The Pat McAfee Show

0:04 The following program is a collection of studios

0:07 talking about happenings in the sports world.

0:10 It is meant to be comedic and informative.

0:12 The opinions expressed on this show do

0:14 not necessarily reflect the beliefs of their peers, their boss, or ESPN.

0:20 There may be some cuss words because that's how humans in the real world talk.

0:25 If you are a young, please seek permission before watching any further.

0:32 Hey.

0:33 Why?

0:34 Let's go.

0:37 This show stinks, and the fact that you listen, we are very, very thankful for.

0:41 McAfee on the [cheering] line with a gorgeous assistant.

0:44 The all-time leading tackler for the Green Bay Packers.

0:47 You think?

0:50 START UP!

0:51 DAMN IT!

0:52 YOU FRIEND [music] TELL A FRIEND SOMETHING NICE, could change their life.

1:00 with an REL.

1:02 [music] Welcome to the Pat McAfee show.

1:03 I'm A.J.

1:03 Hawk sitting in at Pat's desk as he

1:06 will be joining us from Midtown [music] Manhattan.

1:08 That's big time, boys.

1:09 Yeah.

1:10 That's the offices of the NFL.

1:13 Sports!

1:15 All right, so what we're doing, Pat?

1:16 Obviously, you got a beautiful setup there.

1:18 I know you're in Midtown Manhattan.

1:19 I guess tell the people what you're doing,

1:21 what's going on, and and what this setup is all about.

1:24 A.J., thank you for traveling over

1:25 there to beautiful Indianapolis alongside the boys.

1:27 Boys, Bruce and I have certainly been big city

1:30 boys for about the last 12 hours or so.

1:32 We certainly wish you were here,

1:34 but obviously coming over here to speak at Disney's upfronts, okay?

1:38 Disney upfronts is where all the advertising agencies in the world

1:41 come and watch what your network is doing or planning on doing.

1:45 Very lucky to be a part of it.

1:46 The College GameDay boys and I are going to do our thing up there.

1:49 Now, on that note, had to travel out here.

1:51 We've been doing a lot of suity stuff.

1:52 I'm be like, "Hey, hey, it's been a super suity day,

1:55 I shall say." And Bruce Brown is all the way

1:57 big city suit and everything that he's got going.

2:00 Actually, take a little look see here at Bruce.

2:01 Look at Bruce.

2:02 He's got He took the jacket What's going on, boys?

2:04 Took the jacket off.

2:05 I've no idea if our logo is blown out like it looks like on our thing,

2:09 but know that it is us and the NFL have come together here.

2:12 And this all came together pretty quickly because we're going to be in New York

2:17 and we're going to potentially be at the home of where Disney's up fronts are,

2:19 which is a beautiful place.

2:21 And then we reach out to the NFL we're like, "Hey,

2:23 can we do a show there?" And one thing led to another,

2:25 we're at the Art McNally Game Day Central.

2:28 Okay, this is where [laughter] all the replays happen.

2:29 This is where it all happens.

2:31 There's a man named Mr.

2:32 Butter.

2:32 Okay, I've learned about him.

2:34 Over the last few years he has become the replay afficionado.

2:37 This is his actual desk that he uses.

2:39 Normally placed over here.

2:41 And then they got workers watching every single game and they

2:43 have every single feed at every single game that they possibly have.

2:47 Just kind of eyeballing everything.

2:48 And there's a touch screen back here.

2:50 Mr.

2:50 Butter will certainly come over here and explain more.

2:53 But we're talking about eyes on every single

2:55 game and getting a chance to kind of see how the operation flows and how it all

2:58 works here rather quickly before we went live.

3:01 It's just a dream come true.

3:02 Law power in this room.

3:03 Law power in this room.

3:05 This desk right here has made some decisions that have

3:09 made some people happy and broke some others dreams.

3:14 There's a lot of power in here.

3:15 There's a lot of technology.

3:16 The future is obviously very evident here.

3:18 And the NFL offices are absolutely beautiful.

3:20 We're down here in midtown.

3:21 We took the 7 train down in the Grand Central Station.

3:24 We're up at Hudson Yards.

3:25 We was at Carbone last night.

3:27 Stopped at EZ's club.

3:29 I gave praise at the Mecca to the Brunson boiler.

3:33 I go down to Madison Square Garden today.

3:34 We've been walking around.

3:36 I had a nice New York coffee at Starbucks.

3:38 Ooh.

3:39 I really I've been doing it all.

3:41 We've been enjoying it.

3:43 too?

3:42 That's right.

3:44 Genuine slice?

3:46 If I seen tomorrow, which I did not,

3:47 I would certainly stop by and get a pepperoni.

3:49 But you can tell the sense of city and sense

3:51 of community seemingly back and sports seemingly does that.

3:54 I wish we would have been here and Nick's game could have

3:56 potentially been tonight to close out if the 76ers didn't just get swept,

3:59 but this city obviously feels alive.

4:01 I have not seen Okay, I'd like to make this announcement cuz

4:05 I don't think it gets talked about enough.

4:07 I have not seen one human dump Really?

4:11 on any sidewalk.

4:13 I have not seen I None of that.

4:19 Anywhere?

4:18 Anywhere.

4:19 Down in the subway?

4:20 Down in the subway.

4:20 I'm on the internet.

4:21 I see what's possible.

4:22 Okay?

4:23 Spider-Man senses all the way up.

4:24 Okay, we're doing it.

4:25 Cleanest, nicest I've ever It was It was beautiful.

4:28 All right, now you're full of Yeah.

4:30 I'M TELLING YOU.

4:31 I AM TELLING YOU.

4:32 NOW LISTEN, Big City Bruce is obviously going to spin this web regardless,

4:35 but it is beautiful over here.

4:37 Very nice.

4:38 The Hudson Yards area brand spanking new.

4:40 So that subway station probably about, you know, two, three, three years old,

4:44 but it was sparkling clean down there and and pretty smooth.

4:47 Little delay, but you know, that's seven train football.

4:49 Yeah, Bruce said we'd be here in 20 minutes.

4:51 We're certainly 32, 33 minutes as the seven train just stopped working,

4:55 which I guess is a part of the business, but the city's alive.

4:58 It is beautiful.

4:58 The weather is perfect and the NBA

5:00 NHL playoffs continue to deliver for us, boys.

5:03 Now, AJ, I know we were all watching last night.

5:06 I was actually in a I was in New York City social club.

5:10 Wow.

5:11 What?

5:11 What's that mean, social club?

5:15 I saw art from the Met that was on the wall.

5:17 Okay?

5:17 They pulled art from the Met that was on the wall.

5:19 Gala?

5:20 Okay.

5:20 Yeah, but I don't know.

5:22 It seemed the way they talked to me,

5:23 guy named Noah was showing me around, had a good suit on, had a ponytail,

5:27 had that thing braided up, was telling me about all the benefits of being

5:30 a part of this particular club down at Carbone.

5:33 And I'll tell you he was selling a good web.

5:34 He was selling a good thing.

5:36 Walked through there, seen some financial bros having a time of their life.

5:39 Get a jack and diet over here.

5:41 A veal parm from the Oh, and there's some spicy rigatone that I

5:45 certainly see my toilet at about 4:30 a.m.

5:47 but when it was going down, it was the best tasting thing I had ever had.

5:51 It was wonderful.

5:52 Got to see all the sports right there.

5:54 Had TVs everywhere.

5:55 It was as if we were in sports fantasy sports dreams.

5:58 And you can't help but wonder,

5:59 was that the last time we're going to see LeBron James, A.J.?

6:02 That's the big conversation.

6:03 Is that the last time we're going to see LeBron?

6:05 I sure hope not, H.

6:07 This has kind of been talked about all morning.

6:08 I feel like we've seen it obviously all over the internet.

6:11 The conversation is is this last time he walked off the postgame presser?

6:14 Now, the people that hate LeBron James will say, "Well,

6:17 this is fun that he won't clarify any of this because this takes attention away

6:20 from his team getting swept by the Oklahoma City

6:23 Thunder." Said it at the end of last year,

6:24 too, like, "Oh, LeBron James, maybe he retires.

6:27 This takes the attention away from the Lakers being ass." It's like this year,

6:30 what he was able to accomplish without Luka Dončić,

6:32 obviously, who came out afterwards and said like if I could have played,

6:34 I would have played.

6:35 But what LeBron was able to do at the age of 41,

6:37 I think we all had to show respect, even if you were a LeBron hater.

6:42 And then the way that could have ended 10:30 on Prime ass kicked.

6:46 I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I He's not going out like that, right?

6:49 could have won.

6:49 He's not going out like that.

6:50 Yeah, I I don't think so.

6:52 I just don't It didn't feel like it to me, H.

6:54 Did it feel like to you?

6:55 And and maybe we're completely wrong,

6:56 but that just didn't feel like how that thing would

6:58 end as somebody that's been watching this since high school.

7:01 Yeah, I'm I'm with you.

7:01 And I mean, I I just can't imagine that LeBron wants

7:05 to go out that way with how well he played this year.

7:07 We saw like we he put the team on his back

7:09 when Luka and Reaves get hurt early in the playoffs.

7:11 Obviously, Luka doesn't come back.

7:12 Reaves comes back, but the fact that LeBron can still do it the way he can.

7:16 Now, we don't know how he feels physically.

7:18 Obviously, he's out there doing it.

7:19 We don't know how he finds a way in between games to get healthy enough,

7:22 but is he Is it Lakers or bust or could

7:25 he possibly go somewhere else or put in play?

7:27 I would hope he could go somewhere else.

7:29 I mean, he he mentioned it last night.

7:31 Would he go somewhere else?

7:32 Yeah, I mean, that that would be the other conversation.

7:34 But he mentioned it last night like, "Hey,

7:35 this is the first time not just in my NBA career,

7:38 but in my life where I wasn't the first option, the second option.

7:41 I was the third option for parts of this season.

7:44 So, that was kind of new to him.

7:45 Now, would he want to come back and do that again?

7:47 Maybe.

7:48 Would he want to go somewhere else and be the number two option?

7:51 Or maybe the number one option again.

7:53 I don't know because of his age, to your point.

7:55 But as someone who started, you know,

7:58 their fanhood career being a LeBron hater and now have

8:03 come full circle and then I'm a fan of LeBron.

8:05 I think he I think he should get a kind of a, you know, retirement tour?

8:10 You what?

8:11 Would you want that?

8:12 Like would you want that if you were in LeBron's situation?

8:14 I don't know.

8:15 I think LeBron, he deserves it, you know.

8:18 It'd be weird though, wouldn't it?

8:19 Like every game every game they go out they give you something.

8:23 Yeah, but Yeah, it'd be it'd be great for the NBA.

8:25 It'd be we'd all talk about it.

8:26 the last one?

8:27 Like Jeter was Jeter the last one?

8:28 the that had that whole full year and that's 162 games though.

8:32 That's a lot.

8:33 Every team every game doing something.

8:35 Here that's why this I feel like LeBron would

8:37 be cool cuz may maybe they don't do that.

8:39 But I mean if when he goes back

8:40 to Cleveland they retire 23 while he's still playing.

8:44 I feel like that would be cool if they haven't already.

8:46 wants to come back he wants to come back and try to get a ring.

8:48 He's not trying to come back to get a curtain call and and have them retire,

8:51 you know, give him flowers and weird gifts from your every city he goes to.

8:55 Yeah, he talking about like the process and some some

8:57 comments that MJ made when he was talking to Turico

9:00 about how he still is in love with the game

9:02 and you know how a lot of players say,

9:04 "Yeah, I miss, you know, the game on Sundays but I don't miss, you know,

9:07 getting practice and rehab and all this other shit." So,

9:10 but I mean he he's been one of one 23 years.

9:12 If he comes back for a 24th and gets that farewell tour, I think he deserves it.

9:15 But I wouldn't be shocked if he just goes off

9:19 into the night and just starts his freaking golf brand,

9:22 just starts golfing, spending time with the family,

9:24 spending time with the wife, watching his sons and daughter play ball.

9:28 Whatever he does, obviously, you know, take your time and do it.

9:30 But he's been great getting swept.

9:32 That's not the way you want to go out.

9:33 But I mean at this point, you know, going to year 24,

9:36 what situation can you see him going

9:38 into and really contending to compete for a championship?

9:41 I don't know.

9:42 What if OKC brought him on?

9:44 Join that.

9:44 All of a sudden he wants to join OKC instead of the Spurs, something like that.

9:47 This is the fourth time he got fourth time he got swept, correct?

9:50 And we talked about it every every other time that team went on to win it all.

9:53 Yeah, the first three.

9:54 You think OKC Tell me about you.

9:56 You think OKC Yeah, of course.

9:58 But do you think they're actually going to do it?

9:59 So, they are the favorites to do it obviously cuz

10:02 they were the best team in the NBA this season.

10:05 Um but when you look at it, okay or sorry,

10:08 the Spurs were four and one against OKC this season.

10:10 They were literally the only team that OKC had a problem with this season.

10:14 So, if the Spurs, who have a big one tonight, are able to get past Minnesota,

10:18 then maybe like that's obviously

10:20 the the biggest potential with Wemby being there.

10:22 But if it's not the Spurs versus OKC or if the Knicks say stay super

10:26 hot and they run into the Knicks potentially in the in the in the finals,

10:30 then maybe the Knicks if they keep shooting like they are.

10:32 But if not, we're looking at a repeat champion.

10:35 Yeah, Bruce Brown isn't here.

10:35 He's obviously in in Midtown with Pat.

10:38 But Deebo, what do you think of this Knicks team?

10:39 You think they're going to stay Think they stay hot?

10:41 I They have to.

10:42 They they shocked me.

10:43 I thought the Sixers would give them a little run.

10:45 I know Joel Embiid wasn't fully healthy,

10:47 but I don't think it would have mattered with how they've been playing,

10:49 how they've been shooting, how they're playing on both ends of the court.

10:52 OG, if he gets back in there as well, like this Knicks team I'm shocked.

10:56 You know, Jalen Brunson, we always the conversation is, "Hey,

10:59 can you have a guy that size be the best

11:02 player on a championship-winning team?" I guess we'll see this year.

11:05 They'll be fully rested when they go into their next round.

11:07 But uh yeah, I got I got a lot more faith

11:10 in the Knicks than I had before coming into even this 76ers series.

11:13 Yeah, I do.

11:13 I think the Knicks are have like that They got something going on like

11:16 this massive confidence from the top to the bottom of that roster, I think.

11:21 That's what's most so impressive.

11:22 I mean, OG goes out and it's like they don't skip a beat.

11:25 And he's like the heartbeat of that team.

11:27 We talked with so many people that know the game and say say hey,

11:30 OG is doing so many things that we don't really

11:32 know that we don't even understand the impact that he has.

11:35 It's just impressive what this Knicks team has done.

11:37 I know Bruce Brown, you know, he'll have a heart attack and and want to jump

11:40 off a roof if the Knicks somehow take a step back,

11:43 but I don't I don't see any reason why they would take a step back right now.

11:47 Well, and they've done it kind of every year.

11:48 They they are kind of similar to the Celtics in that, you know,

11:51 sense when it comes to the progression over the last

11:53 6 years where they they have gone from round

11:56 two to the Eastern Conference Finals and now maybe

11:58 they'll make it to the finals and see what happens.

12:00 Yeah.

12:00 I think Pat, we worked through some difficulty.

12:01 Oh, you crystal clear.

12:03 What would they do?

12:04 What happened?

12:05 I'm telling you.

12:05 I there was some connection stuff.

12:07 Their computer got swapped out, I believe.

12:08 Zito sitting in uh his OG chair.

12:11 I believe we would call that Zito position for Bruce.

12:14 Swapped out a computer, I think, in there.

12:15 There's a lot of chaos over here.

12:16 I think we swapped out a computer over here.

12:18 From my understanding, we took a clean good computer that we trust over here.

12:21 We plugged that thing in and we certainly got that good as we did back in Indy.

12:25 What I'm saying is good to see you guys.

12:27 I couldn't see anything last time.

12:28 And wow.

12:30 It is.

12:31 Look at the room I'm in, boys.

12:32 You know, it was I I think it was

12:33 hard for you guys to fully respect what's going on.

12:35 Every single feed to every single stadium camera is coming to them live.

12:39 I know there's a kind of a uh a little bit of a narrative,

12:42 potentially, that the TV networks decide what the replay is, what it is.

12:46 They got all the feeds.

12:47 They got all the feeds on here.

12:48 They can swipe it in.

12:49 Swipe.

12:49 See swipe.

12:50 See Guess what they're using?

12:53 Xbox controllers.

12:54 Yeah, it's just like the submarine.

12:55 Yeah.

12:56 Yeah, exactly.

12:58 No, the one that blew up.

13:00 Yeah, it imploded.

13:01 It imploded, but yeah.

13:02 I think it was PlayStation.

13:03 It was terrible.

13:03 It was a terrible situation.

13:04 No, I think it was Xbox.

13:05 Oh, okay.

13:05 This is not the the the shoe box

13:08 that that billionaire took everybody down to go see Titanic in.

13:11 Mhm.

13:12 Ocean Gate.

13:12 Thank you.

13:13 Rest in peace, by the way.

13:14 know how to use that Xbox controller for replays?

13:16 So, that's what I asked.

13:18 It's not old.

13:19 Okay, it was one of my first questions.

13:21 It's 20s, I believe, up to like I think 40 would be accurate.

13:25 How old is Mr.

13:25 Butter?

13:27 Mr.

13:27 Butter, will you please come over here, please?

13:28 Mr.

13:28 Butter, the boys would like to ask you some questions.

13:30 I would as well.

13:32 Oh, he's not old.

13:32 Oh, he's Dennis, you got control of camera that can get

13:34 over to uh here if he would start to work here.

13:36 Pretty old.

13:39 [laughter] Okay, my man.

13:38 Mr.

13:39 Butter?

13:39 Pleasure.

13:40 Pleasure's all mine.

13:41 Hey, why don't you uh just let me see what the uh Boom.

13:44 Look at that's your Look at that's your monster right there.

13:46 Look how good You said he looks old, he looks young.

13:48 He doesn't look that old.

13:49 How old is he?

13:49 Was he 29?

13:50 How old is he?

13:51 Mr.

13:52 Mr.

13:52 Butter, how long have you been working with the NFL?

13:54 27 years.

13:55 Should we turn his uh Could we turn his Can you hear him?

13:58 Yeah.

13:58 Yeah, we got him.

13:59 Okay, good.

14:00 I can't hear him.

14:00 Sweet.

14:00 Okay, so Mr.

14:02 Butter, um 27 years with the NFL.

14:04 What if you Do you come from the officiating ranks?

14:06 How do you get into the replay uh czar position, if you will?

14:10 Um I just I grew up in the replay When replay came back in 1999 in the NFL,

14:14 I was fortunate enough to get a job as a game day assistant and work my way up.

14:18 Uh 14 years as a communicator,

14:20 then seven seven as a replay assistant, then seven as a replay official.

14:25 Okay, so as a communicator and then replay official, how much has it evolved?

14:30 Because right now I'm seeing this.

14:31 The narrative that the TV networks decide what you get to see,

14:35 how you get to see, they're showing you the replays,

14:37 you're watching along with everybody else.

14:38 Couldn't be more false, it feels like.

14:40 It feels like what I'm seeing here is access to everything in a stadium,

14:43 and you and your team are making decisions

14:45 in real time throughout all of these games.

14:47 Actually, Pat, you are correct.

14:49 Uh what you're seeing at home,

14:50 you're relying on the broadcast feed from the networks.

14:53 And actually, we have every available camera

14:55 angle from the networks in real time.

14:58 We're actually seeing it before you see it at home.

15:00 Our our lag time is less than a second.

15:02 Lag time for broadcasting is about 5 seconds into the homes.

15:06 Hey, don't tell the government that.

15:08 [laughter] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

15:09 They're going to add that to the entire conversation is taking place.

15:11 More laggy lag, but on that note, direct pipes into the trucks,

15:15 into the cameras, which is obviously smart

15:16 for the game because the efficiency is real.

15:18 Whenever you get in here, what is Is it Xbox controller?

15:21 Is there somebody that's monitoring every game,

15:22 and then you're kind of overseeing it?

15:24 How does the process work?

15:25 Yes, in the 1:00 window, 1:00 window is usually nine or 10 games.

15:28 4:00 is usually five or six games.

15:31 What we have is we have a replay assistant sitting at every station and then we

15:34 have dedicated supervisors and decision makers for typically

15:38 up to three games in the 1:00 window.

15:41 Okay, so when you're making these decisions,

15:43 you're saying what you think is right.

15:46 I I forget the the pass interference conversation.

15:48 What is egregious or obvious or something like that was the standard that was

15:53 kind of changing it from being able to be overturned or not being overturned.

15:57 Is it now still at the point where we

15:58 need it to be grossly obvious to overturn for instance?

16:02 We just saw in the VAR in the English What was it Gumpy?

16:06 The Premier League, the Europa League, the Champions League?

16:08 It was in the English Premier League, yeah.

16:11 It was for the Championship, too, wasn't it?

16:12 It was for Arsenal to stay in first with two games left in the season.

16:16 Okay, you know this.

16:17 You obviously seen this.

16:18 Do you keep up with all the replays?

16:20 So, okay.

16:20 Now, that's a Hotspur's fan right there that said that's a good call.

16:24 that's a Gooner.

16:25 Yeah, okay, a Gooner, sorry.

16:27 Not a Tottenham Hotspur Gooner.

16:28 Sorry about that.

16:30 But, you obviously watch all those things.

16:31 The The reason why everybody gets mad is like, that wasn't obvious.

16:34 That wasn't obvious to overturn a call.

16:37 For you, is that what you're looking for?

16:38 You're just trying to get it right and whatever you

16:39 think is right is what we're going to go with.

16:41 And I Can I give you my opinion?

16:42 Please.

16:43 Just get it right.

16:44 I don't care if it's over and obvious.

16:45 Just get it right.

16:46 I think you have the ability to do that and I trust you

16:48 at this point after talking to you and how invested you are in this.

16:50 You love this?

16:51 Yes, I love it.

16:52 trying to get it right or do you have to Is there like a a threshold that you

16:54 have to meet that maybe rest of us

16:56 fans and on internet maybe don't have to understand?

16:59 So, Pat, we have 17 officiating crews, so we have 17 replay officials.

