Comparing the ideologies of Hitler, Mussolini and Mosley
TIKhistory
0:03 Quick disclaimer: I’m not a fascist, not a nazi, not a racist, not anything else.
0:08 Nor am I promoting these ideologies. The point of this video is to educate ourselves,
0:12 so we learn from history instead of repeating it. On that note, I’ve done a lot of videos on
0:18 Hitler and National Socialism. I’ve done a few videos on Mussolini and Italian Fascism. And
0:23 now I’m looking into Mosley’s British Fascism. So far, I’ve discovered several differences in
0:29 the doctrines between the three types of ideology, so to kick-off a new series of
0:34 videos on Mosley’s Fascism, I want to show you those differences today using a chart.
0:40 So let’s start off with the real basics. Hitler’s Party name was called the “National
0:45 Socialist German Workers’ Party” - acronym: NSDAP. Mussolini had the “National Fascist
0:51 Party” (PNF). And Mosley had the “British Union of Fascists” (the BUF), which later
0:57 changed its name in 1936 to the “British Union of Fascists and National Socialists”,
1:04 and then in 1937 to the “British Union”. This name change with Mosley is important because it shows
1:11 that there is a separation between Fascism and National Socialism, which should become apparent
1:17 in this video, if it isn’t already. I have an entire video dedicated to spelling out the
1:22 differences, but we’ll do it here again because some people don’t believe me for some reason.
1:27 When were these parties founded? Well, the “German Workers’ Party” (the DAP) was
1:33 founded in January 1919, and Hitler joined it in the September of 1919.
1:38 The name was then changed in 1920 to the “National Socialist German Workers’
1:43 Party” (NSDAP), but the name change aside, it’s safe to say it was founded in 1919.
1:48 The first fascist trade unions were created in October 1914 in Italy, with Mussolini joining
1:56 them in December 1914. But Mussolini only founded the Fascist Combat Movement in the March of 1919
2:05 (which was after the German Workers’ Party was created, I should add), and the Fascist
2:11 Combat Movement only became an actual political party - the National Fascist Party - in 1921.
2:19 So yes, Hitler’s Party was already a Party before Mussolini’s Fascists
2:25 became a Party or even a movement, and yet people still think that National Socialism
2:29 derived from Mussolini’s Fascism. No, they were created separately, at roughly the same time.
2:35 Mosley’s “British Union of Fascists” was created in October 1932. And yes,
2:43 this is extremely late - thirteen years or more after the other two. Again, this is important
2:50 for several reasons. I would argue that this is partly why Mosley’s Fascism had been described
2:56 by some historians as the most “coherent” of the fascist movements. Well, the others had to develop
3:03 their ideology from scratch, and this took years of debate. Mosley came along later and could just
3:09 borrow from what they had already made earlier. I would also argue that this was why they weren’t as
3:16 successful as the other two, because they came too late. But that’s a video for another day.
3:22 When did these leaders become anti-Semitic?
3:26 Hitler probably became anti-semitic after joining the DAP in 1919. Yes, in Mein Kampf,
3:33 he does say that he developed his anti-semitism in Vienna before the First World War,
3:39 but this is questionable for several reasons. We do have proper evidence of him being anti-Semitic
3:46 in the summer of 1919, so it’s safe to say that this was the earliest confirmed date.
3:54 Mussolini developed his anti-semitism in 1938.
3:59 In fact, 10,000 Jews were in the Fascist Party of Italy at this point,
4:04 and Mussolini had a Jewish mistress up until 1938. People have challenged me on this,
4:10 but there’s no real evidence of Mussolini being anti-semitic before 1938. It was only after he had
4:17 gone to see Hitler in the September of 1938 that he passed his anti-Semitic laws, but even then,
4:23 Jews remained in his party until 1943 when he was deposed. Hitler certainly had his influence,
4:30 but even then Mussolini wasn’t like Hitler. I’ll explain why in a moment, but for now, you have to
4:37 accept the reality that Mussolini’s Fascism wasn’t anti-semitic for nineteen years after he founded
4:45 his party. The idea that Fascism is inherently anti-semitic or racist is challenged by this fact.
