Big Horse Adventure, Jack Antonoff, You Look Different | Fact Check for Jack Antonoff

Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard

0:01 He is an arm care expert, but he makes mistakes all the time.

0:05 Thank god Monica's here.

0:07 She's got to let him have the facts.

0:10 Well, he got a free He got a free dancer out of it.

0:13 He did.

0:14 He did.

0:14 That could be.

0:15 That just could be the music video.

0:17 I don't know what they would have offered me, what the budget would have been,

0:20 but it was He got it for cheaper than whatever that was.

0:23 He sure did.

0:24 $100 or something.

0:25 Well, we're both We both had whirlwind weekends.

0:28 We did.

0:29 Yes, you here in town.

0:30 Me in Nashville.

0:32 I had my brother and and his partner Emily in town and it was so fun.

0:39 Also, they loved the house which was really nice.

0:44 Yeah.

0:43 Last time we checked in, we made a joke about if they say like go to Malibu,

0:48 you just keep talking, you know, like they didn't say that.

0:51 You just keep it keep it going, keep it moving.

0:54 Um,

0:55 we did go to Malibu.

0:56 Who brought it up?

0:57 They did.

0:58 What' they say?

0:59 My brother was like, or I just said,

1:00 "What is there anything you guys really want to do?" And he said,

1:03 "We do want to go to Malibu." Oh[ __] God.

1:07 Okay.

1:08 Did you take Los Virgin or did you take Kanan Dune?

1:10 I took Kanan.

1:12 Kanan.

1:12 Okay.

1:12 I was sort of I mean I just follow I follow my phone, you know.

1:16 I follow my phone.

1:17 It's

1:18 good advice.

1:18 Jess and I get in fights a lot about which app to use.

1:24 Sure.

1:23 I won't say which one he uses.

1:26 Ways.

1:26 Not going to say it.

1:27 I'm not going to say what he uses.

1:29 I just really dislike the one he uses.

1:33 Okay.

1:33 I only hate one of the three main ones.

1:36 And I'll remain quiet on which one.

1:38 But we have Apple Maps, we have Google Maps, and we have ways, right?

1:41 Am I missing one?

1:43 Those are the three I know.

1:44 Rob probably uses a punk rock one that's like no one uses.

1:48 It's like really cool.

1:49 Yeah.

1:49 It's like X traffic.

1:52 Oh[ __] I want to do that one.

1:54 I'm not cool enough.

1:55 Which one do you use?

1:56 I use um Apple.

1:59 I use what's on my phone.

2:00 Okay.

2:00 And I love it.

2:01 And I use Google and I love it.

2:03 I love it.

2:04 Okay.

2:04 But we don't

2:05 Yeah, it's fine.

2:06 We're not debating.

2:08 Generally, when you and I drive together, I know where I'm going.

2:11 We drove together last week to a screening.

2:13 Uhhuh.

2:13 I knew how to get there.

2:14 Yeah.

2:14 You didn't put it in.

2:15 I didn't need that map.

2:17 That's the difference between us.

2:18 I You would have mapped even that place that you know

2:21 Oh, definitely.

2:22 I don't really know that place.

2:25 Like I do, but not enough.

2:26 I need to

2:27 Do you know how to get to Sunset Tower on your own?

2:29 Yes.

2:30 Okay.

2:30 Although I mean it's two turns.

2:34 Go down Western to Sunset in a pinch.

2:36 Okay.

2:36 This is what I like about maps though.

2:38 It it can tell if there's traffic.

2:41 So it will take you a a different way.

2:44 Well, it'll never take you the two turns version.

2:46 Yeah.

2:46 It doesn't take me two turns.

2:47 No, the 30 turns,

2:49 which if I'm going on my own, I can get there on my own.

2:52 If I didn't have my phone, I could get there.

2:54 But I'm going to go to turns

2:56 and when I follow the map,

2:58 I feel like I'm probably getting there faster because it's telling me

3:01 I think you are.

3:02 Yeah.

3:03 Um

3:03 I'm living in great stress.

3:04 If you read all these articles,

3:05 they're starting to mount cameras up everywhere

3:08 as a big statewide initiative for for speeding cameras.

3:12 Really?

3:13 They're going to be everywhere.

3:14 And I think they let you go 11 miles an hour over

3:17 the speed limit and then they just automatically send you a ticket.

3:20 No.

3:21 Yes.

3:23 Really?

3:22 Yeah.

3:22 And I got a list of the places they were putting it.

3:26 But it wasn't terribly exact.

3:29 Oh,

3:29 just like this corridor.

3:30 This is going to be horrible for you.

3:31 It is.

3:32 I'm going to have to learn all new routes.

3:33 They're really pushing you out of this city.

3:35 They want me gone.

3:36 They want me gone.

3:37 They do.

3:38 Wow.

3:39 Yeah.

3:39 Wait, that is

3:39 And then I can't really speed in in Mount Juliet cuz there's so many cops.

3:43 So that's okay.

3:44 I was actually going to ask you because in Georgia you cannot speed.

3:50 They they the cops are everywhere.

3:52 They're in speed cars.

3:54 There are speed traps.

3:55 They're in cars that are black that in black writing say like duth police.

4:00 So you can't tell that it's a police already pulled over.

4:06 Correct.

4:04 And so it's always been a thing.

4:07 And I only go five over there every time.

4:11 And that's the vibe in Mount Juliet on the highway in Nashville.

4:15 Fine.

4:16 People are flying.

4:17 That's kind of fine.

4:18 10 over.

4:19 Yeah.

4:19 For people who don't know the culture in LA,

4:22 it's everyone drives fast as they want pretty much.

4:25 Because you actually cannot go that fast because there's so much traffic.

4:30 Yes.

4:30 But there I got to say it's state to state to state.

4:33 California is the least Yeah.

4:36 Uh oppressive.

4:37 Yeah.

4:38 Yeah.

4:38 Yeah.

4:38 They're they're not running like um speed traps and stuff.

4:42 They're they're and they have a whole I when we made chips,

4:45 I got to meet a lot of the CHP people and they have

4:47 an actual agenda which is they just are patrolling high accident areas, right?

4:54 They're just trying to make everything safer.

4:55 Nice.

4:56 That's good.

4:57 All to say people drive pretty fast on the highways.

5:01 On the highway.