17:03 And when they're looking at everything,

17:04 we set a very high standard and we want consistency across that standard.

17:08 So then, if and when it comes back to this room, Art McNally Game Day Central,

17:12 and we need to either confirm or overturn

17:15 a ruling on the field from a replay perspective,

17:17 We want to make sure that there's clear

17:19 and obvious video evidence evidence to overturn that call.

17:22 The key for us is what's the ruling on the field

17:24 and do we have clear and obvious video evidence to overturn that call?

17:28 Okay, so um how many games uh how

17:31 many calls a game are you guys associated with?

17:33 Have you done the averages there?

17:34 Uh yeah, uh we average almost an assist per game.

17:37 It's dependent on game window and the number of cameras.

17:39 You can look back at these screens.

17:40 You can see there's uh different number of tiles

17:43 based on each station and that's in the 1:00

17:46 window we may have 16 cameras for a primetime

17:48 game or this is one of our wild card games.

17:50 We may have up to 36 cameras from broadcast.

17:53 So, more angles give us more opportunities to actually see.

17:57 And this is your desk here?

17:59 Uh yeah, yeah, actually that desk is in here.

18:01 I'm typically walking around.

18:02 The key in this room is comfortable shoes.

18:04 Okay, so you're wearing the On Clouds.

18:06 You're wearing the OCs,

18:07 maybe a little uh What is those ones that uh Bailey broke his ankle in?

18:11 Uh Hoka?

18:12 No.

18:13 The extreme Hokas.

18:15 footballs.

18:15 Uh the Cam Cameron something?

18:17 The Cam Hanes ones?

18:18 Hanes.

18:18 Yeah.

18:19 You wearing the extreme Hokas?

18:20 You wearing those?

18:21 Oh, Mr.

18:21 Butter.

18:22 I think for this particular set uh setting it would be fantastic.

18:25 Um I know boys have some questions probably

18:27 for you back in the Thunderdome about the entire process.

18:29 AJ, go ahead, pal.

18:30 I do.

18:30 I'm I'm just wondering like the Do you have a bunch of like redundancy?

18:33 Like how do you as far as the technology goes in the internet there?

18:36 What if something goes down?

18:37 I I would assume there's generators for everything, but we know technology,

18:41 things happen and that cannot happen in a critical

18:42 moment in a game for you guys.

18:44 Yeah, AJ, great question.

18:45 We actually do have that redundancy and when you think about it,

18:48 when we have games in Dublin, we're going to have a game in Australia this year,

18:51 that redundancy, it's straight from the stadium to this room.

18:56 We want to make sure that that never happens.

18:58 Okay, D.

18:59 Butter has a question for you.

19:00 Yeah, I want to know what call and you did that you

19:03 remember that you got the most but not you [laughter] personally,

19:06 but the league got the most blowback for it

19:08 since you've been down there in New York.

19:11 I think Pat set him up on this question.

19:13 No.

19:14 I like it.

19:14 This is good.

19:15 I like the question though, D But.

19:16 It's a good question.

19:17 Two of the question Two Two calls that still

19:19 keep me up at night were and Pat you and I talked about one of them was the Josh

19:23 Allen failed fourth down attempt in the AFC Championship.

19:27 And then last year actually it was Buffalo at Denver.

19:30 I just wish we would have stopped the game on the interception in overtime.

19:34 We knew it was an interception.

19:35 We had all the angles.

19:36 We looked at it for like 45 seconds.

19:38 We knew that it was an interception.

19:40 We just wanted to make sure everybody knew we were looking at it.

19:43 Okay, so there are a couple that keep you up at night.

19:45 Yes.

19:45 How about the face mask Thursday night, Minister?

19:47 What are you not allowed to call from here?

19:49 Because I think whenever the replacement refs were about to come

19:51 in, you guys are going to get more power, I think.

19:53 Temporary rule 19, yes, sir.

19:55 Oh, you know it, yeah.

19:56 Yes, sir.

19:56 He was probably You're talking about temporary rule 19, yeah.

19:59 We're calling the games out here.

20:00 Yeah, yeah, I certainly know about old clause

20:02 19 that they were going to drop in there.

20:03 But on that note, there are a lot of restrictions on what you're allowed to do,

20:06 what you're not allowed to do.

20:07 At this stage in 2026, rolling forward with the new agreement with the refs,

20:11 what are you guys allowed to do, what are you not allowed to do?

20:13 Just so whenever I'm watching something, I can't say,

20:16 "I'm about sick of Butter letting happen out here live

20:19 from Art McNally Game Day Central." What are you allowed to do,

20:22 what are you not allowed to do?

20:23 We typically for flags on the field,

20:25 there's certain things we from a replay assist perspective,

20:28 you talk about face mask, we're we can actually as long as we see

20:31 the close part of the hand on the face mask,

20:33 we'd leave it down if it's the outside part of the hand,

20:36 we would pick those flags up.

20:38 We've done it a few times.

20:39 Same with IDP, if they're not if the linemen aren't

20:41 more than a yard down field from a replay perspective, we can pick the flag up.

20:46 We're not touching pass interference.

20:48 We don't look at holding.

20:49 That's horse poop.

20:50 D But.

20:51 That's cuz you DBs got all mad about that.

20:54 They started And then the ref Who was in here before you?

20:57 Al Riveron?

20:57 Was it Mr.

20:58 Riveron?

20:59 Well, it was Yeah, Al Riveron, then Russell York.

21:03 [laughter] All right.

21:03 They did Thank you for for service to the game, boys.

21:06 Thank you for your service to the game, boys.

21:07 I understand what you're doing.

21:08 But, it felt like the pass interference one,

21:10 they were trying to make it a miserable experience

21:12 so that we could get rid of the rules.

21:13 Did did did Did you You were a part of it,

21:15 I guess, cuz you were there for 17 years.

21:17 Did Did it feel like that?

21:18 Like, hey, we don't want this to be

21:19 a reviewable thing because it is so subjective?

21:21 It felt like there was a little bit of maybe personal pushback

21:24 from the officials on that potentially being

21:26 there because it's such a close call.

21:28 Is that real or no?

21:28 So, as a replay official,

21:30 I went through that season where we did have pass interference,

21:32 and it needed the rise to the standard that it was

21:35 clear and obvious that it didn't happen one way or another.

21:38 My final game that year was a wild card game in New Orleans, of all places.

21:42 A tight play at the back of the end zone.

21:44 It was just big man, little man.

21:45 There was no pass interference there.

21:47 Oh.

21:48 Hell yeah.

21:48 So, you got So, hold on.

21:49 So, me saying that you guys were getting them wrong on purpose,

21:52 you're saying we got them right.

21:54 That's what you're saying.

21:54 I like that.

21:55 I like what you just said.

21:56 I like that you have confidence in the lads.

21:58 I like that the decisions that you make, you have faith in.

22:00 And whenever we get upset about it,

22:01 that's just something you have to sit in, I guess.

22:03 Like, hey, that's just a job that you kind of have to take.

22:05 Correct.

22:05 And Pat, you have to remember,

22:06 we have the best officials in the world on the field.

22:09 We have the best replay officials in the world in the booth.

22:11 We want to train up our staff so that their judgment, and you have to remember,

22:14 the officials on the field, they see it one time real speed.

22:17 We can slow everything down here.

22:19 Broadcast can slow it down.

22:20 We can look at different angles.

22:22 We want to make sure officials are in their proper

22:23 position to make the that proper judgment call.

22:26 Tone Diggs, who has an AP vote, has a question for you, Mr.

22:29 Butter.

22:29 Yeah, I do, Mr.

22:30 Butter.

22:30 I I Do you guys have audio game audio when you're looking at any of this?

22:34 Or or Have you listened back like to Steratore and been like,

22:37 "Gene, you really screwed us on this one.

22:38 The way that you were explaining this really screwed us." I like I

22:41 assume that doesn't come into play at all while you're making the call,

22:43 but have you ever had any conversations with those refs

22:46 that are on the TV booth or TV copy to talk to them about maybe what they

22:50 didn't see or saw wrong or anything like that?

22:52 So, our three screens at the front of the room, we have every game that's live.

22:56 We have We have it up on up on those screens.

22:59 Um we actually switch the audio between when

23:02 we have a referee announcement or a team challenge.

23:05 We're actually communicating with our broadcast partners real

23:08 time to let them know what we're doing,

23:10 so they're the most informed when they come on the air.

23:13 Yeah, because whenever they counter whatever you do, not good for the game.

23:16 Correct.

23:17 So, we I always talk about it's like dealing with my wife.

23:20 I explain to her why I did something.

23:21 She may not agree with it, but at least she knows why I did it.

23:23 Yeah, can you let these people know why we made this decision?

23:25 And obviously, you talk about doing something If you get a hundred right Oh,

23:31 if there's a hundred plays if I we nail 99

23:34 and that last play and there's a little shade of gray,

23:37 there people are going to be so upset.

23:39 Yeah, certainly.

23:40 It's a thankless job.

23:42 Butter.

23:43 [laughter] Life of a DB.

23:44 Yeah, life of a DB, punter, kicker.

23:47 I mean, we can start going down the line.

23:48 You're professional, you've earned your way here.

23:50 We can't wait to follow along with the season with you.

23:52 And I wish you would have got the power from clause 19.

23:55 But I'm happy we don't have replacement refs.

23:58 So, maybe someday we'll get to that.

23:59 Thank you for your service to the league.

24:00 Thank you for your service to the ball.

24:01 And thank you for the hospitality here

24:03 in this beautiful Art McNally Gameday Central, sir.

24:06 Pat, you're welcome anytime.

24:07 Where are you from, Ohio?

24:08 Canton, Ohio.

24:09 Wow.

24:11 That's that's a that's a beautiful thing.

24:13 Pleasure.

24:13 Appreciate you, Mr.

24:14 Butter.

24:14 Ladies and gentlemen, that's Canton, Ohio's finest, Mr.

24:17 Butter.

24:20 [cheering] Thank you.

24:20 You can put that right there.

24:21 Confirmed NFL hates the Bills.

24:23 Well, yeah.

24:24 Oh, yeah.

24:25 Hey, keeping them up at night.

24:26 Hey, so just quick follow up here.

24:29 Quick follow up.

24:30 D-Butt D-Butt just said that because the two calls

24:33 that keep you up at night are both against the Bills,

24:36 that it is confirmed that this room does hate the Buffalo Bills.

24:38 Would you like to make any statement?

24:41 Oh, [laughter] yeah.

24:42 Chiefs and yeah, okay.

24:43 Yeah, don't do that.

24:44 DON'T DO THAT.

24:45 DO NOT do that.

24:47 That you cannot do what you JUST DID.

24:49 NOT FUNNY, BUTTER.

24:51 BUTTER JUST SAID THAT'S NOT ON HERE.

24:52 YEAH, OKAY.

24:54 That is I do you Hey, super competitive.

24:57 Yeah.

24:57 You know what I off air when I brought up the VAR thing?

25:00 He was like That's tough.

25:02 And it's like, [snorts] oh, you know about this.

25:04 He's like, oh, yeah, he definitely does.

25:05 They're trying to be the best replay system, you know, in the entire world.

25:09 Set the standard.

25:10 They've certainly invested in it here and we're very grateful and thankful.

25:14 Okay, let's pivot away from the NFL AJ.

25:16 Let's go to the NBA,

25:16 which has been absolutely spectacular throughout this playoff series.

25:20 Obviously, there's been some sweeps.

25:21 There's been teams getting some rest,

25:23 but there's also been electricity from beginning to end.

25:25 Ladies and gentlemen, the man who's been joining us through it all,

25:28 friend of the program, icon,

25:29 12-time All-Star 11-time All-NBA seven-time All-Defense.

25:39 Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Paul.

25:42 [applause] Seven, yeah.

25:45 That's your first time.

25:45 I think you're muted.

25:46 I don't know if it's on your side or on my side if I can hear you.

25:49 Yeah, I can't.

25:50 Oh, there he is.

25:50 There he is.

25:51 Seven-time.

25:52 Seven-time.

25:53 But then second team to So, you're nine-time All-Defense, 12-time All-Star,

25:58 11-time All-NBA and a man who's been spectacular

26:01 for us on this program through the playoffs.

26:03 We appreciate the hell out of you.

26:04 Let's dive right into this.

26:05 CP's top three of what's going on in the playoffs right now.

26:09 Chris, I love what the Spider-Man is

26:11 doing for Cleveland over there against the Stones.

26:15 Donovan wouldn't be denied.

26:17 Tell me about him cooking last night and also I think he said some things

26:20 that are going to be memeable about somebody being able to guard him or not.

26:24 Love everything about it, Chris.

26:26 Tell me a little bit about Donovan and your thoughts on the Cavs.

26:29 I mean, when you watch the game last night in the first half,

26:32 Donovan had a tough time getting going early, right?

26:35 Look like Detroit had it going.

26:37 Don put 39 up in the second half.

26:39 That's tough.

26:40 But if you know Don, he just he wasn't going to let his team lose.

26:43 You can see him trying to get everybody involved early.

26:46 But 39 in the second half, I think it says the most what in a half, right?

26:51 In a half.

26:52 Yeah.

26:52 Tied, yep.

26:53 Yeah.

26:54 All right.

26:55 Yeah, that's tough.

26:56 That's tough.

26:58 Yeah, I mean just a buzz saw anytime you're the Stones and Foxy

27:01 I haven't even got a chance to chat with you about this.

27:03 I mean just getting absolutely steamrolled there

27:06 for a while with nothing to celebrate

27:08 zero on the board as the other team just continues to fill up the bucket.

27:12 Are the Stones fans going to be

27:14 able to survive this Donovan Mitchell onslaught Foxy?

27:17 What's going on in Detroit?

27:18 be okay.

27:19 As Chris Paul told us I think the very first time he was

27:22 on here you got to rely on your superstars to win you some games.

27:25 So the first game the Cavs won James Harden cooked

27:27 in that game and then now it's two to two.

27:30 We had Donovan Donovan Mitchell cooking in this one.

27:32 So everything will be a-okay.

27:33 We're going back to Detroit.

27:35 It's Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren time out there.

27:38 I love that Cade Go ahead Chris.

27:41 I was going to say you know what I think hurt Detroit in that game.

27:43 I think they only had two of their starters score in double figures.

27:47 Right?

27:47 So that's that's hard in those games especially playoff games.

27:50 You're going to need everybody to to to be

27:53 better and I think Duren is definitely Jalen

27:55 Duren is definitely going to have to be

27:56 better in order for them to have a chance.

27:59 AJ you believe in the Cavaliers AJ?

28:01 Is that what you believe in?

28:01 in the Cavs especially now.

28:02 I think if like Chris you could tell me are are

28:05 Pistons fans and Pistons players are they I don't know now

28:08 the series is tied up like does that change their mentality now

28:11 thinking like all right now we not pressed but I don't know.

28:14 Maybe some some players does it change anything for them?

28:16 I don't think it changes but what I said once upon a time on there

28:20 was that when you win a playoff game you feel like you never going to lose.

28:23 When you lose one you feel like you never going to win.

28:25 So Cleveland obviously has to feel good

28:27 going into Detroit but you're going back home.

28:29 You know Detroit you're going back home to where you get to sleep in your bed.

28:33 You get to be around your fans.

28:34 You get to do your regular pregame routine.

28:36 So Detroit probably ain't tripping too much.

28:39 Yeah and you get to hear the let's go Stones.

28:41 Let's go Stones.

28:44 Let's go Stones.

28:46 That's what you get to hear.

28:47 Hey, James Harden said he doesn't do internet which I respect and appreciate.

28:52 I wish more people would be able to do that myself included.

28:55 After he goes crazy two games ago,

28:57 he's asked afterwards like do you think that quieted the chatter?

28:59 He goes, "What chatter?

29:00 Didn't hear it." Kendrick Perkins said that his heart was filled coolly,

29:04 not with blood because of how he had been performing.

29:07 Your thoughts on James Harden for this Cavaliers team

29:10 and what his role kind of means to them going forward?

29:14 Oh man.

29:15 Um You know what our league obviously everyone

29:18 says different things about the internet and following

29:21 this and that and you you never know but I

29:24 think guys you're very conscious of what's being said.

29:27 I I would say I always say a pair of lips will say anything, right?

29:31 But you you need to say that.

29:33 You need You need to make sure everybody is as locked in as possible.

29:38 Each guy on every team has whatever.

29:40 You may try to stay off social media or whatnot but you know

29:43 to a certain extent cuz you you can you can feel the energy with your teammates.

29:48 You know, they're going to let you know if

29:49 they need more from you or whatnot but you know,

29:52 they they got a really good team.

29:53 James has has been here before.

29:57 Donovan has been here before and they got to figure it out.

30:01 I love Cavaliers this post season home six and oh 118 points per game.

30:06 Woo.

30:07 That's a lot of points.

30:09 What do you guys What's the goal?

30:10 What's the goal for points nowadays?

30:11 Like do you guys have that?

30:12 For NFL we have let's not give up 100 yards rushing, let's score like 24 points.

30:19 For special teams there's like let's have at least 35-yard drive start.

30:22 Like we have these goals going into the game

30:24 that if we accomplish them we'll win.

30:25 Some teams if you score 17 points against this team you're going to win.

30:28 For you guys going into each individual game,

30:30 is there a number for each different game or is there

30:32 a standard that you guys kind of look at in the NBA?

30:35 That's That's a real good question, Pat.

30:36 It's great I think about how long I got a chance to play.

30:41 When I first came into the NBA, I used to think like 25 points a quarter,

30:44 you know, that's going to give you 100.

30:46 All right?

30:47 But, what started happening is now people are scoring 130,

30:50 people are scoring 140.

30:51 So, it's more percentages and it depends on how a team plays.

30:55 There's so much analytics that go into a game now.

30:58 It gets crazy being in the locker room, right?

31:01 Like, some of the sorriest teams in the league

31:03 will have the best stats at something.

31:06 You ought to hear some of the pregame talks in the locker room.

31:08 You'll be playing against a team that's you win a game 70

31:12 and they ain't got but 12 wins and your coach will be like,

31:15 "They're number one in the league in fast break

31:17 points in the third quarter with 3 minutes left." Right?

31:22 It's different stats.

31:23 So, at the end of the day, my my stat my biggest stat is winning the game.

31:28 Okay.

31:28 One more point than the other team.

31:29 Yeah, I like that.

31:30 The goal for points is one more than the other team.

31:33 That is kind of how we'll go.

31:34 Okay, let's go to your next uh headline out of CP's top three, SGA being MVP.

31:41 You see that's three letters, AJ, both of them.

31:43 SGA and MVP.

31:45 And we watched him do this last year and it feels like he's back.

31:48 And now he just retired a legend.

31:50 Chris, I would like you to speak on all these things, okay?

31:53 Obviously, your LeBron take is certainly going

31:55 to be a huge one on this particular day.

31:57 But, SGA doing what he's doing and how they play,

32:00 they seem unbeatable, actually.

32:02 This is a wagon of all types of power

32:05 out of Oklahoma City and you love SGA, it appears.

32:09 Well, I mean, I got a chance to be a teammate of his and Luguentz

32:13 Dort and Doc Rivers was actually my coach while I was there.

32:16 Uh they we say this all the time.

32:18 You're going to hear everybody say it on on their shows.

32:21 They just they just know how to play and they play together.

32:24 Jared McCain, I've known him since he was a high school.

32:27 This is where people get messed up is the NBA is about situations.

32:31 Jared was in Philly just not getting an opportunity to play,

32:34 but he's been the man since he was a young kid.

32:36 So, when he comes in these games

32:37 and people seeing making threes and playing the way

32:40 he he's always trained like that and shades

32:43 you see here just he built for these moments, but they they really have a team.

32:48 They celebrate each other's wins and it's going to be really tough to beat them.

32:52 And LeBron James is never playing basketball again?

32:54 Wow.

32:56 That came out of nowhere it feels like.

32:59 The conversation yesterday after our show and I

33:03 should have been paying attention more was like, "Hey,

33:05 we didn't even bring up the fact that this could

33:07 be LeBron's last game tonight." I'm like, "Last game tonight?

33:10 10:30 on Prime?

33:11 We got to get swept?

33:12 I don't I hope not.

33:14 This doesn't feel like how this is supposed to go.

33:16 Is there ever a right time though?

33:18 You know, like is there ever a proper exit?

33:20 He has said that he doesn't want to do the entire,

33:23 you know, last trip around tour.

33:24 He has said that publicly.

33:26 I think he has earned that if that is what he wanted to do.

33:29 What are your thoughts on trying to step

33:30 away from the game when it's been your entire

33:31 life and you've given so much and you're

33:34 already playing the way you're playing as a 40-year-old,

33:36 how much more can he do this?

33:39 Yeah, it's tough.

33:40 Um I I think what he'll do is probably what he said.

33:45 I think he'll say go talk to his family, evaluate it.

33:48 I know when you get up to that that age and 41 or whatever,

33:52 he didn't show that he got the ability to still play at a high level,

33:55 get himself ready for the games, but it's the the mental aspect of it, right?

34:00 Even though you're grateful for the opportunity

34:02 to play and do all these different things,

34:04 there's a point where the the off-seasons just get a little bit longer

34:08 and the preparation for each game and the time away from your family is tough.

34:12 It's tough, and so I guess we'll all be uh seeing what he decides.

34:16 I It when you watch him play and you see what he's able to do

34:21 at this age does it not become something in his mind though where it's like,

34:25 "Hey, maybe I do do this till I'm 50.

34:27 Never would have guessed that I could still do this at this age.

34:29 Why not do it till I'm 50 and just

34:32 prove I'm the greatest professional athlete of all time?

34:34 Like that that is that's still possible to pierce.

34:37 He's still high end now.

34:38 High end I mean he's high end you

34:41 know he's he's everywhere somehow still at that age.

34:45 I pulled my hamstring taking a dump

34:48 of a spicy rigatoni from Carbone at 4:30 this morning.

34:51 You hear me?

34:52 I'm 39.

34:53 Chris, [snorts] I'm 39 years old.

34:56 I'm not proud of this.

34:57 Damn it.

34:59 Huh?

35:00 I'm 41.

35:02 Could you handle the spicy rigatoni from Carbone as easy as Pat do you think

35:06 or do you think you're pulling your hamstring

35:07 getting up on the toilet at 4:30 a.m.?