4:53 “I agree with you entirely. I don’t believe a bit in the stupid
4:58 anti-Semitic theory. I am carrying out my policy entirely for political reasons.”
5:04 Mosley developed his anti-Semitism in the autumn of 1934, two years after the founding of his
5:13 Fascist party. There is some evidence of members being anti-Semitic in the party before this point,
5:19 but Mosley himself wasn’t an anti-Semite until late 1934, and his party wasn’t
5:25 officially anti-semitic until after this point. In fact, anti-Semitism was banned prior to 1934.
5:33 Again, this challenges the idea that fascists are inherently anti-semitic.
5:38 And the reason I’m highlighting this is because there is a difference between National Socialism
5:43 and Fascism, and people think that fascism is just for a bunch of racist nutjobs. But,
5:50 while racism is important to the story of both National Socialism and fascism,
5:54 there’s more to fascism (especially) than just that, and we’re going to see that in a minute.
6:00 If we focus entirely on the racism, we miss the wood for the trees. People are falling
6:07 for fascism for other reasons, not just the racism, so we need to look into those reasons.
6:13 What type of anti-semitism did they have? Well, Hitler was clearly a racial anti-semite. If you
6:21 had the ‘bad’ Jewish ‘blood’, as opposed to ‘Aryan Super-Saiyan blood’, then you were Jewish and were
6:29 seen as a problem. Mussolini’s anti-Semitism was different; it wasn’t based on ‘ze blut’.
6:35 It was more of a ‘spiritual’ anti-Semitism. It was his ideology vs the Jewish religion.
6:44 He wanted a strong Italy, and believed that the Jewish religion would go against that
6:50 idea. So as long as you were willing to convert from Judaism to Fascism,
6:54 then you would be fine, which was why 10,000 Jews were in the Fascist Party
6:59 of Italy. It was still anti-Semitism, but it wasn’t racial anti-Semitism.
7:05 “...[Mussolini] and his Fascists refused to deport Jews to the Nazi death camps
7:10 thus saving thousands of Jewish lives - far more than Oscar Schindler.”
7:16 Mosley’s anti-semitism was different again. One historian I’ve read calls it “political
7:22 anti-semitism”, but from my reading, I’d say it was more Nationalist anti-semitism.
7:28 What do I mean by that? Well, Mosley saw the world in terms of nations. He
7:33 was pro-the-British-nation. So he saw the Jews as another ‘foreign’ nation who were invading
7:40 Britain. He spells this out and says it’s NOT because of their race or their religion.
7:46 “So far as foreign people already living here are concerned, so long
7:50 as they conform to British standards, as laid down by the Fascist State,
7:54 they will be permitted to live and work on exactly the same basis as British subjects.
7:59 There will be no discrimination and no persecution because of race or religion.”
8:05 “Foreigners, however, who break the economic code of Fascism, or the social code, will be deported.”
8:13 Arguably you could say he was lying, but I don’t think he was here, and the leftist historian I
8:21 used doesn’t think so either (for more reasons than not I’m letting on here because I don’t want
8:26 to bog this video down too much). Therefore, describing it as a “Nationalist” version of
8:31 anti-Semitism is probably correct… which is interesting because we now have three forms
8:37 of anti-semitism, all developing at different times. Hitler’s anti-semitism was inherent
8:44 within the doctrine of National Socialism. But Fascism isn’t necessarily anti-semitic, or even
8:50 racist. Arguably, Mussolini and Mosley may have been anti-semities, but not necessarily racists,
8:59 and I think that’s an important distinction. There’s no talk about ‘ze blut’ in Mussolini
9:05 or Mosley’s texts like there is with Hitler’s. And this is a significant point for a simple reason:
9:12 the vast majority of the population will call each other ‘fascist’, thinking that it means ‘racist’.
