0:40 doesn't look as good as the more silhouette, you know, nice bumper.

0:47 This is specifically E30 BMWs.

0:52 American spec E30 BMWs cuz they have that chrome bumper

0:55 protruding out of a plastic bumper and it just looks terrible.

0:59 Um, so if you push it in, it makes it a little

1:01 bit more flush and uh just looks a little bit better,

1:04 but doesn't really change the fact that you drive a BMW.

1:17 behaved BMW drivers are on the road, but guess what?

1:31 If I understand correctly, these bumpers were more for low-eed collisions,

1:36 I mean, it just it just takes away that slight give,

1:39 you know, that helps you notice that you hit something.

1:57 It probably doesn't work as good anymore, but you crash that thing,

2:02 And as we all know with anything car related,

2:04 it's always, you know, form over function.

2:09 Yeah, it may barely run, but that doesn't mean it has to be quiet.

2:12 So, let's DIY an exhaust.

2:14 I started by cutting out the existing exhaust with a cut off wheel.

2:16 I had to finish with a saw because the cutting wheel wasn't big enough.

2:19 I used some DY oil to get the mufflers off the rubber hangers,

2:22 and that worked pretty well.

2:22 And with this monstrosity off the car, I had to see how it sounded.

2:29 Awful.

2:29 It didn't sound half bad,

2:30 but I had a feeling that was going to change as soon as I finished.

2:32 I had to modify some existing pieces to get everything to fit.

2:35 But once I had it all mocked up, I was pretty confident.

2:38 I was going to clamp everything together,

2:39 but then I remembered I have a welder, so I figured I'd try that.

2:41 I cleaned up the surface a little bit and I got to work.

2:44 This is only my second time welding.

2:45 The first time went horribly and this time didn't

2:48 go much better because the welds are questionable at best.

2:51 But hey, it's in one piece and I think it's pretty durable cuz I

2:53 threw it on the ground a bunch of times and it held up fine.

2:55 So it might not be pretty, but it works.

2:57 Then I started connecting everything back to the car.

2:59 I used a clamp to connect my makeshift exhaust to the existing

3:02 exhaust and I used some hanger straps to hold up the back end.

3:04 Then finally, to make this thing somewhat presentable,

3:06 I threw on some dual chrome exhaust tips.

3:08 I had zero hope this thing would sound any good,

3:10 but let me know what you think about this $100 exhaust setup.

3:21 Yeah, I mean whatever.

3:23 That face that I had the entire time

3:24 watching that is how I watch every Instagram reel.

3:26 I just am always like questionable, right?

3:30 Well, all right.

3:31 So, number one thing most people do when they're an enthusiast

3:34 and they want a car or they just want attention,

3:36 they make their car louder.

3:38 I have a rule.

3:39 either cut everything out and leave a muffler

3:43 or just lose the muffler and leave everything else.

3:46 That's my rule.

3:48 Yeah, cuz the resonators and the cats and everything like that help tone

3:52 a lot of things down and the muffler uh makes it quieter.

3:56 So, you just get rid of the muffler.

3:58 He did a resonator and a muffler or two mufflers, whatever it is.

4:02 I would say leave one, right?

4:04 Um, now if you're going racing, I say cut everything out, cats, resonators,

4:10 and everything, but get a good muffler that makes the tone sound better.

4:15 And a lot of people, a lot of young people,

4:20 Yeah.

4:20 when they first get their car, they first start modifying,

4:22 they first start doing stuff, THEY JUST GO, "LOW IS GOOD." YEAH.

4:27 And this is like, "No, it's not." It's you're as you grow up you go, hm,

4:33 this is terrible.

4:34 This is not good.

4:35 There there there's a reason music has tone to it and it's not just

4:42 Well, some some of it actually is.

4:43 Some of it is and it's not good.

4:48 Yeah.

4:48 I think our general uh consensus on this clip is it sounds like good DIY though.

4:54 He did it himself.

4:56 Yeah, it it saved them a bunch of money.

4:58 You know, a grinder and paint makes you the welder ain't right.

5:02 Well, but for exhaust, it it doesn't really matter, you know,

5:04 as long as there are no holes in it so you don't get fumes in your car.

5:10 But add a muffler or a resin

5:13 something.

5:14 And if you're 16 and you want to do this, then just do it.

5:16 It's fine.

5:17 Learn your lesson and then, you know, be 18 and do something else.

6:28 So the material I used for this just basic ABS plastic.

6:32 You can order this like hyper mileing.

6:35 Oh, he's got a wheel cover there.

6:36 Yeah, this is actually pretty sick.

6:38 And cardboard.

6:38 And then I went to more secure material.

6:41 These wheel covers is called Die Bond.

6:43 And I got the off-brand thing again just

6:45 from like Home Depot or whatever because it's firm.

6:48 It's better than getting like sheet metal and it

6:51 lets you kind of like shape and ply it.

6:53 And then the little wheel deflectors,

6:54 they're literally just yoga blocks that I cut in half.