35:09 What do you think Chris?

35:10 Honestly, maybe you're in a little better shape than me.

35:11 I messed up I messed up my hamstring enough times.

35:14 I'm cool.

35:16 [clears throat] That's what I'm saying he's 41 still doing it.

35:17 This guy you're not supposed to the body

35:19 human body's not supposed to be doing this.

35:20 And if that was it last night, bravo buddy.

35:23 Congratulations.

35:27 What a run.

35:28 From the hummer in high school Okay.

35:31 All the way through now,

35:33 we've seen this dude do everything he's ever done basically.

35:36 And obviously there's been a couple wars that have happened

35:39 because of things that he said and beliefs that he's had.

35:41 But I think anybody in the public eye is going to have that.

35:43 I think that's going to happen especially

35:44 if you're growing up in front of everybody.

35:46 And uh what a run.

35:48 If that was it, I I don't like it first of all.

35:51 I don't like that that was it.

35:53 I don't like it I don't first of all.

35:54 Just would like that on the record.

35:56 But if it was, good for you dude.

35:58 What's that D-Butt?

35:59 What are you saying?

35:59 It's got to end you know somehow some way you know.

36:01 There's no great end.

36:02 Yeah it's it's at this point

36:04 BY THE OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER AT 1:00 A.M.

36:06 ON PRIME IS REMEMBER THE CAREER THOUGH.

36:10 I'M GOING to remember that.

36:11 Someone will remember.

36:12 I I'll tell you right now that's the last thing that's on his mind, right?

36:16 Is that.

36:17 And I'm telling you like some of y'all like

36:19 Pat I know you got a a little girl, right?

36:22 Yeah.

36:23 So in in having family and kids and for him giving

36:26 23 years of his life to this game training off seasons missing

36:32 you know so much and so many other people have done it

36:35 in other fields don't don't get me twisted but there's a time

36:38 where you just sit back and you evaluate you know Bronny's

36:41 obviously in the league playing Bryce's at Arizona you know getting ready

36:46 for his sophomore year you got Zuri playing volleyball and doing

36:49 all these things and like there is there is there's life too.

36:55 And he also has started to chase that little white ball around.

36:57 True.

36:58 He probably golfs right now.

37:00 Yeah he started chasing that thing around.

37:01 Imagine if he figures out tempo.

37:03 He gets challenged.

37:04 he challenged Blockie at the PGA Championship maybe in two years.

37:07 Woah easy.

37:08 You're better off.

37:08 How do you feel about Michael Block in a woah D butt?

37:13 D butt Plus 500,000 is Let's throw some money throw 10 bucks on it.

37:19 Yeah I'll take it.

37:20 Blockie is currently plus 500,000 to win the PGA Championship this weekend.

37:24 Obviously that is some of the largest odds that you'll ever

37:26 see on anything and in my history with Blockie that guy brings

37:30 electricity maybe he does this for all of us but LeBron picking

37:34 up the sport of golf it's like guys this guy is retired.

37:37 He's becoming a YouTube golfer this guy's got to be done.

37:40 But also that's a huge decision we're watching it with Aaron right now.

37:43 It's a huge decision to make to give up your life

37:46 but obviously life keeps life and now let's get to your third headline.

37:49 Go ahead AJ.

37:50 Here we go CP Wembys Spurs got to have it tonight.

37:53 What do you say?

37:55 Man that's going to be a big it's a big

37:57 game for that city for the team for the organization.

38:00 I know Vic going out the way that he did last game with that that flagrant foul.

38:07 One thing about Vic is he loves the hoop he loves to play

38:10 and so when that happened I'm sure he owned his mistake but seeing what

38:16 Ant did in that second half last game in that fourth quarter was

38:20 16 points six for six it's going to be a big time game tonight.

38:25 Timberwolves offense in series versus Spurs when be on the court 15.2 average.

38:31 Field goal attempts, 43% of field goal attempts in the paint.

38:34 When be on the bench 11.4 average field goal attempts, 62% in the paint.

38:39 Shout out to genius IQ says Hembo.

38:41 That means don't get near the paint

38:43 when there's an alien flailing around down there.

38:45 Katie, and how do you feel about him not getting suspended?

38:48 What are your thoughts?

38:49 Old school basketball's back or you like Darius and Gumpy who think,

38:52 "Oh, cuz he's European he gets away with it." Huh?

38:55 If he was an American this would certainly be a suspension of sorts.

38:58 What are your thoughts on this ruling?

39:01 Yeah, I don't think he should have got suspended or not.

39:04 And of course people are going to say I'm biased about it,

39:06 but it's probably first offense or not.

39:09 It's been a rough series and all that.

39:10 He got ejected, they lost the game.

39:12 That That was the penalty right there.

39:15 I agree.

39:16 I agree.

39:16 Thank you for saying that Chris.

39:19 You're an adult.

39:21 Bring back tough basketball.

39:28 Okay, HE DIDN'T ROB A BANK.

39:33 HE GOT SHOVED IN THE BACK THE OTHER NIGHT TOO and he didn't get a fine.

39:37 HE WAS SOFT.

39:40 AND 7'6" GETTING PUSHED AROUND LIKE A TUMBLEWEED.

39:44 YEAH, RIGHT HE'S GOING TO RESPOND.

39:46 ONE OF THE BEST 10 BEST players in the league you should have a like a chip

39:49 or a trading card that says I get to elbow a GUY IN THE LARYNX IF I want to.

39:54 EXACTLY.

39:55 THE LARYNX IS A PAL.

39:58 THE TOUGHEST THING IS TOUGH is at his height

40:01 if he if he elbow anybody it's over for you.

40:05 Yeah, especially with the I don't know how they They said

40:08 it's the uh What's the thing that they said built the pyramids?

40:12 The A Aliens.

40:15 Maybe.

40:16 Potentially.

40:17 Black people.

40:18 Rick Ross Rick Ross told me that in a song.

40:20 It was awesome.

40:21 Rick Ross Rick Ross just clearly stated that in a song too about,

40:25 you know, who built pyramids.

40:26 [laughter] It was incredible.

40:27 I think Lane Kiffin said that, too.

40:29 Who knows the truth?

40:30 Well, I don't know if that's what Lane Kiffin said,

40:31 but there certainly some some others did.

40:33 But what's that it it's a it's a thing

40:36 it's an A thing they they used to old school

40:40 A-frame.

40:40 A-frame maybe.

40:41 Catapult.

40:42 Oh, you're talking about like a doll like a like one

40:44 of those dollies like they have in back in the day.

40:47 What is he talking about?

40:48 Yeah, what are you talking about?

40:49 A wheelie.

40:49 I'M JUST SAYING WITH HOW LONG HIS bicep thing What is this bicep here?

40:53 are strong levers.

40:54 My coach used to say that.

40:55 Long levers are strong levers, yeah.

40:56 Like that elbow potentially as he might I think

40:59 like physics says that that thing HAS MORE OH!

41:03 BECAUSE OF HOW LONG HIS BONES ARE.

41:06 HE'S GOT BIG LONG BONES OUT THERE.

41:08 You know what I mean?

41:09 That's what I'm saying.

41:09 But when I was watching the game when I

41:11 was watching the game and I saw it happen,

41:13 I they didn't even have to review it long.

41:15 You knew he was getting ejected.

41:16 Yeah, and he said he didn't know what that means.

41:18 Chris Paul It was rude that they said this.

41:21 What does that mean?

41:21 Watch him read Harrison Barnes' head from sitting down.

41:24 I'm down here.

41:25 I'm down here.

41:27 Um Chris, I didn't like that they were saying it.

41:29 I didn't like it one bit that they were saying it, but they were saying it.

41:32 I feel obligated to tell you cuz I don't know how much you're on the internet.

41:34 They said if Wemby would have done that with you Wind.

41:39 have missed it.

41:41 [laughter]

41:40 Yeah.

41:41 And it would have been not Yeah, [clears throat] it would have been nothing.

41:43 I think that's a benefit for you.

41:44 Now, on the flip side of that how many elbows have

41:47 you gotten because of your size and how you play defense?

41:50 You had the I I assume there was a lot of uh you were eating elbows?

41:55 I assume that was a real thing.

41:56 And how do you avoid that while you're playing good defense in the NBA?

42:00 I I You can't avoid it.

42:02 You can't avoid it.

42:03 And that's probably one of the things that probably made me the maddest, right?

42:07 Cuz you you think about getting elbowed or whatnot.

42:11 Like when you get elbowed in the nose or you get elbowed in the in the mouth.

42:15 Like when you get elbowed in the mouth,

42:16 that was probably my biggest pet peeve in my career cuz then it was hard

42:20 to eat like french fries and stuff like that for like a week or what not.

42:23 Of course, french fries.

42:24 Thank you.

42:25 Yeah, yeah, that's that's that's my weakness.

42:27 French fries your weakness?

42:28 What do we like burgers?

42:29 We like uh Dip in ketchup?

42:31 Yeah, what is it we using ketchup and mustard?

42:33 fancy sauce?

42:34 Tomato.

42:35 I'm definitely a french fry connoisseur.

42:37 Yes.

42:37 What's the best french fries?

42:38 Who make the best fries?

42:39 Yeah.

42:40 Ooh, ooh, wait.

42:41 What what fast food has the best fries?

42:43 Fresh hot.

42:43 McDonald's definitely.

42:45 Crispy.

42:46 McDonald's.

42:46 McDonald's is fire.

42:47 Shake Shack.

42:49 Agreed.

42:50 You ever been to the Potato Patch at Kennywood?

42:52 It's it's called the Patch now.

42:54 Have you ever been to the Potato Patch in Kennywood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?

42:57 It's a uh number four theme park

42:59 in the country voted on by really official people.

43:01 Have you ever had the Potato Patch fries there?

43:03 They're very good.

43:04 Haven't been there yet, but I'd love to go try.

43:06 They're actually having a french fry convention here in LA coming up soon.

43:12 Are you going and are you hosting?

43:15 I should be hosting.

43:16 Okay, let's talk about it.

43:18 Twisty doohickey's, the steak fries,

43:21 the standard fries, what type of potato tots?

43:24 Crinkle cut.

43:24 Seasoned.

43:25 Steak.

43:26 Crinkle cut seasoned is fire.

43:28 Uh Bojangles, any y'all know about Bojangles?

43:30 Y'all know about Bojangles?

43:31 We all know about Bojangles.

43:32 We know about Bojangles.

43:33 We've been down in North Carolina.

43:35 We We've been to TST.

43:36 We know Bojangles.

43:38 We know Bojangles.

43:40 Dude.

43:40 I got some I got some sweet TEA FROM BOJANGLES

43:43 DOWN THERE IN NORTH Carolina about 130° out there.

43:47 [laughter]

43:47 I never had their fries though.

43:48 I think they they got a little uh like Miami sub seasoning.

43:51 [clears throat] Yeah.

43:55 [laughter] Well, I got you I got you on that one.

43:57 Here's CP's top three recap.

43:58 We appreciate you.

43:59 You're the man.

43:59 Ladies and gentlemen, run the program.

44:02 Hey, listen here fellas.

44:03 I appreciate y'all and I just want I'm going uh

44:06 send out prayers and stuff to my family, Ricardo Lewis, man.

44:09 Sending you so much love and prayers, man.

44:12 Love you.

44:13 Yeah, we are, too.

44:14 We appreciate the hell out of you doing that.

44:15 Shout out to Ricardo,

44:17 and nothing but positive vibes to your family and to Ricardo at this time.

44:22 And thank you for joining us, Chris.

44:23 You're the man.

44:24 Appreciate y'all fellas, man.

44:26 Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Paul.

44:30 So, that's his, uh, I believe his niece's husband.

44:33 I do believe.

44:33 Yep.

44:34 And Ricardo.

44:35 So, that's obviously positive vibes as much as we possibly can.

44:39 Chris Paul on the all-defense team, uh, nine times.

44:43 He's eaten so many all-mines.

44:44 So many all-mines.

44:45 He's a menace.

44:46 Imagine how annoying it'd be if he's guarding you.

44:48 Yeah.

44:48 All game.

44:49 Remember his was what?

44:50 Like, "Ha ha ha." [laughter]

44:52 Right.

44:52 That was his, yeah.

44:53 His, uh Just like that.

44:55 Just like [laughter] that.

44:56 Yeah.

44:56 Yeah.

44:56 Like, he was like pissed all the time, right?

44:58 Like, not like he's the Steve Kerr thing.

45:00 We That's exactly what I think of.

45:02 Him walking by Steve Kerr laughing and then

45:04 just getting so mad and continuing on.

45:07 The fake part.

45:07 who does You know who doesn't make me mad?

45:09 Who?

45:10 Who?

45:11 Somebody that has the ability to call car bones to get us in a Z's East club.

45:14 Somebody that's able to walk us down the street

45:16 and show us where Gary Vee actually is.

45:18 Oh, Alexis Ohanian, the guy that founded Reddit.

45:21 Shrag's in Aziz right here.

45:22 Okay?

45:23 Ladies and gentlemen, the king of New York.

45:26 Emmy Award winner.

45:28 A man who's going to be a part of the primetime

45:29 coverage of the NFL schedule release on Thursday night.

45:32 Live from the Art McNally Game Day Central, ladies and gentlemen.

45:36 BRUCE SHRAG.

45:37 [applause and cheering]

45:41 WOO!

45:40 BRUCE COULDN'T GET YOU IN A CAR BONE?

45:42 YES.

45:42 Shrag says the car bone.

45:44 I am shocked.

45:45 I'm going to say this.

45:46 I'm going to say this with as much, um, cooth as possible.

45:51 Bruce has done nothing for us.

45:53 Shrag [laughter] has done everything.

45:54 No.

45:55 What?

45:56 That Brucey Brooks?

45:58 Bruce put us on a train that retired.

46:00 Okay?

46:00 The thing just stopped.

46:01 It It needed there.

46:03 break.

46:03 The train was doing all right.

46:04 But no, I do not have any pull at Carbone like Shraeger,

46:07 the King of New York, does.

46:08 Shraeger is the King of New York, which is how we need to start talking about

46:14 [laughter] I I would like to let the world know a little bit of an update, too.

46:16 I have uh tried to contact Action Bronson,

46:19 and I will be attempting to meet up with him

46:22 to potentially travel to a different altitude as well.

46:24 Be careful out there.

46:28 Need it, Bam Bronsolino?

46:29 Uh okay.

46:31 Baklava.

46:32 I have prayed at the temple of the sun.

46:34 I have been to uh Mecca.

46:36 I have been to the uh sets of Tibet in 18°.

46:40 He's having you dick drag in the Hudson, man.

46:44 [laughter] I'll tell you what, I'm a boogie boarder, crocodile only.

46:46 Okay, let's get right to uh Shraeger with NFL news as we

46:50 We got I first wanted to just say I wanted the recap from last night.

46:53 I wasn't with you.

46:54 So, I'll get it my side of it here.

46:56 You guys were in town, you're on the West Side.

46:58 Mhm.

46:58 ZZ's club, which is the private Carbone deal.

47:02 I got a hookup there.

47:03 My guy Danny Glazer is a member.

47:04 I said, "Can you hook up my guy McAfee and his friends?" And sure enough,

47:09 you guys were set up in Mario Carbone.

47:11 I texted him, one of the legends, the guy who owns the whole empire.

47:14 And he was like, "I love that Pat is frequenting our restaurant." told him this.

47:18 I told Mr.

47:18 Carbone, I said, "Grazie." Now,

47:20 there was a guy named uh Noah that was showing us around.

47:23 He had a nice suit, a good uh good head of hair, I would say.

47:26 Hannah was our our waitress.

47:28 She was from London.

47:29 She's a Tottenham fan.

47:32 [laughter] She has a Tottenham Hotspur tattoo on on the back of her leg.

47:34 She's die hard, so obviously we just immediately started talking about sports.

47:37 She was spectacular.

47:38 Aaron, the bartender, heavy pours, but delightful taste.

47:42 I mean, the whole thing was nice.

47:43 Saw some art from the metal on the walls.

47:44 I mean, it was sushi down here, best in the city, flown in from Japan.

47:49 We got some wagyu coming in from Sounds like an Action Bronson song.

47:52 I love this.

47:53 This is good.

47:53 That's all I thought last night is I've been to ZZ's at Carbone.

47:58 [laughter] Uh anyways, let's move along.

47:58 Thank you for the connection.

48:00 You're the best and I think tonight, by the way, he's putting us into a spot.

48:02 We're going to see.

48:03 Shraegs.

48:03 Wow.

48:05 My own Shraegs.

48:06 This is Bruce.

48:06 This is all him.

48:07 This Bruce has got a nice little New York Make-A-Wish going on through

48:11 [laughter]

48:11 Shraegs.

48:11 Bruce Shraegs got a piece of this together.

48:13 Bruce Shraegs.

48:14 We appreciate you, Shraegs.

48:15 It's my greatest joy.

48:16 Uh okay, Shraegs.

48:17 Big news right now.

48:18 Obviously, schedule release happening.

48:19 Do you McCarthy's right over here.

48:21 Thank you for this.

48:22 [clears throat] And I'm excited we're having

48:23 this conversation right in front of you.

48:25 Do you hate or love the like weekly leaks of the schedules?

48:30 Cuz I'm going to let you know, as a daily show host,

48:32 it's been hard to keep up with who the hell is where at what time.

48:35 Who's leaking these?

48:36 Do you think it's part of it?

48:37 And do you love, like I do, the fact that the schedule release is

48:40 now becoming another celebration of the football schedule?

48:42 I absolutely love that it is a tentpole item of the calendar year.

48:46 It goes from combine to free agency to draft to then schedule release.

48:50 And then, you take a nice 2 months or whatever it is,

48:53 then we get back for OTAs and we go.

48:54 But I'll tell you, Pat, these aren't leaks.

48:56 These are announcements what we're getting.

48:58 If If we got an actual He's not If we got an actual

49:01 thing that wasn't announced by one of the the actual broadcast partners,

49:05 I'd say that's good reporting.

49:06 That's a leak.

49:07 But we haven't gotten any that's actually confirmed that hasn't

49:09 been announced in a big upfront in some splashy display.

49:12 Okay, so this is on purpose to turn this into a couple day little hey,

49:16 here's the appetizer.

49:17 Here's the caprese with the the mushrooms.

49:20 We had a little pizza thing going.

49:21 But what actually it becomes the main dish for these upfronts.

49:25 Like, they're starting NBC and saying, "Guess what?

49:28 We've got Mike Tirico here and here is our Sunday night opener."

49:31 And that's their like tentpole for NBC for the entire fall calendar.

49:35 Fox did the same thing, I thought.

49:36 Fox did it as well.

49:37 They're here's our Thanksgiving Day game.

49:38 And then Amazon did theirs with here's Lions-Bills.

49:41 So, as much as we love to talk about Jack Reacher or whatever else they

49:45 have on, like that is going Is that not Is Jack Is that not a thing?

49:48 Jack Reacher?

49:48 No, it's great show.

49:49 It's great show.

49:50 It's great, but that's Amazon, right?

49:51 So, like that Is it Reacher is a dog.

49:54 I know what I'm saying.

49:54 We love Jack Reacher, but the real tentpole is the NFL,

49:58 and we've got this, and we're going to roll it out, and that's the main dish.

50:01 The caprese salad is whatever else we have.

50:04 Okay, I got it.

50:05 And then Thursday night primetime on ESPN 8:00 p.m.

50:08 Uh the NFL live crew will basically

50:10 be launching us into the next football calendar.

50:13 Chiefs-Broncos has been leaked as the Monday Night Football game,

50:16 but we don't know what city it's in, Shraegs.

50:19 Are we going to get brisket or marijuana?

50:22 [laughter]

50:21 I cannot wait.

50:23 Is it going to be Kansas City or Denver?

50:25 That would be a good start to the season.

50:27 Those guys usually go hand in hand, I think.

50:29 [laughter] Well, brisket certainly tastes a little bit more delightful.

50:31 Denver, obviously, fantastic fan base is Monday night's going to have to hit.

50:35 It's an interesting balance because the NFL

50:37 has to keep all their partners happy.

50:38 Obviously, they have a lot more partners now.

50:40 He's literally being subject to investigation with how many partners

50:43 they have because everybody wants to get into the NFL's game,

50:46 but balancing good games is like pivotal for the entire league's success.

50:49 They've been able to do that.

50:50 And I think I think that is a massive thing that the NFL has [laughter] over.

50:54 Good schedule matters.

50:55 But you better believe the competition of ratings and all that is great,

50:59 but the competition of who got the best games is real amongst these networks.

51:02 And it's, "Hey, what do you mean you're going to give Amazon that?

51:05 What What are we going to get?" Or, "Hey, you gave NBC Giants-Cowboys?

51:08 What?" So, this one's interesting to me.

51:10 Obviously, we're ESPN, but they haven't announced where it is yet,

51:14 which means by Thursday they will.

51:16 And as I'm walking over here, and we're in this awesome replay room,

51:19 there's a another conference room where all the schedule

51:21 makers are still meeting at this very moment,

51:24 and they're putting together the final touches.

51:26 So, it's not even done yet.

51:27 So, Monday Night Football every week.

51:30 Every week.

51:31 Where are they?

51:32 I need a night game for that suite.

51:34 I've been I've been investing $250,000 a year in that thing.

51:37 We've only been in there one time at night.

51:38 It was spectacular.

51:39 the team's fault.

51:43 Hey, Ty, why don't you Why don't you

51:44 shut You you got a quarterback over there, Ty?

51:46 How about that?

51:47 Who's your quarterback?

51:48 Who's your quarterback?

51:49 IT'S GOING TO BE HARD TO PUT YOU GUYS ON PRIMETIME.

51:50 NOBODY KNOWS WHO YOUR QUARTERBACK DO you think

51:52 the league is pissed at Aaron cuz they

51:54 can't put the Steelers on primetime yet cuz

51:55 they don't know who their quarterback's going to be.

51:57 Hey, fascinating thing actually because if Aaron was on the team,

51:59 they would certainly be searching for primetime games, I think.

52:01 Well, I think it's actually a real talking point.

52:04 It starts when they start making the schedule and I've talked to Mike

52:06 North who runs the whole thing several times over the years that yes,

52:09 every little piece matters.

52:11 So, is Rodgers playing?

52:12 We don't know.