5:02 Yeah.

5:03 Yeah.

5:03 Everyone's going 80.

5:04 That's definitely over an 11 over.

5:06 That's true.

5:06 It's 15 over.

5:08 Again, only if there's no traffic, which is pretty rare.

5:11 Yeah, but when you get it, you know, that's why.

5:13 That's why.

5:14 Anyhow, I'm I'm just waiting.

5:15 I I guess they're going to have like

5:16 a month grace thing where you'll get tickets,

5:18 but you won't have to pay the fine and then it kicks in.

5:21 Then you'll have to pay a fine, but there's no points.

5:23 Oh, interesting.

5:24 Yeah, but I just I don't like the idea of there being a record

5:27 for your insurance.

5:30 But I don't really speed.

5:31 But I just don't like being watched.

5:33 Even though that's kind of weird for me because

5:36 you're not a libertarian by nature.

5:38 I'm really not.

5:39 I'm not I've gotten more into privacy as the older I've got for some reason.

5:44 Yeah.

5:44 Things happen when you're older.

5:46 That's just how it is.

5:49 Yeah.

5:48 Yeah.

5:48 Like my mother was just here and she's like her trust

5:51 level with the government is at a real alltime low.

5:54 Oh, right.

5:55 And I think that's just aging.

5:56 Yeah.

5:56 Yeah.

5:57 I mean, she's always was like a 60s flower power hat to Vietnam, but right

6:02 now it's just feels like every everything's not to be trusted.

6:05 That's true.

6:06 At any rate, so yeah, I have to drive pretty slow in Nashville.

6:10 Um, now it's looking like I'm going to have to drive slow here.

6:13 I'm going to have to move to Germany.

6:14 Autobon.

6:14 It's my last I thought I was going to retire in Nashville, but not not the case.

6:18 Oh, well that's a ding-ding for this episode

6:20 actually because you know we are going

6:23 to try to unseat um the number two most streamed podcast which is in Germany.

6:30 Caution does.

6:31 So maybe you should move there to just get like feet on the ground.

6:35 Well, we at least know you can have an enormously huge podcast over there.

6:39 That's true.

6:40 And I think you should host there.

6:42 I mean I think I'll stay.

6:43 Maybe we could start doing Zooms.

6:45 Um yeah, Germany doesn't feel like the place for you.

6:47 It's not for me, I don't think.

6:48 Although, I do want to visit there.

6:49 I've never been there.

6:50 I'm sure I'm sure I would enjoy it.

6:53 It answers the question, what if everything ran perfectly,

6:57 right?

6:56 Yeah.

6:57 Everything Everything runs exactly on time.

6:59 Everything's spotless clean.

7:01 They've got a real ethos there.

7:02 And I appreciate those things,

7:04 but then you do start feeling like where's the the Parisian vibe?

7:08 Where's the sexiness?

7:10 And they're okay.

7:11 This is the show Gish Hack.

7:15 Oh, it's like a game.

7:17 Well, they're playing they're definitely playing a game.

7:19 They're also one of them's younger, so they've been hitting it hard.

7:23 Either he started really young or they've just had an explosive ride.

7:27 Got 341 episodes.

7:30 Not that many.

7:31 No.

7:31 So, they're Yeah, they're getting a lot of downloads.

7:33 Oh my god.

7:34 Everyone Every single German listens to it.

7:36 Do you think maybe they'll have us diplo?

7:38 Right.

7:39 The guy on the left or right?

7:40 On the right.

7:42 Okay.

7:42 Yeah, they both have a thing.

7:44 Yeah, they're both attractive.

7:45 Yeah, the guy on the left looks like Diplo now.

7:48 Is that his name?

7:49 Um, that Diplo is his name.

7:51 And being fit is his game, right?

7:54 Yeah, he looks like him.

7:56 Yeah.

7:56 Yeah, it does.

7:57 I just looked up Diplo.

7:58 It does look

7:58 It might be Diplo.

7:59 What if it's Diplo?

8:00 That would explain why he's got such a huge Now he looks older here.

8:03 That's That's comforting.

8:04 That's Diplo.

8:06 Diplo.

8:06 Oh[ __] I thought, Dude, that's They're identical.

8:09 Wait, is maybe it is Diplo's podcast.

8:12 Hold on.

8:13 Gemish.

8:14 Oh, no.

8:14 It's like it literally comes up in German.

8:17 No.

8:18 Felix Loberect and Tommy Schmidt.

8:23 Congratulations, boys.

8:24 Yeah.

8:24 Wow, man.

8:25 Hey, have us on.

8:27 Yeah, let's get us on.

8:28 I can hit him with my six sentences of German and then we're out.

8:32 Yep.

8:33 Yep.

8:33 Yep.

8:33 Yep.

8:34 Yep.

8:34 Oh, it's a comedy audio show.

8:36 So,

8:37 lots of lots of shisha.

8:39 Yeah.

8:40 So, I went to I'm fresh off of Nashville.

8:44 Yes.

8:43 We started the Hulk Hogan documentary.

8:47 Yeah.

8:47 Which was incredible.

8:48 So incredible that we had a reservation for Bricktops at 7:30 and we

8:52 My favorite restaurant.

8:53 Favorite restaurant.

8:54 We considered not going.

8:57 Wow.

8:56 Went to Bricktops.

8:57 It was delicious.

8:58 They've taken the ribs off the menu.

9:00 Uh oh.

9:00 That's You have notes.

9:02 I love those ribs.

9:03 And then Saturday, more boating.

9:06 We went and watched them unload the coal for the electric plant.

9:13 Wow.

9:13 Watch them unload the barges.

9:15 God,

9:15 we got so distracted by that.

9:17 We almost missed our big horseback riding adventure.

9:21 We're out there just watching this thing.

9:23 Such different versions of I know.

9:25 We were We were riveted, Monica.

9:28 The way this pulley system moves the barge and then each scoop it

9:31 picks it up like I don't know how it picks up that cleanly.

9:35 Yeah.

9:35 We just watched him.

9:36 Anyways, then we had to haul ass back because we had horseback riding, right?

9:41 We had to drive 35 minutes out there for that.

9:43 That was a surprise for them.

9:44 I had asked Aaron earlier in the day how much he weighed

9:47 cuz they sent an email saying you you can't be over 240.

