0:00 Whoa.
0:02 I like [music] [music] All right.
0:15 Today we're reacting to the boy group TXT or Tomorrow by Together.
0:19 Most recently, you two reacted to the TXT member Yonjun's solo work.
0:25 Yes.
0:26 Yonjun.
0:26 Yes.
0:26 And this is their title track, Stick with You, or the Korean title being Harum.
0:33 And this is the title track off of their seventh year,
0:35 A Moment of Stillness in the Thorns EP.
0:39 I remember the day they debuted with Crown.
0:43 Yeah, me too.
0:43 I was sitting in
0:45 Don't say it.
0:46 Seventh grade.
0:47 [laughter] One of the members says that they think Stick with You,
0:49 the song is a song that really shows how we
0:52 wanted to stick together and also stick with their fans.
0:54 It's exactly the message that we wanted to convey.
0:57 The song stems from their anxiety about the future.
0:59 Both the music video and lyrics capture themes of desperate attachment,
1:02 anxiety, and fear of loss.
1:04 The song is produced by Slow Rabbit and Jean Rabbit
1:08 along with Will You help me out with these people.

2:02 Yeah.
2:02 Oh my goodness.
2:09 Oh my god.
2:10 She's so pretty.
2:11 I know her.
2:12 Who's she?
2:13 She's an actor.
2:14 Oh, [laughter] what did she tell him?
2:21 That was a jump scare.
2:24 [music] Where is she?
2:29 [laughter] So bouncy.
2:34 Uhhuh.
2:35 [music] Oh, I love these little [music] You should totally ask.
2:47 [music] They have a very similar tone, but the rhythm of this is different.
2:57 Oh, wait.
2:58 She [music] caught it.
3:06 Wow.
3:08 [music] The synth is almost xylophone like
3:18 low trope.
3:19 Oh, I like hold on.
3:23 Are they in a time loop?
3:25 This is a really like just gorgeous like
3:27 soundsscape to them that they've made with the song.
3:28 I think I haven't heard this like low voice trope in a long time.
3:31 Yeah.
3:35 New guy.
3:35 Wait, what?
3:36 No.
3:38 I like how bouncy that [music] like 808 is.
3:41 Yeah.
3:41 It feels almost Tiffany like totally.
3:47 Is she Is are they a ghost?
3:49 Bro, she's saying no to Pumu.
3:51 [music] I'm saying yes to him.
3:53 [laughter]
3:55 That's funny how soft they play the singing is like really effortful.
4:00 It's It's interesting.
4:01 [music] I'm still trying to develop an opinion on it.
4:06 I'm invested.
4:08 That was a little crescendo there.
4:09 That was fun.
4:10 Oh, what?
4:16 [laughter] Okay.
4:23 Wow.
4:22 Is this not the best instrument?
4:24 Sing in the rain.
4:25 Looks like glitter.
4:26 H.
4:27 Oh.
4:28 Oh, wait.
4:28 They're all d Wait, they finally captured her.
4:32 Polygamy.
4:32 Yeah.
4:33 A They're dancing in the rain.
4:36 Major [music] sevenths of joy and reminiscence.
4:41 Oh, it was a fantasy.
4:43 Oh, they've reawaken.
4:44 Oh.
4:55 Oh.
4:55 Oh.
4:59 [music]
5:05 Oh, that's fun.
5:05 Coro.
5:07 Dang.
5:07 Oh, the dance moves are pretty unique.
5:12 [music] Wait, wait, no.
5:15 So that Wait, is it a dream?
5:17 Is it a dream?
5:20 Interesting.
5:20 Oh, I love the arpeggios in the background.
5:22 Those are fun.
5:27 No, let him go.
5:28 What's he going to beat?
5:41 Why is Tai going through it right now?
5:45 Oh, I don't want that.
5:50 Double hangers.
5:51 [music] Wait, I think I missed something really important.
5:59 I felt that in my fingers.
6:01 Yeah, I felt it on [laughter] my shoulder cuz he grabbed me.
6:05 Yeah.
6:05 Look at that.
6:06 Look at that.
6:06 Zumin.
6:07 Zumin.
6:07 They're both zumins.
6:09 Doppelgangers.
6:10 What is happening?
6:16 What?
6:16 Happy seven years.
6:17 TXT.
6:20 Yay.
6:19 Oh.
6:20 Oh.
6:24 Lore.
6:25 Lore.
6:25 Lore.
6:25 Lore.
6:32 Wow.
6:32 Okay.
6:33 [music] I like that.
6:35 Entrancing.
6:36 Wow.
6:37 I thought that was really unique.
6:39 Wait, is it low-key a time loop?
6:41 Before I spoil the story line, what are your like initial thoughts?
6:45 I see they're like dreaming to be with her.
6:49 That's why they're singing like one more date with trying to chase after her.
6:53 I don't even know.
6:54 I'm just making stuff up.
6:55 [laughter]
6:56 So, the girl represented the fans.
7:00 That's all I got.
7:04 [laughter]
7:03 Because the stick the stick is with you.