52:12 We're going to have to go with our best guess,

52:14 but if he doesn't play, are they not equally intriguing to you?

52:18 Like is that not worthy Mike McCarthy is worthy of primetime.

52:22 I would think a Will Howard slash at least for an early Monday night game.

52:25 Let's see what we have.

52:26 So, but they have to weigh all that stuff.

52:28 [laughter] No, not at all.

52:29 I mean, I don't think you want seven games.

52:30 Here's the part of the How cool is that?

52:32 process where we're allowed to get behind-the-scenes footage.

52:35 We're very grateful for it.

52:36 Shout out to Barcode and ESPN crew for setting this all up,

52:40 getting these shots earlier today.

52:42 That's trying to match everything.

52:43 Here's the front office, obviously the NFL offices playing.

52:46 Still playing NFL network back there.

52:48 Kyle Brandt in a sweatshirt.

52:49 What's up, man?

52:50 Hey Kyle, he's part of the primetime crew.

52:51 He's on Thursday night with me.

52:53 Cannot wait to see that.

52:54 Corpo to the fullest here.

52:57 These are the guys.

52:57 This is the scheduling team right here.

52:59 You see that's Mike North with the long hair.

53:01 These are the folks working on it.

53:03 That's it right there.

53:03 They're in [laughter] that room.

53:05 Good luck in there, boys.

53:07 That is Peter's brother, yeah.

53:09 [laughter] I don't know.

53:09 I'm not 100% sure, but we are very thankful for them getting up.

53:13 This This is not a live look, but this was filmed about 45 minutes ago.

53:16 This is the brain trust.

53:17 A brain jovial.

53:18 Brain jovial.

53:19 I assume there's some AI in there somewhere as well if we had to guess.

53:23 I like it's a tight room.

53:24 You know, let's let's make sure that the vibes are

53:27 are being heard as we're live here in New York City.

53:29 Okay, let's bounce around a little bit from the boys

53:31 to get you all the NFL news that we possibly can.

53:34 Zito, could you please ask Bristol to push to 102 here so

53:37 we can really get all the Schrager information that we can possibly get.

53:40 Debud, there's some video coming out

53:42 of Las Vegas Raiders camp with Fernando Mendoza.

53:46 I don't know if that's what you were trying to ask Shraegs about,

53:48 but I know you got something to say.

53:49 Uh absolutely not.

53:50 He did look great though spinning it.

53:51 Love seeing those throws in slow motion.

53:53 They always play.

53:54 But, uh Shraegs, I want to ask you cuz I know as a player,

53:57 I used to look at, you know,

53:58 where we playing and when, you know, weather games or primetime games.

54:01 That was the first thing I looked at as a player.

54:03 What's the first thing you look at once the act full schedule drops?

54:07 I look at the miles that these teams have to travel.

54:10 I remember one year Tampa Bay had to go

54:12 six straight road games including a London trip and Bruce

54:15 Arians was losing his mind over the amount of miles

54:17 that they had in the middle of the season.

54:18 That stuff matters and it's almost that like seventh thing on the list,

54:21 but how much are you going to be traveling?

54:24 And then when you have these international games

54:26 or these West Coast to East Coast games, how long in between?

54:29 Is there a Thursday night game waiting on the other

54:31 end or is it a bye or a Monday night game?

54:33 So, to me it's those long road trips

54:36 and where you have it with all these international games,

54:38 to me it's like what's on the back end and what's before that because

54:41 I need my body to heal and I want to be at my best.

54:44 Niners traveling twice internationally.

54:45 Yes.

54:46 That seems interesting.

54:47 Obviously, Melbourne to start and then Kyle Shanahan

54:49 not a fan of the first one where they have to be starting the season over

54:54 in Australia and also nine days ahead of time.

54:57 Now, you said it's the best food you've ever had.

54:59 You felt like a million bucks.

55:00 It was unbelievable.

55:00 Coming back was a little bit of a adjustment,

55:02 but remember Kyle Shanahan wasn't happy and then Roger

55:05 Goodell did a press conference down there and said,

55:06 "Shanahan's going to have to shut up." Okay.

55:10 [laughter] And that is basically what he said.

55:12 Kyle understands how important this is to football and he's a coach.

55:14 So, coaches like routines.

55:16 Coaches obviously would like to take care of his players.

55:18 We think that they're going to do great here.

55:20 I can't wait to see how that works out cuz if Australia is available, okay?

55:24 You would have think anywhere on Earth is now available.

55:27 Absolutely.

55:27 If you can handle it and we don't have

55:28 a bunch of injuries out of this entire thing,

55:30 feels like if that's a possibility, anywhere could be a possibility.

55:33 Good for the game especially with 18 games around

55:35 the corner and we don't want to push too much

55:37 for information as the people that are probably going to have

55:39 that information are literally sitting just a few feet away.

55:41 Yeah.

55:42 I would add this.

55:43 ref association.

55:44 When's the player's CBA getting done?

55:45 Huh?

55:46 We negotiating that already or what's Let's get more Hey AJ,

55:50 we should do a vote right now.

55:51 Me, you, and Darius.

55:52 Should the NFL just unload maybe 200 to 300 million to former players?

56:01 Yes.

56:02 I.

56:03 I.

56:03 I.

56:04 Shraegs hates former players.

56:06 I'm a No, he didn't want to do it.

56:09 [laughter] But it's crazy how much information and how many decisions have to be

56:12 made in this building and like how much is on the line.

56:15 The reffing thing was crazy.

56:16 Got done.

56:17 That getting done is insane.

56:18 We're so happy about that.

56:19 I thought we were miles away when we were at the league

56:21 meetings less than two months ago and they got it done.

56:24 Yeah, thank god.

56:25 This league's doing a pretty good, aren't they?

56:27 Well, I mean It feels like they got it pretty figured out.

56:29 I think in the world of tech and media right now that we're starting off all

56:33 these upfronts this week and it's Netflix

56:35 and it's Amazon and it's all these new partners,

56:37 but also the broadcast partners and they're

56:39 showcasing the NFL as the central piece.

56:41 I think that's a sign of where football is in the greater landscape.

56:43 Yeah, I think so, too.

56:44 Shout out to Ball.

56:45 Shout out to the league.

56:46 Shout out to us being a tiny part of it and getting to do this for a living.

56:49 Tone Diggs has a question for you, Shraegs.

56:51 Yeah, Shraegs, I don't think any of us have any problem with it.

56:54 Actually, I know that none of us in on mics right now have any problem with it.

56:57 Games being won Wednesday through Monday now,

57:00 but I have seen some people on the internet

57:01 who are saying like Sunday's not sacred anymore.

57:04 Is that Do you think that's a small

57:05 very small section of NFL fans saying like hey, Sunday's not sacred anymore?

57:09 There's too many streaming services, too many games on too many days.

57:12 Like I assume that is is just a couple people

57:15 or you Do you have that sense at all, too?

57:18 No, I Look, I'm a purist in a lot of ways

57:20 where it's I like having eight games at 1:00 in the window

57:24 and then I like having five games at 4:00 in the window

57:27 and then I know I got my Sunday night and my Monday night.

57:28 And now we're going to have to be a a bit more flexible.

57:31 They're adding windows for Fox.

57:32 they're adding games for CBS down the line, but I understand anyone's complaint.

57:36 I also think Thanksgiving weekend when there's a game Wednesday,

57:39 Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, and Monday,

57:42 I I would like those people to say, "Okay,

57:43 I'm boycotting the Wednesday night game." You're going to watch the game.

57:46 You're going to watch the game.

57:47 And I'm to me as long as the players are, you know,

57:50 at least somewhat on board with it, Pat, I think it's fine.

57:52 And Tone, I don't know, I'll be watching.

57:54 I'm fine with that.

57:55 I'm a part of the problem.

57:56 I'm watching as well.

57:57 And they extended expanded March Madness, guess what I'm going to do.

58:00 I'll watch it all.

58:02 I'm part of the problem.

58:03 And now people are making those decisions, we're not making those decisions,

58:06 but if you put a football game on Thanksgiving Eve, yeah, I'm going to watch it.

58:12 You put a football game on Wednesday afternoon in Pittsburgh,

58:15 okay, during COVID, I'm going to watch it.

58:18 RG3 is going to get 30 yards on one rush, blow out his hamstring,

58:21 but certainly hit his over for rush yards literally on one play.

58:24 Wednesday afternoon football.

58:25 are all about.

58:26 Exactly.

58:27 [laughter]

58:27 You put a game on Saturday, I'm going to watch, Sunday, I'm going to watch.

58:29 I think they know that about us though.

58:31 Like I think they know that about us.

58:33 I do think they have been calculated on how

58:35 much for the how much do we continue to roll.

58:37 I think they've gotten They could have gotten much more greedy much quicker.

58:41 You think?

58:41 Like I think so.

58:42 I think they could have.

58:43 Us going to Wednesday, the NFL going to Wednesday is a wild move,

58:47 but it feels like it's only a matter of time before we get a one-off game.

58:50 I mean cuz we'll watch Maxxion on Wednesday.

58:52 We don't want to kill Maxxion, but if you have an NFL game on Wednesday,

58:55 I assume the ratings will be outrageous.

58:56 And I'll say during the COVID season when they had

58:58 to be so flexible and there were Tuesday night games.

59:00 And I remember it showed that that there is

59:02 a nimble ability by the NFL and the schedules that we can make this work as long

59:06 as we get the required time off after the games.

59:08 And I know again, purists are going to say,

59:10 "I don't want to not have 11 games at 1:00.

59:14 I grew up with that." But are you watching all 11 games?

59:17 How do you feel about your boss right now?

59:19 Not great.

59:21 [laughter] Nick, get that out of there.

59:21 Oh my god.

59:22 It's out of order, Brad Peter.

59:26 Play tailback in Brooklyn Brooklyn High?

59:28 Covering the Brooklyn High.

59:30 years.

59:30 Brooklyn High.

59:31 Brooklyn High.

59:32 No, I did not play.

59:33 Poly Prep is where Brian Flores went though, and he that is a Brooklyn school.

59:39 You obviously can shoot a hoop with basketball.

59:41 I did not play football in high school for real Township High.

59:43 That's not bad ball security.

59:45 I love this game.

59:45 That one I'm punching from the back.

59:47 I'm at the league I'm in the league office

59:48 in the arteries of the league office holding an official NFL football.

59:51 You better believe I'm going to hold this.

59:52 Not just arteries, this is the Art McNally.

59:54 Sorry.

59:55 Art McNally Do you know what it means to me?

59:57 Cover the tip from the back.

59:58 So someone's going to punch it from behind.

59:59 [laughter] Three points, Peter.

1:00:01 I can just go right here.

1:00:02 Right there.

1:00:02 They're not getting Do you get it out that left hand?

1:00:04 They're getting it out.

1:00:05 I got to get I can't get that out.

1:00:06 Come on now.

1:00:07 What's the movie The Program?

1:00:08 Omar Epps just all day around campus.

1:00:12 That's real life.

1:00:12 That's real football.

1:00:14 That right there is the program.

1:00:15 That's it.

1:00:16 Know that.

1:00:17 Conor Conor has a question for you, Shraedy.

1:00:18 Yeah, Shraedy will actually ask about Mendoza and the Raiders.

1:00:22 Should I really believe that they're going to win 10 12 No.

1:00:28 [laughter] What do you expect?

1:00:28 Why?

1:00:29 Over over a video of him throwing a spiral in slow motion?

1:00:32 IT WAS A SPIRAL.

1:00:33 IT WAS A JOKE.

1:00:34 IT WAS A SPIRAL.

1:00:34 IT'S possible they are one of these great these great stories,

1:00:38 but I would look closer to I would LOOK CLOSER TO [laughter] MY GOD.

1:00:50 ALL RIGHT, PLEASE TELL US HOW we're not

1:00:51 supposed to think 15 wins next year with that.

1:00:53 Kirk Cousins is quarterback.

1:00:54 What do we need to know?

1:00:55 Yeah, I think in if you listen to anything Brady has said

1:00:59 over the last 10 years of Tom Brady talking about quarterback play,

1:01:03 I think it's ideal for the quarterback to get some time behind a veteran,

1:01:06 and that's what he had, and I would imagine Kirk Cousins out of the gates.

1:01:09 That said, the Raiders they have a lot of things going for them,

1:01:12 but like let's not put that on them just yet, Conor.

1:01:15 I would say.

1:01:16 I did not see this one from Conor.

1:01:19 It's a little bit more wobbly than Yeah,

1:01:21 when's Fernando coming to get in the lineup, Pete?

1:01:23 No, that was in spring training.

1:01:24 I don't know.

1:01:25 I don't know.

1:01:26 I honestly don't know.

1:01:27 I think Kubiak and Brady are going to have a big voice

1:01:30 in this and I don't think either one is looking to rush this guy in there.

1:01:33 Well, Fernando obviously missed the White

1:01:36 House trip yesterday because he had practice.

1:01:39 He said that he's not a schedule maker, he's not he's not a super calendar guy.

1:01:42 Then he said, "I know the calendar and the schedule.

1:01:44 If I don't have practice, I'll be able to make it to celebrate with the boys."

1:01:47 He was not able to make it because he was practicing.

1:01:49 Maybe Fernando.

1:01:52 Well, that [laughter] I don't know if you heard

1:01:53 the president said Fernando called him and said, "Hey, big fan."

1:01:56 Yeah, I just believe I believe everything he says.

1:01:58 [laughter]

1:01:59 Big fan.

1:02:01 Now, on that note, it was a nice

1:02:03 celebration of college football at the White House.

1:02:04 Oh, yeah.

1:02:05 It was.

1:02:05 And I do appreciate the fact that Kurt

1:02:07 Signetti was kind of getting his flowers right there.

1:02:10 And I also appreciate the fact that it was

1:02:12 clearly the first time that that message was being read,

1:02:14 you know, and the Rose Bowl, 38 to 3.

1:02:18 HOLY [laughter] YEAH.

1:02:21 THAT WAS A THAT WAS A GOOD MOMENT

1:02:22 because what that Indiana team did do was outrageous.

1:02:25 I'm happy they're getting celebrated yet again.

1:02:27 But Signetti, although I I think he

1:02:29 probably did appreciate getting his flowers there,

1:02:31 all he's thinking about is get us out of here.

1:02:33 We don't need to think about this, let's on to the next one.

1:02:35 College football's great,

1:02:36 I'm happy they celebrated it and we're only 109 days away from college ball,

1:02:40 let alone how far we are from NFL ball.

1:02:42 We're lucky to be here and Shrags I love you, brother.

1:02:45 you for everything here.

1:02:45 Thank you.

1:02:46 I'm excited for the rest of the day with you.

1:02:47 Oh, we're going to hang.

1:02:48 That's it.

1:02:49 We had a We had a good We had some good morning interactions, too.

1:02:51 Come on.

1:02:52 Great morning.

1:02:52 New York's been fantastic.

1:02:54 We'll be back on the other side.

1:02:55 P.K.

1:02:56 Subban will be joining us.

1:02:57 Kurt Herbstreet will be joining us.

1:02:58 We will see you then.

1:02:59 Goodbye.

1:03:04 But it is great to be DOWN HERE IN TITLETOWN, ALABAMA.

1:03:09 NOW,

1:03:10 [cheering] let's do a little history here, shall we?

1:03:12 This is What's your name?

1:03:13 Gabby.

1:03:15 Gabby, you're a senior here, right?

1:03:16 That's correct.

1:03:17 And what is your major?

1:03:18 Chemical engineering.

1:03:21 Okay.

1:03:21 Okay, uh have you ever kicked anything before?

1:03:25 No.

1:03:26 Okay, but you said you want to do it not get somebody ELSE BECAUSE BECAUSE I

1:03:30 CAMPED OUT FOR SO many hours with my friend

1:03:33 and I got lucky enough to get picked.

1:03:36 So, LET'S GO FOR IT.

1:03:37 YES!

1:03:38 YEAH!

1:03:39 [cheering] YES!

1:03:40 WE LOVE THAT, GABBY.

1:03:41 $300,000 if you make this kick right here, Gabby, okay?

1:03:47 gosh.

1:03:47 That seems fair.

1:03:48 I don't know what a chemical engineering degree costs,

1:03:50 but hopefully that'll help towards it all.

1:03:52 My parents would love that.

1:03:53 Okay.

1:03:53 I'll throw in 200 as well.

1:03:55 HE STARTED TO IT.

1:03:56 $500,000!

1:03:58 [cheering] All right, GABBY.

1:04:03 OKAY.

1:04:04 [cheering] GOOD LUCK.

1:04:04 WE'RE PULLING FOR YOU.

1:04:05 33 YARDS.

1:04:06 ALL YOU GOT to do is make the kick.

1:04:07 Good luck, Gabby.

1:04:08 Okay.

1:04:09 Thank you.

1:04:09 any final thoughts?

1:04:11 I love you, mom and DAD AND BROTHER.

1:04:14 [laughter]

1:04:14 LOVE THAT.

1:04:15 MOM AND DAD, HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD TIME.

1:04:17 Ladies and gentlemen, Gabby Mathis, chemical engineer, senior here AT ALABAMA.

1:04:23 WHAT CHANCE TO WIN $500,000?

1:04:28 IT'S COME TO THIS, HUH?

1:04:29 It's come to this.

1:04:32 It's come to this.

1:04:34 Dad, this is why you smacked me in the face.

1:04:35 Kirk Herbstreit smacked me in the face.

1:04:38 How about this?

1:04:39 How about this, Gabby?

1:04:41 If Kirk Herbstreit can throw that football through those uprights right there,

1:04:46 we'll give you $300,000.

1:04:50 Are you OKAY WITH THAT?

1:04:52 $300,000 if Kirk HERBSTREIT CAN THROW IT THROUGH THOSE UPRIGHTS,

1:04:57 FORMER OHIO STATE QUARTERBACK.

1:04:59 OH, BOY.

1:04:59 NO WARM-UP, FULL SUIT FOR GABBY!

1:05:06 [cheering] [laughter] GET GABBY.

1:05:12 GET GABBY.

1:05:12 GET GABBY.

1:05:14 [cheering] [laughter] [cheering] [music] [cheering] [music]

1:07:05 HERE [music] IN INDIANAPOLIS, Pat's in beautiful Midtown Manhattan.

1:07:10 SPORTS!

1:07:12 THAT'S WHAT WE'RE DOING, RIGHT, PAT?

1:07:13 Thanks to Peter Schrager, obviously.

1:07:14 I know you're going to have a couple of other guests join you in studio soon.

1:07:17 This alternate angle that you are controlling is amazing.

1:07:20 Yeah, I think this one really gets a shot in the vibe

1:07:23 of what you need to feel here at the Art McNally you bopping around, too.

1:07:26 How you're bopping around in frame, too.

1:07:27 Yeah, so that's the thing is I can't really see

1:07:30 what you all are seeing in this particular Yeah, okay.

1:07:34 Let's go over here.

1:07:35 Maybe a little bit too tight here with the laws in New York City.

1:07:40 [laughter] Uh you know, I've been at the altitude of the Brunson boiler,

1:07:43 you know, I have certainly done that.

1:07:46 AJ, it's outrageous here.

1:07:48 It really is.

1:07:49 I just went out to the bathroom, you know, to run.

1:07:51 In the hallway, you run into the literally

1:07:52 the people that are creating the schedules, and then you got the other side,

1:07:55 we got a butter runs into our officiating person,

1:07:58 they got a meeting about something else.

1:07:59 It's like always cooking.

1:08:00 I appreciate something that feels alive.

1:08:02 This office certainly does that.

1:08:04 And today is a special day in sports.

1:08:06 Obviously, we get a chance to celebrate the NBA playoffs and the NHL playoffs,

1:08:09 but here we're getting an all-access look at the entire NFL offices

1:08:13 and what next year and what this league is currently up to.

1:08:16 And this ball that I'm holding right here, I was told don't to break it.

1:08:18 I was just kind of tossing it around earlier.

1:08:20 This is a Super Bowl.

1:08:21 This is a Super Bowl.

1:08:22 Yeah, yeah, this is they got this from the basement,

1:08:24 brought up the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl ball.

1:08:27 I like the Sam Darnold does like a little

1:08:29 bit of a little bit of clay on this thing, a little bit of stick,

1:08:32 you know, a little bit of brown,

1:08:33 a little bit of It does have a little bit of a a diamondy, you know, Yeah.

1:08:38 It's certainly not a ball that you would like to kick,

1:08:41 but it doesn't feel as if it's deflated at all

1:08:43 as we head to the toxic table at Boston Connor, one half of the hammer.

1:08:47 Done.

1:08:49 Cowboys AP tone.

1:08:50 This ball is fully pumped still, months after the Super Bowl.

1:08:53 It was in the basement here, Con man.

1:08:54 Your thoughts on the Seattle Seahawks Sam Darnold Super Bowl ball.

1:08:59 Probably a poopy ball.

1:09:01 I feel like the deflated jokes is probably being in a what

1:09:04 a controlled temperature environment in the basement

1:09:06 of very consistent what 65 degrees perhaps

1:09:10 you know if you were to drop that thing down to a 20

1:09:12 degrees the ball would shrink in fact that's just science that's just facts.

1:09:17 Interesting cuz I don't believe Sam Darnold threw any touchdowns with any

1:09:20 of those football so IT'S PROBABLY KENNETH WALKER'S BALL if anything.

1:09:24 Wow okay well I would like I assume Kenneth Walker kept all

1:09:27 the balls he scored I don't think this one made it into the game.

1:09:30 No is it rubbed on it looks rubbed on.

1:09:32 I don't know if we're ball 66 I mean you know

1:09:35 a lot had to [laughter] happen a lot had to happen to get

1:09:37 to this one but it was certainly it was certainly which which

1:09:41 the this one right here okay go ahead and zoom in on there yeah.

1:09:44 Oh that is yeah that's a Yeah you see that.

1:09:47 sweet.

1:09:48 Okay.

1:09:49 Yeah.

1:09:49 That looks not like that I see that signature on is he in the building

1:09:52 today or You're talking about where is he at oh he's over here.

1:10:00 No he's on the other side.

1:10:03 Yep.

1:10:02 Where is he there he is this one right here you're talking about that guy.

1:10:06 Yeah see or is he too scared.

1:10:08 Can you tell us who's opening the year

1:10:10 against the team on that football or Where

1:10:14 is Raj now I think about it kind of in his house right now aren't we.

