NEW Premiere Pro Effects You Need to Try

0:00 Hey everyone, it's time for a classic Premiier Gal tutorial and today I'm

0:05 going to show you some of my favorite new effects inside of Premiere.

0:09 Let's go ahead and jump on in.

0:32 All right, let's get into the effects.

0:34 Some of my favorite new effects inside a Premiere can create a dreamlike effect.

0:39 Have you ever seen the show Doc?

0:40 That show cuts between present day and before her accident that happened.

0:46 And when it shows the footage from before the accident, it looks different.

0:51 The feel of that footage is different.

0:52 And they did that on purpose to help the viewer know,

0:54 okay, that's a flashback sequence.

0:56 So, let's talk about what type of effects

0:58 you can use to create these flashback sequences.

1:01 So, I'm going to go over here

1:02 to this sequence called Dreamy here with this clip.

1:05 The new effects inside of Premiere, which by the way, if you didn't hear,

1:08 Adobe acquired Film Impact last August,

1:11 and they've now integrated all of those effects inside of Premiere for free.

1:15 Now, you can find all these effects

1:17 inside of the effects panel underneath video effects.

1:20 If you go down here to, for example, light and glows,

1:23 you'll see a bunch of different new effects here.

1:25 But if you like to visually see, you can go to window extensions,

1:29 the film impact dashboard, and let's go ahead and let's dock this here.

1:34 If we go to effects,

1:35 you can see under lights and glows what these effects actually do.

1:40 So, for example, let's start with the RGB split.

1:43 So, let's go ahead and click apply to add it to our footage.

1:46 And so, now if we go over to effect controls, you can control the effect.

1:52 So, let's go ahead and let's zoom in here.

1:55 So you can see the RGB split a little bit better.

1:58 Press H, the hand tool to kind of zoom in here.

2:01 If we move it too much here, you can see the RGB split becomes too noticeable.

2:06 I'm going to keep it with one.

2:07 You can also play around with the lightness.

2:10 And then there's also a softness which softens the colors.

2:14 So I'm going to soften it.

2:15 You can also choose to adjust the hues.

2:19 So see how that goes to magenta green.

2:22 So you can play around with what colors you want visible in the RGB split.

2:27 You can also do vertigo.

2:29 You can see that it distorts the edges.

2:32 So that can kind of create this kind of vertigo effect.

2:36 Exactly what it's called.

2:37 So I'm liking how this looks.

2:38 We can turn this off.

2:40 This is the before and the after.

2:42 You can also hit the button surprise me which I use all the time just

2:45 for inspiration cuz when you click on that it

2:48 creates different variations in the RGB split.

2:51 But I'm going to go ahead and command Z that.

2:53 Undo it to get back to where we were.

2:56 So next I want to add a glint.

2:58 Let's go ahead and apply that.

2:59 And look at that.

3:00 If I close RGB split and go to glint here,

3:03 you can already see it adds a little bit of a highlight.

3:06 So you can adjust the intensity.

3:08 You can choose how much of the highlights you want to be illuminated.

3:13 So I'm going to lower this down slightly so we get a little bit more.

3:17 This is how much feathering is added to those highlights.

3:20 I like quite a lot.

3:22 I think that looks more dreamy.

3:23 And of course, there's this angle as well.

3:26 And the glint scale is important, too.

3:29 So, if you want it to be overly exaggerated,

3:31 so you really see the glints on those flowers, you can increase that.

3:34 So, so far, this is the before and after.

3:38 And then another thing that you can do is you can go to lummetric color,

3:42 and I like to go to the creative tab and choose a different builtin color look.

3:47 So, let's go ahead and choose one of these Fuji.

3:49 Let's try this one.

3:50 Fuji Eterna Fuji 250 Kodak.

3:53 Oh, I like that.

3:54 It looks a little bit more dreamy.

3:56 And you can adjust the intensity of that.

3:58 But I find that if you reduce the vibrancy,

4:01 look at how it just kind of mutes the colors a little bit.

4:04 And I feel like by muting this a little bit,

4:07 it kind of makes it feel like it's from the past.

4:09 So this is the before.

4:10 Beautiful shot.

4:12 This is after, which is more dreamlike state.

4:14 By the way, this global effects mute button, if you don't see it there,

4:18 you can click on this button editor and you can just drag it.

4:21 Where the heck is it?

4:22 Just drag that in.

4:24 All right.

4:24 Now, I'm going to talk about a really cool split screen effect.

4:28 So, I actually got this effect as part of Art List tools.

4:33 So, if you've ever subscribed to Art List,

4:35 if you go over on their website to tools,

4:38 you can scroll down and get their plugin.

4:41 And there's a bunch of different effects and presets

4:43 that you can import into your effects folder here.

4:47 So, if I go up here to video effects, you can see I have a bunch here.

4:51 Artless blurs, artless channels, artless color correction.

4:55 And by the way, once you import these presets,

4:58 and the way you import them is just by control-clicking and import presets.

5:03 Once you import them, you have these for life.

5:05 So even if your subscription expires in the future,

5:08 you have these, which is a huge benefit of using art list.

5:11 So here, make sure to go to art list generate.

5:13 There is an effect here that's really, really helpful,

5:17 especially if you're doing like music video

5:19 effects or cool montages for your vlogs,

5:21 and it's called the split screen masking.

5:24 And all I'm going to do is drag

5:26 this on the top clip in my sequence here called split demo,

5:32 which has four different clips on four different layers.

5:35 So, if I turn this off, you can see the other clips that I have.