9:17 But the ideology of fascism isn’t necessarily racist. So, because of this, actual fascists
9:25 can use your ignorance of fascism against you. You call them a racist, they say “no we’re not”,
9:32 and then they prove that to you that they’re not, which they can, and you suddenly realise that the
9:39 media and the historians are lying. And then the fascist can say, “hey, it’s all propaganda and
9:44 lies, you don’t know what fascism really is, come over here and I’ll tell you ‘The Truth’ (hashtag,
9:50 copyright, trademark).” And that’s how they draw you in to convert you over to become a
9:55 fascist. Again, this is why it’s important to know what you’re actually dealing with.
10:00 What was their stance on Monarchy? Hitler hated the monarchy. I’ve done a video on it,
10:07 but he hated the Kaiser, and when the Kaiser asked Hitler in 1940 if he could restore the
10:13 Germany monarchy, Hitler called him an idiot. Goebbels called the Kaiser “an old Jew”,
10:20 saying he might have “Jewish blood in his veins”. So Hitler was absolutely, 100%, against monarchy.
10:29 Mussolini feared a revolt if he got rid of the King, so he had to put up with the
10:34 monarchy due to political reasons. But he was anti-monarchy as well. Mosley on the other hand,
10:41 was - in his own words - “intensely loyal to the monarchy”. This makes more sense where you realise
10:48 that Mosley was an aristocrat, while Hitler and Mussolini were not. So again, we have a
10:55 difference here. Fascism can be for or against the monarchy, it just depends on the type of fascism.
11:03 But there are also similarities. They’re all anti-parliamentary and anti-democracy.
11:10 But I must provide a caveat to this statement, which is why the asterixis
11:15 are there for Hitler and Mussolini (plus a million and one references below).
11:20 Both Mussolini and Hitler believed that their totalitarian governments were the
11:26 highest form of democracy. The reason why is because they believed that their worker
11:33 parties were the people. The people were the party, and the party was the state.
11:41 So why is it not democracy? Giovani Gentile, the philosophical founder of fascism, has a couple of
11:48 chapters dedicated to this question in his book the “Origins and Doctrine of Fascism” where he
11:53 describes this. He says that all other states are created from the top downwards, whereas Fascism
11:59 is built from the ground up. So as a result, the state is the ultimate form of democracy.
12:06 “The Nationalist state was [an] aristocratic state, that constructed itself out of the
12:12 force it inherited from its origin, that made it valued by the masses. The Fascist State,
12:18 on the other hand, is a popular state, and, in that sense, a democratic State par excellence.”
12:25 And Hitler says something similar. This is why I have a video on Hitler’s democracy,
12:30 and also why I say that North Korea is a democracy, because technically it is.
12:36 Democracy isn’t “voting”, it’s when the people are in power, which they are in a workers’
12:42 state. So I would still say that these guys are anti-democracy in the popular sense of the word,
12:49 but pro-democracy in the totalitarian sense of the word. If you’re not sure what I mean by that,
12:56 I’d say watch my video on Hitler’s democracy which will explain this concept in full. But
13:02 essentially, democracy is just another word for totalitarianism. It’s a scam. It’s a con word.
13:08 It’s snake oil. It’s a trick to get you to vote away your power to the totalitarian politicians
13:14 who are supposedly there to “represent” you. Yeah okay, sure they are. Trust me, bro.
13:22 Politics. What is their politics? Well, Mussolini and Mosley are usually described as nationalists
13:29 for their respective countries. But technically, this might not be true. Mosley’s nationalism is
13:36 not ‘British’ nationalism because there was little support for the “British Union of
13:41 Fascists” outside of England. One historian says it was “misnamed”, being predominantly an English
13:48 movement. The Scots, Welsh and Irish weren’t English, and some of them (especially today) don’t
13:55 want to be British either. So “Britishness” is technically an international identity.
14:01 To be “British” is to forego your English nationality, your Welsh nationality, etc. So even
14:08 calling Mosley a “nationalist” is problematic, which is why I’ve put an asterisk beside it.
14:15 Mussolini is the same. Italians weren’t a nation back then. Arguably they were also
14:21 an international identity. Giovanni Gentile also describes the Fascist State as “distinct” from
14:28 the Nationalist State on numerous occasions in his “Origins & Doctrine of Fascism” book.