9:50 I was like, "Oh,[ __] I don't know what Aaron's weight's at right now." Yeah.

9:53 And then like then I wanted to tell him if they ask you, just say 239.

9:56 But they did weigh us.

9:58 Oh, okay.

9:58 Yeah.

9:59 That's not something to[ __] around with.

10:01 He was fine.

10:01 He was like 230.

10:02 Everything was going great.

10:03 But when we pulled up, he goes, "Oh my god,

10:06 horseback ride." I thought maybe we were taking

10:07 a helicopter ride cuz you asked how much I weighed.

10:10 I was like, "Well, that have been cooler."

10:11 He wished.

10:12 He wished.

10:13 So we went and you know, I thought it was going to be really fun

10:16 because I like being scared and I'm scared on horses.

10:20 Yeah, there's Yep.

10:21 They scare me.

10:22 I've had some bad experiences.

10:24 They're majestic animals, but they are they have minds of their own.

10:27 They're in charge.

10:28 They're in Actually, this is good for you.

10:30 You're like relinquishing this other thing is more powerful than me.

10:35 Yeah.

10:35 It's like immersion therapy of some kind.

10:38 But of course, we start doing this trail

10:40 ride through the state park and it's beautiful.

10:43 Um but little hints are coming out along right away.

10:46 It's like how olds are everyone's horses?

10:48 Oh, turns out mine's 25, right?

10:50 And they're like, it's about as old as they get.

10:52 Oh, and they said he probably should have been retired.

10:55 Like now they now they start saying like maybe they

10:57 he's past his prime and he should have already been retired.

11:00 And I'm like if they lived at 25 and mine's

11:02 25 that's like a that's the equivalent of being 100.

11:05 Okay.

11:05 He's a he's a grampy.

11:07 Yes.

11:07 He doesn't want to be out there.

11:09 Uh-oh.

11:09 Okay.

11:10 So he likes to follow the leader's horse right with his face on the horse's[ __]

11:15 Do you think he had a little bit of dementia?

11:17 Just a touch of it.

11:18 He had something going on.

11:20 He wanted to be nose to butt.

11:22 But if Aaron's horse got even close to mine, he would jump and kick.

11:27 And so mine was intermittently kicking and stopping

11:29 and freaking out and doing more kicking and then

11:31 Aaron's was like trying to avoid getting hit

11:34 by the kicks and almost hit Aaron in the face.

11:37 And so I just had this complete uneasiness for an hour

11:40 and a half like when's my horse going to really do something wild.

11:45 Yeah.

11:45 And then were you able to laugh or were you like I want this to be done now?

11:49 Oh boy.

11:50 Both maybe.

11:51 Both.

11:51 Yeah.

11:52 And then another like there it was a little muddy

11:55 and slippery so they the horses were slipping a bit

11:57 and then and then one of the the the gals

12:00 said uh oh yeah these horses been clumsy all day.

12:03 So I was like this too old should have been retired they've been clumsy all day.

12:06 I just kept thinking like we keep kept getting more

12:09 and more hints that it was going to go terribly arry.

12:12 And then we never rode fast where I could

12:14 have maybe gotten the giggles where I'd be really scared.

12:18 Okay.

12:17 So it was just this like

12:19 my least favorite part of it.

12:20 I'm just have anxiety that my horse is going to buck me off or something.

12:24 Now, did you psych?

12:25 I'm more interested in the psychology obviously.

12:28 Yeah.

12:28 So, were you like why did I do this?

12:32 And like it was for to be funny and like at what point am I not going

12:36 to do this anymore for bits or like what

12:40 was happening in your mind when you're just existential stuff.

12:43 Oh, you weren't okay.

12:44 Anyh who, it was fine.

12:45 We started forgetting we were on a horse trip and just started You know,

12:50 you have you have like a guide in front and a guide in back,

12:52 then the three of us.

12:55 Yeah.

12:54 And first we're doing horse talk and horse

12:57 questions and state park qu and then we're just

12:59 like we're just going to talk how we

13:00 are and then we're just doing our dumb stuff.

13:03 Okay, fine.

13:03 It was great.

13:04 It was great.

13:05 And then we came back and my neighbor

13:09 Nate had made this incredible smoked feast for us.

13:13 Pork butt smoked and two racks of ribs that were impossible.

13:17 which is good cuz you didn't have ribs the night before.

13:19 That's right.

13:20 Kind of a blessing really.

13:22 Yeah.

13:22 So then Nate came over and then the four of us had

13:24 dinner and uh we stayed up and then we watched some more.

13:27 Oh, I left one thing out.

13:28 We had gone for a walk on Saturday through the neighborhood.

13:31 U Tyrell was in the mood for some exercise.

13:34 So we took this long walk and there was the cutest little boy.

13:36 He had to have been between 10 and 12 and he had a little mini bike,

13:41 an oldfashioned miniike with a lawnmower engine and two wheels.

13:45 Yeah.

13:45 and he was ripping back and forth and we were like cheering

13:47 for oh you know the first thing we saw him do is

13:49 he pulled his before he even knew we were watching him he

13:52 pulled his motorcycle over got off and moved something out of the road

13:56 and we were like what was that and then when we got

13:57 up to the road we saw he had he saw a turtle

13:59 in the road and he pulled over and moved it out so

14:01 it'd be safe so we knew he was a really good boy

14:05 so we were like waving to him every time and every time he

14:07 drive by he quickly wave and put his hand back on the gas ped

14:10 on the throttle so on Sunday we got all of my motorcycles out and we

14:15 were ripping around the yard and Tyrell hadn't been on a motorcycle in 25 years.

14:18 So that was hilarious.

14:20 And and then I was like, "All right, let's go out in the neighborhood."

14:22 Motorized horse.

14:23 He was on a motorized horse.

14:25 And we went over to the little boy's house.

14:28 We went out into the neighborhood.

14:29 He already had his mini bike out.

14:30 He heard us in the yard

14:32 and his dad said, "He heard you and God is out." And I said, "Oh, good.

14:35 We invite we've come over to invite him on a ride."

14:38 So we went on a ride with this little boy.

14:40 It was so fun.

14:41 We just did a bunch of laps of the neighborhood.

14:43 That is so cute.

14:44 It was really, really sweet.

14:46 Oh my god.

14:46 He probably like

14:47 I have the cutest video I showed you.

