52:55 Yeah, it was 143 into the wind.
52:57 Seven eye.
52:58 That's a prevailing gust back pin.
53:01 Big false [music] front kind of in front of it.
53:03 Artis thought if I could if I could chip seven,
53:06 it would take some of the spin off.
53:07 And uh yeah, [music] that was that was my best swing of the day.
53:09 And for the uninitiated, what comes next?
53:10 So now uh I go uh June 8th golf's longest day [music]
53:14 36 holes going to play up here in the Northeast and um
53:18 I think there's probably three four spots in the qualifier.
53:21 Probably have to shoot 6, seven, eight under for 36 holes, something like that.
53:25 I walk fast and I don't talk much.
53:27 You need [music] a man on the back.
53:29 Yeah.
53:29 [laughter] Get a professional out there.
53:31 I'll I'll cost you strokes.
53:32 Oh, it was you need someone to find you a couple.
53:34 You know, I got through in 2019 and and the the I was I was working
53:39 for Fox at the time and we were kind of bouncing all over doing USJ stuff.
53:42 I had to fly in to Dallas the night before, get in at like midnight for 36 holes
53:47 the next day and had never seen either golf course.
53:49 Going to try to approach it a little different this time.
53:51 Yeah, we're we are rooting for you.
53:53 We're looking forward to it already.
53:54 Quite the accomplishment.
53:55 Yeah, I appreciate that.
53:56 Yeah, it was it was a fun day.
53:57 It's it's nice when you do something fun in golf.
53:58 We don't do it a lot.
53:59 Competitive golf.
54:00 Shane Bacon, he's still got it in him.
54:02 We appreciate that.
54:03 Uh he is here competing on scorecard with us as [music] well.
54:06 And and this guy, come on.
54:08 You you you want to talk about just up for anything.
54:11 I like you said, I hope [music] Wags I hope Wags is a couple deep.
54:15 I hope he's enjoying himself and being celebrated at the club.
54:18 This [music] should be his avatar on his social media right here.
54:20 That picture right there.
54:22 This has been Scorecard [music] presented by Avis First.

57:47 can the Lakers somehow rally tonight and make it
