Trump speech touts ‘low drug prices’ and lowering ‘cost of living’ during Mother’s Day event

0:24 We're Did everybody get to see the Presidential Walk of Fame?

0:31 And you have some of your favorite presidents there,

0:33 some of your least favorite presidents.

0:35 Some were good, some were great, some were terrible.

0:39 But that's the way life goes, right?

0:41 And you notice the roses.

0:42 This is a rose garden and we added a lot of roses, I will tell you.

0:46 This was This was a rose garden that didn't

0:49 have too many roses and if you look now, we we cornered the market on roses.

0:55 And you deserve them.

0:56 So, thank you for being with us in this beautiful spring,

1:01 this gorgeous spring day, the very famous Rose Garden.

1:05 It's been famous for a long time.

1:07 They they let it get a little bit out of control.

1:10 Uh but uh now it's uh brought back to the highest level and you know,

1:13 where you're standing uh or sitting right now is whitestone.

1:19 And that was grass and the problem with it is you couldn't walk on it

1:23 cuz this is built on a wetland and the grass was always soaking wet.

1:26 It didn't matter.

1:28 It was always soaking wet, absolutely.

1:30 And so uh when Brooke Rollins would get up and start making

1:34 a magnificent speech and she'd be standing in mud and she'd say,

1:39 "I ruined my shoes." Her speeches would never be as good as they

1:42 could have been cuz she was always concerned about ruining her shoes.

1:45 But people would come here,

1:46 women would come with the high heels and it wasn't a pretty picture.

1:50 So, after about 150 years, we gave up on the grass.

1:55 So, we said, "Let's build it so we can use it." And now we have lunches here,

1:59 we have dinners here, and it's nice, and it's cool.

2:01 The The white reflects the sun,

2:04 so you don't uh although it does go in my eye right now, I notice.

2:07 I didn't I didn't anticipate that.

2:10 But uh it's it's a great place.

2:12 It's a great place, and we do news conferences, we do everything.

2:15 And right up here, you probably noticed the new uh black granite.

2:20 And it's uh it's been so well received.

2:23 People can't even believe it cuz the stones

2:25 were all broken and really in bad disrepair.

2:29 And it's be uh it's really become great.

2:31 And we uh added the pictures of the presidents

2:34 from George Washington to a guy named Trump.

2:37 And uh people really they've loved it.

2:40 We call it the presidential wall of fame or walk of fame.

3:04 It's amazing the weekend we celebrate Mother's Day honoring the women

3:09 who raised us and all of the wonderful mothers in our lives.

3:13 So millions of American families,

3:15 Sunday will be filled with love and gratitude and joy.

3:19 Great I had a great mother, by the way.

3:22 And today we're honored to be joined by many strong and truly heroic moms who

3:27 have stood up for their children both in life and in a very profound loss.

3:33 Very very terrible in many just terrible loss many cases.

3:38 And we have a lot of the greatest people on earth.

3:41 Angel moms that were with us today.

3:44 They're great people.

3:45 They've been through so much and I I to know so

3:50 many of you during my first during my first days of running.

3:57 I got to know you and I got to love you.

4:01 But we want to thank you for being here on Mother's Day.

4:04 It's uh one of the great days.

4:07 I always think so fondly of my mother.

4:09 I had a wonderful mother.

4:11 Among those with us this afternoon are a number of the angel moms who saw

4:17 their precious children stolen from them

4:20 by the open border policies of the radical left.

4:25 Open borders, I call them stupid borders, not open.

4:28 I call them stupid borders.

4:31 By stupid people that put them there.

4:34 And the migrant criminals that let they let

4:37 them pour into our country and bad things happened.

4:41 Bad things happened.

4:43 25 million people came into our country.

4:46 Many of them were criminals.

4:47 Many of them were murderers.

4:49 They allowed them in with their open border policy of stupidity.