14:49 It's him pulling up and waving.

14:51 Oh, he pro you just like made his whole, you know,

14:55 probably like day cuz you know kids they forget.

14:58 They reset quickly.

14:59 Yeah.

14:59 But wow, it's really sweet.

15:02 Really, really sweet.

15:03 Yeah.

15:03 For 36 hours.

15:04 I can't believe he moved a little turtle out.

15:07 Yeah, he was a nice boy.

15:08 He had a good heart, but he liked ripping around.

15:10 Boys like That's what Aaron said.

15:12 If we were in Melford, we would saw that kid try to catch air on it.

15:16 Exactly.

15:15 Yeah.

15:15 I wonder if I can jump this turtle.

15:19 Exactly.

15:21 Stay tuned for more Armchair Expert if you dare.

15:33 And then Sunday, massages for all three boys.

15:38 Nice.

15:38 Tyrell had never had a massage in his whole life.

15:40 I can't believe that.

15:41 So that's 51 years.

15:44 Yeah.

15:44 Did he enjoy it?

15:46 He loved it.

15:47 Okay, good.

15:47 Of course.

15:48 Yeah, they're the best.

15:51 Yes.

15:50 But I know I'm like I bet my dad Well, not I bet.

15:53 I know.

15:53 Like my dad's definitely never had a massage and my mom either.

15:58 Really?

16:00 Yeah.

15:59 Oh, there's so many want it.

16:02 Yeah.

16:02 Tyrell was saying he never wanted one cuz he has hair on his back.

16:05 That was the whole reason.

16:05 And Weekly was like, you know, almost all men have hair on their back.

16:08 I don't think it would be uniquely disgusting for the mass massage therapist.

16:13 Yesterday, I I had things I was supposed to do.

16:16 I had to work.

16:17 I had to edit.

16:18 I had to do

16:20 You're a busy woman.

16:21 I'm a busy lady.

16:22 Can't just be hosting the rest of your life.

16:25 Well, no.

16:25 My my my brother was gone.

16:27 Oh, he left.

16:28 No.

16:28 Yeah, they were gone.

16:29 So, I had like stuff I had a whole day planned

16:31 of getting being productive and I didn't do any of that.

16:36 Okay.

16:37 I started going through some pictures because I needed to print some pictures.

16:42 I've decided, you know,

16:43 currently my house doesn't have many pictures, personal pictures.

16:50 There's art.

16:50 I'm getting into art.

16:51 That's a we'll put a pin slash bookmark in that.

16:55 And I have a couple pictures in my bedroom and a couple in the guest bedroom,

17:02 the guest bedrooms, but none in the living room.

17:04 And I was like, you know what?

17:04 I need like if you walk in here,

17:06 you don't know who lives here and you don't know who they love, you know?

17:12 So I and I had I knew I had some frames, but I didn't know where they were.

17:17 They were in the garage, so I had to You'll be interested in this.

17:20 I cleaned out my garage.

17:21 Oh my god,

17:23 it was really hard.

17:23 I hated it.

17:25 Yeah.

17:25 Um but I got all my frames and I brought them up and I was like, "Okay,

17:27 now I need to print pictures." So, I went through I was going through so

17:34 many old pictures and I was bothering everyone.

17:36 I was like, you know, texting everyone, do you have this picture?

17:39 Do you have this picture?

17:40 Do you have any pictures of this?

17:41 You were calling on others also to help.

17:43 Yes, I was.

17:43 And so, I was doing that and then also, you know,

17:46 the photo book I made for Ryan for Secret Turkey last year, Artifact Uprising.

17:51 I'll give them a shout out.

17:53 Amazing photo books.

17:57 Oh, I hope I don't have another cough attack.

17:58 Oh god, don't leave.

18:01 You can call here.

18:02 Callie is the one that introduced me to them and she has great taste.

18:05 So,

18:06 you know, and you can make these photo books and they're so cool.

18:11 They're not your average photo books.

18:13 Uh, sorry, average photo book places, but I made um three photo books.

18:20 One was Golden Globes.

18:26 Okay.

18:25 Second was SAG Awards.

18:27 a SAG Actor Awards.

18:29 Third was my apartment.

18:31 This one was hardest cuz I was like I

18:33 I think I only want pictures in the apartment.

18:37 I need to boil it down to 50 pictures.

18:41 That's the max.

18:41 I was trying to balance like pictures

18:43 of the actual apartment and then some pictures of people.

18:46 You know, it's a lot to think about.

18:48 Your different meals you posted.

18:50 We did not take enough pictures in that apartment.

18:52 I was actually kind of pissed.

18:55 Yeah.

18:55 But again, I'm asking people I was I I not to not

19:01 to throw her under the bus cuz obviously we love her the most here,

19:05 but I had to ask Kristen for a picture.

19:08 Okay.

19:08 And she's just not Sometimes she's not the best at responding.

19:11 So I got a little nervous cuz I really

19:13 wanted to get these books in, you know, in.

19:15 You wanted to get it off your plate.

19:17 I did.

19:18 Yeah.

19:18 And I I asked her, I said, "Do you have the picture of me,

19:22 you, Dax, and Anna from the Vanity Fair party?"

19:27 I knew she had it.

19:28 And then she wasn't responding.

19:30 And so, you know what?

19:30 I I checked back in and I felt bad.

19:33 She's a busy lady.

19:34 She's shooting a show right now.

19:36 Yeah.

19:37 I did my due diligence.

19:38 I first texted Anna.

19:39 Yeah.

19:40 Yeah.

19:40 Yeah.

19:40 I said, "Do you have this picture?" She didn't.

19:43 Um, but she was on set with Kristen, so she went to get Kristen's phone.

19:48 This was going to solve my problems, you know.

19:49 Yeah.

19:50 But Kristen had already

19:51 For the listener, it sounds like you're crying, but you're not crying.

19:54 I'm not crying.

19:54 I have I'm having a cough.

19:56 She's having a call.

19:56 One of her cough attacks that are springing up more frequently.

19:59 I know.

20:00 It's

20:02 really I don't know.

20:03 I haven't And now I guess when I'm talking they're habit.

20:07 Do you think they're psych?

20:08 Now I'm getting nervous.

20:08 They're like psychosmatic or something.

20:11 Wasn't everything at least half?