7:06 Maybe the stick is TXT.
7:08 So they were removing Wait, who was removing from who?
7:11 I don't think we're made for theory.
7:13 Uh, [laughter] do you have a theory for what that represents?
7:16 It's hard to tell.
7:19 Gross.
7:19 It represents nasty.
7:21 It represents I didn't want to watch that.
7:24 It's okay.
7:24 It represents I needed a trigger warning.
7:26 [laughter] Okay, I got it.
7:27 I got it.
7:27 Yeah.
7:28 Yeah.
7:28 Stick in the finger.
7:29 The stick is the anxiety and the stress moment
7:33 and so they're just unsure about their future.
7:36 They remove the stick.
7:37 They're together with the fans again.
7:38 Stick with you.
7:39 What's the lore?
7:40 Please
7:41 enlighten us on the lore.
7:42 Suben is seen as the main character
7:43 and the members are representing other versions of him.
7:46 Basically, they become anxious about their girlfriend
7:49 and they get a thorn in representation representing anxieties.
7:53 So in their mind they play the worst case scenarios over and over in their head
7:58 and they're overthinking of like is she
8:00 cheating on me like she's with another guy.
8:02 Okay, that's what they're seeing some things.
8:04 Okay, great.
8:05 And so every time in the sequence events when one of them becomes stuck,
8:09 the loop repeats and creates another scenario to overcome it.
8:12 So, it wasn't until Kai took the thorn out of his finger, right,
8:17 that they were able to reach the conclusion that the imagery
8:20 of the enemy they were creating in their mind was actually just himself.
8:24 Like it was just himself overthinking
8:27 and imagining someone else when it all along it was just him and she
8:31 was just planning she was just planning
8:32 his like surprise birthday party WITH HIS FRIENDS.
8:34 OH, THAT'S WHY MY [laughter] What captured your attention in the music?
8:46 Yeah.
8:45 I really like how like that rhythm like
8:48 of the melody really maintained [music] this drive
8:51 throughout everything and then was stacked with like
8:53 all these arpeggios and like really bouncy bass.
8:56 So, you just had this like boulder falling down a mountain feel.
8:59 I love the tambber of the synth.
9:00 It's like wooden in a way.
9:01 Like that's what I would say.
9:02 like it sounds um xylophone like xylophone.
9:05 The bass synth I think is very fun a part of the texture.
9:08 It's a pretty sparse texture though, isn't it?
9:10 Yeah.
9:10 So it's just bass drums and voiced.
9:13 There was the transition that I really liked.
9:15 Yeah.
9:15 Like it's just a dream and then the beat like starts dropping.
9:19 I'm like it's like such a like I don't think it's like a club music
9:23 but some kind of like this is a very overall I I'd say a very poppy form.
9:30 So, you know, just verse, precourse, chorus, verse, precourse, chorus
9:33 with post chorus,
9:34 which I mean are very like classic components and form of the song.
9:36 So, they didn't really mess with that general form,
9:38 but they instead added really interesting sounds
9:41 and textures to [music] fill out that form.
9:43 So, it still is very engaging and unique
9:46 even though it's like a very typical song form.
9:49 I really dug the kind the vibe that they got to eventually.
9:52 They kind of built this thing up from the bottom, right?
9:54 So, they had this [music] that kind of started in the beginning, right?
9:59 And that's kind of like they kind of build
10:00 up all the rest of the layers from that.
10:02 And I thought that by the time we get to like the chorus,
10:05 like we kind of end up with this [music] soundsscape that is so like filled,
10:09 you end up like filling like almost all of the space with sound.
10:12 And what kind of can sometimes tend to happen when you do that is that it kind
10:15 of loses it its rhythmic intensity if you
10:17 have too many sounds going on all the time.
10:19 Which is why I really liked what Olivia said.
10:21 You mentioned how the melody had a really rhythmic aspect to it.
10:25 It did.
10:25 like when there's all the sound going,
10:27 I think the voice the the melody just does
10:28 a really good job of propelling the momentum forward.
10:30 And I think that goes for all sections.
10:31 Parts of this would be really hard to sing.
10:33 I think that's such a nice vocal.
10:35 There's so many lovely vocal lines, too,
10:40 cuz you could easily just do like very stepwise motion,
10:44 but interesting that they're using the very
10:46 expressive downwards leaps [music] with the interval leaps.
10:53 That definitely adds some kind of emotion that I would
10:56 say was a little like longing or yearning that you said.
10:59 The chord is aren't changing very much,
11:01 but I think as a result, they rely on the vocal delivery,
11:04 which they have a lot of different opportunities [music]
11:06 and different like larger intervals to really like create expression.
11:10 The melody is very actually like surprisingly complex because it's it's
11:13 kind of consistent and like they're constantly changing the rhythm thing.
11:17 So, I think maybe the melody and this sort of like
11:19 simpler backdrop kind of creates more of like an intimate storytelling moment.
11:24 I will say also kind of contributing to this feeling of just wow,
11:28 we're in like a state of so much sound is the ambiguity of the harmony.