4:53 These incredibly brave and resilient women have turned

4:56 terrible tragedy into unyielding resolve becoming advocates so

5:01 that their mothers do not have to endure

5:04 the same heartache that they've felt all their lives.

5:09 They felt for so long.

5:11 They've raised the most beautiful child that is taken

5:14 and they spent so many years in many cases.

5:18 I see some of you for I've known you

5:20 for years and others are unfortunately new members of that club.

5:26 And I say unfortunately, it's a sad thing.

5:29 Should have never happened.

5:30 Should have never happened.

5:32 In their honor, we've rapidly turned the worst and most dangerous border

5:36 in the history of our country into the strongest border in American history.

5:40 We have no people come in during the last 11 months.

5:43 We have zero.

5:45 Zero.

5:48 Nobody even tries to come up.

5:50 You know, you used to read about the thousands of people

5:54 that would pour in and they'd just come up in caravans.

5:57 I came I think it was my name.

5:58 I came up with it looked like a caravan.

6:01 25, 30,000 people pouring up.

6:04 They walk through Mexico.

6:06 They come from all different locations.

6:07 Come from all over the world, actually.

6:10 But they came in through our southern border and they'd

6:12 come up and I just let them walk in.

6:15 They'd walk in Nobody had any idea who they were.

6:17 They were murderers.

6:19 11,888 murderers.

6:22 They were allowed to come into our country.

6:24 country.

6:24 We've gotten a lot of them out.

6:26 Uh many of them murdered more than one person.

6:29 What a shame.

6:30 What a disgusting shame that people can even

6:33 think that this is okay is pretty incredible.

6:37 But for the past 12 months we've had that's been our number.

6:41 And these numbers are done by uh people that uh the numbers

6:45 when they when I say zero I mean I actually mean zero.

6:48 It's hard to believe, actually.

6:50 But they're done by people that are They tend to be somewhat on the left.

6:55 So they're not going to give us a fair shake.

6:58 And they say that you know,

7:00 people they'll come anymore cuz they know they're not going to get through.

7:04 So when they know they're not going to get through, they just don't come.

7:06 And just on that we save a lot of lives cuz

7:08 some of that journey up from Honduras and El Salvador and lots

7:14 of other countries or from the Congo where they drop them

7:18 there and they walk up and they come through our country.

7:21 They emptied the prisons of the Congo

7:24 into the area of the southern border and then told them to just walk in because

7:29 stupid Americans are going to accept you beautifully.

7:32 And these were hard uh mean, vicious criminals they allowed into our country.

7:38 How anybody can vote for to people is hard to believe, okay?

7:42 it's hard to believe.

7:43 But to a friend of mine, Mary Ann Mendoza.

7:50 I got to know you right from the beginning, right?

7:54 And I I won't ask her that, but I I would often ask,

7:58 "Is it easier with time?" Because time has gone by.

8:06 and but a lot of people say it's not.

8:51 for coming in Um I don't think you've been treated treated properly.

8:56 It's It's hard to believe, but the angel moms have not been treated properly.

9:01 But this president treats you properly.

9:04 I can't speak for others.

9:06 But this one treats you properly.

9:09 And we love you all and um all I can say is our hearts

9:14 are out to you on Mother's Day and you have a good Mother's Day.

9:16 Go and have a good Mother's Day.

9:19 In securing our border, we've also made tremendous strides in stopping

9:24 the flow of illegal drugs into our country.

9:27 The flood of deadly fentanyl across our border is down by 59%

9:33 and the drugs coming in by sea are down by 97%.

9:38 97% [applause] and we're trying to figure out who the 3%

9:43 are because they are the bravest people on Earth.

9:46 You see how we stop them by sea.

9:48 You know, for years they'd go and catch the boat, bring them to court,

9:52 they'd go in, they'd go out,

9:53 by the time the evening they'd be back in another boat bringing drugs in.

9:58 So, we gave them warning and we don't do that anymore.