20:12 I mean, I don't I'm unwilling to accept this as psychos

20:17 something like I cuz you know I canceled my doctor's appointment.

20:21 Oh, okay.

20:21 This I didn't.

20:23 Oh, so I had a doctor's appointment set because I've been getting sick a lot.

20:26 I've been getting a lot of bugs

20:28 and you know this is why single people don't they die, you know.

20:32 Yeah.

20:33 They don't live and they die because they don't go to the doctor.

20:36 Luckily, I have Jess who said, "I I want you to go to the doctor." Yeah.

20:41 Yeah.

20:41 this is too many bugs and they're lasting for too long.

20:45 And I was like, "Okay, uh, sure, maybe next time." You know,

20:49 and then, but this last bug was lasting for so long.

20:52 I did make an appointment, had it scheduled, but then I got better.

20:58 That's always the case.

20:59 The second you make the appointment or you show up at the doctor,

21:02 you start feeling great.

21:03 And it was an 8:00 a.m.

21:04 Oh, yeah.

21:05 And I was like,

21:06 I'm not going.

21:07 So, I canled.

21:08 Okay, great.

21:09 Um, I did break the news to Jess.

21:11 yesterday that I didn't go and he was mad.

21:15 Okay.

21:14 Um and now I'm mad, I guess, because I'm I still have I I thought I was better

21:18 and I have a little bit of a cough attack, but that's okay.

21:21 I'm going to edit all out so no

21:22 one's going to even know what we're talking about.

21:24 Yeah.

21:24 They'll be like, "What are they talking about?" Anyway, so I got the picture.

21:28 She I pestered her.

21:29 I said, "Sorry to be a pest." But you know,

21:31 sometimes you have to be a pest in life to get what you want.

21:35 Yeah.

21:34 Sorry to be a pest.

21:35 I just really want to get this book in today.

21:38 And so she sent it to me and great, that one's sent in.

21:45 Perfect.

21:44 The Sagord one sent in.

21:47 I had asked Anna, you know, I was really pestering Anna a lot for those, do

21:50 you have any pictures of Kristen while she's on stage?

21:54 Yeah.

21:55 Um,

21:54 you guys, you I got to finish this book today.

21:56 I did.

21:57 She was like, "What's going on?" Yeah.

21:59 What's the rush?

22:00 Yeah.

22:01 And then the apartment, that was real.

22:02 I I reached out to a lot of people.

22:04 Anthony, Alison, Rachel, um, Jess, Anna.

22:08 But it was fun for me cuz I was going

22:10 back through all my pictures and looking and just like,

22:14 man, have we changed.

22:17 Yeah.

22:17 Because, you know what's really fun about the apartment?

22:19 I moved in March of 2018.

22:23 We started this show February of 2018.

22:25 Oh, wow.

22:26 So, it really bookmarks that time.

22:29 Yeah.

22:29 And it's really sweet to like see over the course

22:33 of the past eight years how much has changed just us personally growing,

22:39 but also just lookwise and also what we've all been through.

22:42 Me the most, right?

22:44 You look so different.

22:46 Yeah.

22:45 But not You don't look older.

22:48 You just look different because you've changed your body so much.

22:52 I know.

22:52 Do you think people think I had like reconstructive surgery?

22:55 Well, you haven't.

22:56 I can I can confirm.

22:58 We haven't done that.

22:58 But yeah, it's changed so much.

23:00 It really I feel like if you did a before and after,

23:04 a random picture from Parenthood and now.

23:08 Yeah.

23:08 You could make some case that I've had like some kind of a face transfer.

23:11 Rob, will you put two pictures up?

23:13 One of Dax during Parenthood and one of him at the Golden Globes

23:17 or this morning.

23:18 Did you taking photos of me this morning?

23:20 I think actually I really did.

23:23 It was interesting because, you know, I'm always like,

23:25 why are you you don't need to like keep working out and whatever,

23:29 but I've been noticing some other people aging.

23:34 Uh-huh.

23:34 You mean you shouldn't work out or I shouldn't?

23:37 You.

23:37 Oh, right.

23:37 Right.

23:37 Okay.

23:39 You're so big, you know.

23:40 um mus muscular and I get worried that it's

23:44 it's causing you to have dysmorphia and you know

23:47 but when I was going back in time

23:49 and looking at these pictures and also simultaneously I'm

23:52 watching some other people in the sphere age I

23:56 was looking at other pictures of people as I'm as I'm it's all right there

24:00 yeah I was like oh wow he does look healthy like

24:06 and that's good so he probably should still continue on this path.

24:11 So, I have to give it to you.

24:13 Oh, wow.

24:13 Thank you.

24:13 And I'll meet you halfway,

24:15 which is I think the area where it's going to be problematic.

24:18 And this was in the Hulk Dock.

24:20 Oh, okay.

24:22 For the listener, we have a very beautiful

24:24 picture of Dax and Kristen at the Golden Globes.

24:26 And then Dax on Parenthood.

24:28 Okay.

24:29 You do look younger, but you don't look old at all here.

24:35 I look completely different.

24:36 I look super masculine on the left and not on the right.

24:40 You look very

24:41 My beard came in and since then like I couldn't grow a full beard back then.

24:45 You look very boyish on on the right.

24:51 Yes.

24:50 Can you Sorry, Rob, cuz I know you're like doing some cool like stuff.

24:54 I wonder if you can get a picture of Dax Kristen at the Chips premiere.

25:00 Yep.

25:00 Oh, wow.

25:00 She's looking so good.

25:02 Just perfect.

25:03 She's doing amazing.

25:04 Yeah.

25:05 Started hot and ended hot.

25:08 From A to Z.

25:09 And I started at a six and went to a seven.

25:11 No, no, no, no, no.

25:13 Yeah.

25:14 I mean, a lot of it is just I was so I was clean shaving a lot.

25:17 Yeah, she looks the same.

25:20 Um, yeah, you look Yeah, you're right.

25:24 You facial hair.

25:26 I look like I could sell you a car in this photo from the chips from here.

25:30 I don't think so.

25:31 Like, what are you in the Are you have a large family, sir?

25:34 Do you how many passengers do you carry normal?

25:37 You guys watch the fact check.

25:38 The fact check has visuals now.

25:40 There's so many visuals

25:42 and like this episode's pretty visual heavy.

25:45 Yeah.