1:10:19 Yeah.

1:10:19 We did ask some tough questions at the draft so he's probably avoiding.

1:10:23 Raj should have interest music now I think about it.

1:10:26 If the if the glass broke and he walked

1:10:28 in here I think that would be apropos the situation.

1:10:30 That would be sick.

1:10:31 I I think that would be a fantastic setup

1:10:34 for what we're doing but yeah life is good

1:10:36 is what I'm saying AJ thank you for traveling

1:10:38 to the Thunderdome basketball stories obviously never ending the NHL

1:10:43 obviously continues to have a great night and last

1:10:45 night we had broken noses superstar we had blood

1:10:48 we had goals we had everything con man

1:10:51 the NHL continues to deliver great hockey every single night.

1:10:55 Yeah and this is kind of the first one that was different.

1:10:58 The Wild Avalanche, you see it's only 1-1 with a minute left in the second.

1:11:01 MacKinnon took a vicious puck right off the schnoz.

1:11:06 Uh he ended up coming back.

1:11:07 I'm not sure what they did to him in the back.

1:11:10 What Yeah, there it is.

1:11:11 And it was tough, too.

1:11:12 They don't actually show the slapper,

1:11:14 but that was basically a clap bomb from his own defenseman

1:11:17 trying to clean up the garbage in front of the net.

1:11:19 It goes right to his grill.

1:11:21 Um he ends up coming back scoring an empty one.

1:11:24 Excuse me, empty netter winner, uh which is pretty pretty nice.

1:11:28 But this is a much different game, low scoring.

1:11:31 It was about 1 to 1 halfway through the third

1:11:33 when uh the Avalanche ended up getting it done.

1:11:35 That was the first goal for the Avs from Kadri.

1:11:38 There's their second one uh to kind of put them up.

1:11:41 Uh the Wild would answer immediately, which was fantastic,

1:11:45 kind of make this game a little more interesting going into the uh you know,

1:11:49 back half of the third period.

1:11:50 But yeah, fantastic night of hockey.

1:11:53 Here's the MacKinnon empty netter to kind of ice the game.

1:11:56 Everyone cleared out after.

1:11:58 Avs take command in, you know, 3-1 lead.

1:12:00 And then tonight we're back in the uh Bell Centre, the Centre Bell in Montreal.

1:12:05 So, yeah, the NHL playoffs roll on.

1:12:07 They've been fantastic.

1:12:09 Sabres at Canadiens, huge game for the Sabres trying to kind of even the series.

1:12:14 And then Ducks against ties Golden Knights, game five, I believe.

1:12:18 Whoever wins game five, the percentage to win the series,

1:12:21 you know, goes way, way up.

1:12:23 So, we'll see what happens tonight.

1:12:25 But yeah, it starts in Montreal in that crazy environment.

1:12:28 Can't wait to see that.

1:12:29 Sports are obviously spectacular.

1:12:31 Montreal and Buffalo have both showcased that all playoffs.

1:12:35 AJ, uh NBA story is potentially LeBron's done.

1:12:39 Mhm.

1:12:39 Okay, as a kid from Ohio, how would that make you feel?

1:12:43 Would you would you look in the mirror and say,

1:12:46 "You know what, AJ, our stars are hanging them up?" [laughter]

1:12:52 They're makes you feel old, doesn't it?

1:12:54 Yes, it starts making you feel old.

1:12:56 Just LeBron James playing basketball has just been

1:12:59 my a part of my life seemingly since memory.

1:13:01 So, for him to hang it up, I didn't expect to start thinking like this.

1:13:05 It can't go out the way what That cannot be the last time.

1:13:08 That can That just cannot be.

1:13:09 And and I don't want to repeat what I said last hour,

1:13:11 but it kind of stopped cuz Chris Paul was on and he

1:13:13 has much better takes than than we would ever have.

1:13:16 There's no way that is the way LeBron James' career ends last night.

1:13:21 There I cannot have it.

1:13:22 Just as [clears throat] somebody that has been There's no way that Foxy,

1:13:25 you're a die-hard Bron James fan as well.

1:13:28 There's no way that's how this whole thing stops.

1:13:30 I didn't invest my time in being I didn't

1:13:33 get into fights with people about Michael Jordan stuff,

1:13:35 me talking out of my ass,

1:13:36 not knowing anything about what basketball used to be back

1:13:39 there to defend LeBron for it to be 1:45 a.m.

1:13:43 on Prime getting swept by the Oklahoma City

1:13:46 Thunder with nobody really celebrating until afterwards going,

1:13:49 "This could be his last one, Mike.

1:13:51 This could be" Shouldn't we be doing this the last couple

1:13:53 weeks if we think this is what it's going to be?

1:13:54 This guy's given a lot to the game, Foxy.

1:13:56 Pat, we've watched LeBron our entire lives and if we know anything about LeBron,

1:14:02 there's a 0% chance this is going to be it.

1:14:05 There's a 1,000% chance that next year we're going

1:14:09 to see him at every single away arena getting

1:14:12 a standing ovation and they're going to he's going

1:14:14 to make it all about himself one more time.

1:14:17 [laughter] LeBron fan.

1:14:19 I love LeBron.

1:14:21 He knows exactly what he'll do.

1:14:22 He deserves it and that's exactly what he'll do and that's what

1:14:26 I hope he does and I'll be watching every single one of them.

1:14:29 AJ, what does that mean?

1:14:31 What are you just saying?

1:14:31 a shot at him for saying you're his biggest fan then you just take a complete

1:14:34 shot at him saying what he's a His ego's out of control or he's selfish.

1:14:38 Is that what you're trying to say?

1:14:39 NO, I'M SAYING WHAT THE HECK?

1:14:41 THAT'S WHAT FOXY'S [laughter] trying to say.

1:14:43 I don't know why you guys took it that way.

1:14:44 about himself.

1:14:45 That's what someone with a giant ego would do.

1:14:47 But that's not LeBron.

1:14:48 That's a super negative way to take it.

1:14:50 I just think he's the greatest of all time and he

1:14:52 deserves that from every single away arena and all fans worldwide.

1:14:56 That love basketball.

1:14:57 to the Cavs for another year.

1:14:58 That'd be cool.

1:14:59 Go play one more year for the Cavs.

1:15:01 Go play for the Pacers.

1:15:02 Uh D By, it sounds like you think it's potentially over.

1:15:05 Is that what it sounds like?

1:15:06 Uh potentially.

1:15:07 I wouldn't say a zero I'm not with Foxy though.

1:15:09 I don't think zero percent chance.

1:15:11 Uh I think it's a 25% chance 75% chance he comes back.

1:15:15 25% chance he retires and goes off into the night.

1:15:19 Uh and I only say that because of the things that he's been saying.

1:15:22 He's been kind of putting it out there.

1:15:23 You know LeBron is like very uh very locked Yeah,

1:15:28 very locked into what he's actually putting out there.

1:15:30 So he talked about hey, I'm going to spend a lot more time with my wife.

1:15:32 We see I've never seen him post a lot

1:15:35 during playoff runs especially when he was with the Heat.

1:15:37 We go zero dark thirty.

1:15:39 But I saw him posting, you know, golf videos down 0-3 in the series.

1:15:43 I've never seen that from LeBron.

1:15:45 So the love of golf, chasing the bug.

1:15:47 We just saw the Kevin Hart roast.

1:15:49 Kevin Hart said a couple weeks ago,

1:15:50 hey I thought about giving up stand-up and giving

1:15:53 up this to chase this new golf love thing.

1:15:56 So um I wouldn't be shocked if he just launches a new brand,

1:15:59 does a decision 2.0 and says hey,

1:16:02 I'm going to go off spend time with my family, spend time on this course.

1:16:05 Whatever he wants to do though, take your time.

1:16:07 Uh like CP said, it's probably the last thing on his mind getting swept.

1:16:10 It's part of it.

1:16:11 He's been swept.

1:16:12 He's won championships.

1:16:13 He's done all the things that basketball, you know, you can experience in that.

1:16:16 So uh whatever he does do, man, you know,

1:16:17 we'll we'll be watching and we'll be talking about it.

1:16:20 Yeah, if he takes his talents to the golf course,

1:16:22 that'd be a crazy way to end this.

1:16:23 Okay?

1:16:24 That'd be it'd be a crazy way to end this if that's what he was to do.

1:16:27 And on that note, whatever he wants to do that makes him happy,

1:16:30 I will certainly celebrate the hell out of it.

1:16:32 I just don't love the fact that it could

1:16:34 be over the way that it ended last night.

1:16:37 Uh LeBron James, uh maybe he doesn't start on a team next year.

1:16:41 And maybe he gets picked up halfway through the season,

1:16:43 three quarters way through the season, maybe just does another playoff run.

1:16:45 Maybe he does another playoff run.

1:16:46 Maybe he joins a team that could go on to win.

1:16:48 And maybe, I said it in brief passing there and everybody kind of shoot it off,

1:16:52 maybe he does come play for the Pacers.

1:16:53 He's not going to miss the end of the season.

1:16:55 Maybe he does come play for the Pacers.

1:16:56 What?

1:16:57 Uh-oh.

1:16:57 What is that?

1:16:58 Be the first to speak of LeBron and goats.

1:17:01 Yeah, you know who.

1:17:03 You know you you know who.

1:17:05 Oh.

1:17:06 Ladies and gentlemen, joining us is not just Peter Herbstreit.

1:17:10 Okay, who is obviously the most notable dog, I do believe.

1:17:14 Peter hosting the upfronts?

1:17:16 Peter's part of the upfronts, should be, by the way.

1:17:18 If we're trying to get money, let's send Peter in there, for sure.

1:17:21 I mean, if that is the the showcase to show off, ladies and gentlemen,

1:17:25 kicking off every NFL season on Thursday night with Amazon,

1:17:27 College GameDay's face and face of college football,

1:17:31 voice coach Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit.

1:17:35 [applause and cheering] Hey, which which side are you going to put the Yeah.

1:17:38 He taught me that.

1:17:38 I'll go left here.

1:17:39 You taught me that back in the day.

1:17:41 Do you remember telling me that?

1:17:42 I was doing Thursday night football.

1:17:43 It was a Remy operation, which means ass operation.

1:17:47 Everything is super delayed, you have no the Vegas flag football game.

1:17:52 Yes, exactly.

1:17:53 That was when you told me.

1:17:54 It was after So, I was doing Thursday night football with Matt Hasselbeck,

1:17:57 Adam Amin, Molly McGrath.

1:17:59 It was an incredible crew, incredible Seth Greenberg.

1:18:04 Want to make sure I get the names right.

1:18:05 We were doing it all,

1:18:06 and I had the headset on, and I was on the outside in the microphone

1:18:09 want to you don't want to look Yeah.

1:18:11 with the Microphone's covering my face.

1:18:12 Herbie goes, "Get the microphone." I didn't say it like that.

1:18:16 But, that's how I took it.

1:18:16 It was [laughter] like, "Hey, Hey, I said just flip flip it over here.

1:18:19 other side, cuz you've been doing How long have you

1:18:21 been doing television now?" Uh that's 31 years this fall.

1:18:25 Damn.

1:18:27 Yeah.

1:18:28 31 years, and uh Peter, how many years, Peter?

1:18:31 Peter is this is year three year three coming up.

1:18:34 Uh Peter said he had off season.

1:18:35 I've seen him in the pool and I've seen him live it out there.

1:18:38 He is a beautiful dog.

1:18:40 In any room he walks into obviously the aura is impeccable.

1:18:43 The room that we're going to be walking

1:18:44 into is obviously one that's going to be celebrating

1:18:46 sport in a big way by investing billions

1:18:48 of dollars into it so we certainly appreciate that.

1:18:50 College GameDay though is the bit we're going to be doing up there.

1:18:54 College football 109 days away.

1:18:56 Okay, we just passed the halfway point.

1:18:58 109 days.

1:18:58 We're close.

1:18:59 What are your thoughts on the current state of college football?

1:19:02 Honestly, the last few years it's been

1:19:04 so much chaos driven conversation outside the game

1:19:06 but then we look at the ratings of the sport itself up into the right.

1:19:09 Everybody loves the product.

1:19:11 How do you feel where we're sitting right now?

1:19:12 I'm kind of like

1:19:14 [laughter]

1:19:13 I feel like every time we get into the off season we we get into oh no,

1:19:18 what's going to happen and then we get

1:19:21 to the fall and attendance has never been better,

1:19:24 interest has never been higher.

1:19:26 Like we keep waiting for it to to just

1:19:28 explode and it and it just gets more intriguing.

1:19:32 I think the playoff going to 12 and we can talk about that the 24.

1:19:36 I think as we predicted I mean it's now you got last two weeks

1:19:39 of the season still have 20 teams that are

1:19:41 trying to throw their hat in the ring.

1:19:43 So I don't know.

1:19:44 I've given up on saying it's doomsday.

1:19:46 I think it's more about we need to get

1:19:49 some parameters as everybody always says on the NIL

1:19:52 and the portal but I think overall it's

1:19:55 creating a ton of interest in my opinion.

1:19:58 of interest.

1:19:58 There's new things to talk about.

1:19:59 Obviously contracts are a massive piece of the conversation around the NFL.

1:20:03 That's only going to become more normalized I think with college football.

1:20:07 some of these quarterbacks panel taking a pay cut Yeah.

1:20:10 to go to the NFL.

1:20:11 Crazy.

1:20:12 Like guys like Carson Beck they're making more in college than they're

1:20:15 making And then the reports of what the offers were turned down.

1:20:18 Like hey, this guy Peter Berg Peter Berg Peter Peter Berg Peter Berg by the way

1:20:26 [laughter] Peter Herbstreit absolutely.

1:20:27 Did he high step there?

1:20:28 I think he just ran through a camera.

1:20:30 I mean Peter That's who that's Peter Berg Peter Herbstreit.

1:20:33 Geez, I'm so sorry Peter [laughter] I know.

1:20:52 Is he Is he Time like that.

1:21:03 Oh, man.

1:21:04 Best back Probably the best back.

1:21:05 Maybe one of the best college players in the country returning.

1:21:13 Yeah.

1:21:22 Yeah, what do you think about that?

1:21:23 I assume you hate it.

1:21:24 Huh?

1:21:25 What?

1:21:25 I think you would hate it.

1:21:28 Um Kind of indifferent.

1:21:30 Okay.

1:21:31 Until Until you Until you get experience it's hard to hate it.

1:21:37 Um I do love that our our regular season is

1:21:40 probably the best thing going in sports cuz you know,

1:21:43 even calling these NFL games we just had one of our games got out.

1:21:47 Calling these NFL games Detroit at Buffalo.

1:21:50 Okay.

1:21:50 Which is going to be awesome.

1:21:53 Yeah, open up the new stadium.

1:21:54 It's going to be amazing.

1:21:55 Detroit obviously looking for a bounce back year after last year

1:21:59 and and you would think Buffalo with a new head coach.

1:22:02 There's a lot going on there.

1:22:03 So, two great quarterbacks.

1:22:04 That's going to be hyped up.

1:22:06 But, I think in the NFL you you kind of feel like you get to week 10,

1:22:09 11, 12 and all of a sudden and you lived it.

1:22:12 Everything is like margin of error is like this.

1:22:15 We got to win four of our last Everything The intensity cranks up.

1:22:17 I feel like in college kind of starts that way, you know?

1:22:20 And would we lose that if you went to 24?

1:22:24 Would we lose the importance of Ohio State, Michigan,

1:22:26 Alabama, Auburn, all those big games at the end.

1:22:29 This is it.

1:22:30 Yeah.

1:22:31 already there?

1:22:31 That's what you do.

1:22:32 Yeah, exactly.

1:22:32 Especially with the championship games that I know the coaches

1:22:36 Those Those need to go.

1:22:37 coaches came out and voted on the conference championship leaving

1:22:39 and the schedule changing and we'd like this and we do this.

1:22:42 And then from our understanding, that was met with a "That's cute, coaches."

1:22:49 [laughter] Thanks for your input.

1:22:50 Exactly.

1:22:50 That is That is kind of how it was meant.

1:22:53 But I think the coaches were just trying to say, "Hey,

1:22:55 we would agree if this is what it was." But I think

1:22:57 what they were laying out was a lot of how fans would feel,

1:22:59 too, about what the season could be.

1:23:01 What's reality?

1:23:02 I think the championship games get a lot of money.

1:23:04 Yeah.

1:23:04 But let's find a new Let's just within this this new structure

1:23:08 take whatever money that the conferences are losing and make them whole.

1:23:11 Agreed.

1:23:12 Right?

1:23:12 And then let's just do what's right for the game, you know?

1:23:15 So that up there at the upfronts cuz that the people in that room

1:23:18 may might be the people that could be able to do that.

1:23:20 Whatever you guys say, let's say.

1:23:21 No, I'm not going to say.

1:23:22 You usually say.

1:23:22 You usually say, "Hey,

1:23:23 let's take the money from the conference championship games and pick that up.

1:23:26 Let's move that to some other Let's make sure we're moving.

1:23:29 Let's do it for a greater good." But do you think 24 is too many?

1:23:31 Do you think that I mean, that's a big number.

1:23:33 did Pittiti want it?

1:23:35 Pittiti was the way, he started it and everyone else IS LIKE, "NO WAY."

1:23:40 YEP.

1:23:39 And now everybody except one person is like, "Let's do 24."

1:23:44 Yeah, and I think it's probably going to happen.

1:23:46 As long as there aren't AQs, let's just take the best teams.

1:23:49 I don't I don't want to say Big 10 you

1:23:50 get five or six and SEC you get five or six.

1:23:53 ACC, Big 12, you only get two or three.

1:23:56 Let's not associate anything, in my opinion.

1:23:59 Let's just rank the teams at the end and stack them up and those are your teams.

1:24:03 I agree completely.

1:24:04 And Notre Dame getting an opportunity to get in as opposed

1:24:07 to winning their conference championship cuz they're not in a conference.

1:24:09 If they're ranked in the top 12 or whatever,

1:24:11 top 20 I guess it'll have to be or top 15,

1:24:13 whatever it goes to more teams, they get an automatic bid.

1:24:15 I think like people automatically want to hate that, but like

1:24:19 Notre Dame's been able to do this without a conference somehow.

1:24:21 I I don't know how.

1:24:22 A lot of people have tried to do it.

1:24:23 They have not been able to pull it off.

1:24:24 Notre Dame obviously has power.

1:24:25 Do you feel good about that?

1:24:27 Do you think that inevitably changes?

1:24:28 Cuz if Notre Dame's in it, obviously it's much better for ball.

1:24:31 Yeah.

1:24:31 But then there is like the you know,

1:24:33 like West Virginia is about to become you know Yep.

1:24:36 a real wagon.

1:24:36 Maybe we should just get an automatic bid.

1:24:39 [laughter] You know, maybe West Virginia should get in.

1:24:41 Notre Dame's going to have to work hard not to get in it.

1:24:44 I agree.

1:24:44 Right.

1:24:44 I mean, nine and three would probably get Notre Dame in.

1:24:47 I mean, 10 and two I mean,

1:24:49 at 24 teams How would you You think nine and three are getting in, Kirk?

1:24:53 You think he loses that game to Georgia?

1:24:55 People are going to be so pissed and yeah, 24.

1:24:57 You're I'm saying if it's 24 teams,

1:25:00 it's hard it'd be hard for them to Look at my man here.

1:25:03 It'd be hard for them to not get in.

1:25:05 I I um I one thing I get concerned about is the the way

1:25:10 the coaches responded last year to [snorts]

1:25:13 playing big games in a non-conference.

1:25:16 Um I fear that everybody's answer is to just go

1:25:19 cupcake central cuz at the end of the day, AJ,

1:25:22 I don't know how you feel about this, but in like late November,

1:25:25 early December no one's talking about well,

1:25:28 Texas went to Columbus and lost by seven.

1:25:30 All they're doing is stacking up wins.

1:25:32 No no one cares about Texas went to Columbus

1:25:36 in a in a great game and they should to me,

1:25:39 even though they lost you should get you should get

1:25:41 points for that as opposed to getting points taken away.

1:25:44 But nobody I think the coaches and the ADs are looking

1:25:47 at that and saying what's the point in playing Ohio State if I'm Texas?

1:25:52 If if we lose, it's going to be held against

1:25:54 your whole thing.

1:25:55 Screws everything.

1:25:56 Just if you don't make it, you're done.

1:25:57 Like you're you're fired if you're the coach.

1:25:59 Alabama, Ohio State kept each other on the schedule, right, AJ?

1:26:03 They did.

1:26:02 Yeah, they did, I think.

1:26:03 Yeah.

1:26:04 I think that's a big deal.

1:26:05 How do you feel about AJ Day going to Northwestern?

1:26:08 I like that move as well.

1:26:09 Yeah, it's great.

1:26:10 I think that's an option.

1:26:10 Kelly, yeah.

1:26:11 Should be nice.

1:26:12 Yeah, but I think [snorts] that's good family dynamic.

1:26:14 Okay, first of all the dad who's the head coach of Ohio State

1:26:18 could have easily made a bid big stink force his kid into Ohio State,

1:26:23 especially if he's getting offered scholarships from other Big Ten schools.

1:26:26 Could certainly do that.

1:26:27 The fact that both the son and the dad did

1:26:30 not do anything that's seemingly obnoxious in this entire thing,

1:26:35 I think we all respect greatly.

1:26:36 Don't you think so, AJ?

1:26:37 Like legitimately.

1:26:38 I respect the fact that because he has committed to Northwestern,

1:26:42 Ryan Day could abuse his power and say I'm giving

1:26:45 this kid a scholarship to be on the Ohio State Buckeyes.

1:26:48 And everybody on Earth, probably in Ohio as well,

1:26:50 would potentially say that kid doesn't deserve to be a buck.

1:26:52 What are we doing?

1:26:53 We're giving out scholarships just cuz he's a kid.

1:26:54 Instead, it feels like they handled it all perfectly.

1:26:56 And I like the kid and I like Ryan Moore.

1:26:59 And I'm pulling for Northwestern now because the way it all worked out.

1:27:01 AJ, how do you feel about it?

1:27:03 And I appreciate the fact that they handled it that way.

1:27:06 Yeah, I think it's awesome.

1:27:07 Yeah, I mean it is kind of a weird spot if you're the head coach at Ohio

1:27:10 State and your son is being recruited around

1:27:11 the country to play there to play the quarterback.