10:00 We do it much more much more efficiently.

10:05 But, think of that, down by by sea.

10:08 A lot of them came in, about 50%.

10:11 It's down 97.

10:12 Now, we've started a very strong The sea was more difficult.

10:17 And now we've started land and that's you'll see it

10:20 coming down down to it's come come down a lot, but you'll see it coming down.

10:25 They come through Mexico for the most part.

10:27 We have a a problem because the cartels rule Mexico and nobody else.

10:34 The cartels they they just rule it.

10:36 And you know, we lose 200,000 people a year

10:40 through this poison that pours into our country.

10:44 So, we have the sea done, meaning the ocean, waterways, pretty much done,

10:49 97% and we're going to have the land done very soon.

10:53 I want to thank the brave moms fighting the epidemic of drug addiction here,

10:58 addiction, and this afternoon including Ann Funder.

11:24 And a friend of mine, Jackie Siegel, who's a great great mom, great mother.

11:32 She looks better now than she did 20 years ago, right?

11:37 Last summer, it was my great honor to sign the Halt Fentanyl Act into law

11:44 and we're never give up on that mission for ending the drug epidemic in America.

11:51 We've come a long way that we've we've

11:54 stopped massive amounts of drugs from coming in.

11:57 This afternoon, we're also joined by some of the most extraordinary

12:01 mothers our nation has ever produced are cherished Gold Star moms.

12:05 These are Gold Star moms.

12:08 These mothers raised up children so selfless

12:11 and so devoted that they volunteered to wear

12:14 the uniform of our nation and lay down their lives for all of us.

12:19 One of those mothers is Janice Chance.

12:22 Janice, where is Janice?

12:25 Thank you.

12:26 Thank you, Janice.

12:27 Hi, you look great.

12:29 That's a beautiful hat.

12:31 Thank you, Janice.

12:32 Who lost her son, Marine Captain Jesse Melton.

12:37 And I heard he was an outstanding They They

12:41 give me lists and they tell me about people,

12:43 you know, they said that Jesse was outstanding, Janice.

12:47 They have the word outstanding.

12:50 Thank you for being here.

12:50 Just before he went to Afghanistan in 2008, Jesse told his mother, "Mom,

12:57 I want to go change the world and make it an even better place.

13:01 I want to make it a better place,

13:03 Mom." Just before his 30th birthday, even though he had the day off,

13:08 Jesse volunteered to take the place of a fellow Marine

13:12 and that of his brother-in-arms could be present for the birth of a daughter.

13:17 That day, Jesse gave his life for our country.

13:21 Jesse was struck down that day by helping somebody else.

13:26 And Janice, I want to say America is a strong and free nation today because

13:31 of people like your great son and we want to thank you for being here.

13:34 Thank you very much.

13:38 I also want to express my love for the moms with us whose

13:42 extraordinary heroes gave their lives in the terrorist

13:44 attack at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan.

13:47 I got to know you very well.

13:50 Very well.

13:52 And uh these are phenomenal people.

13:55 We went to uh a club I own in Bedminster, New Jersey, which is beautiful.

14:00 They played music.

14:01 They said, "You actually think he's coming out?" I said,

14:04 "Yes." And I was going to do just a stop by and say hello.

14:07 And we ended up listening to music for 4 hours on that beautiful

14:11 that beautiful night uh looking

14:14 at the sky thinking about those wonderful people.

14:18 Abbey Gate, very well known.

14:20 Should have never happened.

14:21 That should have never happened.

14:23 That was incompetence by the Biden administration.

14:26 So, to Alice Lopez, you know that, right?

14:29 Yeah, we know that.

14:31 To Alicia Lopez and Paula Knauss-Self Coral Briseno

14:40 and to all of the Abbey Gate moms, we're thinking of you on this Mother's Day.

14:45 And uh again, we we had you to the White House.

14:49 We had you to uh I was over at a very beautiful cemetery.