25:44 So, I would recommend coming and watching.

25:47 And also, look how fast Rob worked his magic.

25:50 Yeah, he is good on a computer.

25:52 It doesn't get better.

25:53 Okay, this is actually great because well, you can't see your eyes.

25:57 You're wearing sunglasses in the one on the left.

26:00 That Want me to take them off?

26:02 Pick up this is a pain in my eyes,

26:04 but make them look my current eyes, not eyes from chips.

26:07 If I had Photoshop, I could.

26:08 Um, I got another one.

26:10 No, it's okay.

26:11 I mean, there must be a picture of you without your sunglasses at the Golden.

26:14 You're wearing sunglasses there.

26:16 Sometimes I do.

26:17 Yeah.

26:17 Oh, wow.

26:18 Yeah, why not?

26:19 Yeah, sure.

26:20 Um,

26:21 Jack Nicholson always did.

26:22 Yeah, I mean, they look nice.

26:24 I don't think he ever took his off outside of a movie.

26:27 He's at the Lakers game indoors.

26:28 He's got an interview.

26:30 He's got his shades on at all the award shows.

26:33 Yeah, it's kind of cool.

26:34 Oh, there we go.

26:36 Very nice.

26:37 Okay, this is a picture without his sunglasses on.

26:42 I just look more like my dad now.

26:43 Wait, what's happening?

26:44 Why is Chris?

26:45 This is a Golden Years ago.

26:47 This is from this year.

26:49 Okay.

26:49 Is it?

26:50 Yeah.

26:50 So, this is from a couple months ago.

26:54 Okay.

26:53 And the one on the right is from Chips.

26:55 So, again, she looks the same.

26:58 actually wearing complimentary outfits.

27:00 I really like what's going on here.

27:02 Dashes of green and and black and purple.

27:04 Pretty purple.

27:05 Okay.

27:06 And it's the facial hair, but also Yeah,

27:10 you look it does look like your face has changed shape,

27:14 but it's because of the neck

27:17 of Well, yeah.

27:18 The muscles.

27:20 Yeah.

27:20 Yeah.

27:20 Yeah.

27:20 It's weird.

27:21 It's really interesting.

27:22 Well, but I was going to say watching the Hulk doc,

27:25 the thing that I think could be in my future that's

27:28 problematic is both the Hulk Hogan doc and the Ronnie Coleman dock.

27:33 Both these guys still lifting weights

27:36 and they can't walk.

27:38 No, you cannot.

27:39 But they can barely walk, right?

27:40 They have a cane.

27:41 He can't get up off the machines, but he's still lifting a ton of weight.

27:45 And I'm like, what's going on there?

27:46 Where it's like, you're still very strong, but you can't walk

27:50 and you just keep lifting weights because

27:52 the idea of getting smaller seems terrible.

27:55 And that's a trap I could definitely.

27:58 I'm glad you saw that as a cautionary tale.

28:01 Um, I do still walk pretty good.

28:02 Just out of curiosity now, I want to Can you Can you show me

28:07 at the Chips premiere and me at the Golden Globes?

28:10 Okay.

28:11 Yeah.

28:11 So on the left, we don't own that photo on the left.

28:16 What?

28:15 We don't own that photo on the left.

28:17 Does own it?

28:18 The watermark all over it.

28:19 We Oh, we don't own that picture on the left, but we own the one on the right.

28:23 We don't own either, but

28:27 um Yeah.

28:27 Do you think I look different?

28:29 Everyone weigh?

28:30 We're pretty similar.

28:32 What do you think?

28:33 I actually I look I mean I look Yeah, I guess I look younger on the left.

28:38 You also look like you're going to a nightclub.

28:41 I do a little naughty on the left.

28:44 But I'm wear I'm I'm smiling with my teeth.

28:46 Uhhuh.

28:47 Which is nice.

28:49 Um

28:49 your eyes are very dark.

28:51 Yeah, but my eyes are pretty dark on the right.

28:54 Same thick hair.

28:55 I actually don't think I look that different.

28:57 No.

28:58 No.

28:58 Huh.

28:59 But I I just think you just look like 9 years.

29:00 Look younger.

29:01 Yeah.

29:02 Younger.

29:03 But Huh.

29:04 Interesting.

29:05 I think I I I actually think I look better on the right.

29:11 Okay, no one here wants to comment on that.

29:13 That's okay.

29:13 You don't have to.

29:14 You don't have to.

29:15 But I do think

29:18 you like how you're trending.

29:21 You look great in both.

29:22 I don't know that we can really say which is better.

29:26 Just a little different with some age.

29:30 Yeah.

29:31 Have my features changed?

29:32 No.

29:32 I mean, if you were smiling with your teeth in the right,

29:35 I think we would it would be a better comp.

29:38 Right.

29:38 Fair.

29:38 But you've you've said goodbye to that, right?

29:40 We don't smile with teeth anymore.

29:42 There are pictures with my teeth.

29:44 I I do both.

29:45 But But are people advised not to?

29:47 I mean, I don't really know the rules.

29:49 Not necessarily.

29:50 It just like

29:51 I never figured them out.

29:53 It is supposed I think you're just like it's like

29:56 more modely.

29:57 Yeah.

29:58 Or chic or whatever.

29:59 It's stupid.

30:00 People should smile whenever I'm home.

30:02 with my friends at home and we're taking group pictures,

30:05 they always make fun of me.

30:07 They always say, "Monica, smile with your teeth."

30:09 Oh, really?

30:10 Even in group photos?

30:12 Yes.

30:12 So, it's not just a red carpet thing.

30:14 Yeah.

30:14 Now, I'm just like used to doing it.

30:16 So, I I

30:17 That's your natural now.

30:18 It's become a little more common when there's

30:20 a camera to not smile with my teeth.

30:23 But these people who've known me my whole life are like, "Absolutely not.

30:26 You're smiling with your teeth." Yeah.

30:28 And I like that.

30:29 They're keeping me

30:31 grounded.

30:31 Keeping me grounded.

30:31 That's right.

30:32 All right.

30:32 Should we do a little fackies?

30:35 Yes.

30:35 Okay.

30:35 Well, this is for Jack.

30:37 Oh, for the people who haven't guessed or known or watched this episode,

30:44 this is the one where Dax dances.

30:46 Oh, yes.