5:38 But right now, we just see the top one because that's the one that's on the top.

5:42 And you can see that there's this faint line here.

5:45 Well, that's part of the split screen that we can then manipulate.

5:48 So, to manipulate it,

5:49 you need to go to effect controls and scroll down to split screen masking.

5:53 And this is super cool.

5:54 You can see that there's a bunch of different presets to choose from.

5:58 So, let's try the horizontal stack.

6:01 And you can see that there's four placeholders now.

6:03 And all we need to do is go down to input layers.

6:06 And here we can choose one of the video tracks for each input.

6:11 So for input zero, we can choose video one,

6:14 which is the video clip on video track one.

6:17 And you can also refframe it as well.

6:20 So you can move it to the left, to the right, you can move it up or down.

6:25 And you can also scale this up.

6:27 And let's go ahead and repeat that for all these different inputs.

6:31 And then what's really cool is you can also adjust the border.

6:35 So if you want this to be a bit bigger, you can use this slider.

6:38 You can also adjust the color if you want to make it white.

6:41 I actually liked the original a lot.

6:43 I'm going to go back.

6:44 So now we have our split screen look.

6:46 And literally it just took a few seconds to do.

6:49 So what I've done here is I've duplicated this split.

6:52 So for this one I want to go over here to effect controls.

6:56 And this time I want to choose a different preset.

6:58 Let's try asymmetric 4.

7:00 And then on this one, let's change it to quadrants.

7:04 And then we can go in and we can quickly

7:06 adjust the inputs here to make them more centered in frame.

7:12 So now I have my three splits here.

7:15 Now what we can do is add transitions between these cut points here.

7:20 Now before we do that, I find it's best to nest

7:24 all four of these different layers as its own nest.

7:28 So, we can select all three layers just

7:30 by clicking and dragging and then controll-click and select nest.

7:35 And we can call this split one.

7:39 And look, now it's one layer.

7:41 Let's do that again.

7:42 And the reason why we did this is that way we

7:44 can just drag and drop a transition at this cut point.

7:46 For this, I want to use the film roll.

7:49 So, let's go ahead and select these two

7:51 nested clips and let's click on apply film roll.

7:54 Now, the issue here with nesting, but I'm going to show you a workaround,

7:59 is that when you nest,

8:02 it essentially cuts off the clip at the end of where the nest ends.

8:07 So, it basically doesn't show any additional media beyond the nest.

8:12 And that's why it says there's not enough media to create a transition.

8:15 The workaround here is you can actually open up this nest as its own nest.

8:20 And you can see that we have the clips here.

8:23 So I can select all of them and what I can do is roll

8:27 this out and say actually there is more media in these stock video clips.

8:31 Now if we go back here, one side works, but we got to fix split two as well.

8:38 The offline or insufficient media on the left refers to the right clip.

8:43 And when there's offline media on the right of the transition,

8:46 it refers to the left clip.

8:47 So let's go ahead and open up split two.

8:50 And let's go ahead and drag this over because

8:53 we want to add more media on this side instead.

8:56 But when we come back here, you can see nothing changed because we need

9:00 to adjust the start point of this nest.

9:03 So what we can do is temporarily cut this transition.

9:06 Command X cuz we're going to repaste it in a moment.

9:10 And this time we want to roll the nest

9:13 in so that way the start point has more media.

9:17 So now when I roll this out and I paste this, look at that.

9:22 We don't have the insufficient media.

9:24 So here you can see what the film roll does.

9:27 Isn't that a super cool transition?

9:29 We can go up to the effect controls.

9:32 And you can use the surprise me button to get a variety

9:36 of different looks and different types of film strips if you like.

9:40 But I actually like the original.

9:42 The only thing I like to change is I like it to go to the right.

9:46 So now I can take this and I can copy and paste it on this cut point here.

9:52 And then this time because before I had it go to the right,

9:56 this time I want it to go to the left.

9:58 So we have these transitions that are now really cool.

10:02 They connect these different scenes together,

10:04 which is great for a music video or for a vlog.

10:06 But one more quick hack that I have for you is if you

10:10 want to apply that dreamy look to all the different clips in these splits,

10:15 what you can do is you can go over here to dreamy,

10:18 select this, and then you can take these three

10:20 effects by pressing command or control on a PC, copy all three of these.

10:26 You can go over to the split demo and on this nest you can close up,

10:31 select this empty area,

10:33 commandV and now you have the glint effect here and the same thing here.

10:39 Paste it and paste it.

10:40 And so now you have the dreamy kind of faded look on all three splits.

10:46 So obviously I might, you know,

10:47 adjust the timing of this so it doesn't happen so quickly,

10:51 but you guys get the idea here.

10:52 This is a cool way to create split screens fast and add some dreamy effects,

10:58 which is built in, by the way.

12:14 So, this is the photo.

12:15 So, let's go ahead and open this up.

12:17 And we can use any one of these models here.

12:19 So, let's go ahead and let's say uh place an old camcorder.

12:25 Click generate.

12:26 little dance break of course while it generates.

12:29 There we go.

12:29 What's really cool is I can select this and say

12:31 I want to generate a video and you can say

12:34 the young girl holds the camera up to her face.

12:40 Generate.

12:40 All right.

12:41 So, here's the result.

12:42 You can see I'm holding it up.

12:44 Oh, wow.

12:45 That looks so cool.

12:47 Baby gal with her camcorder that she wasn't holding,

12:50 but she loved making videos.

12:53 And it's important to remember that Art List has far more than their AI toolkit.