14:32 So I hesitate to call it nationalism as such, but will do so for the lack of a better term.
14:38 But I am 100% certain that Hitler wasn’t a ‘nationalist’ in the traditional sense. I
14:46 know it’s in the name of his party, but he’s not a nationalist because his nation isn’t a nation,
14:51 it’s a race. The nation is the ‘race’, so we can’t call it nationalism, it’s more like ‘racism’.
15:01 So, think about it this way: he wanted to Anschluss the Austrian Germans into the Reich.
15:06 Well, why? Surely as a nationalist, Hitler would allow the Austrian Germans to have their own
15:14 nation? They were Austrians! But no, because they were German. Their Austrian nationalism
15:21 is irrelevant because Hitler wants to unite the German race. So his ‘nationalism’ is actually
15:31 an international German movement, not a national one, despite the fact the ‘national’ bit is in the
15:38 name of his party. It’s probably best to use the word “Volkisch” to describe this (although that’s
15:43 problematic in itself because it has ties to the occult, which Hitler didn’t entirely agree with).
15:49 I’ve described Hitler’s ideology as “Racial Socialism” for this reason
15:53 because it’s not ‘normal’ nationalism - it’s racial, unlike the other two.
15:59 Economics. Oh here we go, here’s the controversial statement of the century… but we’ll cover
16:08 Mussolini and Mosley first because even Wikipedia (the Greatest Source since tomato) agrees with me
16:13 on this. Yes, it was Syndicalism. Now there are other sources for this, James Gregor, Gentile,
16:21 Farrell, Mosley himself etc etc. It’s best to describe it as “National Syndicalism” which is
16:28 why I put the Nationalism bit first. But what is “syndicalism”? It’s actually trade-unionism.
16:35 That’s actually where the word “fascism” comes from. It derives from the Roman
16:40 bundle of sticks - the fasces - but the word “fascio” means trade union. The first fascio
16:47 was created in October 1914, and Mussolini came along in the December after he left the Socialist
16:52 Party. Gentile describes how the idea was to merge the State and the trade unions together.
16:58 “...since the intention was to overcome the antithesis between the State and the syndicate,
17:04 the effort was made to enter the system of syndicates harmoniously into corporations subject
17:11 to discipline by the State and to thereby give expression to the organic character of the State.”
17:18 In plane English, the trade union syndicates would be formed into ‘corporations’, which would make
17:24 up the ‘organic’ state. An organ is part of a body. Another name for a body is a “corpse”.
17:31 Corporations would be “body organisms” of the people, and they would form their people’s
17:38 state - their democracy. That’s literally where the concept of the “corporation” comes from. To
17:44 put it another way, people would form into trade unions, which were an expression of
17:49 their ‘spirit’. These trade unions would grow to become syndicates and corporations,
17:54 which would form a state. So it’s bottom-up, rather than top down. This “corporate state”
18:01 would act for the workers, not for the elite (in theory at least).
18:06 “The Fascist State, having organized and juridically recognized workers’ syndicates
18:13 and employer organizations, intends to adapt its structure to those united syndicates,
18:18 to draw them into national corporations, on the way to a system of political
18:24 representation compatible with the structure of workers’ organizations…”
18:28 This is what Fascism is - trade unionism, or syndicalism. Hitler’s economics, though,
18:35 is Socialism, with elements of syndicalism too. Hitler had a 32 million-man strong trade union,
18:44 the DAF (the German Labour Front), one of the largest trade unions in history. He also
18:49 had workers’ battalions, with one fighting at the Battle of Arnhem in 1944. So it might be better to
18:57 describe it as syndicalism rather than socialism, but because the historians have completely
19:03 neglected the study of the Nazi economy, it’s impossible to say right now. I currently think
19:08 it’s socialism, and since I like to annoy all the Marxists, I’m just going to keep it as socialism.
19:13 No wait, no I’m not! I’m going to change it to “REAL Socialism”. I think that looks better.