1:27:14 Yeah.

1:27:15 I don't know, like it would be really awkward, I think,

1:27:17 to offer your own son or to try to bring your own son in to jam him in.

1:27:22 Like that's kind of I don't know.

1:27:23 It definitely can happen and it does happen.

1:27:25 But what could be even weirder is if, you know,

1:27:27 a couple years down the road and you got you got your defense

1:27:30 game plan on how to kill your own son at the quarterback [laughter] position.

1:27:33 How do we get the quarterback then also Northwestern's just letting Ryan Day

1:27:36 kind of walk around the facility, you know?

1:27:38 Yeah.

1:27:39 Yeah, that's pretty That's pretty cool.

1:27:41 AJ wants to go see Michigan, doesn't he?

1:27:44 Yeah, he does.

1:27:46 [laughter]

1:27:45 Got a full visit.

1:27:46 Going to snoop around.

1:27:47 How's that going up there as a Michigan man?

1:27:49 We saw some highlights out of Chase out of the spring game.

1:27:51 Tylon Diggs, he was moving, wasn't he?

1:27:53 Yeah, I I was I was watching it.

1:27:54 Kirk was getting a ton of air time.

1:27:56 It was when Chase was in Yeah,

1:27:59 Chase was in versus CJ Carr's brother, I believe, who's now at Michigan.

1:28:03 And he was getting He was scrambling.

1:28:04 He was moving good.

1:28:05 It was a He looked good out there, Kirk.

1:28:07 Yeah, it's it's going well.

1:28:08 I mean, it it was a pretty rocky road for our first

1:28:10 year with everything that went down, in that last fall,

1:28:14 but I think with as you'd expect,

1:28:17 I mean just a I I was surprised how winning him wanted to come back to college.

1:28:21 I figured he was pretty much done with his career,

1:28:24 but boy, they hired the right guy,

1:28:26 the right staff to really get this thing back in order and kind

1:28:29 of live up to what the Michigan standard is both on and off the field.

1:28:34 Schefter was hosting some MC event on some Illuminati party.

1:28:38 So, Michigan's going to have a couple billion dollars to spend.

1:28:41 Yeah.

1:28:41 They got a lot of money, I guess.

1:28:43 I just read Wasn't there something that broke the other day?

1:28:45 Something insane.

1:28:46 Two billion in an investment in Open AI.

1:28:48 Yeah.

1:28:48 Chase getting 5 million or something like that.

1:28:51 [laughter] Yeah.

1:28:52 Look at this fresh suit.

1:28:53 People's looking pretty clean.

1:28:54 I don't know if this is NIL

1:28:55 money coming through here from the Michigan Wolverines.

1:28:58 Dee But has a question for you, Herbie, about ball.

1:29:00 Yeah, Curry, kind of face of both leagues now.

1:29:03 You're on the mic, you got to be locked in.

1:29:04 Which team, I guess either collegiately or in the pros,

1:29:08 has surprised you the most or what gets

1:29:10 you most excited about going into this year,

1:29:12 whether be the portal and recruiting on the college level

1:29:14 or the off season with the draft and free agency?

1:29:19 Um I was did the Thursday night, first round of the draft,

1:29:23 and I don't know how you guys felt.

1:29:26 The New York Jets that were just kind of used to things

1:29:29 not going well for them actually had a pretty good weekend.

1:29:33 You know what I'm saying?

1:29:35 I was pretty I was pretty energized by what they were doing.

1:29:39 And Aaron Glenn, who survived A lot of times

1:29:41 you go through a tough first year, you're you're gone.

1:29:44 And to their credit, they stuck with him.

1:29:46 They signed Breece Hall, obviously, to the long-term deal.

1:29:50 I They're they're I'm not saying that they're

1:29:52 going to make huge moves this year.

1:29:54 I just was surprised to see some positive moves being made by the Jets.

1:29:58 I'm excited about Kansas City.

1:30:00 I I think it's almost as if people have have maybe felt that that's the end,

1:30:06 you know, because of the injury to Mahomes,

1:30:08 because of some of the the losses that they've had, you know,

1:30:11 is is it time for Kansas City's story to be over?

1:30:13 And I don't obviously I don't think it is.

1:30:16 I think anytime you question Patrick Mahomes,

1:30:19 you know, he's going to come out swinging.

1:30:21 Um and I think that's kind of how it

1:30:23 is right now with uh with where Kansas City is.

1:30:26 I appreciate the fact that two multiple points.

1:30:29 I love a doubted Patrick Mahomes getting an opportunity to do something.

1:30:32 I like Travis Kelce coming back and not liking that that's how that ended.

1:30:35 This is paper Ben Peter, sorry.

1:30:39 [laughter] I do that a lot.

1:30:39 How often?

1:30:40 Once a day, maybe.

1:30:42 Bro, Ben what?

1:30:43 I know.

1:30:43 I don't you know Ben.

1:30:44 Yeah, me and Ben talk.

1:30:45 Yeah.

1:30:46 I'm happy that started this entire trend, by the way.

1:30:48 And then Peter is obviously a phenomenal.

1:30:50 Yeah.

1:30:51 Uh man I You got to you think Kansas City's going to make a move?

1:30:54 like that.

1:30:55 I also like the fact that the Jets had

1:30:57 um no leaks at the number two overall pick.

1:31:00 Yeah.

1:31:00 Obviously you guys are doing game day on ABC.

1:31:02 Yeah.

1:31:02 Number two pick, the odds were changing day of, the odds

1:31:05 were changing and we're trying to clean that up.

1:31:07 Yeah, I'm sorry.

1:31:07 it.

1:31:08 Now don't I did it.

1:31:08 All right.

1:31:09 I'll get it.

1:31:09 I got it.

1:31:10 Go ahead.

1:31:12 [laughter] Go ahead.

1:31:13 What are you saying?

1:31:13 Ohio guy right there.

1:31:15 Yep.

1:31:15 There you go.

1:31:15 [clears throat] Salt of the earth.

1:31:18 What are you saying?

1:31:18 I like that shirt.

1:31:19 I like that

1:31:19 The Reds could never.

1:31:21 Watch out Ben.

1:31:21 Don't don't back up Kirk.

1:31:22 You know back up.

1:31:24 No, no.

1:31:25 I'm not backing up.

1:31:25 Yeah, cuz you got you got Peter's face right next to your hind end right now.

1:31:30 [laughter]

1:31:30 All right, thank you for doing that.

1:31:31 I I gave Peter some water.

1:31:32 That's 100% on me.

1:31:33 I like that uh Patrick Mahomes has a chance to be angry,

1:31:36 okay, and motivated and over looked.

1:31:38 I think so, too.

1:31:39 Uh but with the Jets not having any leaks at the number two overall pick,

1:31:43 I thought that was a special thing.

1:31:44 Legit, I thought that was a special thing.

1:31:46 Did you guys have any tips on your show?

1:31:48 Uh no, we didn't know.

1:31:49 We were kind of flying Boss of the bosses.

1:31:50 Are you That's boss of the bosses.

1:31:52 That's boss of the bosses right there.

1:31:53 He's dressed up for the upfronts.

1:31:55 This guy's been dressed super fashionable all day, so on this morning,

1:31:58 fresh out of the local New York City coffee shop Starbucks,

1:32:01 he looked absolutely amazing.

1:32:04 You're sweating your out.

1:32:04 Are you okay?

1:32:05 Yeah, I shouldn't have gone hoodie on them.

1:32:07 I'm warm.

1:32:08 I'm warm in here.

1:32:09 Did you walk like seriously I walked over.

1:32:11 Unbelievable day here.

1:32:13 horrific [laughter] day.

1:32:14 You got I saw no human poop.

1:32:17 Well, that's great.

1:32:18 I know.

1:32:18 [laughter] I I think that Were you expecting to see that?

1:32:21 Yes.

1:32:21 I I mean this is just like when we went to the San Francisco.

1:32:24 In San Francisco, I'm I have the internet, you know, okay?

1:32:27 Yeah.

1:32:27 I got the I didn't see anything in San Francisco.

1:32:30 beautiful.

1:32:30 I had the time of my life there.

1:32:31 New York City, this is a perfect I hit this hit Grand Central Station.

1:32:37 Who's running this city nowadays?

1:32:38 I haven't really paid attention.

1:32:41 Schrager.

1:32:40 Who?

1:32:41 Schrager is running this city.

1:32:42 Oh, he is.

1:32:42 Oh, okay.

1:32:43 Peter Schrager is running this city.

1:32:44 I can see that.

1:32:45 Oscar Carbone last night.

1:32:47 Wow.

1:32:48 You could have came through with Peter I think

1:32:49 with the way we kind of got his but the Jets, let's talk about it.

1:32:52 Yeah.

1:32:53 Jets a lot of New Yorkers are big time Jets fans, right?

1:32:54 I think we're in the city of Jets fans around here.

1:32:57 Them not having leaks I think is the biggest

1:32:59 indicator that their culture might not be as.

1:33:01 Like that is that is a real deal I think.

1:33:03 At number two overall,

1:33:05 all that takes is one person in the building not to be on the same page.

1:33:08 Aaron Glenn, maybe GM, whoever says, "Hey,

1:33:10 we're not telling anybody anything here."

1:33:12 And it didn't get out of their building.

1:33:14 Sports books had no idea.

1:33:15 We had no idea.

1:33:16 When it got to number two, we had no clue what was going to happen.

1:33:19 We thought maybe we had some guesses, but nobody knew for sure.

1:33:22 For me that felt very not Jetsy.

1:33:24 Yeah.

1:33:25 Like that that just didn't feel to me at all.

1:33:27 So I was very impressed by that.

1:33:29 But didn't you say I mean overall the entire weekend in Pittsburgh,

1:33:32 by the way, that was great.

1:33:33 You and I haven't had a chance to to talk about that.

1:33:36 All the guys were there.

1:33:36 That was fun on Wednesday night.

1:33:39 Football Town.

1:33:39 Shout out to Carnegie Science Center.

1:33:41 Unbelievable.

1:33:41 Is that out now?

1:33:42 Uh I think it's still at Carnegie Science Center.

1:33:44 I believe they're releasing it digitally.

1:33:46 that if you're just a football fan, you you got to watch that.

1:33:48 But just the overall weekend

1:33:50 you for coming to that.

1:33:50 Oh, yeah, of course.

1:33:51 And I thought overall was just a blast, but when you when the dust settled,

1:33:55 I just thought the Jets did a pretty good job, you know, overall.

1:33:59 You're dripping sweat.

1:34:00 Turn your head sideways.

1:34:02 Should I Should I go here?

1:34:03 This guy's dripping.

1:34:04 That's good.

1:34:05 You're efficient.

1:34:06 That has nothing to do with it.

1:34:06 Means you're hydrated.

1:34:07 You want to go on a nice walk through the city and it

1:34:08 turns out being a lot hotter than you thought it would be.

1:34:11 It's also like 30 blocks.

1:34:13 Yeah, that's a long way,

1:34:14 but Peter needs to get I like that you're holding the whiffle ball bat.

1:34:16 Maybe go ahead and swing a little bit there with Thunder Ball AJ.

1:34:19 Um the thing is AJ running point, right?

1:34:22 Yeah, AJ's back there in the Thunderdome.

1:34:23 He's going to be playing Thunder Ball, too.

1:34:24 It does appear he's getting lubed up right now.

1:34:26 No, we're not going to let him.

1:34:27 He would definitely break something.

1:34:28 Yeah, without a doubt.

1:34:29 Yeah, well, I mean, there's potential for a fight,

1:34:31 too, if you peg him in the wrong place.

1:34:33 You know, Thunder Ball can get a bit aggressive.

1:34:35 Who's the best at Thunder Ball?

1:34:37 Best best pitcher is Ty.

1:34:39 Yeah, well, that's a given.

1:34:42 And that is actually

1:34:43 No, now it is.

1:34:43 I I You set the record straight.

1:34:59 and how long is he going to be down and out?

1:35:01 I don't know.

1:35:02 Maybe next week he's back.

1:35:03 Wait no, it's kind of on him.

1:35:04 Okay.

1:35:04 Listen, you don't have to talk to HR about this.

1:35:07 Okay.

1:35:08 Uh well, I would like to let it be known that no pressure.

1:35:12 Hey, paternity leave, you do whatever you need to do whenever you need to do.

1:35:32 Yeah, I heard exactly, AJ.

1:35:34 Okay, so you heard the same thing.

1:35:35 So, I as the person who I guess suit definitely in charge at the company,

1:35:41 these are all like real things,

1:35:42 especially as we're like, you know, everybody's having kids.

1:35:45 So, my uh So, he's officially allowed to take Whatever the he wants.

1:36:08 Is Is it each place different or is there like some mandated thing?

1:36:11 Three months, four months, six months.

1:36:13 I think there became a time where there was like a lot of like Oh,

1:36:17 I'm not you know, a lot of Oh, I'm not you know, those things start happening.

1:36:21 Oh, I'm not you know, those things.

1:36:23 Yeah.

1:36:23 And then all of a sudden they start stacking on top

1:36:24 of each other and we got a half a year.

1:36:37 Bruce is wearing a suit today.

1:36:38 He seemingly has an answer for this.

1:36:39 Yeah, what do you got?

1:36:40 Um so a lot of it was competitive where

1:36:42 like I don't know what which company it was,

1:36:44 but like Facebook says six months and then all of a sudden Google,

1:36:47 Spotify, all these other places that are competing for the people,

1:36:50 they got to go up to six months.

1:36:52 And then all of a sudden people are taking six

1:36:54 that start?

1:36:55 What do you mean?

1:36:55 Uh COVID COVID Yeah, COVID era.

1:36:58 This is for the good of families, Kirk.

1:37:00 I don't agree with that.

1:37:02 The dude The dude needs to take a a few days off and then I think I

1:37:06 took [laughter] like I think I took I think I took maybe a half a day off.

1:37:36 That That's That's a challenge when you're a first-time

1:37:44 YOU CAN'T YEAH, once the stinky poop comes

1:37:46 in, then you're then you're getting it right in.

1:37:51 Let me just Every sound is anxiety laden with like you think

1:37:56 need to get back to work.

1:37:58 All right.

1:37:58 Okay.

1:37:59 That's [laughter] ridiculous.

1:38:00 That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life.

1:38:05 Okay.

1:38:06 What else should what should we ask you?

1:38:09 MENTAL HEALTH.

1:39:08 56.

1:39:08 56.

1:39:08 What year were you born in?

1:39:09 69.

1:39:10 See, people forget that cuz you look the same exact way

1:39:12 that my eyes saw you the first time 30 years ago.

1:39:14 Yeah.

1:39:15 People forget.

1:39:15 You're Take this as no disrespect.

1:39:20 You're an older man.

1:39:21 Yeah.

1:39:22 Okay, from from Ohio.

1:39:24 Yeah, exactly.

1:39:25 And people forget that.

1:39:26 You know, Kirk will come out and say something and people

1:39:28 are like Kirk Herbstreit looks like he's like 25 years old.

1:39:31 This guy's been on TV.

1:39:32 He should not be saying what he says.

1:39:33 It's like Kirk is almost 60.

1:39:35 saying this is a new rule from from COVID.

1:39:38 Like that's when this came about.

1:39:41 I think Bruce was right.

1:39:42 How people were companies were competing for like

1:39:44 the talent to come to these companies.

1:39:46 Oh hey, you get 4 weeks vacation.

1:39:48 We get you get 9 months paternity leave.

1:39:50 down the line of all the guys there in Indianapolis.

1:39:52 [laughter] I want to find out who thinks you should take 6 months off.

1:39:56 Just go right down the line.

1:39:58 It's on you.

1:39:59 Do whatever you want to do.

1:40:00 But what do you think?

1:40:01 Take yourselves out of it.

1:40:03 Just in general with that rule.

1:40:05 Yeah, go on D But.

1:40:06 Go ahead.

1:40:07 6 months.

1:40:08 What do you got?

1:40:08 You know, like Pat said, whatever however long it takes.

1:40:11 I don't come between a man and his family.

1:40:13 No no no no no NO NO.

1:40:15 THAT IS RIGHT D BUT.

1:40:16 THANK YOU.

1:40:18 Whatever [laughter] you think.

1:40:19 One brain one sound.

1:40:20 We don't know.

1:40:21 We're not in the home.

1:40:22 We don't We're not in everybody's home.

1:40:23 We don't know how their relationship works.

1:40:25 That's right AJ.

1:40:26 He's from Ohio too.

1:40:27 That's really nice to hear.

1:40:28 This is a lot of dancing.

1:40:32 [laughter]

1:40:31 This is a lot of dancing.

1:40:33 Let's get back to ball, please.

1:40:34 Okay, we're still talking about dancing.

1:40:37 [laughter] What if you could breastfeed?

1:40:38 Once the reason why we all brought up 6 months Yeah.

1:40:42 is because we all found it to be pretty ridiculous.

1:40:45 Yeah.

1:40:45 On that note, Ty.

1:40:46 Ty, you take as much That means Ty.

1:40:50 Ty, you Pat McAfee, you're the boss.

1:40:51 You do whatever you need to do.

1:40:53 Ty.

1:40:53 Okay?

1:40:53 Whatever you need to do.

1:40:55 We appreciate

1:40:55 your dad say about 6 months?

1:40:57 [laughter] Move on.

1:41:00 Is your dad around the office there?

1:41:02 Maybe he'll be honest.

1:41:03 Connor has a question for [laughter] you.

1:41:06 Herbie, always a pleasure.

1:41:08 Hey buddy.

1:41:09 I I really want to ask you something that's going

1:41:11 to get us into another similar conversation like No, please don't.

1:41:15 I'm not going to.

1:41:16 Instead, uh let's go to LSU.

1:41:19 Uh Lane Kiffin, he actually did say something

1:41:22 that got him into some hot water a little bit,

1:41:24 but he clarified that.

1:41:24 But what should my expectation be about LSU?

1:41:28 We're talking about Ohio States and Bamas of the world,

1:41:31 and it feels like Lane Kiffin basically threw him into that type

1:41:34 of category where it's either he wins a national championship

1:41:37 and it's exactly what he was supposed to do or they don't

1:41:40 and everybody says what the hell were you doing leaving Ole Miss.

1:41:43 What should I kind of be expecting and also

1:41:45 that was one of the games I got leaked.

1:41:47 Congrats, you're going to LSU versus Clemson week one.

1:41:50 What what is Vegas's over under?

1:41:52 Do you guys have any idea?

1:41:54 I would guess I would guess 10 and a half.

1:41:56 I know they're probably 10 and a half is they're

1:41:58 probably over under if I had to take a guess.

1:42:00 They're third in the SEC directly right behind Texas and Georgia.

1:42:05 High expectations.

1:42:06 Conor Conor, I think the sky is the limit with Lane Kiffin.

1:42:10 I know that there I know he is a polarizing figure.

1:42:13 I know a lot of people like to talk about you know stuff he says whether it's

1:42:16 what he what he you know he sends out on on X or stuff he might say,

1:42:22 but I'm just telling you he's going to bring in my I I think

1:42:25 he's going to bring an energy when

1:42:28 you when you're around LSU when they're rolling,

1:42:31 it's different than any other program in the country.

1:42:34 There there is a it's not a swagger,

1:42:36 it's just a when they recruit the state of Louisiana,

1:42:40 there's such pride in that state when it comes to how good they are at football

1:42:45 that if you recruit the right guys and it's not just you know talking trash,

1:42:50 but it's actually when they were rolling, the good teams,

1:42:53 I think he's going to plug into that.

1:42:55 I don't know how soon.

1:42:56 Sam Levitt is going to be a lot to do

1:42:58 with this the transfer quarterback from from Arizona State.

1:43:02 If he can hit hit the ground running, you mentioned they got Clemson early,

1:43:06 they go to Ole Miss week three, that's going to be incredible.

1:43:11 But I I would take the over personally on LSU

1:43:16 with with Lane Kiffin and this is just the beginning.

1:43:18 This is kind of year one and I I just I think it's I think it's a good fit.

1:43:23 Just like he was a good fit at Ole Miss.

1:43:24 I think wherever he goes, he's going to win.

1:43:27 Yeah, he's football mind.

1:43:28 I think we all understand that.

1:43:30 Got a great D-coordinator.

1:43:31 Especially with five stars too he's able to get just in because he's at LSU.

1:43:34 I think that has been a big topic of the conversation.

1:43:37 They're 10 and 1/2 point favorites against Clemson week one,

1:43:39 which they will be hosting Oh, 10 and 1/2?

1:43:41 College GameDay will be there.

1:43:42 That's spectacular to get back down there.

1:43:44 They are currently sitting at plus 1,600 to win the Natty, okay?

1:43:48 Ohio State plus 650, [snorts] Notre Dame plus 700, Indiana plus 750.

1:43:53 Well, look at Indiana, will you?

1:43:54 Signetti, I think the I think people have faith in Signetti.

1:43:57 I think people have faith in Signetti.

1:43:58 Miami's their fourth choice.

1:44:01 Plus 1,500.

1:44:02 So, the the talk about Signetti, okay?

1:44:06 I think we all just trust him now

1:44:08 and the sports books trust that he's a good talent evaluator.

1:44:11 Like, hey, he'll be able to figure out the right talent to be in a system.

1:44:13 I don't know if he if he just wins again this year, that'd be crazy.

1:44:19 When when you say wins again,

1:44:19 you mean has a has another eight, nine, 10 win season?

1:44:23 they're definitely going to win.

1:44:24 Oh, yeah.

1:44:24 Are you talking about winning it all?

1:44:26 Yeah.

1:44:26 Oh, you're talking back-to-back.

1:44:28 go on a long ass run, that would be crazy.

1:44:30 I think it would be.

1:44:31 I think this is another reload year to get every I think they have a good year.

1:44:34 I think they win, but then I think they have another batch of guys

1:44:37 that are seasoned tough and another NIL one

1:44:39 and then they go and run another year.

1:44:40 I I I think that's how I view the Indiana Hoosiers, but I might be wrong.

1:44:44 But yeah, I think they're going to win.

1:44:45 I think Signetti wins.

1:44:46 Google him.

1:44:46 I mean, he's he's the guy that said it.

1:44:48 He's had and he's got Shanahan on the offensive coordinator.

1:44:51 Haynes is defensive coordinator.