30:47 Yes.

30:47 Yes.

30:47 Yes.

30:48 Hot off the presses.

30:51 Yeah.

30:50 Yeah.

30:51 Which may or may not be in the episode.

30:52 We don't know.

30:53 We still don't know.

30:54 We don't know.

30:54 We'll see.

30:55 Um, but just reminding everyone uh Jack loved it.

31:00 He's requested that I do it at the end of every episode.

31:03 So much so that he texted you as like really doubling down.

31:06 Please do that at the end.

31:07 Yeah.

31:08 And I don't know if it's all just a big

31:09 trap to embarrass me or but I kind of trust him.

31:12 He seems like a very trustworthy guy.

31:14 He had a beautiful knowledge of himself.

31:18 Yeah.

31:17 I text him I thought

31:19 you know obviously we didn't get into this in the episode but

31:24 Jack has a quite a list of ex-lovers.

31:29 Yes.

31:29 Yes.

31:30 And um I get it.

31:33 Sure.

31:33 Yeah.

31:33 Yeah.

31:34 I get why.

31:35 Yeah.

31:35 Yeah.

31:35 He definitely makes you feel very seen.

31:40 Mhm.

31:39 He connects.

31:40 He makes eye contact.

31:41 He's asking questions.

31:43 Um

31:44 it's that easy, guys.

31:47 Literally.

31:48 It's literally that easy.

31:49 Yeah.

31:49 Yeah.

31:50 Yep.

31:51 Yeah.

31:51 But apparently it's not easy.

31:53 It's not easy.

31:53 It's scary.

31:54 It's scary.

31:55 The boys are really scared when they're talking to a girl they like.

31:57 I know.

31:58 But you guys, you can do it.

31:59 You can do it.

32:00 You just ask.

32:01 There's no more lions to fight.

32:02 There's no more tribes to fight off.

32:04 Yeah.

32:04 You're okay.

32:05 The last thing you got to do that's uh risk

32:08 risk heavy.

32:08 And you you just look people in the eye.

32:12 You ask questions.

32:13 You do you do need to be a little vulnerable.

32:17 Um but he wasn't too vulnerable either.

32:20 It wasn't like we've had more.

32:24 Yes.

32:23 So, but I I really I understood it.

32:25 He connected.

32:26 It was a duck duck goose.

32:27 I was in my bedroom and I could over hear Tyrell getting a massage.

32:32 Uhhuh.

32:31 And this was an hour into the massage and as I like walked through my bedroom,

32:35 I could hear him in there asking her a million questions.

32:39 He was still talking to her.

32:40 Summer, she's incredible.

32:42 And I literally thought like, oh yeah, Tyrell, whose women have always liked.

32:48 Yeah.

32:47 Um is very engaged and just asking questions and curious.

32:51 Just curious.

32:52 Yeah.

32:52 Yeah.

32:53 And she's married and all, but I was just like, "Oh, right.

32:55 That's what that's how people like each other is they engage.

32:59 Do you think the phrase curiosity killed the cat is

33:02 the reason like all of all of these men are confused?

33:06 No, I just think for some reason it's counterintuitive,

33:10 but I think for some reason men don't know what to ask.

33:14 Like they think it's more complicated than it is.

33:16 Yeah.

33:17 Or they I think maybe they feel like

33:18 they should have the answers so they don't need

33:21 it's time to like you show them

33:23 what kind of a catch they are.

33:24 Right.

33:25 Right.

33:25 You don't need to do that.

33:26 No.

33:27 And oh, for people who are definitely going to ask,

33:31 I want to cut this off at the pass.

33:34 Uh, last week, I think it was when I said I engaged with something um that a lot

33:42 of people like but I didn't like or maybe

33:44 I even said I read was reading something.

33:47 Yeah.

33:46 It is not Lena's book.

33:49 Oh, okay.

33:49 It's not Lena's book.

33:50 So, I I know that's I think people are going to assume that.

33:54 Okay, I am reading it and that is not what I was talking about.

33:58 Okay, great.

33:58 All right.

33:59 Topo Chico shortage.

34:01 Yeah, let's talk about it.

34:03 Let's talk.

34:04 Okay.

34:04 Shortage is going to last through the summer of 2026.

34:07 That's this summer.

34:10 Yeah.

34:09 Why is it happening?

34:10 CocaCola conducted maintenance on the bottling factory

34:14 and found geology issues in the source wells.

34:18 Oh boy.

34:20 All right.

34:21 That can't be great if you've bought a company

34:23 and it's all dependent on one source well,

34:26 but you didn't figure out if that well's this geology issue.

34:30 This is like ding ding ding to your peptide.

34:35 Your peptide was rancid.

34:37 Your your peptide wasn't rancid that we know of, but your

34:41 something in the vial was the bottling no good.

34:43 Yeah.

34:45 This is weird.

34:45 This happened to you twice.

34:46 Remember when you had that like rancid water flavored water and you got

34:51 that the ranch?

34:53 Yeah.

34:53 And you got a um crazy honest

34:59 and puking.

35:00 Yeah.

35:00 Food poisoning.

35:01 Food poisoning.

35:02 Thank you.

35:02 Yeah.

35:02 Yeah.

35:03 Yeah.

35:03 You got crazy food poisoning.

35:05 But everyone else was fine.

35:09 Oh,

35:08 like other people had drank those and it no one else had a problem.

35:12 I thought it was in your trailer and it was like

35:15 it was just this brand with this flavor.

35:18 Anytime I had it, it made me sick.

35:20 That was a one-off batch.

35:22 Oh, I thought it was

35:22 Well, I think the three times I I've had it, I've gotten sick.

35:26 Oh my god.

35:26 Okay.

35:27 I think there's just something specific I'm allergic to in there.

35:30 Oh, so then then we then it isn't food poisoning.

35:32 It's you have an allergy, I guess.

35:34 I didn't hear anyone else complaining about it.

35:38 Interesting.

35:37 And there's big gaps in times when I've tried the product.

35:40 Really?

35:40 You sure you tried it again?

35:42 Why would you do that?

35:44 For fun.

35:45 I think it was like I think it was like like

35:47 one of the normal water companies made flavored water for a minute,

35:51 right?

35:51 Yeah.

35:51 And it was those.

35:54 Yeah.

35:53 And one of the flavors black cherry or something,

35:56 you know.