11:32 Aside from having this this [music] you kind of end
11:42 up with the same arpeggios being played over the entire thing.
11:46 It kind of removes the harmonic motion of the baseline and replaces it with just
11:50 this general vibe [music] of uncertainty which I
11:53 think is really kind of fits this piece.
11:54 What's the atmosphere?
11:55 How would you describe it?
11:56 hypnotic and conoto conerpetual motion because of thea
12:02 d and then the reverb that's added.
12:05 It creates [music] this heady sort of atmosphere,
12:08 but there's also these tinkling like major
12:11 7th type arpeggiations [music] in the higher frequency.
12:16 I think that creates like a very psychedelic atmosphere.
12:19 So, I think the whole point of this is to create
12:22 this, is this a dream atmosphere where you're kind of like,
12:25 I don't know if I'm awake or if this is real.
12:28 And that's exacerbated by extreme ranges in pitch and lots of reverb.
12:33 A lot of fans were feeling a lot of emotion listening to this.
12:37 What do you think in like the core
12:38 choice or instrumentation or vocal delivery created that?
12:41 I think they have a lot of opportunities
12:42 here with the difference between like head voice
12:45 and chest voice that it allows for a lot
12:48 of different kind of like densities of sound.
12:50 So like I think they have some more stuff [music] that's expressive and but then
12:53 I think they also like able to make it like a little bit more intimate.
12:57 I also thought the singing was in general across
13:01 the board very cool for the style of music.
13:04 there was like this brightness in the sound
13:07 and bounciness in all of their voices that no
13:09 one was over darkening [music] at all that really
13:12 uh provided this nice like driving forward momentum.
13:15 Thing that I'm interested about is like
13:17 there's often this kind of really just like
13:20 music that's not in the classical genre in general that tends to breathe a lot
13:24 in between lines and like it causes a lot of stamina issues because if you're
13:29 working your breath that much then it makes
13:31 it very hard to get through other lines.
13:33 I I I really dislike the idea that bell conto is the only way to sing.
13:38 In my own opinion, it doesn't matter what genre you're singing.
13:42 It doesn't matter how you're singing so long as it's healthy singing.
13:46 And so what that means to me is is proper foundation of support.
13:50 And it also means singing in a way that's not
13:53 going to damage your vocal cords in the short term.
13:56 The thing is is that whenever I say something is unhealthy,
13:59 it's not saying that I dislike the sound.
14:02 It's more so saying, "Oo,
14:04 that was a sound that I could hear was not supported." Pop music
14:08 in general kind of suffers from this issue where vocal coaches focus more
14:12 on trying to get you to feel where a belt locks in versus
14:17 trying to get you to approach the note in a way that is healthy.
14:21 Now, with that being said, they all have beautiful voices.
14:23 Don't get me wrong.
14:24 Their voices are are still very, very beautiful,
14:26 and there's still a lot of great singing going on.
14:27 I'm just noticing more towards the higher belty pitches,
14:30 there's a tendency to run flat and a tendency
14:32 not to approach the pitch in a correct way.
14:34 And there's stamina issues too with the phrase.
14:37 I think like if you want to have the the breathiness,
14:40 you have to take a really nice big breath and you
14:42 have to have like like still have the breathy onset,
14:45 but it still needs to come from a place of breath support.
14:48 What about that that that string section in the middle?
14:51 Yeah, that was wild.
14:52 This has to be a sample.
14:53 Is it a sample?
14:54 I think it's original soundtrack written for just
14:57 the music video because those sound midi to me.
15:00 H wait, you're right.
15:01 That is really MIDI.
15:03 Yeah, that's so fascinating.
15:05 Do we know who composed that middle?
15:06 That like No, I don't know.
15:08 Someone tell me C pedal.
15:14 Got it.
15:15 [laughter] How would you describe the style of the string arrangement here?
15:19 Very like dreamy.
15:21 H I don't know how to say it in English.
15:25 It's like [music] There's something just really offputting about it.
15:57 And I think that's intentional.
15:58 I think they want they they want it to be just a little bit [music] off-putting.
16:06 Like it's just like like random modal harmony out of nowhere.
16:09 It's beautiful in its imperfection.
16:11 There's a million ways to resolve from E minor to D
16:15 minor without like using that like uh that weird like modal stuff.
16:18 I just like I'm I'm surprised they did it.
16:20 I loved it.
16:21 Felt like that felt like a very intentional choice.
16:23 I thought it was very TXT kind of very earnest in a way.
16:27 Like I feel like it's very just being honest kind of song.
16:31 I just like those chords.
16:33 Not the chords of this [music] beautiful major 7.
16:35 Yeah.
16:35 And it's like Disney.
16:37 Yeah.
16:38 Romance.
16:42 But oh, I love the string drop there.
16:44 The flat six that come.
16:45 I will say that descending chord progression sick.
16:47 Love that.
16:48 I was listening to this.
16:49 I was like, "Oh, I'm feeling something." Like, it's just a dream.