1:44:53 He's got enough back of the nucleus of that championship team.

1:44:57 He loses some high-profile guys,

1:44:59 but a lot of those those hardcore guys are back.

1:45:02 Um and he's really good, you know, at finding guys that have started for two

1:45:06 or three years at other schools and bringing them in.

1:45:09 I'm I don't know if they're going to win it all again,

1:45:10 but they're going to definitely be in the mix.

1:45:12 I think Miami might be the team to win it all this year.

1:45:16 I I I think Miami we have

1:45:18 people think Mertz is an upgrade over Carson

1:45:20 Beck and he Mertz Carson Beck looked good.

1:45:24 Yeah.

1:45:24 Did you see him in Arizona?

1:45:25 And they got the back.

1:45:27 The running back's back.

1:45:28 Tony's back.

1:45:28 I mean, they're they're they're going to be loaded this year.

1:45:30 Malachi was training in uh I saw him with JSN.

1:45:33 Yeah, with like a a sailboat jean thing that he was wearing on his pants.

1:45:39 Parachute jeans?

1:45:39 Parachute pants.

1:45:40 It was unbelievable.

1:45:41 He was trying to be fast and it was complete opposite of that.

1:45:44 Try to He almost wore like a a back

1:45:46 a backpack while he was running on his pants.

1:45:49 He looked so fast.

1:45:50 Run running back, gigantic, 6'4.

1:45:52 Oh my god.

1:45:53 Fletcher?

1:45:53 Mark Fletcher?

1:45:55 Yeah.

1:45:56 He's awesome.

1:45:56 He took over those games late playoffs.

1:45:58 That was a good

1:45:58 We we had to They told us to pick a team to It's What are we in April?

1:46:02 May?

1:46:02 Who Who are you picking for the Uh well I picked Miami.

1:46:05 But, that doesn't mean we're we're being we're hoping held to it.

1:46:09 This is for the Disney upfront.

1:46:10 We're doing a final pick.

1:46:12 We're picking a national champion.

1:46:13 Subject to change by all means.

1:46:16 There's no one else in the ACC.

1:46:17 There's no one else in the ACC.

1:46:18 Oh wait.

1:46:18 I'm not giving it away.

1:46:19 Oh wait.

1:46:20 I'm not giving it away.

1:46:21 You'll find out in real time, Herbstreit, in front of all the suits.

1:48:08 I'm not going to go out there and start talking as if I

1:48:10 Like Mark Cuban?

1:48:12 Okay.

1:48:15 [laughter]

1:48:13 Okay.

1:48:13 Now, I will say interesting.

1:48:17 Down in Bloomington, the Indiana run last year there was a lot

1:48:20 of chatter about like Mark Cuban has funded this team.

1:48:23 Mark Cuban has funded this team.

1:48:24 Doesn't sound like it.

1:48:25 And then Mark Cuban came out and didn't say that he did though.

1:48:28 Like during the run, he did not say it.

1:48:30 He did He did not act like I don't think he was trying

1:48:32 He certainly did contribute late mill million

1:48:37 to couple million He has done that.

1:48:38 Like he has contributed, but I think there was a narrative because we get

1:48:41 the big donors name at all these other schools Right.

1:48:44 Who's Indiana's guy?

1:48:45 Mark Cuban's Indiana guy.

1:48:46 So, he's definitely guy.

1:48:47 I think they got a lot of people Sounds like it.

1:48:49 They got a lot of people in Bloomington

1:48:50 that have companies where there's logistics company, plastic company,

1:48:53 medical companies, all that type of So, they got a lot of people going in there.

1:48:56 So, when Mark Cuban says, "Hey,

1:48:58 what in that interview?" I think what he was trying to say is like,

1:49:01 "If you need any extra from this thing,

1:49:03 I can help get the whole thing done." But obviously it

1:49:04 takes on a life of its own the way he said it.

1:49:06 Yes.

1:49:06 If he did it, then I don't think I think Indiana has a good NIL.

1:49:10 Strong NIL.

1:49:11 but what's great is they're not spending Everyone's like,

1:49:13 "Who's spending the most?

1:49:14 They're going to win." No.

1:49:15 They're not doing this.

1:49:16 Sig, talent evaluator.

1:49:17 That's the most That's the most important part is evaluation of talent.

1:49:20 No question.

1:49:21 miss on people that you bring the culture.

1:49:23 When the Michigan State guy comes out,

1:49:24 he's like, "What are you doing wearing gold shoes?

1:49:26 We don't do that here.

1:49:27 Get your ass back inside and come back out with the issue the team issues you."

1:49:30 D-But Nick Saban said if you spend money on the wrong guys Yeah.

1:49:34 out of luck.

1:49:35 And that's a real thing.

1:49:36 And I think that's been Sig's superpower over there in Indiana.

1:49:39 Yeah, not not like you guys just said, not just the money but the evaluation.

1:49:43 He's been the best in the business in that That run last year,

1:49:46 like that's some of the best that we've seen in sports,

1:49:48 like regardless of the sport on any level,

1:49:51 like getting this team to to the heights that they've gotten to.

1:49:54 So yeah, they will keep winning as long as Sig is

1:49:56 there running the show and evaluating and get the right core

1:49:59 group of guys that want to come in here and actually

1:50:00 build a team and build that culture week in and week out.

1:50:04 So yeah, the odds are always high on those guys.

1:50:07 D-But you know what was interesting and nobody

1:50:09 can appreciate this more than you and A.J.,

1:50:10 but just the efficiency of the way they played.

1:50:15 Like you'd have to go back and watch every

1:50:18 game to try to find mental errors or busts,

1:50:22 you know, on the back end or just They just were in sync.

1:50:25 They Everybody communicated.

1:50:28 It just It was a well-oiled machine.

1:50:30 Very rarely do you ever see them beat themselves.

1:50:33 Like one time Yeah.

1:50:34 last year.

1:50:35 The closest I saw to it Go ahead and D-But The closest I saw to it

1:50:38 at least being boots on the ground is

1:50:39 that that Michigan team we watched with with J.J.

1:50:43 McCarthy.

1:50:43 They went on to win Yeah.

1:50:45 seeing their whole operation offensively and defensively,

1:50:48 how they came out of the huddle, their shifts, their motions.

1:50:50 And then defensively I think Minter was running the show at the time.

1:50:53 They disguised his pre-snaps.

1:50:54 You saw the same things with the Indiana team

1:50:57 as far as how they were all on the same page.

1:50:59 Def- Like you could just watch a team and tell how they practice.

1:51:02 You could tell how they meet.

1:51:03 You could tell how they get along and how they communicate.

1:51:05 Like they don't have to say anything.

1:51:06 You could just watch it.

1:51:07 So those were the close closest teams I would say side by side.

1:51:11 But yeah, it's it's unbelievable the job that they've been able to do.

1:51:14 That's why I think it would take a year.

1:51:17 I think it's going to take a year to get back to what they were on the defense.

1:51:19 Obviously, Fernando Mendoza Heisman winner, okay?

1:51:22 Had an incredible season, number one overall pick, we believe in him.

1:51:24 You believe in him in the NFL?

1:51:25 Absolutely.

1:51:26 Me, too.

1:51:26 Yep.

1:51:27 I do believe in him.

1:51:28 And I got to stick by that.

1:51:29 You You know why you believe in him?

1:51:31 Because he's going to beat you with his mind.

1:51:34 There aren't a whole lot of guys that that know the game

1:51:38 and understand the game to be able to see pre-snap movement in the NFL,

1:51:41 the complexities of half the half the the defense is playing this coverage,

1:51:46 the other half is playing this.

1:51:47 He's Now, he may need some time.

1:51:49 I mean, Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning,

1:51:50 everybody needs time to adjust to the speed of the game,

1:51:53 but he is going to be a game manager, he's going to be a distributor,

1:51:57 and his X factor is he moves better than I

1:51:59 think a lot of people want to give him credit.

1:52:02 Big.

1:52:02 Yeah, big dude.

1:52:03 Every ball is a tight spiral.

1:52:05 We watched him throw during TV timeouts.

1:52:07 We watched him throw during games.

1:52:09 We watched him throw on the sideline with his brother.

1:52:11 We watched him almost take Signetti's head off whenever he was warming up.

1:52:14 Every ball is a dart.

1:52:16 Every single one.

1:52:16 The RPO offense that everybody was kind

1:52:18 of judging him on, I think that's modern football.

1:52:20 And I think the people that think he won't

1:52:22 be able to figure out defenses just have never e- No.

1:52:24 Brilliant.

1:52:25 This guy's like actually brilliant.

1:52:26 And And he he makes if he ends up hitting it,

1:52:30 he makes everybody like D-Bup would like it.

1:52:33 Like, you know what I'm saying?

1:52:33 Like, the corners like him.

1:52:34 The safeties, they like everybody.

1:52:36 Right.

1:52:37 He's a nerd.

1:52:37 But he's a lovable ball.

1:52:38 He's a lovable nerd.

1:52:40 Exactly.

1:52:40 You know what I mean?

1:52:40 When it comes to morale, when it comes to the team morale.

1:52:43 Beers with the lads.

1:52:44 Yeah, absolutely.

1:52:45 Just like Kirk, not Herbstreit Cousins, very similar kind of vibes.

1:52:50 Yeah, same kind of And that's why they're such a great

1:52:52 fit to have him in that that room with him.

1:52:54 And Signetti, similar vibes as Fernando.

1:52:58 You know, they like I think those two were a good match together.

1:53:01 I think those two I think Kirk and Fernando could Perfect.

1:53:05 I think Fernando and Tom could,

1:53:06 if Tom was invested in it become a very good Yep.

1:53:09 I think he's going to have success.

1:53:11 When you guys think he starts?

1:53:13 I don't When's their bye?

1:53:15 Do we don't know.

1:53:16 We'll find out Thursday.

1:53:17 You don't think week one Kirk?

1:53:18 Kirk?

1:53:19 I don't.

1:53:20 Not with Cousins there.

1:53:22 Why would they bring him in?

1:53:23 I agree.

1:53:23 I agree with you but some people think that that Kirk might not start at all.

1:53:26 It might be week one.

1:53:28 Yeah.

1:53:28 Debo.

1:53:29 Debo wow.

1:53:29 Week one Debo?

1:53:30 You think Nando week one over there?

1:53:32 I think it's going to be hard to to keep him off the field.

1:53:35 Now the biggest we talk about X-factors

1:53:37 I think the biggest X-factor for him going

1:53:39 from his style in college to the pros is

1:53:42 especially in Koob's system is being under the center.

1:53:44 You know, operating under center and then hitting

1:53:46 those kind of we saw Sam Darnold do a ton.

1:53:48 That play action and hitting guys across the middle and strong

1:53:51 that that's a big it's a big change but if

1:53:53 he's picking it up in in practice and in OTAs

1:53:56 and mini camp and he obviously we've been around him.

1:53:58 He's going to be locked in.

1:54:00 He's going to be the first guy in, last guy out.

1:54:02 He's going to do all the right things.

1:54:03 You talk about him physically, you know,

1:54:05 being able to move around and get himself out of some If they

1:54:08 have trust in the offensive line and you got the guy that they spent

1:54:11 a ton of Linderbaum and they took spent a bunch of money on he'll

1:54:13 be able to call it and get things lined up and sorted out up front.

1:54:17 I think if all those things if he checks those boxes it's going

1:54:19 to be hard to not try him out there week one but we'll see.

1:54:22 And Debo just for fans out there when you go from a gun

1:54:25 to more under center and Caleb Williams

1:54:27 is dealing this with this now in Chicago.

1:54:29 It's not just obviously you can go under center and take a snap.

1:54:33 It's being able to get in the hole, right?

1:54:36 It's being able to call the plays and which

1:54:39 are much longer in the NFL and then the timing

1:54:41 and the rhythm when you're under center is very very different

1:54:45 than what you do when you're you know, in the gun.

1:54:48 And you turn your back to the defense.

1:54:49 Turn your back.

1:54:50 That is the that is the biggest one cuz

1:54:52 when you're quarterbacking you see everything in the shotgun.

1:54:54 College guys always up here cuz they're reading.

1:54:56 They're looking at this.

1:54:57 Since high school.

1:54:57 When you get under center you're at some

1:54:59 point you're going to have to do this one.

1:55:00 Yep.

1:55:01 And then you're going to have to rewind it, and that's when panic can set in.

1:55:04 N' D' O's not going to have a clue how to panic.

1:55:06 He's He's not [laughter] even going to know what that is.

1:55:08 He's just going to go ahead and move.

1:55:09 Not that Ty Simpson's not going to be incredibly successful.

1:55:11 Now, before we get out of here on ESPN,

1:55:13 we got to rattle off the other headlines of the day.

1:55:16 Peter Herbstreit crushing the off-season, I think that needs to be noted.

1:55:19 Uh Sean Payton on Bo Nix, he'll be well ahead of time for training camp.

1:55:22 I think there's a good chance we see him in this off-season program in June.

1:55:26 Connor, what do you think he's saying over there quickly about Bo Nix?

1:55:29 Feels like he's healing well.

1:55:30 Yeah, I've healing well.

1:55:31 All is going as scheduled.

1:55:33 We probably weren't privy to the information of him getting another surgery,

1:55:36 but feels like everything is just right.

1:55:38 Yeah, anytime they announce another surgery, there's time for panic, but boy,

1:55:42 what a nice little situation that was for the Patriots going

1:55:45 into the AFC Championship where Bo Nix breaks [laughter] his leg with what?

1:55:49 Just like a minute left in the fourth quarter,

1:55:50 we don't know until way afterwards.

1:55:53 Can't even really celebrate a massive playoff win

1:55:55 because you know your quarterback's breaking his leg.

1:55:57 That was a sad ending to a season.

1:55:59 I'm excited Yeah.

1:56:00 to see them get back on Excited.

1:56:01 I'm with you on that.

1:56:01 They are Think of that division,

1:56:03 how much fun that division's going to be this year.

1:56:05 Um let's see here.

1:56:07 Patriots rookie first-rounder O tackle,

1:56:09 uh Caleb Lomu only practice exclusively uh at left tackle.

1:56:14 What does that mean, Connor?

1:56:16 Are you guys a little bit worried over there?

1:56:17 Uh no, that was just the backups.

1:56:19 Looked further into this.

1:56:20 This is all second-stringers, and he was the second-string left tackle.

1:56:23 Makes a lot of sense.

1:56:24 I don't know if you see what's written below that, Pat, on that sheet.

1:56:27 That's the bigger news.

1:56:28 Uh Kyle Williams, wide receiver who's a rookie,

1:56:31 he switched his number from 18 to eight last week.

1:56:34 This week switches from 18 back to eight.

1:56:36 Ste- Stefon Diggs is coming home, baby.

1:56:39 Ladies and gentlemen, WE'RE COMING TO YOU LIVE [laughter] FROM THE NFL OFFICES.

1:56:44 We don't have glad you're here.

1:56:45 Hey, thank you so much for having us.

1:56:47 How are you, man?

1:56:48 Good to see you.

1:56:48 What an incredible thing you have here.

1:56:50 This is Peter Herbstreit.

1:56:50 Here he is.

1:56:51 He's got to meet Peter, obviously.

1:56:52 Yeah, he is.

1:56:53 Yeah.

1:56:53 Peter's big in our house.

1:56:55 Yeah.

1:56:54 is phenomenal.

1:56:55 I want to let you know, thank you for the hospitality.

1:56:57 Also, getting a chance to talk to Mr.

1:56:58 Butter through everything.

1:57:00 Feels like you guys are really on top of it,

1:57:01 embracing the future while also trying to have a great game.

1:57:04 I I respect and the appreciation of the game that you have.

1:57:07 And everybody here that works for it.

1:57:09 to come in here and see this on a Wait, can you talk into this so people

1:57:12 You got to come in here and see it on a Sunday cuz all of this is lit up.

1:57:15 All this is your Yeah.

1:57:19 Okay, so and I heard this You're in the You're in the the the bunker.

1:57:23 Yeah, Mr.

1:57:24 Butter, this is ask him now.

1:57:25 He said he's a pacer, he's a mover.

1:57:27 Uh the schedule being made right now currently, right?

1:57:29 That's still happening or are we done?

1:57:30 Just approved it an hour ago.

1:57:32 Hey!

1:57:34 [applause and cheering] That's big news.

1:57:36 Love that.

1:57:37 All right, well, congratulations.

1:57:38 Thank you.

1:57:38 Thank you for having me here.

1:57:39 Come back.

1:57:40 Come back again.

1:57:40 You got it.

1:57:41 And tell me before I looked up on my TV and there you are down [laughter]

1:57:46 Who's opening night?

1:57:47 as we send you to SportsCenter here on this glorious Tuesday.

1:57:51 The commish has obviously welcomed us into the Art McNally Game Day Central.

1:57:55 We're lucky to be here.

1:57:55 Sports are the greatest.

1:57:56 More playoffs tonight.

1:57:57 We'll see you tomorrow.

1:57:58 That's Kirk Herbstreit, Peter Herbstreit.

1:57:59 Goodbye.

1:58:01 We're still live, Herbie.

1:58:01 We're still live.

1:58:04 [laughter] Who's opening night, Rog?

1:58:05 Hey Rog, who's opening night, Roger?

1:58:07 Hey Hey who uh How many Colts prime time games are there?

1:58:10 We'll see you over [laughter] there.

1:58:10 He's not telling us.

1:58:11 We'll see you over there.

1:58:12 Can't wait.

1:58:12 Oh, you know?

1:58:14 To Dabo's question.

1:58:15 Patsy Hogs opening night Super Bowl rematch.

1:58:17 No Colts prime time?

1:58:19 What?

1:58:20 Danny doesn't I don't know.

1:58:21 Did they have any What you say, Dabo?

1:58:22 I want to know how many times we're on prime time.

1:58:24 a rumor AR might be back in the mix.

1:58:25 Yeah, some say goose egg.

1:58:27 I don't know why.

1:58:28 That can't be true.

1:58:28 Not Not with Danny Dimes.

1:58:30 There's a lot of things being said right now over

1:58:31 there and I don't know what's real and what isn't real.

1:58:33 So, if you guys could clarify some things.

1:58:35 AR's back in the mix, is that Anthony For number two.

1:58:38 Yeah, for number two.

1:58:40 I did see a report.

1:58:41 I like to hear that.

1:58:42 Okay, I like that AR NFL career is still continuing for Anthony Richardson.

1:58:46 I love that.

1:58:47 Okay, another year of an injury being disappointment

1:58:50 uh himself and I think for his development.

1:58:53 He could be number two.

1:58:53 Riley Leonard looked really good.

1:58:55 He did.

1:58:56 Really?

1:58:56 Last year Riley Leonard looked really good.

1:58:58 Texans.

1:58:58 See, is he locked in there?

1:59:00 No.

1:59:01 Sounds like it's being reported Anthony Richardson might be able

1:59:03 to get number two overall spot there over Riley Leonard.

1:59:05 Daniel Jones, Riley Leonard was uh who I assumed

1:59:07 was going to be the one-two punch of the Colts.

1:59:09 Anthony Richardson asked for a trade, no trade comes to be,

1:59:12 back on the field getting to work.

1:59:14 Why not try to regain a spot here?

1:59:15 I like I like that out of him.

1:59:17 It's always good to have competition.

1:59:19 They did.

1:59:20 Did you [clears throat] know Daniel Jones uh

1:59:24 had a broken leg and a torn Achilles?

1:59:25 Did you know Alec Pierce signed the biggest deal of all time?

1:59:28 Had a surgery doing his thing.

1:59:30 Do you know the Colts are going to win a Super Bowl this year?

1:59:33 Did you know that?

1:59:34 West Virginia's going to win the natty

1:59:36 and the Colts are going to win the Super Bowl.

1:59:37 I'm not on the record saying the Colts are going to win the natty.

1:59:40 Yeah, play play that part.

1:59:41 Yeah, I love that.

1:59:42 THAT'S GOOD VALUE.

1:59:43 NO, I DO THROW THE Reds in there as the World Series champs.

1:59:46 We got a We got a huge one.

1:59:48 How many you guys win?

1:59:49 We got two wins.

1:59:49 We got I don't know.

1:59:50 I don't even I don't I don't even know.

1:59:51 We're on a two-game win streak, but Two-game win streak, Kirk.

1:59:54 We're okay.

1:59:55 I don't know.

1:59:55 When?

1:59:56 Yeah.

1:59:56 Last two.

2:00:00 [laughter and gasps] Problem is the problem is you have to Turns out you

2:00:03 have to be able to hit the baseball consistently to win.

2:00:07 Got to score.

2:00:07 Got to score runs.

2:00:08 That's part of baseball I've learned.

2:00:09 I'm I'm new to baseball.

2:00:10 But yeah, you got to You got to the the wood

2:00:13 bat has got to make contact in that.

2:00:16 Pitching's pretty important, too.

2:00:18 Need good woods.

2:00:18 Pitching's got a chance, but it's just we can't we can't figure that thing out.

2:00:22 Why don't you get out there for the Reds?

2:00:24 Maybe glory days.

2:00:25 Glory days.

2:00:26 No, I'm just a fan.

2:00:27 Suffers.

2:00:30 Glory days.

2:00:32 Uh West Virginia I love that AJ knew that we won two in a row.

2:00:36 He's figured that's fair.

2:00:37 He takes it on the shins because

2:00:38 the Pittsburgh Pirates obviously unbelievable this year.

2:00:41 So, we understand that.

2:00:43 Um this is a plus 5 million 286,500 odds.

2:00:50 Oh my.

2:00:51 West Virginia to win the national championship and

2:00:54 Just think if we played that and it hit.

2:00:56 I am going Might as well throw We have to.

2:00:58 Might as well throw Blocky in there, too, if we're just making up fake stuff.

2:01:01 Yeah, put Blocky in there.

2:01:02 sure about Blocky.

2:01:04 Throw the Buckos in there.

2:01:06 Good idea.

2:01:07 Throw the Buckos in there.

2:01:08 Top 10 record in baseball.

2:01:10 I know.

2:01:11 Are we the leaders of the central?

2:01:12 Are we the leaders Are we the leaders of the central?

2:01:13 No, but I got a lot more confidence in you guys.

2:01:16 Than the Cubs?

2:01:17 Than the Reds.

2:01:17 Are the Reds in the lead in the central?