35:57 Bu Yeah, cuz it wasn't just Hanis.

36:01 You you were fully growing up food poisoned.

36:04 Yeah.

36:07 Yeah.

36:06 Not good.

36:07 Okay.

36:07 Um, we are young.

36:09 Release date.

36:10 September 20th, 2011.

36:12 That was a fact.

36:15 Okay.

36:14 What is the romcom movie that mentions the Hines slogan?

36:18 It's probably what Dax said.

36:19 Arthur 2 on the rocks.

36:21 The sequel to the 1981 hit starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli.

36:25 The film references the famous marketing slo slogan Hines

36:29 57 number two in the world and that ain't bad.

36:32 Other options, Agent Cody Banks 2.

36:36 Destination London also lightly mentions Hines, but it isn't a romcom.

36:42 Other famous ones are when Harry Met Sally, but that's just product placement.

36:46 Okay, that's standard.

36:47 What year has Jack been at Grammys with multiple album of the year awards?

36:52 He's been in this position three times.

36:55 Wow, that's awesome.

36:57 Wow.

36:57 He was the first person to ever be nominated in all three major categories,

37:01 album, record, and song of the year.

37:03 Whoa.

37:03 for two different artists in the same night in 2026.

37:08 The only other people who've been nominated for multiple

37:10 albums and album of the year is Serbian Gana.

37:14 This feels a little bit like the Spotify list.

37:17 Okay.

37:17 Um Fel.

37:20 Sure.

37:19 And Tom Elmhurst.

37:21 Huh.

37:22 I don't know Tom Elmhurst.

37:23 Me either years.

37:25 He had multiple nominations in album of the year category 2020.

37:29 He did not win.

37:30 Um, this one is a technicality because he was not technically nominated,

37:34 but he did produce the sec second album on the list.

37:37 Norma[ __] Rockwell, Alana Del Rey, and then Arizona Baby Kevin Abstract.

37:44 2024, he won with Midnight's Midnight's Taylor Swift.

37:48 And did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Boulevard?

37:51 Lana Del Rey.

37:53 2025, he did not win.

37:54 Tortured Poets Department.

37:55 Taylor Swift short and sweet Sabrina Carpenter.

37:57 O 202 I know, but they didn't win.

38:03 Oh, okay.

38:02 2026.

38:03 He did not win.

38:03 Man's Best Friend, Sabrina Carpenter, GNX, Kendrick Lamar.

38:06 Man, he has some amazing albums under his belt.

38:09 This is so cool.

38:11 No, he's kind of the producer of the last decade.

38:14 Yeah, I know.

38:14 I know.

38:15 I know.

38:16 It's so cool.

38:17 Okay.

38:18 The president of Ukraine.

38:20 This was upsetting.

38:21 Yeah.

38:21 Um, Vladimir.

38:24 So, it is.

38:24 So, it's not Vladimir.

38:26 Vladimir.

38:26 Very close.

38:27 Zilinski.

38:28 Yeah, we knew that.

38:29 We just Honest mistake.

38:31 Honest mistake.

38:32 Yeah, honest mistake.

38:34 Ding, ding, ding.

38:35 Um, okay.

38:36 Those are facts for Jack.

38:37 I loved him.

38:38 He was really great.

38:40 He's great.

38:41 Um, I really enjoyed him, too.

38:43 He's a real artist.

38:46 Yes.

38:48 Yeah, he is a That's exactly right.

38:49 He's a real artist.

38:50 He's a real artist.

38:51 And how should I say I probably shouldn't say it, but I'm think I'm gonna Okay.

38:56 I think being a real artist truly madly deeply TLC is a bit of a burden.

39:04 Oh, of course.

39:06 Yeah.

39:06 All of these phenomenal writers wrestle with depression and anxiety.

39:11 Yeah.

39:11 I think it goes hand in hand.

39:13 It's a lot with a willingness to sit in a room

39:15 with uncomfortable emotions and convert them into something.

39:19 And like it's a need that must be met.

39:22 The need to create.

39:26 Yeah.

39:24 It has to be met.

39:26 in in a way that's different from me or I won't say you.

39:31 Yeah, you can say me.

39:32 Me or you, right?

39:33 Who who are creative and have

39:35 the only place I've ever felt it is just writing where it's

39:38 like there have been things I have to sit down and write.

39:40 But other than that, I love it.

39:45 I love writing and have written and I love creating things,

39:51 but I don't feel like I'll die if I don't.

39:54 Right.

39:54 Yeah.

39:55 I have too much fun with other people.

39:57 Yeah, I can do other I know I can do other things in this life

40:01 and not cease to exist, you know.

40:04 But but he is one of those in the category

40:07 like he just has to he has to do this.

40:09 This is a ding ding ding.

40:10 I happened to read this this morning that Michael Jackson one

40:13 time called the guy was producing his album at like 3:00 a.m.

40:17 and said, "Wake everyone up.

40:19 Get them to the studio right now." Yeah.

40:22 And when he was there, he explained to the musicians the reason they had

40:26 to come tonight is that God sends songs down.

40:32 Yeah.

40:31 And if he doesn't catch it, Prince will.

40:35 See, it was literally like either he's going to catch

40:36 this song right now or Prince is going to.

40:39 So, he has to wake up and do it now before Prince catches it.

40:44 Yeah.

40:44 It's really And I think he believed that.

40:46 Yeah.

40:46 Yeah.

40:46 And I don't Who's to say it's not true?

40:49 Every time we talk to one of these super prolific,

40:52 talented songwriters, they're all describing it the same way.

40:54 So, yeah.

40:55 Who am I to say it's the other way?

40:58 Yeah.

40:58 Wow.

40:59 And I'm grateful these people who I do think in general

41:03 suffer a little more and they give us these incredible Me too.

41:06 Me too.

41:06 I have a lot of compassion

41:07 for these artists cuz they're their brains are working

41:11 in a much different way and that has bad thing there are bad things to that.

41:17 Yeah.

41:17 But then we get to like benefit from their genius

41:21 and we also have so many opinions about all of them, right?

41:24 It's like and how they should behave.

41:26 Yeah.

41:27 Yeah.

41:26 Which is maybe not fair.

41:29 All right.

41:29 Well, that is it.

41:30 All right.

41:30 Love you.

41:31 Love you.
