0:43 so it's no wonder that we're both very hungry.

0:46 You might be able to hear our tummies rumble because we're hungry.

0:55 What have you got for lunch today?

0:58 Today for my lunch, I have chicken

1:03 with potatoes and vegetables in a harissa paste.

1:08 Oh, that sounds really nice.

1:11 Yeah, it's leftovers actually,

1:13 which I have heated up and brought in, in a little flask.

1:17 What are leftovers?

1:19 Good question.

1:20 Leftovers.

1:20 That's food from a meal that you've already had that you

1:24 didn't finish and you can heat it up and eat it again.

1:28 Yes.

1:29 I also have leftovers for my lunch today.

1:32 So, yesterday I made a pasta for lunch with vegetables in it and I have that.

1:43 So, Beth, what do you usually have for lunch?

1:46 Is it usually leftovers or something else?

1:50 It's usually leftovers when I come into work because it's easier,

1:56 and then I don't need to buy lunch.

1:59 But if I go out and buy food,

2:02 then I would usually go for something like sushi or ramen.

2:08 What about you?

2:10 What do you usually have for lunch?

2:13 Yeah.

2:14 Sometimes I have leftovers that I bring in.

2:16 Sometimes I buy a sandwich, for example.

2:20 What's your favourite kind of sandwich?

2:24 If I have a sandwich...

2:25 if I buy a sandwich for lunch, I like to get things like smoked salmon.

2:32 Nice, with pickles maybe.

2:34 Yeah.

2:36 There's a really good baguette I like actually

2:39 that has smoked salmon and egg mayonnaise in it.

2:44 Oh, it's so nice.

2:45 Stop it.

2:46 Sorry.

2:46 I'm so hungry.

2:47 Me too.

2:48 Neil, do you ever skip lunch?

2:51 No.

2:51 No way!

2:53 I would be in a horrible mood if I skipped lunch.

2:57 I don't understand how anyone can skip any meal.

3:02 I need to eat all my meals.

3:05 Yeah.

3:05 Otherwise, you get hangry.

3:07 Exactly.

3:08 'Hangry' is hungry and angry.

3:11 I'm on the...

3:13 I'm almost getting hangry now.

3:16 What's your favourite meal?

3:18 Is it lunch?

3:19 Breakfast?

3:21 Dinner?

3:22 I think the evening meal is probably my favourite because

3:26 we sit at the table and chat and it's the biggest,

3:31 nicest meal of the day and you don't really

3:34 have to do anything after so you can relax.

3:38 Mmm.

3:38 Yeah, that's good.

3:39 I really like brunch,

3:41 which is that sort of in between breakfast and lunch– maybe 10:00.

3:46 And I might have eggs and bacon and hash browns and avocado,

3:52 a big meal full of lots of good food.

3:55 I like a brunch.

3:57 Do you ever have a working lunch?

4:00 I do occasionally if I'm working from home.

4:06 because I can carry on working and eat quickly.

4:10 And then in my actual lunch break, I might have a nice long walk or something

4:16 like that, but when I'm in the office, I don't want to eat at my desk.

4:20 No.

4:20 Me neither.

4:21 I don't really like working lunches.

4:24 I would rather eat my lunch without working.

4:29 Yeah, I'd prefer the same, really.

4:37 Let's recap the language we heard during the conversation.

4:41 We had 'skip', which means not have or do.

4:45 For example, I never skip lunch.

4:49 We heard 'working lunch', which is when you eat your lunch while you're working.

4:55 We also had 'leftovers', which is when you don't finish a meal so you have

5:00 more of it at a different time, like the next day.

5:03 And we talked about which meals and food we 'prefer'.

5:07 If you prefer something, you like it better than something else.

5:11 Yes.

5:11 And another phrase we can use to say this is 'would rather'.

5:16 For example, I'd rather have sushi than a sandwich for lunch.