2:01:19 No, they're they're at the after losing 10 in a row,

2:01:21 I think the Cubs are number one in the NL Central.

2:01:22 Cubs are the team to beat.

2:01:24 And then the Buckos?

2:01:26 PCA say the Buckos are up there.

2:01:27 We love PCA.

2:01:28 The man.

2:01:30 P.

2:01:30 Carroll Amstrom.

2:01:30 It is It is game's day today.

2:01:32 Game's day?

2:01:34 Yeah, they're they're minus 350,

2:01:36 so I don't know how you're going to just stay away from that one, probably.

2:01:38 All right, a man got here looking incredibly dressed.

2:01:41 Herbie, we'll see you in like 10, 15 minutes.

2:01:43 Are you going to walk back with us?

2:01:44 I'm just walking.

2:01:45 Yeah.

2:01:45 We got to do We got to do hockey right now.

2:01:47 Oh, you are?

2:01:47 Yeah, we have to do hockey now.

2:01:49 Okay.

2:01:49 Especially you could feel this man's presence, right?

2:01:52 When he walked in, you could feel it.

2:01:53 Yeah.

2:01:53 Yeah.

2:01:54 I'm going Carolina against Colorado.

2:01:57 Oh.

2:01:58 What?

2:01:58 in the Stanley Cup.

2:02:00 I don't know, Liam.

2:02:00 Connor just mockingly said what?

2:02:02 What?

2:02:04 [laughter] Uh That's who I got.

2:02:05 That's who I'm going with.

2:02:06 I Montreal You know puck.

2:02:08 You could pull with it You could say Montreal,

2:02:10 but no one's going to beat Colorado.

2:02:11 Just give it to them right now.

2:02:13 Okay, so Colorado has lost a game, though.

2:02:14 So Minnesota, obviously, has beaten Colorado one time.

2:02:19 Carolina is back-to-back sweeps, 4-0, 4-0.

2:02:24 Colorado, sweep.

2:02:25 How great is playoff hockey?

2:02:27 Oh.

2:02:28 The best.

2:02:29 The best.

2:02:30 Guy ate a It It ate a ate a puck to the nose last Yeah.

2:02:33 Then came back and scored later.

2:02:34 Of course.

2:02:34 Best player, too.

2:02:36 It's unbelievable.

2:02:37 The energy.

2:02:38 going to do some hockey.

2:02:38 Don't leave us.

2:02:40 Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now, friend of the program,

2:02:42 a guy who played 13 years in the NHL.

2:02:46 Kirk Sweaty from the moment he got here.

2:02:49 Wow.

2:02:50 [laughter] I was impressed.

2:02:50 And so now see it.

2:02:51 the moment he's walking out.

2:02:53 I I I don't know I'm a sauna guy in the morning.

2:02:56 Are you a sauna guy in the morning?

2:02:57 I am.

2:02:59 He was sweating like, you know,

2:03:00 when you take a shower quick and you rush out the door.

2:03:02 He was sweating.

2:03:03 Yeah, shower didn't take.

2:03:04 Yeah.

2:03:04 Yeah, shower sweat.

2:03:05 That did feel like a shower sweat there.

2:03:07 He's dripping, this guy.

2:03:09 Come on, man.

2:03:09 It's a long walk.

2:03:10 Are we waiting on We waiting I don't know

2:03:11 if he's been carrying that towel and jogging water.

2:03:14 for like 15 minutes.

2:03:14 We're going to do a hockey talk right now with an incredible conversator.

2:03:17 Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now, 13-year NHL vet,

2:03:20 man who calls New York home now,

2:03:22 just gave $10 million to a Montreal Children's Hospital.

2:03:27 Incredibly fly, P.K.

2:03:28 Subban.

2:03:32 What a pleasure.

2:03:32 Wow.

2:03:33 Clean.

2:03:34 What a pleasure.

2:03:35 What a beauty.

2:03:36 Wow.

2:03:36 What a beauty.

2:03:37 LET'S GO.

2:03:40 [laughter] PINSTRIPES.

2:03:42 PINSTRIPES.

2:03:43 CLEAN.

2:03:44 HEY, I HAD TO.

2:03:46 When I was coming in, I had to.

2:03:47 I had to look the part today.

2:03:49 Okay, so this is not one of the costumes

2:03:50 you would wear on Super Duper Hockey Night on ESPN,

2:03:53 but this is one that you would wear whenever you have to look fly.

2:03:55 Well, I have to be a professional.

2:03:57 Today is a professional day.

2:03:58 You're incredible, obviously, at what you do.

2:04:01 Do you You live in New York full-time?

2:04:03 Yes, I'm in New York now full-time.

2:04:04 Okay, are you in this area of town?

2:04:06 No, I'm Soho.

2:04:07 So, I'm I'm one of those single guys.

2:04:10 Yeah.

2:04:12 One of those single guys, just living the dream, you know, down in Soho.

2:04:15 So, I'm loving it.

2:04:16 You ever been to Carbone's easy's club?

2:04:19 You know what?

2:04:20 I have not been to Is it Casp- Cipriani's on the water?

2:04:24 Is that what you talking about, Carbone?

2:04:25 Is that the same or not?

2:04:26 Uh, sounds like you don't know what you're talking about.

2:04:28 No, I'm an Emilio's guy.

2:04:29 Emilio Ballato's.

2:04:30 That's It's a staple for me.

2:04:33 Are you friends with Emilio?

2:04:34 Yeah, I am.

2:04:35 I am friends with him.

2:04:36 Actually, yeah, really close.

2:04:37 That makes sense.

2:04:38 One of the first people I met in the city when I came.

2:04:41 Just a real guy from the city.

2:04:44 And I don't know, whenever I go to a new city,

2:04:46 I don't want to meet people that moved there.

2:04:47 I want to meet people that are actually from there,

2:04:49 that know the city, that can tell me where to actually go.

2:04:52 Absolutely.

2:04:52 And they're cycling and not tourists and stuff.

2:04:54 So, a shout out to Emilio.

2:04:56 Yeah, shout out to Emilio, man.

2:04:57 Everybody that's friends with you is very happy that they're friends with you.

2:05:00 That that is what I've learned for over

2:05:01 the last 24 hours being here in New York.

2:05:03 I've learned of this Emilio man multiple times.

2:05:06 Everybody that's friends with Emilio says,

2:05:08 "I'm friends with Emilio." And it's like a big holy Yeah.

2:05:12 That's how everybody views this?

2:05:13 He's the guy cuz he's just cool.

2:05:14 He's the coolest.

2:05:15 He's he's a good dude.

2:05:16 He's rooted in the city, but he's just down to earth.

2:05:19 He's going to treat you like everybody else.

2:05:20 So, that's why I think people love to go there.

2:05:22 Yeah.

2:05:22 I like the local stuff.

2:05:23 That's why I went to Starbucks this morning.

2:05:25 You went to Star- Okay, I still go to Starbucks.

2:05:27 I'm not going to the local coffee shop in New York.

2:05:29 I'll go to a Starbucks.

2:05:30 I felt a little bit like an though.

2:05:32 Did you?

2:05:33 Yeah, we walked by 14 cafes.

2:05:35 Yeah, I knew that.

2:05:35 I knew that.

2:05:36 You walked by all 14 to pay like $35 for what?

2:05:40 Yeah, hot water and a couple espresso shots.

2:05:42 Called it.

2:05:42 Yeah, I'm not chirping Starbucks by any means.

2:05:44 Like I love Starbucks.

2:05:45 it.

2:05:45 Yeah, we certainly drank it,

2:05:46 but I felt like a little bit of an walking by Jackson,

2:05:48 Diane's, and Lucy's, and and you know, the other one.

2:05:52 Lucy's?

2:05:53 I think it was a cafe I walked by or a Oh, okay.

2:05:55 Super hipsters.

2:05:56 Sweet looking people in there.

2:05:57 What do they have?

2:05:58 Cool glass coffee.

2:05:59 I say, "Excuse me, I got to get Starbucks." Felt like an Okay.

2:06:02 Well, It's kind of Bruce's fault over there.

2:06:04 You see Bruce?

2:06:05 Yeah, I see Bruce.

2:06:05 Which one's Bruce?

2:06:06 Is Bruce No, Bruce right here over here.

2:06:08 Hey, what's up, Bruce?

2:06:09 What's going on?

2:06:09 What's up, dude?

2:06:10 Bruce, why did you take me to Starbucks instead of one of the local places?

2:06:13 I I just prefer it, to be honest with you.

2:06:15 A lot of what PK's talking about with super expensive lattes.

2:06:18 Like, it's just not really worth it.

2:06:20 We go to Starbucks, we get what we always get, we keep it moving.

2:06:22 Yeah, wait till he takes you to his favorite pizza place, Sbarro.

2:06:27 [laughter] You ever been to that?

2:06:28 You ever tried it?

2:06:29 Sbarro?

2:06:29 Sbarro?

2:06:29 No.

2:06:30 S B A R R O?

2:06:32 Is it So good it's New York original That's not like the special place.

2:06:36 That's not like the special place.

2:06:37 Not a special place.

2:06:39 Is it special?

2:06:40 I mean it's not Emilio's of course,

2:06:42 but Sbarro is very special to a lot of people.

2:06:45 Okay.

2:06:45 IT'S GENUINE NEW YORK SLICE.

2:06:47 THE STARBUCKS OF PIZZA.

2:06:49 My new my my pizza place is not even in Manhattan.

2:06:52 I got to go out to Brooklyn for this one.

2:06:53 L&B's Spumoni Gardens.

2:06:56 I got to get out there.

2:06:57 You have to get the square slice.

2:07:00 It's unbelievable.

2:07:01 So I I drive I drive out there to get it.

2:07:03 I'm in Brooklyn, Queensville.

2:07:04 You know what I mean?

2:07:05 BK in the BK.

2:07:07 Oh, I like that.

2:07:08 Oh, yeah.

2:07:08 Okay.

2:07:08 It's like the J Tatum.

2:07:11 [laughter] I know.

2:07:11 We're going to put that ONE TO BED.

2:07:13 OKAY.

2:07:14 ALL RIGHT.

2:07:14 WE'LL BRING IT WE'LL KEEP IT WE'LL KEEP IT.

2:07:15 BUT they're out of playoffs so now it's not hitting as hard,

2:07:18 you know, in my [snorts] mind, but the J J TATUM [laughter] BOOM!

2:07:26 [screaming] LET'S GO.

2:07:27 THAT'S PRETTY GOOD THOUGH.

2:07:27 DOUBLE PUMP THERE.

2:07:29 You tell me about hockey.

2:07:31 Okay.

2:07:31 The Avalanche have lost to the Minnesota Wild one time.

2:07:34 Yep.

2:07:35 Could have been a clean sweep obviously.

2:07:36 The Carolina Hurricanes were able to do that.

2:07:38 Kirk Herbstreit goes way out on a limb where the fruit

2:07:40 are and says he likes Carolina to take on Colorado.

2:07:43 Yep.

2:07:44 Is that how we should be viewing it or is there a chance that Montreal

2:07:46 Buffalo kind of sneak their way into the finals

2:07:48 that we can showcase maybe their atmospheres?

2:07:50 How about Vegas Golden Knights?

2:07:52 Nobody's talking about them.

2:07:53 Anaheim Ducks obviously got Lorax as a coach.

2:07:55 I love their team.

2:07:56 They're in a battle two-two series.

2:07:58 Feels like Colorado and Carolina have stolen

2:08:00 the conversation strictly because they've been sweeping everybody.

2:08:02 Can anybody make it right now?

2:08:04 Is that how you view this or is it really a two-horse race at this stage?

2:08:07 Anybody can make I think in the East there's still a chance.

2:08:11 You know, and I really believe it's Montreal.

2:08:14 Obviously they got to get out of this series.

2:08:15 Buffalo's going to turn it on tonight.

2:08:17 I expect a much better game from Buffalo tonight.

2:08:20 They were not good enough.

2:08:21 They didn't tilt the ice.

2:08:23 They were sitting back on their heels.

2:08:24 Other than the start of scoring 53 seconds into the game.

2:08:28 That was their best shot.

2:08:30 What are you doing over here?

2:08:31 That stuff's good.

2:08:32 I know, you got a lot Don't you worry about what's going on.

2:08:34 Okay.

2:08:34 Okay, we're cleaning things up over here.

2:08:36 No, no, no, I'm just kidding.

2:08:37 So, I think that Montreal is going to come

2:08:40 I think they they might challenge Carolina, but Carolina,

2:08:44 as much as this pains me to say it, Pat,

2:08:46 I haven't picked Carolina to win a series in 4-5 years.

2:08:49 Jeez.

2:08:49 Carolina Hurricane Cane fans are loving every single moment of this right now.

2:08:54 And I do believe that this if this is going to be

2:08:56 their best chance to win a Stanley Cup since the last time they won.

2:08:59 Like this is their chance.

2:09:01 If they don't get it this year,

2:09:02 and I'm not talking about getting to the finals, they got to win it this year.

2:09:05 So, that being said, that's what Montreal or Buffalo is up against.

2:09:10 Um in the West, I agree.

2:09:11 I I think Colorado is the team coming out of the West.

2:09:14 Vegas has a chance, but they got to figure out Anaheim first.

2:09:16 Yeah, Anaheim's certainly been a little bit of a tough task there.

2:09:19 The Hurricanes become the first team to start

2:09:21 a post-season 8-0 since the Oilers in 1985.

2:09:26 Mhm.

2:09:26 Lost three games the entire playoffs en route to a title.

2:09:29 A lot of people saying they're going to win

2:09:30 a title if you have this particular stat, this particular stat.

2:09:33 The Caniacs down there in Raleigh

2:09:34 will certainly love another opportunity at that.

2:09:37 Let's turn conversation into NHL playoff hockey.

2:09:41 Do you think this has been a great display of what the game is?

2:09:44 I think it has been.

2:09:45 Ratings have been up into the right.

2:09:46 Montreal getting a chance to showcase who they are.

2:09:49 Every single environment has been fantastic.

2:09:51 Now, couple runaways, Carolina sweeps two people,

2:09:54 they're going to wait for a week, maybe get healthy.

2:09:56 Colorado could potentially do the same, but I think hockey has shown up here.

2:09:59 Do you not agree, Pierre?

2:10:00 Oh, 100% and and and regards to the sweeps, by the way,

2:10:04 we always want to have the element of the underdog upsetting a better team.

2:10:09 It's always there.

2:10:10 I've been an eight-seated team that upset at a first-place team in the playoffs.

2:10:13 It It can happen.

2:10:15 So, you know, some years it's going to happen,

2:10:17 some years it's not going to happen.

2:10:18 That's a part of it, but aside from that, you cannot tell me the quality

2:10:22 of hockey isn't at the highest that it's been ever, I think.

2:10:25 In terms of the skill, the young players, like that's the thing now.

2:10:28 The young players are coming in ready to play.

2:10:30 The NHL's not a development league.

2:10:33 I don't I'm not going to tell someone you're going to develop in this league.

2:10:35 You have to come in ready to play.

2:10:37 And you see guys like Lane Hudson that are now being considered in just

2:10:40 a couple years the some of the best of players in the league.

2:10:43 You look at Lane Hudson, Slafkovsky, all these guys.

2:10:46 Buffalo's got a few guys.

2:10:47 Anaheim's got Leo Carlsson, Troy Terry,

2:10:50 and a couple other guys Seneca that are coming.

2:10:52 So, there's a smorgasbord of young talent.

2:10:55 That's what screams the future is bright in the NHL, right?

2:10:58 Speaking of the future, the draft obviously just found its way.

2:11:01 Connor has a question for you about number one overall pick.

2:11:04 Oh.

2:11:03 Yeah, PK.

2:11:04 It feels as though, and I'm not, you know, making accusations, okay?

2:11:08 But it feels as though maybe it was rigged for Gavin

2:11:12 McKenna to go number one to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

2:11:15 The The Maple Leafs have had odds in the top 10

2:11:18 basically twice and they missed the playoffs twice in the last,

2:11:21 what, 10, 15 years, and both times they end up with that number one pick.

2:11:25 How do you feel about Gavin McKenna going number one?

2:11:28 Is that definitely a lock?

2:11:30 And do you think that the Toronto Maple Leafs,

2:11:33 I mean, we're not even going to bring up the GM.

2:11:34 You said you got a lot to say about that, but do you

2:11:36 think they hang on to kind of their core with Auston Matthews and them?

2:11:40 Or do you think this is kind of a new

2:11:42 era for Toronto as far as the Maple Leafs go?

2:11:45 Great questions.

2:11:46 First of all, this puts an immense amount of pressure.

2:11:49 If there wasn't enough pressure on Toronto already,

2:11:52 getting the first overall pick, I know I know some people are excited about it,

2:11:55 but being a new GM coming in, new management,

2:11:58 and getting that first overall pick in Toronto, like you cannot mess that up.

2:12:02 You can't that up.

2:12:04 You can't Excuse my French, but you can't mess that up.

2:12:08 If they do, you know, this is not going to be good.

2:12:12 So, the question is here.

2:12:14 Do they build around Auston Matthews and William Nylander?

2:12:17 I I'd have to say I think they're closer

2:12:20 to probably tearing this thing down and rebuilding it.

2:12:23 I you know, I don't want to say that.

2:12:24 I don't know.

2:12:25 I don't have any insight into it, but they need defense.

2:12:28 They have to retool their goaltending.

2:12:30 Like how many young prospects do they have in the system?

2:12:33 They've traded away first-round picks.

2:12:35 They have to retool.

2:12:36 Like we're building this not to compete and contend.

2:12:39 You got to win a championship, not contend for one.

2:12:42 You got to win one.

2:12:43 So, they've built contending teams that haven't even

2:12:46 been able to get out of the first round.

2:12:47 So, to me a new breath of fresh air has got to come in.

2:12:51 Whether Austin Matthews and Nylander are part of it,

2:12:53 I think that's up to them, too.

2:12:55 Whether their contracts allow them to go or not,

2:12:57 do they want to be a part of a rebuild?

2:12:59 Do you think the entire US Olympic team should just come back to America?

2:13:02 Get Hellebuyck the hell out of there.

2:13:03 Get Brady Tkachuk the hell out of there.

2:13:05 Get Austin Matthews the hell [clears throat] out of there.

2:13:07 And listen, I I I Michael Andlauer, the ownership there,

2:13:09 I know what they're doing in Ottawa and and I believe

2:13:12 that Ottawa is going to be a great place to play.

2:13:14 A lot of guys are going to want to play there

2:13:16 once all that stuff happens with the new arena, I think eventually.

2:13:19 But for Brady Tkachuk right now,

2:13:21 I would have been out of there yesterday because of just

2:13:24 of where he is in his career, where his game is.

2:13:27 Uh I believe it's just too heavy.

2:13:28 It's too much.

2:13:29 He shouldn't have that much on his shoulders to go

2:13:31 He's already the captain of the team, leads by example.

2:13:34 They put way too much heat on him.

2:13:36 And I played in Canada, I know what it's like.

2:13:38 But for him, he should be appreciated for the game that he brings every day,

2:13:42 and I think he's going to have a better

2:13:43 opportunity to go somewhere and lead and and win.

2:13:47 I think Florida.

2:13:48 I want to see him go play with Matthew in Florida.

2:13:50 Dude, he fits Listen to me.

2:13:52 He fits in with their style.

2:13:53 Right?

2:13:54 He might be a better fit for Florida than Matthew is with the way he plays.

2:13:58 I'm being honest.

2:13:58 So, now he slides in there.

2:14:00 I would like to see him in there.

2:14:04 Yeah, oh for sure.

2:14:05 They're certainly Tkachuk and Knox all over the I got a feel he'd be Oh, yeah.

2:14:09 Brady, I fought Brady.

2:14:11 You fought Brady.

2:14:11 How did it go?

2:14:11 Dude, oh my god.

2:14:13 So Do you Do you win a lot of fights or lose a lot of fights?

2:14:15 It's surprisingly so with the way my face looks,

2:14:18 I've won like more than I've lost.

2:14:20 Obviously, cuz I'm telling you I fought a couple guys

2:14:23 that I shouldn't have fought that could have gone the wrong way.

2:14:25 Like I remember one fight, Bora Wiki,

2:14:28 he could have splattered my whole face and he just happened to hit my visor.

2:14:31 Lucky time.

2:14:32 Um but [laughter] very very very very lucky.

2:14:35 But Brady, I'm in Ottawa, it's his rookie season.

2:14:39 And you know, I know Keith Tkachuk.

2:14:41 I remember meeting Brady and Matthew at at a hockey tournament when they

2:14:44 were just little kids and I uh Chris O'Sullivan's a good friend of mine.

2:14:47 Obviously, the Fitzgeralds that are tight with the Tkachuks, so I know him.

2:14:50 Legends.

2:14:50 So Brady's out there,

2:14:51 but he's got a little chip on his shoulder and I'm out there I'd been out there

2:14:54 for an extended shift and he gets in front

2:14:56 of the net and he knows I've been out there long.

2:14:58 I'm not I'm not giving him that free pass.

2:15:00 I know Keith taught him how to fight and when to pick his fights.

2:15:03 He grabbed me at the end of my shift, but it didn't matter.

2:15:06 He put his hands on me from the 18 years old, he put his hands on me.

2:15:11 I don't know if I've ever felt a guy

2:15:13 in my career that at that young have that much strength.

2:15:17 Yeah, he can't fight though.

2:15:18 the fight.

2:15:18 He's basically going like this on the top of my head.

2:15:20 Look, I'm way in over my head here.

2:15:22 Way in over my head and I'm just eating him.

2:15:25 You put up a good fight.

2:15:26 got to hang in there.

2:15:27 Seat belt, try to get your arm loose.

2:15:28 You can tell I'm tired and Brady's like, "Yep,

2:15:31 you're getting tucked in." And that's exactly what

2:15:33 he [laughter] said to me at the end.

2:15:34 Good job.

2:15:35 Body slam.

2:15:36 Yep, watch.

2:15:37 And then he tells me right after, "You got tucked in." It's okay.

2:15:40 This is probably closer to the end for you.

2:15:42 You'll probably be with Pat watching this in a couple years.

2:15:46 [laughter] And he wasn't wrong about that.

2:15:48 Wasn't wrong about that at all.

2:15:49 Yeah, he is a unit.

2:15:51 Um I got a lot of respect for him, man.