14:55 As beautiful as they can be, but you know, sad occasion.

14:59 We went over and we paid our respects, but we lost great people that day.

15:08 We shouldn't have lost any people that day.

15:11 Gross incompetence.

15:14 This Mother's Day, we're thinking of all

15:17 of those incredible moms and we're doing everything in our power to support them

15:22 and millions of other mothers all across America.

15:26 And we're blessed to have many wonderful mothers serving in this administration

15:31 administration including Secretary of Agriculture Brooke

15:35 Rollins who's doing a phenomenal job.

15:41 And the first woman ever to serve as a White House Chief of Staff,

15:46 she's become a legend, Susie Wiles.

15:55 She's amazing.

15:56 To help American families and mothers, we passed a great big beautiful bill,

16:00 the largest tax cuts in American history.

16:03 We expanded the child tax credit to $2,200 from a much lower number

16:10 per child and delivered the largest

16:14 expansion of school choice in American history.

16:16 We have school choice all over now.

16:18 We didn't have You had virtually none.

16:21 Everybody loves school choice with accounts.

16:24 We have a very special thing,

16:26 the Trump accounts where we're helping families to set

16:29 aside tax advantage savings for their children's future and we

16:34 are giving every American newborn child $1,000 automatically to invest

16:40 and to grow over the course of their lives.

16:44 And I want to thank the Dell family.

16:46 It's a great family.

16:48 He is uh amazing.

16:50 She is amazing.

16:51 They They've done such a job such a job on that.

16:56 They put up a lot of money, too.

16:58 Put up 6 billion 250 million.

17:00 That's somebody and he started making computers

17:04 on his bed in college and selling

17:06 them cuz they were better than other computers that he just I said,

17:09 "How did you do that?" He said, "Well, I did it and I just never stopped.

17:12 It just kept going." So, go out and buy a Dell.

17:16 They're great.

17:17 We're also working to make it easier than ever before

17:20 to start a family by lowering the price of IVF,

17:25 cutting regulatory battles and barriers,

17:28 and fighting to bring down the cost of living so that more Americans can

17:33 pursue the dream of and that's a dream of living just a good life.

17:38 Maybe a great life.

17:40 Uh we cut drug prices now with the favored nations,

17:44 most favored nations, we cut them by 70, 80, 90%.

17:49 You could say 500%, 600 depending on the way you phrase the statement.

17:55 But we now play so we When I was here, this was a big ambition.

18:01 Right at the beginning, I was able able to cut them a little bit,

18:04 but I didn't cut them.

18:06 I cut them more than anybody else, which was a little bit.

18:10 Cuz for 28 years, drug prices and prescription drugs only went in one direction.

18:15 And when I came back, we now did something that everybody said was impossible.

18:21 Favored nations.

18:23 We had the highest drug prices in the world by far.

18:29 Now we have the lowest drug prices in the world.

18:34 Can you imagine?

18:35 So we cut them by 50, 60, 70%.

18:41 And uh go out and you'll see exactly is one of the big

18:45 I think it's one of the best biggest things that we've done.

18:48 Uh drugs that were costing in London $10 for a pill

18:54 would cost $130 for a pill in the United States.

18:59 And now, if it's $10 or if it's $20, that's what we pay.

19:03 We pay the lowest price anywhere in the world.

19:06 So it's great.

19:07 And the the fake news doesn't want to write about it,

19:10 but that's why I talk about it, because we have no choice.

19:13 We have to.

19:14 So, I just want to again, I want to thank everybody for being here.

19:18 It's so important we do things like we keep men out of women's sports,

19:25 a very popular issue.

19:51 because when you love it, it's not a job, but let's for this purpose,

19:54 you have the most important job there is in America or any place else,

19:59 and you're doing an incredible job.

20:05 and for those mothers that lost their child, many of whom are with us today,

20:10 the angel moms and others, Gold Star moms, we love you especially.