6:57 So that's pretty cool.

6:58 Probably like $50 worth of material right there,

7:01 but I've saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars in gas.

7:04 So good investment.

7:06 And then the front, a lot of people just

7:08 keep suggesting some of that blocking off the wheel things.

7:10 Uh, I have active grill shutter.

7:12 So, this is enclosed everything else.

7:16 So, that's how I'm getting

7:19 90onic miles per gallon.

7:21 You think that gives you n is he bull?

7:23 Did he say 90 miles?

7:24 He said 90 plus more to the gallon.

7:36 So, like the this is a different type of modification,

7:38 which this is really cool because Uh we did

7:41 this on big trip where we added some um paneling.

7:44 Yeah, we just did cardboard to try and add some fuel mileage

7:47 to our cars and it it it works like there's this is a science,

7:52 you know, and since this is his daily and he

7:54 just wanted more fuel efficiency and he elongated the car,

7:57 covered the rear wheel and everything.

8:00 I use cheap stuff.

8:01 It stays on the car.

8:03 It doesn't block the tail lights.

8:05 You know, I'm sure he can, you know,

8:07 take the screws off and pull that panel off to get to the wheel if he had to.

8:14 I mean, also, I would say that, you know,

8:16 the the obvious point to all this is that you need

8:19 to be like traveling quite a few highway miles every day, right?

8:22 If you got a long commute, this is wonderful.

8:24 But if you're just in a city, this isn't doing anything for you.

8:28 No, I I'm down with it.

8:31 That's a It is a fully functional like

8:34 modification that he made look like halfway decent.

8:46 he tried to blend it in to the rest of the car.

8:51 Uh the only thing is I think he should add an air dam on the front,

8:54 like an actual lip to increase uh I mean to lower drag and everything.

9:00 And I mean, you probably get even more mileage out of that and drive faster.

9:04 Yeah, your uh tires are like the least aerodynamic thing on your entire vehicle.

9:09 Yeah, that's exactly why covering that rear wheel

9:11 up is cuz it doesn't have to turn.

9:13 So, it's you know, that's a pretty good mod.

9:21 This guy really wanted a spoiler for his car, but not just any spoiler.

9:25 A budget crisis edition.

9:27 When the price tag gave him a heart attack, he said, "Screw it." Literally,

9:37 It like as soon as I hear audio like this, I'm like, I'm out.

9:40 I just can't store.

9:42 He slapped on some cardboard to shape

9:43 it because nothing says aerodynamics like recycled

9:47 pizza boxes and sculpted his dream triangle like a true DIY Michelangelo of the

9:52 dream triangle.

9:53 After letting the foam dry and probably questioning his life choices,

9:57 he sanded it down like it was a fine sculpture

9:59 and slathered it in putty for that almost legit finish.

10:04 Paint job, just carefully avoiding the headlights and license plate because hey,

10:08 he may be reckless, but he's not a criminal.

10:11 And just like that, he's officially part of the foam.

10:14 The hell is this?

10:15 It's even like weirder than most of the ones I usually hear.

10:18 You know, if you're doing that on a entirely otherwise stock vehicle, like why?

10:29 I RESPECT DIY stuff a lot.

10:31 And I think that also if you are the kind of person that like

10:36 uh can take the time to really like try and figure something out,

10:40 I have a lot of respect for that because like even though your initial,

10:45 you know, inventions or DIY projects or whatever may

10:48 not be like perfect or beautiful or whatever it is,

10:51 like if you keep working at it,

10:53 eventually you make something that's like really craft.

10:57 Exactly.

10:57 That that specific one is pretty dumb.

11:00 I think that if you're really building

11:02 your own unique and like specific parts like

11:04 that and like over time you're like learning how to do that and stuff like

11:08 do it.

11:10 That's kind of the big no no here is the foam was a structure.

11:13 Usually you fiberglass use the shape of the foam to fiberglass

11:17 and then you make something that's actually light and you know useful.

11:21 but he just left the foam which is

11:31 Good rule of thumb worth mentioning here,

11:33 any panel on your car that faces the sky,

11:36 probably not a good idea to drill into it for like 95% of the time.

11:47 Worth noting too that uh pretty much any video like this online

14:00 How to make any car louder for free.

14:03 All you got to do remove this sounding.

14:04 Every car comes with this.

14:06 It's completely safe to do.

14:07 The only purpose of this is to insulate the sound.

14:10 it won't affect your hood overheating.

14:12 As you can see, I've done this on my BMW.

14:14 Also, if you do have an intake like this, you'll be able completely free,

14:22 but this mod goes really well with an intake.

14:30 you don't need the hot air intake and don't remove the sound deadening.

14:34 It literally has no benefit to you.

14:36 It is like 4 lb off of a car that has like

14:48 you're not gaining seconds on a lap time.

14:50 You're just going back and forth.

18:39 in the car and hold it at about 6,000 RPM.