19:21 “Noooooo! My philosophy degree is worthless!”
19:26 Speaking of which, philosophy. Hitler had a Social Darwinist philosophy. This is the idea
19:33 of “struggle” in an evolutionary sense. That’s why Hitler chose to title his book “Mein Kampf”,
19:40 “My Struggle” - it’s central to his entire creed, and is probably more important than
19:46 all the other elements. But interestingly, this philosophy contradicts both the Volkisch and
19:52 racist anti-semitism that Hitler has, and is part of the deep ideological flaw in Nazism that I went
19:59 over in detail at 1 hour 25 minutes into my 5 hour Hitler’s Socialism video. See Section 5, Part 1,
20:06 ‘National Socialism’s Fundamental Ideological Flaw’. Timestamp in that video’s description.
20:11 But back to this video, Mussolini and Mosley are different; they have a philosophy known
20:17 as Actualism. Technically, I haven’t yet come across evidence that Mosley was consciously
20:23 aware of this philosophy, but his actions and beliefs suggest that he embraced it,
20:28 even if he didn’t know it consciously. Now, what is Actualism? (Sigh) You can look it up online,
20:36 but you’ll find a bunch of contradictory answers. And the reason why is because it’s a load of
20:41 garbage. I will define it as a neo-Hegelian nonsensical gnostic justification for their cult.
20:49 And it’s rare that I say this, but it’s not worth looking into - it just isn’t.
20:56 I can cover it in a separate video if it’s absolutely necessary, but I don’t think it’s
21:00 worth it. It’s just Hegelian nonsense. All you need to know right now is that
21:03 it supposedly “proves” that the Revolution is coming. Which Revolution? Well, in this case,
21:10 the Fascist Revolution, but also it supposedly “proves” the Marxist revolution as well.
21:15 So yes, Hitler, Mussolini and Mosley were Revolutionaries. Zitelmann’s book
21:21 “Hitler’s National Socialism” spends the entire second section (like 80 pages) on
21:27 Hitler being a revolutionary, so I would just read that if you were ever in doubt
21:31 about this. James Gregor also shoots down the idea that Italian Fascism was
21:35 “counter-revolutionary” or “reactionary”, as the Marxists claimed. Farrell talks
21:41 about this throughout in regards to Mussolini being a revolutionary.
21:45 “Actually, they were reactionary only if hostility to Capitalism and liberalism,
21:51 the monarchy and parliament is reactionary.”
21:55 In fact, Mosley calls other people (like the “Tories”) - he calls them “reactionaries”. But
22:02 despite this, one Leftist historian describes Mosley’s fascism as an “ultra-conservative
22:07 reactionary” movement. I mean, talk about dropping the ball. So no, they’re all revolutionaries.
22:16 But they’re not united when it comes to war. Hitler was pro-war, obviously. (Do I even need a
22:22 source for that statement?) Mussolini was pro-war (eventually). And Mosley was anti-war. In fact,
22:28 it helped him regain support in the run up to the Second World War. So again,
22:33 there’s a difference here between the three fascisms.
22:37 The reason why was because their aims were different. Hitler wanted Living Space in
22:42 the East (Lebensraum). Mussolini wanted a Mediterranean Empire. And Mosley wanted to
22:48 fix the British Empire, because he thought it was sick and failing. So he wanted to save it.
22:55 There was no talk of expanding it. So again, we’ve got a difference here between the three leaders.
23:00 In fact, I would say that there are plenty of differences between Mussolini and Mosley alone,
23:06 based on their national issues. Mussolini was Italian, and Mosley was British, so there were
23:13 differences between their fascisms because of that. And the main difference between fascism
23:18 and National Socialism is the racial element. This is why I’ve said it so many times - National
23:23 Socialism is not the same as Fascism. It is NOT a fascism. It is different and distinct enough that
23:29 it could rightfully be classed as a separate ideology, even if there are some crossovers.
23:34 So there you go. I’ll have a few videos on the screen right now for
23:38 you on various ideologies. Check them out. Thanks for watching, bye for now.
